Boys Soccer: Playoffs, Rankings, Standings, Stats

It’s never too early to look at the playoff race. Let’s see who enters 2014 in the running, doing so by league.

Right now, each team is technically .500 in league, at 0-0, but since they haven’t played, we have just overall and division record to go off of.

Right now, only Freedom and Pittsburg are really in the playoff race, and Deer Valley is only two games under .500 so they are on the fringe. Someone in this league will rise up during circuit play and make a push. Liberty, Heritage and Antioch all have the ability.

Right now, six of the seven teams are within a game of .500 in league. Alhambra, Campolindo and Dublin are in great shape right now, while Las Lomas and Miramonte are both in pretty good shape as well.

Ygnacio Valley and Northgate are both in great shape. Never is anyone a lock at the end of December, but they are on their way if they stay the course.

College Park is in pretty good shape, just one under overall and one over in league. Concord also is just one under overall and is .500 in league. Those two teams are in the playoff race, as usual. Mount Diablo is trying to make it two appearances in three years, and is off to a good start at .500.

If the season ended today, seven teams would be eligible. And the one that isn’t, Granada, is just one under .500 overall, in league and in division. I think it’s possible all eight make the playoffs this year.

Logan and Newark are in very good shape. Mission San Jose and Washington would be eligible if the season ended today, both with overall and league record. Irvington would be based on league record, while Kennedy is just a game under in league.

Albany, El Cerrito Richmond and St. Mary’s are in good shape and should be fine. Salesian and St. Joe’s are all at least .500 overall, so this league is very balanced and could see a bunch of playoff berths.

Hercules looks to be in pretty good shape as it stands right now, as does De Anza. Pinole is also in the running.

Berkeley and Bishop O’Dowd are in great shape and should be fine. Arroyo is right in the thick of things, as is Castro Valley. Both those teams have some wriggle room at the current moment.

Mt. Eden and Alameda aren’t out of it, but are two games under in league (Mt. Eden is also within two games overall).

Hayward is in great shape. San Leandro is in good shape right now, and San Lorenzo and Piedmont are sitting close. Encinal and Tennyson are both two under in league.

Not much to change this week as Hayward and O’Dowd move up one spot after the St. Mary’s loss. I considered jumping Dublin over Logan, but I moved Logan up too slowly this year despite some very good results, and they didn’t deserve to be jumped again.

Wow. I did not expect that result. Anybody see the game?

  • Matt Smith

Liberty is better than people think. Their six losses are against the EBAL and Berkeley, and several of them are close losses.

  • Matt Smith

    AV 1-0 Clayton, 10:00

  • Matt Smith

    AV 2-0 Clayton, 20:00

  • Matt Smith

AV up 3-0. It appears there will be no encore performance by CVC.

  • Matt Smith

    Dublin 2-2 Heritage

  • MikeT

Back to back matches against EBAL sides would be tough for anyone.

  • MikeT

    Good result for Heritage?

  • lovesoccer18

just seen Hayward play Acalane Hayward. controls the hole game the referees was horrible they kept them in the game Hayward was call off sizes two was clearly not but one was close. It’s too bad that these referees impact the game so much. Hayward 1 Acalane 0. any more scores out there.

  • MikeT

Seems like all the bad Referees get the Haywztd matches… 🙂

  • MikeT

    Hayward matches

  • tintin

I agree Hayward dominated the game. # 00, #14 or #17 (Anthony) and # 3 in back are solid players for Hayward. They could have scored few more. Acalanes is a young team and they had their chances as well. #!4, #10 did a good job on Acalanes. Center did a decent job (not great) but he tried to let the players play. I am not sure where you were sitting but from my angle off sides in first half were legit. Can’t comment on second half off sides because I was not in line of the play. It funny how we make comments on offside even though we are 30-40 yards away from play. Also in my opinion, Hayward players were flopping quite a bit and played a dirty second half.

  • Slz fan

San Lorenzo Once Again Played Good Football, This Time On Their Win Over Northgate High. At A Point Winning 3-0 But Northgate Got Some Shots In The Last 10 Minutes And Got 2 In.
    SLZ 3-2 Northgate.

  • Matt Smith

Ya, it is. Too bad the NCS seeding committee won’t think so.

  • TheTalk6

It is true I try to get to all there games and it is allways bad calls against Hayward

  • TheTalk6

Flopping? Dirty? Acalanes was really dirty the whole game and from what I herd they were always begging for a call and they got most of them. But to me it seems like #6 is comeing back it’s good to see him back out there.

  • lovesoccer18

Hayward playing dirty I do not know what you’re watching Acalane every opportunity pushing in the back grabbing how about when the guy grabbed 17 in the box that’s not a felled and no call please it’s only Ok when it’s your team. You have to play like the other team or you will get ran over. come on.

  • lovesoccer18

Also I was setting on the line a few times it was not close the player ran by the defense of player because he was stand still. He was not off side ..

  • lovesoccer18

Matt need to be in the Ncs meeting seeding . we need a voice. Come on matt use your lawyer stuff.

  • futbollova

Yeah, el cerrito scored 4 in first ten minutes then de Anza came back with 3 in the first half. 2nd half el cerrito scored twice and de Anza had a consolation penalty

  • MikeT

  • tintin

That was my opinion about the game. I was there on beautiful sat. afternoon to enjoy some good soccer. I am not associated with any team. It was a good match between the two teams. I did not say that Acalanes was playing clean. Both teams were playing rough and physical game. But yes, Hayward players were flopping. In second half Hayward keeper first waited for the ball and when Acalanes player got to him and had minor contact he went down and play was stopped for good 3 min. There were other incidents also. Hayward has very good soccer players. It was really fun watching them play and connect. 00 is very skillful. They just need to get classy.

  • viewsfromthebox

Congrats San Lorenzo! I have only seen them once but I was impressed. I hope they will make NCS playoffs and possibly make a run.

  • viewsfromthebox

Yes Liberty is better than people think, but still what’s up with Alameda? They have some good players. Where was the game? Scoring 4 goals on that pitch Alameda uses would be really impressive.

  • viewsfromthebox

Good result for San Leandro… not surprised though. How did Logan tie DLS and MV, there must be a story there? I do think they played MV on NPL showcase weekend?

  • viewsfromthebox

I haven’t seen Hercules and PV but they have some good club players so they are probably pretty strong.

  • TheTalk6

    Dude your a joke

  • Matt Smith

Haha, I wish I could. I’ve tried so many times!

  • Matt Smith

I think injuries caught up with the sides, and they agreed it would be best to take the day off.

  • Hunter charles

Who should we look out for on el cerrito this year?

  • MikeT

  • footiefan

They played at Liberty. I heard they dominated most of the game and we’re actually up 1-0 at the half. Its one of those scores that don’t show what really happened on the field. They seems to struggle to keep the momentum for the whole 90 minutes. Hopefully they can get it together for this Monday. They play Pitt away.

  • viewsfromthebox

Pitt away will be tough, especially if they have defensive letdowns. Pitt will attack all day long.

  • WACC Player

The NPL showcase weekend was late November.

  • Offsides

What was the AV & Clayton final score?

  • Matt Smith

  • Gustavo Gómez

Matt how is yv doing this year without damian an aguilar in mid field? And the losses are they from games here in the bay or from the tournament they were invited to?

  • Gustavo Gómez

The last good yv pitt game ended 1-1 right? The rain kinda slowed tempo.

And before that yv beat them 4-0 with a nice damian free kick to put the cherry on top.

  • Matt Smith

@gustavo_g_mez:disqus Good to hear from you. YV is looking just as strong. They have a lot of strength out on the wings this year, a very good freshman who is calm in the middle and actually have an abundance of defenders.

  • MikeT

DLS next at DLS. True test.

  • EBAL Dad

so, SRV beats Amador. SRV loses to Clayton Valley. Amador crushes Clayton Valley. If you were on NCS committee how would you process that one?

  • MikeT

I saw Alameda once early in the season. They seem to have a really good idea of what they want to do, try and possess the ball by building up from the back. But what I think they lack is that one or two guys that are going to score a lot of goals. Finishing is their challenge.

  • Goldenboot

Albany are given too much credit Matt . Keep an eye out for el Cerrito, they had a very close game vs Pitt but lost from a lucky goal you’ll only see once In a lifetime and tied Clayton valley 4-4. They tied Pinole 1-1 and beat Hercules 3-1 and beat Antioch 4-2. What do you think Matt?
