Latest East Bay High School Girls Soccer rankings

Here are the latest girls soccer rankings.

Not many changes this week, although Liberty made a nice little jump into the 12th spot. Tempted to move Berkeley up a spot after San Ramon Valley’s back-to-back draws, but I need to see a little more before making the move.

EBAL teams continue to hammer it out. Consider this: California, coming off its big win over No. 5 Amador Valley,  drew with Carondelet and Foohill last week. Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley battled to a draw for the second time this season, also including the championship match of the Tri-Valley Classic Invitation Division. There’s no gimmes in the EBAL.

DFAL rivals Campolindo and Miramonte probably have Feb. 13 circled on their calendars. That’s the date of their rematch at Campolindo. The Matadors handed the Cougars their only defeat this season on Jan. 15.

College Park kept rolling last week with its second and third consecutive shutout wins, 2-0 over Clayton Valley Charter and 3-0 over Dublin. I’m counting 13 shutout wins for the Falcons this season. Impressive.

Speaking of hot teams, Albany has won eight straight games, including turning the tables on St. Mary’s with a 2-1 win on Jan. 21, avenging a 2-1 loss on Dec. 12. St. Mary’s and Albany are tied atop the TCAL standings.

As of Jan. 27, 2014

1, Monte Vista (14-0-2, 7-0-1 EBAL)

9, Campolindo (10-1-2, 5-1-1 DFAL)

10, Miramonte (7-2-1, 4-1-1 DFAL)

11, Granada (4-7-1, 3-5-0 EBAL)

12, Liberty (7-2-4, 3-1-0 BVAL)

13, Foothill (6-5-0, 1-5-2 EBAL)

14, Deer Valley (8-4-1, 3-1-0 BVAL)

15 (t), Alameda (9-3-3, 4-1-2 WACC-Foothill)

15(t), Logan (7-4-3, 7-0-1 MVAL)

berkeley beat castro valley 5-0 last friday

What are the qualifications/requirements to be in the NCS playoffs?

  • soccerguy

is BOD going to be a top seed this year in D2? it doesn’t seem as if
they are as strong as the past 3 or so years. I mean, they are good,
but not getting the blow out wins over teams they use to. is it because
they are not as strong or competition is getting better?

  • soccerguy

you have to have a .500 record in either your division(D1 or D2), in your league, and/or overall.

  • Tim

I think both. With the change in their league, the competition is better. Then they lost some excellent players that graduated last year & injuries to talented players this season. I think they will be still a favorite in D2 this season but it’s not going to be smooth sailing. In BOD’s advantage is an excellent coach leading their team.

I watched the Mt. Eden , O Dowd game last week, and I must say that the Mt. Eden girls really surprised me (and really surprised the O’Dowd girls) with how much they have improved in the last couple of years. While still lacking a real threat in the attack ( soon, soon) They played tough, tenacious defense and held O’Dowd scoreless until the final minutes of the match, when a correct, but very silly and needless foul in the box cost them a penalty and the game. Kudos to all of those ladies and their coaching staff too.

  • KC

Definite big week in the EBAL as the ladies from Carondelet, Livermore, Foothill and Granada are standing with there backs to the Qualification wall and wishing they scheduled a few more non-conference games to get them through the cannibalization of EBAL. Tonight could keep a few alive for a few more days, but a loss would pretty much seal their fate
Tonight–Carondelet @ Foothill, SRV @ Granada, Livermore @ AV, and Monte Vista @ Cal

Just had a conversation with Amador Valley goalkeeper Lexi Nicholas, an under-18 national team pool player and Notre Dame commit with big dreams. I was very impressed. Seems like a great girl. I will be rooting for her as her college career unfolds. Her twin sister, Brianna, bound for West Point, is also quite a player at center back.

How do berkeley, castro valley and college park look? Top 3 non EBAL, d1 teams

  • KC

Fantastic Player….Wishing her the best of luck in the college ranks and playing in the ACC!

  • Lion17

Liberty beat Freedom tonight 4-3 in a game mostly dominated by Liberty, Ref added an extra 5 minutes to the end of the game for no reason. They remain in 1st place in BVAL. Liberty @ Heritage on Thursday.

  • DVAL fan

Big game today NG @ CP 3:30pm. Who do you like to win that one?

  • Matt Schwab

Got to give College Park a slight edge, but emotionally-charged league showdowns tend to take on a life of their on. Good luck to both teams.

  • Matt Schwab

Hey everyone — We’re looking for the names/lists of local college-bound signees for next week’s national signing date. I know the Pleasanton Rage has 20 signing. Haven’t seen the Mustang list yet. Does West Coast have a list? Be sure to let me know the names of your college-bound players so we can include them. Thanks,

  • KC

Hey Matt…if you are curious to commitments try here. https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AriynKqmGsRwdGUyR1ZrSFFUbHFZblNCMnBNZnNqc1E&output=html&gid=6
Yes, not all commits are listed here, but most are. As far as Pleasanton and 20 girls…are you looking for girls signing a letter of intent? (girls getting scholarship money) or girls that are going to a school where they want to play soccer. In my experience these are 2 totally different things,

  • DVAL fan

Why the slight edge to Falcons? Home field?

I agree with your league showdown comment. Broncos need this win to stay alive in DVAL. My prediction draw.

  • KC

Monte Vista is ranked #1 HS team in the country by the NSCAA. Pretty impressive…San Ramon is ranked #5 in Region IV Way to represent the East Bay!

  • Matt Schwab

What we are looking for in terms of college-bound signings are players who are signing national letters of intent with Division I or Division II schools, or those who will soon be signing. Players going somewhere where they want to play soccer shouldn’t be included on the signing list. Also, players going to Division III schools or junior colleges that don’t provide any financial aid should not be on the list, to my understanding.

  • Matt Schwab

My “slight edge” to College Park stems from the Falcons’ very good form. That’s meant as no disrespect to Northgate, but the Falcons have been on a roll. I try to avoid picking games at the high school level because, well, it’s high school sports. Come NCS, it’s kind of fun to take a stab in the dark by making predictions because there’s so much interest.

  • in the know

Heritage and liberty 2-2 tie referee absolutly let Liberty in the game at the end of the second half there has to be something done about the Referees that the NCS is putting out there for games that mean so much towards league standings, along with club games. Someone needs to come up with a reporting system for referees besides other referee assessments. But getting back to the game Heritage absolutely owned the posession and shots on goal.

  • KC

Every coach fills out Ref evaluations that determine which ones actually get NCS games

  • DVAL fan

You think BVAL officating is poor come over to DVAL ! lol

  • DVAL fan

CP 2 NG 1 Final. Good Call Matt Schwab!

  • KC

Equally bad in the EBAL…EBAL rules, from my understanding, have a running clock except when the ref stops it for a Goal, Injury, Card or a ball in the street/out of play a long way away. Tonight the ref in the Carondelet/Amador game stops the clock with 4.3 seconds left on a random foul at mid field…AV was allowed to get a set piece. No damage done, but the refs need to know the rules. If I am wrong, someone please correct me…Brutal

  • KC

Not a lot of scores reported last night. Carondelet and Amador drew 1-1 in a very entertaining yet Chippy match. Definitely a different outcome from 3 weeks ago where Amador put up 6 goals (a formation change has seen CHS go the last 4 without a loss) SRV nbeat Cal 2-1 in what sounded like a 2nd half blitz. Anyone have scores for Foothill/Granada or Monte Vista/Livermore?

  • Tim

MV 2-1 winners from what I hear. Livermore scored PK with 10 left & made MV work hard to keep result.

  • Tim

Every coach has the opportunity, very few actually do.

  • Tim

    Granada 1-0 over Foothill.

  • Lion17

Not sure what game In the Know was watching, the game was a back and forth battle, at times both teams dominated possession, not sure what In the Know’s definition of possession is. Liberty’s tying goal at minute 78 was well before the whistle blew, and honestly had they had a few more minutes left, Liberty had the momentum going for them towards the end of the game, and probably would have scored again. The referee did miss some calls both ways, but overall was fair and did a good, not a great job. One of the better performances by a ref in NCS this season. Liberty also had quite a few scoring opportunities and shots on goal.

  • mudhen

Actually KC, the assignors for the various associations decide who goes.

  • Dan Chubbock

Kesy Platt (Piedmont HS), will be signing her letter for Sonoma on Wednesday.

  • soccerguy

    Matt,
with the next rankings, can you post your predictions with who you think will make playoffs for D1 and D2?

  • KC

Thats a ton of work but i would be greatly appreciative. My head scrambles kust keeping track of EBAL

  • soccerguy

It would be greatly appreciated. I have only seen some teams this year and not as many as I would like to. So it would be nice to hear some insight about other teams and their chances.

  • KC

Big Tuesday! Lots of great match ups this week that will impact the NCS tournament profile. What games are on the must see list?
