Boys Soccer: NCS Playoff Brackets, All-Star Game, Rankings, Standings, Stats

This year, I am first going to list how I would seed the teams, and then I’ll try to predict how the NCS seeding committee will do.

Division I

Official Bracket

No. 1 De La Salle v. No. 16 Freedom
No. 2 Monte Vista v. No. 15 Antioch
No. 3 Pittburg v. No. 14 Washington
No. 4 Berkeley v. No. 13 College Park
No. 5 San Ramon Valley v. No. 12 Mt. Eden
No. 6 Amador Valley v. No. 11 James Logan
No. 7 Richmond v. No. 10 Mission San Jose
No. 8 Newark Memorial v. No. 9 San Leandro

Matt Smith’s Seeding:

1. Pittsburg
2. Berkeley
3. De La Salle
4. Monte Vista
5. Amador Valley
6. San Ramon Valley
7. Richmond
8. Newark Memorial
9. San Leandro
10. Mission San Jose
11. Mt. Eden
12. College Park
13. Logan
14. Freedom
15. Washington
16. Antioch

NCS Committee Prediction:

1. Pittsburg
2. De La Salle
3. Monte Vista
4. Berkeley
5. San Ramon Valley
6. Amador Valley
7. Richmond
8. Newark Memorial
9. San Leandro
10. College Park
11. Mission San Jose
12. Mt. Eden
13. Logan
14. Antioch
15. Freedom
16. Washington

I think the committee will value head-to-head, therefore putting MV ahead of Berkeley. But I look at the entire season as a whole. I also think the committee will just seed the EBAL teams according to league finish instead of really digging into where to put the teams. Though I think the teams from the EBAL are very good, I reference college basketball when I say that even teams from the top conferences aren’t the top overall seed when they have losses.
Are DLS and MV the favorites? Probably. But I think winning over the course of a season would be enough for me to put Pitt and Berkeley as 1 and 2. I would also have AV ahead of SRV based on the entire resume, but I think they’ll seed based on league finish.
I think the committee will put CP ahead of MSJ based on an anomaly of an early season game. The committee loves head to head. They also believe in not having rematches of teams from the same league, even though it means not putting a team where they think they should be. A team should just be seeded, and they should just play whoever they play.
I think because of that, they’ll drop Washington to the No. 16 seed to avoid a BVAL rematch.

Division II

Official Bracket

No. 1 Ygnacio Valley v. No. 16 Alhambra
No. 2 Campolindo v. No. 15 Las Lomas
No. 3 Dublin v. No. 14 Mt. Diablo
No. 4 Hercules v. No. 13 Acalanes
No. 5 San Lorenzo v. No. 12 Piedmont
No. 6 Hayward v. No. 11 Pinole Valley
No. 7 Bishop O’Dowd v. No. 10 El Cerrito
No. 8 St. Mary’s v. No. 9 Northgate

Matt Smith’s Seeding:

1. Ygnacio Valley
2. Campolindo
3. Dublin
4. San Lorenzo
5. Hercules
6. Bishop O’Dowd
7. Hayward
8. St. Mary’s
9. El Cerrito
10. Piedmont
11. Pinole Valley
12. Albany
13. Northgate
14. Las Lomas
15. Alhambra
16. Acalanes

NCS Committee Prediction:

1. Ygnacio Valley
2. Campolindo
3. Dublin
4. Hercules
5. San Lorenzo
6. Bishop O’Dowd
7. Hayward
8. St. Mary’s
9. El Cerrito
10. Northgate
11. Las Lomas
12. Pinole Valley
13. Piedmont
14. Albany
15. Alhambra
16. Acalanes

The committee will seed Hercules higher than I would, though I think SLZ deserves to be No. 4 after going 9-0-2 in their last 11 games. Hercules has won nine straight, and are a different team with Romero, but I have them No. 5 for the early season slip-ups.
Bishop O’Dowd edges out Hayward based on a slightly better recent form. I have Piedmont at No. 10 because of a great schedule and some great wins. However, I think the committee will rely to heavily on the head-to-head put Northgate (who beat Las Lomas) then LL, who beat Piedmont. Pinole has some nice wins, so deserves to be at least No. 12, probably better.
Lastly, I think Acalanes edges out Mount Diablo for the last spot. Acalanes has one of the best schedules of any Division II teams, and has earned it.

All-Star Game

The All-Star game is set for March 7th, 7:00 p.m. at Richmond High. It will feature 20 of the top seniors in Division I against 20 of the top seniors in Division II.
Last year’s game was a huge success, so please spread the word and let’s make the second annual game and even bigger success than last year.

For the first time this season, the rankings truly do not matter, with the playoff seedings set to come out on Sunday afternoon. Still, this is how it looks.
Campo back into the top five after the big win over Dublin, who was ranked No. 5 at the time. SRV back into the top 10 after a good week.
Hercules makes the top 15 for the first time this year as this team seems to be hitting stride.
Logan and Freedom are back on the list, just outside the top 15, while Piedmont features for the first time this season.

I just went back to view the game last night have it on video the Hayward goal from Rigo definitely went in it should been a goal. If any one Say it would not matter they are lying to themselves the referees really screwed this game all up.one of the referees Ar had a tattoo
with Dublin high on it Wow. He quently Mist a lot of call. it was not even playing field. Sad Hayward high teachers was shock . And am not saying Hayward would of won but it definitely changed the game from the emotion and flow of the game. it would have been 1to 1 at halftime .A different game. sure hope there’s a investigation for these kids it wasn’t fair.both teams played really well. good luck to Dublin. I will definitely go watch this game Campo against Dublin .. should be a good one.

  • Chris

Will Dublin be able to stop Campo’s “style of play”? [No negative connotation intended]

  • Ginger

Lovesoccer18…..As a Dublin fan and parent we want to tell you that your team is terrific, had a great season and we have nothing but the highest regard for the players, school and especially coach Alex.
Its sad one team had to lose last night but we are glad we had a chance to play you guys. Wish nothing but the best for you guys next year.

  • lovesoccer18

Not if the ref do not make the call. If Campo is a loud to be physical its will Be the same results. Campo 3 Dublin 1.if the game is call closer Dublin 2 Campo 1 we will see .

  • EBAL Dad

why do you think they were illegal?

  • lovesoccer18

    Thanks good luck

  • LBallday

“Your team”…. interesting coming from a Dublin fan and parent.
I think what Ballsout was implying was long ball doesn’t work against a team with height and speed. Building from the defensive line, working triangles and diamonds, and keeping the ball on the ground would have been BRILLIANT. justsayin…….

  • Soccerking

Someone needs to put together a blooper reel of highschool soccer officiating in north coast. There are way too many bad officials out there, I know they are trying their best but for some of them, their best just doesn’t cut it. It is unfortunate when their mistakes affect the possible outcome of a game or a teams season.

  • whimsical

Post the video. It was a great shot however it looked as if it hit bottom forward of the bar landing on the ground in front of the goal line. As well post the shot when dublin launched one from the same side and the keeper caught it in the net behind the line. That same AR denied it, how the keeper kept from falling into the net was increadible.

It was a great game, dublin lost orginization towrads the end of the first half and Hayward didnt capitalize.

  • lovesoccer18

holy moly look at all those commentsWow Matt this is getting bigger and bigger

  • LBallday

And a shared glory title. Way to support your silver bush league team.

  • whimsical

Yes, if dublin can continue with 3-4 man attacks, close on #10 who is leathal from outside, most impotantly maintain composure and confidence in the back by not giving up constant corners and throw- ins its a done deal.

Campo had no ability to dominate in the 18 against Dublins back line. Campo scored on a 3rd consecutive corner and a netted throw- in the keeper couldnt hold. Itstime for dublin to play there level of soccer for 90min. As they did the first 15 and last 15 against Hayward.

  • whimsical

You bash dublins players and yet youre a parent? Very interesting.

  • Matt Smith

  • LBallday

Yay… way to support your shared glory silver bush league team. Brilliant. justsayin….

  • Jorge

When will the All-Star selections be announced?

  • Matt Smith
  • whimsical

I’ll quote this here for you Ginger ( now disqus_Rqm3FQr9iT). Be prepared, I’ll continue this conversation in due time, and at the appropriate time. Why would you berate players, and/or a team you yourself are involved in? Seems typical of staff how they degrade players

My mistake for thinking you were a Campo non Dublin supporter/parent/ coach.

“Ginger Ballsout • 3 days ago

Ballsout mom/dad….Your team was NOT tied for 1st place when you played Campo…You were 3 points and 1 loss behind. Or in NON-Club language, you were in second place. Enjoy your Silver league shared glory title…The rest of us are looking forward to HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER…with some great matches this weekend”

  • Matt Smith

@soccergod:disqus You seem to know Jeremy Romero. I want to invite him to the All-Star game, but have not heard a word from the Hercules coach. If you have his contact info, or can have him reach out to me, have him email me at mhsmith78@gmail.com

  • lovesoccer18

I will try I’m just trying to figure out how to get it on to my computer

  • whimsical

sounds good I saw somewhere it said it netted, happen so fast i didn’t catch it. Load it on youtube, photobucket etc

  • Mark Long

wow, you really went out on a limb for the EBAL team to beat the non ebal team. you are such a risk taker. Check my post from a few days ago. I said all ebal semi final. Seems to me that you are the amateur. Now, can you grab the grasshopper out of my hand and then get h*!! off the Bears bandwagon. Nobody wants some disgruntled two bit armchair coach wannabe barney at Edwards stadium. Maybe, you can comb the peewee games in whatever town you hail. I’m sure they would take all of your supposed wisdom. It’s a lot easier to fool the newbies.

  • Mark Long

wow, he said 4-4-2. you are so smart. tell me more. you really are for real. a real soccer guru. I heard espn fc is looking for another commentator. oh yeah, as comic relief.

  • Mark Long

gauranteed? Thankfully you are NOT teaching spelling…
Maybe I’ll bring some spit balls to rifle off the back of your head while you pretend to know what your talking about.

  • EBAL Dad

Great idea! Just as long as it comes with a coaches blooper reel, a parents blooper reel and a players blooper reel!

  • EBAL Dad

What a bummer that the Trumpet player was asked to stop! Pittsburg was warned that they’d get a yellow card because noise makers are against NCS Rules. Boo! NCS version of the No Fun League!

  • Von

I agree with Whimsical I would love to see that video. It appeared to me that the keeper got a finger or two on it, hit the cross bar bounced down and out but not in. But my human eyes could be wrong. I’d love to see some video evidence

  • LBallday

Looks like Ginger can’t handle the heat and stepped away from the game. Brilliant. justsayin…….

  • threeblindmice

it’s pretty simple. the foot is way over the touchline at the time the ball is released. foul throw.

  • whimsical

Maybe Ginger went for back up, or is backpedling 64 posts.

  • threeblindmice

campo will score from their foul throws and the refs won’t call it… which effectively reduces the entire proceedings to a farce. might as well just toss a coin.

  • Juego Bonita

Thank you Mark for the banter, entertaining week of NCS. Good luck to the semi-finalists and lets do this again next year at NCS, good times. Go Cal too.

  • Mark Long

Fair enough, you have been a good sport. My kid plays at Cal, that’s why I support Kevin. Plain and simple. Maybe, I will see you there this spring.

  • viewsfromthebox

Sweeper is well known for his smart and impartial analysis of high school soccer matches. He is not a Berkeley specific fan, his take is accurate. As is yours. SRV pressure made it difficult for BHS to create enough chances. Still I don’t think anyone was shut down. It was a fairly even match that SRV deserved to win. Berkeley can play with the EBAL teams and would be in the mix in that league. They certainly would be challenged to crack the top 4, but they are a quality side. To demean their effort or imply anyone associated with the program is offering up excuses is wrong. No one even mentioned the handball. Good luck at DLS we’ll be rooting for you.
