Castlemont High School girls basketball star Dezire Hall has signed with UC Merced. It is the first time in at least 10 years that a Castlemont girls basketball player has signed with a school in the University of California system, said Knights coach Gilbert “Duke” Lane Jr.
“I felt comfortable with them the most,” Hall said. “When I went to the (team’s) practice, I felt that’s where I need to be.”
The 5-foot-10 Hall was very impressive this season for the Knights. The first-team all-Oakland Athletic League selection averaged 16.8 points, 15.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 3.2 steals per game this season.
Hall also considered Chico State, San Francisco State, Fresno Pacific and Whittier College before choosing the Bobcats. She said that UC Merced recruited her as a small forward.

Dezire worked very hard this year to include guard skills in her game. Now, she is not only a threat in the paint, she’ll also put up 3 pointers if you leave her open. I look forward to seeing her take her game to the next level.
