Monte Vista honors college-bound athletes

Monte Vista High honored its 23 college-bound athletes at a school ceremony on May 30.

Mustangs athletic director Craig Bergman gave the athletes high praise.

“It’s nice to see them honored, “Bergman said in a school release. “They deserve it. Not only are they good athletes, but all of them are great kids as well. They will be missed, that’s for sure.”

MIT-bound center Spencer Rust, the East Bay Athletic League basketball MVP,  was part of a dream winter season, in which the Mustangs won the school’s first boys basketball state title. They also won EBAL, NCS Division I and NorCal crowns.

“Graduating after winning a state championship is beyond my wildest dreams,” Rust said in a school release. “I cannot wait to head off to MIT and pursue my degree while at the same time continuing to play the sport I love.”
