Chabot wrestling set for state meet

The Chabot College wrestling team should be entering the J.C. State Championships Dec. 12-13 at Cuesta College with a lot of confidence after winning the Coast Conference title for the first time in years recently.

Chabot, No. 7 in the recent state rankings, won six individual conference championships and 13 medals overall on Nov. 22. The Gladiators had 121.5 points, easily besting state power Fresno City, which had 88.0 points.

Chabot’s individual conference champions were Dominic Cesena (141 pounds); Anthony Rubio (149); Terin O’Callaghan (157), Jiovanni Paredes (165); Zack Wally (174); and┬áChumkaur Dhaliwal (285).

Rubio is ranked No. 2 in the state at 149, and Chabot’s Victor Pereira is No. 2 at 165. Cesena is No. 5 at 141.

Also getting conference medals for Chabot were: 125 pounds: Raymond Monela, third; Darren Nguyen, fourth; 157: Sam Vera, fourth; 165: Pereira, second; 174: Elijah Johnson, third; 197: Ben Sira, fourth; and 285: Gabriel Cordona, fourth.
