Richmond hires Collins as new boys hoops coach

Richmond High is turning to a familiar face to front its boys basketball program this season, as former coach Rob Collins has accepted an offer to once again coach the Oilers, the longtime coach said Wednesday.

Collins resigned as coach at Amador Valley after the 2008 season. He amassed a 30-21 record in two years at Amador. Before taking over for the Dons, Collins was tremendously successful at Richmond, leading them to the NCS Division II championship game in 2006 and reaching the NCS playoffs twice in four years. Collins also coached at Acalanes for 11 years, leading the Dons to the NCS playoffs nine times.
