Story links from a busy night in the East Bay…

There was a lot going on tonight — league tournament championship games, final regular season basketball games, wrestling league championships. Here are links to some of the events we covered Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Saint Mary’s beat Salesian 62-59 for TCAL-Rock Division tournament championship in a game that was tight the entire way. MaAne’ Mosley scored the final four points of the game to help the Panthers beat Salesian for the first time in three tries this season. Mosley had a game-high 23 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL: El Cerrito finished strong in a 78-56 win over St. Patrick-St. Vincent in the TCAL-Rock Division title game. Carlos Johnson and Sayeed Pridgett had 17 points each for the Gauchos, who didn’t lose once in the challenging TCAL. The Gauchos petitioned up to the NCS Division II bracket this year and will be tough to beat in that bracket.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Pittsburg avenged an earlier loss to Deer Valley and, in doing so, captured its first Bay Valley Athletic League title since 2002. The Pirates won 67-60 behind Adorah Bugg’s 30 points.

WRESTLING: Liberty won another BVAL title, winning four individual championship matches. The Lions sent nine wrestlers to the finals. The only upset of the finals came when Deer Valley’s Savonn Sanders pinned Liberty’s Niko Zannarini — a returning NCS medalist and league champion — with two seconds left in the second round of the 128-pound title bout.

FOOTBALL: In case you missed it last night, College Park has hired Joe Tenorio as its new head coach. Tenorio was highly successful at Encinal. The job opened up when Bill Kepler resigned in December after 26 years as head coach.

Signing Day: The stories and photos

It was another busy signing day in the East Bay with a number of football recruits inking their letters of intent to top college programs. Plenty of other student-athletes signed in soccer.

Here’s our most updated list of local signees.

A feature on Clayton Valley Charter’s Kahlil McKenzie, who is rated the top recruit in the country by Scout even though he didn’t play his senior year.

And below you’ll find photos that were sent to us. Feel free to send us yours to prepscores@bayareanewsgroup.com.
