Johanna Grauer, Zoe Marrott earn state softball honors

Amador Valley High pitcher Johanna Grauer and Campolindo infielder Zoe Marrott each earned state honors from Cal-Hi Sports on Friday. Grauer was named the state junior of the year while Marrott was tabbed the state’s top freshman this season.

Here’s the full story from Cal-Hi Sports.

Grauer, who was the state sophomore of the year last season, was dominant throughout the year and a state player of the year candidate. But her season was cut short by an ankle injury suffered just before the start of the NCS playoffs. Marrott helped underdog Campolindo win the NCS Division III title. Both players have committed to Arizona State, according to Cal-Hi Sports.

Norco’s Kylie Reed, who will play at Cal next year, was given the Ms. Softball award, honoring the state’s top player.

Softball: Final national/state rankings

A great year for softball in the East Bay ends with James Logan and Amador Valley both ranked in the top five of the ESPN Powerade Fab 50 poll. Logan is ranked No. 4 nationally, just ahead of No. 5 Amador Valley. Logan beat Amador Valley 1-0 on June 1 for the North Coast Section Division I championship.

The Colts and Dons were also highly ranked in the final Cal-Hi Sports state rankings, coming in at No. 2 and 3 respectively.

Cal High and Concord cracked the final state rankings, as well. Cal is No. 27 after making the NCS Division I semifinals while NCS Division II champion Concord finished at No. 28.
