Softball fans are invited to Foothill High on Friday evening for a meet and greet with alum Val Arioto. The 2007 Foothill graduate is now an All-American at Cal and helped the U.S. national team win the World Cup in July.
Arioto will be on hand as part of Falcon Fest, a spirit-building event that is open to the entire community and free of charge. She will be at the sports field across from the pool entrance from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Several noteworthy instructors will be on hand for an elite softball clinic hosted by the East Bay Vipers on Sept. 10 and 11.
The impressive group of instructors is headlined by Ashley Charters, an NCAA champion while at Washington, and Team Canada member Jenn Salling, who also played at Washington. Others include University of Pacific All-American Gina Carbonatto, Pacific pitching coach Jessica Hancock and personal trainer Ron Cervellin.
The clinic will be broken up into two parts. There will be a six-hour clinic on both days from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. where players will be instructed on various skills as they shuttle from station to station. A separate clinic from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. will help players who want to focus on specific skills. Players can choose between hitting/bunting, infield, outfield, catching and pitching.
The clinic is for players ages 12 and up and will be held at Willow Pass Park in Concord. Players must register before Sept. 3. Cost is $200 for the 6-hour clinic and $100 for the specific skills clinic.
For more information or to register, email Martin Soares at msoares@raymorgan.com.

Alhambra High’s Kylee Perez still has three more years of high school softball left, but she has already made her college choice.
The incoming sophomore shortstop gave an oral commitment to UCLA on Monday, picking the Bruins over a handful of other Pac-10 programs.
“It was the best fit for me,” said Perez. “The reason I chose UCLA was because of the academics and athletic tradition. Also the coaches were exactly what I was looking for. I’ve had UCLA in mind for awhile. I took a visit there and it was definitely a fit for me.”
Perez made a big impression in her first year of high school softball, hitting .628 for the North Coast Section Division III champion Bulldogs. A leadoff hitter, Perez was also named MVP of the Diablo Foothill Athletic League, hit nine home runs, drove in 29, scored 41 times and stole 35 bases.
UCLA won the NCAA championship in 2010 and has won 12 national titles since 1982.
