A few people have asked me when softball previews are coming out and the answer is early next week, either March 28 or 29. Look for breakdowns on each league as well as our first poll. I’ve been so preoccupied covering state playoff basketball that I haven’t been able to get out to a softball game yet. So I’m turning to you, softball fans, to get the discussion going. Will James Logan repeat as Division I champions? Can Concord get back to the Division II title game despite losing three quality pitchers? Will this be the year someone dethrones Freedom in the BVAL? Who are the other teams to watch out for?

I wanted to pass along the word to all the softball fans out there that one of the nation’s top pitchers, Monica Abbott, will be making an appearance at Monte Vista High’s softball clinic on Feb. 12.
Abbott, a NorCal native who won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2008 Olympics, will speak about softball around 11:30 a.m. then sign autographs. The clinic is for girls ages 8-12, but coaches and others can observe the clinic and see Abbott for a small fee.
For more on the clinic or to sign up, go to Monte Vista’s softball website at montevistasoftball.com.
