Welcome to Bakersfield everyone. We are about to depart for the one and only Rabobank Arena, but before I hit press row and start updating matches, I wanted to give a few quick hitters.

So, I expected De La Salle to do fairly well at today’s EBAL wrestling championships. Upon further review, I may have lowballed the Spartans a little.

Since the BVAL meet went long last night, I didn’t have a chance to post any thoughts from the tourney. So, here they are.

For those who attended last year’s North Coast Section dual meet tournament at Liberty, you won’t be heading to Brentwood for this year’s event. This time around, Albany High will host the tournament on Feb. 14. It’s an all-day event, but it’s normally done around 6 or 7 p.m.
Also, there were a few classification changes that caught my eye. With the 3A East Bay enrollment cap at 2,076 and above, De La Salle (which combines with Carondelet for enrollment purposes) would move into the 3A field if they qualify. And Liberty, last year’s 3A champion, checks in at 2,033 students, which means the Lions would drop to the 2A East Bay bracket this year. So, both of last year’s champs could be in different brackets if they make it back this year.
