Tyler Mason, the former Chabot College and San Leandro High football star, has confirmed he has just enrolled at Division-I Middle Tennessee State.
Mason, who has already signed a letter-of-intent, racked up 1,800 all-purpose yards for Chabot this past season with 12 touchdowns and averaged 27.3 yards per-kickoff return and one touchdown. He earned numerous post-season honors, including the Most Valuable Offensive Player in the Golden Gate Conference as well as first-team All-State and All-American as an all-purpose back.
“I came for a visit two weeks ago and I was really excited on what I can bring to the team,” Mason said, who decided on Middle Tennessee after recruiting trips to Hawaii and Arkansas State.
The Blue Raiders went 10-3 overall, 7-1 in the Sun Belt Conference and defeated Southern Miss 42-32 in the New Orleans bowl. Middle Tennessee State will be one of the favorites for the Sun-Belt conference title in the upcoming season.
Mason becomes the sixth junior college player to sign with the Blue Raiders. Middle Tennessee State is coached by Rich Stockstill, who has a 27-23 record in four years as the Blue Raiders head coach.
“They have a really good coaching staff and we made a connection right away,” Mason added.
Mason is expected to will play a handful of positions, including running back, slot receiver as well as punt and kickoff returns and is expected to have an opportunity to play right away.
