Kiffin hospitalized

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 13th, 2007 at 2:57 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is resting in a Napa-area hospital with a viral infection, a Raiders spokesman said.

Public relations director Mike Taylor said Kiffin has been feeling ill for “a couple of days” and was taken to the hospital Monday for observation. He said it was unclear who would take charge of Monday’s practice session.

Kiffin was scheduled to speak with reporters Sunday night by conference call. The conference was canceled when Taylor said Kiffin was “under the weather.”

The Raiders announced Saturday night they were altering their practice schedule and having a single practice Monday at 2:45 rather than a double session at 8:45 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The current schedule calls for Tuesday to be a double session at 8:45 a.m. and 7 p.m.

More to come later . . .

Someone is already trying to poison our coach?! They must be running scared to already stoop to that level. Is Mike Shanarat in town?

  5. Hit & Run Nameless Sissy Says:

Yeah, I didn’t see a lot of fire out of him on the sideline, but I’m unfamiliar with his sideline style. Nice debut though, Get Well Kiff.

  6. KoolKell Says:

I liked the look of this offense. I thought I saw an USC type O, not an dink & dunk, but an offense that relys on playmakers. My first impressions where these guys knew what they wanted to do.

  7. Ernesto Flores Says:

Kiffen…..even when your sick your plan pretty much played out to what I would say is at about 85%. Not bad, really. Just consider last year. I hope you feel better. Rest because after you get out you won’t be resting until we get our fourth trophy.

  15. RaiderDogg Says:

Coach Kiffin get well soon, way to lead by example. It’s almost like a priest performing an exorcism. The priest always ends up getting sick after exorcising all the demons. Kiff has yet to exorcise all the demons from last year but he is off to an excellent start.

I dont understand , if the raiders knew that they were taking JR with the first pick. Why did they keep it a secrert. They should’ve been negotiating with him before the draft, maybe then the deal would’ve been completed already!!

Take it easy Lane . You have been going nonstop for months and dont neglect that hot wife of yours… gotta go 2 and 1 to start the season!!!

    Hope he recovers well folks.

Meanwhile I have ben getting guff for saying DC did better than Green . I’ve made this list and would appreciate any intelligent comments on my analysis. :

OK, here’s what Culppeper did and what Green did play by play(passes only with other notes):

    Green:

    1-Inc-very low and deflected
2-Inc-low. Was pressured and escaped, had plenty of running room, threw instead.
3-Inc-terrible throw, threw into coverage, had all day
    4-Comp
    5-Comp-very nice threaded throw
6-Inc-very badly underthrown to an open Ginn, INT out of bounds
    7-Inc-bad wobbly throw
    8–comp
    9–Inc-badly underthrown
10-INT-NOT Green’s fault. Hit receiver square on the numbers and bounced off.
    11-Comp for negative yards
    12-Comp-great 30 yard threaded throw.
    13-Inc-dropped
    14-Comp-short intentional dump
    15-Inc-dump ob.

Observation: Green is VERY rusty, and while he is nifty at getting himself out of trouble, often throws instead of taking off when he has daylight in front of him.

Culpepper(I missed one of his completions):

    1-Inc-behind, WR didn’t turn.
    2-Comp
    3-Inc-overthrown
4-Inc-dropped, would have been 15 yard gain at least.
    5-Inc-overthrown intentional dump
6-Comp-perfect arcing on target 50 yd bomb.
    7-Inc-dropped
    8-Inc-dropped
    9-Comp-perfect threaded ball
    10-Comp
    11-Inc-dropped-would have been 30 yds.
    12-missed it

Observations: While Culpepper had some fumbling problems, he is very mobile again, escapes pressure well, and if those 4 balls had not been dropped, his rating and pass percentage would have been very high.

    Clearly he deserved the chance.

  22. PR.Raider Says:

I agree with u buddy, Miami shouldve gave him a chance to compete. We are lucky that he was available.

  23. Charger Says:

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Coach Kiffin. Stay in the hosp. and recover. The Raiders aren’t going to win a game in September anyway.

  24. RAIDERS RULE Says:

Hey Kiff just get well baby!

  25. PR.Raider Says:

Surprise! Surprise!! It’s the MYOPIAN!!!! lol

  26. DannyBoy Says:

I gotta hand it to Kiff’s squad folks…..even in a 1st preseason game your unit looked HUNGRY. Man o man if our OL doesn’t get together, whoever our QB is may have to wear the first regular season ‘redshirt’ ever…hehe.

  27. PR.Raider Says:

It’s kinda what we dealt with last year, i hope it doesnt get that bad 4 u guys. no fan deserves to go through that !Believe me it’s painful. anyways about DC he also was playn with our 3rd O,plus he’s still needs to get more familiar with the system. He is going to get better. Hope it;s the same with Green.

  28. NY RAIDER Says:

You know if you just ignore that Charger fan he will just quit blogging here with his repeditive takes. Or we could wait untill he realizes that Norv Turner is the head coach of his team, and that they will be lucky to go 8-8. So like the great Ron Burgundy once said: “Go F*ck yourself San Diego.” Go RAIDERS!

  31. ArmyRaider Says:

IN LANE WE TRUST!!! RAIDERS RAIDERS RAIDERS!!!

  32. Tommy trojan Says:

as a fan that has blead silver and black, as well as cardinal and gold, for the last 17 years (i’m 17 and not afraid to admit it),i have already sent kiffin a get well card, hope it’s not serious and that he get’s better soon, he showed some heart by coaching under the weather, good example by the HC, wouldn’t have expected anything less from a true Trojan, get well, and charger, u are on here every day, posting multiple times a day using the same stupid @ss word that is a more accurate assessment of yourself than anyone on this blog, don’t you have a job/girlfriend/life, oh, i forgot, your a loser dolts fan, i got confused because you spend your whole excuse for an existence on a RAIDER NATION blog, talking cr@p about a team that has 3 Superbowls to your 0, but as i said earlier, keep posting, we enjoy laughing at you, you are quickly becoming the mascot/pet of this blog, albeit and irritable little b!tch, you are the dolts fan who so desperately wants to be a member of the raider nation, understandable yet very sad, get well Fast Lane, WIN, LOSE, or TIE, RAIDERS till I DIE!!!

Kiff will be fine, it won’t be long before he is making all of our opponents sick!!! Go Raiders!

  36. raiderfanindonkeycountry Says:

Did anybody else catch the whiners and the donkeys complaining that they had to start camp late because they played there first game monday night. The NFL has a rule that you can’t start camp more than 15 days before your first pre-season game. The humor lies in the fact that they both tried to set up a date to scrimmage our Raiders but The Raiders said due to scheduling conflicts that would be impossible. In other words Al said “Bite me”!

  37. raiderfanindonkeycountry Says:

Get well Coach, gotta take the whiners next. And oops , it’s their. My spell check link disapeared.

Hey, he just proved he can win football games when he’s delerious with the flu, the NFL should be scared!!!!

  40. prupru45 Says:

We finally have a coach with a imagination, I know it’s just one game, but you can really see the team is responding to the new system, which is encouraging, GOOD JOB KIFF GET WELL SOON PLAYA”

  41. SilverEye Says:

Some encouraging signs on offense…Walter-Culpepper-McCown starters next game? Seems only fair.
