Sapp makes room for Warren
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 21st, 2007 at 4:27 pm in Oakland Raiders.
So much for the theory that Warren Sapp had created locker room discord because of his reaction to the acquisition of defensive tackle Gerard Warren.
On Monday, Sapp said candidly that he wasn’t sure if Warren could make his “top eight.” He considers his defensive linemates a team within a team, and was sticking up for his guys.
Warren became part of that team Tuesday, and the two linemen were seen walking off the field together and laughing following practice.
“He just said, `Go to work, baby, you’re in Oakland now,’ ” Warren said. “Go and do what we know how to do which is play ball.”
Warren, sent packing from Denver after being told he didn’t fit into the defensive scheme of new coordinator Jim Bates, was glad to be back with an attacking defense. The Broncos wanted him to play a two-gap style in which he basically ties up offensive linemen for others to make plays, while the Raiders want him to be aggressive and make plays himself.
Warren said while in high school in Florida, he watched Sapp closely at Miami and later in in Tampa.
“Once he went to Tampa that’s who I kind of patterned and designed my game after,” Warren said.
Warren said once it was determined he would be traded, his agent was talking about potential deals with Washington and Indianapolis. The Raiders never even came up.
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan made it clear beating the Raiders was a priority.
“It was stated the first day you come into the building so you know point blank period that whenever we line up against the silver and black it was an important game,” Warren said.
Kiffin said Warren did his first-day work with the scout team and did not have a handle on how well he did. He said he hoped Warren would see time against St. Louis Friday night.
More news and notes:
– Kiffin said he would name a starting quarterback for Friday’s game against St. Louis on Wednesday. The guess here is that Culpepper will get his chance to start, but Kiffin said the starter isn’t necessarily going to be the Week 1 starter against Detroit.
When asked if he wished he had his quarterback picked by now, Kiffin said, “Sure, I’d love for that to to happen. I’d have loved for it to happen months ago. But it hasn’t yet, and hopefully it will soon.”
– Safety Donovin Darius, who had been slowed by a calf injury, was a surprise participant in practice.
“We didn’t even know if he was going to practice and he jumped in there and looked well,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin said Darius might play against St. Louis.
– Former 49ers and Raiders wide receiver Jerry Rice was on site filiming interviews for Fox Sports.
“I did some interviews at the (baseball) All-Star game, and when the doors open, this crush of reporters comes out and you have to fight for your position,” Rice said. “Now I know what you guys go through.”
– Fullback Justin Griffith, who played with Michael Vick in Atlanta, believes his former teammate should get another chance to play in the NFL.
“I think everybody makes mistakes and he deserves a chance to come back to the game, like several other guys. You see Ricky Williams, left, he came back, he had a chance to come back,” Griffith said. “People say it’s strike three for Mike Vick, but it’s really strike one. Give him a chance to do his time, then he can come back.”
– Cornerback Stanford Routt, who Kiffin said would not be available until the opener because of a knee injury, was with a club trainer making hard cuts and running without a trace of a limp.
– Those who did not practice included S Hiram Eugene (wrist), CB Duane Starks (hamstring and WR Chris McFoy. RB Michael Bush remains on the physically unable to perform list and has not joined drills or team sessions.
Kiffin said Eugene’s wrist injury was not serious enough to require surgery.

I thought Sapp’s comments were just him sticking up for his guys and showing some faith in the guys that have been there from day 1. I think he is one of the best leaders we have and I’m glad he’s here. Thanks Jerry.

repost form last blog:
Love this message board. No place like it for Raider news and good banter.
Sapp is a monster on the field and I think his comments, like someone metioned before are for the protection and morale of the rest of the D. Also, I think he wants to set a tone for G. Warren coming in that this is a “hard work” environment and this big man is not going to be handed anything in Oakland.

Great stuff as always, Jerry…. Good to see Sapp and Warren working together…

Thanks Jerry, as always great information. I completely agree with NPap!!! That was a good post. Hopefully Warren will be able to take some snaps vs the rams. I’d sure like to see him out there. Thanks once again!!!

gotta love sapp! our D is gonna be awesome this year.
August 21st, 2007 at 5:08 pm
Hopefully Routt will be able to get in the last preseason game and mix it up a little bit. He really needs to step it up this year, he has all the physical attributes. We can go w/ our wolverine package on nickel downs w/ Huff sliding over to corner but we really need a true third corner to pair with Ash and Fabe. Carr can make some plays but he will be overmatched against a lot of NFL recievers.
August 21st, 2007 at 5:10 pm
I also like the Warren pick up as a low cost move. He can at least spell Sands and Sapp, he was a top 5 draft pick and you can never have too many d-lineman. Looks like the end for Brayton though.

J McD has the best info. Being a S & B fan on the east coast after living in Oaktown, McD is the only place for info. Our D is going to be DOMINANT this year, our O line is getting coaching that will help them perform, and our offense is going to surprise. A lighter, faster Sapp is going to be scary.
Oh, by the way, The Pats are going to find out what Patsys they were to take on over-the- hill Moss.
East Coast S & B
August 21st, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Randy Moss, he was a huge talent playing in turf (viking days)
In grass he is toast
His speed is turf speed
He no longer is fast
Pats will find that out
Is it ironic that Moss is gone and Culpeper is here?
August 21st, 2007 at 5:44 pm
I love this site. I am about to go to work here in Australia and the “major” sites have the same articles between them.
There is nothing to get excited about at work unless I check this site. Thanks J-Mac and some thanks to Stevo also.
This is going to be a good year. No more out of date crap.
August 21st, 2007 at 5:52 pm
Warren Warren & Co.
Hopefully the new DT will become part of the regular rotation and produce. It’s nice when you can have another big body out there on D to stop the likes of LT, LJ, and TH (or whoever lines up in Denver).
August 21st, 2007 at 5:58 pm
I dont know if the patsy’s release moss would the nation be willing to take him back just to see the duo of dante and randy one more gen.(:

Shinyhand loves to beat Al D, and he has done so regularly. I have always said that he pushes his teams too hard and that by the post season they are spent. The Donks don’t have another gear because Shinyhand has them in that gear from the gate.
Well, without Elway his he has no rings. Donks are on the way down, the Chef’s are really on the way down, and the Dolts, well Norval is ’nuff said.
The AFC West is winnable. Kiffin has to brainwash the boys to win in the division and the rest will take care of itself.
How bout this quote, “We’ll always look to add pieces that may help us. Here’s potentially a really good player. If he is, we made ourselves better. If he isn’t, then he won’t be here” — Coach Kiffin
HELLO, there is a new sheriff in town! The NFL has some surprises coming its way via the Silver and Black in the seasons to come. This time Al will pay and a new age of Raider football will be ushered in. Go Raiders!
August 21st, 2007 at 6:09 pm
SC RAIDER:
If G. Warren pans out the odd man out may be Hawthorne. I think Brayton woill stay because of his ability to play DE & DT. Brayton could also help on ST.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:13 pm
Is it just me, or is Charger’s @$$hole starting to bite holes in his shorts as the blight that is Norval is permeating the Chargeless! That clown loves to point to last year and how Raider fans jumped off the wagon but I already see signs that he will go away when the Raiders start winning.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:25 pm
East Coast,
Very true Moss and his hammy havent practiced for almost a month now. How does that help WR -QB chemistry?
I am all about loyalty to your ex-teammates and not deserting a friend when he is down But i think Griffith should support Vick by giving him a reality check as opposed to adopting a ‘do you time and all’s forgiven’ line. Ron Mexico, and his dog fighting -hidden compartment for dope having azz should realize that in the Rodger Goodell NFL he will be used as an example that no matter who you are you must act like the role model each player happens to be.
NFL teams (read: companies selling a product) can not afford to have men who think they are above the law on their rosters.
i dont want to see Griffith get maligned like clinton Portis and his “its just a dog” sound byte.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Hopefully our Donkey additons - Warren and Carlisle - can help us win Sept. 16…we have to win our division games…
I hate these talking heads with their, Raiders will improve to 6-10 or be thrilled with 8-8….the playoffs are there for the taking…all teams are 0-0!

CHAD E:
The Raiders could make some noise in the AFC West in a year or two. The youth movement at the QB position have taken place with Coyle, Cutler, Rivers, & Russell (if he signs). Right now I think the Chargers are probably ahead of the other three teams with Rivers. AT RB the Chargers (LT) and Chiefs (LJ) are clearly better than what the Raiders or Broncos have. Although I think the Raiders have the best depth at the position (Jordan, Rhodes, Fargas, & Bush). What would be really nice is if the Raiders have the opportunity to select Darren McFadden (RB, Arkansas) in the 2008 draft. Of course that would mean another bad year in 2007. But wouldn’t a backfield of Russell and McFadden be nice?
August 21st, 2007 at 6:39 pm
WHAT??
August 21st, 2007 at 6:41 pm
Perceptive,
Where are you at? I am dragging through a slow work day in Melbourne. And this site is the greatest.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Hey Raider Fans…Im stuck out here in Fort Knox Kentucky, and I LOVE this site for RAIDER
NEWS!!! Keep it coming….to add some insight, the RAIDERS have NO CORNERBACKS……this will be shown in the season….That is my primary concern….Everything on Offense will be average, with spurts on greatness…..Defense is solid OTHER than the cornerback position…..Keep it comin Raider Fans…Kiffin is for real…..BELEIVE
August 21st, 2007 at 6:43 pm
808 Raider: You may be right. Brayton does have that flexibility but remember T. Kelly also has the ability to flip flop DT/DE. Of course it would be nice to have two guys who could do that but we will just have to see how it plays out. Does anyone know the cut down dates? I think there are two or three before we have to go with our final 53 and one should be coming up soon.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:44 pm
WHAT??
I’m thinking 6 wins is a guarantee with our D and improved O line.
Al said JRuss wouldn’t be ready until next season so there’s no rush to sign him. If we can get 8 wins, he can sit on the bench and watch while not taking a serious beating as a rookie. As a 2nd year player 1st year starter the game will slow down for him similar to Palmer in comparison to a rookie.
808 consider this:
QB JRuss
RB Michael Bush
RB Rhodes
TE Miller
WR Porter
WR Curry
WR Williams
WR Higgins
This team is built for the future. Two years from now we should be thinking AFT Championship game.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:47 pm
G. Warren could be the missing piece of the puzzle. The run defense will be stellar. The defense was good last year, but it had some holes. The Raiders have done a thorough job of plugging the holes. Quentin moses can get to the QB. He will make for an excellent addition opposite of Burgess. Darius brings veteran Leadership. I think Darius will have a run in Oakland and impact on the defense similar to John Lynch in Denver. Warren is a big man who can move. I am stunned that they kicked him to the gutter, and brought in Sam Adams. Sam Adams was done when he played in Oakland. That being said G. Warren can still play and he will clog the middle of the defense for the Raider’s D. I think the Raiders have the best defense in the league beause of these three players being added to an already stellar group of players. All three players bring an instant impact with the skill set that they have.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:47 pm
I wonder how we are going to man up on the Lions when they go to a 3 WR set.
3 WR Set
Nnamdi Asomugha vs. Roy Williams
Fabian Washington vs. Mike Furrey
Stanford Routt vs. Calvin Johnson
I honestly see this as a mismatch for the Raiders. Asomugha can handle Williams and Washington can handle Furrey but what about Johnson? Routt would get schooled.
What do we do if they Lions have a 2 WR set with Williams and Johnson? Is Washington too small to cover Johnson? Should we cover him with Asomugha and let Washington cover Williams? Washington has the speed to match up with Johnson. This is where our pass rush comes in. I believe we can get constant pressure on Kitna which will allow us to hold down their WR’s. I have a feeling that we will be using our Wolverine package quite a bit. Instead of having Routt vs. Johnson, we will probably have Huff vs. Johnson. That will be interesting as all hell.
August 21st, 2007 at 6:54 pm
Jon Gruden used to break the season into quarters. The Raiders overall schedule looks very tough but the first quarter is ripe for them to get off to a fast start.
Detroit – The #2 pick in the draft after Oakland is hardly a powerhouse. Despite predictions of Kitna putting up 5,000 yards passing the 4 WR sets Mike Martz wants to use may not last in Oakland. How long can Detroit leave 2nd year RT Jon Scott 1-on-1 with Burgess? Is Tatum Bell a real RB or another Broncos flavor of the year?
On offense the Raiders will find a Detroit defense that was a big reason they lost last year. Kiffin could cut his teeth against an ideal opponent.
Denver – The Raiders played a Jake Plummer team close last year. Can Rob Ryan put heat on young Cutler while Raider corners clamp down on some good receivers? The big question will be can the Raiders slow down Denver’s running game.
On offense the Raiders will find a Denver D-line in disarray and no run-stuffing Al Wilson at linebacker. Grinding it out on the ground could make this anybody’s game. At least it won’t be snowing. The Broncos new 2-gap system is exploitable by a zone scheme because blockers don’t tie up with D-line.
Cleveland – The #3 pick in the draft and another winnable home game. The Raiders had a solid halftime lead on Cleveland last year until Shell & Co got out-adjusted at halftime. Cleveland has a decent running game so expect Ryan to try to force Charlie Frye or Brady Quinn to pass.
On offense the Raiders had some success last year against Cleveland and assuming they are at all improved it will be another good chance for a home win.
Miami – Everybody loves Miami every year, and then they actually play. The heat in Miami may be the biggest challenge. Trent Green is having a terrible camp so far and may never return to the form he once had. Even if he does he never really lit Oakland up. Stopping the run will again be the key as Miami has a better running game.
On offense the Raiders need to run at aging Jason Taylor and the LB’s. Miami’s pass rush is far more formidable and Cable’s guys need to have a good game in the trenches.
Two very winnable home games and two road games against average teams could give the Raiders the kind of start to the season they need to build confidence.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:08 pm
Luckily most of our defenders are tall so if they get their hands up it could create some turnovers.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Coach on Wheels - Great breakdown. It will be fun to watch Kiffin vs. Martz and Marinelli vs. Ryan. The odds go to the Raiders because of their defense.
If the Cowboys-Broncos pre-season game is any indication, they Bronx are seriously lacking pass protection and Cutler may not be ready for what the Raiders will deliver when they play. Travis Henry will have to carry that team next year and if he doesn’t Cutler will struggle but I do think Cutler is in a great situation. I agree that Denver will be weaker on the defense but their pass coverage will be tougher with Dre Bly and it will be important for our 3rd WR to step up and hopefully that will be Mike Williams.
Cleveland will need to rely on Jamal Lewis the same way the Broncos will rely on Henry but Lewis is to lose 2 more years in one season playing for them. He may be pumped up this year but he is going to take a beating with any of those QB’s at the helm.
The plus for the Dolphins is the knowledge Cam Cameron and Trent Green have regarding the Raiders but thats also a plus for the Raiders because our talent and coaching and knowledge of both of them can beat whatever they have and Trent Green just might not make it past the Raiders next year in terms of injuries. We used to be the QB Killas and we just might be that again this year.
I have been thinking the same thing as you. I honestly think we have the opportunity at a 4-0 start but a more than likely 3-1 considering we will probably lose to Denver in Denver and beat them in Oakland.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:16 pm
I just decided that I hate Oren O’Neil, and for that matter, anyone who advocates for Michael Vick.
The Ricky Williams analogy is absurd! I don’t think the league should even TEST for THC, for one. Two, there’s a light year of qualitative difference between smokin’ a lil’ sticky-icky and EXECUTING DOGS. STFU, O’Neil. I hope they cut your punk azz.
And if the Raiders decide that Michael Vick’s a good enough guy to play in this league come 201-something, I’ll cancel my season tix and put my Silver & Black in storage until he’s gone.
He’s a terrible human being.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Huff 24,
I have been worrying about the same thing. I think we are a better team than the Lions but the game boils down to match ups and I don’t see how we can match up with their 3 WR set. Carr can not cover a guy of CJ’s size and ability. I think you are right the best chance we have is matching Huff up against him. At least he will be used to the size disparity having covered Gates and TG last year. The key is creating enough pressure to force Kitna into mistakes. We have to make him turn the ball over and shorten the field for our very green offense. The Lions actually scare me quite a bit with the problems they can create while we are short at CB. Maybe Starks can get healthy and at least give us a vet to match up with CJ.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:21 pm
THRO - You mean Justin Griffith.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:21 pm
Denver’s D-line may very well be weak, but let’s hold judgement on that O-line for now. I believe 3 Oline starters DNP for the Dallas game. I believe the week before they looked better.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Great Site!! Just as Big Al Says, ” Just win baby!” Its the Raiders Time. First the
Division, Then the Playoffs, And Team of the Decades! Long live Al Davis!!!
August 21st, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Typical - Sapp running off at the mouth again without thinking about what he says. Sapp is an a$$. Why did he suddenly find room for him? The man is too stupid to even know his own feelings. Moron.
August 21st, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Vick wont go to the raiders, he will be lucky to ever play in the nfl ever again, plus no team owner wants the rage of peta(people eating tasty animals) haha theyd rather kill a human than an animal
August 21st, 2007 at 7:48 pm
BTW it is very unlikely that Vick is the only NFL guy involved in dogfighting. I would expect to find more names “mysteriously” come up in this case.
August 21st, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Sapp is a cool guy, he can run his mouth when ever he wants
August 21st, 2007 at 8:18 pm
I think what we need right now is to add another recievr who can stretch the field and cause for double teams to sure up our pass game. I wonder what would have to give up for someone like andre or chad johnson?
August 21st, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Sapp is a country-dumb has been.
August 21st, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Sapp is freakin’ hilarious. The whole “my 8 guys” thing got blown way out of proportion by the media. He is a baller and I love how dedicated he is to shed the lbs instead of just packing on the lbs to be a space eater when that is not what he is. He is just the latest in a long line of good players to find a second home in Silver and Black when the original team has cast them away.
Speaking of cast-offs and has-beens We’ll see about C-pep I think he wants a One and Done season to make himself more viable on the market. So good luck to him, I thought he was done for last year and but he is looking decent for us. Just hold onto the damn ball
August 21st, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Al Davis Quit Sabotaging Your Coach. You’re one twisted knee away from 4-12. Quit BullsH*t*in and sign your Quarterback!
August 21st, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Stick to your guns Al. Fat-Boy is not worth mortaging our future. He hasn’t proved SH-T. Let him sit and rot.
August 21st, 2007 at 9:09 pm
I agree with you HolyToledo. “Fat-Boy” can buy just as many Twinkies with 30 million as he can with 32 million. The guy hasn’t proved crap and he has the gaul to want more money than proven veterns who have been in the league a lot longer. Use the $ and pay Burgess and company!!!
August 21st, 2007 at 9:12 pm
I agree guys. Ship Russell out and use the cash to keep some guys who will be free agents. I am beginning to hate JRuss. Negative vibes from this dude. We don’t need it. We seem to be moving in right direction and he’s distracting.
August 21st, 2007 at 9:35 pm
A revisit to the FS being the QB of the defense……… I just happened to be watching NFLN’s College Football Now and a LSU beat writer referred to departed LaRon Landry as the QB of the defense and so did Paul Bermeier the host analyst of the show. Both referred to him as the QB of the D. So I wonder who this everybody else is? LaRon Landry played FS on that defense not MLB and was drafted by the Redskins high in the first rd.
Watch how B J Ward plays that position he brings a very physical style of play and is aggressive in his approach which shows confidence in his ability. So does Hiram Eugene occasionally they play both of them at the same time although they list them both as FS’s. Which tells me Rob-O really likes their style, so we’ll see how this thing plays out.
Another thing when you speak of a free/weak safety or strong safety all your talking about is where the TE lines up. The SS lines up over the TE while the weak side safety plays the opposite side but a little deeper and near the middle of the field. So as not to give an easy read to the QB. Although as you know there are all types of alignments, zones 2deeps and things you can throw at the Qb to confuse him. So you can get caught up in samantics.
By the way Mike Mayock is one of the best scouts out there, he’s on that network.
August 21st, 2007 at 9:39 pm
The deal will get done. There’s too much at stake on both sides. Soon one side will crack and start the talks and you’ll see it move quickly from that point on. If not then you can really atart to worry.
August 21st, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Huff24,
I wouldn’t worry too much about who is going to matchup with Calvin Johnson and Roy. If our D-line gets any pressure on Kitna, he won’t be able to find anyone downfield. Kitna makes alot of mistakes in the face of pressure. His stats will looks good at the end of the day, but he will throw 2+ interceptions if we get in his face. Plus Detroit on the road, in the Black Hole, fu**kin please!
August 21st, 2007 at 10:19 pm
I know you guy’s are worried about Detroit’s WR’s and I’m concerned as well but trust we match up well with them. That is not to say they won’t make plays. Nnamdi will play CJ and Wash will play Williams. Furrey is my reason for concern but I’m very comfortable with Routt
because I think he’s very underrated as a cover guy. Everybody get’s beat, no one wins althe time. But he has great ability and pretty good technigue. It’s just Furrey is a top notch wideout. So we have to give him help. That’s where Stu comes in. And this young kid from Northwestern Marquice Cole is a player.
But most important is what’s up front!!!!….. if we pressure Kitna he’ll throw us a couple and that my friends is your ballgame!!!!!!!!
August 21st, 2007 at 10:25 pm
Wilmac you read my mind ha! that’s how you win in the NFL pressure baby!!
August 21st, 2007 at 10:27 pm
The Greatest Show on Turf II has some problems facing us that Martz didn’t have in St Louis
1) We have a “slow” grass field.
2) The Lions don’t have Tory Holt / Bruce caliber WR’s. CJ is the only addition to last year’s Martz-Kitna team that didn’t win much.
3) The Lions have no M Faulk. The Raiders can go after Kitna and not let Detroit use 4 WR sets.
I like the match-up.
August 21st, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Huff… I’ve been thinking about the Detroit game, too. I think what may happen is that Rob-O will figure a way to have Huff cover one of their guys in the three-wide set. He’s run a sub 4.4 so we know he can run with just about anyone.
I’ve watched both of their games this preseason, and unless they can do a better job protecting Kitna we may not have to worry about too many three-wides (except maybe on 3rd and 18). Detroit gave up a lot of sacks last year and they don’t look a whole lot better in that department at present…
August 21st, 2007 at 10:38 pm
I think the key to the Detroit game will be discipline on defense; Martz will know that we can pressure Kitna and we will need to be alert for screens and misdirection stuff. Sometimes we can be a little too agressive and overpursue things, so if folks are patient and stay with their assignments we should be able to do a decent job containing them.
August 21st, 2007 at 10:56 pm
I gotta a feeling CJ gonna make the Raiders regret they’d passed on him taking Russell. Oh well.. it’s a game of great defense against an explosive Martz offense scheme. I say blitz the heck outta Kitna so he won’t have time to throw downfield. The Lions don’t have a great running scheme.
August 21st, 2007 at 10:57 pm
Hold it man! Detroit has to defend us as well. this is not a one way thing. If Jordan plays anything like he did against the niners, they are in trouble B4 it starts. Daunte will victimize that defense. Porter, Curry and Williams ain’t no picnic and don’t forget my 2headed TE’s. We will come after them like you can’t believe. You guy’s are sleepin’ on Kiffins’ game-planning and play-calling skills, that’s the primary reason this kid is here. Don’t Sleep!!!!
August 21st, 2007 at 11:06 pm
This game isn’t just about matchups. It’s about the total team. Detroit is a bad team.
Sapp isn’t a dumb a@$. He is just sticking up for his boys. He will probably have a second career in broadcasting when he is done.
The problem with Vick coming back is the PR surrounded by a QB. If he was a lineman or something it’s different, but no team is going to want to market to their fans w/ the image he now has.
Why is everyone upset w/ Russell? He hasn’t said or done anything. His agents and Al are the ones that can’t get a deal done. He has nothing to do with it. I’m sure he would love to have been here….
August 21st, 2007 at 11:06 pm
LOL.. Porter ain’t even shown up. You mean Curry, Williams, Gabriel, Whitted and Taylor. The WRs gonna shred Lions defense. Porter gonna be an nonfactor this season. IMO
August 21st, 2007 at 11:12 pm
You’ve gotta be kiddin’ dude, this is pre-season get a clue. I’ll sell you one for $200
August 21st, 2007 at 11:13 pm
I bet all Gabriel and Whitted on another team would PRODUCE more than that sorry ass whiny bitch Porter. Thanks Porter… 19 totals in 2006 for 5 million per season. A whiny unprofessional bitch who don’t wanna play for a coach. LOL
August 21st, 2007 at 11:16 pm
Nice, for a change, to have enough confidence in the offense to know it will be a factor this time around.
I know it’s early, but it sure does feel like we’re already light years ahead of last year.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:20 pm
EastCoastRaider - You say Detroit is a bad team but alot of people are saying the same thing about us. I can’t say that I have the patience to sit and watch a Detroit Lions game and find out who everybody is but I’m sure they have talents just like us. We’re different in the fact that we have a #3 defense and they don’t but Martz does make their offense very formidable and he knows how to utilize his personnel properly. He has really helped make Kitna look like a better QB and he has talent surrounding him with CJ, Roy Williams is a stud, Furrey is a Ed McCaffrey type playmaker and they have Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett at RB with the possibility of a Kevin Jones return. The Lions defense wasn’t great last year but they are in the 2nd year of the system with Marinelli so you have to say they will be improved. People are going to underestimate the Raiders and its up to us not to underestimate another team in the same fashion. The Raiders have the upperhand in my mind no doubt but don’t be surprised if the game is close. We’re also lucky to play the game in Oakland and that will also aid us in a win.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:21 pm
We will soon see! The 2 guy’s you mentioned will certainly be with another team and Porter may lead this one in receptions. I’ll give you this much he really disappointed me last year.
but that was last year everything he has done this year has the coaches very excited trust me.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Fellas.. I’m good at math. Porter got $250,000 per yard last 2006 season. He had 19 total yards for the entire season! LOL… Blaming Shell is ZERO excuse.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:26 pm
If I was coach. I would tell Porter that the 1st qtr. offense run thru him and if he don’t get at least 50 yards he’s released. This is against piss poor secondary like the Cards, 49ers, and Rams. No more whiny mamma BS to Al Davis. LOL
August 21st, 2007 at 11:27 pm
Fanatic… I respect your math skills, and was thinking that there’s one more equation for you… how many days between last year’s training camp and this year’s?
Lotsa water under the bridge since then.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:28 pm
I know that the issue is between Al Davis and JR’s agents but you have to fault JR for not taking a stand in this. If JR wanted this deal to get done, he would have done something in order to push for this to get done. He has the option of switching agents and he has a voice so he can say something to his crew. JR has control and if he was a true leader, he would stand up and say, “Get a deal done NOW!!! I want to be a Raider and our demands are too much. All in all, each party is guilty for something and its those somethings that we don’t know about. Each party probably feels like they are getting the raw end of the deal and its going to have to be a triangle effect for everyone to be happy. That may never happen and I personally don’t care. I think this draft process is flawed and I would love for Al Davis to break the trend, even if it means we don’t sign Jamarcus Russell. Somebody has to fix the system and Al Davis is historic for being the first to do many things and hes a catalyst for why the NFL is what it is today. I believe our team is in good hands and I think we can get good value in trading JR. We have options to draft another QB next year or to simply pay our own players what they deserve. One player does not make or break a team and JR is one player. The Raiders have become a team of chemistry and cohesivenss and thats something that I would like to continue.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:33 pm
Raiders Fanatic - Please don’t be an idiot. Porter is a skillful WR that doesn’t have to prove anything. We know what the guy can do and it’s important that he stay healthy. We have yet to see Curry go through a full season. Williams has yet to prove anything. Taylor has been a castoff for a few teams already. Higgins is a rookie. Porter has been the most consistent and been with the Raiders the longest. Should Burgess play too and risk injury? Porter has great ability and he finally has a proven system that will allow him to breakout this year. The beautiful thing is that we have quality RB’s, TE’s and talent surrounding him so we don’t have to necessarily rely on him alone. We are loaded with talent and we have a Head Coach who knows how to distribute the ball properly. Porter will surprise you but you have to have faith.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:33 pm
Porter is averaging 9 yards per qtr. thru 2 pre-season game. No more rope for that Porter wearing a bra!
August 21st, 2007 at 11:36 pm
Let’s CUT Porter and give his 5 million to Russell and call it even. LOL
August 21st, 2007 at 11:36 pm
Al Davis will be gone from this Earth before Vick takes another snap in the NFL if ever.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:37 pm
Porter has proven more than JR but you’re willing to give that money to a guy who has done less. Yeah….ok.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:42 pm
Huff… while I’d like to agree with you about Vick, I guess I’m cynical. Some a-hole owner will give him another chance. I can even see the quote; “We feel that Michael has paid his debt to society and deserves another chance.”
Sad, but probably true.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:43 pm
Fellas.. I’m thinking for the good of the team. I been a Raiders fan since 1968! We’d all gotta see the light. Play the players giving the Raiders BEST CHANCE to win.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:48 pm
Vick is gonna serve time in the Pent for 2 years. Vick lost all moral sense funding dog fights IMO. Killing man’s best friend for a few dollars in bets. Sad ending IMO.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:50 pm
Raider From Birth - It’s not that a team won’t give him a chance. It’s that Roger Goodell stands in his way and he’s a tough guy. Not only is this his first true year but he has to set a standard and show that he is the Commissioner and this will be his meal ticket. Just like Bud Selig is apart of the Steroid Era in Baseball, Goodell is apart of the Dog Fighting Era. Vick will spend tie in prison and there is no timetable for how long he could spend there. Lets say its 5 years. When he gets out of prison, I guarentee Goodell will apply the suspension. What if that is 5 years? Vick would be 37 years old. He may still play in the NFL but at 37 years old? This might be an over exageration on how long it could take but you have to admit that it is very possible. He is dealing with a felony and an Angry Commissioner and an angry and very large group of dog lovers. Who wants to take on that kind of mess? Al Davis won’t be alive long enough to even take the chance if he had one.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:52 pm
You can say that people are forgiving but look at Pete Rose. Rose lied for all those years and when he gave up the truth, they denied him of the Hall of Fame. The only reason Vick pleaded guilty was because there was going to be a more harsh sentence the longer he held out. Might as well take the lesser sentence by pleading guilty. Rose hasn’t been forgiven and he was gambling. Vick murdered dogs.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:53 pm
Mike vick is the man. Al d get his contract ready 2yrs in advance yea baby!!.lol (:
August 21st, 2007 at 11:54 pm
would it be ironic f vick got another chance with the browns seeing that their mascot is an dog and everything?(:
August 21st, 2007 at 11:54 pm
Good point, Huff. I hope you’re right; I know I don’t want to see him in uniform again.
Now, if we could just find a way to get rid of Shanarat.
August 21st, 2007 at 11:55 pm
My take is Raiders gotta win another SuperBowl before we’d all pass away. I’m not gonna wait for Russell to develop and MAYBE take the Raiders to the SuperBowl the length of his K. Just win NOW with DC and vets on the roster. That’s how I see it too.
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:00 am
I just hope Al gets another one before HE passes away. He’s the one that deserves it.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:32 am
I believe the raiders will go either 9 and 7 or 10 and 6 this year. yeeea boiiiiieeee.(:
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:04 am
5 possibillities with g.warren-1.he makes the roster and helps our DT rotation 2.he makes the roster and earns a starting job 3.he is cut, serves his purpose in camp, and we owe the donks nothing 4.he is released just before the opener and resigned after the game in order to keep him, as well as our 5th rnd pick(screwing the donks) 5.trading warren for a late rnd pick just before the opener, so we keep a camp body as well as our darft pick, and get another draft pick(screwing the donks); any way, we win, nice to see sapp still(as if he ever lost it) has a sense of humor, I’M IN!
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:14 am
and best in the west, a wild card birth is very possible, and while i won’t be holding my breath, i won’t be ruling out a playoff appearance(although we won’t be winning the division), and the worst we will possibly go this season is 7-9, with 9-7 being very possible, especially if the OL continues it’s solid play, the D is half(or more, and it will probably be twice as good with a more reliable offense) of what it was last year, and ‘pepper continues his quick lurning curve, i don’t expect the offense to be ranked #3(or higher) this year, but it should rank in the top 10 yds wise, and be a better, more reliable fantasy defense(more INTs and sacks, and less pts allowed), but buttom line is your right best in the west(although i don’t believe we are truelly best in the west…yet), 7-9 wins(10 w/devine intervention) should be the total this season, I’M IN!
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:41 am
I don’t like the idea that Shannahan is willing to dump him off to us so quickly. I sense a MAD magazine spy vs. spy aspect to this. I hope I’m wrong.
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:15 am
JR believes he is worth more money than Tom Brady. JR is as country dumb as Sapp. His agents represent him and he is the boss. JR is to blame for his absence and I hope it costs him millions. His greed is probably indicative of his overall stupidity . This pick was a curse and I hope Daunte Culpepper makes it impossible for JR to take a single snap in S&B.
Michael Vick is ghetto trash and all the other ghetto trash in the NFL should take note and quit investing their millions in gold teeth and spinning rims and gambling on dog fighting. Pac-man Jones, Vick, and other scumbags of their ilk couldn’t hold a job at a carwash if they weren’t jocks. Everyone seems so shocked that these dope smoking hood-zombies could do such things. I am shocked that more of these clowns get away with it than get busted for it. I guarantee Vick won’t be the only high profile athlete to be involved in this dogfighting scandal. Many more criminals, more hardcore than Vick, have rolled over on their home boyz at the thought of doing time. Vick has lost his endorsements, his team, probably his entire career. All he really has left is his freedom and his desperation.
August 22nd, 2007 at 6:00 am
The Raiders should start talks with the falcons. They would have no problems giving JR whatever he wants. Maybe we get a 1st and 2nd from them in next years draft. If Pepper keeps playing good football, not only do we have a qb that could win games now but we wouldnt have to sweat the salary cap every year. Maybe throw in a guy like Tank Johnson to sure up our run defense for next year, I know hes off the feild issues are a concern, but he must know this would be hes last shot to make it in the NFL, and that would keep him on the straight and narrow, and if not, well stupid will win again.Remember Sapp is getting older, I hope this year the Raiders accomplish two things, running the ball ,and stopping the run.
August 22nd, 2007 at 7:45 am
I can’t believe some of you people claim to be Raider fans.
Raider Fanatic - Give up your Porter hatred and let it go! No matter what you think of him or what he did last year, he is going to be a valuable part of the passing game this year. Hoping he crashes and burns isn’t going to help the Raiders at all. Get a f*cking clue.
JustWinBaby - I think everybody is fed up with your disrespect of Warren Sapp…the man put in 100% effort on a 2-14 team an yet you keep bad mouthing him. You my friend are the loud mouthed moron, not Sapp.
And finally to all the JaMarcus haters…I understand your frustration and I want him in camp more than anyone, but once he signs (and he will) this is our QB1 of the future. Yet the haters out their are calling him fat and stupid. What are you going to do once he is wearing the Silver & Black? I understand frustration…I don’t understand the absolute hatred some of the Nation has for him. Holdouts are part of the business, get over it.
August 22nd, 2007 at 7:52 am
I believe we matched up well against the lions last yr, albeit preseason. Scored 3 td’s by half, ran well and on defense had washington on williams and morrison got an int intended for furrey.
August 22nd, 2007 at 7:57 am
jjvill - I’m with you. I’m In!
August 22nd, 2007 at 7:58 am
I think washington can handle williams and nnamdi is big enough to cover johnson. Routt and huff are both fast enough to handle furrey.
August 22nd, 2007 at 8:01 am
jjvill, very well said. thank you…..at last someone with some common sense.
August 22nd, 2007 at 8:04 am
coach, dam good breakdown
huff & tucker, no worry guys, we have the #1 pass defense in the NFL, enough said
raider fanatic, “cut porter” dude shut the f#ck up bro.
eastcoastraider likes to cut and paste information from articles to make a post like his own.
bestinthewest, please go north or something.
shinyhand / shanarat……………..too f#ckin funny!!!!
JR will sign and the talks of the falcon trades are dumb and need to stop.
ESPECIALLY the ones that involve vick coming to oakland….those are just moronic.
i still say 10-6 division champs with a playoff birth.
i can easily say 7-9, or 8-8 but im counting the come from behind victories and wins when we are the underdog.
remember…………….IN 2007 RAIDER NATION HAS THE LAST LAUGH!
August 22nd, 2007 at 8:55 am
The bottom line to the Raiders having a winning season lies with their execution. If they limit their mistakes, if Kid KIffen can turn them into a cerebral team, they will be over 500 this year and in the playoffs next year.
August 22nd, 2007 at 9:29 am
Yo…yo…. sittin’ out the preseason for my big check at Gramma’s house really sucks. This Alabama heat is killing me. I sho’ hope I gets some money quick. I need more Ho-ho’s and Moon Pies. I need to pay for that Cadillac and Mecedes I ordered too. I be chargin’ the Raiders for the interest on the money I had to borrow from my agents too. My agents will wring that old geezer Davis dry befo’ they thru wit’ em’. You chump fans can kiss my fat rear end too. I be there when I get Money and lots of it too.
August 22nd, 2007 at 9:36 am
I could care less if a bunch of you are fed up with my criticism of Warren Crapp. Just because I see his glaring faults for what they are despite the fact that he plays for the raiders doesn’t make me less of a raider fan. There are a lot of you who blindly defend anyone in a raider uniform. You are the same imbeciles who would like to see Vick on this team. Just because a person wears the uniform doesn’t mean they deserve my loyalty. I predict Sapp wont record more than 4 sacks this year.
August 22nd, 2007 at 9:37 am
Routt will not be covering CJ very often in our opener. Huff has seen significant time at
Nickel in the “wolverine” defense and he has the cover skills to lock up CJ, so I’m not really worried about Detroit.
August 22nd, 2007 at 9:53 am
Jon Kitna throws more interceptions than TDs. This defense should exploit his inaccuracy and hopefully get some points off of turnovers. Tater Bell wasn’t good enough to make the Broncos roster this year and won’t be the catalyst to make the lions any better either. If the Raiders lose this game it won’t be the starters who lose it for them.

…. but you obviously don’t
August 22nd, 2007 at 10:59 am
I don’t know if anyone in this Raiders room know’s anything about bond (not bail bonds). I work with bonds (these are to ensure payment will be made or a contract will be performed, etc).
A bonding company has bonded the contract for JRuss and Raiders. If the season were to end and JRuss still hasn’t been signed, the Raiders will be fined (called liquidated damages) $5000 a day for a month or two after the season and then the liquidated damages will increase on a monthly basis until either the contract is signed or JRuss is traded.
Thus, you can assume there’s no way JRuss will hold out past the season. This is his redshirt year and he’ll be available next season.
August 22nd, 2007 at 11:01 am
Let’s make a few things clear….
1. The Lions will dominate the Raiders in Oakland opening weekend. The Silver and Bleak will be hopelessly overmatched on both sides of the ball. TJ Duckett and Tatum Bell will slice through your soft run defense and Kitna will carve up your secondary with Johnson, Williams and Furrey as targets. Your offense will be so inept San Jose State’s defense could shut you out.
2. The Raiders will not win more than 5 games this season. I’m being generous here giving you the possibility of 5 wins. You have no passing game. You have Andrew Walter and two QBs who were cast-off by two of the worst teams in the league. Your wide receivers are underacheivers. You have no proven tight end. You have no running game. Lamont Jordan? Give me a break. lol Your first-round pick is sitting at home.
August 22nd, 2007 at 11:13 am
Anyone know who the fastest raider is? carr seems to have the fastest game speed?
Washington?
huff?
whitted?
routt?
higgins?
carr?

to Just Win Baby -
All I have heard you say about Sapp is that he is “country dumb” and a “loudmouth”. Maybe you should consider being a journalist or even working for BSPN because that is just the type of crap the mainstream media covets when it comes to the Raiders. You have not presented one fact regarding Sapp and his supposed “faults and defecencies”. Personally I agree that Sapp may have a “loud mouth” but in my eyes, and many others up on this forum, believe that he has more than earned the right to say whatever he feels. He led the league in sacks for DT’s in the NFL last year with 10, and that was on a 2-14 team. How many DT’s in this league get 10 sacks? Any other DT’s with those kind of numbers would have been a Pro Bowl starter. Sapp got snubbed because he is a Raider, just like Nmandi did. Either way your uninformed rhetoric is just that. Sapp is a solid Hall of Famer who works his a$$ off and is a great influence on the younger players on this team. For you to say otherwise just shows who is really “blind” who the real “imbecil” is. The real football fans know what I am saying.
I for one appreciated Sapp sticking up for “his 8″ and I do think that the media took that little nugget and ran with it, in any negative way that they could, to make the Raiders look bad. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that’s what these forums are about. I normally wouldn’t bash on any one poster up on here but I felt it was time for my 2 cents regarding the QB Killa. For someone that is “country dumb” he is smart enough to market himself as the “QB Killa” his entire career, which includes his own website and merchandise that is only affiliated with his name and the QB Killa nickname. Not Miami, not the Bucs, not the Raiders but QB Killa. That equals all money for Mr. Country Dumb which from here looks more like Backwoods Brilliance.

Hey Charger -
All I want to know is if you happen to be wrong regarding any of your “predictions” will you be man enough to come back on this forum and admit to how wrong you were? I highly doubt it. I know if it turned out that you were right, not likely, but if it did happen, I would be man enough to give you your props for being right. I think the key phrase here is “man enough”. Like it or not you obviously have to be a part of this forum, only for the simple fact that you post just about everyday. We may not always agree with what you say but you have every right to say what you wish no matter how wrong you may be. People like you tend to be what I like to call “hit and run posters”. You talk a bunch of smack all day everyday until it turns out that you are wrong only to never been seen or heard from again. Many of the posters up on here hope that actually happens and that you never return, which is probably what would happen. I for one hope that you have the stones to come back and take the heat. Thats what being a man is all about, so this is a real test for you young man. Good luck.

1) jjvil, South Tx Raidr…. well said!…
2) Just win baby… you are entitled to your own opinion about sapp… but I do belive Sapp has put alot of heart into this team (even though we’ve had lousy ones for the last 2 years), and still can play!
3) J, Russel (who ever you are) quit making racists jokes man… not cool IMO
Regarding the team… the first unit looked great against SF, both offense (except for the first 2 dirves) and Defense, Pepp is looking good, that roll out pass he made gave me some confidence on his knee, also that 12 yd sprint for a 1st down, cutting at full speed on his bad knee was a surprise!… L Jordan looked pumped and fast….. I still want to se Echemandu (already learned his name….aka..”joe”) run a few snaps with the first unit.
Jerry… it´s 11:30 please give me my August 22nd fix!!!

Raider Nation!!
Let the games begin!!
Week #1
donkeys can’t handle the bills away!
theifs lose to the texans on the road!
dolts lose to the bears at home!
And The Raidahs beat the lions in the friendly confines of Oakland-Alemeda County Coliseua!
And when the dust settles our beloved Raiders are all alone in first place in the AFC West. And that my friends is exactly where we intend to stay!

Fanatic, You bet Gabriel on another team would out-do Porter? How is Gabriel here? Oh, because he couldn’t cut it with Tom Brady throwing him passes.
Gabriel has never done anything in regular season play. I doubt he makes the final 53. I suspect it’ll be Porter, Curry, Williams, Higgins and (I know) Whitted. If Taylor can stop dropping the ball maybe he sneaks in but it seems pretty much set at this point.
I’d love to see the Raiders give JR’s agents permission to shop for a trade. When he sees only a few teams even remotely interested and questioning his salary demands, he’ll wake up and sign. Since he has screwed this year, why rush? Why should he get game checks as an inactive that’ll be higher than anybody who is playing? Take your time Al, week 6 is the trade deadline. Trade his rights if he isn’t in by then. Should be able to get multiple picks for him or one high pick.
Use the money to sign Burgess, Asomough and the QB who wins the starting job.
August 22nd, 2007 at 11:48 am
Clarification to the bond comment:
If the Raiders do not sign JRuss by opening day, they will be charged $5000 a day until he signs. If he isn’t signed by the end of the season the fines will double.
Anticipate a signing within the next few weeks.
August 22nd, 2007 at 11:48 am
RaiderDogg,
Point well taken. I know some of you are probably tired of reading this but I think in light of recent comments it deserves reposting. I was raised in socal and the one year that the dolts actually made it to the super bowl you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting a “”fan. And of course when they went to hell in a hand basket few would admit it.
August 22nd, 2007 at 11:52 am
Charger, I’m still not clear….
How can you on the first paragraph say we’re going to be “dominated” by the Lions and in the next paragraph say that one of our quarterbacks is a castoff from one of the worst teams in the league, which is the Lions?
So, are the Lions a dominating team or are they one of the worst teams in the league?
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:06 pm
The Bandwagon - people jump on and people jump off at the drop of a hat. I’ve seen them come and I’ve seen them go. It’s those of us that stay strong and handle the ride, good or bad, that deserve the real props. It takes a real fan to be there in the bad times, which I can honestly say most of us on here are. It is us that will taste the sweetest reward of victory after the bitter aftertaste of loss after loss. The easiest thing for the casual fan is to be there when the times are good, but only a few will know the real meaning behind the blood, sweat and tears that the true fan endures. When times are tough most fans become interested in other things and no longer have an opinion one way or the other. I may be biased but it seems that The Raider Nation is the most loyal fan base in any sport. Like they say “Win, Lose or Tie Raiders til I Die!”.

Correction to jeremy’s post. The Raiders do not HAVE TO sign Russell at all. There are no fines for not signing anybody. On the other hand the Raiders could decide to put up a number and inform the Russell camp that that number will decline weekly until he signs. If Russell does not sign this year, he will enter the draft next year as a free agent. He will lose big bucks that way because there is no way that he will be number 1 overall again. If you want to see a case history of such dealings look no furthure than Bo Jackson, that is what happened when he did not report to the team that originally drafted him. All that said and done, I still think that Russell will sign before the end of August and all will be forgotten by 3:30 pm PST on September 9th when the Raiders crush Detroit.
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Raiderdogg said: “It is us that will taste the sweetest reward of victory after the bitter aftertaste of loss after loss.”

We do things a little differently here. Some might think this is madness, but…
THIS… IS… THE BLACK HOLE!!!!!
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Detroit will get pummelled simply because they have no D and their O Line is horrible. Remember the greatest show on turf after they lost to NE in the SB with Faulk in the lineup?
Take away Faulk and replace him with K Jones and you aren’t looking at a top 10 offense. A D such as ours should be able to place lots of pressure on the O line taking away their 3-4 WR sets.
Their D is pathetic and if our O line is half improved over last year we should run all over their D thus allowing our D to rest and keep their “talented” O off the field.

If the Raiders win, you have to type a 500 word essay about the Greatness of the Oakland Raiders and tell us why you are secretly a Raiders fan. This essay will be posted here.
If the Lions win, I will write a 500 word essay on the topic of your choice and post it here as well.
I know you won’t take this bet. I’m also sure that if you did, you would never be man enough to follow through.

& the starting QB will be? …we’ll know in 4hrs

Maverick:
Due to the bond in place, the Raiders have to sign JRuss. Bonds weren’t an issue in 1986 when Bo Jackson didn’t sign with TB.
The bond was placed in good faith between three parties: The bond company, JRuss, and the Raiders guaranteeing the contract would be signed by the start of the regular season. If the contract isn’t signed, the Raiders then are in default. I realize this sounds like bogus, but the bond is a contract licensed by the state of CA thus it must be recognized as a legal paper.
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:40 pm
In addition to my bonds comments:
These “fines” aren’t set up by the NFL, these were agreed to by Oakland Raiders, JRuss, and the bonding company when the bond was put into place.
The fines are called liquidated damages. If the Raiders don’t sign JRuss by the first day of the regular season, they will be in default and have to pay $5000 a day until the contract is signed.
Personally, I hope he’s signed prior to, but if he isn’t this will give Al more reason to sign him sooner rather than later because he will be paying the bond company the liquidated damages.
August 22nd, 2007 at 12:51 pm
IF there is a bond so what? Do the math.
$5,000 x 7 = $35,000 a week
That’s less than $200,000 for the season. JR is looking at a huge signing bonus and a game check far exceeding $35,000 a week for not playing.
IF A BOND IS IN PLACE IT PUTS NO PRESSURE ON THE TEAM. It is chump-change. Get over it.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Coach on Wheels:
I’m making a point about the contract.
Check your math dumba$$:
$5000 x 7= $35,000
17 weeks in a season= $595,000
It does put a little bit of pressure on the team considering the Raiders have the lowest revenues among the NFL.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:10 pm
I’ll agree that a rookie shouldn’t be making more than an established veteran. But, the way the existing rookie contracts are set, JRuss deserves $30 mil guaranteed.
Even if he had signed a month ago, he shouldn’t even play this year. Look at Carson Palmer, Duante Culpepper, and Steve McNair for examples on why it’s good to sit a year.

WTF I edited that stuff and it still comes out like trash
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:24 pm
Jeremy…The Raiders also have the option to notify Russells’ agents that any fine will be levied against the total contract Russell signs in the end if he fails to sign by the beginning of the season
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:27 pm
Ok since I’m a dumbass let’s go with 1st grade math…Is $595,000 greater than (the alligator’s mouth >) than what JR’s weekly checks will be once he signs? Hmmm if his contract is for $6 million a year that would be over $350,000 PER WEEK. Hmmm $350,000 > $35,000. Seems to be, and I maybe wrong, but it seems that the Raiders aren’t the ones losing money.
JR is going to be doing nothing all year. The reality remains that paying him $35,000 a week, if indeed they even have to, is still chump-change compared to his contract.
By the way, if the Raiders save $1 million dollars a year playing hardball, they will save over $50,000 a week. Hmmm spend $35,000 a week for a couple weeks to save $50,000 a week over the next 6 years? Yeah. Lots of pressure there.

I AGREE WITH YOU JT. MOSS IS TEMPERAMENTAL AND IT IS IRONIC THAT HE IS GONE AND THEN CULPPER COMES IN. MOSS IS ALSO INJURY PRONE. IF IT ISN’T HIS ANKLE IT’S TOE TURF OR A PULLED HAM STRING. HE HASN’T EVEN MADE A PRESEASON APPEARAN[CE YET. INTERESTING HOW THE PEP STILL HAS HIS MO-JO (AFTER SERIOUS KNEE INJURY, TWO SUGERIES, LONG PHYSICAL THERAPY PROCESS) AND MOSS HAS YET TO PROVE HIS. SURE IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT THESE TWO GUYS COULD HAVE DONE HAD THEY HOOKED UP AGAIN. THEY WERE ONCE CONSIDERED A MONTANA-RICE LIKE DUO IN THE LEAGUE BUT THOSE DAYS ARE GONE. RAIDERS NEED A STRONG QB LEADER NOT ANOTHER MOUTHY RECIEVER. IF DAUNTE GETS THE NOD HE WILL BE SURROUNDED BY ENOUGH TALENT (NOT SHOWBOATS) FOR THIS TEAM TO NOT ONLY SUCCEED BUT, ACHIEVE. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT TIGHT END WHO MANAGED TO MAKE A VERY NICE CATCH IN THE ENDZONE BUT WAS MINUS ONE FOOT INSIDE FOR IT TO COUNT? HE HANDLED THE BALL QUITE WELL. I’M SURE THAT ONCE THE STARTING QB SITUATION IS FIGURED OUT HE WILL BE ABLE TO ESTABLISH WHO HIS DEEP THREAT WILL BE. GOOD LUCK RAIDERS! KEEP UP THE WORK.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:36 pm
Terepin - I agree that JM is out of the race.
The big X factor between AW and DC is consistency. Kiffin keeps preaching it.
Do you go with AW who has almost +10% completion percentage (including dros) but averages almost half as many yards per completion as DC?
Of course almost 1/3rd of DC’s yards came on one play and he hasn’t faced a #1 unit yet.
I would be happy with either but personally I like the steady guy with our defense more than the homerun hitter. Maybe DC can be both? We’ll see.
August 22nd, 2007 at 1:55 pm
JRuss will sign and it won’t be for any money less than the $33 mil which has been discussed. However, Al will wait JRuss out until he agrees to defer most of the bonus money into non-option bonuses.
Do I agree the payment is fair for a rookie sitting on his can to make that kind of money? Absolutely not. However with the current system in place, he deserves to “get his.”
As far as a QB, right now I’d take DC. He can make all the throws, he proved the other day he can make the necessary cuts, and now he just needs to soak in the playbook. Give Walter time to improve mentally after the beating he took last year. Let AW see the line improve. If I were AW I would have panic attacks before any game until I saw regular season improvement.
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Charger will never honor that bet. Never in a million years. Do you want to know why? Because anyone that’s so pathetic that they spend all day online talking crap to another team’s fans is the lamest, most pathetic person on earth, and what kind of honor can you expect from someone like that? Charger, just continue to show your pimply a@@ for the Raiders fans. Come the first game of the season, and the sixth, we’ll be on you like your Daddy and uncles, pumping away.
I will note that Charger earlier said we’d win no more games this year than last year. Now he’s up to five. Maybe he’s starting to see something that scares him? After all, the most pathetic team and offense “ever” went into the fizzler’s stadium and almost beat them. What do you think will happen with an offense that’s on the field regularly this year?
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:29 pm
Jeremy says….Do I agree the payment is fair for a rookie sitting on his can to make that kind of money? Absolutely not. However with the current system in place, he deserves to “get his.”
No Balls Jeremy??…..even though it’s not fair or right…..”Give him his”…… I think not….Al Davis and the Raiders should take a stand and end this….. “I want more than the guy got last year B.S.” now.
Rookies (especially underclassman) should have a cap at a fixed percentage rate above the league minimum for veterans. Maybe then more underclassman would stay in school and honor their scholarships and come to the NFL with more experience.

Great move picking up Warren for a 5th round pick. i think everyone who really watches the team understands that the run D still needed some help, especially in the division we are in. Hawthorne has been very disruptive in the first two preseson games, but as much as I like Tyler as a Raider, I am not sure DT is his postion, especially in a run-stuffing mode. With Sapp a bit lighter our beef was two deep (sands & Hawthorne), so bringing in one more DT was a good move. I kept thinking it may be Tank when his suspension ends..but this solves the problem.
Unfortunatley would not read too much into the O-lines performance vs. the 49ers…they started their 2nd unit..of course it was still a welcome sight to see. Aside from the improvement of the line the biggest factor in reducing the number of sacks/hurries will come from scheme and adjustments, something last year’s coaching staff were incredibly inept at doing.
Free of major injuries, improved O-line play and solid QB play = ?
August 22nd, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Hey Iriebuff(great name btw)
The problem with signing Tank Johnson is that his suspension will not begin until he actually signs with a team. In order for us to get him he would have to fist sit out 8 games before he could be any use to us. Maybe if we get super desperate but otherwise I don’t see that happening. I think that Warren, Warren and Company will be stellar this year with Sands having a breakout season. That man blocks out the sun!
There is no place for racism on this board. Take it elsewhere because no one on this forum is hearing it Neck.
raiders for Life…I’m In!

If “those” people are going to make that kind of money, they could at least act grateful. Afterall, I drive a truck for a living.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Jeremy C:
I totally agree with your assessment regarding rookie contracts. However, until the collective bargaining agreement is changed, there can be no change in the way rookie contracts are set up unless the players union and the owners were to come to an agreement. Al making a stand with regards to the option bonus is the only reason why the contract isn’t in place.
It has nothing to do with balls. Calvin Johnson “got his” this year as well as the other rookies. The current in system in place should allow JRuss to “get his” too.
Unless of course if you really want us to make a stand and not do anything with JRuss and allow him to go back into next year’s draft thus screwing our franchise because we wouldn’t get any replacement picks in next year’s draft??
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:35 pm
Statistically, AW has been more accurate than DC. DC has a higher average per throw. (But I wonder how much closer AW would be if it weren’t for the dropped balls in SF. Especially that one to Talyor who could’ve potentially taken in another 10+ yards if not a TD. AW would’ve clearly blown DC out of the water FURTHUR in Comp %.)
The question on which I would like to see start is two prong (assuming good blocking).
I like the Raiders, hence I like the deep ball. DC w/ a higher YPT (yards p/throw) is very appealing here.
But on the other hand I am always looking forward. AW has shown a STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT improvement. Higher comp %, qb rating etc. akin to Alex Smith in his 2nd year. I think this kid MAY get a lot better than what we can get out of DC right NOW.
So I’ll roll the dice and go with the YOUNGER Walter w/ more potential.
At the end of the day, for this season, the W-L column won’t be to different if either started IMO> Which makes me want to go w/ Walter b/c there’s a good possibility that he will be even better after his sophmore year. If he stinks we can always throw in the PEP!
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:38 pm
I’m walking over to the Raider Faciity right now with my JaMarcus Russell jersey on Gawdammit!
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:45 pm
DC had a couple drops in the first game that would have gone for another 30 yards. I don’t think we have enough data with two preseason games to decide which QB is the most accurate. I hope we find out more this week, but it looks to me like all three QBs will get equal time in all four preseason games before Kiff picks a starter.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:52 pm
Ryan…true …true…I just need something to talk about.
But that 1st game DC threw a good bit of bad passes if I remember correctly. That’s why it didn’t strike me as drops. (but I’ll have to take another look at the tapes).
If Madsen dropped DC pass in the SF game (wide-open) I would not have considered that a dropped pass b/c it was poorly thrown.
August 22nd, 2007 at 3:55 pm
Grampa always told me “a fool and his money are soon parted” LMAO a Russell jersey wise investment chump….at least we know why you want The Raiders to cave in on the negotiations…..so you don’t look like an even bigger idiot for buying that jersey.
August 22nd, 2007 at 4:06 pm
Nothing against u koolkell . I Had the chance to buy a silver RUSSEL jersey but i didnt buy it . i refuse . When he is actually wearing it himself ,THEN….. i’ll buy it . Plus i heard today on BSPN that JR wont sign because he doesnt want play 4 us. Has anyone heard this?

RaiderDogg - here are some facts for you. 2001 - 36 tackles, six sacks. 2002 - 47 tackles, 7.5 sacks. 2003 - 43 tackles, 5 sacks. 2004 - 42 tackles, 2.5 sacks. 2005 - 32 tackles, 5 sacks. Hardly hall of fame numbers. I would call these stats average when you consider what a pushover he is against the run. combine this with the questionable character of a man who attempts to start a fight with Green Bay head coach after a game and constantly runs his mouth as if anyone other than his mama really cares what he says, and I say this is pretty good evidence of how overrated he really is. He was probably overlooked for the pro-bowl last year because everyone hates his ignorant guts as much as I do rather than because he played for a 2 - 14 team that was pathetic against the run because of his inadequacy. - Nuff said.

Thank you for being Greedy. As a Raider Fan, thank you for the enlightenment. See you in next years Draft. I hope you enjoy your less than stellar contract then. RRRRRAAAAIIIIDDDDEEEEERRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
