Culpepper and Gandhi
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 at 7:13 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The inability to come out and pick a starting quarterback is apparently something everyone is going to have to live with. Think of it as an endearing quirk rather than some sort of slight.
I swear Lane Kiffin looked as if he was hiding a smirk Wednesday when he kept playing the “wait and see” game regarding Josh McCown even after he disclosed McCown had a fractured left toe.
This time, however, there were enough clues to go ahead and assume it will be Culpepper starting against Miami, and that a miraculous recovery along the lines of the one in Denver is out of the question.
Among them:
– Culpepper did what a starting quarterback does every Wednesday and spoke to the media.
“I’ll be prepared no matter what my role is,” Culpepper said. “If that’s to start the game and be ready to play, I’ll be ready.”
He would not go into detail about his differences with the Dolphins, who dumped him after one season in favor of Trent Green. Miami wouldn’t let Culpepper participate in team drills, prompting a grievance filed by the NFLPA on his behalf. The Dolphins released him the day before the grievance.
Like Culpepper probably does with his children who come to him for answers, he told reporters if they wanted to know how he felt at the time, they could look it up.
For the record, this is what Culpepper said to reporters by e-mail back on July 18 when he was released:
“As I was going through this process I heard a quote by Gandhi that best expresses my thoughts about this victory: “First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win. Now that I have my freedom and I get to choose my next team, I am just like many other people who have to go out and find employment so I can take care of family.’’
Gandhi . . . Culpepper not only throws deep, he is deep.
– McCown talked bravely about seeing how tolerable the pain is before ruling himself out, but conceded doctors considered it a “two week” injury while he thought it was more “day to day.”
– Andrew Walter, who might have been on his way to a new team via trade if McCown hadn’t been injured, said he was currently No. 2.
“I’m going into this week as the backup, so you’re one play away,” Walter said. “You just try to be a pro and everything will work itself out.”
More news and notes:
– They always mean well, but athletes will usually tell you what they hope to be true rather than what is true regarding injuries. On Monday, Isaiah Ekejiuba said he thought he might be able to face Miami and Robert Thomas said he would certainly be practicing Wednesday.
Ekejiuba has already been ruled “out” and Thomas did not practice with a hamstring pull.
Also not practicing were DE Derrick Burgess (calf), McCown and FB Oren O’Neal.
LG Robert Gallery and C Jeremy Newberry were said to have participated in a “limited fashion.” During the reporters’ window, Gallery was watching teammates run through drills and not wearing a helmet and Newberry had just trotted off the field and into the locker room.
An educated guess _ Burgess, Gallery and Newberry are all back after the bye week.
– Running back LaMont Jordan was spotted during the media window attempting to stretch out his back after carrying 29 times against Cleveland. As much as Jordan wants to carry the load like LaDainian Tomlinson and Larry Johnson have the last two years, Dominic Rhodes will be a welcome addition following the bye.
– Miami has been lining up defensive end Jason Taylor on the left side, but you’ve got to think defensive coordinator Dom Capers, after digging up film of Taylor torturing Sims for three sacks in Miami in 2002 will find a way to make it happen.
Of course, Taylor against Cornell Green doesn’t inspire confidence either.
Sims was beaten on McCown’s first pass by second-year outside linebacker Kameron Wimbley, with McCown fumbling the ball and the Raiders recovering. Things got much better.
“I’m sure people watching the game were real nervous about that matchup because he had to go against Wimbley the whole day,” Kiffin said. “He gets beat on the first play and after that you don’t hear much from Wimbley. The one play he hit Daunte and caused an incompletion was (LaMont Jordan’s) responsibility, not Barry’s.”
– The Raiders, averaging 159.3 yards per game, have not averaged 150 yards per game over a 16-game season since leading the NFL in rushing at 154.4 yards per game in 2000. Since that season, 14 teams have averaged 150-plus. Eleven of them had winning seasons, one was .500 and two had losing seasons.
That’s why Tom Cable, profiled in a Web exclusive column which posted Wednesday night, is the second-most important addition to the Raiders organization this season behind Kiffin.
– When the Raiders were seeking a replacement for Norv Turner, the name of Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron came up as a possible replacement. I even reported Cameron’s name as being asked to interview. A Raiders official no longer with the team called and requested a retraction, insisting the interview had never been requested.
I felt good enough about the the source that I didn’t check with a Raiders official for confirmation. I agreed this was a mistake and ran a “retraction” saying that a Raiders official said Cameron was never offered an interview.
During a conference call with Bay Area reporters Wednesday, Cameron talked about how he had been invited to watch Raiders practices in Oxnard and when asked about the Raiders interest in him in 2005, said he was “flattered.”
It’s part of the beauty of the coaching search _ everyone has their own agendas and you never know exactly what the truth is. With any luck, there won’t be one in Oakland for at least a few years.

This Sunday the league will offically be put on notice about two things:
Both Culpepper and the Raiders ARE BACK!!!!!!
September 26th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Culpepper not only throws deep, he is deep. He also sounds pretty centered. Revenge is a dish best served cold!
Thanks Jerry!
Raiders for Life…I’m In!
September 26th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Wow Jerry, bringing the humor with the news. How deep is Russell in his playbook? Also, any more explanation from Ryan about the defensive calls towards the end of the game? I was getting Chuck Bresnahan flashbacks for a second. And you can see how he’s doing with the D in Cincy…
Long live the Nation! (trembling in fear of Jason Taylor)
September 26th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Culpeppers stats this Sunday:
305 Yards Passing, 45 Yards Rushing, 3 Passing TD’s, 1 INT, I Rushing TD, 1 Fumble
Final Score: Raiders 38 Dolphins 10
BOOKMARK IT BABY!!!
September 26th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
this is great news…I hope C pep doesnt lay an egg on sunday…dolphins will come out tough…..you can bet on that…Porter just guaranteed a fins victory
September 26th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
Ghandi, did you exhale yet?? 38 pts on the road, against a great pass rush, and solid LBV core. Kiff is in love with his run game, and will use it a ton to keep pressure off of his new QB. My guess, and im not impared: 258 yds passing, 29 yds rushing, 2 passing tds, 1 int, 1 fumble, recovered by the Raiders.
Final score: Raiders 24 Dolphins 20 :))
September 26th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Porter runs his mouth too much. He has lost all my respect ever since him and his “homies” rat packed the tackle from Cincinnati at the Palms in Las Vegas.
Jason Taylor is a still a force to be reckoned with. I have been fretting about him ever since I saw Miami on the schedule. He is the best pass rusher in the league bar none.
I love that San Diego jettisoned Marty and lost Wade phillips: Shawn Merriman does not look like the same player he was last year.
Walter still being on the Roster is an indicator that the Raiders do not have a lot of faith in DC, Jamarcus or McCown at this time.
The lack of stability at QB will ultimately hurt the 07 Raiders. Just win 8 games this year, and I will be the happiest Raider fan in the nation.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
We are one game out of this division. The Broncos are going down this Sunday. We can and will win the AFC West as long as Daunte Culpepper and Lamont Jordan stay healthy!
September 26th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
Lamont is the key to the game. He is the MVP of the first three games. The Raiders road back to respectability goes as far as he can take them. He is running so well, that you did not even notice that we had a QB change on Sunday. If he runs for another 100 on Sunday, the Raiders will win even if Walter is under center.
September 26th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
You need to check out SUN-SENTINEL.COM — Joey Porter “guarantees a victory against
the raiders.” He’s talking smack and I just pray that the silver and black show up on
Sunday and get the job done! I’ll be there in Miami to represent the RAIDER NATION!
September 26th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
The division is definitely up for grabs this year. I took a good look at the Schedules of the AFC west teams, and I honestly believe that 9 wins will lock up the AFC west this year. I think the Raiders will be able to compete this year, but they have to learn to play a full 60 minutes to win any game in the NFL. On top of that, December is incredibly tough. San Diego is the weakest team we will play in December with the Colts, at home and trips to Jacksonville, and Green Bay on the schedule. Those 4 games will be the difference between 6 to 9 wins.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
If the Defense shows up this game I don’t think it will be a close one. But if they allow Trent to throw all day then it will be close but we will still win (I think).
September 26th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
I still think McCown is at best just a quality backup but his toughness has earned my respect, regardless of his quarterback skills, which although are sub par for NFL starting QB standards are still better than 99% of the world’s, so although i’m excited about Culpepper starting this week, against a team which he has a grudge and with a chance to tie for 1st in the AFC West(wow, it’s amazing that i’m saying that), but nonetheless, McCown has my respect, even if he doesn’t have my vote, I’M IN!
September 26th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
“Trent Green is one hit away from having scrambled eggs for brains” based loosely off a quote from Jason Taylor shortly after Miami traded fro him.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Joey Porter is a weenie. I know several people that went to high school with him at Foothill (Bakersfield, CA), and all of them said Porter was a coward who always needed a pack of buddies to back him up in conflicts.
He is over the hill, at early age. His 3 tackles a game are hardly worth the $20 million dollars(guaranteed) he got paid this off season to sign with the Fish.
I hope he keeps running his mouth so Lamont, Griffith, and Fargas stuff his foot in it.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
With the right hit everyone is “one hit away from having scrambled eggs for brains” but i’ll guarrantee that green will sustain more than one hit this week, especially if DBurg can go, even in a limited role, sapp and kelly have played great, richardson has played well for a rookie and once we get DBurg back, the D will be more effective, not that they’ve been that bad thus far, huff, fabe and sands have underachieved the first few games, mostly do to the lack of a consistent pass rush, making it all the more important to get Burgess back, and if he’s ready for Sunday, then it’s safe to say he’ll be having eggs for breakfast, I’M IN!
September 26th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Just read Dr. Z’s weekly Power Rankings on cnnsi.com. This is what he had to say for the Raiders part. Good to see Morrison is getting national pub –
“This is my week for singing about the unsung. Kirk Morrison, middle linebacker. Best I’ve seen this season, along with my perennial favorite, Zach Thomas.”

Blowout is inevitable.
Raiders 10-6 playoffs.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Wow, CPep is really licking his chops right now! Miami basically told him that he was DONE and their replacement was Trent Green (who suffered one of the nastiest concussions caught on tape). That is messing with a man’s pride, and if Kiffin dosen’t start him it would be a crime.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Real football power rankings:
http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/19632.html
24. Oakland Raiders (LW: 26; 1-2) - Just three real weeks into the Lane Kiffin era, the hapless Raiders of a year ago are no more. The team has so far scored 67 points. Compare that to the 27 points Oakland had through three games in 2006, and it’s safe to say you’re seeing a club on the rise.

If I recall the Raiders led the league in rushing back in 2000. Tyrone Wheatley was our leading rusher that year.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
From JMac’s article…
“Under Cable, the Raiders have added two new starters on the right (guard Cooper Carlisle, tackle Cornell Green) and reshuffled the left, moving Barry Sims from guard to tackle and Robert Gallery from tackle to guard.
Center Jeremy Newberry seized the job at starting center, with Jake Grove re-assuming the spot when Newberry pulled a hamstring.
The results through three games have been stunning. Oakland is third in rushing at 159.9 yards per game after finishing 32nd in 2005 and 29th in 2006. LaMont Jordan is the NFL’s second-leading rusher with 350 yards.
The chuck-and-duck passing game and its 72 sacks has been replaced by one which is on pace to give up 27.”

I know it’s not necessarily on topic for the blog, but THANK YOU JERRY for recognizing the #1 reason why the Raiders are playing better this year on offense. All the “McCown vs. Culpepper” arguing, then the handwringing over why the defense has been giving up big plays in every game this year so far–these topics have overshadowed the MOST IMPROVED UNIT FROM LAST YEAR.
Keep writing more on the O-line, Jerry. I especially would like to read more about Cable’s opinions and thoughts on improving our line.
September 26th, 2007 at 9:59 pm
daunte culpepper looks great in raider black. a pro-bowl pro i am happy is here this year.
curry and culpepper i hope do some damage this weekend to last place miami. one thing to remember is one blind sided hit on his bad leg takes daunte down for the season.
josh mccown is a tough and scrappy qb that plays hard, he competes, he can make yardage with his arm and his legs, great roll out passing. so he, like every other qb in the game, can make a mistake. or get off a horrible looking pass, (that usually works by the way). the kid is a good team addition, and hope he stays if daunte leaves next year. (jimmy plunkett threw some ugly passes but he could win).
andrew walter stood in with a bad scheme, and an unwinnable game plan. thank you for that andrew. he could be a terrific pocket passer with protection. with some meat on his bones, some self-defense (judo or karate) training to learn how to avoid easy sacks, he could be a much better player. i hope whatever happens, its good for walter as well as for the raiders.
really feel the dark clouds have left the raider sidelines as far as coaching goes. the game planning is breathtaking compared to… well since mr. gruden left the building. coach kiffin all ready has made us contenders three games into his tenure. three games! with the league skill level dropping off with backup qb’s, and us talent rich comparitively speaking, our future can really start to shine. thanks mr. davis for current coaching selection, and your rookie qb selection. i will try to round up some bucks and get my season ticket for next year.
our future is so bright, i’ll have to wear shades (black and silver of course)
i am in…

If anyone’s interested, HBO’s Inside the NFL had a nice little segment on Kirk Morrison and his adad growing up as Raiders fans and how Kirk’s now starring for them. His dad passed up luxury box accomodations and still sits in the same nosebleed seats where he always sat.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
DesertRaider24, I don’t think the O-Line is overshadowed, we just didn’t want to jinx it.
September 26th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
OK, did all of Joshie McBoots fans go to bed???
Now don’t fear for CPeps knees or well being….this cat will not have to hide a deficient arm and lack of confidence by running around like a stuck pig.
Defense needs to bring it, Offense will pound it. When CPep shows play action….YAHTZEE!!!
WE WILL WIN THE BALLGAME!
It’s on like Donkey Kong….and as far as McBoot’s personal opinion about being day 2 day…Son it’s right back to being year to year for U! Buh Bye
JaMarcus with the headseat on, watch your boy run the show. Now do what he does next year, but better!
Oh and BTW to console the McBoot fans….this is mercy time, that boy was gonna be killed before too long. Helter Skelter runnin’ around…..injuries waiting to happen. Well now he can WRITE the playbook for next year….LOL
September 26th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
JUST WIN WITH DAUNTE BABY!!!!
September 26th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
I can’t wait for the Raiders to smoke the Fish this weekend like Ricky Williams smokes bowls!
September 26th, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Yup. we led the league in rushing in 2000. It all started in that game in Kansas City, Wheatly’s running. Remember that one play where he out hit two-thirds of the Chiefs’ defense? And then two years later we lead the league in total and passing offense. And for the last four years have played the Superbowl, each year like a quarter of that game. By rights, the effects of that loss, the Tuck, the last four seasons, the darkest hours of our franchise, are over. The Patriots are at the top of their run as a franchise. Lead the league in offense and defense. They’re the best team. Blah, blah, blahbitty-blah, blah-blah. We don’t play them in the regular season. With our division exhibiting many challenges (a good thing) we have a shot of doing something that was unthought until our running game started knocking heads. Now, with a very too distant kind of looking, we are in competition with the division. Denver is not please to have to play us again, as well as Mike is challenged at Lane’s displayed learning curve. We are tied with San Diego and Kansas City, whom we play following the bye. Denver will loose perhaps a couple by the Chiefs-Raiders game closes. We play football over our next three games we sit atop our division. First things first. Miami. My wife’s lunch gave me the thought of what to eat on gameday: Mahi-Mahi (dolphin fist) sandwich. I’m thinking about frying the dolphin fish with chips and heavy doses of salt and vinegar. I don’t know much about the current Miami offensive line, but I have a feeling the defense is about to have a big game, one of those chest pounders, and finally get some consistent pressure on the offense, in both phases of run and pass. What makes it over the top? The linebackers. Let’s give the Chargers something to think about. Culpepper is playing and the deeper patterns will open up, particularly in the manner that Kiffin opens the playbook. It’s time to show a little more before going into the bye, and then lets throw some curves at our other division opponents and see where things fall then. For now? We need to finish the first quarter of the season 2-2. It’s time to eat dolphin.
Raider on,
Guamanian Raider
September 26th, 2007 at 11:11 pm
I have been setting on Culpepper in my fantasy league. I hope he takes the job with a strong performance against the Fins.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:22 pm
Good time for a bye. Things should improve after it, but still a big work in progress. I like the growth over three games, but the schedule gets really hard from here on in after the bye. If Lamont can get through the Miami game, the troops are coming, the troops are coming. And the running game is going to make this season. How far, I don’t know. Let’s see. Like I said, this year is a shakedown cruise.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
throw in higgins with culpepper. i wanna see what he can do.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
daunte has the goods to deliver, and the best possible example of confidence and experience to pass along to jamarcus, so stay healthy daunte. lets hope the fish are stinking this weekend… after getting fried by daunte and co. that is…
September 26th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
would you guys say Michael bush is comparable to bettis?
September 27th, 2007 at 1:01 am
As its a cold, quiet morning in Scotland. Herewith Raiders 2008 Mock Draft (ha ha)
1) Sam Baker, OT, USC
2) Limas Sweed, WR, Texas
4) Darrell Robertson, DE, Georgia Tech
5) Jamal Lewis, S, Georgia Tech
6) Todd Boekman, QB, Ohio
7) Mike Klinkenburg, ILB, Iowa
umm….we need more picks. Trade Walter. Trade Carr. Trade Schweigert?
September 27th, 2007 at 5:57 am
The Raiders Mock Draft for ‘08? Are you serious? Give it a rest until after the season, see where we stand to pick, and possibly trade up.
(BTW, I’d like to see us pick Jake Long, LT, Michigan).
September 27th, 2007 at 6:04 am
I can not wait for this weekend. If Lamont can open up the running game then DC Can throw Bombs all day to JP and Curry. JP needs to finally explode and I think this is the game he can do it. Lets hope we don’t have to depend on Seabass kicking field goals We need TD’s plan and simple. Those four field goals from last week need to be 4 TD’s this week. They need to show the league that the silver and black are a force not to be overlooked anymore. I’M IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 27th, 2007 at 6:09 am
Sorry Nate. It was only +2 degrees in Edinburgh this morning, damp and very autumnal. Thoughts just turned to spring…….
Jake Long is a monster. My worries would be that he seems more of an RT than a LT, and that he might suit a power scheme and not our cable-style one.
I’ll shut up about Mock Drafts until January.
September 27th, 2007 at 6:16 am
Say Scottish,
We need a DT or DE that can make an immediate impact next year so we may need to take Dorsey out of LSU if he is still available. We also need a impact Safety so we need to move Huff to FS and draft the best SS available. I’ll check out Robertson and hope he is’nt a Q. Moses. I’m sure we will have additional picks by 08.
September 27th, 2007 at 6:21 am
Thanks for the Inside the NFL tip Chris…I’ll watch that for sure.
Things I worry about against Miami;
- Taylor and Porter coming off the edge against Sims & Taylor
- Ronnie Brown having a game like he did against the Jets
- Trent Green…I don’t think he is that good, but he usually beats the Raiders
- Chambers & Booker’s size on the outside
- heat and humidity in Miami, plus early game (10am PST) and cross country trip
I believe the Raiders can win, but I think it is going to be a real struggle. They can’t make the same mistakes that they did against Clev and expect to leave Miami with a win. No fumbles, no returns for TDs, score 7 in the redzone and not 3. No way the Raiders blow them out because they just ain’t there yet. Control the line of scrimmage with the run and slow the pass rush. Then maybe CPep can make a few plays. Huge game to finally prove the Raiders will be in REAL contention all year.
September 27th, 2007 at 6:40 am
Scottish Raider….
Talk Mock Drafts all you want =)
I think we’ll draft 3 o-linemen =)
September 27th, 2007 at 6:50 am
Rodmoney, Darrell Robertson is certainly big enough: 6′5″, 245lbs (and will get bigger). He usually plays weakside and can certainly rush and tackle. He posted 1.5 QB sacks against Notre Dame. He had a sack, 2.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble against Boston College and ranks fourth nationally in TFLs with 6.5. Robertson isn’t flash but he has the necessary physical potential and, most importantly, he might be available in the 3rd or 4th. I think he is real prospect.
September 27th, 2007 at 6:54 am
hey k-rock i feel ya bro, i have him starting in mine as well.
manser21, ive been thinking the same thing, with higgins size and speed, thats something to look forward to.
DC knows he has to be patient and make smart throws. he is a leader, he will lead us back to victory and WE WILL RISE AGAIN!
10-6/9-7….
division champs…
playoff spot…
September 27th, 2007 at 7:00 am
Joey Porter is a dirtbag. Don’t be surprised to see him go for Culpepper’s knee.
September 27th, 2007 at 7:01 am
isnt it supposed to be raining on gameday in miami?
September 27th, 2007 at 7:10 am
Can someone tell me why Mcturnover is getting treated like Elway or Favre. If one of those guys are hurt and say, ” I am hurt but if I can go I will.”, it makes sense. They are better at 70% than anyone else who could take their spot. I love Kiff and he has made unimaginable strides already with this team but he keeps saying, “we will see where Josh is at and make our decision.” Kiff and Josh both act like it is important that he plays, like he is a superstar QB. Yet the better QB should have started right from the first game even when Mcturnover was healthy. I think in 2 years Kiff has us competing with the best in the conference for an AFC title but lets stop this stupid game, give Culpepper the starting snaps in practice every week and see where he can take us this year. The team, fans, and opponents will react different to Culpepper. He has that ability to lead teammates, make a coach look good even on a broken play, and make defenses back off because of his arm. Lets get this thing going. We already gave away 2 games just to prove Mcturnover is a backup, we cannot dig ourselves any more of a hole. Lets get rolling Culpepper.
September 27th, 2007 at 7:23 am
Let’s go Daunte - get us to .500 and match our win total from last year!
September 27th, 2007 at 7:30 am
I think Walter as #2 is strictly because McNown can’t play. So just in case Dante is hurt ,
they need him.
the running game and offensive line is exciting. thanks for that 150 yard avg breakdown, that
is encouraging
I would also like to see higgens going deep with Dante
Curry seems to be the real deal
Jerry Porter seems to be trying real hard, so I am hoping he can break through. One thing I
have noticed with him is that he turns for the pass very early , and that cb read that and break
up his plays.
The Mike Williams thing is weird. He had such an aweful game, but I was actually viewing it as
a positive developement. He is getting open. Hopefully he can start holding on.
I would like to see a big improvement on special teams. Miami has also been having problems
with special teams and I don’t want Ginn breaking out against the raiders.
As far the defense goes .. 2 things
1) It seemed to me that they did got better last year as the season progressed. I am hoping
they do the same thing
2) Last year , the raiders time of possesion was horrible and the defense was on the field a lot
My initial thought was that with the raiders actually controlling the clock via the running attack,
the defense would not be tired.
miami dolphins
I am a little worried playing jason taylor a week after he said “I suck”
But .. overall the dolphins defense seems to be not playing well. Zach Thomas is hurt and he
seems to be the QB of the defense.
Ronnie Brown is looking good, one thing in our favor is he seems to play extra well against
the jets
my biggest wish for this game is that the raiders pass rush show up with about 8 big sacks
September 27th, 2007 at 7:34 am
I think Kiffen learned more in Denver than how to ice a kicker. Duante will start!
September 27th, 2007 at 7:36 am
JUST WIN BABY: Joey is the biggest dirtbag and scumbag of life….. Were going to make him think about what he said.
Adam “The Weasel” Shefter was on sports radio today in the morning and pissed me off when he said that Joey is correct in what he said that the fish were going to get there first win against the Raiders…….. I hate him just as much as Porter!
I’m fired up!
SouthTexasRaider: It will be a 30% chance of rain, If it doesnt rain the Raiders win 27-17
I’M IN!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 27th, 2007 at 7:48 am
thanks for that update bro.
has it been raining, will the field be wet…..or is it covered o’what?
hey jim, we might get those sacks, especially if burgess plays….remember, his sacks come in bunches.
September 27th, 2007 at 7:49 am
If we can continually isolate our TEs on either Miami safety then it will be a great passing day , neither of the starting safeties weigh over 200 lbs.
September 27th, 2007 at 7:56 am
jim - Good point on why you believe JP is having problems. I haven’t noticed. I don’t think JM really looked his way though. JP made a great grab when Pep was in there on a critical 3rd down. I’m sure you remember.
I also see the same as you re MW. I’m seeing very positive developements from him. He’s getting open and seems to have gotten quicker. Now if doesn’t hold onto or catch the ball he’s useless. He can improve in other aspects all he wants but he has to catch the ball. (On that fumble, granted it was the most in-opportune time; but now that we’ve won, if you go back and look at it, he ran a good route finding the soft spot in the D, juked his player a bit and tried to pick up the extra yds - thats a positive).
I see the D coming around. They started out slow last year too. I don’t think last year was a total fluke either. Teams may have ran a lot on us but they tried to pass too. And when they did we often got the INT or qb pressure. **Nhamdi is on a HIGHER LEVEL vs our other dbs and most dbs in teh league. Really watch him play and you’ll notice that when a ball is thrown in his direction, Nhamdi doesn’t try to knock them down - he tries to catch them. Thats different and thats special - almost like his brain has been rewired. Most dbs natural instinct is to disrupt the pass by swatting at the ball but Nhamdi just tries to catch it almost everytime. He’ll definitely get his INTs if they keep throwing his way.
September 27th, 2007 at 7:59 am
The key to Sunday’s game is the o-line. Although they have improved greatly from last years mess, one must keep in mind that the three teams we’ve played thus far aren’t exactly noted for their ability to stop the run. Miami’s “D” will be the hogs first real test. We’ll have to run well early or Taylor, Porter, and co. will make life hell for our QB. As an earlier poster said; Simms and Green vs. Porter and Taylor is a scary proposition. Establishing the run early can keep them off-balance and limit their effectiveness against the pass. Is Zack Thomas playing? His absence can only help our running game. Here’s hoping for 2-2 going into the bye.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:03 am
re Nhamdi: He’s always trying to catch the ball b/c 9 times out of 10 he’s IN POSITION to make a play on the ball, which is key. Other dbs may not be in position so they just try their best to disrupt. But Nhamdi seems to be in position most of the time.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:07 am
I think the Fish will have to attack on D. They cannot afford to let DC settle - otherwise its Curry and chips all night. Miller and Griffiths are going to be crucial in protecting DC. If our line holds the rus, then DC will have time, space and enough 1-on-1s to make the fish into dinner. Dolphin bouillabaisse very tasty.
I hadn’t realised that Trent Green is 37. He’s seven years older than DC and five years older than Kiff - what was CamCam thinking when he cut DC?
Mind you, isn’t Florida where all you Yanks retire?
September 27th, 2007 at 8:16 am
Thanks for the info Jerry….. As I watched the Browns game, with McCown, I could see certain plays that would had been perfect call for J. Russell, even C-pep, which made me realize, that maybe Kiffin wanted McCown out there, to develope the rest of the team with them plays called.. this way, when C-pep, or manily Russell starts, the line, WR and RBs, will already know what to do, and Russel can laed tham, rather, then try to teach tham all together, like last years mess??
Just an obsevation, once we get a QB in that matches our game plan, and a few adjustments on ST and D, we could be running for the West come week 17, but we will be one to rekon with come 2008-2009
September 27th, 2007 at 8:18 am
So Walter gets a good bye handshake from Kiffin, then suddenly is one hit on DC’s gimpy knee away from leading the team. How dull it must be to be a Bills or Jets fan compared to rooting for the Silver and Black Circus.
Irregardless if Walter stays a Raider or leaves, we need to recognize that he played his heart out last year even though he was dropped into a meat grinder. AW took the punishment without much complaint and quietly had knee surgery after the season. Behind improved line play, McCown lasted 3 games and was too broken to go on. DC is not exactly the DC of old and was an easy target for blitzing defenses during his brief stay in Miami. Expect to see AW back on the field as stoic as ever.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:24 am
hey, is Gallery starting? If not who fills his spot ?
September 27th, 2007 at 8:30 am
Ron…
I liked AW a lot, we asked him to step out in front of the bus, he did but somehow a lot of us forgot that.
I think he reads plays well, and if we trade him I wish him the best, I think he could be a franchise QB, a regular in off seasons, if he was with the right team. Pats, Jets, bengals and now that Leinart has been exposed, Walter could set the sky on fire in Arizona again
September 27th, 2007 at 8:30 am
they are going to roast Cam if Daunte has a good game even if they win the game because Daunte is the younger better QB. I don’t think tere are too many teams that can slow the raidess running game, it’s just too strong. And with Daunte pulling the trigger you ain’t gonna put 8 in the box, that’s suicide.
That’s why I preached all offseason that was the key to returning to respectability along with the defense. It makes the QB’s job so much easier. If Daunte can stick a couple of key throws, this team can make it hard on a lot of opponents to beat them. Look at the Packers good defense and running game and they’ve been playing with a lead so far this season with that old vet at QB.
As long as we run the ball well, play defense and protect the football ( no t/o’s ) we’ll have a 75 % chance to win against anybody. I don’t care if you have Manning at QB if you can’t run in this league it’s very hard to win.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:32 am
LV, Gallery is doubtful. Chris Morris will likely start at LG. McQuistan will cover.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:38 am
MIAMI’s defense is horrible this year!! If the Raiders concentrate running the ball!! We’ll win!! If we have to depend on C-pep! Were in trouble!! But he is our best QB right Now!! Give the Ball to Jordan all day SUNDAY!! Its our best chance!! By the way the forecast for sundays game is showers!!
September 27th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Why are some of you all discussing the draft? Let’s enjoy the season because you can see the Raiders are going to be something special. JM is a tough competitor but like I have said before. He hurts the team by trying to play hurt. DC brings confidence and experience to the team. When he stepped on the field Sunday you could see his leadership. I give JM credit but he just doesn’t have that quick decision making and cannot read a defence like DC. As for the D it at times has been put into bad field postion. Need to bring a blitz once in awhile the Fin’s rceivers are big but aren’t very good. But Green can hurt us if he is not pressured.
Win, lose or tie Silver and Black till I die.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:45 am
It will be nice to see DC get the start and the win. But hold on to your hats after the bye week! My guess is if JM is some what healthy he will play. I have come to the conclusion that Kiff is looking into the future and wants JM as his starter next year if JR isn’t totally ready to be an NFL starter. And the best way to do that is play him all year. They will resign JM and DC will be down the road after this season.
Tear it apart all you want. But that’s the only thing I can think of to explain Kiffs love affair with JM.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:52 am
I think Gallery will start. If I’m not mistaken he had the same injury during the Browns game and game back in. If so, he’ll start.
It just occurred to me. Last year we all would’ve been grateful if we heard Gallery would not play. Fastfoward to now and I’m thinking to myself we may actually NEED Gallery to play in order to be successful. At least to keep the running game going. Unbelievable!! What a difference 1 year and 1 coach makes!! Tom Cable must get some kinda award this year. I don’t care if we have to make something up.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:52 am
Four words for Sunday. “Whatch the screen pass!”
September 27th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Anyone remember the last time the Raiders beat Miami in the regular season? We shut them down in the playoffs (27-0 fin fans) but all I can remember are the losses right now.
2005 - one of Ricky Williams last good games, Fins win in Oakland
2002 - Taylor dominates and Raiders lose in Miami for last time before Super Bowl
2001 - Fiedler jukes out Trace Armstrong for last second TD run
2000 - Playoff domination…27-0 all started with TJames pick for TD
1999 - Loss in Oakland, one of Gannon’s worst games as a Raider
1998 - Late season thrashing in Miami, Hollas shows his true colors
Can’t remember too much before that, or I blocked it out of my mind, but I do know Marino got us a few times. Oh well time to start a new win streak against those damn fins. CPep’s revenge with the o-line and Jordan leading the way.
I’m In
September 27th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Hello
September 27th, 2007 at 8:56 am
Scottish Raider - I like your first pick in the draft scenario but followup with a right tackle or center in the second round. Good move keeping four QBs at least until the line has more time to jell. DC get rid of the ball quick, spread the ball around when you can and keep Griffth focused on Taylor. Run Echamandu when LJ needs a break. If Ryan blitzes more on defense this Sunday we win going away, if not, probably another nail biter. 2-2 for sure.
September 27th, 2007 at 8:58 am
Hi mod, Hyperlinks no longer allowed?
September 27th, 2007 at 9:07 am
JJvill… I remember thee all too well…
2005 - one of Ricky Williams last good games, Fins win in Oakland
2002 - Taylor dominates and Raiders lose in Miami for last time before Super Bowl
2001 - Fiedler jukes out Trace Armstrong for last second TD run
2000 - Playoff domination…27-0 all started with TJames pick for TD
————————————————————————————————
If it is hot, look for Us to be in black unis.. Miami always makes us wear black if we paly them early in the season… just like the browns game, this will not be as easy as some would make it appear.
take away the C-peep, revenge thing, we win 20-19, we win.. period, that is what will matter come week 10-17, and the fact we go 2-2, nothing else will matter, even if C-pep has a blow-out game, I am sure not too much media will aknowlegde it,… well maybe they will, but just get the win, and move on into the bye..
Gallery was taken out last week and replaced by #51 morris..(51 on O-line looked weird) and i suspect morris is getting a majority of snaps so i am sure he will play??
if we CAN win, without Burgess, Gallery, and newberry, then we could look good if these guys are healthy coming out of the bye!
September 27th, 2007 at 9:12 am
Trips to Miami in September are NEVER fun. The Dolphins are hungry and embarrassed at 0-3. Jason Taylor is pissed, and has owned Barry Sims his whole career. Cam Cameron certainly should be familiar with gameplanning the Raiders. Culpepper’s revenge factor can go both ways, good or bad.
This game has warning: hazard written all over it.
I think the Raiders will play tough, and this will be an ugly game to watch. It’s winnable, but the intangibles aren’t in our favor. What is in our favor is the fact that Miami’s o-line sucks, but with Burgess out, the odds are evened up a little. I’ll be very impressed if Oakland wins, however they do it. Make no mistake, I expect them to win, but this will be a tight game.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:15 am
Yeah i would love to see Eche, I hope they keep him when Rhodes is ready…
I have to admit Fargas done a good job. But since everybody is allowed to rave about how good Culpepper did in the Preseason, I guess i’m allowed to mention how good Eche did in the preseason. I think the D-line would turn in to old men if Eche and Lamont kept pouncing the middle..
September 27th, 2007 at 9:19 am
The media would love nothing more than for one of their old school highlight reel guys to make a good comeback showing. It would bring more attention to the Raiders than anything else. ESPN used to love Daunte.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:28 am
Dolphins run defense is ranked 29th in the league. They have a lot of problems on Defense. We still are a 4 point underdog. Vegas is setting folks up for the big trip down. raiders win this one easy hope its on the tube.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:31 am
Eche is playing in a contract year also so he is showing extra hustle , with young Michael Bush on the roster I doubt Joe will be with us next year.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:32 am
I like the idea that they are flying in under the radar. The media did not do their homework on the raiders, they took last year as being a verbatim template for this year. Big mistake. 2-2 at the break.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:37 am
Good call on the black uni’s Jimi18, Raiders will have those on for sure. Actually if it rains and is overcast maybe that will work in the Raiders favor because the heat might not be as bad then. One loss I forgot…in 1994 when Shell and Hoss had their big showdown on the sidelines. Ugly times.
Is Burgess out for sure? Haven’t seen the injury report yet.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:40 am
Scottish Raider while I like the 2008 mock draft esp. Sam Baker at LT we need to go safety a litttle higher and we need a center. I don’t think WR is a need but a super talent at any position is never a bad move.
I haven’t had a chance to study any more film but, here some preliminary observations; I think Sands and Warren shoul be in our base 4/3 and Sapp in the nickel package. It gaives us a muc h stouter base and allows Sapp to be fresh on pass plays. they could move Kelly to DT in the nickel along with Sapp. Or rotate with Warren who has shown some pass rush abilty. I really like the 3/4 front they have. They are presently using Sam Williams as the primary blitz backer, it hasn’t had the success I would have thought it would but I do like it.
I would like to see them use Huff a little more from different angles it might help. But teams are really getting rid of the ball quickly so a lot of what we’ve been doing in our blitz package has not produced desired results. We just need to keep chopping wood eventually the tree will drop.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:49 am
Schweigert has a redeeming game this Sunday!
September 27th, 2007 at 9:53 am
La Milicia Negra, yeah I agree on Eche, would like to see them keep him around esp. as LJ is already having back difficulty again. If LJ goes out we’d still have Eche along with Fargas behind Dominic.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:56 am
Schweigert better!!! I’ve been sticking up for him based on his improved play in ‘06, but sunuvab!+ch, he’s been SUCKING bad!!! You can guarantee that Cameron saw all his screw ups in the Cleveland game on film and will be going right at him. Booker and Chambers versus our smaller corners is a worrisome matchup. Huff seems to be having a sophomore slump as well. With McMichael out of Miami, perhaps Huff will be free to make other plays this week, instead of being isolated on a TE.
Wonder if Fabian will be back in the starting line-up, or if Routt did enough to start another week.
My guess is Warren will start again over Sands.
With the bye on the horizon, Burgess will most certainly sit out another week, so he’s got two more to heal up right, same with Gallery.
Zach Thomas will play.
September 27th, 2007 at 9:57 am
Damn moderation…crap sucks!!!
September 27th, 2007 at 9:58 am
Someday…maybe years from now…people will realize our QB situation is hardly the biggest issue we face.
In all 3 games our D has been given a lead in the fourth quarter:
Detroit at their own 20 - drive 80 yards for the TD
Denver deep in their own territory - drive for the game tying FG
Cleveland pinned at their own 7 - drive to the Raider 23 to kick the winning 40 yard FG
Special teams saved our D from blowing its third lead in as many weeks.
If Carson Palmer can’t win in the NFL because he has no D help, nobody on our roster will.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:09 am
They need to hang Porter’s quote to reporters in the locker room
“We dropped some games that we weren’t supposed to lose,” Porter said. “But it happens. What do we do from now? We start off and get our first victory at home this Sunday against Oakland.”
Also looks like the fins will be doing a lot of blitzing , Porter was whining about not enough blitzes, hope Cpep is up to it on his audibles and mobility , like someone said yesterday screen pass plays and quick outs to isolated TEs should keep us in the game and ahead.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:10 am
I think we need a big game from our tight ends to be successful. They need to block effectively ( maybe some chip blocking on Jason Taylor ) and receive well. I didn’t see all of the Cleveland game, but they seemed a little quiet to me. I would love to see Madsen and Miller have big games. Maybe we could steal a page out of the New England playbook and have some deep TE strikes down the middle of the field. Also someone needs to call up Lester Hayes and have him give some stick-um to Mike Williams.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:15 am
I hope they’re doing a lot of 2 minute no huddle defensive drills , because that seems to be the exact weakness every game.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:28 am
The first play of the game Miami is gonna stack 8 in the box and come after Jordan HARD! It’s the perfect chance for us to run a fle flicker on the first play deep to Porter and set the tone for this one. Man that would be SWEET!
September 27th, 2007 at 10:32 am
how did special teams save the day?
they let the browns back in the game with the kickoff return, and another good kickoff return.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:33 am
Jimi18 JJvill
Sundays weather forecast says thunder all day, and not JUST the weather if you know what i mean… =) LOL
so black unis won’t be a problem…
Blackholepriest…
yeah I know what you mean, but I don’t think we should draft a safety, remember Pats drafted Merriweather. I think we should get Eugene Wilson from the pats, he’ll be a UFA in Feb.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:34 am
I think we should draft me
September 27th, 2007 at 10:35 am
yo, it doesnt matter what the weather says in miami, i live here, it doesnt matter what they say, it will rain, it wil be gloomy, then sunny, then rainy,
the good thing is that its gotten less humid
September 27th, 2007 at 10:37 am
COW, you compare our defense to Cincinati?. blowing late leads is one thing ,having no defense at all is totally something else. also it seems no one takes into acct the t/o’s and ba field position the defense gets put in. It’s always DEFENSE just stop them and we win. at some point our OFFENSE need sto take the respnsibility to finish off an opponent and close out the game. Our offense had the ball with less than 2 min. and couldn’t finish the deal. How the kill the clock and we all go home fat and happy our defense should never have had to stop Cleveland, the game should have been over.
In all 3 games we’ve had leads and the ball and the offense comes up short esp. vs Denver w/ the JP overthrow vs the Lins 2 t/o’s in our own endzone. What’s up with that? It’s always the defenses fault, this is A TEAM game.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:45 am
HeyRaider Nation -
My first time posting — a lot of good posts here — I’m pumped for this weekend’s game and think we’re finally going to put it all together — offense, defense, and Special Teams — I think the receiving core is pumped that Daunte’s getting a shot to show he still has what it takes to be top flight QB.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:48 am
we gotta watch the run- yea theyve been good, but thats what the dolfs are gonna focus on.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:51 am
all these dolphags here in miami, think that this is gonna be win #1 for them, they’re thinking that this is gonna be a lock. they’re gonna hit reality when they’re picking in the top 3 next year in the draft.
September 27th, 2007 at 10:52 am
Silver Blood….Black Veins, wish I had thought of that. I have said too many times to count over the years that I bleed Silver & Black, but I have never heard that. Awesome!
Scottish Raider, you are a native of Scotland? How did U become a Raider fan and U seem to follow our football (college also) pretty closely?
Man, diehard Raider fans across the globe. I guess I should count my blessings about being within 240 miles of the HOT.
“Sorry Nate. It was only +2 degrees in Edinburgh this morning, damp and very autumnal. Thoughts just turned to spring…….”
I’m in California, it’s gonna be 90 here today…..those words made me long to see Scotland and Ireland. When I watch movies like Braveheart or Far and Away, it stirs my soul. Before I die, I hope to visit your stomping grounds. Raider On!
JUST WIN WITH DAUNTE BABY!!!
September 27th, 2007 at 10:53 am
Chad E… The first raider fan i ever met, called him by that name
September 27th, 2007 at 10:57 am
My guess is they are not the same guy, since we both from Denmark
September 27th, 2007 at 11:02 am
Nice post BHP….I too have been screaming for the knockout punch from the O. We can win a Super Bowl with Kiff’s O, and a top 10 D, I really think the TD’s will come with DC in there! I’m super jacked about this game. Denver was a big teaser/letdown, I want to see DC for 4 quarters!
How well do the Patsies protect their D with their O? Pretty damn nicely.
I kind of think Kiff is playing a motivational game with DC. Kiff had to know sooner or later DC would need to takeover. I think this slant towards McBoot is to motivate DC to bring his best, mental and physical. At least I hope that’s it, if it is completely for real, then it’s SCARY!!!!
JUST WIN WITH DAUNTE BABY!!!
September 27th, 2007 at 11:09 am
Things just seem to happen. DC goes against his old team, the Fins. DJack goes against the Shehawks, and Lewis goes against the Ravens. It’s Homecoming Week.
September 27th, 2007 at 11:10 am
Blackholepriest…
you said we should draft a safety higher… but we haven’t been lucky drafting safety’s. They are so important players so I would prefer an developed saftey over a new stud.
from a previous post
\/
yeah I know what you mean, but I don’t think we should draft a safety, remember Pats drafted Merriweather. I think we should get Eugene Wilson from the pats, he’ll be a UFA in Feb.
What do you think about that idea? i know its premature, but so is the draft talk -it’s still good football talk =)
September 27th, 2007 at 11:29 am
Glad to see that everyone is upbeat in the forum today and I am assuming it’s because we will finally get to see Culpepper start for us. I wanted to point out a few things about Miami’s defense.
They are 20th overall on D
They are 18th against the pass
They are 29th against the run
I am in no way intimidated by Miami’s defense and neither should any one else. This is not the strong Miami defense of the past were you can’t run on them and they beat you with Defense and few mistakes and 5 Olindo Mare field goals. We should be able to run on them as Cleveland is right next to them at number 30 against the run.
Raiders 28 Miami 13
I’M IN!!
September 27th, 2007 at 11:34 am
People are down on our defense, and rightfully so, because THE DEFENSE are the ones that were supposed to be our strength on the team. It was the DEFENSE that claimed all they needed was 17-points from the offense to win. Sure, the offense didn’t provide the knockout punch versus Denver, Janikowski missed attempt #2, and the special teams gave up a kickoff return…BUT bottom line, in the end…in the fourth quarter, our defense was given a lead THREE TIMES, and THREE TIMES they’ve NOT delivered.
Additionally, the manner in which they have not delivered has been appalling. They gave little to NO resistance on any of those 3 drives. They were the ones that talked the talk, they are the ones that were supposed to be the back bone for the team to lean on, and they are the ones who have given up the critical drives. We ALL expected better, and they have not delivered, so absolutely, the criticism is fair and deserved!
September 27th, 2007 at 11:39 am
It is about to Time!!! My beloved Raiders coming to the M.I.A. and cook some of our weak dolphin for lunch…Ryan420 is right, the weather here is highly unpredictable and will never know until game day. Everybody down here is guaranting the Dolphins first victory so the excitment level here is pretty high..they still consider us the laughingstock of the league…cant wait to walk into Pro Player stadium with my Raiders jersey!
Does anyone know whats the likelyhood of getting autographs prior to the game?? Might be a pipe dream but I wasnt sure how it works. Is there any interaction with players before or after gametime..got great seats behind visitor section and would love to get a football signed by Kirk Morrisson our soon to be Pro Bowl LB!!!!
Thank Raider Faithful!
September 27th, 2007 at 11:57 am
I sat behind the team in Seattle and witnessed Culpepper throw the ball he was warming up with before the game to a very happy fan. That is about as good as it gets. I did notice Curry walk over and sign some autographs. Again this was all done while they were warming up before they went back into the locker room to get completely dressed for the game.
I mentioned it before, but I had my 4 year old with me sitting in the front row of the visitor’s sideline well before the game and the dude that takes care of Kiffin’s headset came over and gave my son a Raiders hat. Too cool. The Raiders photo taker, Tony G. took a pic of us as well. Seeing the Raiders in person is the best feeling. Next stop is Oakland for a game.
September 27th, 2007 at 12:04 pm
Maybe Kiff was keeping it simple when DC came in the game, but when he did, he (DC) was able to find our TEs. For those not at the game or watching, Madsen line up up at FB a few times, went in motion and was often open. Another time DC faked the hand off, faked toward Madsen in the flat and came back and hit Jordan. Niners (ugh.) used to run a similar route and it worked throughout Young’s career.
DC makes quick strikes and reads all through his progressions. McCown would look for his primary and then dump it off….Once I saw Griffith sneak out of the back and was wide open for a TD…McCown never saw him..he went for the “insta-check” and hit Jordan on a dump off. Yawn. More DC and his quick strike arm.
September 27th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
guys….iI HATE TO TELL YOU THIS BUT……I’M GOING TO THE GAME IN MIAMI SUNDAY…AND THE RAIDERS HAVE LOST 11 STRAIGHT WHEN I’VE ATTENDED. i HAVENT WITNESSED A WIN SINCE 1996 IN MEADOWLANDS…SO DONT GET YOUR HOPES UP!
September 27th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Time to turn Morrison and Howard loose. With their speed, and tenacity, they will make big plays to stop drives, and force turnovers. The D-line is not bringing enough heatby itself, the blitz will save us from those 3rd and long killers that we’re so accustomed to.
September 27th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
ditto what silver blood said- he must be psychic- or is it me?? - i was thinking exactly the same two things this morning w the tight ends AND w/ the stickem and lester teaching MW!!!
September 27th, 2007 at 12:18 pm
Our TE’s have actually done very well, we don’t throw the ball very much, we only had a total of 14 completions in the Browns game and 4 went to TE’s
John Madsen - 3 catches for 61 yards a 20.3 Average
Zach Miller - 1 catch for 13 yards a 13.0 Average
September 27th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Can someone assasinate RaiderMike??? j/k, no need to worry hommie, it is your time to feel a victory. This team has been competive with-out any real confidence. Now we have a win along with the big armed QB, this team is going to refuse to loose to Miami. Looking forward to brighter days.
If for no other reason than to keep DC on the field for weeks to come. I watched them dig real deep to grind out the Clevland win. They will do it again!
September 27th, 2007 at 12:22 pm
In pre-season, DC used the tight ends often, good QB’s do. HE was heald back by the situation this last game, look for DC to make some nice plays with his arm this game. Should be fun to watch.
September 27th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
As long as we get the win. Joey Porter guaranteed a win. This is an important game if they want to keep pace in the AFC west. I would have never think the Raiders will have a chance at winning the division, but looking at the other teams record; they might have a shot.

For those of you who said that the Raiders’ black unis would be a problem this Sunday in Miami…. Are’nt our away jerseys white? Home unis are black, if I’m not mistaken. LET’S FRY US SOME FISH!!!

I posted this idea last nite. I am in South Fl. ..a Raider Fanatic… I am concerned about Vegas making the fish a 4 pt. fav. !! There is no way based on how the Fins played that they would be favorite. Pick em ..maybe! What is going on? Maybe Cam knows the AFC west play books? Or … S>>> I dont know but I am nervous. Vegas is rarely wrong. I will go into a deep depression if the Silver n Black lose to these losers!!

WELL U GOT TO KNOW THAT WE WOULD BE ATLEAST 3 POINT DOGS WE HAVE ONLY WON 2 ROAD GAMES IN 2 OR THREE YEARS AND BASED ON OUR 2ND HALF DEFENSE THIS YEAR THEY ARE GIVING THEM THE SWING POINT
September 27th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Fair point.. but 4 points? The fins have sucked… their D has been non existent in the 2nd as well!

LETS HOPE THERE DEFENSIVE WOO`S CONTINUE THIS WEEKEND. I THINK THE KID WILL HAVE THEM FOCUSED GOING INTO THIS GAME AS WELL AS THE 2ND HALF. I MEAN AFTER THEY ALMOST CAME FROM AHEAD TO LOSE AGAIN LAST WEEK IT HAS TO BE ON ALL THE GUYS MINDS. I THINK I WILL TAKE SOME OF THAT MONEY TO WATCH C PEP SHUT PORTERS MOUTH!

Thanks Chad E. ( and Dski from a previous blog ). I feel like we have a good chance against the Dolphins, mostly because Cable just seems to have melted down the old offensive line and re-forged it into a unit that is much tougher and smarter. I’m happy that Culpepper is starting, but he looked pretty rusty to me in Cleveland. I was pissed when he missed that wide open receiver ( Curry I think ) down the left sideline. It was a possible touchdown and the receiver was wide open. I’m surprised that more people haven’t mentioned it. It was roughly the same play that McCown botched twice in Denver. I was ready to have Jamarcus come in and play……legally or not ( just kidding). If Culpepper can regain some touch on the ball, and we can keep the Miami pass rush off of him, I think we’ll see another Raiders win.
On a culinary note - try flame broiling your Dolphin steak - possibly with some lemon and garlic. Dolphin also makes a nice addition to your Bouillibaise along with chunks of Trent Green. MMMMM, MMMMM Good.

Dear M.I.A. Raider,
If you want autographs from Raider players trying hanging out at the hotel in Miami the Raiders will be staying at the night before the game. That’s what we do in San Diego, always a good time. In San Diego we always see Al Davis and his entourage (Mrs. Davis, Jim Otto, George Blanda, etc.). It’s a good bet you’ll find Tom Flores and Jim Plunkett sitting at the bar. You should get some autographs if you go to the hotel Saturday night.
Sincerely,
Charles Oakey

aaaaaah now we all know why RaiderMike is always SCREAMING! lol. J/K Mike. there is truth in every one of your loud ass posts, so keep it up.
and i aggree 100% with Jimi18s first post. once one of the Bazookas takes over the QB-spot, were gonna see the “quick-strike” offense coach Kiff wus talking about.
cause with this running game, our backside WR is 1-on-1 all day with his guy….. when you start hitting those, like the one McCown missing Porter late against denver, early and consistently, , IT’S OVER! its gonna be like a mine-field for the defenses.
I CAN SEE IT COACH! and i’ve been IN ‘eva!

Good morning Nation! This sorry ass loser Travis Daniels had this to say:
“We don’t care about Daunte,” Daniels said. “We don’t care about nobody on their team. We’ve got Trent Green. That’s our quarterback. That’s who we care about. That’s who we ride with. We don’t care if they have John Elway as their quarterback. What was in the past is in the past.”
Please pass this to the team before they leave on there trip down here, So when DC torches the db’s on Sunday he can laugh at the junk they said and are.
This is the same loser that can’t win a job with his ex-coach Dick Saban coaching him.
LET’S KICK THERE ASS DAUNTE, NUFF SAID!
I’M IN!!!!!!!!!!!!
