Wide receiver/return specialist Tim Dwight has been offered a one-year contract, a move which could spell the end for wide receiver Mike Williams.

According to Raiders beat writer Steve Corkran, citing a club front office source, Dwight could sign the offer as soon as Tuesday. Dwight was included in a parade of players who have worked out for the Raiders in recent weeks.

Dwight, 32, has played for Atlanta, San Diego, New England and the New York Jets. He has averaged 23.4 yards on kick returns and 9.8 on punt returns in his career. He also has 188 receptions for 2,866 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Williams dropped a fourth-and-14 pass from Daunte Culpepper Sunday which could have provided the Raiders with a first down and a chance for a road victory in Tennessee. He also was one of two players illegally in motion that negated a big gain on a passing play to Ronald Curry on a third-and-long situation.

The Raiders have had little success in the return game with Chris Carr doing most of the work, supplemented at one time or another by Johnnie Lee Higgins and Dominic Rhodes.

Of course, the Raiders could keep Williams on the roster if they simply decide to waive Andrew Walter, the No. 4 quarterback who has essentially become a spectator in practice behind Culpepper, Josh McCown and JaMarcus Russell.

The condition of Tommy Kelly’s knee also plays a part. Coach Lane Kiffin was uncharateristically pessimistic about the injury, which Kelly incurred late in the third quarter.
