Kelly out for the season

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 at 6:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

A defense which has struggled against the run has lost its best run defender for the season.

Tommy Kelly, the Raiders starting right defensive end, will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Raiders beat writer Steve Corkran reported.

Kelly, at 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, is the most versatile Raiders defensive lineman in that he can play inside and out. As a base end, Kelly was Oakland’s best player at holding the point of attack on a defense which has surrendered 100 yards or more to five different runners this season.

He may have been the Raiders best all-around player up front over the last three games.

The Raiders and Kelly had begun talks about extending his contract, which runs through this season. That process could be put on hold as the club monitors a rehab which could take until March.

With Kelly headed for injured reserve, another roster spot will become available. The Raiders will be short a defensive lineman, but coach Lane Kiffin also sounded Monday as if running back Michael Bush could be brought back soon from the physically unable to perform list.

The lone defensive end on the practice squad is Mkristo Bruce, although the Raiders could promote tackle Josh Shaw and move Tyler Brayton back to defensive end or search for a street free agent.

In other developments, the signing of Tim Dwight is a done deal, as the veteran return specialist and wide receiver passed the club’s physical. The Raiders also waived practice squad wide receiver P.K. Sam.

The Raiders waived wide receiver Mike Williams earlier Tuesday.

A possible destination for Williams could be Tennessee _ the very place where he lost his job by dropping a fourth-and-14 pass in the red zone.

The Titans, where former USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow resides, were reportedly interested in acquiring Williams before the Raiders did, but the deal stalled when they wouldn’t go beyond a sixth-round draft pick.

Tommy Kelly is a beast. Get better soon. We need depth.

whose the starting qb in practice???

  4. Terrapin Says:

ok…my self-imposed stupid comment blog ban has been lifted…thxs jerry

  5. r8r4fer Says:

well we cant get any worse stopping the run we sucked when he started

  6. Terrapin Says:

I wasn’t surprised to hear this. From the tube it looked pretty bad. This is a setback given Kelly’s plug-n-play versatility, but I think we’ll manage when Warren gets back and JRich is real good vs the run. We have decent depth on defense.

On another note: I was watching NFLN Colts v Panthers and man we are a long ways away. Damn are those Colts good. There’s absolutely NO DOUBT we are having problems w/ our qbs getting from under center. Watching Manning he gets from under there so quick and it looks so smooth. Our snaps looks out of sync, out of rythm, and ackward. We have a long way to go. We need better WRs. This will take time to acquire.

  7. r8r4fer Says:

newberry and slo pepper have issues in that department it ’s painful to watch

  8. Terrapin Says:

yeah…the Colts offense is all about timing…and watching Manning get from under center and at the top of his drop - then looking at our qbs try the same thing - man you can tell our qb’s latest from center is f’ing up all the timing on offense.

In more news - JR is the 5th highest paid QB in the league but is the only who hasn’t played a snap yet. Boy you better be worth it.

  9. Huff24 Says:

I was reading on Profootballtalk.com about the Patriots and how they are running up the score on all the teams that they play and how people are wondering whether the ownership (the Krafts) of the Patriots would have trouble with the other owners of the league because of it. I find it similiar to the Raiders of old when the Raiders used to beat up and try to hurt the opposing teams. I bet the owners back then felt like Al Davis was being unprofessional and betraying them by not playing by the code. Al Davis was a true Raider and played by his own code and that was domination at all costs. The Patriots seem to have that Raider mentality of old and I kind of like it. It will be interesting to see whether Kraft slowly gets looked at in the same light as Al Davis down the road as he beats on teams just like the Raiders of past.

  10. Blackholepriest Says:

Doesn’t surprise me. BAD LOSS. It’s Richardson’s chance to shine. Go back and get Hawtorne. for DT depth.

  11. Ripped van Winkle Says:

    Raiders:

what part of OUT didn’t you under stand? He s gone till next year.

    Whats Warren’s ETA?

We should ditch Brayton in a trade

  12. Terrapin Says:

Huff24 - I was thinking the same thing from quite a while now. Its almost like the Patriots stole our thunder - stole our mojo! I want it back ASAP!

Too many similaries b/t the Pats now and the legend of the RAIDERS back then.

  13. Terrapin Says:

I hope Kiffin will bring us back. We already see that Kiffin is not ashamed to run up a score (see Miami). Put a check by that box.

  14. Huff24 Says:

1st - Who would trade for Brayton
2nd - The Trading deadline has passed.

  15. Huff24 Says:

The scary thing about the Patriots is that their current team is 10x better than the 3 teams they won the Superbowl with. The Colts seem to be the only thing that stands in their way and they almost look mediocre compared. I told my brother, who is a Cowboys fan, that this is the worst time for the Cowboys to finally be a good team because of the Patriots and Colts. Those teams are like the Cowboys/Niners era in the 92-95 timeframe. The lone tough teams on the NFC are the Cowboys and Packers and they play on Thanksgiving so that will be another good matchup but I just don’t see either one pulling out a win over the AFC. I hate to say this because I love the Raiders but this is the one time I wouldn’t mind seeing us black out just so we can see the Patriots/Colts game. That game might as well be the Superbowl.

  16. Huff24 Says:

What bad timing. We really could have gone after Grady Jackson with the injury to Tyler Brayton but that might not have worked out since he is a former Raider and I’m sure he’d rather join a good team that could be on the way to the playoffs.

  17. Huff24 Says:

Correction - The injury to Tommy Kelly. Sorry.

  18. 808Raidah Says:

TOO BAD FOR KELLY. I liked the fact that he was versatile and that he would come to work and just play ball. No interviews or talking.

It looks like Josh Shaw may be moved up to the active roster.

  19. 0tt0 Says:

Ripped van Winkle must have been sleeping…the trade deadline has passed….

  20. 808Raidah Says:

Sands really needs to step up now. Gerard Warren needs to get healthy and get back to how he was playing before he got hurt. Sapp seems to be coming on (2 sacks in 2 wks) and always gives 100%. Brayton & Richardson are swing players and can be used at DT or DE.

  21. 0tt0 Says:

so…as it turn out…..we never got to see our projected starting DL of burgess-warren-sapp-kelly at full strength……i think as a group they would have done well

  22. Sir casm Says:

Maybe we should trade Kelly now.

  23. sloraider Says:

Noe tha t Williams is gone maybe we will get to see Madsen again. Or, is he still on the roster?

  24. johnnyswing Says:

Time to step it up, Richardson.

  25. johnnyswing Says:

Trade deadline passed after week 6. And, you can’t trade someone on IR.

  26. The Hunter Says:

Grady Jackson was signed today by the Jaguars.

We need a real GM, the authority to make personnel decisions needs to reside with one person so we can negotiate and close deals quickly when necessary.

    We really missed that opportunity.

  27. Blackholepriest Says:

What makes you think we don’t have a real GM? b/c we didn’t get the player YOU wanted. Maybe THEY didn’t want Grady. There are a lot of teams that didn’t sign Grady. I guess they don’t have real GM’s either.

  28. K-Rock Says:

No help for Curry and Porter.

Anyone have a clue who else is out there? Keyshawn maybe? LOL!

Why carry 4 QBs when we need help at WR and DL?

If Bush comes on board will we carry 4 RBs as well?

I have never seen anything like this. It’s like the offseason during the middle of the season.

  29. r8r4fer Says:

their not going to carry 4 QBS now that mc cown is healthy and i dont know if walter is the odd man out either

  30. r8r4fer Says:

the russell hold out really f ed things up we ended up eating a rooster spot carrying 4 QBs Bush would be a welcome addition , the nations counting on him for to be a possitive

What makes you think we don’t have a real GM?

    …………

Um, because our GM is Al Davis, who’s easily one of the worst GM’s in all of sports?

  32. rodmoney Says:

I hope that the Raiders go after Thomas from N.E. or bring up Bruce to see if he will work out. We need to try different players to improve, canning the underachievers may wake up the others that are not going all out every play. We have potential Kiff just has to motivate the players to get it done. I believe Madsen can take williams slot for he will catch the ball and not fumble it when he does. Yeah he will block instead of raising his hand signaling touchdown and allow the opponent to run down the ballcarrier. Miami game.

  33. Blackholepriest Says:

They’ll get things worked out. Kiffin’s trying to put together a roster that he feels will win a few games this year. And provide a nucleus for next year. He has to change the attitude of this team NOW. From how are going to lose the game, to what can I do to help us WIN the game

And what he did to M. Williams should light a fire under them. This kids tired of losing.

  34. cautious optimist Says:

Put Bush on the IR…..why risk further injury to that leg????
To please the fans in a losing season? Let him heal slowly and completely.

  35. Blackholepriest Says:

Yeah! sure right uh huh. He stinks!!

  36. cautious optimist Says:

Blackholepriest ….don’t you just love these know it all young punks.

Rome wannabees…..don’t know anything but they’re all experts.

  37. Blackholepriest Says:

They just want an arguement. As far as I’m concerned they step into a closet and argue with a coat hanger.

  38. Raider Glory Says:

Hey Black Hole Priest………..Hang in there my man!!…..I hate it when some of the keyboard WARRIORS come in here and try to respond to your thought just to pick a fight!! Rather childish. I think. I LOVE this site because it let’s us VENT after Raider games, especially after losses. But their is no need for trolls in here! Im with you man!! JUST IGNORE THEM!! I respect your opinion as I do a few other guys in here. Keep posting man!! GO RAIDERS!! LONG LIVE AL!!!

  39. KoolKell Says:

Nothing was settled in pre-season, nothing is settled now. Another wasted season? Who’s in charge here?

  40. Kirk Says:

Michael Bush and Jamarcus Russell are coming. Help is on the way.

Defense is playing better, and Sea Bass is kicking better. More help.

In the off season find some offensive and defensive linemen. In the draft, free agency, whatever.

  41. Raiders Fanatic Says:

We’d don’t need to sign anyone now. Kelly spot goes to Bush. This is PERFECT. Brayton can play 2 position in DT/DE. It’s good to have versatility. The next Earl Campbell with breakaway speed… Micheal Bush!

  42. Art Shell's laughter Says:

The Raiders haven’t won 3 straight games since the 2002 season. Hardly the work of an owner who “wants to win more badly than any owner in the game”.

  43. Vicki Says:

Who are you guys that think you own this site and all things known about the Raiders? As far as I am concerned, if you are “in” on some level with the Raiders that makes you part of the problem. Still pandering to the old days that have become fossils in this new era. Let me make myself clear because there are those of you that will surely say that I am not a Raider fan. I live and die surely as all of you each season and never would I switch to another team, I am a Raider fan, in fact I am not a football fan but a Raiders fan. I could care less about the other 31 teams. I am tired of being told to be patient because they have a new coach and it takes time to build a winner. They always have a new coach, what good does that do every two years?
We do not have a GM. Find him in the offical program and identify him. Whoever he is he is doing a shite job and I am not afraid to tell that to whomever it is. The problem with this organization is one person to whom everyone else panders to like a God. Afraid of telling their true opinions because their gravy train might end. The talented people leave as they have other options and will not subject themselves to meddeling from a overbearing all knowing owner. Al Davis was great truly a pioneer of the NFL, but his instability is marring the Raiders imagine and his own. He wants to be bigger than the team. The demise of the Raiders started with Marcus Allen. It used to be the Raider greats, we were a family. Our stars would show up to support the team. Where are they now? Who are those to take their place? We have one that comes to mind, Tim Brown and since I don’t live in the area I don’t know if he is involved but they are not producing greats anymore, so who is in charge of finding talent? Talent that sticks around because they believe in the organization? We live in the past because we don’t see the future beyond preseason.
Oh and there is one difference between the Raiders of old and the Patriots of this day and age. The cheatriots are run by a totally classless guy. Belicheats doesn’t have an ounce of human in him, he degrades his winning legacy by being a ahole that no one will mourn when he is gone and Kraft is no Al Davis, he doesn’t have the balls to give the NFL the finger. the patriots got caught cheating and now they have decided to embarass the NFL out of spite and anger for vengence, the Raiders did it for the fun of it, big difference.

  44. Hell Raiderrrs Says:

Let’s consider for a moment are Qb situation.

We have one that can scramble but can’t throw.
We have another that with time can throw but can’t scrabble.
We have a rookie who has never played in the NFL.
And yet another who isn’t even allowed in the dog house.

All this behind an O-line that can’t even get out of it own way. And we are worried about what DE we need to sign? We need to use these roster spots for O-line man and get an early start on next years rebuilding.

  45. JellyRoll Says:

What about Doug Gabriel….did anyone pick him up? Doug would not have dropped the 4th down pass from Pepp.

  46. SouthFLARaider Says:

Jelly Roll, I agree. We should have kept Gabriel. Don’t know why Kiiff let him go.

  47. SouthFLARaider Says:

Shoud have kept Quentin Moses too….

  48. Madumb Raider Says:

Anyone else notice my stupidity and hypocrisy. Our current GM is Al Davis because we haven’t been winning. Yet back in the glory days, this guy wasn’t our GM it was Ron Wolf and John Madden.

  49. Capt Clueless Says:

Gezzus Vicki, thanks for ripping on us saying we’re ‘all-knowing’ and then taking the same tone with us.

“The problem with this organization is one person to whom everyone else panders to like a God.”

This is why you Al-hating morons can’t be taken seriously. What did Lane Kiffin say right after he was hired here? I don’t have the exact quote, but is close to this. “I wasn’t going to come in here and tell him what he wanted to hear. I was going to tell him what I thought.”

John Madden has constantly talked about how Al would take an opposite stance from him, not necessarily because Al disagreed, but because he wanted Madden to show that he truly believed in what he was arguing for. These types of stories far outweigh Madouche’s bible of “you’re okay it’s just a bruise”.

I will continue to base my football opinions on Al Davis based on these types of people and not media generalizations like you.

One last thing, here’s a clue from Capt. Clueless. I can’t stand the way Wal-Mart conducts their business(I know MaddenRaider is a trainee there), so guess what I don’t shop there. Translation, this is a privately-owned franchise. You don’t like the guy runs it, shop somewhere else.

  50. SC Raider Says:

Damn man that sucks about Kelly. I hope he heals well and can come back 100% next year so we can lock him up to a long term contract. He’s versatile and we have all watched him develop and continue to improve. GOOD LUCK TK.

  51. SC Raider Says:

Does anyone know a website that has Free agents listed by position? I would like to take a look.

  52. RaiderTW Says:

This blog is like a stream of consciousness of a Raider fan. Except of course unlike most fans sites this one has trolls from other teams posing as Raider fans. The way to tell the two is the posers DON’T KNOW FOOTBAL!!! If you don’t know the trading deadline has past then you are a fraudulent Raider fan. If you are for cutting players midseason without a replacement you are Art Shell as far as I’m concerned. Vicki said it all for most of us. This season started before the Raiders were prepared. No off line changes to mention(which is the biggest problem for yrs) & QB job unsettled. Now how many fans could possiblly think the Raiders are ready opening day? The season was over (for all practicle purposes) when we lost all AFC West games. Now it comes down to coaching. Play calling has to drift to misdirection, screens(how many screens have you see as a Raider fan?) Flea flickers, BOMBS, just to f*ck with the other teams. Play Russel now, quick plays that leave his hands in seconds.

  53. Vicki Says:

Yeah I guess I have turned into an Al basher, why not I am not on the payroll. Ya know what Al Davis maybe the greatest person in the world, I don’t know him so I take his actions for his words. Where are the top free agents? Why are we talking about most of the team’s draft picks as busts? Where is the stability in coaching staffs, if you ask me his coaching staff turnover gives him an excuse to put any product on the field and blame it on someone else. He got very rich off the Raiders and let’s give credit where it is due, the Raiders benefited from him too, but that hasn’t been the case of the last twenty years and maybe by fans speaking out he hears some truth that maybe someone else is afraid to tell him. I never intended my tirade to sound so preachy and surly I come off as a bandwagoner fan who loves them when they win and rips them when they lose. I am sure that if for some miracle of miracle happens this season and we go to the playoffs I will be the I told you so for some of you and I would happily eat my words, but I am a Raider fan no doubt about that you know we are born that way and doesn’t every fan go to the breaking point with this team at times? Forgive me, I just thought I would share my thoughts, we are a passionate lot.

  54. RaiderTW Says:

Next season the coaches need desperately to rid themselves of SIMMS, BRAYTON,
possibly Gallery. Play Russel now. I liked Cullpepper signing but NEVER wanted him to play just tutor JR. DC is the NFL all time fumbler at QB, his hands are smaller than most women (sorry Vicki, nice for females very bad for a Raider QB). Get players on the field (Bush, Madsen, Higgins, get get Morant & Gabriel back, someone who can beat a saftey or CB) & send them deep, let Russel throw. Even if it’s to Miller short, put the fear of Lamonica in them and the running game will fool the feces outta a lotta teams. That’s my 2 cents.

  55. Vicki Says:

Oh and btw the true test of this season will be how we do against our division, if they split the games then we can look to the future as fans and say maybe.

  56. Vicki Says:

I have ranted now and will not say another negative thing. Hold the applause to a minimum please.
Do we still have Travis Taylor on the team? What is his big worth if he is, I would rather have MW.

  57. RaiderTW Says:

No Travis Taylor no M Williams. Did you see the pushing off for a TD by NE WR R. Moss?Sunday? He was called for that EVERY TIME as a Raider. Not as a Patsy. What’s wrong here? The NFL has turned into Pro Wrestling.Refs choose the winner before hand.

  58. Terrapin Says:

What is Kiffin going to do now?

I’m slowly coming around to the realization that we have a grossly under-talented Offense. Thats not to say there are not pieces there to work with, but compared to the Colts, Pats, or even Cincy we are seriously lacking.

We don’t have a great core of WRs - no go-to guy like TBrown, JRice or Freddie B. We have an undisciplined and incompenent at times Oline. We don’t have a legit feature RB (LJ has done an admirable job in the beginning but he’s no elite rb no matter how much we try to make him one). We have average at best qbs starting.

The fact that Kiffin is CLOSE TO winning with these pieces in AMAZING. And it can be agrued that we should be 5-2 which is even more astounding when you think about it.

  59. Terrapin Says:

But what we do have and what I see Kiffin building (taking a macro view) -

We have damn good TEs - ZM is looking like a franchise piece and JMadsen is a hybrid wr/te. We have a “potential” feature rb (MB) and a “potential” franchise caliber qb (JR). We have good FBs as well. And 1 offensive lineman that stays out of trouble (CC).

We have a long way to go to sure up this offense. All of the talent is on defense. We have potentials out there. Hopefully they will work out, and if they do we just have to focus on wr and oline in the offseason. If they work out it becomes a 2 year project just like someone (?) pointed out before - before we can win consistently.

Tell us Vicki….what sports you’ve played and the coaching changes you’ve went thru to qualify your statement. Ever work? How about for a company that changes management….even the smallest companies have a huge learning curve with new bosses. the Raiders have had 4 new bosses in 5 years.

Where are the top free agents?

There’s a salary cap and 31 other teams to bid against for those free agents…..it’s not like you running out of money but still writting checks because there’s plenty of them left.

He got very rich off the Raiders.

Vicki , honey, pay attention and listen closely sweetie…..there are 32 teams that share the revenue from the Television network contracts ….last one 3 billion dollars…..thats where NFL teams make their money and they all get an even share reguardless of market size. Do you even know what the salary cap is???

  61. Terrapin Says:

RaiderTW - You make an extremely valid point. I watched a highlight of Candy Randy and he damn sure pushed off (vs Dolphins) - no call ~ go figure

If he was in Oakland the would get called for that 10 out of 10 times. The double standard is ridiculous.

I’m going to think about what you said, and go to my dart board with Al picture on it.
    Great points , I think.

  65. nvmike Says:

l is getting up there in years. I have heard that Kiffen was brought in to replace Al, not just to coach, but to carry the organization into the 21st century. If this is true, he will do it in a much different way than Al Davis, probably the influence of Pete Carroll vs. Al’s Sid Gillman roots. If I remember correctly, Al was about 32 when he took over the Silver and Black.

  66. Raider0525 Says:

    Vicki,
First of all I want to say that I do not get on here and bash other people when they post. But when you come on here and start bit**ing about things and you make no sense I have to say something. Most of your posts are very good and you make a lot of sense and I do recall when someone told you to go play with your barbie dolls.

If you think by fans complaining to Al about different thing and he will actually listen, then you don’t know Al or the Raiders. Bottom line Al is there to make money both for himself and the team, don’t you think he wouldn’t do whatever it takes to make it work? He can’t just run out and grab every free agent and sign him…the NFL wont allow that.

You also say if the Raiders make the playoffs, I’m sorry but that wont happen, and yes I love the Raider stoo but it’s not going to happen this yr. They are not a good team at all, yes they have talent, but good teams win games and you can’t say “well if this happened and that we could of won the game” no sh*t…good teams win them period but we have to look at the possitive things that come out of each game and this yr is so much better than last yr…in my opinion that is.

I don’t bash Al because he is THE RAIDERS and I respect him so much, but I do think it’s time for him to step down and let someone else make the decisions as far as bringing us back. Again Vicki don’t take this as a bashing. I read all the post and this is a great site.

  67. Vicki Says:

Mr. Cautious please don’t try and degrade me as unqualified to give an opinion about sports because I am a women. Geez, get over your sexist judgements, we are on the verge of having a women president of the United States, honey.
Yeah, I may not have played pro football, but I was a damn good softball player very highly sought after on the co-ed leagues in Utah for many years.
Yes, honey I have worked outside the home. I have been a nurse for 17 years having worked for FHP (if any of you remember them Pacificare bought them years ago) and Northbay Healthcare when I was living in the bay area. I for Godsakes did CPR on my own father and brought him back after a heart attack, could you do that?
I understand the concept of free agency in this scary new world. I understand that maybe the Raiders can’t get decent free agents because maybe they don’t want to work for a laughing stock fights the NFL at every turn when it is in the best interest of his team and the NFL to play along together. You can bet Randy Moss knows this benefit at getting called for pushing off in a Raider uniform and not one in a Pats uniform. I understand the cap space sweetie currently we have room to spare after so many years of having none, funny those were the years we were winning. I understand that the NFL makes money in TV revenues, but that isn’t the only way baby, Luxury suites are quite the rage as well as stadium deal. I have seen Davis leave two cities for money already and you know what, Al is the only team owner to have made his money with the Raiders-he wasn’t exactly a millionaire coach now was he, the other owners were business men who bought their teams from being sucessful in business.

But they weren’t this may have been why our guys were getting all the false starts I know thats not a good excuse. But several other games where you see certain teams get away with holding and other fouls. But I also see coachs working the refs during the game. I know Kiffin is still learning but he needs to start workiing those refs. Maybe if he calls them out some things could change. Shannarat did it a couple of years back and they get away with a bunch of crap. I agree it does look like the WWF. ha ha ha !!!!

    You have better insight.

I woudn’t take that crap either, and you are much more polite than I would have been.

    LOL!!!!

  75. TommyB Says:

Al has been and will be the Raiders til he’s gone - Love em or Leave em. You may not always agree with him or his constant jibber jab abou the old days. He’s the owner and he bleeds silver and black just like the rest of us. Al is our GM and that aint gonna change!

He made some great moves in the past. madden, Plunkett, Jackson, Haynes, Timmy B, Gannon
He made some bad moves Ismail, Larry Brown, Moss, Gruden
Sometimes you gotta take the good with the bad. 3 SB wins

Vicki you are starting to sound like a Radiuh Hayter.

  76. Vicki Says:

Sigh, ya know I just can’t win with some of these fans stuck in the last time the Raiders won a superbowl. Go ahead mock me for saying negative things about a Raider legend just don’t do it for me being a women. I am no feminist by any standard but gee come on into the 21st century.

  77. K-Rock Says:

I like women who like football. If I could get my wife to care enough about the Raiders to know who Al Davis is I would be happy. Much less making informed comments on a blog site.

I don’t care if you agree with her or not guys, you have to admit it is kinda sexy. :)

  78. TommyB Says:

Hey Vick I think you are insightful regardless of sex. I am glad your in the nation. You know Raider fans are the most intelleigent football fans in the nation regardless of sex. Oh, and by the way we are not poser front runner fans like Dallas CBoy fans.

  79. Terrapin Says:

NMRaider - I think Kiffin is slowly realizing the double standard out there. He doesn’t want to make excuses for the team but he’s starting to see it more and more. For instance, I remember very recently during a PC, Kiffin spoke of a penatly called on Griffith (I think) and after the game Kiffin & Co replayed it several times but didn’t see a penalty. He said they submitted it to the league but he didn’t expect much out of it - just a letter saying blah blah blah, bs bs bs.

I think Kiffin is playing physcology games with the league - he’s trying to portray a “clean” image to the league. How else do you explain the NFL caps and always wearing white on gameday? Kiffin’s a slick bastard. ha

  80. Vicki Says:

No I am no Raider hater, that is a typical copout. I would not be on this site if I were a Hater, although sometimes I do troll on the Red Sox and Patriot sites just to give them shite because I am a Yankee fan as well and they have their own foolish owner so I have plenty of knowledge on that subject.
My only point was Al doesn’t have it anymore or he is not trying to win but make money because all those you mentioned are back in the day, except for gannon who was brought in by gruden because he damn sure didn’t have the big arm al covets.
Can you name me anyone besides Tim Brown of this ERA will be in the hall of fame?

  81. DYNOMITE Says:

I would personally like 2 c more blitzes by the defense 2 put more pressure on opposing QBs.
I watched last sundays game against Tenn. and saw numerous times when we had 8 in the box and they were still able to bust through and have sum decent runs against an 8 man front. Now that has 2 b disappointing cuz when teams have been doin that 2 us we haven’t been able 2 get squat. I don’t understand how we play a man defense about 90% of time because we trust our corners to play single coverage most of the game but we won’t blitz more? Does rob ryan not trust them or what? IMO if they’re good 2 play man coverage then we should be mixing up the playcalling on D and allowing morrison and howard 2 harrass the QB as well. Also, I watched the Chiefs-Raiders & heard Phil Simms say that Chiefs QB Damon Huard told him that watching tape of the Raiders D was so boring cuz they run the same thing over and over. 2 me, it takes a good like a brady or manning to run a few series against opponents 2 c what they’re gonna do or where 2 exploit the match-up problems. If the rob ryan were to blitz a lot more, than i think that opposing teams would have more problems against us. I think we have the secondary to accomplish this and I would like 2 c some more aggressive calls on D!!!!! What do you guys think?

  82. Mad Road Dog Says:

Vicki - I feel your frustration and you have every right to vent as your posts have identified as a true Raider fan. My frustration is also high with Al Davis over the lack of a consistently good “O” line over the years but what works for me is knowing that big Al is like a DAD. He is You may not always agree with him but he still deserves our respect. I don’t always trust his decision making anymore but I like his hiring of Kiffen more and more. The way Lane Kiffen has been pruning the Raider tree should mean that he will fix our “O” line problems this next draft. See ya at the game.

  83. Vicki Says:

Thanks for the support guys. It’s late here in England, I have to go make dinner now for my sugar daddy ;*

Oh and I would only bring back Hawthorne if he is off the mary jane, it takes away your drive. what a waste, that guy should have been a beast.

  84. cautious optimist Says:

Oh I’m crushed you think I’m a sexist….but it’s sure easy to push your buttons….are you a female “jock” (dyke).

I would suggest you go learn the truth about AL Davis before you shoot your mouth off. Here I’ll make it easy for you…..http://www.raiders.com/Common/Article.aspx?id=10612
but it’s prabably to much trouble to learn the facts…..easier to listen to mediots who don’t like Al Davis and cant bother to learn the truth either.

R N…real nuckle head….yes . I have given CPR…what does that have to do with the price of eggs in egypt or the Raiders….If you want to get off subject …I worked for a medical equipment manufacturer for 15 years and gave clinical training to blow hard know it nurses like you.
Dream on Hillary is the Media darling but not elected yet….Most women hate her…and women still have the vote.

Luxury boxes …dont make me laugh…..compare that revenue and ticket sales to the overhead of leasing the stadium and see how rich the Raiders are getting…..no overhead at all for Davis , he just rakes it it….

What business did Paul Brown, Curly Lambeau, and George Hallas run??? oh there’s those damn facts that keep getting in the way of your rants.

  85. Chad E Says:

BHP, Terr, RaiderGlory, et al, the ones who see the “big picture”. I would like to see some of freakin’ complainin’ panzy @$$ whiners in here come up with a realistic plan to fix the Raiders.

Not Al Must Die…..Fire Kiffin…..Ron Wolf is God…..did I mention Al Must Die????

What is your plan chicken littles? Ownership, management, coaching, do some work and give us an example of what will “fix” the Raiders for all time.

Or B) STFU or C) root for one of the other 31 teams out there……

This wasn’t going to get done in one year! Many of us fooled ourselves into believing we might have a shot at the playoffs. The last thing we need are any changes in this organization for at least 3 yrs, coaching wise, management wise, etc. What we do need is more TALENT.

Kiffin got rid of a bunch of “scholarship” players this year, he will do the same this offseason. He will bring some good FA’s, and it will be his second draft. There are only a few of marginal players on this roster, which Kiffin inherited, who are still left.

Brayton, Shweigert, Sims, Gallery, OK so the whole offensive line with the exception of the guys who were brought in this year.

Bitchin’ about the past is not gonna fix anything. When you start with the “same old Raiders” you sound like the media, not fans. Not one of us who is in here supporting Kiffin and Davis is happy with losing. Just realizing there is heavy work to be done to clean up the mess.

I guarantee 3 yrs in, you won’t hear Kiffin sounding like that gutless bastard Nolan across the way. Would you rather have Dr. York running our franchise?

1 last thing, just because we don’t have a “GM title” doesn’t mean we don’t people funcitoning in the capacity. What do you think Bruce Allen and Mike Lombardi were doing? Did they have the title? No. Al doesn’t do things like everyone else, that’s why people generally love or hate the man. KK wants to know what GM was in charge of what? Just say what you mean, you believe Al is in charge of everything down to the #2 pencils and what brand of G-string the cheerleaders are allowed to wear, right. If you haven’t figured out who runs this show after 34 yrs, you’re not gonna figure it out ever.

    JUST GET RUSSELL READY BABY!!!

  86. Vicki Says:

Oh I agree with you Mad Dog, if someone outside this blog dissed Al, I would be the first to give him the finger. You can bet on it. In fact, this year is the only time I have ever spoke ill of him in this way, I just see a man that can’t see what is in front of his face.

Here is a good article for you guys…

Purdy: Kiffin drawing the line on penalties
    By Mark Purdy
    Mercury News
Article Launched: 10/29/2007 01:37:07 AM PDT

NASHVILLE - Coaching the Raiders must be a little like trying to raise a small child who keeps drawing on the wall with crayons - even after you tell the kid, over and over, not to draw on the wall with crayons.

Lane Kiffin had to know that when he took the job last winter. But it wasn’t until after Oakland’s 13-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday that he finally seemed to confront his team’s dysfunction. The Raiders committed 11 offensive penalties, including six false starts and three holding calls.
This happened, Kiffin said, even though he “harped all week” in practice about avoiding penalties. But his kids kept coloring on the wall.

“I need to get this offense fixed,” Kiffin said, his temperature clearly simmering behind a relatively calm voice. “I need to put in more discipline. I think we were the most penalized offensive line coming into the game. It’s very disappointing and it needs to change. You can’t play offense like that and win. That’s no secret.”

The Raiders’ record is 2-5, same as it was a year ago after seven games. But three of the five losses have been by four points or fewer. Common theme: Because of their ineffective offense, the Raiders give themselves no margin for error. And then they err it out. Like crazy.

Or, as that eloquent defensive-line statesman Warren Sapp put it: “We came out today like the most undisciplined group that’s ever lined up in a Raider uniform. And that’s real hard to do. Because there’s some crazy stuff going on in this organization for a long time.”

How many times have we seen this the past two seasons? Sunday, the Raiders’ defense was playing well enough to beat most teams. Again. The special teams were decent. Again. But the offense alternated between ineptness and carelessness. Again. But here is one key difference: Unlike last season, coaching is not the problem. Any casual fan could tell in 2006 that the play-calling was unimaginative. The ball was never going to the right places.
That’s not so in 2007. Kiffin and new offensive coordinator Greg Knapp are giving the players opportunities - which they merrily squander.
So what does Kiffin do next? Hmm. Can’t wait to see. He talked Sunday about practicing at a faster tempo, emphasizing concentration. We’ve heard that before, from other Raiders coaches. Kiffin is approaching the first great watershed moment of his Raiders coaching tenure. After Sunday’s defeat, he did not quite cross the line into “we’ve got to be the dumbest team in America” territory, which was the memorable quote uttered by former Raiders coach Bill Callahan. But Kiffin veered close to the Callahan cliff.
For example, with a kickoff at noon local time, the LP Field customers were hardly drunk and raucous - so the false-start penalties were even less justified.

“I didn’t even think the crowd was a factor until late in the game,” Kiffin said. “It was kind of a late-arriving crowd. There’s no excuse to be made.”
For another example, Kiffin more or less defended quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who had a borderline horrendous game. Culpepper frequently threw the ball at receivers’ feet, was a victim of five sacks, saw five passes tipped by onrushing defensive linemen, fumbled four times (losing one) and threw a rainbow lob of an interception. Normally, this would be license for a coach to either rip his quarterback or say something harmless like, “Daunte had a bad day at the office.” But when offered the chance, Kiffin refused to blame Culpepper for much. He pointed the finger at other Raiders.
“Daunte wasn’t false-starting,” Kiffin said. “Daunte wasn’t hitting people in the back and doing the holding. Daunte didn’t drop the last pass.”
No, that drop was by wide receiver Mike Williams. He juggled and lost a fourth-down pass that would have given the Raiders a first down at the Tennessee 16-yard line with 1:21 remaining.

In addition to that botched play, Kiffin implied, most of Culpepper’s problems could be traced to those breakdowns by the offensive line - and those flags. Definitely those flags. Four Raiders linemen committed at least one penalty, continually placing the team in long down-and-distance situations. The worst offender was tackle Barry Sims (three false starts and a hold).

“It’s just lack of focus, I guess,” Sims said. “The team counts on me to do the job and when you screw it up, the job doesn’t get done. I feel bad that I let my teammates down. But we’ve just got to regroup.”
Nice of Sims to apologize. But as a professional, isn’t he paid to have focus so that he doesn’t have to apologize?

Watching Sunday, it also became apparent why we are not seeing rookie quarterback JaMarcus Russell on the field, despite clamors to give him a chance with the team going nowhere. If you read between the lines, Kiffin plainly doesn’t want Russell out there behind a line that apparently can’t block without cheating, throwing to receivers who apparently can’t catch a pass in the clutch.

“JaMarcus will play when we feel he puts us in position to win,” Kiffin said again Sunday. That might be next season, when the Raiders can find some better linemen and receivers.
They’d better put down the crayons and start paying better attention. Otherwise, they’re going to color their way right off the roster.

  89. Vicki Says:

Cautious you live in the past, I live in the present. You asked me if I played sports or if I worked so I answered your question is how that got into the conversation.
Those men are dead and buried that you mentioned and that was certainly a different time a and place.
Al is raking it in from no overhead, even though Forbes puts the Raiders value at around 890 million the Cowboys and their new stadium to come are at 1.5 billion (more than the Yankees). The Raiders are second behind the skins with disposible income according to the same article. Al is raking it in but he sure the hell isn’t spending it on free agents, I mean DR? and we even want to cut him according to some rumors.

  90. TommyB Says:

    I like your rant ChadE.
In Kiff we trust for at least 2 more years.
Al’s not going anywhere so quit compaining about him - It’s his show to run.
TG we got rid of Lombardi (he’s a rat - traitor anyway)
Hated to see Allen and Gruden go.

I say we sign all the players from the Patriot and Colt practice squads and get some fresh faces in here. Forget that lets just cut everyone. :-)

  91. Chris in NY Says:

    Huff 24,
Al Davis is the Raiders. He’s been there from the beginning and the entire Raider persona springs from A.D.
The Patriots are great right now, no question, but please don’t compare Robert Kraft to Al Davis:
    – Kraft is known for shafting players who played their hearts out for the team. Al Davis is probably the most generous owner in the history of the game in looking out for players past and present.
    – Al Davis is a true original, a football genius with a larger than life personality. Kraft is a credit-hogging CEO with the personality of congealed clam chowder.
    – If there were a Mt. Rushmore of the NFL, Al Davis would certainly be on it. Robert Kraft could pay admission to see it.

  92. gtown1_sj Says:

I usually give Kiffin hell, so now I will give him props. Manning up and cutting his boy Williams shows he’s on point about the realistic abilities of players. I don’t think that drop in Tennessee was the only factor to Mike being cut, but it sure looked like it was the nail in the coffin for him.
To me personally, even though Brayton is light in the ass on runs, he was a decent pass rusher, and maybe he can create some havoc in there on passing downs. One of our biggest problems is turnovers, and if we can create a pass rush, maybe we can start getting turnovers again.

  93. Vicki Says:

it’s not rocket science but this would be a good start to “fix the raiders”
    1. hire new scouts and a good GM
    2. bring some consistency. Stay in one place for more than 10 years. have the same coach for at least five with the same staff.
    3. trade your high top five draft pick for multiple lower ones, one guy is not the savior. with those picks get a team that can control both lines of scrimage and a WR
    4. bring in quality free agents who are team players not me players
    5. stay away from draft picks who like to smoke pot or worse

  94. Chad E Says:

Oh, and for Vicki, you say they haven’t done anything since bringing in Gannon. So which QB’s were you jockeying for the last 4 yrs. What gems did you have coming in to save the day?

Al showed that he is sick and tired of losing by drafting JaMarcus Russell. Kiffin and Al, and maybe even Goodell, at some level, decided signing Russell on time was not that important. Since we ended up paying him the money that didn’t look real great, I admit.

Even though Al did that, and nobody has seen JaMarcus throw a pass or shed a tackle or run for a first down, everyone is jocking about AP, or CJ, or anyone who we passed up who is not on the bench!

Double standard! I was shouting from the rooftops about JR, finally Al admits we need a franchise QB to get where we need to go! Do any of you really think that anyone outside of the Patsies, Colts, Cowboys, or Packers has a chance to be in Glendale, Arizona come February? I’m not talking about freak things like injuries to one of those teams QB’s.

Russell will play before this year is out, and next year he will be coming out of the gate, his team for as long as it takes to get it done. Unless he busts. It is definitely a possibility, it always is with QB’s, but don’t forget what the draft pundits were saying about JR.

They were actually frothing at the mouth about him. Watch the youtube stuff out there if you need a pick me up. The future is coming, and when he starts taking over games, and winning, I want all the chicken littles to come out and kiss AD’s walker wheels.

Let’s see Russell before we throw in the towel on our current Raiders, and where they are headed. Believe me, if Russell is a bust, I will be the first to come in and point it out. I pray he is everything we hope, and that SB rings will be won because of him, but if he doesn’t have it, I’ll admit we blew it.

Russell is the face, the future, and the hope of the franchise. He may not step up under center and strike fear immediately, but HELL, maybe he will. Why not us, after all the suffering we have been thru? We’ll all see him soon enough, in fact, if we lose to the Texans, it will be BERY SOON.

    JUST GET RUSSELL READY BABY!!!!

  95. K-Rock Says:

If the Patriots win the Super Bowl again this year, they will have more rings than the Raiders. Think about that for awhile.

While Al Davis is getting put on Mt. Rushmore, Robert Kraft will be getting his team on the Lombardi Trophy.

If that doesn’t piss you off, you are not a true Raiders fan.

  96. SouthTexasRaider Says:

    great post chad e.

F#CK ALL THE AL HATERS AND ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT ARE FANS BASHING HIM ON THIS SITE!!!!

  97. Chris in NY Says:

    Vicki,
The free agents in this past off-season market were ridiculously overpriced. I was happy that the Raiders showed patience for once and didn’t screw themselves for years to come by getting new toys who would take up cap space in the long run.
Justin Griffith, Cooper Carlisle, Jeremy Newberry, Cornell Green, Culpepper and Rhodes were our biggest free agent signings. All were moderately or bargain priced. Thankfully, they didn’t go out and make Nate Clements the highest paid defensive player in the league or anything like that.

  98. Einstein Says:

    Vicki -
Cautious Optimist is a moron, don’t sweat him.. he is still very upset that his daddy wasn’t there, to change his underwear, and take him to the fair. So it’s everyones fault he is mad at his dad. He is probably a woman hater too.

  99. K-Rock Says:

As for the NFL Mt. Rushmore…

Make a request with Jerry Jones, he might add that attraction at the Jerry World Stadium he is building for the Cowgirls down here in TX.

The Raiders are still playing with dirt on their infield.

  100. TommyB Says:

Vicki, that’s a tough question to ask as there are too many variables to give you an answer.
HOF recent day… Not all teams have a Favre, Manning, Harrison, LT to contribute for one team for a long period of time. Players skip around the league now a day with free agency as it is. The current roster is too new to gauge you would have to wait 10 years to give an answer. Lets hope that Jamarcus, Namdi, Huff, Miller and co can get there one day.

You said exclude Brown – Players that played for the Raiders that will be in the HOF or HOF caliber
Neither of which will go in as Raiders, but.
Sapp (although he is long in the tooth and his best days where is Tampa)
Rice (same, but I felt he had another year left in him when he left)
Moss ( I can’t stand him because he showed no heart in S&B)
Rod Woodson (Played great as a Raider)
Lincoln Kennedy (A stretch but it might happen)
None of these players will be in as Raiders, but were on the team.

  101. Raiders Fanatic Says:

Russell ain’t gonna get away with the stuff he’d did in college. The “jump balls” ain’t gonna be there in the pros, he gotta sit and watch, that’s how he’s gonna succeed. The Raiders need to re-establish the run game. An injured Jordan ain’t gonna help too. I get Bush in there ASAP. Just pound the ball, give Rhodes his carries, and let Fargas run the outside, at this point and time we’d got nothing to lose. This will open the passing game again… whether it’s short or long.

  102. Chad E Says:

Great post Vicki….you just fixed about 24 teams in the NFL, you deserve a vacation.

Jeez, this isn’t Fantasy Football, name some freakin’ names!!!!!

Oh, and BTW, I thought I explained the fact we don’t have a GM position available, it’s called football administration on the teams’ site. The names listed are: Nick Beach, Matt Capurro, Peter Carracho, Tom Delaney, Mark Jackson, Michelle Martin, Rich Rose, George Streeter, Rich Snead, obviously in alphabetical order. Oh, and Amy Trask is listed under Administration, not Football Administration. At least two of those guys are Kiffin’s guys, maybe more.

    JUST GET RUSSELL READY BABY!!!!!

  103. Raiders Fanatic Says:

The Raiders gotta take more shots downfield. We’d score 7 points in 51 seconds against KC. Then, what happen the next game, we’d play the same old predictable offense, just keep taking shots downfield and stretch it! Lane need to know this ain’t college level defense, the defense in the pros adjust every play you’d call and knows what’s coming. They keep packing it in against us for short passes.

  104. K-Rock Says:

Didn’t the Raiders just hire the former GM of the Titans?

  105. Chad E Says:

Vicki, funny how you left Richie “5 ints” Gannon off your HOF list….

Guys no better than a top 2nd tier QB who went thru at least 3 teams (Vikes, Redskins, Chiefs) before he latched on with the Raiders and found a scheme which was Gannon friendly.

Guarantee if you ask Gruden what he thinks of Gannon he would use the words great competitor, hard working perfectionist, but the would not say Gannon was a “great QB”, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Gannon deserved a SB ring from Tampa for that Super Bowl, with an assist from Callahan for not throwing deep from the start to throw Gruden off! But Hell, Gannon probably would have checked down from those “big throws” anyway. Mr. play it safe and look good, NOT that time Richie baby!!!

    JUST GET RUSSELL READY BABY!!!!

  106. Memo Says:

Happy Halloween Raider Nation! This team is built around the running game. I have to give Kiffin credit for sticking to the game plan. I beleive he knows that this team can’t take shots downfield because we all saw how the O-line can’t hold their blocks long enough to give the QB time, & the receivers aren’t that talented. Maybe I am wrong & will like to hear your opinions

  107. New Mexico Raider Says:

If you all our going to bash Mr Davis for all the bad stuff thats your opinion. But also give him credit for the good stuff. Picking up Sapp who is the leader of that young D. Picking up D.Burgess, Morrison, Thomas, Namdi, Routt, Miller, Curry, and hopefully JR. Sorry Vic, I respect your opinion but every owner is making big bucks. We have picked up some good free agents I along with most everyone else thought Moss was a great pick up. Burgess, Sapp. Just remember if your goiing to place blame look on the other side and also give some credit. Also Al made Gruden and Allen. They didn’t need Al after they made a name for them selfs.

Win,lose or tie Silver and Black till I die.

  108. Terrapin Says:

re JRussell - I remember watching that ND game, which was the first time I saw JR play. I was salivating - wishing - hoping - he comes out that year’s draft (even though I liked AW, but I could see JR was emmensly more talented). I saw him then as being a perfect RAIDER with his monster arm and monster pyshic - staight up intimidating - that “off the bus” intimidation.

I wavered a little bit though before the draft. I wanted AP b/c I just thought he was Gauranteed HOF - unlike a qb which was a bigger risk historically. I didn’t get what I wanted buy I’m not saddened either. I hope JR will be a geat qb for us and if he is he’ll be much more valuable than AP would ever be. I think we just need a reminder of why we got him. Missing the preseason didn’t help. We need to see this guy in action!

  109. Terrapin Says:

My impression of the deal he got though was that he didn’t get what (speculating writers) believed his agents was asking for. He got like $27.5mm (I think) guaranteed, which is in-line with what CJ got. It was reported that his agents were asking for high or mid 30s. AD gave him “soft” gaurantees based on playing time/accomplishments that made the deal reach over $30mm, but he may never get these “soft” gaurantees so I don’t count them as gauranteed.

In other words I think AD stuck to his guns and got what he wanted more or less. I also think there was the main argument of bonus allocation or type of bonus, which JR didn’t get.

  110. TommyB Says:

ChadE …. You might say that Callahan was the dumbest coach in america for that game. He didn’t change anything and Gruden knew exactly what he and Gannon were doing. OBTW so did the Tampa D.

  111. SouthTexasRaider Says:

when you see clips of john lynch running off the field towards gruden telling him that he (gannon) did exactly what you said he would do……we had no chance.

  112. TommyB Says:

New just in ….. Grady Jackson signs with the Jags. Old man Grady should have signed with the Raiders due to G Warren being injured and Run D non-existent. I think Del Rio knows a thing or 2 about defensive players. His defense is always good and he cut Darius at the rught time just after sucking all the good football out of him.

  113. Vicki Says:

I am not big on drafting QB’s I would have preferred Brees and I admit I am not a JR fan until he proves something. I was hard on JR for not signing but I now know that he would have lost the respect in the locker room had he done so.

  114. Raider Glory Says:

Chad.E!!………I LOVE your posts man……I really do. It’s obvious the Raiders are looking better than they have in yrs. Up ti’l now, with all the Al Davis bashing in here. I have not heard anyone bash him for picking Kiffen as our coach…..hhmm!! I wonder why?? The team is settled at FB(Griffith), TE(Miller), Possibly QB(J-RUSS) and RB(BUSH). Can you guys compare these players with the guys we had last year. It’s going to take time to get us back where we want to be, but wer’e moving in the right direction. Our defense is looking better with some exceptions. The reality is, we have a long way to go, but atleast guys like ART Shell, Norv Turner, and Walsh are not here anymore………….Give Al and Kiffen some time…WE WILL BE BETTER NEXT SEASON and EVEN BETTER THE SEASON AFTER!! Just like wer’e better now than last season!!

  115. Raider0525 Says:

    Vicki,
Sounds like to me that once JR proves himself to you then you will jump on the band wagon and support him like we are doing now. Sorry hun, you have to feel the excitement of this guy…he’s the real deal, he’s a Raider and hopefully he’ll be able to prove himself to you. Got to be a believernow not later

  116. Beth Says:

    Vicki -

You make me sick! You come on here and rant about posters thinking that they know it all and then you proceed to be a “know it all” yourself. You are a walking contradiction honey. Wow you know CPR? Who doesn’t know CPR honey? I saved the life of my 4 year old son with CPR, it doesn’t take much. Plus you are a Yankees fan which is a huge red flag to most of us. Please just shut the hell up before you make us real women Raider fans look even worse than you already have. Your knowledge of football is clearly regurgetated nonsense from ESPN and the like, maybe do a little more research before you open that trap of yours. Until then get to steppin honey, you have nothing to offer this blog but contradiction and ill-informed nonsense.

    Bye honey!

  117. Raider0525 Says:

Beth, Well said. You don’t have to keep saying that it’s because you are a women that people don’t give you respect. Thats crap and I’m glad you said something to her. I don’t care if you are a woman, man, white, black, gay or whatever but when you contradict yourself then thats the problem. Again, thanks Beth for letting her hear it from another women to basically shut the F up.

  118. Beth Says:

    thanks Raider0525

I am usually just a reader not a poster (very busy on a daily basis) but I had to say something. This chick pisses me off every time I see something she has posted. She needs to check herself and realize that she doesn’t know sh!t about football. Like I said she makes the rest of us Raider women look bad. There’s only so much one woman can stand. Give it a rest Vicki.

  119. SouthTexasRaider Says:

    wow!
thats a first on here, this is awesome

  120. KoolKell Says:

Great Posts Vicki, that sexist troll post wasn’t me. I talk football, trolls don’t.

  121. Raider0525 Says:

    Beth,
I try and not judge people on their knowledge of football because some people are more knowledgable than others but that doesn’t make them better Raider fans. She would make some good points but then she would totally f things up by making some stupid statemnts in there, and then thowing in the woman thing…give me a break!!!!!! Maybe she’ll just go away quietly. I don’t post on here a lot either but it is a great site to vent.

  122. Dark Forces Says:

blaqh blah blah blah while the years of loses pile up…

  123. Beth Says:

    SouthTexasRaider -

This isn’t actually a first, I had set Vicki straight a few weeks back. Sometimes you just have to check people and I have had enough of her nonsense. Al Davis IS THE RAIDERS no matter what time period, except for 1960-63. The sooner she learns the better!

  124. Raider0525 Says:

I don’t think you have to agree with everything Al does and he wouldn’t want you to. But my god you have to respect the man for who he is and what he has done for the Raiders. Every organization has their ups and downs and I STRONGLY believe that TRUE Raider fans stay with their team through it all….That’s how you judge whether you’re a true Raider fan and not by how many facts and stats you know about the team, and I’m not knocking the fans that know all of that great information, I just wish I could reatain all of it…But I still live and breathe for the Raiders!!!!!!

  125. Raiderman Says:

Hey Jerry, we haven’t had practice update yet this week!!! What is going on!!!????

  126. Chad E Says:

Vicki, you finally dropped a name I agree with. Brees is a MAN. Remember though he was slightly damaged goods with the rotator cuff injury.

Who took a chance on Brees….Sean Payton, yeah, the same Sean Payton who was supposedly offered the HC job, then went out and bought a Raider tie, then cooled to the idea when he was offered an Assistant HC des from Parcells. Believe me, Parcells knew where his offense would go without Payton.

So once again a coach turned down the Raiders because we can’t get anyone to come here to deal with Big Al, right? WRONG, and Sean Payton is a helluva coach. He still will regret not coming here after dealing with Benson for a few years, or when he sees Kiffin holding that Lombardi up.

See, I don’t hate Al cause he didn’t get Payton, I respect him for giving that cat his first HC interview, just like Gruden, just like Kiffin. From what I see and hear from Kiffin, he may be the most consistent of those 3 guys.

All that said, I wouldn’t take ANY QB in the NFL, other than Manning, over Russell right now! Yeah, I mean every word of it. Too much potential for this young man, and believe Kiffin will give him every opportunity to succeed!

    JUST GET RUSSELL READY BABY!!!

  127. Silver-n-Black666 Says:

Raider0525 Great point about Al Davis

  128. Raider0525 Says:

Hey, I’ve been a friggin fan since 1999, and I know WTF Al Davis has done for this team.

  129. SouthTexasRaider Says:

i feel ya, but i musta missed last week.
    and you are right…..

Al Davis is the Raiders……..He is the organization.

  130. Einstein Says:

    SouthTexasRaider-

Times are a changin… I am actually agreeing with you. “Al Davis is the Raiders… He is the organization”.. That comment states it all. This organization has the makings of Al Davis, now, and forever. If anyone thinks they way this organization runs will change when Mr. Davis passes, you are crazy. This team will ALWAYS have the look and feel of Al Davis. If you don’t like it then quite honestly why are you a Raiders fan? The Raiders are Al Davis, and Al Davis is the Raiders.

  131. Scottish Raider Says:

Last season’s debacle was a turning point for Al. It was the realisation that things had to change on the field and off the field. It was the realisation that Al needed to delegate more and use his experience to support and not to interfere. A quiet revolution is happening in Alameda. It will take a couple of seasons, but Kiffin and Mark Jackson will eventually modernise this organisation and make it fit for the modern football era.

Al is a legend. Al is a hero. Al is father to the Nation. And Al is smart enough to know when the time is right to stand back and let others take the strain.

Lane will make mistakes. The path to greatness will be long and difficult. But we will get there and Al will get another SuperBowl ring before he is cut from life’s roster.

    The Nation. Together. Stronger.

But first, lets barbeque them Texans!!

  132. SouthTexasRaider Says:

Listen, Al Davis owns this team and he can run them into the ground if he wants to, so there, if you don’t like it, go piddle yourself.

  133. Raider0525 Says:

I have a feeling this is Vicki posting as me lol, not really I know she wouldn’t do tha, I was just kidding Vicki

Hey, I’ve been a friggin fan since 1999, and I know WTF Al Davis has done for this team.

But I wont address it anymore, thats what this person wants me to do and people can tell the difference and the obvious age difference between us….oh well

I think we have a great shot at winning this sunday even with all the problems we have. I don’t think we are going to start to fall apart. This yr is so much differnt than last yr.

  134. Einstein Says:

This might sting a bit, but, bashing Al Davis is the same as bashing the Raiders. You can certainly disagree with him, but to hate him, bash him, wish he was gone etc, is just plain Raider hatred. The Raider Nation doesn’t need fans like that, so if you don’t like it, go root for the Patriots, or the Chargers, or the donkeys….

  135. KoolKell Says:

Raiders 138 wins, 151 lossess since the dawn of Free Agency in 1989, countless coaches, Einstein trolls, priceless.

  136. SouthTexasRaider Says:

    your right einstein.
also, anybody that knows football cannot discuss raider football without al davis being mentioned.

we need a win bad, it would boost confidence and moral in the raider nation.
at this point i just want to see some games that end with us winning no matter who is playing.

  137. KoolKell Says:

Einstein, you aint the boss here. I’ve forgotten more about the Raiders than you’ll ever know Nobody actually hates Al, except maybe MaddenRaider. We just want to win.

  138. KoolKell Says:

Einstein what with the juvenile homo humor, troll?

WTF does that mean? You have forgotten more about the Raiders? WTF exactly have you forgot, or did you forget? I simply don’t understand that comment, but, I never understand your useless dribble anyway… You are like a pms laden woman, always ornery, always whining, and very emotional.

  141. Einstein Says:

Seems as if KoolKell is the imposter. Troll beyatch.

  142. KoolKell Says:

Einstein Troll, You also reveal your problems with women, too bad for you. Now I get the homo humor. Dude you need to respect yourself, you’re pitiful.

  143. Raider0525 Says:

maybe he’s the one going on as other people…how much fun is that? whatever floats your boat I guess.

  144. SouthTexasRaider Says:

people that have the time to post under other names is pathetic.

  145. KoolKell Says:

    RaiderFanForever, you dislike me :-(

I’m sooooo sad, maybe you can straighten the blog out about me. Knock yourself out.

  146. Chris in NY Says:

Jerry, any chance of a surprise start by J-Russ this week, or is that just wishful thinking?
From a business standpoint, I doubt the Raiders will want to fly under the radar with Russell’s first start at home, since it would be sure to sell out the Coliseum. However, Kiffin likes to be sneaky with his QB decisions, so maybe there is hope we’ll see JaMarcus “Big Gun” Russell this weekend.

  147. Einstein Says:

I couldnt agree more RaiderFanFOREVER. Someone is posting with my name, and all this didn’t start until KoolKell started to post. This gets really tiresome.

  148. no more infield Says:

Back to the team. What happens if we activate Bush. We don’t need four running backs. Maybe we should IR Jordan. He has been useless since he went down with the back injury… What happened to J. Holland? I thouth he had some potential. Is he on the practice squad?

  149. Jimi Hendrix Says:

Excuse me while I kiss the sky!

    OK done.

I just had a vision Raider Nation. While invoking the spirits through my intake of mescaline I have been given a message from a man named Eric Turner. His message is:

“The Raider Nation is about to embark on a wonderous journey filled with utter joy, stemming from the pain and dues that have been paid since 2002. Be patient Nation. The glory of victory is within your reach. Fear not, just due will be paid accordingly.”

I was compelled to let you all know what Eric had to say after I came down off the mescaline. It’s important for everyone to know that there is a reason for all of this nonsense. Are you experienced?

When I first wrote “Purple Haze” it was originallt titled “Silver & Black Haze” but my record company forced me to change it. I’m with you Nation.

  150. Einstein Says:

    no more infield -
I would like to see LaLame on IR. I can’t stand that guy, he is a waste of roster spot, and I truly believe he brings this team down. Lets get Bush in there and see what the kid can do.

  151. Raider0525 Says:

KoolKell, hmmmmm….more enemies than friends!!!! saya alot. We need Jerry to step up and do something about this.

  152. no more infield Says:

don’t forget to put on your depends before your nap. wouldn’t want to soil the back seat of that 64 chevy nova you live in…

  153. RaiderFanFOREVER Says:

I am actually somewhat entertained by the person who goes by KoolKell and is constantly talking crap. The idea of such a loser makes me laugh. I’m sure he does things way more idiotic then what he does here in other aspects of his life.

he cracks me up because he thinks he’s so clever. Yet has never impressed anyone with his wit.

I think it’s safe to assume he is a very lonely sad man. Not interesting, to say the least. And wonders why he has not real friends, not the kind that arent constantly picking on him and making him the butt of all thier jokes. Girls just laugh at him and sex is unknown territory for sure.

i’m sure once he gets laid, he will put this all behind him.

  154. no more infield Says:

maybe we should all pitch in and buy him an inflatable doll he can keep it in the trunk of his house

  155. Raider0525 Says:

    RaiderFanFOREVER,

If we wait for him to get laid that could be a long time..who the hell would do that except for a hooker

  156. RaiderDogg Says:

Let me start by saying that KoolKell and I haven’t always seen eye to eye, but I have gained respect for him over the last few weeks. I also don’t think it is KoolKell that is trolling, but i could be wrong. KoolKell almost always talks about football and usually has a valid point of view. I honestly think that our old friend “Charger” is back based on the “myopic, faider nation” mantra that Charger continually spews. As I said before I could be wrong, but “Charger’s” m/o is to cause in-fighting amongst us and he is succeeding. So lets get over ourselves and get back to some Raider football!

BTW thanks Jimi! You were an amazing man and guitar player. Thanks for all of the good music that you left behind.

    Raiders for Life…I’m In!

  157. no more infield Says:

Why do some names appear in red? Does that mean it’s an imposter perhaps?
