What to expect from Russell
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, December 1st, 2007 at 5:10 pm in Oakland Raiders.
If Daunte Culpepper doesn’t play, and Josh McCown performs as he has throughout the season, the bonus for Raiders fans which made the game a sellout will be the possibility of extended playing time for JaMarcus Russell.
Unless the smoke signals and special Raiders decoder ring have failed, Russell should make his debut Sunday when the Raiders host the Denver Broncos at McAfee Coliseum.
If the plan Lane Kiffin gave to the media in recent weeks was legitimate, Russell, under the guidance of offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, has worked hard on perfecting the execution of a call sheet which plays to his strengths and designed to exploit weaknesses on the Broncos.
If Culpepper’s right quadriceps responds to treatment and he ends up starting, Russell’s appearance could be little more than a cameo _ play a series or two, then take a seat.
In the last two games, Culpepper has gone a long way toward re-establishing himself as a viable NFL quarterback heading into a free agency year. He put up good numbers in Minnesota against the Vikings, and in a 20-17 win over Kansas City exhibited the skill to manage an error-free game in which he also hit big plays at crucial times.
If the Culpepper of the last two weeks plays, and isn’t adversely affected by the lack of practice time, getting Russell more than 10 snaps could be difficult, assuming the Raiders play the Broncos as close as they did in Week 2.
As Herm Edwards once said, “You play to win the game.” (Admittedly, Herm had a funny way of showing it last week by the way he presided over the fourth quarter for the Chiefs).
A sharp and efficient Culpepper makes it tougher to give the rookie extended time, because the more Russell plays, the more liable he is to come up with a big mistake. It’s simply part of the learning process, and all young quarterbacks go through it.
If Culpepper is inactive, and McCown is the starter, Russell could end up getting 20 or more snaps, depending on how the game plays out.
Despite Kiffin’s best laid plans, it’s an understatement to say McCown hasn’t worked out. He’s been injury prone and error-prone. He probably played his best game in Week 1, when he led the Raiders to three consecutive scoring drives and completed 30 of 40 passes for 313 yards but had three crucial turnovers in a 36-21 loss.
There has been no evidence that McCown is capable of starting amid a powerful cascade of boos, and with cool efficiency, running and passing the Raiders to a high quality offensive performance.
Based what we’ve seen so far, it’s more likely he’ll continue to struggle, the boos will get louder, and Russell will trot on to the field to a standing ovation. Anything positive will be greeted with wild enthusiasm. The first time he winds up and overthrows a wide receiver 50 yards downfield will draw cheers. Mistakes, for the time being, will be overlooked.
And when Kiffin re-inserts McCown after Russell has exhausted his mini-playbook, it will probably be the loudest booing directed at the home team in the history of the facility.
But what happens if Russell starts well? Leads the team to a field goal or touchdown? Appears cool, composed and on top of things?
Then Kiffin has a decision to make. He can either stick to the plan, get Russell out of the game and start preparing him for a slightly larger call sheet against Green Bay, or he can deviate from the script and leave him in the game.
Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said they knew Vince Young was ready by the way he played when they played him in the second half of a one-sided loss to the Chargers.
Rather than have a few pet plays, Fisher said, offensive coach Norm Chow simply called plays from the call sheet without restriction. In essence, he was saying, “OK, rookie, let’s see what you’ve got.”
If Culpepper is in the game, the chances of Kiffin doing the same thing with Russell would seem less than with McCown in the game.
I’ve maintained since Russell’s holdout lasted through training camp that if the rookie ended up playing signifcant time this year, it means another season has gone south.
We’re just about there.

It’s about time!
December 1st, 2007 at 5:17 pm
This is going to be interesting.
Thanks Jerry.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:20 pm
I hope if he does play the same does not happen. All the players in their first game lost, either starting or as a reserve.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:31 pm
Russel will start. This week’s ploy by Al & Kiffin was meant to blindside the Broncos & the Media to give JaMarcus his best chance to win.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:33 pm
Thanks for the goodies Jerry.
Go Raiders!
December 1st, 2007 at 5:41 pm
I pray for the day JR will play.Win or lose it’s the only way. Play McClown and Ill be down, because he is so F’in gay.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:43 pm
I’m gonna chip in on this quickly. The
December 1st, 2007 at 5:49 pm
If Russell does start, it means that Big Al still runs the show, & would validate JMac’s comment about the “super secret meeting”.
If Russell only plays a few series, the crowd will erupt just as JMac described.
I think DC will start, JRuss #2, and McCrap #3.
Poor Andrew…he sitting around collecting dust only to have the #3 job next year.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:50 pm
Wow, sorry about the last post everyone. I wanna chip in on this quickly. The TWO REASONS WE WON in KC last week were PRIDE AND POISE. Yeah I know, don’t give me slogans. But listen to this:Those players went out there with an inordinate amount of personal pride in themselves, their game, their coaches, and their game plan, and then when things started to go seriously awry, everyone, coaches, players, subs, all displayed a LOT OF POISE. Right now, amongst the posters here, I am not seeing a lot of pride and poise. Personally, I don’t care WHO they hoist out there. If it’s McCown, Culpepper, Walter or Russell, frankly I don’t care. The put a Raider Charger on over their pads, and I am with them. Secondly, we’re gonna win this game. Composure will win this game. It came one tenth of a second from winning the last time.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:54 pm
Kiffin should realize that any sighting of McCown will bring a torrent of boos. Not just demoralizing to the fans and McCown himself, but to each every member of the Silver and Black squad. Allowing JaMarcus to get on the field will energize everyone, including the defense which will bust it even harder than usual to hold up their end and to have Russell’s back should he offer any mistakes.
December 1st, 2007 at 5:57 pm
Yes Oakglenn, pride and poise are factors but in human psychology there are many other nuances as well.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:10 pm
M of course he realises that. The question is what good does a torrent of boos onto your own players accomplish??? Tell me, in the course of human events and human psychology, as you brought up, give me ONE CONCRETE example of ONE HOME TEAM OR PLAYER, that excelletn while a waterfall of hometown derision cascaded onto that team or player. I can give you COUNTLESS EXAMPLES OF THE CONTRARY. Tell me, I’d love to know.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:12 pm
THE POSITIVE SIDE OF STARTING MCCOWN is that Daunte will not be able to play…Meaning Russell will be the 2 and if Mccown gets hurt, Russell will play…The odds of Mccown getting hurt…Take the over!!
BORN IN!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:13 pm
McCown is a devote Christian so this whole thing has a christian and the lions at the Roman Colosseum feeling to it. I don’t like McCown as a QB, but I don’t thing we should ever boo a Raider. Jamarcus will get his chance tomorrow, but we should never boo anyone who puts on the Silver and Black. Sorry, just my opinion.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:14 pm
Coach on Wheels
I’ve been trying to respond to your post for quite a while now, but this blog doesn’t post my comments. So I’m going to try it piece by piece.
*************
I forgot to respond to your last post. You can understand my distraction. This is what you ended with: “It is almost as if we have no every down D-linemen.”
That statement rings true to my ears. Our D-line predominately consist of pass rushers. That could and is proving to be a big problem. Its also something I worried about before the season began, but never opined on it (I thought Sands would perform better - stupid thought in hindsight - the biggest David Copperfield I’ve ever seen).

COW - I forgot to respond to your last post.
DE - DBurgess - predominately a pass rusher
DT - Sapp - wreaks havoc - not known to be run stuffer - still like em tho
DT - Warren - his game is akin to Sapp
DT - Sands - David Copperfield in disguise - you’ll see when he reappears
DE - Clemons - strictly pass rusher insofar - too light to hold his own vs run
DE - JRich - he’ll get better - very strong, overpowers tackles w/ his rush (more times than not he’s getting great push vs pass) - better vs run than pass rush at this point
Kelly was prob our best all around defender, an every downer, but he’s on IR.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:16 pm
So there you have it. I have little quams w/ the DEs. Sure they can get or play better but its the DTs thats the main problem imho. They lean towards being better penetrators than run stuffers. And just forget about David Copperfield, he’s invisible anyway. They all are situational players and not every down players as you’ve pointed out.
In MY perfect world the DTs would be GREAT at disrupting the RUN, at least until the LBs get there, while being ADEQUATE at RUSHING the QB. While the DEs are GREAT at RUSHING the QB, and ADEQUATE at stopping/disrupting the RUN, at least until the LBs get there. Some of our linemen seem to tinker too far on one side vs the other. Expect the invisible man, who is just a liability out there at this point, he does nothing but stand there.
But its an intricate puzzle. Where do the LBs performance fit in? Are they playing up to par? Love Morrison and Howard but how are they doing against the run?
December 1st, 2007 at 6:17 pm
I dont understand this blog sometimes Jerry.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:17 pm
“T” exactly, Kirk, thank you!!! Russell is gonna be in there. Everyone relax. Show some poise everyone! Hey Terrapin, FYI, I’ve had a couple of posts not make it either so…….
December 1st, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Good start, or bad start, if JR actually plays, it will give him the chance to experience the feel of a REAL NFL game, this would be a great opportunity for him on what to expect when he becomes the Raiders Top Arm next season.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:23 pm
Rain, he’ll be in there. And he will be greeted with a standing O of biblical proportions. It will be epic, believe me. Now, just win the effing game, JR.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:29 pm
What is the extent of DC’s quad injury? Is it a torn muscle or a deep bruise? Unless DC can’t walk I just don’t see him missing this game. He has come along way and put allot of work into where he is now. I agree with Jerry that his last 2 starts have been more efficient from the game management level. (It certainly helps when Barry Sims isn’t getting flagged every other play).
So lets be honest, would you rather beat ratface and the donkeys or see JR come in for a few snaps or even start. Answer C is both.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:30 pm
This is off topic a little bit, but did any of you see the KC game highlights on HBO’s Inside the NFL this week? You’d never now we won the game, the only highlights they showed were Kolby Smith rushing for 150 and some old guy giving Carl Peterson the rusty trombone. The only play they showed was 52 and 53 stuffing Smith. I mean, C’MON. Who cares about some cheesy band in the KC endzone?
Anyway, Glen, you’re right. We’ve been bitching about McCown/Pep/JaMarcus/Kiffing/Arkansas/Al/ Jerry/Ira all week.
It’s time to get our game faces on, nation. Get ready to see a Donkey show tomorrow, cuz Denver’s about to get f*ked!
December 1st, 2007 at 6:30 pm
Interesting Jerry: Each start or appearance ended in a loss. Well I dont wont to lose. That much is for sure.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:37 pm
John you are exactly right. I think some people here are starting to learn what it really means to be a Raider and your post is spot on. lst off, nobody give us ANY credence. 2ndly, as most of you all now know, everyone effing hates us. So that leaves, all of us together. My job here, as I’ve said, is to make sure everyone here understands, either WE ALL MAKE IT, or none of make it. And we’re all gonna make it. I promise. So let’s show some pride in ourselves and the organization and some poise and composure out there.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:44 pm
My boy throws hard enough to shred fingers to the bone
“”Basically, the end of my finger was like a ‘Z,’ ” he said. “Then I turned it over and there was blood coming down and the bone was sticking out. They reset it, stitched it up and it’s good to go.”
Poor McCown
December 1st, 2007 at 6:46 pm
which one of you guys paid andy to do that?? gotta go.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:48 pm
John S, that’s nothing new when it comes to the Raiders. I see football highlights all the time with fantastic plays put on the Raiders, and I always find myself telling people watching with me that the Raiders did win that game by the way, it’s been a repeated quote for many years. But as for the KC game highlights? Well, they had a rookie RB with so many Holes to choose from that I could’ve sworn I saw a Traffic Cop on the field holding the Raiders off, and signaling him into the end zone, so that was to be expected. Just imagine how many more highlights there would have been if the Raiders lost the game.
December 1st, 2007 at 6:56 pm
Lets all hope tomorow goes well and the Donkeys get their butts handed to them! If JaMarcus makes his first NFL start, that would be great, i hope. Lets go knock the Donkeys out from any playoff chances! IM IN!
December 1st, 2007 at 7:19 pm
What a high risk high reward wait i got tonite.
BAD NEWS - i might have to watch mcclown take another snap for the raiders
GOOD NEWS - i might see russell play some football
how is it that at 3-8 the raiders always have a storyline that keeps us relevant.
good article jerry
GO RAIDERS
December 1st, 2007 at 7:37 pm
Starting McCown AGAIN is gonna DEMORALIZE the entire offense…ala.. KC and Bears game at HOME. Face it, McCown is gonna get the offense SHUT OUT. Start anybody other than McCown. This will gives the Raiders the best chance to win in a close game.
December 1st, 2007 at 7:38 pm
I’d mean Texans and Bears at HOME. My mistake.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:28 pm
McClown is a LOSER…And he will drag the entire team DOWN with him!! He SUCKS and he knows it!! Im tired of seeing his sorry ass lose games for us. It’s the only reason I lose faith with Kiffin!! How can he live and die with this incompetent piece of CRAP!!
I dont think it’s right to booo any Raider, especially at home, but I can see their point. If Kiffin would have went with Culpepper all season, im sure our record would be a lot better.
Kiffin should open his eyes and realize that picking up McClown was a bad idea. I dont see what Kiffin sees in this LOSER!!!
When I see McCown……..I dont see pride & poise………I see PITIFUL AND SORRY!!
December 1st, 2007 at 8:40 pm
McCown is a bad idea gone worse. Play the kid and let’s bring some excitement to the fans , we deserve it after all we’ve been through.
Unleash the beast!!!!!!…………and get a headstart on next season.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:47 pm
unless its not a close game j.russel wont play even if the score is 14 to 7 and the only people who scored was the raiders defense. but i DO REALY WANT HIM TO PLAY. CUT MCOWN
December 1st, 2007 at 8:48 pm
i don’t know why walter wouldn’t get a shot over mccown. he has had poise in the huddle at times and can get into a groove. good news is that if mccown falters, i think they’ll put in ja marcus for a handful of plays and if he does well, keep him in and go with the longer second script of plays. otherwise, look for mccown or walter to finish the game out.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:49 pm
i actualy want dante culpepper to start. and j.russel to be #2. it doesnt matter to me unless mcown or walter is #1 or #2
December 1st, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Anybody hear if T. Henry has been suspended yet? I hear the league is supposed to decide before game time…
December 1st, 2007 at 8:56 pm
t.henry will play i saw on espn.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:58 pm
well, although i’d still like to wait until next agust to see JR on the field, looks like we’re going to see the franchise sunday, i’m sure it will be exciting to us all, and like a few others, it’s just my opinion, but we all know how bad mccown is, but what does it do for the morale of the team to boo him? he’s still a raider, and we still want to beat those dam broncos, so if he’s on the field, be a raider fan, not just a particular player fan
December 1st, 2007 at 9:01 pm
A perfect day would be to kick some jack a$$ rat face. and tom brady’s face if the lose.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:11 pm
This might sound kind of HARSH!!………
If people dont want to hear booos……….Dont play McClown!!
It’s as simple as that!!
Raider fans pay their ticket, and their in their right to booo that CHUMP!!
He SUCKS!!
Go RAIDERS!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:14 pm
i agree 100% with raider glory
December 1st, 2007 at 9:15 pm
Did anyone see the JaMARCUS spot on NFL Ntwrk? Can’t help but love that kid! He took some questions after practice Friday and you get the impression he’s chomping at the bit to play. No disrespect to DC, but I hope Josh gets the start so The BIG Kid not only plays in his first NFL game, but brings the house down with extended play, goes LARGE in every way, and takes it to hated Denver Dong-kay! (think Shrek)
On a side note, I agree with everyone who feels we shouldn’t be booing are own team no matter what, so go easy on McCown, Nation.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:16 pm
culpepper sucks. J.russel is going to suck he is to full of himself. play mcown. MCOWN ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:18 pm
WHAT THE HECK IS RAIDER FOR LIFE THINKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:21 pm
raider for life is obviously intoxicated beyond reason, or either he’s so drunk he somehow finds that funny
December 1st, 2007 at 9:21 pm
C’mon guys!!
STOP it!!
If the DEFENSE was up in the stands with us, they would be booooing right along side with us. The team is not stupid!!! They know and understand that we are not booing them!!!
For Gods sake, if anything they understand us, because I assure you they think the same as us!! McCown is a DISASTER!! If Kiffin really wanted to be honest with himself and everyone else he would play the QB that really gives us the Best chance to win and play CULPEPPER/RUSSELL!!
I still support Kiffin overall, but this crap with McCown is really getting old!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:23 pm
Shanahan must love all this crap. Why not just phone him the game plan?
December 1st, 2007 at 9:24 pm
remember now all you members of the nation. there was once upon a time we wanted
so badly andrew walter to come in and prove himself.hope its not the same.we need to
be patient with JR and give him time before the boos destry him as it has josh.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:26 pm
well said pissed r8tr fan- very well said
December 1st, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Hey Mom tell me Why is McKown with 9 fingers better than Andy with 10. I think your boy tried to break some fingers. Can’t really blame him….
December 1st, 2007 at 9:29 pm
raiderglory-how do you come to the conclusion russell gives us a better chance of winning than mccown? are you basing that on draft status, or his highlight reel? maybe his preseason showing? obviously if cpep was healthy, we’re not having this discussion, but if russell only knows a handful of plays, don’t you think that gives denver the upper hand with adjustments? you can’t run 10 plays for 4 quarters of football and reasonbly think the defense won’t make adjustments to shut it down
December 1st, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Raider80,
ZERO!!!!…………….The Number of games the Raiders have won with McCOWN!!
Enough said!!
Play Russell!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Hey Mom if DC dosen’t play that means that Andy will be the third QB and he will come and win the game for us.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:34 pm
i do agree with you glory.i just dont want our hopes to get ahead of the development of
our future QB
December 1st, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Raider Glory, and everyone else who’s done with McCown… we understand and feel the same pain as you because we are all tired of losing. But let’s show a little respect for the fact that he has given his best, and from what I’ve seen he’s pretty tough and a gamer. We all know he’s not taking us anywhere, but he never was intended to. What boggles my mind is we all should be more pissed about our defense - which is dead last against the run! McCown is not the only reason we’re losing, so if you’re going to boo your asses off, be sure to let the defense know too when they’re on the field, or in the stands.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:38 pm
and if we lose with russell then what? we boo him too? come on…he will be our qb, and we’re going to need him the next 7-10 years, if he’s not ready now, we all are eager to see him and win some games, but because he won on a stacked team at lsu does not mean he’s going to come in the league and start winning games right now. look at the track record of rookie qbs..they don’t win, especially with the limited time he’s gotten due to the holdout. if it takes 5 more games what’s the rush?
December 1st, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Pissed r8tr fan,
Brother, we have to play him sooner or later.
I would much rather Lose with our future and get him some much needed experiance, than Lose with our past!! McCown is not getting any better!! He SUCKS and probably wont be with the team next season!! So what the hell are waiting for!! We have nothing to lose!! Except the game!! And wev’e already had enough losing with McClown!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:39 pm
when the defense gives up all those yards then TDs. any QB is gonna have to take
chances and with our O line, it doesnt matter whos in there. they are gonna blow it
December 1st, 2007 at 9:43 pm
So, let’s say that Russell starts tomorrow. If he struggles in his debut, are most of us going to label the kid a bust, or are we going to give him the time that he needs to develop? I dont know about anyone on this blog, but I know there’s quite a few people out there that thought Russell was’nt worth all the hype, and are waiting so say ‘I told you so’ if he has a bad outing. JMO..
I wont boo McCown if he starts tomorrow, but it’s going to be hard to watch him, and cringe everytime he throws the ball. How in the heck do you dislocate your finger catching a ‘lob’ pass from Walter? Would’nt that mean McCown would have trouble handling the ball from under center? Not to mention the fact that he has stitches in that hand also.
I’m hoping for a win tomorrow to avenge our close loss at Mile High earlier in the season, but I still don’t think that McCown gives us the best chance to win. I’m still hoping that Pep will start, while not spectacular, he made some crucial completions down the stretch to seal the win.
For all of you that will be at the game tomorrow, I’ll be out there in full throat with all of you, cheering this Raider team to a victory. See you all at the HOT!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:44 pm
i do agree glory, im just afraid we will hype this up so much then turn on him if he looses
i want to win sooo fing bad. im hella tired of being the door mat.im not for clown, im
for JR all the way.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:47 pm
glory-i wholeheartedly agree mccown isn’t the anwer, but as you said…russell is here for the long haul, mccown isn’t going to be our qb. let the kid get ready, patience is said to be a virtue..we have been losing for 5 years, and if it takes 5 more games of losing to become a contender again by way of patience, i would much rather 5 games than 5 more years and waiting for another #1 pick to draft another qb
December 1st, 2007 at 9:47 pm
its hard to have patience when loosing is the norm lately, i know
December 1st, 2007 at 9:47 pm
That will 5 games closer to JR being a good QB……This is a great time to slowly work JR into the lineup…..If JR learns to deal with just being a game manager at first that is a great thing….getting a feel for things when the season is not on the line should be taken advantage of as part of his learning process.I think most of us expect a learning curve and he may look great on one play and make us think what the hell is he doing on the next one.As far as hearing a boo hear and there…if he can’t think of 30 million reasons to learn to deal with it he was never what most of us think he is.
December 1st, 2007 at 9:48 pm
but we need to give him a year or two before we really know what hes capable of
December 1st, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Look Guy’s,
I dont Hate McCown, He has a lot of grit!!
If we did’nt have anyone better than him, I would support him…….But we do have better QB’s than him!!! He’s the WORST QB on the Raider Roster!!
Why cant Kiffin see that??
I would even settle for Walter, if only Kiffin can open his eyes and see that!!
Play anyone……But PLEEEEZZZ have mercy on us!!! NO MORE McCLOWN!!!

December 1st, 2007 at 9:53 pm
Raider 80,
What makes you think that the coaches have’nt been getting him ready??
They should have been prepareing him to play since he signed his 60 million dollar contract!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm
i’m with you on not wanting to see mccown glory, trust me..i don’t like his play at qb either, and i’d rather kiffin go with walter myself than rush JR, at least we know walter can manage a playbook and give us 60 minutes, i just don’t want us to rush the rook and end up with a bust, i know it’s hard to wait on him, but waiting may be the best thing for him…if it’s one thing we can all agree on, none of WANT to see mccown play, that’s not my sentiment, just don’t rush the franchsie is my plea…well fellas, i’m off work now, have a great evening…and hopefully monday we will be discussing 2 straight in the division………… GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 9:56 pm
glory- he missed all of training camp…it’s only so much preparing they can do when they have to get the qb who will be on the field on sundays most of the preparation since we still have games to play and are trying to win….trust me, if he hadn’t missed training camp, i would be right there saying play the kid…but he just missed too much time this year
December 1st, 2007 at 9:56 pm
thats what i was trying to say. thanx 1980
December 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm
its been proven that when a QB sits for a year hes more likely to suceed
December 1st, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Raiderwill80,
You make some good points!!
I respect your opinion!!
Russell will be O.K…..He’s not a baby, He will learn from his mistakes!!
Holding him ti’l next season will not guarantee him not making the same mistakes!!
He does’nt need to play the entire game, but I really think it’s time to get a look at him. I bet Russell would tell you he’s ready!! Lets see what he can do!! I PROMISE YOU, I WILL NOT BOOOO HIM!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:02 pm
There are QB’s who didn’t miss a day of training camp, and are still a bust, so that means nothing!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Do you think the Denver D is preparing for a particular QB as much as they are prepping for a healthy dose of Justin Fargas? With that in mind you might as well throw in the kid.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
IDIB,
Very Good Point!!
Lets see what the kid can do!!
I dont expect him to light up the Broncos!!
But you never know……..
December 1st, 2007 at 10:16 pm
pi$$ed r8tr fan - thats common wisdom, but is it really fact? A few off the top of my head that jumped straight into the fire, Elway, Ackman, Montana played his first year but he backed up Deberg , Rothlesberg, Manning.. sure there are many ‘busts’ but it really has so much to do with the team, coaching, Personally, I think with the way the team is JR has benefited from watching. Not just on a play level, but watching the media jump all over Daunte one week for a bad game and than doing a full 360 the next. He needs to learn how not to let that stuff get into his head, and I think DC is pretty grounded and handles it well. Hopefully this will rub off on him.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:17 pm
wow how stupid would it be to start a kid who never took a single snap in the NFL.. that is just completely moronic and makes NO Sense.. but knowing Al Davis.. anything is possible
December 1st, 2007 at 10:17 pm
On a diff subject…….
Wash. is man handeling Hawaii……Just goe’s to show how good the pac 10 is.
21-0 ….1st Quarter!!!
WOW!!
Just too STRONG!! STRONG!! STRONG!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Stu is going to share time with Hiram tomorrow.
I know that will make a lot of you guys happy.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Kirk,
It actualy does’nt!!
Stu has as much business in there at safety as McClown does at QB!!
Those guys should both cast for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN TWO!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:25 pm
Tomycar, it would be stupid indeed to start a KID who never took a single snap in the NFL, that’s why KIDS don’t play in the NFL, they only let Adults play.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:26 pm
Kiffin can not hear your guys’ boos, nor does he care that you’re doing it.
Boo on. He’s staying, like it or not. Al Davis is just smart enough to know that he has no other options.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:33 pm
I think Tomycar is a troll….
This guy is usually a hater but this time he wrote a good article. One thing that’s great about being a Raiders fan, we’re national. Even when we suck, people care:

Did you ever wonder how the MAGI felt the night before they discovered the Jesus? Messiahs come around once in a lifetime. Mark this day on the calender of your life!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Consider it marked. I’m out. See you guys at the HOT tomorrow.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:37 pm
One thing is for sure Raider football has a Buzz about it finially!! God Help Kiffin if He plays McCown the whole game.
Nothing more to add than what’s allready been dissected tirelessly.
Thanks too all; being here has also heightened my intrest in a team I grew up liking because after all they personified bad ass’es and played like it as well!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:39 pm
the one who came before… Is that you Nick Saben?
December 1st, 2007 at 10:40 pm
boo culpepper boo russel chear mcown. i dont care what anyone says but mcown gives them the best chance to win sunday.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:45 pm
Coaches Job- Is to coach
Players Job- is Make plays in tough circumstances
Fans Job- is Cheer, Boo and buy *hit
December 1st, 2007 at 10:45 pm
John S,
Thanks for pasting this article!!
I hope J-Russ does’nt gain anymore weight!!
He’s only 22 yrs old!!
But the guy should eat a salad every once in a while!!
That picture with him and Culpepper says it all!!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:46 pm
I was brought up to believe that you do not boo your team no matter what, yet here we are discussing selective booing is ok….
December 1st, 2007 at 10:53 pm
into deep AKA “In Too Deep - No I am not Saban, but if the ONE does’nt play tomorrow it will be similar to the work of terrorists on 9-11. MARK IT!
December 1st, 2007 at 10:55 pm
IDIB,
Tell me what’s worse??
Booing your team!! or Not buying tickets and supporting the team!!
Which would Al Davis prefer??
Would wearing paper bags over our head be more acceptable???
Besides, the fans are booing McClown….Not the team!!
There a HUGE difference!! You know??
December 1st, 2007 at 10:59 pm
This is what i think is going to happen tommorow josh mcown starting

Come on black… If I’m going to doll out the cash and the powers to be are going to be blatten bone heads, I’m obligated to let them know my frustration.
I not saying forsake your allegiance but they should have some pressure put on them from the people who collectively put bread on their tabels, sort of speak.
December 1st, 2007 at 11:10 pm
In too deep,
Totally AGREE!!
G’nite All,
GO RAIDERS!!
Just Get The Franchise Ready!!!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 11:16 pm
Washington 28, Hawaii 14, less than two minutes left in the 2nd quarter. GO WARRIORS!!!
December 1st, 2007 at 11:18 pm
No disrespect intended, Raider Glory, but when Cal loses to Stanford, it really weakens your argument that the Pac-10 is “too strong…”
I have always liked Hawaii, especially since June Jones took over the program. I will always root for the underdog…I guess that’s one of the many reasons I’m a member of the Nation…
December 1st, 2007 at 11:24 pm
Coaches challenge at the Hawaii game…was the WR inbounds???…and the call is…the catch IS GOOD!!! TOUCHDOWN WARRIORS!!!
This game is FAR from over…
28-21, Washington, going into halftime…Hawaii came back from 21 points down…GO WARRIORS!!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:01 am
Hey one who came before… Pretty funny, had to set up the Christmas Tree
p.s. I cant help but think we’ve met before?
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:04 am
You wanna talk college. Tedsford is to Longshore as Kiffen is to _______. Someone fill in the blank, please.
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:05 am
Sure I get it , we are booing McCown, We are booing Kiffy’s choice to start McCown. But we are there to see our team win and its a team game. Your Boo’s can effect the play of the rest of the team.
Glory, buying tickets to boo is not supporting your team,I know I am distorting your point but I just don’t feel right about it.
Into Deep - hell ya its expensive, and you have a right to do what you want, do you think the ownership responds to boos? If anything they should be reading this blog. Although I bet only about 1% are actual paying customers and thats what they care about. Does anyone remember the last raider game before we left for LA. No One booed. There was a 10 minute walk out. Even though it was the last time we where going to see our team no body went into the Colosseum until late in the 1st.
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:06 am
Your right kirk we should never boo a Raider player. Fans are part of the team also and
can effect the play on the field by booing a player. The attitude spills over onto the field.
I’ve been a fan of this team since the days of Ken Stabler and have seen good days and
bad days as a fan. What I’m seeing now is that it looks like we are heading toward the
good days again with this team. Thats all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEAT DENVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:10 am
Nuff said, all the great disecting of JM play will not change what may happen tomorrow,
I’ll be at the HOT in 5 hours knowing the possibility JR will play.
That alone will be worth my time tomorrow. I won’t boo out loud, who to say I can’t inside.
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:44 am
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=chadiha_jeffri&id=3136444
the two who will lead our team soon. damn they look good in silver and black.
December 2nd, 2007 at 2:29 am
The Nation is tired of this pissbucket being under center!! As much as I want Lane to exel for us as a coach I have to question his assessment of our QB situation. I know the results of a plane crashing into a mountain yet why is it that Lane continues to start Mc when we all have seen the results; a planewreck!!! He just will not give up on making a Gannon out of Josh. Earth to Kiff: You will lose your team and eventually your job if you keep up the insanity. The Nation will be rockin if Russell takes the field and this will boost team morale for they are not stupid. As much as you want them to buy in they will sell out if you start Mc for I know you will keep him out there in hopes of him making a play. I suppose he believes in the tooth fairy as well. WE DON’T HAVE TIME FOR GAMES, JUST WIN BABY!!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 2:34 am
RAIDER FOR LIFE:
SURELY YOU JEST FOR I WOULD LIKE FOR MC TO DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN THROW INTS AND INJURE HIMSELF IN THE HUDDLE. HOWEVER I BELIEVE IN WHAT I SEE AND THAT IS A TOWELBOY WITH THE #12 JERSEY MAKING A MOCKERY OF THE SNAKE AND RICH. PLEASE IF ANYONE ELSE BELIEVE THIS CRY FOR HELP RAIDER FOR LIFE HAS BLOGGED PLEASE RESPOND ASAP. UNTIL THEN, PRAY FOR HIM. THE GREATNESS OF THE RAIDERS
December 2nd, 2007 at 8:07 am

LIKE HIM ” A ” FILTHY PIG “!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE EVEN LOOKS LIKE A WILD BOAR!!!!!!
ANY WAY ALL YOU ROBRYAN LOOSERS !!!! GET THE MOST OF TODAY , YOU WONT LIKE
TOMOROW!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAA!
December 2nd, 2007 at 8:21 am
WHADDA YA GONNA DO WHEN soon to be PROBOWLER QUENTIN MOSES gets 2-3
sacks today vs that looser BRICK ferugeson!!!! ( for most of you whodont know who
” brick” is thats LOT for the jets ! he is terrible !!!but not as bad ROBRYAN)
but one thing is for sure when he
plays against THE ROBRYAN he will look like a H.O.F’R vs that PHONEY DEFENSE RYAN
puts out there!!!!!!!
i’ll call it now TOLLEFSON - HUNTLEY- MOSES ,willahve more sacks today then RYANS’
looser D had last and this week combined !!
they are all playing today,on better
coached defenses then ROBRYANS’ looser systems ! HE IS GOIN DOWN AFTER THE
GAME & NOT ON HIS BOYFRIENDS THIS TIME!!! GONE FOR GOOD!!!!!!HAHAHAHA!!!!1
December 2nd, 2007 at 8:57 am
Let’s keep the AFC West win streak alive, Nation!
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:11 am
I hate Rat Face Shanahan. I want to see him on the sideline with hid little rat tail between his legs… revengeof moses… put down the crack pipe
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:14 am
Shanahan is a putz. I hope we beat them by a last second 64 yard field goal.
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:18 am
revengeofmoses
You write at a 4th grade level.
Typing in CAPS only makes you look like retarded or an emotionally and mentally unstable person.
Big font = crying out for attention or you have a small package.
Lets get back to talking about beating the Broncos today!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:21 am
One time I caught my boss, who I hated real bad, screwing my girlfriend.
Yeah I still hate that guy, but not as much as I hate Shanarat and the Bronc’ Hoes!!
RAIDERS!!!!
Lets keep the win streak alive today!
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:25 am
Is Henry playing today? His appeal of his suspension is getting a little ridiculous, it has been going on damn near all year. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this and make a ruling one way or the other.
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:30 am
I hear that towelboy Mc is on the injury list due to the dislocations as well as a crushed ego. What do we have to lose other than the game with Russell? We know that will happen with Josh. We are evaluating for the future and we know what we have with Josh. This court jester should have be shown the door months ago only that Lane has a mancrush or just feels sorry for him. If that’s the case cut him and pay next month’s car note for him. We have a Committment to Excellence standard to uphold and it starts with Russell cranking up the Nation by doing what he does best, GOING LONG. THE GREATNESS OF THE RAIDERS begins TODAY!!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:42 am
NO PASS RUSH and 32ND RANKED RUN DEFENSE! = 3-8 THIS IS MY RAIDERS ON”ROBRYAN”
#1 IN NFL IN SACKS AND TOP 3 VS THE RUN ! IS MY RAIDERS AFTER “RYAN” GETS
THE GUIOLTINE!!! SHOULD HAPPEN AT ABOUT 830P.M. NEW YORK TIME WIN OR LOSE!
I THINK MY RAIDERS REBEL VS KIFF & RYAN AGAIN AND WIN!!!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:56 am
Man, you guys hate the Broncos!!! Must be hard to be a Raider fan.
You guys should play Russell. That would at least make the game worth watching.
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 am
this game should be like first one , f.g. differerence with whoever has ball
last winning !!!!!!!!!!neither def will make an impact , although denvers pass
rush ,due to better coaching ,has been better!
too bad denver wont subscribe
to ryans methods and play DUMERVILE 8SACKS on the strong side as a everydown
player vs the run!! like ryan does w/ burgess. we could run there on evrydown like
veryteam has been doing to ryan for the last 4 years!!!! other then elvis & baily, williams
denver really has no talent on def but is ranked above us in very category and has a
much better record !!! gee i wonder why? they must really love playing robryan twice
a year this is probably why they dont run up score on us !! so they wont fire him!serious
thats the kind of deviat scumbag shanahn!is a real c??t , just like KIFFIN!! the only problem
is i am stcuk with two c??ts’ ryan & kiffin and dever only has 1 . and they get 2 wins a
year vs ryan !!!!
my raider team has better talent in evefry spot !!! just we have the worst 2 coaches
kiffin & ryan in nfl history!!!! both are suicidal oblivous to reality! and are selfoathing
undermining little cu??S~~~
DUANTeAINT HURT , HE IS BEING USED TO CREATE A
SCENARIO FOR J-ROPP (this is self anointedstreetname”) to easily enter due to
injury not under the need of pressure!!????
montana-young kelly- tarkenton-stabler-
griese-palmer etyc all were given dosesof a game in different parts of the game,
( meaining bring him to handoff, then playaction roll short dump, then throw one deep
down sidleine way in front of reciever then out you go!!!)
this you do once a qrtr! not in fourth if game is close! but no
kiffin is to smart for that !!!
why not bring him in middle of series, handoff then out you
go!!! this will actually put pressure on defense with crowdat its noisiest best!!youll see
kiffin will play games with this guy too!!
he just dont like being questioned about anyhting!
just like a criminal!!!!!
p.s.
i wonder where ryan would play champ bay if he werre on oak!!!! probably everywhere
but the right spot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:22 am
GOOD NEWS!
Charlie Casserlie, on the NFL Today show, made it perfectly clear that Kiffin has never contacted Arkansas nor has Arkansas contacted Kiffin regarding the head coach position. He went on further to state that Kiffin only wants one job which is the one he currently holds that being the HC of the Oakland Raiders. He stated that the Arkansas rumors have absolutely no basis in fact. End of story.
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:22 am
SOULPATROL2
Tell us how you really feel about our coaches and please don’t hold back!
Then come back in a couple of years when Kiffin has this thing humming and post in here how much you love him.
I’M IN!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:44 am
does anyone know who is going to be the starting QB today.
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:49 am
look here devil boy , stop being a self loather#1 , drop the looser nomenclature #2 ,
and stop saying “couple of years” #3 , that goes for all you people !!! TO!
there is only 2 things standing between my raiders bieng 9-2 and atop the west in thier
riteful spot!!!LAME KIFFIN & “ROBRYAN” when you lose close games for a living like we
do this year !!! it gets back to one thing , it is soooo obvious!
if the talent is bad you get
blown out, if the games are clos enuff to win they why aint they!????? COACHING !!!
COACHING COACHNG !!!! AND it isnt top to bottom either ! it is just at the two huge
spots HEAD COACH !!! AND HEAD CaOCH ON DEFENSE!!!! WE GOT THE 2 WORSt IN NFL
HISTORY!!!!
LOOK @ THE MOVES- garcia/feb ,drafting russell ,not starting culpeper vs
detroit!! ( cost us a win there& denver) cutiing boothe over green ,cutting gabriel over
others we have no scary guy @ widouts , even though I LIKE porter/curry/huiggins are goin
to waSte due tO KIFFYS’ feelings about how a offense needs to be run!!!!
then ryans side playing burgess wrong spot,
not using williams / howard as pass rushers(there are 14 saks rite there) keep playing
STU, cutting 4 starting safties( all so stu can have job) getting kelly hurt, cutting
huntley-hawthorne- and playing richardson contantly over brayton (who is the best run
defender @ ends spot we have)
this equals @ our QB spot HAS BEEN/IS a weakness this year! we cant afford
that , who can. bad pass protection @ rot green due to KIFFY cutting boothe, rite there i
can stop and win a case on jsut these, but thers’more.so due to KIFFY we got bad qbs’,
bad pass protection @ both tackles!! and no threat downfield due to cuts and bad play
calling and gameplanning !!!!the run game will work if it is used enuff!vs anyone!!! kiff
has nothing to do with that!!knapp and cable do !!!!
our def has no pass rush due to ryans’ RETARDATION and no run def due to him
cutiing the wrong guys/, and playing guys out of the rite spots, ie-burgess-richardson-
brayton-morrison-huff stu etc!!!! all COACHING !! OR LACK OF IT!!! so we dont need
a couple of years !!!! we jut need a couple of new coaches!!!!! it is that simple!!!!1
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:54 am
on the cbs pregame show it said josh mcown will start. j.russel will be#2 and walter will be #3

Thats what I’m talkin bout Acey40Deuce. All you Raider fans be stupid.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:18 am
Just exactly what is BRONCO POWER?
That’s cheesy out of date neon orange stripe on your sissy pants?
A sub .500 team that’s gets blown out at home?
A coach that looks like a rat?
Please explain to me what your pathetic team has done this year that is so powerful?
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:18 am
FOX news reported DC pulled his groin in race to prove who was the quickest w/DB or other. and McCown will be handing off backwards. Get ready to see some JM and the beginning of the new Raider day. It is a fitting first show for JM since Al has compared him to John Elway in talent and potential. Let’s get some!
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:21 am
FIVE WINS BABY!!! Which is more than you pathetic losers can even dream about. Go Broncos, Go Broncos, Go Broncos!!
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:21 am
and all Bronco fans are pseudo intellectuals with no real clue what the game of football is all about. But boy can you guys salute! Wow.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:21 am
revengeofmoses: Just let it go. I’m happy for Moses if he’s found a home. He seems like a pretty good kid. If you want to criticize Ryan, fine; turn off the caps lock and then lay out your case in a coherent fashion. In case you haven’t noticed, there’s plenty of people around here who would like to see him gone, too. Personally, I’d give him till the end of this year to show some substantial improvement, against the run in particular, and then evaluate him at the ned of the year.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:23 am
wait a minute, is Hob on a Knob Billy actually bragging about being a sub .500 record?! Like I said no real clue what the game of football is all about. What a complete tool!
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:24 am
Bronco fans salute because we are good citizens who love our country, unlike the degenerate draft dodgers, liberal wackos, gang bangers, and illegal immigrants who call themselves Raider fans.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:25 am
Remember when Lynch was in awe after Jano. kick the 54 yarder that missed but hit the top of the up right. He went on to say that he had never seen anyone kick a field goal that long and have it hit the top of the up right. Well get ready my friend cuz today u and all the donkeys will be in awe today when JRuss unleashes the cannon and throws it down field 60+ yards.
Get Ready Nation as the Dawn of a New Era Begins!!!!!
Raiders 4 life - Just like many of us in here - WERE ALL IN!!!

Bronco Bill from Castro Street
I understand your frustration and your lack of a nutsack compels you to post in the Raider forum. But that doesn’t make you smarter or better than us.
Just because you live in the same trailer park as Brittany Spears doesn’t make you an expert on music. Same being said about you being a bronco fan and thinking you understand the game of football.
December 2nd, 2007 at 11:26 am
maybe the Raider fans should spend a little time in Shanarats tanning bed after he straps them onto his lie detector. Lets see a player who gets busted for smoking weed(again) and too many player dui’s to count. Thats a team full of degenrates, losers, drunks, liars and stoners.

It would be nice to JR play, however all I care about is a win against the Broncos. Thanks for posting everyone, I enjoy reading the daily comments.

Donkey Dill from polish the nob hill - Do you think Mike Sha-na-na will have the stones to call a last minute T.O. to steal another game from a team that beat him on the field? We almost beat these losers once WITH McCown at QB. Denver sucks and so do most of their fans. I know - I live among them.
