Raiders say goodbye to Sims
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, February 29th, 2008 at 12:01 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Left tackle Barry Sims, who held off three tackles drafted in the first round who were supposed to take his job, has apparently reached the end of the line with the Raiders.
Sims, according to Bay Area News Group beat writer Steve Corkran, was informed of his release Friday.
Moved to left guard in 2006 by Art Shell, Sims reclaimed his left tackle position in 2007 from Robert Gallery and started all 16 games.
Although Sims had a salary cap figure of a little over $6.8 million, the move clears approximately $200,000 of cap space because of prorated bonus money.
Un undrafted free agent out of Utah, Sims was the longest tenured Raider in terms of service, joining the club in 1999. He played in 136 games with 119 starts.
While Sims was at left tackle, the Raiders drafted Mo Collins in 1998, Matt Stinchcomb in the first round in 1999 and Gallery in 2004 all with the intention of moving out Sims. Sims managed to fight off each challenge.
With Kwame Harris scheduled ot visit Friday, and Sims leaving, the Raiders are investigating ways to shore up the tackle position to better protect No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell, who will go into this season as the starting quarterback.

Whatever helps you sleep at night MR. I’m not afraid to admit it when I make a mistake. But then again it takes a man to know how to do that so you have a ways to go.
I was referring to your quote yesterday when you said “Not 1 FA will sign with the Raiders let alone even visit them.” Sounds like you are wrong doesn’t it? Anyway I don’t have time to go back and forth with a lady like you.
Also I find it strange that Alameda Insider said this:
“And what would I be wrong about if the Raiders sign Gibril Wilson?”. It’s funny because I said that to MaddenRaider not Alameda Insider. Could it be that you are confusing your identities? Thats some good stuff right there.
You’ve been exposed, again!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Does this mean they’re gonna want Kwame to play LT? Is Gallery moving back from guard?
February 29th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Sims may have not been the greatest LT, but getting K. Harris to replace him will be a big mistake. That guy is nothing but a turnstile.

Jerry, can you give us the low down on Cooper Carlisle? Did he really opt out of his contract, and if he did, is there a good chance we can keep him?
Last thing we need is a hole at RG.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
they re going to draft all offence
February 29th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
And goodbye to Jerry Porter too
February 29th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
at number 4 they will take jake long or the kid from boisie st
February 29th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Raiderdogg, you already said that. Read my response in the previous thread, and stop wasting bandwidth, moron.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Porter is gone too. It’s a sad day for me. I was always a fan of his and his circus-like catches.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Jerry
When you get a chance please ask coach Cable to define in detail what he looks for in a ZBS offensive lineman. Ask him to list the skill set in order of importance.
His answer will better help us to understand what to look for rather than the standard best available athlete based on other than ZBS standards.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bu-Bye Barry.
I will never forgive you for the Super Bowl debacle.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I’m glad Sims is gone except for one thing. He was the best left tackle we had…
I was hoping we would cut him after we replaced him…

Raiderdogg, this may be tough for you, Larry, and Moe to deal with, but I am not the only Davis critic here. I am not the only person here that knows Davis’s current managerial antics have ruined us in the free agent market. Somehow, you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that there are a lot of people here saying negative things about your little dark lord. If you want to call all of them “MaddenRaider”, be my guest. In the case of Alameda Insider, I take it to be a compliment. He knows his stuff and he’s been running this place for the past few days. None of you have been able to debate anything he’s said. Your only response to him is, “whaaaaaa whaaaaa, you’re MaddenRaider, whaaaaaaaaaaa!!!”, and it’s not cutting it. He owns this comments section right now. Even Marley is ducking him. And, my best guess is that it’s because he’s already revealed a couple of tid bits suggesting that he truly is an Alameda Insider. He might work in the organization somewhere. So far, he’s spot on, and eating your guys’ lunch.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
MaddenRaider -
I am done with you bro. Say whatever you like, I don’t really care. You slipped up and revealed that you are a fraud. You might want to keep track of all of your lies and aliases, you are starting to get confused.
The only person that believes your nonsense is you. Pretty sad really.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
false start Sims…oh right, best left what? give me a break…need to sack a couple of others on that line who have the inability to know what the word discipline is.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Thank God this was long overdue.
No more dumb looks when Sim’s false starts, at least not on this team.

all the back pedalling in the world will not take away the fact that you revealed on the last blog that you are a fraud. Say what you will, but it is there in black and white for all to see.
FYI - I am a Davis critic myself and I have never once addressed your alter ego Alameda Insider. Get your shit straight moron!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Al Davis, good to see you’re mocking the American worker, again. In real life, I’ve only seen Niner fans mock graveyard shift workers the way that you do. That’s just the truth. Kind of a smarmy, yuppy thing to do. Yeh, I’ll mock people who drink the Davis kool aid, but mock the American worker? Not this American. Never. Too bad you can’t say that.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
RaiderDogg,
No Alameda Insider believes my nonsense too
February 29th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Raiderdogg, you are a glimmer in Al DAvis’s eye. Sure you may throw out a token critique of him to make yourself seem objective, but it doesn’t overshadow the shilling and distracting you do in defense of him and his failed management, 99% of the time you’re on this blog. Nice try.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
I bet the Broncos are hesitant to release Jevon Walker because they know Al would ba all over him, lol. Maybe the insanity goes both ways?

February 29th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Mods or Admin, post number 24 is someone falsely using my screen name. I thought we were done with this, here. Al Davis’s loyal followers in here are very upset right now, because they know people like myself and Alameda Insider are correct regarding our current FA situation, and they’re now taking it out on the blog, by breaking it’s rules. I can take a lot of heat, but people posting under my name is just below the belt. Could you please take action? Thank you.

MaddenRaider why are you even here?????????????? You’ve been discredited over, and over, and over, and over again, constantly. Yesterday you VOWED someone was me, when obviously it wasn’t. Nobody responds to you other than your other little aliases. You’ve been kicked off other blogs, No one wants to hear your lunatic rants, and just so you’re not at all missed, I WILL EVEN TAKE OVER FOR YOU HERE. Here, let me do this for you:
First, I have to look like you, so I’ll dump a bowl of spaghetti on my head, put on a red clown nose, pants around my ankles, unzipp my zipper, good.
Now, here’s my impersonation of MaddnessRaider:
“last 5 year, last 5 years, last 5 years, last 5 years, last 5 years, Al Davis hasn’t done anything, last 5 years, 4-12, 4-12, last 5 years, Al Davis shills, bob marley, 4-12, last 5 years, last 5 years, oakglenn, oakglenn, oaglenn, Davis shills, last 5 years……

“MaddenRaider ever contributing something of substance to this blog? Never going to happen. No “surprise” there.
Guess what MR as soon as Gibril Wilson signs with the Raiders you will officially be wrong again! Not like you would ever admit it.”
Alameda Insider Says:
February 29th, 2008 at 11:56 am
“And what would I be wrong about if the Raiders sign Gibril Wilson? Put the pipe down RaiderDogg”
Can someone explain to me why Alameda Insider would answer a question that I asked MaddenRaider and refer to himself as I, as if I was asking him the question? Looks like MaddenRaider forgot to change his name back before he responded to me.
Like I said MaddenRaider you are a complete FRAUD and there’s your proof!
Also I have never once defended Al Davis or anything about his management. You just continue to make shit up don’t you? Like I said, FRAUD!

Jags signed Miami QB Cleo Lemon…I thought they already had a pretty good backup? Quinn Gray…or is he a FA? He might work as a backup for the Raiders if available.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
200K is all we are gonna clear when we dump Sims ouch…that’s gotta be wrong…someone cook our books or something please…
looks like the Raiders are finally making the move to younger players …for the sake of our rookie QB I hope to works out…
I noticed that even professional writers like Jerry let a few typos slip in once in a while…hahaha
February 29th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Scoresman got a tattoo!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Rogue -
My comment was based on fact that Simms started 16 games for Raiders last year. I respect Cable so far and therefore assume he thought Simms was the best left tackle on the team. That’s why I’m wondering who will take over that role. Of course, I don’t even know who our backup LT is. McQuistan? Henderson?

Al Davis, I’m not a graveyard shift worker. I own my own business and work from home. It’s just that I don’t mock the American worker. It’s such a pretentious, low thing to do. I really think you should take an adult course in American labor, from the post WW2 era to present, to learn just how important the American worker, especially graveyard shift workers, are to the American economy and the middle class. But I do find it sobering to learn that some of the Davis shills seem to take the same high brow yuppy approach to the American workforce as say, a whine drinking, cheeze eating 49er fan would.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Berrian would be crazy to sign with the Viquees, unless they have plans to get a new QB. The Viqueens QB situation might be the only one worse than the Bears, lol.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
ekuban and javon walker, that would be nice, sticking it to the broncos 3 times in less then 24 hours! Kelly , ekuban and walker
February 29th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Hey Mista -
You’re right. I’m sure everyone realizes that MaddenRaider/Alameda Insider is a troll and a fraud by now anyway. It’s just so hard not to shine the light bright on a fraud like that.
Game on tonight. Home against the 76ers. Should be another W for the W’s. I am so psyched that I actually get to watch the games. My 20 month old son watched his first Warriors game with me the other night and he loved it. Pointing at the screen and yelling at the TV, chip off the old block.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:41 pm

February 29th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
bears dont have a bad QB , well he is not living to hes potential (REX) but they just have the worst O line in the NFL, their youngest O lineman was Garza and i think he was 31
February 29th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Raiderdogg, once again, I take your insisting, that Alameda Insider is me, as a compliment. Alameda Insider owns this comments section. Even your guys’ savior spin meister, Bob Marley, is ducking him. Haven’t you noticed that? Marley is just rolling with his punches, trying to make it look like he doesn’t notice what AI is saying. Kind of like when someone bigger than you is picking a fight with you, and you pretend you don’t hear them. I’m sure a lot of you cyber machos know what that’s like. Nobody, again, including Marley, has mustered up a response to the points from Alameda. The only response is the usual hissy fit, “It’s MaddenRaider”. If it’s MaddenRaider, then I in fact own this blog. But it’s not me. He has my compliments, though. He has you guys in your place.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Dogg, high five!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Anthony, where did you hear that Berrian is on his way to OAKLAND?
February 29th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I think the releasing of Rams Wideout Issac Bruce would be a perfect pick-up for the Silver & Black. Jerry Porter is Gone and all we have left is Ronald Curry. That is not going to cut-it for Russell, he needs a good group of wr ASAP.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
It’s 3:40pm ET right now, Anthony.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Cho-Be
The NFL Network is reporting the Raiders are next in line for Berrian to visit.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I liked Sims a lot, but he looked done last year. With them signing Kelly for DT I am wondering if this means they might go after Jake Long in the draft…that would make me very happy.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
It is about time that the “JR” killer is gone. Thank goodness. Keep cleaning house Kiff.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Issac Bruce is 35 going on 36 years old…he is a last resort option for the Raiders.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
The one none of you all have took into consideration is that simms can always be resigned for a lot less money. he was due to make 2.5 million in like 2-3 more days.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Sorry madden raider, 12:48pm (pt)
February 29th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Dakota
every wonder why the jags end up in the playoffs all the time???
they always seem to be doing controversial things liek dumping LeftWorst at QB last year after naming him the starting QB…somehow Del Rio manages to get better than average back ups and Cleo Lemon is no surprise..he started for Miami and while that didnt lead to any wins he defintely proved he could be a decent back up…we could have used a cheap back up..what did Jags end up paying him ???
February 29th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
I agree with you Mistabrown, addition by subtraction. I wouldn’t be averse to drafting Jake Long with our #4 pick. I think he and Gallery would work well with each other and challenge each other to be the best they can be, with a bit of friendly competition and big 10 pride. A good left side of the line for the next 5-10 years.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Oakglenn, haven’t you noticed that your pimp, Bob Marley, is ducking Alameda Insider? Marley is rolling with his punches, pretending he’s not noticing AI’s points. All joking with him and what not… It’s pathetic. It’s like in school, when some dude was picking a fight with another guy, and the other guy was trying to pretend he was joking. And everyone is like, “come on?!?” That’s what Marley looks like, right now. And, since you’re Marley’s cling-on, where does that put you in the pecking order? Alameda Insider is shattering your little sheltered world here, Oakglenn. That’s what’s happening. Pay attention.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Jbarker,
I agree, Sims could be re-signed, but only if he accepts a huge pay-cut and agrees that he is nothing better than a guard or a back-up tackle. Always nice to have depth on the o-line, I just don’t think Sims could swallow those conditions.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
I’m about meeting girls, I’m about meeting guys and anyone who doesn’t like it can go F themselves, cause I’m Scoresman and that is what Scoresman is all about!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Jerry Rice was 39 when he signed with the Raiders, it can work if Issac is willing to come to Oakland.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Old Raider fan whoops on last post. I sure hope we sign G Wilson.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Tom,
Cleo got a 3-yr 8.1 mill contract.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Check this out you guys. consensus right now, is there is an absolute DEARTH of QB talent in the league. And this years free agent and draft classes don’t offer a lot of hope. Clearly a third of the league has QB troubles and this draft class is pretty weak. Matt Ryan should be good. Other than that…a lot of later picks or projects.
On the free agent side, Culpepper and McCown are two top prospects. What is THAT telling ya??
All that being said, how much value does Andy Walter have, and would you keep him for one more year only to lose him????
February 29th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
I think Sims had 5 or 6 false starts against the Titans one year. Maybe Al really is taking over the personnel and sanity is slowly being restored. Seems over the last few years he has made mistakes picking his coaches who have been influencing his descision making. Obviously he has tightened the ship, getting rid of shit talkers in and around the organization. Better to pay big bucks for a good character guy rather than someone like Pacman. Sims sucked, good cut.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Best Senario in my opinion is the following:
SS:G.Wilson(Free Agent)
FS:M.Huff(moved from SS)
DT:T.Kelly,G.Warren/T.Sands/(draft T.Laws in 2nd round)
DE:D.Burgess,J.Richardon/J.Kearse(Free Agent) unless we have decided to go DE in the draft, then we would not pick up J.Kearse in FA, but would take C.Long or V.Gholston. I would be happy with any of these for DE.
HB:Mcfadden(draft in 1st round) if we don not go with Gholston or Long this will be our pick, and I have to say, this would not upset me either. If we go for Mcfadden, however, we have to secure our other DE in FA. I think we are gunning for Gholston(assuming Long is gone), but I would love to see us reunite Burgess and Kearse as each DE and slap a Raider helmet on DMAC.
Just my humble opinion…what do you guys think?
February 29th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Dakota
I disagree on Bruce…we need at least one or two dependable “go to” guys for Russell…as he develops…he needs to build his confidence as he is starting out…I dont care how old you are at WR…for the next tow years I woudl seriously consider having at least one or two “old timers” at WR as long as they were “winners” and perennial “pro bowl” caliber guys.
I want the Raiders to have a roster devoid of players 10 years plus in the league but will make exceptions at the WR PK and P positions…
February 29th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Oakland would be crazy ass hell to pass up on Darren Mcfadden. with tommy kelley signing and the possibility of retaining Clemons a D-lineman is not needed in Oakland. D-Mac is the answer to LT of the Chargers, he kills us every single year and we someone to throw back in there faces.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Al Davis (poster), are you with Raiderfans.net? You keep bringing it up, far more than I do. If so, like I said earlier, kill yourself and become a cop in your next life. You guys are banning people for talking football, over there. Silencing Davis’s critics is not going to stop him from ruining your team. Yes, I have visited that place, for kicks, and aside from a few good posters there, who I miss dearly, that place is a graveyard now. You’ll find more interesting and critical conversation at a blog on basket weaving.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
And Sims then jumped offsides.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Jerry was still bringing it at age 39. Issac’s production is falling off fast. Check out Jerry’s last three years with SF and then compare it to Issac’s last three with the Rams…no comparison.
Still, he might be an option for us if we can’t land Johnson or Berrian, or if we decide that we just need a stop-gap answer for one year until we can address WR in the 09′ draft…
February 29th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Scoresman thinks there are a lot of good options at #4. Losing that coinflip doesn’t seem so bad.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
The Oakland Raiders will miss Jerry Porter, if Berrian is not signed.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
And another thing, sure as hell looks to me as if Kiffin is getting his wish and cleaning house disgruntled veterans.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Damn clownt i used to work graveyard hey somebody has got to do it at the time i was happy to be working.Did for five years

February 29th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
If Al Davis wants to sign Berrian, the deal is as good as done.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:02 pm

ESPN MOCK DRAFT 4
1. EXLARAIDERSEASONTICKETHOLDER Says:
February 29th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
ESPN MOCK DRAFT 4
4. Oakland Raiders — Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
Record: 4-12 | Needs: OT, DT, WR, DE, RB
Previous mock selection: Same
The Raiders are financially strapped and will not want to dish out top-five money one year after selecting QB JaMarcus Russell with the top overall pick. If McFadden is still on the board, don’t count out a blockbuster trade by owner Al Davis, since Cowboys owner and Arkansas alum Jerry Jones already has made his interest known.
Retaining Tommy Kelly gives the Raiders two good defensive linemen, and while that certainly frees the team up to go in a different direction with this pick (McFadden?), it does not eliminate Dorsey or Ellis from the discussion. Assuming he is cleared medically by team doctors, Dorsey is rated higher than Ellis and should be the pick. He could provide the type of interior disruption the Raiders’ defense was lacking a year ago.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Todd Watkins is going to be more productive than Jerry Porter. Hard to believe he could be less productive. Granted, Porter would have a big game, but then he’d disappear for 6-8 weeks. Enuff.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Breaking News:
The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced the addition of Tom Walsh to their coaching staff. Walsh will be the team’s new wider Receivers coach.
In other news, newly acquired WR Jerry Porter is asking for a trade to the Oakland Raiders.

I don’t see it as Warren was playing at a probowl level before he got hurt. Go check out the stats when he was in those games if you missed seeing them.

ROFLMAO
February 29th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
jerry porter signed with the javksonville jaguars. it’s sort of both good and sad news
February 29th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Eyepatch, defensive line stats are pretty deceiving. If a guy is constantly doubled, someone else racks up double digit sacks or more tackles, and you think the first player statistically is underperforming instaqed of being completely dominant.
In college there are defensive players that are so dominant that they have NO stats. That’s cause opponents just stay the hell away from them. Nnamdi has been like that the last year and a half except in the NFL everyone gets challenged.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
GOOD RIDDANCE SIMS. YOU SUCK!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
C4,
I can’t argue with #74…about how I see it too.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
What the heck does ROFLMAO mean JB? All this code speak needs to stop.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Our recievers have been slow since the Gruden years and that is why we get out game planned at the end of the year. It was heart wrenching watching us unable to throw deep vs Baltimore in the championship game if I remember correctly.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
EXLARAIDERSEASONTICKETHOLDER,
the part of post #90 I found curious was the “…financially strapped Oakland…”
no matter the year, no matter the circumstances the Raider bookcookers have always found a way to pay up for FAs, draftees and in-house players.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
C4, yep

February 29th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
R.A.W., naa, it’s all good news. They say Davis is definitely more involved in the personnel choices right now, and I like everything that’s going down.

ROFLMAO - Rolling on the floor laughing my ass off
February 29th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
C4, ROFLMAO, i think means…
rolling on floor laughing my @ss off.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
There is no way possible that Al Davis is going to let this team go into the season without making a move for a big wide receiver. Like always, a move that no one expects wil be made and then we’ll see about all this phony “financially strapped, no FA will want to come to Oakland” mess the media continues to put out. We need a writer from the Bay Area to start covering this team, the way they cover the whiners in the papers.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
M
I thought that curious too. Heck we just cleared $200,000 by getting rid of Sims.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Branch was a mear 155 pounds and played in the bump and run era. 3 Superbowl rings.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Sweet! Im glad Cinci took Rogers. Now we dont have to see him twice a year in a Denver uniform.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Thanks for the clear up on ROFLMAO, kind of funny now that i know what it means

Broncos | Team releases Walker
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 13:07:20 -0800
ESPNews reports the Denver Broncos released WR Javon Walker Friday, Feb. 29.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Sign Harris, cut Sims = The Oakland Raiders select….Jake Long.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Walker should come to Oakland. We have GREAT EXPERTISE at rehabbing torn Achilles - witness Ronald Curry a double Achilles tear victim.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
GET J. WALKER!!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Trust me Al Davis is drooling over the fact that Mcfadden will be their at #4 spot. Signing Fargas was a waist of Money, and who know’s if Bush is ready to go a full NFL season after being out of football for 2years. Mcfadden is the next best thing to Bo Jackson, he will make a impact on Day1
February 29th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Yeah, bittersweet news about Porter. It will be weird to see him in a Jax jersey.
ALL Sweet news regarding Barry Sims though. Very happy about that!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Jeez, sounds like the Cowgirls have their sights set on J. Walker…that was fast.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Dorsey or Ellis should still be our first pick. Keep Kelley on the perimeter.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Walker is a beast of a reciever when he’s helthy. He would be a great addition to the roster! Perfect replacement for J.Porter.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Oakglenn
since what you say rings true about our past QBs I think that alot of QBs are getting drafted this year to reinforce teams lacking depth there…If we were to trade Walters now…what would WE do to create a little depth ourselves at this very important position??? Losing Russel to an injury would devastate this tema without a fair to decent QB without the best damn running game in the league…maybe AL Davis does take DMAC after all in round 1…now I am a little concerned about what happens on draft day two…
February 29th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Oh, on youtube there is a Jack Lambert interview where he states that the best Steeler team ever was 1976 and the Raiders beat them twice that year, first game and last game for the Steelers, Guess that makes 1976 Raiders best team ever. Rolled up over 50 points on the best defense ever, according to Lambert. I love listening to the excuse of not having Franco and Rocky for the playoff game but not mentioning the were healthy in the first game and it did not matter.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
J-Walker is ok, but im tired of getting injured players…
February 29th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Chances are that they will resign Simms at a much lower salary (probably NFL minimum with incentive or participation clause) to be used as a back-up. that would be ok. If we didn’t need him after the 2008 training camp they can release him.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
In Day2 I would go after the best WR in the 2nd & 3rd round.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Jerry,
What you failed to mention is that Sims was also due a $2.5 million roster bonus in a couple of days.
Prior to finding this out, I was damn near suicidal not finding a reason to cut someone when you don’t save any money. Apparently, $2.7 million is worth cutting him. I only hope that we find someone to replace him. If we already had someone, why did Sims start all 16 games last season?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Sign…
J. Walker
G. Wilson
K. Harris
B. Berrian
Release:
L. Jordan
D. Rhodes
G. Warren
Stu (dont know how to spell his name)
Draft:
G. Dorsey
Dexter Jackson
and an OT
sounds realistic?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I read this blog everyday. I see what you men have to say, I agree sometimes, you guys blow my mind most of the time. I expect for you guys to understand that these last few months have been a complete let down Between AD and LK and now the way we are working our free agency it’s sad… To much for so little in Kelly we let go of JP FINE Forget HIM. We haven’t taken care of any glaring need. I dread we might fall into another season of the same crap. We are losing right now if anyone has any insight on the situation as far as taking care of our D and O-line let me know and stop fighting like girls WHO CARES we are all here for the same reason The betterment of the RAIDERS Get back IN Suckas P.S. Mention people that we are getting that are actually good
February 29th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Anthony,
Huh? Day 2, 2nd round? You do know that round 2 of the draft is still on day one right?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
That just shows you how much he really sucks and how bad our lef tackles are. I bet he won’t start anywhere else.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
The biggest up-grade to Simms is (OT) Alan Fennaca from the steelers. That’s a move that would let the Nation know that we are serious about getting back to the Playoff’s. OT Kwame from the 49ers is no better than Simms, and in fact it is a down grade to simms.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Add another defensive tackle, safety, offensive tackles, and speed at the skill positions and see how much better we are.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Faneca is a guard…you drinking early today Anthony? lol.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
WORD Anthony
February 29th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
One thing I liked hearing about Harris is that he is smart and mobile for a big man.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Cho-Be
if we could sign J.Walker and B.Berrian for recievers we would be set at that position, as Curry is a proven talent(not great ,but talented).
February 29th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Anthony
Do you watch football much? Aside from the fact that Fanaca is a guard and not a tackle, he’s not a ZBS type athlete. He’s a power blocker. Stick to baseball or just read the entries and see what makes sense.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Yeah ,I was a BIG fan of Jerry Porters “cicus like catches” too…..both of them!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I’ts not G Wilson a FS?
So I think that if we sign him M Huff its our SS again or the rumor of trading him its true
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Just prey we don’t wind up with 3 slow pokes like Rice, Brown, and Curry. We all saw the outcome of that year.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
thank god he’s gone gone gone
DOLPHINS SIGN JOSH MCCOWN by Michael David Smith
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Miami Dolphins have reached a contract agreement with free agent quarterback Josh McCown.
Per Schefter, the contract is a two-year deal worth $6.25 million. Although that’s a contract more in line with what a backup usually makes, McCown may very well be the Dolphins’ starter in September. Of the three quarterbacks on the Dolphins’ 2007 roster, two — Trent Green and Cleo Lemon — are already gone, and the third — John Beck — was unimpressive in the four games he started.
McCown started nine games for the Raiders last year, completing 58.4 percent of his passes and throwing 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He previously started 22 games for the Cardinals from 2003 to 2005, and he spent the 2006 season with the Lions, where his only regular-season playing time came at wide receiver.
The Dolphins have been the busiest team in the league on a very busy first day of free agency.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Dakota
as always you are funnay as hell today.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
JB,
you don’t have to be that mean, lol.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I guess now Parcels is an idiot like Davis but I bet the press won’t say it.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Walker SUCKS…Don’t want to see our new, young QB depending on damaged goods to catch the deep ball..Mr Davis, could you somehow trade this year’s #4 and additional picks for Steve Smith?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
sorry funny
…what else have you picked up in the FA world on your super speedy internet highway
February 29th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I’ts not G Wilson a FS?
So I think that if we sign him M Huff its our SS again or the rumor of trading him its true
———————-
G. Wilson is a SS. He was 228 lbs. Dropped down to 209 last year b/c the Giants needed him to play FS. With Raiders, if lucky enough to get him, he’d be SS with Huff at FS.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Yeah! Brayton, Sims, Porter, Clown…out with the garbage!
Stu, have you called u-haul yet? You are next!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Not only do I watch football but I coach and I’m a 9year season ticket holder to the silver and black. what’s your story?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I want to see Jordan cut he is a shit talker.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I guess that counts out McCown coming back to the Raiders as a back up…”see ya…dont let the door hit you in the ass on yer way out…!!! Or the floor as you trip over Barry Sims…hahaha!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
PAGING MR. SCHWEIGERT……MR. STUART SCHWIEGERT.
…you have missed your last tackle with the Silver & Black.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
G. Wilson is a solid SS and would fit in well for the Silver & Black
February 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I’ve been watching and reading about the Raiders for 27 years its pretty easy to figure things out at this point unless someone makes Davis mad. Like when Marcus Allen was running with O.J. and pissed off Al when he fumbled in the playoffs. Later all Al said was he thought more about Allen would have come out in the trial.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
If the Raiders go defense at #4 (Gholston, I bet), here is the guy I’d like to see taken with the 2nd round pick. Huge target, deep threat, great leaping skills, hands, great routes.
James Hardy, WR, Indiana: Hardy measured at 6-foot-5 and weighed 217 pounds. He then timed his forty’s in 4.5 seconds, faster than anyone thought possible. Hardy ran good routes and caught everything thrown to him during the practice session. He solidified himself as a top 40 selection.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I don’t know if any of these moves are Lane’s moves…he most likely wanted to bring McCown back, because he “knew” the offense…
February 29th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
So far, much ado about nothing. We let some losers go. Signed one potentially good player to a rediculous contract, but we havent improved one bit…yet.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
PFT is reporting that Brian Griese may get waived soon. Add him to the list of potential backups for the Raiders along with Trent Green, Gray etc…
Or is AW the man next year (as backup?)
February 29th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
#158…Marcus didn’t fumble in the playoffs…
February 29th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Tom Flores post #155 KILLED Me,
I’ll be laughing about this one for awhile.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
I guess the comment that Tim Brown made “teams never really lose players that they really want to keep” has held true so far…I must say I am a little surprised by the fact that McCown si not around…I guess Al Davis is making a statement to Kiffin…
“Use my guy or pack your bags baby !!!” I like Kiffin dont get me wrong, but this has to be the case considering that McCown was Kiffins boy.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
we need briggs and Bernard
February 29th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
The one thing you got to say about the Kelly signing is that the players will take notice. That kind of money for being loyal and productive. Al knows money talks in todays nfl. The 50 million is very much incentives that will not be fully paid. So he is counting 18.5 mil as of right now for a player that can play 2 positions along the line. And he did block the kick vs the browns to save the win.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Dakota
I always like Griese and hated the fact that he played for the Donkeys…I had thought that Parcells would take him as a back up and legacy player to fill the seats in Miami…
February 29th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Yes Marcus did fumble in the playoffs after the 83 superbowl year i watched those games too.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Maybe we do have a chance at Briggs, check out this interesting article:

February 29th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Griese has to many turn overs he makes poor decisions
February 29th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Now that Sims is gone, maybe the curse of Barry Sims will go with him. By that I mean the curse the afflicted the three guys drafted to take his spot.
Sims was a good character guy in the locker room, and in general. If he wants, he’ll make at least vet minimum to ride the pine for someone else. And he was far from the worst performers on the O-line the way I graded out the season.
Newberry — worst
Carlisle — mobile, but weak got marginally better when Mr. Nasty took up next to him when Green went out
Sims — abused by speed rushers, strong on everything else.
Gallery — learning phonebooth footwork, getting there
McQuistan — best of the bunch
With Newberry open to go and Carlisle opting out, Sims’ release opens the gates for the competition. McQuistan can handle RG or RT. We need a C, a RG or RT, and a LT. Henderson may be ready for RT. Some solid LTs in this draft. Don’t forget that the Colts went into the playoffs with a rookie LT selected at the bottom of round one.
Peace.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
eyepatch
good points…Al Davis knows what he is doing..I just wished the rest of us did as well !!!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Are we ever going to draft or pick up a true SS
February 29th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Darren Mcfadden at #4 will help Oakland beat up on the chargers. We need a LT type back in Oakland, Fargas was a waist of money.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
What about bush?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
At least we have the best punter in the league. BAM!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
And the original Hefty Lefty. C-Bass
February 29th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
If Davis is listening to Tom Cable then we may not draft McFadden. I see alot of the same traits between Fargas and McFadden but Fargas is proven and Arkansas ran lot of trick plays to free up McFadden that did not work against top flight teams.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
RIP
the Colts have a pretty solid team and had the luxury of taking what they thought was a steal in the late 1st round and they were right. We need to do the same thing and get back into round one to grab a top OT if we end up taking Dmac or a DT or DE with our 4th overall rather than doing something Al Davis has never done…trade down.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Who know’s what Bush is going to be like after missing 2years of football?… Fargas is a good back-up and nothing else, Jordan and Rhodes is out the door and Mcfadden can’t be over looked at #4. Just looked what Adrian Peterson did for the Vikes, and he was the MVP of the Pro Bowl.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Thats 40 years of drafting you are saying he never has traded down about and most of those early years we drafted so low they could not trade down. I bet if you dig enough you will see alot of trades he has mad eover the years up and down.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
If they think Bush is not the real deal he will take McFadden.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
new post up
February 29th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
After taking Gallery high in the 1st round I would be scared to take another OT with the #4 pick.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
We waste to many draft picks I hope Bush succeeds
February 29th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
We wont draft a line man first he doesn’t fit our line
February 29th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
I hope Michael Bush will be the back that everyone expects him to be..because we will need him this year if we dump Rhodes and Jordan as expected…Fargas is injury prone but when he’s hot he’s hot…
any more signings Dakota ???
maybe we have a shot at Briggs at LB…its our major problem right now as I see it…gotta stop the run to get Russell out there to throw the ball to any receivers at all….if we have any that can catch it…
Berrian and Briggs that has has a nice “ring” to it…
February 29th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
The Eagles just signed Asante Samuel. Sign G Wilson already!!
February 29th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I am just glad they took JR last year as Peter King said “There is Jamarcus Russell and there is the rest of the field.” Now draft some good young receivers and left Lofton go to work on them.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
I agree^^^^^!!
February 29th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Eyepatch
unfortunately I am going off what other people have posted…I cannot be absolutely certain that Al Davis has never traded down…he has made some block buster trades in his time just like Jerry Jones…and I for one believe it is possible that he and Mr Jones hook up this year…
February 29th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
EYEPATCH
I hope we draft or trade for a number WR too…havin galot of youngsters to coach up is great but we also need a guy that Russell can trust to make the circus catches or jump balls…to make him look good and build his confidence.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
And Dallas is on the cusp of a superbowl appearance. Jone just might help Davis get back on track and offer a hefty bounty. They are “thich as theives” I have read.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
The 2 big B’s
February 29th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Eyepatch, the fumble that got Marcus in Al’s doghouse was against Philly in 1986, when Waters’ recovered MA fumble and ran it all the way back to the other end of the field..sorry for bringing it up.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I think he fumbled going into the endzone in a playoff game in 84 or 85 I would have to look it up.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Faneca gone
February 29th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
gallery should not be moved from guard.
he has finally settled in there.
draft or sign a LT.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Haters!
February 29th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Per profootballtalk.com we just sign G Wilson!! Go Raiders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
If Kwame Harris starts at LT he’s going to make you pray that Sims would come back.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
It’s about time! Been waiting for this day for years!
February 29th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Well, with Al allowing McClown to sign with Miami we got a pretty clear picture where Kiffin stands as far as authority (none). McClown was a west coast q/b which Al hated and Walter is a big arm q/b which Al loves, and Kiffin had no use for, so we now see who is going to make up the roster. Kiffin had no respect for Walter’s style of play and it showed during the season. Kiffin is done, and Al has taken over the roster. What is going to be interesting is what happens in the draft. Will Al continue to be interested in track speed players or will he draft football players. The second pick will give us an idea of his direction..
February 29th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Two years overdue…
I have a love/hate relationship with Al Davis - his contributions - not only to the team - but to the AFL/NFL merger can not be denied.
That being said - shelfing Marcus Allen, letting Gruden escape after he scraped us up off of the ground, hiring Norv Turner, and now signing an unproven dt coming off of an ACL tear to a fat contract?
People call me disloyal when I critique the Raiders - but I look at it like this - I look at the Raiders as I do my own family, and when a family member does something stupid that is not in their own best interest, then I’m going to TELL them that their actions are stupid and not in their best interest.
March 1st, 2008 at 1:00 am
I’m going to miss all of those false start penalties on the road. I still can’t get over Greg Spires running over Sims like he was a speed bump in the Super Bowl. Greg Spires??? WTF!!!!!!!!!
March 1st, 2008 at 1:28 am
Sims never really did outgrow that false starting problem, did he?
I was going through some old VHS tapes a while back. I pop one in, and it us vs. Tennessee, from I believe ‘03. The very first play, Simms jumps. I pulled the tape out.
March 1st, 2008 at 10:18 am
SIMS GONE! About time. After his butt whipping in the the Super Bowl I lost faith in this guy. So what if he held off other players for his position. Collins and Stinchcomb are talentless players so it wasn’t too hard to beat them out. Now if the Raiders can rid themselves of Gallery I’m good with that too. I can’t a big lineman who gets punked by a corner in the open field (Chargers game 2 years ago). Plus, he still has those stupid penalties. Draft Jake Long at LT keep baby huey at LG and maybe Longs toughness and skill will rub off on Gallery. I’ll hold my thumbs down on Gallery for one more year if the Raiders get Long.
