Hall deal not done yet
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at 5:19 pm in Oakland Raiders.
While confirming that the Raiders are in serious trade negotiations with the Atlanta Falcons for cornerback DeAngelo Hall, Bay Area News Group beat writer Steve Corkran reports the two sides have not yet agreed on compensation.
ESPN reported an agreement in principle which would send Hall to Oakland for a second-round pick, No. 34 overall, in the 2008 draft.
Oakland’s only picks in Rounds 1 through three are at No. 4 and No. 34. They do not have a pick in the third round.
Hall desperately wants out of Atlanta and could conceivably agree to a deal even if his contract is not renegotiated.
Hall is scheduled to make $4.22 million this season and can void the 2009 season. Without a new deal, Hall could play one season in Oakland and essentially be a free agent in 2008.
If Oakland does give Hall a megadeal, one of its effects will be to drive up the price of Nnamdi Asomugha for the 2008 season. As an exclusive franchise free agent, Asomugha will receive the average of the top five cornerbacks once all the new deals are in. The higher Hall’s price tag in Year 1, the more Asomugha will make. As it is, he will make a minimum of $9.4 million.
After the Javon Walker contract, the Raiders were reportedly $6.4 million under the $116 million salary cap.
One way to help themselves against the cap is to give Asomugha a longterm deal and spread out the signing bonus over the life of the deal with a minimum first-year salary.
The price could be astronomical.
Asomugha already will pocket $10 million in 2008, give or take a few hundred thousand. To keep him on the roster in 2009, the Raiders would have to franchise him again and give him a 20 percent raise. Either that or let him go as a free agent.
That means Asomugha stands to make approximately $22 million over two years with the Raiders, or $10 million in 2008 plus whatever he could get on the open market in 2009 if the Raiders opted not to franchise him.
With those options, the $20 million in guarantees given Asante Samuel in Philadelphia could be insufficient to bring in Asomugha.

Trust in Al.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
When it comes to Al and the Raiders, I don’t worry about the $$$. Just get them here and win, baby!
March 15th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Mr. McDonald,
hope you are enjoying your weekend and thank you for being on top of the subjects as they play out.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
one thing is for sure, the Raiders will sell tickets this season.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Please no MeAngelo. Most over rated corner in NFL and not a team player.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
The bills will be due in the capless year, I hope.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
I just want to know how the media will find away to bash us now that the whole “fee agents won’t come here.” story is not working out so well….
March 15th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I don’t know about about Hall-if he’s that good or overrated, I just don’t want C.Wood lovers doggin him. C Wood is a great tackler but, is way overrated against the pass. I don’t understand everyone lovin C Wood. I was at most games C Wood played in Oaktown and although teams stayed away from him alot, when they had to they went at him and burned him.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Raideronroids,
how’s the life in Thailand? I was living there in a bamboo/teak hut in the south when I heard about the Raiders dismantling of the ’skins in the Super Bowl. Not the same country anymore, but still…
Hey, DeAngelo was in Grady’s corner vs. Petrino, not all bad.

correct me if I’m wrong, but this is how the situation stands regardless of whether or not we acquire Hall. Sure giving Hall a new contract pushes up Nnamdi’s price, but if we don’t get Hall someone else will and the price will be pushed up anyway.
I don’t think the Raiders are planning to get rid of Nnamdi. One thing the Raiders know is how to manipulate the salary cap, and if they’re already working on a Hall contract, I’m confident they’ve got the Nnamdi strategy worked out as well.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Petrino had to be an ass if W. Dunn dogged him.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
The one thing that will make Hall want to be a Raider, and its the main reason all players would want ot be Raiders, is that they know no matter what crap the coach gives them, they can always, and I mean ALWAYS, run to Al,…its always been that way,..think Hall wants to play in New Jersey for Coughlin?…no way in Hell…a player like Hall, superstar talent but not really coach-friendly, Oakland is a place for him, and he knows it, thats why he will be a Raider.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
What I liked about Woodson was a lot of time, if he did get burnt, he would find some way to force a fumble when making the tackle. The guy had more forced fumbles then everyone but Derrick Thomas.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Mr. Jerry McDonald,
I know as per journalistic integrity you cannot offer yourself as a fan of the Raiders. That said, I would guess that it makes your colleagues in other venues a bit envious that your blog takes in hundreds of hits from every portion of the globe on a daily basis. We may be maniacal, but we are.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Man u guys really need to know the truth about people before u start judging someone. This can’t be real Raider fans up in this room, must be some Charger or Bronco fans in here trying to discourage anything that we do. Believe me, teams are now worried in our division! We are coming back baby!!! Yes we will! Yes we will!
March 15th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
This would be a big deal, i think nnamdii already has a longterm deal rapped up we just dont know it yet, now with this trade, fabian is expendable. and we get good value for our number 34 pick. i wanna know what bob marley has to say about this. nnamdii and hall. one of these two dudes is gonna see some passes thrown at there way. hall can return punts, and he is better in the run game than any corner we have right now, so im for it i guess, but only if a longterm deal can be reached. not only a one year deal,
March 15th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I’ll concede Ryan y’er point about C Wood, except it didn’t matter in snowy play-off games. F’ing refs are haters too. Always will be.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Kev, youre right of course,..raideronroids is here only because his teams message board is maybe the worst in all of sports,…and their team has yet to win a superbowl.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
If the Broncos can trade for Champ Bailey and Dre Bly, then the Raiders can do the same by adding a similiar guy like Hall to the existing Asomugha.
How ya like us now Denver?
March 15th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
we dont need DEF BACKS ,LOOK since 98,
c-wwod,nahmdi-huff- routt-fabian, buchanon, gibson , stu in 3rd, way to much attention to def backfield!!
now,c-wood,buchanon-gibson are all gone & thanks to that FAT P.O.S. D..B RYAN we got nothing out of or for them , we had to give up buchanon & a # 2 to get fabian, just because of that RYAN A”HO’E ! NOW WE ARE GONNA GET RID OF EITHER HUFF-FABIAN-NAHAMDI-ROUT TO GET ANOTHER # 1 IN DEF BACKFIELD THAT RYAN WONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH !!!!
WE NEED TO STOP THE RUN , WE NEED SACKS !!!
WE NEED TO LYNCH RYAN NOW!!!
WE ARE LOOKING AT ANOTHER WASTE OF CAP SPACE !!!!!
March 15th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
hall has the d.sanders style.and Nnamdi can cover anybody with his size.davis is my hero he made the raiders know world wide and at 78 is still the heart and soul of oaktown.the nfl would not be what it is today without the godfather and thats no bullsh#t….
March 15th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Think it was Woodson who knocked the ball loose in Seattle in the rain when two Raiders jumped on it and slid through the endzone for a bogus safety. One more reason to hate the refs.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
And I’m glad Hall is a Raider, and he will go down as one the greatest cornerbacks to ever wear the Silver&Black!!! Nnamdi will benefit from him or get exposed next year one? We can only wait and see. This almost like getting Deion Sanders in his prime or getting Charles Woodson in his prime. Man Raider fans better be estatic and feel blessed to have such a talent. My boy is a die hard Falcon fan and he is not feeling to good right now about the trade. But he understands why they had to let him go. I’ll take the so-called problem on my team anyday. Why we at it, send us Ocho Cinco too!
March 15th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
resigning and accordingly structuring the deal of nnamdi should be a prerequisite to geting hall as well, this would give us by far the best secondary in the NFL, potentially the 2nd or 3rd best in NFL history behind the 83′ team and the soul patrol, this would make it imposible to pick on the CB opposite nnamdi because he can easily pick it off and go the distance, it would be nice to have 2 of the top 5 CBs in the NFL, nnamdi being 27 and hall 24, locked up to long term deals, the deal would also make washington, and his $2 M/yr(for a quality nickle/average starter…a little too much considering route is a little better and half the price), expendable, maybe we could package him in the deal and end up with jon babineax(DT) or mike boley(OLB), i would love to be able to get hall
March 15th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Thailand is god, been here almost a year, little south of BKK. Was in Atlanta before that and watched some Falcons games. The fans would love for us to take that malcontent MeAngelo Hall from them. We are better off with Fabian and save the money for Nahmdi.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
There will never be another Al Davis baby!!!By far the best NFL owner in the league, and his players love him!
March 15th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Raider83 says: Hall has d. sanders style and others say hall can tackle: which is it? don’t say sanders could tackle. he was a great cover corner and return man.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
I think if we got him our Dbs would be the best in the NFL.I think it would help our defence knowing that most teams couldn’t pass on us. So we could play closer too the line to stuff the run.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
deangelo is way more physical than deion ever could think of being, im saying he is an upgrade over what we have. better in run support and screen pass support than fabian or routt, and routt will be a 3rd corner. or we could use huff as a third corner and move thmas howard around. the options are wide open with this move, id like to see us trade for ocho cinco. or for julius peppers. but deangelo will work.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Raiders Corners
Nnamdi Asomugha - 6′2 210
DeAngelo Hall - 5′10 197
Stanford Routt - 6′1 195
Fabian Washington - 5′11 185
John Bowie - 5′11 190
Chris Johnson - 6′1 200
March 15th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Meant Thailand is *good*. MeAngelo tackles OK, but his cover skills aren’t the best. He was burnt many times by weak NFC south receivers, not to mention the Dallas game in Atlanta I went to, TO made him look bad.The worst is his his attitude, no MeAngelo, Al.
March 15th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Hall is a freak athlete, one of the best football players in the NFL at his position at the age of 24, he has an attitude and gets in your face, he never gets in trouble off the field but will sometimes get riled up on it, he is who he is and he takes it to the extreme, he’s tough, he’s mean, he’s good…….HE’S A RAIDER!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
DeAngelo Hall is rated #6 on ESPN on the Top 10 list of Corners and Nnamdi Asomugha is rated #10.
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 80 | Key
Alert: None
Comment: Hall has an excellent combination of quickness, speed and agility. He routinely matches up with the opponent’s top receiver. He is tough, physical and confident. He has the ability to be a very effective press cornerback. He can reroute and disrupt the timing of a receiver with his jam. He plays with good body position on vertical routes and has the speed to run with any receiver in the league. He has very good ball skills and hands. He will make the difficult pick and is a dangerous threat with the ball. He has very good man-top-man cover skills.
He is aggressive against the run and will attack the ball from an outside-in position. He is an effective ankle tackler. But Hall is inconsistent for an elite cornerback and tends to play fast and loose. He sometimes lacks focus in zone coverage and can get lazy with his technique. He allows too many completion in front of him. He takes chances on the back end in coverage. He is a bit reckless and undisciplined in run support. He will throw his body at a runner. He sometimes loses outside leverage on the ball.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I’m all for Hall as long as we blitz the hell out of opposing Qb’s. Pointless having great corners if you can’t pressure a QB. Rivers and Cutler must feel the pain.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
If we get Hall, having 2 good cover corners will help generate coverage sacks. Looking at history, AL has done a good job of gambling on recently injured free agents. I like the signing of Joeseph because when he is healthy, he can be an impact player. If Hall comes aboard, it should help free up Wilson for run support and let Huff play centerfield where hopefully he can generate turnovers.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
he has sanders style if you watch him with his speed and the way he plays his wr.he also gets alot of tackles for a cb all you have to do is check his numbers.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
hal is a great cover corner who can tackle and return, he is a flashy playmaker like deion but he is also a tough in your face guy who can bring you down, he really is good at everything, he’s a pro bowl CB, AND HE’S ONLY 24!!!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
If Hall covers like Sanders and tackles like C. Wood i’m all for it. Hope it’s L. Hayes attitude too.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Now, all we need is for the NFL to lift it’s ban on Stickum
March 15th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
they’re in denial in Atlanta. The AJC says on its webpage:
Hall denies trade report
Cornerback says he knows nothing about any deal to Raiders in exchange for second-round pick.
—-
you’d think “After getting permission from the Falcons last week, Hall spent Friday in Oakland, Calif., at the Raiders’ training complex, taking a physical and meeting with Al Davis, head coach Lane Kiffin and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan,” he’d at least know SOMETHING about a possible deal. Hard to believe he’s completely blindsided by the news
funny stuff
March 15th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
Man hurry up and please sign Hall already! All other teams are finding out about it and will try to throw a wrench in our plans. We better get a contract signed quickly or a team like Kansas City will up the ante, and they have plenty of money to give him. Please show him the money!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
If Hall it considered #6 when he always had to go against the other teams #1, how good is he when he has Nnamdi on the other side?
March 15th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
We need to stop trying to get a sweet deal for Hall and sign him!!!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Wow, leave the country for a week and Al unleashes his wrath on the NFL. Fine by me.
Seems some like the idea of Hall and others don’t…Who cares? If Hall joins everyone will back him as a Raider.
Fabe isn’t a starter..not yet..and may never be. Routt is getting better but get’s beat on double moves and crossing routes. The more DBs the better.
William Joseph to provide depth on the line. Nice. Hope we can coach him to his expected potential.
Coach him?? Damn…Ryan is still here…Was at the Browns game when he dropped 11 into coverage…
Raideronroids…we are practically neighbors…lol..
March 15th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I still think AL’s gonna swing another doozie before the draft….who knows what!?!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Man Deangelo Hall is definetly in the top 5. He’s atleast 3 right now. 1) Champ Bailey 2) Asante Samuel 3) Hall. But Hall will be better than both of them next year with Raiders cuz neither of them have a Nnamdi!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
wilson at ss huff at fs hall and Nnamdi at cb and routt in the nickel that is just fu#king sick!

based on reading the Falcons’ message boards, doesn’t seem like they’re too fond of the trade:
“worst trade in NFL history, worse then the Herschal Walker trade, worse then the Eli Manning trade, worse then the Brett Favre trade, worse then the Peerless Price trade. We gave up an extremely young, talented top 5 corner, for a 2nd round pick, which we have plenty off. I seriously just lost my apetite.”
March 15th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Just a thought! I wonder if Al is partly motivated by the fact that the rest of the AFC West is so poor. We all watched us barely loose to our division. He might think the Raiders can take the division next year by filling a couple holes. As bad as Den, KC are and SD on what appears to be a serious decline Al might think we can jump right back to the top and make the playoffs. That way if were have a good draft with the picks we have and do well in FA next year. We could be set to make a run.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
just remember guys,if a QB has all day to find a reciever, eventually one will pop open no matter how good our DBs are.and look at the donkeys-Bailey&Bly-but they couldn’t stop the run.how good were they last year.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Awesome deal if it gets done! Im in.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
btw,i’m not trying to put a damper on this trade-i like it-just saying.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
where are all the davis haters .sorry you dont like an owner who has put his heart and soul in his team for over 40 years…the nfl would never be where it is today without him .learn you history haters!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
I know right now the Chargirls front office is calling a meeting and shitting thier pants.
I can hear it now “The Raiders are cheating”! No way they have this much money.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
With the addition of Hall and all the FAs signed, Al has made great strides in improving the team for 08. He has gambled on a lot of previously injured FAs, but if they stay healthy, the team should be a lot better. Giving up a 2nd round pick in a no brainer. We still need a couple of DEs to help the rotation, but I do think the D should be improved enough to at least allow us to keep some of those late game leads we blew in 07.

Was just thinking of the way Detroit ate our lunch last year. The addition of Hall to go with Routt and Aso is must. Just hope Ryan stops putting small dbs on Tight Ends…Remember Fabes getting dunked on in the End Zone last year vs. some TE…can’t remember who it was as I have sought counseling ever since and tried to block it from memory.
If we do get Hall, it limits the potential of Al going after some burner in the draft with a high pick…OH WAIT…if we do use our 2nd, then Al HAS used a high pick on a burner…sigh…LOL.
Next up: DTs not named Ellis or Dorsey and a couple DEs. Anyone hear more about Kevin Carter?? Al loves the Elephant DE to hold against the run on that side of the field. Yeah he’s old but we have a history of this (Armstrong, Hamilton, etc.) It could help vs. the run.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
this team just keeps getting better
March 15th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
huff doesn’t deserve to be listed in any top 15.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
Notice how Dan Snider’s Redskins have been unusually quiet in free agency this year? I guess he finally learned that it is difficult to make a winner doing exactly what the Raiders are donig right now.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
D is looking good as long as we don’t play prevent D all game. How about trading down now and getting a OT later in the first and recouping a decent pick for a young WR or LB.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
huff is one of the top 5 coerage safeties in the NFL, he is a good tackler and he will he makes plays at, near, and behind the line of scrimage, but because he doesn’t get 5 INTs and 5 sacks he must be terrible right, he isn’t elite, but he is good, can you name one safety in the NFL, better than huff, who isn’t on that list? you can’t because there isn’t one
March 15th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
This is one of the greatest days since the Super Bowl loss. This is by far the best offseason I have seen in a long time. And yes if Al takes the blame when things go wrong then he can take the credit when they are right. He has done an outstanding job of getting talent.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Just Win-normally i would agree with you,but the guys we are getting are all young.maybe we can find some late bloomers.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Lefty,
you made a valid point in post 53, but so what, the Donks on on the way down and the Silver and Black are on the way up. Completely different mindset to go along with the skillset.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Al, now I’m getting worried. We DO NOT NEED HALL !!!!! Atleast not for a 2nd round pick. We can go Gholston in the 1st and LSU wideout in the 2nd. Early Ducet is a better snag for the needs we have than having Hall.
Raider Nation, I do not get this one!!!!
Ouch!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
jason Jones from SacBee is reporting the Hall trade is giving away both 2nd and 6th round draft picks. This means all the raiders will have are 1st round, 4th round and 7th round.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
I don’t think AL will trade down unless it is an offer that can’t be refused. I hope he can swing a deal with Dallas such as #4 and Washington and someone else for their 2 1sts and maybe Tank Johnson at DT. That would be sweet. LOL, as it that will happen!!!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
tommy you are dead on.and when he moves to fs he is gonna be sick.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
the reason Huff makes plays near the line of scrimmage is he lines up there.he has not shown that he is a good tackler.last year Kiffin singled him out as one of the reasons for our poor rush def.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
ok i bet al trades fabian washington to the bills for lee evans haha. then he drafts darren mcfadden.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
comeonal, you would rather have a chance of landing a good nickle WR than getting a proven, 24-year-old. pro bowl CB, teams give up top 5 picks in the hopes of getting a player like hall, and they are usually the same age as him when they are drafted, to get hall for a 2nd is a steal, let’s just hope it acually happens
March 15th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
latest report from Atlanta:
Falcons close to trading Hall
By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 03/15/08
The Falcons are close to trading defensive back DeAngelo Hall to the Oakland Raiders for second- and sixth-round picks in the April draft, according to a person close to the negotiations.
Hall, who denied the deal was close earlier Saturday, reportedly was in Oakland on Friday to meet with Raiders officials.
Hall and his representatives are negotiating a contract with the Raiders, which needs to be agreed upon before the trade is completed, according to the person close to the negotiations. Hall’s agent Joel Segal, who did not return several calls to his cellphone, was in talks with the Raiders on Saturday evening.
Hall said Saturday night that he did not believe a deal was imminent.
“As of right now, we’re still at the same stages that I was at with every other team,” Hall said. “New York, Washington, Dallas, and Jacksonville. Nothing has been OK’d on my end. Unless they agreed to something that I don’t know about, but I don’t think no team is going to sign me without talking to me and getting everything right on my end.”
The Sacramento Bee is reporting that was Hall was in Oakland on Friday to meet with Raiders officials, but Hall would neither confirm nor deny that he was there.
Segal reportedly is seeking a deal close to the six-year, $57 million that unrestricted free agent Asante Samuel signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, with $20 million in guarantees. The Raiders covet a solid cornerback to play alongside Nnamdi Asomugha.
The eighth player taken in the 2004 draft, Hall made the Pro Bowl in 2005 and 2006 before not being selected last season. He had five interceptions in 2007.
However, Hall didn’t ingratiate himself to the front office when he ran on the field for the “Monday Night Football” game against the Saints with a Michael Vick poster, the day his fellow former Virginia Tech Hokie was sentenced to 23 months in prison.
At the NFL combine, Hall said he wanted to be traded, and before the latest talks with the Raiders, Hall had just about guaranteed that he was going to be disruptive next season.
He had said he would consider either demanding a trade or sitting out the first 10 games of next season if the team did not extend his contract, which is set to enter its final year.
“I will not be a part of another losing team for another year,” Hall told the AJC in December. “I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. No matter who hates me.”
The Raiders also like the fact that Hall can return punts, a chore he did for the Falcons on occasion in 2004 and 2005.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Understand this Raider Nation!
If we sign Hall the writers will say ‘Al got soaked in the deal and Hall is a troubled individual, this shows the owner of the Raiders can’t judge talent anymore’.
If we don’t sign the writers will say ‘Al let his best free agent chance get away from him and this proves he can’t judge talent anymore’.
So you see all you folks who think Al is the problem, he as enough critics outside of the Raider Nation. So… get behind ‘The Man’ behind the Raiders or go back to whatever team you rooted for before you got on this ship…
March 15th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Huff is a damn great coverage saftey- he shut down gonzalez and gates last year - his tacklin will get better against the run
March 15th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
and huff is a damn good player. he doesnt get burnt by antonio gates, or gonzo, and denvers tight ends never made plays against him. he’s got a pro bowl trip or 5, just wait till the raiders win.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Trojan,
your points about Huff are right on. I fail to understand why the people here have been down on the young man. He has been adequate to every task given him here in the scheme of things. No he has not been stellar. Have some patience.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
huff makes good tackles on big, great TEs although he is extremely undersized, he is great at defending sweeps and tosses, great in pursuit and great in coverage, if he can make some INTs then the media and people like you will act as tough all of those abilities cam out of nowhere and they will send him to the pro bowl, nnamdi has been as good as he is for the last 4 years, but the media considered him a bust until he started making INTs and to them he seemed to come out of nowhere, huff is similar to nnamdi before the media took notice of him, he has played on a bad team and doesn’t make that many INTs, so he must not be that good right? no, he is very good, the people who think otherwise just happen to be simple-minded and stupid
March 15th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
The name sezs it all…WTF…did AD look under the mattress and find a coffee can full of loot? If this deal goes though it will send shock waves thought the AFC. Two shut down corners. Now go get Mcfadden!

Huff has been great at defending the pass-that is it.he is avg. to poor against defending the run.people like you bad mouth Schweigert for making-i repeat making-ankle tackles instead of laying someone out,yet you give Huff a pass on all the wiffs.be consistant.if he did a better job of stopping the run,you wouldn’t have to bitch about schweigerts lack of tackling 25 yards down the field.
March 15th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Is Huff even a SS anymore or is he our FS with Wilson at SS?
March 15th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
That crazy old man as I have read in many hater comments is crazy like a fox. There is not another owner in the NFL that will put it on the line to try and win like Al Davis. When you consider that it was Al Davis’s Raiders that have played in 5 Super Bowls and were a play away from another 5 Super Bowls. That is close to 25% of all the Super Bowls played either had the Raiders a part of or knocking on the door. That my friend is one hell of a track record. They have had a very rough 5 years but with a track record like that I am betting on Big Al. Hell most teams in the NFL have never even been to a Super Bowl. Crazy like a fox and still holding the 4th pick of the draft.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Huff will stay at SS and Wilson will be the FS despite what most people say - thats what I say
March 15th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
i’m not as down on Huff as i’m making it sound.he’ll probably turn out to be a better than avg. player, but he does get a free pass while Schweigert is crucified and i don’t see why.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I am all for getting Hall, our D-backs would be second to none!! Let’s get him in Silver and Black and then work on our DEs and DTs. This should be a great season, that is besides overpaying for a couple people…cough, cough Kelly and Walker cough, cough.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
I think that signing a good shut -down corner like Hall is a good move, Now go out and get some real protection for Jamarcus and things could be really sweet in 08′ I’m always “in” Go Raiders! I love this Nation!
March 15th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
huff is our FS and wilson our SS, i don’t bad mouth stu, he is an average starter and a good backup, huff is very good, and will be better at FS, the DEN comparison doesn’ work because they have terrible Ss and below average LBs, with hall we would have elite CBs, very good Ss and very good LBs, a good DT(kelly), an adequate DT(warren+sands=adequate, with potential of good), and an elite pass rusher in burgess, if we can add carter, who would be a solid starter, as he has been the last several years(and the reason TB still wants him back), we should have a solid DL, great LBs, the bet CBs in the NFL, and very good Ss, all that adds up to a very good D, add mcfadden to the O, which has already drastically improved the WR core, and you have not just a contender for the playoffs, but to win the division
March 15th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Yeah i seen that haha, i just think huff plays good football, but the people who say he has underachieved are not watching this kid play ball, huff is the least of oaklands issues, yeah he does make a fair share of money but i dont think he give up a hundred yard game to gates or gonzo, but dig this, when our d-line stops the run, something we havent seen since the super bowl team in 2002, then other teams will have to throw the ball, and if this deangelo hall trade is good, i bet micheal huff get his big plays. LONG LIVE AL DAVIS. i hope we all see the raiders win it all so we can tell everyone to pound sand haha.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Lefty,
You should go back and take a look at the stats from last year. Huff was 3rd on the team behind Morrison and Howard in tackles.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
http://bigbenlivingroom.blogspot.com/
Did you read what this guy said about the raiders offseason??
March 15th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I remember the pick he got against the chiefs this year, if it hadnt been deflected it wouldve been a return for a touchdown, huff is good, and he made progress in his second year. now i dont think stu is good, he plays with his head down too much, which makes him take bad angles and miss tackles with poor technique. now huff and wilson, its not like there is alot of talent at wideout in the AFC West. chris chambers, dewayne bowe, and brandon marshall is the best of em all. but the raiders match up very well in the afc west.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
there are two ways to force a team to pass: 1.to improve run defense(consistently fill the right holes on nearly every down) 2.to score points(break off a few big plays with a good offensive player or two)
March 15th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Forgive me for rushing to write before reading all the other posts (i.e., I hope I am not repeating too much of what has been said). Assuming a deal for several years, this is exciting for several reasons.
First, the impact for our pass defense EXCEEDS the sum of the parts. With both Asomugha and Hall, opposing offenses would have to throw against them both. Offenses can avoid one top corner, but not two. It means both of them get in the game more, they have more fun (and get more recognition, e.g., Pro Bowls), and we get more explosive plays on defense. (Huff, Wilson, Morrison, and Howard benefit in the same way.)
Second, the overall numbers advantage from man-to-man (to stop the run, or to attack from nickel or dime) gets real. The need to go to a Tampa 2 or comparable forward-thinking scheme is that no one has the personnel to run man-to-man. But with this deal, WE do.
Third, I think this will mean we keep Kiffen as head coach, which we need (a) to keep the whole team moving forward as well as (b) for the development of the offense. I give Al Davis enormous credit for working to get the player needed to make his defensive philosophy relevant. Davis kept Ryan because Ryan can and will coach from that philosophy. I am sure that Kiffen had become frustrated because he did not see any future for the defense with such a scheme. Signing Hall can change all of that.
To underscore the last point, Jerry’s previous post spoke volumes when he said that Hall was meeting with Kiffen as well Davis and Ryan. I think a key reason for meeting Kiffen is to give assurance that all are on board. If the deal goes through, I look for a press conference with Davis and Kiffen, and perhaps Ryan as well.
Trading away the No. 34 pick for Hall is worth it, but only if we sign him to a new multi-year deal. As such, the negotiations with Hall must be completed before the trade is a done deal. Given how comparable Hall and Asomugha are, I think it makes sense to try to negotiate a comparable multi-year deal for Asomugha at the same. If they understand the individual benefits of their both signing multi-years deals, it would be worth taking just a little bit longer to close the whole deal.
If multi-year deals for both get done, imagine a press conference with five at the podium: Davis between Asomugha and Hall, flanked by Kiffen and Ryan.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
Hmmmm …
I guess scoring a few points wouldn’t be so bad.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Tommy-i like your optimism but Huff is ok.hopefully he’ll be much better at FS(if he isn’t traded).right now one couldn’t call our LBs great as they haven’t shown the ability to consistantly stop the run.while Burgess does get after the passer,he is a liability against the run and what was our weak spot lasr year-stopping the run.on off. if we don’t get some lineman to protect JR we’ll be in trouble with or without(hopefully without)DM.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
so does this move make us draft RUN DMC or Vernon Gholston. Or Jake Long. or chris long, maybe a trade for ocho cinco so we can get ronald curry back in the slot to kill it against nickel corners. the possibilitys are endless.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
with our LBs being as great in coverage as they are, nearly all of our DTs being 3-techniques, having one of the best DEs in the nfl, and having the best secondary in the NFL, our D is not suited for the run, plugging in chris long, dorsey, ellis, or gholston will not instantly translate to having a good run defense, drafting mcfadden and paring him with russell, fargas, walker, curry, carer, and miller will instantly turn into points and force teams to air it out now and then, which they will not be able to do and we will win, that is why i am advocating mcfadden, that, and the fact that he is a freak/future HOFer
March 15th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
To underscore the last point, Jerry’s previous post spoke volumes when he said that Hall was meeting with Kiffen as well Davis and Ryan
————
actually incorrect. Jerry’s post purposefully omitted Kiffin from the meeting in order to generate speculation Kiffin has been/will be fired, or is left out of player decisions, etc., to get more hits on his blog. It was PFT, nfl.com, espn, etc., sources that aren’t trying to manufacture a story to get page hits, that said he met with Kiffin.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
yeah that game against lsu sold me on mcfadden, i watched him play alot, he’s a good player.

March 15th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
graider, your right on with the man v. zone argument and how it relates to hall, we have always run this system of pure man-to-man, and when have we won SBs, when we have two of the best CBs in the NFL in the same secondary
March 15th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Chris Long/Vernon Gholston/Dmac
I could make a case for all thee above why we should pick one over the other - No matter what it’s a win win situation
March 15th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
this is one hell of a deal. my best guess on the #4 overall pick? run DMC. we’ve spent a ton of money on defense this offseason, and still have to fork over dough to Nnamdi. man, what a secondary. Now let’s hope this motivates Kelly, Sands and Warren to go all out every play
March 15th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
I think the raiders will be alright and im looking forward to sweeping the chiefs and broncos. if jamarcus can make the players around him better like manning and brady, its gonna be a great year for the raiders and al davis. and us. the raider nation.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
we not only will have the best 2 corners in the league with hall and Nnamdi - but our nickle and dime corners can be most teams first and 2nd corners - teams will have to run against us 90 percent of the time - but like Trojan said if we draft Dmac than teams will have to test our DB’s because they will be so far behind - Jmak handing off to Dmac with Javon Walker/Drew Carter and Curry in the slot - Now that is straight DoeDoe
March 15th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
Tommy, I’m amped up. Ready for more Lombardis!
Pirate, thanks for the correction on the nfl.com source re meeting Kiffen. Still, I don’t Jerry was mismissing this. In his “Hall on the Way?” post, he said:
“The NFL Network reported Hall was in Oakland Friday taking a physical and meeting with Al Davis, Lane Kiffin and Rob Ryan. (The NFL.com report by Adam Schefter actually reported he was talking to Rex Ryan, but I’m assuming it was Rob).” I expect Jerry would have said something if he doubted this.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
BTW,Tommy-what happened?didn’t you used to be a realfootball 365 guy.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
kelly is very good, and so are sands, joseph and warren, but that is only half the time, warren, joseph, and sands are also terrible the other half of the time, what we need is kelly to keep up the good work and between the other 3, hope we have the right one in at the right time, our DL will automatically be much better beause our best DL will be healthy, dmac will breath life into the offense
March 15th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Lefty,
Personally, I kept waiting and waiting for Stuey to get it together, but it seemed like it never panned out. The last straws were all the physical punking he took last year from guys like Travis Henry. I sure you remember a lot of those plays. Plus, as a FS, he just didn’t make enough “plays” for me. I think Huff will be a better playmaker at the FS spot. And surely Stuey could not do the job Huff did on the TEs.
Stuey can stick around as a backup, and I think he might be better served as a backup SS.

huff never got the opportunities becuase he was great at shutting down TEs and slot guys and he played on the same side as nnamdi, which only saw 18% of all pass attempts last year, when huff did have opportunities, he played great, stu was good but he was inconsisent
March 15th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
i never said we couldn’t get someone better-just don’t understand all the hate cuz he can’t tackle like Mr.J.Tatum.
March 15th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
DoeDoe, I agree that Routt and Washington are legitimate. (Who saw us taking Routt with a 2nd round pick? Amazing.)
With what’s been said, I hope we can put up the points to force teams to pass. We will need a bunch of nickel and dime action to keep Washington and Route happy.
Given Washington’s speed and his 2006 picks, perhaps we throw him in at WR now and then for a real change of pace. (Okay, I should probably get a drink and try to chill.)
March 15th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
i agree lefty, but you just have to ignore ignorance, it’s bliss, and people are content with it, it’s not worth your or mine, or anyone’s time to try to sway an ignorant person, and it’s usually futile anyway

let’s be honest-the way Ryan has our FS playing 20 yds. off the line,it is really hard to trully evaluate them
March 15th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
we have two good LBs, two good DL(hopefully between the rest a 3rd will emerge), soon, 4 good CBs, and hopefully will see a lot more leads, so expect to see a lot more nickle and dime packages, and alot more wins

Nnamdi, Hall, Huff, & Wilson will form the #1 secondary in the NFL. If our D line can improve by leaps & bounds, Morrison & Howard will become beasts and our D will be awesome.
Now if Walker or Carter can stay healthy, across the board there’s huge improvement.
C Long & Gholston first, but if not available DMac.

I wouldn’t dare say Super Bowl. Even 10-6 won’t guarantee even a wildcard in the AFC.
I keep saying ‘09 is going to be the year everything comes together with all the FA’s and one more year of drafting.

I can’t imagine only bringing in 4 draft picks (1,4,6,7)?

Wonder how much power Kiffin has this off-season? He spent last year getting rid of trouble-making players. And now Al is back at filling up the roster with new attitude players. Go get ‘em Al! …but, who ya gonna blame next January? Cuz it’s obvious nobody’s talkin’ you into anything this year.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
With picks 4,6, & 7 I can see a C/LG/LT being part of those picks in addition to a WR or RB depending on DMac.
If we were to sign Chris Meyers we would then lose our 6th pick as Denver would receive compensation for him, but that would take away a need for a C.
The biggest thing that scares me right now is depth on the offense. We have 3 WR’s who all have injury history and could theoretically all get hurt in the same year with habitual injuries.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
The two biggest variables now are JaMarcus and Kiffin’s situation. The latter can and should be cleared up so this team can focus on winning. The former, we’ll just have to hope JR is ready to rock.
One thing that should help JaMarcus is our running game. It was very good last year and should only be better in 2008 with the additions of Bush and Kwame Harris. I think this is going to be a run-it-down-your-throat offense and then score some big hits off play-action.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Shawn- Gonzaga should definitely be in, but we’ll find out what our seed is tomorrow. They haven’t looked good all season and Heytvelt is finally starting to look good for once all year.
If we can get past our first game, then things can roll. For some reason their first game is always a nailbiter.

D-Hall didn’t seem to have serious attitude problems before Petrino came on board. And we all know that guy’s story. You can’t blame the player for having an attitude about the coach if the coach is a jerk.

This year is very interesting as 15 years ago you would’ve never thought Gonzaga, WSU, & Drake (I graduated from there) would all be in the top 25 at the same time.
My allegiance basketball wise stays with the Zags though with Drake/WSU a toss up for second.

Assassin- What do you make of the Hall addition if it’s true and goes through?
Holy you know what, our secondary regardless of passes attempted will be the best in the NFL with Huff & Wilson out back with Hall & Nnamdi shutting down the corners.
Now consistency is going to be huge in our rushing D.
I wonder if Al will sign Nnamdi to a big-time contract now?
March 15th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
this is a bad idea…
we do not need Hall…
we do not want Hall…
we do need our 2nd round draft choice…
March 15th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
TT- I wish you could pass some of your kind over my way instead of the schwag in the midwest. It’s green, but that’s about it. Full of seeds & stems.
But if you want killer green, get the blueberry up in NE Washington.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
the best stuff is up north by humbolt, all bud, very few seeds, very short stems, not distorted, clean, best sh!t ever…….i mean drugs are bad uum kay(i don’t know if that is how you spell uum kay, or if there is a proper spelling)
March 15th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Hey DSM,
I like the idea of having the best secondary in the league, that’s for sure. I’m just confused as to how this will affect Nnamdi’s morale. Perhaps Al will sign Nnamdi long term after Hall is on board because this move isn’t happening just to have Hall and to see Nnamdi gone next year. Al loves tandem corners that are lockdown type guys. I’m sure Al will make it right.
The only drawback to this situation is the fact that we don’t have a second round pick that we desperately need to improve the depth at DL/OL. But now that Hall is on board we may be moving Fabian/Routt combined with Jordan for a pick.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
TT- No seeds or stems in NE Washington. If someone sells something dirty they get their ass kicked.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I also can’t help but think that Al notices what’s happening in Denver with Baily and Bly. He’d love to rub this one in their face.

March 15th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
tcmassassin, what do u mean depth, the 2nd rnd pick must always be a starter, preferably at OT, but a proven 24-year-old pro bowler is far more valuable than a 2nd, he’s more valuable than the top overall pick in most drafts
March 15th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Assassin- Either way, Nnamdi will have another huge year because he’ll get paid.
I agree about not having a second round pick though.
Curious about Walter, Rhodes (I know his contract was reduced, but this could make it easier to trade him), Jordan, and Washington? Are we going to attempt to get back in the draft with trades?

Everyone is forgetting that the problem wasn’t are pas coverage but are run D. Lets cure what the real problem is through the draft and become less enamoured with big names in non problem areas!

I don’t count how many times any other team has won the Super Bowl.
I am a Raider Fan.

Chef - Someone said it best earlier…who cares about the $$$, Al seems to make it work. Get the ballers here and lets bang.
We have a lot to look forward to if this happens. Sure it doesn’t improve the run defense, but the run defense depends on how Sands bounces back. I for one truly believe the reason Sands had a down year was because Sapp wanted to be like Jared. Shedding that much weight really didn’t require a double team. When Sands was double teamed, Sapp couldn’t get off.
Now we have TK sliding inside and he is a legitimate threat. I’m sure Sands will bounce back.
Assuming we get any kind of pressure with the front four, I see us leading the league in Passes defensed and/or Int’s. We need Sands to step up in a big way, and that requires TK to be at his best. Hopefully we can teach J-Rich to be a little more explosive.

DSM, Intresting question but wouldn’t you rather stack picks rather then compinsate for lost picks in senseless deals?
March 15th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
TT- No need for argument, I know it’s kind in Cali too but given my hometown preference I’ll always designate the local purple kush, blueberry, bubblegum, and n lights as my favorites.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
TT - Depth was probably a poor choice of words. I should have said we need to add production to the OL/DL with that pick. If it’s OL then it would have to be a starter, even if it meant playing on the right side of the line. If it’s a DL, then maybe that pick could be a situational pass rusher.
Either way, I’m with you, I take Hall if we can sign him. I really believe we can make the DL work with what we’ve got. We have too, there’s a lot of jack tied up with that group already.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
171st!
March 15th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
DSM - I do think we will package players for a pick or two to get back in the draft if our scouting department thinks there’s someone we have to have. Hopefully it’s Sam Baker or a DE that is considered a sleeper.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Assassin,
I’m all for that but it concerns me that T.K will be so concerned with living up to his contract that he may actually end up over thinking his technique. But i am in complete agreeance that Sapp slowed T.D’s production way down.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Jerry, why the buzzkill?
Maybe we should throw in a couple of pitbulls with the second round pick.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
If Hall plays to his abilities as the focus CB with Nnamdi on the shut down side, losing the 2nd round pick won’t be a big deal (provided he signs a new contract).
Our biggest problem last season with our rushing D was consistency. One play they would bust the line for a 2 yard loss. The next they would give up a 17 yard gain.
Now all of the responsibility of our D lies within the front 4. There is no excuse with Howard/Morrison/Thomas/Wilson/Huff/Nnamdi/Hall as our back 7.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
enough reminiscing abou college experimaning, or getting off work last weak, or that bowl you did this morning, back to football……
improving the offense will improve the run D, our d isnt geared to stop the run and one DL, regardless of how good, will not drastically improve our run D, improving our O improves our D and our whole team and is easier to do, you’re too busy loacalizing the problem rather than looking at the whole team and the relationships and realities of our eam’s srengths and weaknesses, each effects the others….
March 15th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Terdell sand’s (my bad)
March 15th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Great pick-up it will put washington or routt on slot. They will probably deal the #4 pick and move back in the draft with more picks. Now they just have to stop the run and score a few TD’s on offense.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
McFadden, Hall, Walker…
Well, we are certainly going to have some personalities on the team next year. At least we will be entertained with great post-game rants.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
GRaider re: post 111
ha ha, so it turns out that Jerry went back and (without disclosing it) rewrote his previous blog post after numerous people called him out for trying to give us the false impression that Lane Kiffin had been excluded from the meeting with D.Hall. See post #8, for example, in the “Hall on the way?” thread, which quotes what he originally wrote before he snuck back and changed it.
Jerry might want to refresh himself with the code of ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists, particularly the part about being accountable and admitting, disclosing, and correcting mistakes.
March 15th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
# 183 I concur
March 15th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Jerry did that? Jerry, what are you thinking? Bad bad bad….tut tut tut. I am very saddened by your lack of professionalism.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
man I am reading it is for our 2nd and 6th round picks, so all we got left is our 1st round, 4th round, and 7th round draft choices, ouch.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
not worth it!
March 15th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Who cares about our 6th round pick….
On the other hand, Hall sounds like a spoiled a-hole. If he really did not want to play for a loser team, I seriously doubt he would be willing to come to Oakland. He is just in it for the money. I have a bad feeling about this jerk.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
When Lane took over he made it clear there were no scholorship players or malcontents permitted. Imagine him trying to convince Al Halls a pain in the azz.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Thanks Dakota, I thought for a second i was all alone in this.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
i don’t care why he plays as long as he cotinues to play at a pro bowl level
March 15th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
well, peace for tonight
March 15th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
They Call Me Assassin, in addition to your theory about T.Sands, I think he just got lazy after getting the big contract. Usually that laziness last a year and I’m thinking he’ll be back to the level he was in 2006.
Also, the loss of Sapp is a HUGE addition to the run defense.
Great quote re Sapp’s run defense on Football Outsiders last year:
“Let’s just come right out and say it: Warren Sapp is horrible against the run.
Notice I didn’t just say “bad” or “struggling” or anything like that to describe the 34-year-old Raiders defensive tackle. I said “horrible.” I don’t know who the worst offensive lineman in the NFL is, but my guess is that if you could identify that worst lineman and line him up against Sapp one-on-one on a power running play, the worst offensive lineman in the league would get the better of the match-up.”

March 15th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Chef, it’s plenty worth it. At the beginning of FA we had several needs. Many of them were addressed. Our D was pitiful against the run last year and we were still a competitive team. Give JR a few weapons, and time in the system, and we should be that much more competitive. We’re drafting DMAC because he’s a big time offensive threat and we will give opposing Defenses something to gameplan for.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Hall might be a jerk, but combined with Nnamdi, Wilson, & Huff he becomes part of a stellar secondary.
I just watched SportsCenter and there was no mention of a 6th round pick only the 2nd.
However, we do need some attitude on D and hopefully he can provide an Ed Reed type attitude to our secondary instantly making it league leaders in TD’s and Int’s.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
If Hall intercepts the ball, guess what…. you don’t have to worry about stopping the run =)
March 15th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Fuuuuuk it, who cares about chemistry on a team that has none anyhow. Might as well bring in Hall, what can it hurt? Hall and Walker may eat Lane Lame-duck Kiffin alive next year, but maybe one of the next three or four coaches in the next six years will be able to bring the team together? Lol, anything is possible, right?
I am going to bed, I am starting to get melancholy.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I’ve never seen bad buds here in Alaska. Thunder, blueberry, northern lights, hybrids, indoor-outdoor, nothing but quality up here.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
What’s up Pirate!
Sands may have been lazy. He may have also got worn down as he was getting double teamed quite often as opposing teams didn’t fear Sapp’s rushing ability. Either way, I expect Sands to have a good year.
We should also have another half second or so to get our DL’s through the pocket as QB’s aren’t going to take chances with Nnamdi and Hall waiting to pick a floater.
As it stands now, a QB will have trouble passing over the middle due to speedy LB’s with hands. They will also have to second guess their accuracy when throwing to the number two receiver as Hall will be covering that guy, not Fabian. Jump balls won’t happen anymore.
I like the move if it happens.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Frozen- Oops, I meant the continental US. Of course the N Lights in Alaska is the best considering it gets sun 24 hours a day.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I don’t buy into the hype about Hall’s character. He’s on the League Conduct Committee and he hasn’t had a problem until Petrino screwed the team. I’d be vocal about that too. There’s nothing wrong with having a spark plug on the team as long as he channels that energy into positive momentum. I don’t remember Hall being an issue with his teammates. Only with the media and the Petrino situation. Please advise if I’m wrong.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Assassin,
Dont you get the impression that were still in that win now mentality because Al is so desperate. But look at what Atlanta has to gain in this deal. Young talent with Three picks in the second round. When are we going to develop that same mind set. Drafting well builds teams for the future, Free agency helps teams that are almost there but need a player or two to take them to the next level, and in my opinion its just to much money and were not close enough to make a fa transaction or two to get us to winning the afc west.
March 15th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Tell you one thing, I’ll definitely be drafting the Raiders D/ST’s in my league around the 14th round.
There will be plenty of turnovers with this D. Howard & Morrison did quite well in the int’s department and forcin
