Deal almost done
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 at 11:35 am in Oakland Raiders.
DeAngelo Hall told the Atlanta Journal Constitution he expects to be an Oakland Raider by Thursday.
“There is just some tweaking of the language that needs to be done, some minor details,” Hall said of contract negotiations. “No deal breakers.”
The Raiders would part with the second and sixth-round picks in the 2008 draft. Hall told the Journal-Constitution he would fly to Oakland Wednesday.

first?
March 18th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Golly!!
March 18th, 2008 at 11:36 am
1st to say lets get this deal done baby
March 18th, 2008 at 11:36 am
SECOND
March 18th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Well 4th is not bad just like our draft choice.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Ha!!
Great job Schefter.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:38 am
One thing is for sure, it is going to be fun watching the Raiders on D this year, at least.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:39 am
It’s on now try to throw the ball stack the line and dare you to throw it
March 18th, 2008 at 11:39 am
It’s good that DeAngelo is not afraid of being shown up by Aso. I was a little worried about that idea.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Give us some details on ASO… What’s up on that front - is he signing the tender or getting a long-term deal?
March 18th, 2008 at 11:40 am
I could have beem first had to take the dog out and missed it next time
March 18th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Now, fix the Run D so those DBs can have fun on passing plays. I hope Hall takes the Punt returns, also.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Who will wear #21
March 18th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Before you diss Walker too much read this first: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/13415-NFL-Denver_Broncos-Oakland_Raiders-A_Closer_Look_at_Javon_Walker-170308
March 18th, 2008 at 11:43 am
I couldn’t say it last year, but this year I can say the Raiders are loaded with talent!
March 18th, 2008 at 11:44 am
The ACJ comments refer to him as toast. Let us be clear, only Elvis Patterson carried that nickname.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:46 am
I can’t believe we’re actually going to do this. To give up a 2nd round pick and about an $8 million per year contract to a guy who does not play a position of need makes no sense. Another step in the direction of continued horrible Raiders football. Get ready for a few more years of not being able to stop the run, not being able to rush the passer, and not being able to protec our passer.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:47 am
TrevJo, I don’t think you have ever played the game have you?
March 18th, 2008 at 11:47 am
The Raiders play ATL this year. I can’t remember where. Do you think Hall will be up for that game? And how about the knowledge he will have on the rest of the NFC South receivers?
March 18th, 2008 at 11:48 am
From Profootballtalk.com:
It’s not known where the Raiders’ negotiations with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha stand, but if Asomugha were to sign his franchise tender, Oakland could line up the most expensive pair of cornerbacks in NFL history in 2008
March 18th, 2008 at 11:49 am
I don’t like this move- we are not a few players away from the Super Bowl. We are selling off our future- I guess this reflects the fact that the end of AL is near.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Until next year.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Man im love being a raider fan. Never a dull moment on this pirate ship.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Gotta disagree Trev,
Hall is head and shoulders better than Routt and Fabes.
May not have been a “need” position, but it was a clear upgrade.
No more Fabes and his 10 yard cushions. No more power run plays to Fabes’ side, as Hall is a great tackler. I just hope that they let Nmandi and Hall match up according to who they are playing instead of locking them in on a particular side.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Kiffin now has better players to work with than Gruden had in year 2 and all are under 30 years old but 4, how can you say they are not looking towards the future?
March 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
yeah Hall is going to Dallas HAHAH, what a joke
March 18th, 2008 at 11:53 am
How are we sellling off out future? All these guys are young.
Hall is only 24, right?
March 18th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Repost:
RaiderDogg, i hope it’s both at the same time.. A nice picture moment right there. I don’t see how Al could pass it up? I just hope that he has kiffin (and possibly RR) be a part of it.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:54 am
you said it LMN. Insider looks more like an outsider with every deal the S&B make.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:54 am
LMN,
My brother called me about 30 minutes ago telling me “hehehe, Hall might come to Dallas.” (he’s a big d fan)
So a few mins ago I called him right back, and told him “suck a nut!”
March 18th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Maybe someone should pinch Al on the ass and say “stop dreaming”, but its not a dream, he’s making it happen.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:55 am
I cant remember who it was, but one here said Hall probably will take #24, so as he said…
that means the time I’ve been following this blog, we had Woodson24, Huff24… and now… =)
Hi Hall24
March 18th, 2008 at 11:56 am
Someone stated we were best in the league last year against #1 receivers, but worst in the league against #2 receivers. If that is true, this is not a luxury move at all.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
And I think this really helps the pass rush and run d, as you have 9 guys to focus on it now. Nmandi and Hall will man up the outside guys by themselves, leaving the rest of the guys free to attack.
The key is really going to be health and discipline for this D. There were so many times that defensive players were out of position last year. If we can get that corrected, watch out.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
I think they should take #21 and give it to DMAC. Give Nnamdi #22 and Hall #37.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:58 am
RaiderMight….
Muhahaha, why on earth did you mother get it right with you and missed by a ballpark on your brother??
March 18th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I wonder which number he will wear. I dont see Aso giving up #21
March 18th, 2008 at 11:59 am
I will be nice to see Huff and Wilson work on their own game rather then cover for a Fab flubb.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Jhill, I’ve got news for you, there are a lot of starting positions on this team that we could upgrade for a lot less than a 2nd round pick and $8 million per year.
March 18th, 2008 at 11:59 am
give Hall number 12…he can pretend he is looking in the rear view mirror all day…
March 18th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Eyepatch, not that you ever have a point, but yes, I have.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Why is signing 24 year old, 2 time Pro Bowler mortgaging our future?.
This kid is gonna play here for the next 5 or 6 years and I´d say he´s gonna contribute to make them good years.
And what are the chances that a second round pick becomes an above average starter for several years?.
Considering the first round rate is roughly 50%, I´d have to say it should stand at around 25%, if that.
And that´s just considering an above average starter.
Now what are the chances a second round pick makes 1 single Pro Bowl? how about two? how about two by the time he´s 24?.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
Jhill
Finally somone postd exactly why the change at CB.
The Raider organization broke down film and noticed what you posted and realized the need.
We need to tackle better and defend longer, the rush will be there with a extra step those corners will provide the lineman.
To all Atlanta fans take a hike, we will see you soon.
The old saying “HE WHO LAUGHS FIRST, LAUGHS LAST”
March 18th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
God I hope they don’t start fighting over a stupid number….
That’s all we need is an instant fight between team mates
March 18th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I for one, am glad we did NOT sign Kevin Carter.
I was having trouble getting hyped up over a guy who took himself out of the SUPER BOWL “for a blow”, on the LAST play of the game with the opposing team knocking on his goal line.
That’s what I call a CHARACTER issue.
Just Win Baby.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
I like it. Sure it’s a lot of cash, but we just got a lot better. Now if we can add another piece on the D-line to get added pressure on the QB… Ellis? Gholston?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
ASO SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GIVE UP 21 HE IS THE BEST COVER CORNER IN THE LEAGUE
March 18th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
TrevJo I am not sure why you are on this board. All you do is bash whatever the Raiders decide that you disagree with, go root for the whiners.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Now Brady and the patriots have someone who kicked their a”·!$
March 18th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Bob Marley, it’s simple, Hall costs too much, and we don’t have the pass rush to get the most out of Asmugha and Hall.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Gholston would be nice across from d-burg. I dont think they will go DT, but who knows
March 18th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
What a great move by the big man, with such great pass coverage we better start stacking the box and blitz a whole lot more.
Things are looking great from my perspective, a solid WR corps, solid RBs, solid CBs, a decent O-line, an up and coming QB, could we ask for more as a team rebuilding?
Raider Nation shall live on!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
HALL, HUFF, ASO, WILSON, LOOKS LIKE OUR BEST SECONDARY IN THE LAST 20 YEARS
March 18th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Trevjo,
Your concern is appreciated, but to fix every position in one year is not realistic.
Hall wants out of Atlanta, Davis made it happen, and you don’t need to worry about the cap.
Let’s play it out and then if your right, were back to fix the wrong.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
NOW TRADE WASHINGTON AND JORDAN AND GET SOME PICKS BACK OYA WALTER TOO
March 18th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
anyone know what our cap room looks like?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I hope Stu still has that deal hawking Italian suits. IMO he will not get a sniff from another team unless he wants to play on ST only.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
NOW, ALL, PLEASE, PLEASE, SIGN ASO TO A 5-7 YEARS DEAL AND WE ARE SET FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS IN THE MOST DIFFICULT POSITION TO FIND IN THE NFL
March 18th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Trevjo
I agree…lets start with DE…this has been pretty methodical…I think we are onto at least one solid DE and one risky injury prone DE by weeks end…that leaves all other teams scratching their heads wondering who the heck we are taking with the number 4 overall…at this point I find it hard to believe we are taking anyone other than Gholston…we arent trading with Dallas…we are taking the best DE in the draft at number 4…
The “dream” trade with Dallas would save us cap room and still net us a DE, DT and OT rather than Gholston…which would solidify our team….but that just makes too much damned sense…and as much as I love Al Davis right now…he has never been guilty of making any damned sense on draft day !!!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Here are some notable games against ATL last year for receivers. I don’t know if Hall was covering them or not, or if he even played in each of these games:
WK 3 S.Smith 1catch-10yards
WK 4 A. Davis 5-117
WK 7 Colston 3-45
WK 6 Buress 6-97
WK 10 S. Smith 5-61
WK 11 Galloway 2-63
WK 12 R. Wayne 5-66
WK 13 T. Holt 6-135
WK 14 Colston 9-92
WK 15 Galloway 1-7
WK 16 Boldin 13-162 or
Fitzgerald 6-72
I hope he was not covering Buress, Holt, Davis, Boldin or Fitzgerald, lol.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Bob…I agree and as I posted here last night Rod Woodson said point blank…Hall is perfect for Oakland and getting that second corner of halls ability MAKES the man defense work. I will take his opinion over any of ours. You can also think about it this way Hall is 24 and and there are some entering the draft that will go top ten older than that…If Hall was just entering the draft he would be a top 10 pick.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Now when we face Manning in the playoffs his 3 wide receiver sets won’t be so easy to run against us.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
I’m excited to have Hall, but I was kinda of hoping to see DT like Laws or Bryant with that 2nd rounder, oh well
March 18th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
So Who’s gonna stop the run ? and who is gonna protect Jmac ? Who’s gonna coach the team ? ………..But hey at least we got great corners. And one more thing Hall will be able to void the final year of his contract unless the Raiders sighn him to a long term deal, So basically we get a good corner for a year and thats supposed to be worth 2 draft picks, am I missing something?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
even if he was we also have aso on the other side, dakota
March 18th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Eyepatch, I don’t really care if you understand why I do what I do. But for your information I was very excited about the Gibril Wilson signing, I was happy that we signed Walker and Carter even though I believe Walker’s contract is risky. I simply don’t believe the hype EVERY single time we make a move. Not every acquisition of a premiere player is a good one. Obviously the Raiders’ recent track record is that they have not made consistently good decisions, so why would you blindly buy into every decision they make? I’m not here simply dogging on the things I disagree with, but the Hall deal is the new news and it happens to be the move I am least in favor of out of everything we have done this offseason.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
thanx uncle Al…now if you can just draft at 4th a DL and get OL later rounds this would be and early xmas for raider nation
March 18th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
WHAT AN OFF SEASON IF IT ALL PANS OUT …ASO,HALL,WALKER,FARGAS,AND IN A MONTH WE ADD MCFADDEN TO THE NUMBER 6 RUSHING TEAM IN THE LEAGUE LAST YEAR…HARD NOSE BALL CONTROL OFFENSE,MAN TO MAN DEFENSE IS BACK IN OAKTOWN……
March 18th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I believe the Raiders have made very good progress this offseason to addressing many of their most critical needs. (SS, FS by virtue of Huff moving over, WR1, WR3.) But I believe the Raiders’ remaining critical needs are at LT, DE, QB2, and depth at a heck of a lot of positions. I believe the 2nd round pick was going to give us a great chance to shore up one of those critical needs. Instead we are not going to do so and we are going to send ourselves further into future salary cap problems with the Hall contract.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Skullator, you are missing everything, I am not even going to answer the questions to your obvious troll.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
ASO-21 HALL-20 sup with the WILLIAM JOSESPH signing think he could help with the run D?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
#64 he is signing a new deal. Thats whats been taking so long
March 18th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
PS uncle AL can we also get a big strong LB that wont be pushed around doesnt half to be fast just big and strong
March 18th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Don’t cry about a #2 corner wasn’t a position of need, when y’all campained for Assante Samuel during free agency!!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Don’t overlook Hall’s ability to tackle. He had something like 70 tackles last year. We all remember Fabian’s pathetic attempts to tackle…
March 18th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
this was a great move ONLY if we are going to sign ASO for a multiple year, if not, this is not an upgrade,
so AL show to ASO the money
March 18th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
commitment to excellence
we are officially over the cap with this signing…and we still have Asomugha to squeeze in and our rookies..that’s one reason to let Jordan go asap…as well as any other cap killers that aren’t gonna be starting this year…
btw…didnt we just give both Terdell Sands and Josh Shaw contracts last year that need to be redone or better yet..traded outright !!!
I dont think Sapps retiring has been factored in yet which will save us a ton of room as will trading or cutting Jordan…
March 18th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
C’mon Spastic Be honest with yourself how is hall gonna help are two most glaring needs run D and o line.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Hall and Wilson will instantly improve the pash rush. Nothing like making a quarterback second guess his descision making on both sides of the field.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Skullator
You’re missing he will be in Oakland to sign a NEW contract tomorrow and we are NOT renting him for a year. He announced his travel plans in Atlanta.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
skullator
guess what we are doing with our draft picks ???
fresh meat…for the trenches baby
March 18th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
TrevJo
Your are right, we don´t have it yet, but we won´t solve all of our problems in one offseason, a very good CB became available and we got him.
Maybe we will aid some of our pass-rushing woes with the 4th pick, with another trade or maybe we we won´t and it becomes the priority next offseason.
This team is a work in progress, we will hopefuly improve significantly next season but we will still have weaknesses to be taken care of next offseason with a full set of draft picks and another FA period.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
And he is going to help special teams and return a few punts for touchdowns.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
This move should give the d a chance to blitz more. If double r gets permission from the Boss
March 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
thanks tom flores
March 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Hall will take huffs #24 and Huff will be traded for a 2nd pick, we will use that pick on Trevor Laws!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I am so torn as to whether to draft offense or defense with our first round pick. I think our defense has improved vastly but we still need a defensive tackle. On the other hand on offense I think we need another play maker, and who better to fill that void then Darren McFadden.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
TrevJo,
Don’t forget, we still need a center too! Add that to your list.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
He is an impact player no question.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
We may not all agree on every move they’ve made, but at least they’ve infused some serious talent on this team during the offseason, despite the “perception” that no one would sign here.
I’d rather debate which move will prove to be brilliant over the years and which ones hurt than to sit there do nothing and hope 4-12 magically fixes itself (like another team across the bay).
March 18th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
cb1=ASO
cb2=HALL
ss=WILSON

March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Cmon LMN,
Stop with the Huff trade talk.
Are you a Stuey or Eugene fan?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
RaiderDell, I certainly didn’t expect us to fix all of our needs in one offseason. But at close as we’ve gotten, I started to hope.
Anyway I can’t stress enough how important I think both the defensive line is, how important left tackle is, and how important I think second round picks are!! We DO need to worry about the salary cap. Second round picks, especially early second round picks are pretty much the best value you can GET these days. Unrestricted free agents (and that is essentially the kind of contract you get when you trade for a guy like Hall) are the worst value in terms of contracts.
Right now we’ve only got one defensive end who is capable of stopping the run, and one defensive end who can rush the passer. We’ve got NO ONE who is a reasonable representation of a left tackle. I really felt like we could address both positions in rounds 1 and 2 of the draft. It’s bad enough that we didn’t have a 3rd round pick already, 3rd round picks are also great value contract-wise. So that is a big part of why I hate this deal.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Skullator
See the words “contract extension”
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Skullator says:
So basically we get a good corner for a year and thats supposed to be worth 2 draft picks, am I missing something?
From PFT
The teams had already agreed that Atlanta would receive Oakland’s second- and sixth-round picks in the NFL draft, but the holdup had been whether the Raiders and Hall could reach an agreement on a long-term contract extension. Hall tells Wyche that the deal will get done.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Are you still missing the point.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Yeah, that would be great LMN. Trade Huff so our safeties are right back to square one. Great idea. Replace Huff and Stu with Wilson and Stu….does not make sense to me my man.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
west raider i believe they signed kelly to move to specificaly move to DT
March 18th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
If you don’t like McFadden and favor defense then this your ticket. Now all they need to do is draft a impact player on defense like ellis or Gholston.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Dakota, that’s right, I forgot that we have not locked up Newberry. Our o-line is going to be a mess and JaMarcus does not have the savvy to succeed without consistent protection. We are going to get our butts kicked in the trenches on both sides of the ball for years to come. That’s all I have to say about that. Bad move, Al. I’m outta here.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
He has lost his marbles.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
If we draft a DE or DT with the #4 pick, Rob Ryan will have control of one of the most expensive and highly drafted defenses in history.
He will still fck it up.
FIRE ROB RYAN BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
I am freakin’ pissing myself…I threw these two guys out there as a joke last month…Wilson and Hall would immediately improve any secondary…I dont care who you are…and we werent terrible to begin with…we are instantly the number 1 pass defense in the NFL now…PERIOD.
Now we get our two D linemen in this draft and an OT maybe a LB thru a trade and we are there,,,face it…Al Davis wants to go to the freaking SB in ‘08…I am shocked that he has done exactly what I predicted he would do with $150 M he picked up from selling 20 % of the team…unbelievable !!!
Raiders…get your flights booked now….we are gonna be in NE for the rematch of the “tuck bowl”…and the AFC Championship…only this time…we slaughter Brady just like the Giants did in the SB this year !!!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Newberry was the lamest center in the league. All you had to do was watch his head to figure out the snap count. That would be sacrificing the future, to resign Newberry and slow the developement of a younger player.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Dakota you crack me up…but I second the motion…LMAO
March 18th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
so the 4th pick will be used to draft a DE or trade with dallas for thier 22 and 28 and CANTY jones has a big hard on for fadden
March 18th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
forget Newberry…we need a center that is gonna be with Russell for the duration…if we resign that twit I will be a whole lot less pleased than I am now…
March 18th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Jhill and Dakota….
Ohh I’m so sorry, I suggested to get rid of an overpaid underachieving deuce…
March 18th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
They won’t have the cap space for 2 first round picks. I bet they make a pick at #4.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Tom, lol, take your meds, you are hallucinating. Don’t put the Raiders in the AFC Championship game just yet.
We still need to replace Turd, find another couple of LBs, find a center and starting LT, replace Rob Ryan and let Kiffin do his thing….then maybe we are contenders.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
trevo,
as a raider fan the only thing that we dont ever have to worry about is financial cap issues the raider organization is the best at working through these problems…remember a few years back when we were 25mil over the cap. Al and crew are gurus with money
March 18th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
ready to smash kc, denv and sd….payback time is acomin!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Trevjo
Why are you worried about the cap?
What are your worries.
Your point on DE is still a concern, your point on the LT is not a concern for me, I will see how harris works out first before I scream a need to find a player to fill that spot.
I know about Harris, benched in SF, lost his job to Joe Staley, let’s see what Cable can do with Harris, let’s give him a few minicamps.
We can address the LT during the Training camp if needed.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
JR trying to do a hard snap count with Newberry’s head bobbing when its time to hike the ball, insanity.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Well, I guess I only need to watch the first 40 minutes of the draft this year. Maybe I will tune in to watch us draft a center in round 4.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Cornell Green is now the oldest player at 31, I hope they keep it that way.

have faith…we will package players to attain a couple mid round picks and then use them to move back into round 2…to get our DT…I feel it in my bones…unless we actually pull off the Dallas trade…and then its all good baby…that is as long as ATL does not beat us to the punch….speaking of ATL , they are gonna have one hell of a draft this year…I am a bit jealous of all the picks they are accumulating right now…they are gonna rebuild their franchise in two years or less…
March 18th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Yes but they will suck with all those rookies for 2 or 3 years. You don’t win consistatly in the NFL with a roster full of rookies.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Now, add Vernon Gholston as a DE-LB specialty pass rusher like Terrell Suggs or Pat Swilling or Aaron Wallace back in the day.
Or Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey to stuff the run.
This is shaping up to be one awesome off season.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
I read some Dallas blogs and they hate to see Hall go but think Pacman is the answer lol. Pacman’s buddy got around 30 years for drug distribution and Pacman got to keep to Caddy with the engraved seats.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
listen guys
we have 7 or 8 tackles on our roster right now…one of them is gonna fit into our new line and if not we will pull in one more…
Cable did great things with a total bust of a line only one year prior…giving up a record number of sacks…he built a respectable line out of cast-offs and retreads…now we have some young guys in the mix that want to be the “guy” at LT for the next 8 years…If not in FA or the draft…then we will trade for him…but lets give Cable some time to find the diamond…before we pull the plug prematurely.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
hes going to wear number 23..
March 18th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
As a Falcon fan, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I am so happy that “toast” as we call him will be yours. MeAngelo will never be happy anywhere.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
All the Falcons had to do was pay the man, now you will regret it for years to come.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Digesting all of this it looks like Vernon Gholston will be the obvious choice at #4. With this secondary we need someone who is strong against the run and can get to the QB. Unless C. Long falls and I dont see that happening than the pick should be Vernon.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Don’t even bother to watch the draft this year, DRAFT GEEKS!!
I’m trading ALL my picks!!!
Bite me DRAFT GEEKS.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
LMN,
It’s my fault. I’ve always been a Raider fan, but also used to like watching the Cowgirls’ games. So my other tow brothers stuck with the Raiders while this other bother was enticed by the flashiness of the cowgirls.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
I started early with my new born. His first baby hat was a Raiders cap, his first baby onesies was a raider one.
Now he doesn’t leave the house without his Raiders baby blanket: http://www.babyfans.com/ProductImages/raidersbabyclothing/Raiders-Snuggle.jpg
I’m not screwing him up like i screwed up my brother. LOL

If they intend to move Kelly to Sapps old spot, Gholston will be the pick. Then late in the year, Sapp unretires to make a Superbowl run.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
RaiderMight…
hehe, at least your mother have you =)
March 18th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Nooooooo
we finally got Sapp to retire, no need absolutely no need for him to get back
March 18th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
RaiderDell thats a good article, especially at the bottom where it says Davis is not interested in money but getting the Raiders winning again.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Anyone here criticizing the Hall move needs to find another team…did you watch the games last year? We need impact players to put us over the top and Hall is a 2 time pro bowler, top 10 draft pick who also returns punts!
This team was not that far off…8 of our 12 losses were winnable games…another year with the O-line in Cable’s system will give us one of the best running games in the league, paired with the best pass defense, along with JaMarcus in Alameda already working out for September – what’s not to like about our chances this season?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
That John Clayton story reports all of the rumors as pure fact! As if he has been part of the orgnization this whole time.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I can hear AL DAVIS now…” OK Lane…now you either win the AFC West or every owner in the NFL will know you are the bust…not my team…not my players…just my HC…try getting any job…even at the college level after failing with such a front loaded roster of pro bowlers and top college players !!!
Are you the offensive genius your mentor Pete at SC claimed…or just another loud mouth punk ???
hahaha…go Al…bring it baby…school this boy!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
LMN,
Overpaid and underachieving?
What would you like to see Huff do?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Clayton is just saving face and I think he liked being called The Crypt Keeper!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
If Kiffin is so good at making draft picks he should be able to fill the holes left.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I really hope we are not trying to get rid of Huff and it’s Fabian and Stewie that we get rid of to try to get any kind of picks.
Huff did well and I would love to see him play at FS atleast one year.
Lets see Huff, Gribil, Hall and Nnamdi together for atleast one year.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
we will see this secondary together for years to come
March 18th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Huff is not going to be traded he did fairly well covering tightends last year.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Jhill,
Huff has been a disappointment (he covers TEs okay, but is not a playmaker or ball hawk and does not tackle well enough for a SS), but I am not ready to give up on him like LMN seems to be. His move to FS this year may make a big difference in his career.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Eyepatch
Let’ssee how it all plays out.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
How can there be reports that the Browns are interested in fabian? They don’t have a draft choice until day two, the have no 1,2,3.
Wrong team guys, think need.
Let me throw this out, NE lost 3 DB’S in the last few weeks, they could be a trade partner.
Jordan will not be traded, large contract, probably will be waived, a June first casualty or sooner.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Well, since the deal is basically done, I’m on board with it - number 2 picks don’t always pan out, and Hall is 24 years old basically 1-2 years older than a rookie, but with probowl experience - he’s a great compliment to Aso, who can cover the bigger recievers, while hall can take the little speedy guys -
Our secondary is now stacked, we just need another DE,DT and a SLB - Long/Gholston at #4, or trade down and grab Rivers SLB from USC and then take Odom with the #2 pick we get from trading down - Routt/Washington might fetch us a 4th, 3rd or 2nd each, so keep the one that gets us less and we’ve got a good nickel back, with Bowie pushing him for time.
Kelly is playing the 3 technique as it stands now, but if we don’t go after Long/Gholton, I say move him to DE -
DE Kelly
DT Warren
DT Odom (Draft Pick, Texas round 2, after trading down and packaging Washington or Routt)
DE Burgess
SLB Rivers (Draft, Round 1, USC trade down)
MLB Morrison
WLB Howard
CB Hall
CB Aso
FS Huff
SS Wilson
That’s a REAL top 5 defense and putting our best players on the field (instead of putting Kelly at the 3 technique and rotating him Warren and letting Richardson start at the other DE, or putting Warren at the run stuff DT/NT position where he doesn’t fit)
We have to have a good SLB to help Burgess in the run game - I wouldn’t be opposed to drafting him #4 as a SLB (4.59 40) and pass rush specialist (still think he’s too small to be an every down DE)
Now I really wouldn’t be surprised to see AL go after McFadden though - if he likes Burgess, Sands, Warren, and Kelly on the DL, then from his perspective the D is set and nobody else is worth drafting at #4 except for Jake Long, and I don’t think a RT is worth the #4 pick overall.
I wish Al would have had a little more patience and not traded away draft picks until next year, because in all likelihood, Russell is going to take his lumps this year no matter who is surrounding him and I still feel Kelly is the only complete D lineman we have. But, I guess that’s why Al really focused on the D - We averaged 17 points on O last year and gave up 24 on D. If one more year in the system and a healthy Walker can give us an extra three points per game, completing the D gives us the best chance to make the playoffs.
Let’s see what else Al has up his sleeve -
Off-Season Shopping List
SS - CHECK!
CB - CHECK
WR 1 - CHECK!
WR 3 - CHECK!
SLB - ?
DT - ?
DE - ?
There are a lot of good cheap LB’s out there right now, we need to grab one.
Al brought in a first round bust at DT to help provide depth - Could he be the next Burgess? Ellis/Dorsey #4?
Long/Gholston #4 to solve our DE problem? Al tried to nab Carter, but it didn’t work out -
There’s still another round of Free Agency, some more peaches will fall from the trees - One more big time move and we could be set - Trade down from #4, pick up a second, draft rivers usc #1, Odom #2, and dump Fabian/Routt for a third and snag another #2 for OL help, and this will have been the best offseason in recent memory.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
eyepatch: kiffin isn’t picking anything but his nose right now.
davis rules the draft every year, but especially this year.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Its too early to call him a disappointment.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Its obvious now, Gholston(DE-LB) in the 1st, and probably Sullivan (C) in the 4th if he is there.
Looks like we get our revenge vs. NE this year, BABY!
March 18th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Ok, I said I was outta here but RaiderDell and Mugsta politely asked me a very good question. They asked me:
“Why are you worried about the salary cap?”
Here is why… DEPTH. The good teams in the league have a lot of backups that are as good as a lot of are starters. Depth is key in this league. Depth is the difference between A. Falling apart and making excuses when a few key guys inevitably get hurt, or B. Surprising teams with players who step up and get us out of a tough spot, and push the starter in front of them to be even better. Depth is the difference between playing an injured player too early when he’s not ready, or getting a hurt starter needed rest because his backup can get the job done. But we cannot afford any quality backups because we are consistently pushing ourselves to the limit on our salary cap with a few mega contracts.
The perception with many Raider fans is that the cap does not matter because we have shown that we can consistently manipulate contracts and still sign some key guys even after being over the cap. While it’s true that we are able to do that, I couldn’t disagree about the cap not being a concern. There is no way we can shore up our starters AND get the kind of quality backups we need the way we are managing our cap. Yes we will still be under the cap when we sign Hall, but we are STILL not to the point of having legitimate starters at every position, even though it’s late March. And on top of that, worse yet…
You could count on one hand the number of positions at which we have quality backups:
-HB
-DT
-CB
That’s it.
Our backup linebackers and safeties are garbage, which prevent has a huge impact on special teams. And, along with lack of depth at defensive end, this prevents us from being able to substitute situationally and get more out of our rush defense or pass defense in obvious run or pass situations. Backup quarterback is arguably one of the 15 most important positions on the team and we have no one. Andrew Walter is our only backup QB and he would not even make the roster on many teams.
We only have one TE who can block. Beyond our top 3 WR we do not have anyone who should be seeing playing time in the NFL right now, and our top 3 WR are very fragile. Our OL depth is garbage. We barely even have 3 legitimate starters let alone a quality 6th or 7th man.
This isn’t fantasy football where we’re trying to put together the 10 best stars or so on one squad. It doesn’t work to pay 20% of your players 80% of your cap money.
Last but not least, RaiderDell downplayed the need to acquire a LT. I admire your optimism, but I want no part of Kwame Harris at LT. If he’s our LT, then who’s our RT? Cornell Green? Come on. We need to move Harris over to RT, back him up with Green, and get ourselves a LT. Our pass protection was a joke last year, and we really have not improved it in the offseason.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Washington is obviously the trade bait, he has a domestic violence charge against him now.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
We need to try and entice Roosevelt Colvin to the Raiders with a minimal contract, but a chance to start on a promising defense. Maybe he will take a one year deal to try and improve his marketability for next year?
March 18th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Realized a new reason to hate the Hall deal… Rob Ryan is garbage, but throwing money at the defense only increases the chance that he will be back next year. I’m sure Al will be satisfied with our 28th-ranked run defense and 5th-ranked pass defense, overall somewhere ranked in the teens. Sigh.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I knew we were getting back into cap hell with this Hall deal..but..you gotta love the balls…we are going to be a contender this year…Al is willing us into the play-offs…if we get there…you gotta like our chances…we get Gholston, and one of our DTs steps up to fill Sapps void..we are in.
its now in Gods hands folks…er..uh..that is Al Davis’ hands folks.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
You can only field 53 players on game day anyway. This is the deepest, youngest Raider team in years go look it up.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
how about hartwig at center
March 18th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Eyepatch, this is NOT a deep team. You couldn’t be more wrong. You can’t name 10 quality backups on our football team.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
TrevJo stop your bitching.
BIATCH.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Dont worry raidermight Huff isnt going anywhere. He is officially our new Free Safety. Huff Gibril Nnamdi and Hall will not be together for just 1 year but for atleast 5 or 6 have hope.
March 18th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
colvin,morrison,and thomas.that would be sweet
March 18th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
I think Burgess needs to produce this year and we should draft Ellis or Gholston to shore up the run and pass defense. Draft offense in the later rounds where Cable and Kiffin’s expertise will be an impact.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
The Feds cut rates again today, which creates inflation and drops the value of the Dollar, which makes all these deals crazy Al is handing out look much better, lol. After today’s rate cut, Kelly’s deal is really only valued at forty-five dollars!
Pretty soon, we may have to pay our players in rubles.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Colvin would be an ok fit but he would be a d end in our 4-3 system and im not quite sure he could handle having his hand in the ground all game.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
imagine 3 yrs from now when huff, wilson, aso, and hall are all in their prime.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Dakota
I was looking Colvin over last night thinking how perfect it would be to have a Pats defender on ou roster this year…we can still make room for one or two more guys…we just need to cut a few dead limbs and clear out some oF the underbrush…to make some cap space…Al is a genius when it comes to contracts and the way they affect our cap room when it counts…I trust that Al will have us just under the cap by less than $100,000 bucks by the final cut…
March 18th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Huff was 3rd on the team in tackles behind Morrison and Howard.
He shut down the likes of Winslow, Gonzales, and Gates.
It’s not his fault that teams targeted Stuey and Eugene instead of his side on zone coverages. The same way Nmandi has little stats, same with Huff.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Dakota you crack me up man
March 18th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
thank God Al Got that deal done for $150 M with Bear Stearns in cash prior to last weekend…LOL
March 18th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
You are referring to Thomas Howard and not Robert Thomas right Raider fan in New Engaland?
March 18th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
walter wouldn’t make the roster? he’s a potentially great QB who has never been given a chance to show what he can do, he didn’t have a team in 2006 and didn’t fit the system(and thus didn’t play) in 2007, he’s eventually(maybe in the near future) going to leave, probably for the price of a 5th or 6th and go on to become a very godd starter, ala gannon or derek anderson, i could see him going to ATL, CAR, STL, SF, BAL, or NYJ and have a very good career, guess whose PAC 10 records leinart broke in college, they weren’t elway’s(most overrated QB in NFL history), they were walter’s, there’s a reason we used a thrid on him and a reason he was considered a steal in the 3rd, he is a very good QB and is better than every QB in this year’s draft(none of which would have had a 2nd round grade in last year’s draft), he would make the roster of nearly every team and will start somewhere within the next 2 years
March 18th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
i heard that the brownies are interested in fabien.maybe we can get a 3rd rd pick for him if that
March 18th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
I disagree with you TrevJo. This is looking more and more like Kiffin is deeply involved in the descision making process and Davis is giving him what he wants. A bunch of young, talented players that are ready to make a name for themselves by stepping in and helping the team win. Wait till Fargas rubs off on a few of these studs :).
March 18th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
I think there is a great possibility we are looking at atleast 3 of our d backs going to the pro bowl next year.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
thats right raider 23
March 18th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Ouch…I still owe 40K on my house in Manila…thats gonna be a drag paying it off this year with the dollar so freakin’ weak…I am gonna lose 20% if Bush and his cronies dont get us back on some solid ground by fall …
March 18th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Jhill…
you ask me what I would like Huff to do?
ehhh tackle for once…
He would be better at FS, thats no secret, but he is the best trade bait we got… and I want Laws in the 2nd =)
Huff got 11 mio in 2007, all his missed tackles is not worth that
March 18th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Now that I think about it some more, we would have to be crazy (running a man scheme) not to trade a number 2 pick for a proven pro bowler at the other CB - that position is essential to our success and Hall is a proven commodity at 24 years old as opposed to a potential bust or average player. In the man scheme, I’ve b*tched that we basically have to have pro-bowlers across the board to make it work. And I’ve said that it’s impossible in this day and age - I guess Al is proving me wrong - our secondary is now insanely good. We’re short on 1 LB, and we need at least one more stud on the line - Al is pretty damn close to getting this thing done - we can even afford to go a little older on the line now as our D is only a couple of pieces away and we can use future drafts to address that down the road to replace some proven vets.
I declare the rebuilding stage officially over after 5 years and the start of the next dynasty ready to begin.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I wouldnt say Elway was the most overrated qb in the history of the nfl.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Tommy Trojan
I hear you and kind of hope we dont let him go..what if god forbid Russell gets hurt or has a series of bad games and we have nowhere to turn ??? I always believed we stole him once I checked out his stats in AZ…
March 18th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I agree Jediraider. Playoffs?
March 18th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
TrevJo
I usually don’t push the panic button until the draft is over.
You have some valid points, the backups are described by you as medicore to lousy.
I will disagree with you on the backups, when the draft is completed.
I will stay optomistic until then, no panic here.
Let’s see what gets pulled together in the next month or so before we push the fire button.
Panic is a indecisive behavior and were not there yet.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
LMN,
Again, 3rd on the team in tackles behind Morrison and Howard.
What does MIO translate to in reference to 11 MIOs in 2007.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
we should trade our # 4 pick to the jets for dwayne rodertson and their # 6 pick.and with their #6 pick we should draft either clady or gholston
March 18th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Regardless of whether walter was a steal he does not fit our system which requires quarterbacks to move around to make plays and walter simply doesnt fit that description.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
I don’t see why they would trade Walter either if they are serious at a playoff run. He has been in the system a year now and should be much improved.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
TrevJo
11 quality back ups:
warren
routt
o’neal
rhodes
bush
shweigert
c.green
madsen
s.williams/thomas(one will be a backup)
carter

March 18th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
He got demoted because he likes to pout not because he is a statue, he can run good enough to run the offense.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
11 million, sorry its the danish way to write it
March 18th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Raider fan in New Engalnd that sounds like a good plan, however i have read somewhere that Robertson is looking for a new deal and some people say that he only has 1 or 2 years left with his bad knees
March 18th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Dakota,Tom Flores,Eyepatch
You all post and have different views.
My last comment is would Davis trade for Hall without receiving opinions from Cable, Knapp and Perry or DB coach.
Say what you want about Davis, I’m sure they had some discussion about Hall, and his priority towards football and if he will be a cancer in the locker room.
The moved would have never been made.
Later, i’m off to find rubles.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Jhill,
I dont say he dont tackle, I just say he does it 4 yards from where he should have done it, its nothing like stu, shoe let them run 11 yards before he gets them down
But 11 Millions, he is not worth that
March 18th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
LMN,
You might want to check that. I doubt that Huff received 11 million in the 3rd year of a rookie contract. No where near that I bet.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Carter will be our number 2 with Curry playing the slot.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Jediraider
I love your optimism and the fact that we are officially closing the door on our 5 years of Hell…and looking forward to the next Raiders Dynasty…
We should trade next years 1st and 2nd rounders and get our Oline and Dline done this year…oops…no salary cap room for that now…unless…Roster recycle day is coming up…throw that trash out now and wash out the receptacles…we could get some fresh, clean, bright eyed rookies in here to round out this roster in ‘08, and make that run a year early folks…
March 18th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Jhill…
well he did =) and a 4.8 mil cap value in 2007
March 18th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
They picked up another reciever from Atlanta that was waived.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
LMN,
Where did you get that info?
7th pick in the draft getting 11 million in the 3rd year of a rookie contract?
I’d like to see a link to that info.
Hall was the 8th pick, what the year before? And he is getting 4.5 million this year, prior to the renegotiation that is.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
i’m not saying he’s a system fit, i actually think we should get what we can for him because as we all know, he doesn’t fit the system and will struggle to be effective, wha is was saying is that it’s stupid to think he wouldn’t make he roster, many of our backups are going to other places and getting attention, roster spots, and even performing adequately, teyo johnson, c.anderson, sims, d.clark, langston walker and clemons all occupy roster spots on other teams, and even carr is getting attention on the market, our players are decent, our depth is decent, we just havn’t had very good decisions over the last half decade, until recently, and the last few drafts have been good, you can expect these new players to start paying off, of course it always harder trying to call plays with the owner in your ear, the refs down your throat, and the other team standing across from you, we have had talent for a while, now i think we have enough talent to overcome all of those things this year, and probably get a playoff spot
March 18th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Raider Fan in NE
The brownies have no 1,2,or 3 this year.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
TrevJo
In this day and age, your backups are late draft picks, minimum salary vets and undrafted FA´s.
Take a look at depth charts around the league, that´s what you gonna get in most places
As far as the Raiders go…..10 quality backups
CB Washington, Routt
S Schweigert, Eugene
LB Sam Williams and ST ace Isiaih Ejkejiuba
DT Joseph, Sands
OL Henderson, Green, Grove, Morris, Wilson
TE Stewart, Madsen
RB Rhodes, Bush, Echemandu
FB O´Neal
QB Walter
WR Carter, Higgins
That´s 22 players to choose from, I think you can pick out 10 decent guys.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
Warren - yes
Routt - yes
O’Neal - no
Rhodes - yes
Bush - maybe, I have questions about his agility, vision, blocking, and receiving until he actually gets on the field
C.Green - currently a starter, unfortunately
Madsen - no
S.Williams/Thomas - no
Carter - yes, although it’s sketchy to consider WR3 a “backup
Joseph - yes
As for Andrew Walter, we are going to have to agree to disagree. I strongly disagree with your belief that he is going to go on to be a very good starter with another team. I’ll grant you that in 2006 he didn’t have much opportunity to make plays because of his surroundings. But when did he have the opportunity, he still didn’t make plays. And, not that it matters, but he was NOT considered a steal when we picked him in the 3rd round. He’s no better than Tui IMO. I don’t really care what kind of records he set in the QB-friendly system they had at ASU. From what I have seen of him in the NFL, I have no faith in his decision-making, accuracy, or athleticism. I don’t even see a leader in him. To even mention Rich Gannon in the discussion is unbelievable to me.
I don’t want to belabor this point anymore. We are just going to have to agree to disagree on the quality (or lack thereof) of these backups.

Mr. Marley,
I don’t consider Schweigert quality but you got some value in the others.

Raiderdell
I am sure that there were or are some interesting clauses in Halls contract…and I am sure you are correct that Hall met with every key coach after Al Davis let them know he wanted him on the team…
Money has a way of shutting up players that whine…and having a winning season will do wonders for ones attitude as well…
March 18th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
Well….If you don’t want to spend the money on the defensive line and build yourself a pass rushing beast, then you might as well get the best corners you possibly can because you’re going to need them. This my friends…is the Raiders. Its called re-creating the wheel and winning the way you want to win and not the way everyone else is winning. Thats what AD loves to do.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
And I don´t wanna look it up but at first glance, none of them should be older than 28 except maybe Cornell Green.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Furthermore, since he got most of what he owed, he would be cheap cap-wise to ship away, and since he is the best trade-bait, all this together seems the best solution…
ohhh, and I want Laws in the 2nd =)
March 18th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Previous post was in response to Tommy Trojan. Although I don’t see anyone extra on Bob Marley’s list that I would consider a quality backup except for Washington.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
you say “he’s no better than tui” in YOUR OPINION, but your opinion is not as significant as mine(sorry, i know that sounds bad but it’s true) when it come to scouting players’ talent
March 18th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Tommy Trojan - Tell me…do you go to the scouting combine? Do you go to the pro workouts? Do you go to as many college games as you can? How do you scout? Do you watch youtube? Do you read up on stats? Do you put in game tape and how do you get it? (The Patriots? haha). Tell us how you have become a greater scout than all the scouts of the world. I’m not trying to mock you. I’d really love to hear you answer to everything that makes you better than everyone else.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
With that…I’ll be back later. Peace.

Raiders23 -
I’m calling playoffs this year with a 10-6 record if we stay healthy - others have pointed out our lack of depth and the injury histories of some of our players - Our D needs to stay intact most of the season, because we can’t afford to lose any starters on D in a man scheme for an extended period of time.
I think we SHOULD EXPECT to sweep Denver and definitely KC - we’ve got 8 more very winnable games too:
Mia, CAR, ALT, NO, JETS, Balt, Bills, and HOU.
We have a very weak schedule and should pull 6 out of 8 of these games - That leaves the Pats, 2x against SD, and The Bucs. So only 4 games against playoff teams this year, and the Bucs are beatable, and we’ve been close against SD. NE seems to be the only game where we “shouldn’t expect” to be competitive on paper at this stage.
If LT goes down, I think we win the division - Denver and KC are done - KC will be rebuilding for 5 years just like we had to, and Denver is going to be mediocre until they get the terds out of their organization and realize they have to rebuild as well. SD is getting old, especially LT, and it’s just a matter of time before his wheels fall off.

When Hall signs this deal will Alameda Insider promise to STFU and crawl back under his dungpile? This loser is wrong on almost everything. Great inside source!
March 18th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
I have the sinking suspicion that Al is loading up for one big push…he ain’t getting any younger and his health is quickly declining…I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he is terminally ill. Seems like he desperately wants to win one more Bowl before his number gets called. What does he care about the salary cap if he’s dead and gone? It will be somebody else’s problem…AD wants to win NOW at all costs.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I totally think the Raiders could go 16-0 next year and match the Patriots.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Trev
Agree to disagree, I think there´s some quality backups among those 22 players listed, I guess we´ll find out.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Calm down there Bam Bam…ain’t gonna happen.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
JWB…
LOL, well if he stays that way he is atleast consistent, we just got to translate it, turn his claims on head, then they’ll almost true =)
March 18th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
LMN,
There is some obvious math errors.
Base salary of 300k plus 2.7 in bonus money does not equal 11 million.
Not buying it.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Jhill,
its the guaranteed money, on huffs deal tehy were frontloaded. which means he is cheap to cut or trade in his last 3 years of his deal
March 18th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
I’ll agree with Marley on the back up thing - I looked around at other teams players and it’s basically true, it’s not like Samuel was being backed up by Deion Sanders in his prime in NE - although I will say since we run a man scheme, and other teams rely on zone schemes, it doesn’t affect them as much as it would us on D. They can make due at certain positions and “hide” backups through scheme

Hall will take huffs #24 and Huff will be traded for a 2nd pick, we will use that pick on Trevor Laws!
That is most assuredly the most idiotic posts I have
ever read. And that is truly saying something, given
the large amount of fecal matter that gets tossed
around in here. Sure LMN, let’s just piss away one
of the most promising talents we have on an untested
draft choice. Makes a whole lot of sense.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Huff Signed a six-year, $43 million contract. The deal includes $15 million in guarantees and $20 million in incentives. 2008: $445,000, 2009: $945,000, 2010: $5.75 million, 2011: $1.945 million (Club Option), 2012: Free Agent

this does sound familiar…I hope it doesn’t ring true this time…AD is getting old..and he may have finally given up on his methods of madness…we may draft a solid D line yet…give him until late april before you become exasperated…
March 18th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Unless Rob Ryan can do something he has never done before and get pressure on the QB this deal will do nothing but squander our draft picks. We still need a pass rusher and LT!
Do I like having Hall & Asomugha as our DB’s obviously yes but giving up almost half our draft I dont like. You cant discount Al & Kiffins aggression in FA and coming through on the promise to attack FA.
Get a draft pick for Jordan and 1 for Washington or Routt and I’ll feel better. Sign Nnamdi long term too!

“Sapp was bad the last 2-3 seasons. I honestly believe we would be better hadn’t we signed him. I donw blame him, but I think him being in Oakland, the money locked to him and so on is some of the reasons why we have been in the desert for 5 years”
Here we go again. Man you really need to get a clue about football before you post. Do a little research once in a while. Warren Sapp had 10 Sacks in 2006 and lead ALL DEFENSIVE TACKLES IN THE LEAGUE! Get it?
For you to say that Warren Sapp was bad the last 2 or 3 seasons just demonstrates once again your complete and total ignorance of the game.
Honestly I am embarassed for you…

Alright LMN,
You made me look this up:
NAPA, Calif. (AP) — First-round pick Michael Huff signed a $22.5 million, five-year contract with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday that guarantees the safety $15 million.
Huff agreed to the parameters of the deal Monday night, but didn’t sign it until minutes before Tuesday’s afternoon practice on the Raiders’ first day of training camp.
“This morning when everyone was out here I was just wishing I was out here,” Huff said. “But I’m out here now.”
The Raiders are very satisfied to have the No. 7 overall pick in camp on the first day of practice. Huff is being counted on to fill the hybrid role Charles Woodson played last year: blitzing, covering slot receivers and playing deep safety. He’s even wearing Woodson’s No. 24.
Huff played every secondary positi
