Kiffin better start 3-1 or 4-0. With a rookie QB, that might be difficult to accomplish, but the entire season will be shaped by how we perform in those first 4 games. 3-1 or we miss the playoffs for sure.
Al Davis…give Kiffin a chance, even with this favorable schedule, 7-9 next season would still be great with a rookie QB starting!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Looks like we go 10-6 this year.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:15 am
16-0?
April 15th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Looks like Kiffin might be able to spend Christmas with the old man.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:18 am
Raaiidddeerrss… 11-5
April 15th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Perfect schedule, where it gets tougher later, which is what a young team that needs how to learn how to win, needs.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Looks like weather wont be a factor this season.
Well…MAYBE at Denver in late November.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Why do the Raiders always have a bye week so early in the season?
April 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
I don’t like where the bye week is because it might stop a winning streak. coming out of the gate strong would do wonders for this teams confidence especially Russell.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
I think 2-2 would be a good start. Maybe they can do 3-1
April 15th, 2008 at 11:21 am
as long as we dont loose @ home Ill be stoked!! I Hate driven back 2 san jose after a loss
April 15th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Week 15 - Raiders may have a chance to break another perfect season by the Pats…..
Revenge is sweet!!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Great Schedule:
@ Buffalo in Fall not Winter
San Diego and Denver @home early. Patriots at home. Perhaps a meaningful game @ San Diego in early December. No Cold winter games In December..
Miami, Chiefs @home, Houston, Atlanta, Jets and Baltimore all winnable games.
Our ground game must produce two home game w’s in the first month.
On the road good Pass defense and special teams will be crucial.
raiders 10-6
April 15th, 2008 at 11:22 am
Wow… nice season finale… AGAIN!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:23 am
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:23 am
The early BYE might be alright after all those weeks of training camp and preseason. Plus it gives the team a chance to make some changes based on what they’ve seen in the first quarter of the season
April 15th, 2008 at 11:24 am
December games are crucial… maybe split 2-2 or 3-1…
April 15th, 2008 at 11:25 am
The last time New England was in Oakland, we beat them like the b***ches they were. Time to do them bad again. Here it here, the Raiders will make a serious run this year. Kiffen does not have a losers mentality!

Why are some of you always predicting losses when looking at the schedule? Think positive ! I always hope for a undefeated season!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:29 am
Based on this schedule… Defense should kick ___ this year…
April 15th, 2008 at 11:29 am
The optimist in me sees the season’s 4 quarters breaking down like this:
1st Qtr: 3-1
2nd Qtr: 2-2
3rd Qtr: 2-2
4th Qtr: 1-3
8-8, not a bad growth year

I hate early byes, I don’t care what anyone says. I’m not one to cry about schedules and conspiracies, but when was the last time the Raiders had one late in the season? I can’t remember any.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:33 am
Whew! No back to back road games. It’s a decent schedule.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:34 am
I like that schedule =)
April 15th, 2008 at 11:34 am
i think the last time the raiders had a midseason bye was the year they went to the super bowl(2002). its been ridiculous the past 5 years with these byes between weeks 3 and 5.

Why are our “bye” weeks so early? Great won-loss records. . .
Division scheduled concluded relatively early. Another reflection of a “marquee” team. . .
Traveling seems evenly dispersed. One east coast trip per month, all starting @ 10:00 A.M. Pacific. . .
Only three games against 2007 playoff teams, although this is really no indicator of ’strengto of schedule.”
Not overtly insurmountable. . .

April 15th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Raidermight,You might want to look at week 11 n 12
April 15th, 2008 at 11:37 am
3 str8 division games in weeks 12, 13 & 14
April 15th, 2008 at 11:37 am
I like the schedule. Even if they stumble out the gate there is enough division games at the end to make up ground.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Not a tough schedule. Not many cream puffs but a lot of opponents that typically go about 7-9 and are likely to do so again this year (Denver, Buffalo, Carolina, Balitmore, Houston, the Jets). K.C., Atlanta and Miami are probably the easiest marks.
I think it all comes down to JaMarcus and getting the run defense fixed. In addition to d-line changes, I hope the LBs are working on stuffing the run. Morrison and Howard are elite in pass coverage, but below average vs. the run. If they want to become elite LBs, they’ll have to start making plays at the L.O.S. or in the backfield.

Texguy - We always end up with a bye of week 4 or
earlier. Wish it were later, gives us a
chance to get healthy for the playoff run.
We play 3 playoff teams from 2007; And we play them 3 out of the last 4 weeks of 2008…

good point, no cold games, the cold regions in the start of the season, and in doors late in the season, 8 sure wins =) 4 possible and 4 tough ones
April 15th, 2008 at 11:48 am
The record last year of the teams we play is a combined .432–if you discount New England that’s .349.
Only 4 games are against teams that were over .500 last year, SD twice, Pats, and Tampa.
6 teams won 5 or less games this year.
I don’t see why we can’t win 10 games this year..
April 15th, 2008 at 11:49 am
great schedule. this might be the year we make a comeback and no longer the so called laughing stock. im gonna be realistic and barring any injuries throughout the season my prediction will have to be that we go 10-6 this year. if we can win the close games and the ones where we are underdogs then it is possible to look at 12-4 but it all relies on JR and company. with this schedule, all the additions and another year with cable and knapp, its more refreshing to say……… IN 2008 THE RAIDER NATION WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH!

if we pass on mcfadden and the jets pic him and he runs all over us with the addition of long gholston or dorsey you d line mongers should feel like shit. bcus not 1 rookie is gonna make us a supreme run stopping team. he would need a year to develop when n a year we can sign haynesworth. a proven run stuffer.

April 15th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Todd - That’s a bit pessimistic. We have to be the favorite vs Den, Jets, Falcons and Chiefs at home. At KC, at Buf and at Mia are also highly winnable, based on wins last year. On top of that, we should steal at least one at home from Texans or Panthers with outside shot at NO and TB, again based on last year.

Kansas City at home we dnt really have a chance if im honest Croyles arm is a weapon.

your crazy bro.
its good to be back.
i think this year will be back to our winning ways year and al will finally step down after he puts the Just Win Baby back in the RAIDER NATION. he did open up his wallet and did gives more hope than ever with his big spending and the people he signed. im stoked over who to pick in the draft. i would hope for a trade down for more picks but who knows with big al.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
At first glance I was pissed about another early bye week, but on second thought….
It may be good for us with a 1st year starter at QB, the break can allow the staff and Russell to go over the first 4 games and evaluate his performance while getting some extra work on whatever gives him trouble.
And we are a younger team with one projected starter 30 or older on defense (Burgess 30) and 2 on offense (Wade, Carlisle). Everyone needs rest late in the seaosn but a younger team should handle the wear better.

Dakota….
yeah right =) what about the talk about obama, if he were muslim he had been out of the race before you could say double standards =)
April 15th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Broncos = 0-7 at their bye.
Chiefs = 2-3 at their bye.
Chargers = 5-3 at their bye.
Raiders = 4-0 at their bye.
of course you have to be wearing the silver and black glasses………
April 15th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I really hope the last game vs. the Sucs is important for both team’s playoff picture, and we crush em and end their season (with Gannon in the booth). Either that, or the Sucs are 2-13 and we put a Raider exclamation point on the last game of Gruden’s NFL career. Sweet justice!
Maybe then Monte will be job hunting… and Lane will have job security that is earned, not promised.

Even tho I absolutely cringe at the sound of Los Angeles (uhhh) Raiders, I have to agree slightly with LA. This team cannot start slowly out of the gate. Cannot. Also, while I wouldn’t say “anybody” but McLuvin, I would prefer an elite Dlineman.

We’re getting Chris Long.

From ESPN about scheduling
7. Which team has the biggest advantage?
The Oakland Raiders have a chance to make a significant jump to respectability in 2008. They have the NFL’s third-easiest strength of schedule following a 4-12 campaign last season.
Oakland plays just four games against teams with winning records from last year, including two against the AFC West-rival San Diego Chargers in Week 4 and Week 14. It also helps that Oakland went on a spending spree this offseason to add cornerback DeAngelo Hall, safety Gibril Wilson, receiver Javon Walker and re-sign defensive lineman Tommy Kelly. Whether that talent translates on the field remains to be seen.
8. Which team got screwed?
No matter how you slice it, sending a team from the West Coast to London is a logistical nightmare. This year San Diego plays at Buffalo in Week 7, then immediately travels to London to play the Saints.
Luckily, the Chargers will have a bye week before taking the field again on U.S. soil Nov. 9 against Kansas City.
“It helps tremendously just to rest,” A.J. Smith said of the bye. “I think that’s why the league has that set in there, so those teams that go in the future will have the bye when you return.”
Haha Chargers got screwed
April 15th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
This is a great schedule - yeah, I’d love a bye later in the year, but having it early with a lot of new players and current players at new positions I think it helps us having it after week 4.
We should go 4-0 on paper to start - We’re better than Denver now and should expect to win at home every time. KC is done for another 5 years while they rebuild and we should expect to wipe the floor with them every game. The Bills are weak and it’s a warm weather game so we should win that as well, and the key of course is to be able to beat San Diego at home. We’ve been keeping those games close and I think we’re ready to turn the corner. Beating San Diego is the key to the first half of the season. Worst case scenario we should be 2-2 (KC and one of the remaining three) going into the bye week and 8 straight very winnable games after that. By the time we’ve finished the first 10 games, the remaining 6 could go either way - you never know if a key injury will occur, or a team that is good on paper just quits, or one team just finds it’s groove and is better than expected, etc.
On paper, we should go 13-3 (NE, 2 losses to SD). I believe that with our good ground game, Jamarcus will have a solid season as a caretaker - he looked better in the San Diego game then either Culpepper or McCown did the entire year - you can just tell by the way he carried himself on the field, his poise in the pocket, and his decision making.
Is it realistic to go from 4-12 to 10-6 or better? Absolutely - the Jets and Saints have both done it recently, and moreover, I consider us a 8-8 team last year (based on how close most of our losses were) going into this season, so with our easy schedule, year 2 under Kiffin improvement, and new players at many positions, I think we’re going to win 10 games, which is only a 2 game improvement over last year’s performance. The key on offense is LT and #1 WR. Harris and Walker must deliver - if they do, we’re putting up 24 points per game which will force offenses to pass against us, which is going to be our strength - I doubt the Raidesrs will do the intelligent thing and move Kelly to LDE and put warren at the 3 technique so they can draft long or gholston to start at RDE and trade burgess for a NT (player or draft pick), but if we can put up points on offense and force these teams to throw against us, we should still win 10 games.
Now, more than ever, I really believe Davis is going to draft McFadden. He gave Sands (NT) big money, Kelly (DT) big money, and signed Edwards (RDE) to start at DE opposite Burgess (LDE) - they’re all his guys and I think he feels it’s on the coaches to make them work out.

Obama spent time in a muslim school when he was a kid…
—who are you rush Limbaugh? Obama is not muslim or EVER went to a madrasa.
Next I’ll read Al Davis is in a sex video with Marilyn Monroe.
April 15th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Huh? This is a great country because Barack Obama is leading in polls? Have you seen his political agenda? He’s the only candidate out of the 32 field or whatever it was who doesn’t have one innovative idea. His playbook is textbook tax and spend liberal. What that means to all of us who work is we get to pay for his great programs. You can’t pay your credit card = don’t worry I have a program. You can’t pay your mortgage = don’t worry I have a program. He’s quite good at telling you how to spend your money. Do you realize until recently he’d only gave 1% of his own money to charity and 60% of that was to that hate spewing church he attended for 20 years? If that isn’t enough he proposed we begin sex ed in kindergarten = yes folks kindergarten!
No Thanks! I believe a U.S. President ought to show some assemblance of love for America! Oh and we are the moral standard for this world so quit letting these agenda ridden people place you on the defense with guilt for a bunch of crap!
Go Raiders!
April 15th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
The schedule looks good but they might have a hard time with the patriots. Maybe JAMARCUS will lead them to VICTORY.
April 15th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
I love all the optimism. Same people were talking 10-6 or 8=8 last year. Right. Be thrilled if they win 7 or 8 games. Kiffin’s right—there is a lot less talent on this team (no matter what the old fart thinks) than s good team in the league.
Improvement will happen but it won’t happen overnight. Hopefully AD doesn’t screw up the draft (I hear Derrick Gibson is going to re enter the draft this year so our #4 is taken now) and gives Kiffin a chance to finish the season. If not, figure on 4-12 for a very long time.
April 15th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
I believe we get bye weeks early because of the A’s infield dirt and they are often in the playoff hunt for play in early October. With that problem the NFL just gives us a bye early to mitigate the chances of another home infield game. It is also probably why we have the back to back away games in early September.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Raiders should do better this year (hopefully). They cant get much worse. Like to see atleast a playoff berth, so the Buffalo fans (in ny) can stop saying the bills are so great.(cuz there not)
April 16th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Cant get a much better Schedule
April 16th, 2008 at 9:33 am
As usual you idiots think I am a Chefs fan. I am picking Oakland to beat KC twice and still go 5-11. You idiots don’t get it. As long as that old fart is running things Oakland will never win. He can fire 299 coaches. HE IS the problem

So this is a big turnaround from last seasons schedule. We go from second or third toughest to 3rd least toughest. WE got McFadden whic is killer, he is going to be a major factor. If he can turn into an adrian P by mid to early season i see the raiders going 9-7 10-6 or 11-5. They will go 5-1 or 4-2 on their division and then has a very easy schedule after that. We need our number 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft to step up and be the man that he is. This is a young team that needs a few leaders and im hoping we will develop some THIS IS THE YEAR TO PROVE OURSELVES RAIDERNATION!
