Howie and Al
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 6:35 am in Oakland Raiders.
There have been a few offhand references to “bad blood” between Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long and Raiders owner Al Davis in recent draft stories which in theory would prevent Chris Long from wearing the same uniform as his father should he be available this afternoon with the No. 4 overall pick.
Six hours from now, it will probably be a moot point, with Chris Long likely to be snapped up before the Raiders are on the clock.
But let’s say Long somehow slips to No. 4, with the St. Louis Rams taking Glenn Dorsey and the Atlanta Falcons going for quarterback Matt Ryan.
If the Raiders didn’t opt for Long, it won’t be because of a rift between Howie and Al.
It is pretty clear Howie Long does not have the same reverance for Davis as many former Raiders players. For what it’s worth, here’s one version of how their relationship became strained.
Long made his eighth Pro Bowl in 1993 at age 33. That same year, third-year defensive end Anthony Smith, a first-round pick from Arizona in 1991, had his third consecutive season with 10 or more sacks. With 36 sacks over three years, Smith _ who was either a free spirit or a bit of a nut case, depending on your perspective _ was awarded a new contract which paid him more than Long.
Long, the story goes, wanted one more dollar than Smith. Long found out what so many have before or since _ Davis does not respond to ultimatums. Ever. So Long, nearing the end of his career anyway, retired and made a fortune in television and movies and never looked back. When Long made the Hall of Fame, he thanked Davis early in his speech, but chose defensive line coach Earl Leggett to give his presentation speech.
Smtih played four more seasons with the Raiders and had 21.5 sacks. Twice he disappeared from the team for unexplained reasons and once was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. He was out of the league after 1997 at age 30.
Long has been a booster of Marcus Allen, who feuded with Davis after a contract issue. He also attempted to talk Chester McGlockton through his contract squabble with the owner.
While playing it cool where Davis is concerned, Long has never paid him any public disrespect. It’s also worth noting that Chris Long visited the Raiders, attending a San Francisco Giants game with defensive coordintor Rob Ryan, line coach Keith Millard and linebacker Kirk Morrison, and allowed himself to be interviewed on television about the visit.
Surely if the Longs wanted to send any sort of “keep away” message to the Raiders regarding the draft, they could have declined the visit.
Chris Long said at the combine one of the best things about his father was that he has stepped aside and allowed his kids to make their own way. I’m assuming that would include allowing the son to make his own decision about where to play his professional career.
Howie Long ended up making considerably more money out of football than he ever did playing it. He might even take some delight in seeing his son cash in a multi-million dollar bonus check with Al’s signature on it.
The bottom line is if Chris Long is on the board at No. 4, and Davis thinks he is the best player for the Raiders, any 15-year-old issues with Howie Long aren’t going to affect the selection.

April 26th, 2008 at 7:26 am
Why did they move it back to noon?
Because Al doesn’t get up till then.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:26 am
with the 4th pick the raiders take matt ryan then trade ryan to baltimore for thier #8 and thier 2nd and 3rd round picks.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:26 am
Draft day is here and think about how many touchdowns darren mcfadden will help our offense score, then teams cant just run the ball on our defense all day, touchdowns count, field goals and missed field goals, and punts dont lead to victorys. Draft McFadden.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Now why didn’t I think of that Kirk?
Too funny!
April 26th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Morning Nation,
RadRaider,
Baltiless does have a third rounder but it is compensatory and cannot be traded.

I’ve been silent here for many moons, but draft day is bringing me out of the basement. Nothing this off-season has changed my opinion that the Raiders would be best suited to go D-Line with the 4th pick. Stopping the run and/or pressuring the passer are the best ways to make this team a divisional contender right away.
I’d be happy with Dorsey, Ellis, Gholston or Long. If we are able to swing a trade down a couple notches to snag an extra first day draft pick, then we should still be able to grab one of these probable first year starters, then perhaps use the extra pick on other important needs like OL and WR.
Draft day rules! Go Raiders!!

Good morning nation,Marry Christmas!!! We need to trade with the jets so they can have ol skinny leg and we can get ellis ellis ellis!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 7:45 am
Mcfadden helps the raider offense, have mismatches. and its not like our first 2 games, the defenses we will play in those games would be great games to get that cut block going, and see mcfadden go for 100 yards a game, and with that comes the fear of jamarcus russell and our play action and misdirection plays kiffin runs, mcfadden is the pick. too much upside, our offense needs explosion.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:46 am

If Pat Kirwan is right in any way in his thinking that AD feels McFadden resembles Marcus Allen, then he goes elsewhere. I hope not.

KEEP HUFF….
And with the 169th pick in the 2008 draft Oakland Raiders select Calias Campbell DE University of Miami
April 26th, 2008 at 7:50 am
every sack i see chris long getting is against some weak college, mcfadden ran all over LSU’s defense, 2 years in a row, whose the best college offensive tackle chris long beat for a sack. yeah its howies boy i would love to see chris long a raider, but not gholston. i just think the rams like chris long too much for the raiders to have a shot at him. and why trade down, this is a soft draft later on, and thats two more salarys, think of it like this, we could get Chris Long, or Run DMC, or we could trade down and get phillip buchanon and neopoleon harris, ya’ll remember that. impact player will help us win, not late first round picks. i would trade fabian, stu, rhodes, lamont, for some later picks. make a run later on in this draft. al needs to sell tickets and win ball games, Chris Long or Mcfadden.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:52 am
soft draft later on??????? FEEP FABS

Welcome, Mr. McFadden.
You may now take your place next to that giant quarterback who we call our “franchise.”
We look forward to your future with the organization.

Alas… The day is dawn! Psyche! in Afghanistan it’s 20:00 and the draft is at 23:30 but I’ll be cheering just the same…
I’m really beginning to believer we’re trading down. No.21 I like your scenario.
Just Draft Baby!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Has anyone considered the possible negative effects on the city of Oakland if Mcdaddy moves his mama and brothers and sisters to Oakland?
Can they smoke crack and pot in the black hole?

bspn says Chris long is going to the Rams
April 26th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Michael Smih just reported the Rams will select Chris Long with the 2nd overall pick
April 26th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Rams have reportedly reached a consensus to take C. Long.
Atl is on the clock: Ryan or Dorsey!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:20 am
My Man TT,
Wassup Bruh?
April 26th, 2008 at 8:20 am
lol i agreew run dmc has some baggage, but not travis henry like baggage and the dude loves football. al needs to say darren, you can come to oakland, but leave little rock at home. haha. this is great.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:21 am
Wassup to everyone!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:22 am
Best case scenario, McFadden likely would have been the pick over Long had he been available, which would have meant Long would be a Chief, which would have been horrible. The pick isn’t a surprie but thankfully it elliminates the possibility of playing Chris Long twice a year. Also, considering Dorsey will now be available for the Falcons they are unlikely to trade down with anyone, meaning McFadden will be the guy at #4, barring Al Davis being blown away with a trade offer.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:23 am
Lets hope the sparrows take Ryan.
Or NY trades up with us.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:24 am
C.Long going to the other ExLa team doesn’t bother me, he can then pound on any EssEffer QB twice a year.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:25 am
Ok peeps,..today has come,…Im goin to Chris Webbers place today for the draft party, Center Court,..in Sacramento,..by Arco,…awesome place,..C-Webb will be there,..some Raiderettes,…alot of booze,…wings,…if we somehow land Dorsey,..look out.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:26 am
Yesterday on BSPN Keyshawn said that DMc needs to get as far away from his family and “friends” as possible.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:27 am
Rotoworld.com
ESPN’s Michael Smith reports the Rams will select DE Chris Long with the No. 2 pick in the draft.
The team is more concerned with finding a difference making defensive end than a run-stopper at defensive tackle. The next big storyline will be whether the Falcons take their original first choice in DT Glenn Dorsey or if they’ve already decided on QB Matt Ryan.

your new name, Arco Insider
April 26th, 2008 at 8:30 am
I totally agree with TT’s analysis. Get your DMac jerseys ordered…he will be the newest Raider! I am so thankful the Chefs won’t get C. Long!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Interesting points made last night by Steve Young about Atl’s QB situation. Reiterating that there are no QBs worth a fig in next year’s cllege class he said that the Falcons have to look at Ryan or else they wil still have Vick hanging over their heads a year+ from now when he is released from prison.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Well, Oakland is pretty far from Little Rock, Arkansas; and he vows to disassociate himself from his family, other than his responsible sister, who he will take with him to Oakland to “look out for him” in terms of keeping the negative influences away from him. McFadden himself does not have “character issues”, he is one of the best “character guys” in the draft, but the worry is his family, which includes a crack addicted mother and two gang member brothers, may negatively influence him. There are no “character issues” at all with Darren McFadden. He’s a hard worker, a team leader, and a well respected member of both the locker room and local community.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Good morning NATION!! I had to get the place all ready for the draft extravaganza I’m havin’! Got some buds coming over (some are Iggles fans, sorry), some brews and other spirits, wings, pizza, chips, etc. Now, Al just don’t let us down. BTW, good news about the St. Louie thing only because it takes away the C. Long issue! I’M STILL IN LANE!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:34 am
i think mcfadden would respect mr davis, and the oppurtunity givin. Most players come to oakland and act the part, but i think mcfadden would score touchdowns something our draft picks lately have not done excluding jamarcus. not since kaufman have we had a draft pick in the first round score us touchdowns. could be the problem with our team today.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:34 am
they still have june 1st cuts?????????????
April 26th, 2008 at 8:35 am
GOOOOOOOOD MORNING RAAAAAAIDER NAAAAAAAAATION!
If we do not intend to draft Chris Long, then I am glad he is going to the Rams. Keep him far away from the AFC West please and thank you.
DRAFT MCFADDEN!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:35 am
the best would be if stl pick long and then atl picks gholston haha, then the queefs are left with no DE option
April 26th, 2008 at 8:37 am
we dont need McFumble…..Defense is where we are pathetic.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:37 am
Okay:
Phins: J Long
Rams: Chris Long
What if the Jets trade up for McFadden at 3? The Jets know we will take their guy!
I guess we are stuck with Dorsey! Lol, I guess that is a good problem to have.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:37 am
with Mcfadden we could go from the worst offenses in the leaguye to the top 10
April 26th, 2008 at 8:38 am
Miami- Jake Long
St Louis-Chris Long
Hotlanta- glen dorsey or trade with one of three teams new england-jets-chiefs-jets and new englad want gholston-chiefs want the Ryan
Oakland-Darren Mcfadden.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:38 am
These media guys are all over the place ..
Atl shouldn’t draft Ryan b/c he doesn’t have an Oline?
No chance they could pick up a few Oline guys with their 3 2nd rd picks?
C’mon!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:39 am
hum , 2 years ago we wee the worst offense probably ever, last year we sucked 2, add DMAC, the D is almost set, but we are missing Touchdowns, and DMAC gives u that at the goal line or at their own 1 yard line
April 26th, 2008 at 8:39 am
Josh… Nnamdi scored us 2 tds.. Phillip “kingsford” Buchanon even scored us a few TDs.. on Ints and returns, Charles Woodson and Ricky Dudly also scored us TDs.. hmmmm.. id rather take a run stuffer then Dmac.. its like putting an extra candle on a cake that doesnt need on just cause it looks good.. but yet.. our horrendous run d? pfft.. stop the run and we win football games.. FACT
April 26th, 2008 at 8:39 am
I always thought the only guy that I would be truly happy with getting IF they didn’t get DMac was C. Long. I am stoked that the Lambs are taking him! I am already dreaming of the “Flash Nasty”!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Bottom line is with 1 and 2 decided, we either go McToothpicks, Dorsey, or Ghoul (w/o a tradedown). To be honest I’d be OK with any of them using a 4. More leaning toward Ghoul though, I’m just not buying the “overhyped” crap!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Wow! The ship is getting heavy with everyone jumping on board.
Draft McFadden
April 26th, 2008 at 8:42 am
listen… we didnt have a problem running the ball.. we had problems stopping the run.. we were #3 in the league rushing the ball.. what the hell are you talking about? who cares if Mcfadden will score 8 tds a year.. when our D gives opposing RBs free rein all over the field and let them just walk into the end zone.. priorities.. we won with the backs we have.. we lost with the Dlineman we have.. its actually pretty simple.. stop the run .. we win games..
April 26th, 2008 at 8:44 am
#77 - Good point.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:44 am
we were last or almost last on rushing touchdowns to!! so…..
April 26th, 2008 at 8:44 am
My guess is that Alt takes Dorsey and then the Jets might trade up with us and take McFadden. Then we take Ghoul eller Ellis.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:44 am
chris long is going to rams. we might get stuck with Mcfumble now.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:44 am
Although I want Dorsey, I think realistically the only guy we draft at 4 is McFadden. We trade down for anyone else, and I see that guy being Ellis. Best thing that could happen in that case would be Atl drafting Dorsey so Balt can trade up with us. I can’t see us trading back past 8.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:45 am
They’re gonna trade down and get more picks , I predict our first pick will be Ellis or the kid from Auburn , then our 2nd pick will be a OL or WR.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:45 am
30th rushing touchdowns!!!! or something like that
April 26th, 2008 at 8:46 am

#77 is not a good point. How many times have we been over this?
Our Dline was hurt last year, 2 STARTERS!
A 3rd starter was 285lbs at DT
Kiffin just told you about Sands’s issues last year!
Stu has been replaced!
We can get another “run-stuffing” DT in round 3 or 4.
So on and so on!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Some of the guys are arriving now. Check it, these guys are jealous of the BLOG! NATION RULES!!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:48 am
why are you stoked long is gone? hes more of an impact player for our team than Mcfumble. we need to trade down now that the hes gone unless dorsey is there.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:49 am
now with that said… it is only fitting that Davis takes Mcfadden anyway.. wont be the first time he has completely ignored the most glaring need we have
April 26th, 2008 at 8:49 am
what did jamarcus russell score on his wonderlic test?!?!?!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:50 am
tomycar we already had a long drawn out debate about this……..i’m not wasting more time…….bottom line: we stop the run-teams pass -they can’t do it against us-we win a close game OR we score points-teams pass-they can’t do it against us-we win a big game…….i really don’t feel like spending Christmas morning having the same argument over and over
April 26th, 2008 at 8:50 am
OK Jhill, OK! My point is we need a QB missile coming off the edge, every team should have one. To me that’s Burgess (maybe two more years) and Ghoul, his heir apparent!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:50 am
someone?
April 26th, 2008 at 8:50 am
Bring it on Nation…. With C Long supposedly being gone… it seems it will be RunDMC… hopefully we’ll see him and M.Bush as the ultimate one two punch for years… Get an explosive WR or grow one… and J Mac… will have us Giant like in 3 years

Tommy Trojan Says:
April 25th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
BREAKING NEWS………..or not…….Yesterday I, along with many other executives in the marketing department, recieved a memo advising everyone to prepare for the addition of either Chris Long or Darren McFadden, the jerseys for the player selected with the Raiders #1 Draft pick have already begun production, the production will be finalized on Sunday and the first shipment fo jerseys for said player will be available for purchase on Monday, May 5th.
Does this mean we are certain to draft one of these guys? Maybe not, the memo in question left open the possibility for unknown players acquired in trades or with a later draft pick acquired in trade, but the fact is the organization made a point to emphasize Chris Long and Darren McFadden by name in order to prepare the marketing department for potential impact. Basically, if we stay put with the #4 pick in the draft, we will be taking either Chris Long or Darren McFadden, in no particular order of preference, at least not that is mentioned. Al Davis is widely speculated, including within the organization, to favor McFadden, so, if he is there, he has a very good chance be the choice, but should McFadden be off the board, possibly do to the rumored rade scenario in which the Jets move up to acquire him, Long will be the pick. I just thought this would be interesting, not necessarily because it’s news but because it seems to confirm much of the speculation. It’s either McFadden, Long, or trade down. So I guess we can all be happy………….
Now, with Long off the board, it’s down to McFadden or possibly trading down.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I hope the jets decide to move up though… and take our spot… giving us a later pick too…
April 26th, 2008 at 8:53 am
i would just like to now, haha, what was russels wonderlic score?? anyone?
April 26th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I recall hearing it was not impressive.
But I dont recall the score
April 26th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Hmmmmm, Charlie C, on NFL Network just verified everything I have been talking about concerning Dorsey and Kelly playing together. Not a good idea.
Jeez, Dakota is right again.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Tommy Trojan plz shut up u sed tht yesterday ur chat sucks. u dnt have a job and claim unemployed benefits
Draft Matt Ryan
April 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Washington will be traded some time between the mid-2nd and mid-3rd when all of the good CBs in the draft are gone and some teams are left looking elsewhere, we are elsewhere, and that is about the time you will likely see Washington gone. Although it’s also possible Washington could be traded for a player as well…..
April 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
the reason teams run the ball on the raiders is that the raiders cant score points, so team play ultra conservitave and pound the rock. our run d will be better with sapp gone and tommy kelly taking over, we can draft atiyba rubin in the fourth round, he would be safer. and tommy Phillip scored the raiders what 6 touchdowns, how many did he give up, farve and walker burned him for 3 in a half of football. Draft Mcfadden, Dont be a moron. Scorning points wins games in the regular season, you gotta stop the run in the playoffs, Offense wins in the regular season. you will see.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Kiff loves ellis trade back with the jets and get a second rounder he recruited him to SC and he will help take up Olinelineman
April 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
Good morning people.
I have said a few times before that I thought the player the NYJ and NE really like is Gholston, he´s an ideal fit for both.
And now KC is in a position to perhaps grab Gholston as Jared Allen´s replacement (I´m sure they would sell him as the next Derrick Thomas).
Point is, I´m not buying the Jets McFadden hype, I think it´s Gholston they want and they know NE wants him too, KC just became anoher suitor which leaves us as the team to deal with for Gholston.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:55 am
No way we should take a “chance” on Gholston, IMO. The one thing they are questioning is the one thing we can not afford to have them question, taking plays off - desire, etc.!!!
Can’t do it!
I’d rather trade down and take a chance on Harvey or Campbell at DE.
Gholston scares the $hit outta me!
April 26th, 2008 at 8:56 am
Dakota,
No can do. M. Bush is the man at RB.
Ellis at nose would suit me just fine. Between he and Kelly the middle of the D-line would be set for years. Plus Ellis doesn’t fumble.

April 26th, 2008 at 8:57 am
I wonder still… if the lambs dont take long… now that we’re all Mcfantasized… will you be dissapointed if we do take Chris???
April 26th, 2008 at 8:58 am
M,
Thank gosh you do not have to have a brain to play DT.
Ellis: 15 on the Wonderlic.
Ellis would be fine…if we trade down to 9 or 10.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Also, making a good point is pft.com about Gholston “owning” Jake Long, Parcell´s new LT down at Miami, which as you know is a division rival.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:59 am
Bob Marley says the truth, I think the jets are lying also they want golston, Mcfadden is a raider.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:00 am
15???
coming from USC? WOW!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:00 am
Dakota,
15 on the wonderlic justs means that some network will hire him as a commentator like Marino or Emmitt once his playing days are over.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:01 am
If Dorsey is there at 4 I would expect lots of trade offers.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:01 am
1 sack and he owns him?
April 26th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Just heard the latest rumour out on the street. Supposedly the hottest new QB missile Mr J Peg junior is going to be ripping up the nfl in the very near future. Scored 120 on the wonderlic test and is built like a young schwarznegger in his prime. Keep an eye on this guys curls aswell , never stops growing.

April 26th, 2008 at 9:10 am
jhill, but he did have a very good game vs Michigan, so maybe he doesn´t own him but he´s had success against him.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:10 am
Literally foaming at the mouth here at the prospect of the beast that is known as mcfadden. Cant wait to see him bulldozing down the line , almost like a young linford christie, only faster.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:11 am
jus checked out J peg junior on you tube, some awesome play best wide reciever ive seen in a good while, Reports are that he’s on the verge of a Baltimore ravens contract, Raiders need this guy!

DMAC is very valuble, JETS and Dallas want him. As of this moment.
DMAC #32
April 26th, 2008 at 9:13 am
If the draft order goes as follows:
J Long
C Long
Dorsey
What do we do? This is the real fun stuff for the conspiracy theorists in here.
Will Al purposely pick Gholston and trade him to the Jets just to ensure he doesn’t end up in KC?
Glad there’s only 3 hours until we can all get behind the same pick!!
Either C Long, DMac, or a trade down and I’ll be happy.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Hey look everyone its the chocolate rain guy charger fan. hahahahaha you sick B@sTerd. lol
April 26th, 2008 at 9:15 am

April 26th, 2008 at 9:15 am

Al Davis is not going to move down to #10 unless the Saints give us all of their picks this year and their 1,2 and 3rd rounders for next year, or all of their picks this year plus all of their pro-bowl players, lol.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Just heard global superstar The Rock will be gliding down the wing like some sort of aerodynamic falcon for the Ravens. Rumour has he will be wearing his wrestling trunks underneath his pants. Cant wait for it.

April 26th, 2008 at 9:18 am
If we traded down to the Saints pick we better get Rivers.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I would take the siants 10 if they give us R BUSH. He and DMAC are the same in my mind. To me BUSH is even better. Give us R. Bush and your #1 will give you the number 4.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:18 am
I’m sure some of you in the draft pay attention to KC. I’m just hoping everyone KC picks in this draft falls on their face and are busts.
I would love to see Gholston & C Long picked before they pick first and then Clady, Albert, Williams, and Otah are off the board when they pick again at 17.
Carl Peterson has driven KC into the ground and Herm Edwards is only going to repeat history in KC like he did with the Jets.
Peterson will end up with egg on his face for trading away Allen.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Dakota - didn’t say we were going to make the trade. Just stating that the Saints have called us to inquire about the possibility…
April 26th, 2008 at 9:19 am
Thec- I totally agree with you. I mentioned this last night.
If we switched spots with New Orleans and traded away a high pick in next year’s draft it would totally be worth it.
We’d have lots of Bush in the backfield!! lol
April 26th, 2008 at 9:19 am
I know LosT, just putting my two cents in on the mere idea of the trade…I know you were just passing along info. No worries.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:21 am
DSM, I total like the Idea of Having RBUS/MBUSH in the backfield. R Bush has way more swivel than DMAC. What I did noticce about DMAC was he didnt need to use his swive he just out ran everybody.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Is brock lesnar back in the draft this year?
April 26th, 2008 at 9:22 am
The thing with New Orleans is that if the rumors are true and they have worked out a trade for Shockey, they won´t have enough picks left to move up to #4, and why would they move Jammaal Brown a good, young LT?.
But then again, maybe that´s why they have not pulled the trigger on Shockey yet, they could be waiting to see if they can get Dorsey, if not they go for Shockey.
Or, with Ed Orgeron as DL coach, maybe they are just blowing smoke abot a top 4 pick and instead will move up 2 spots for Sedrick Ellis.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:23 am
All teams are contacting each other. Some seriously and others to waste the other teams time and tie up their lines. Just part of draft day gamesmanship.
Kinda like our damn troll.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:24 am
keep fabs…. saints is to far back to trade with unless we get extra picks this year second and third maybe. NO RBUSH
April 26th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Man, I wonder who Miami is going to take. Very exciting!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:24 am
I hope we pick Jake Long.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Thec- I agree. DMac just had the sheer burst of speed within the first 5 yards.
What no really explains well is DMac’s second gear. He can get off quick and just fly. It takes most RB’s 10 yards or more to hit top speed. DMac can be at top speed before ANY of the other RB’s.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Brock Lesnar is not eligible for the draft as he attended training camp with the Vikings and signed a F/A contract even thought he was cut.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:27 am
So far, Steve Mariucci, Mike Lombardi and Charlie Casserly have called McFadden the right pick for the Raiders, all of them include as a major part of their reasoning that he would be a big help for JaMarcus.
Mariucci just called it a no-brainer 15 minutes ago, We´ll see.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Good Morning
I read were still politicking for our perspective guy.
2.50 hours to go, hold on.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:28 am
any day 2 prefrence?????
April 26th, 2008 at 9:29 am
DSM,
Check their 10yard times.
McFadden is middle of the pack. Hell, Stewart gets there faster!!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:29 am
i bet mcfadden had more touchdowns in his first 8 games as a raider than huggy bear has had in his 5 year career, as we speak now, fargas will be a better runner with mcfadden on board, they will both be fresh, then just when defenses think its ok, you throw michela bush at them, its called game over. it will be beautiful to see.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:30 am
DSM, That is what makes this guy so good. He wil need to use his filed vision a little more, but in college he didnt need it. Unoficial, 4.27 40….WTF.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Sounds like Chris Long is the pick!!
AWESOME!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:32 am
just a reminder 40 time is different then game speed, devin hester looks like the fastest guy in football right now and he ran 4.44
April 26th, 2008 at 9:32 am
Dakota…Dakota…Dakota,
Looks more and more that you will be laughing last….
Wow.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Saint
Be careful what you wish for, just slow down, the hype is rabid right now.
Teams start to panic wanting to select a certain guy, just wait nothing is for certain.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:34 am
Parcells went out and acquired LB Ayodele and TE Fasano from Dallas for a 4th round pick, that´s a friggin bargain. Ayodele is solid and a former 3rd and Fasano, a 2006 2nd rounder should thrive out of Witten´s shadow in Miami.
Jerry Jones wil have the Cowboys out of the playoffs in 2009.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:35 am
Ive read today on one of the articles on raidernews.com that the Raiders arent overwhelmed with Michael Bush speed/explosion and was a big reason that he was not activated.
yet more signs Dakota was right all along.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:36 am
The thing i am looking forward to is having DMAC, and MBUSH on the field at the same time. DMAC posing some very interesting posibilities. We can line this dud up all over th place. After today our oofensive playbook
will have gotten a little bigger.
If i am ted cotrell the DCO for the dischargers i am looking to change my approach to the Raiders.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:36 am
I thought fasano leaving dallas hurts the dallas run game more and more, he’s a great blocker, yo bob im listening to burning spear on youtube, do ya dig winston rodney.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:36 am
MIA,
I don’t know, anything could happen…I am worried about the Jets jumping up to 3 and stealing McFadden. If that occurs, I hope we trade down with the Saints and get Rivers or Clady.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:36 am
Culpepper and McFadden could’ve been a dream backfield.
Cpepp in the huddle, “Whose turn is it to fumble this time?”
DMc, “Can’t remember, but I can do it if you manage to hand off to me without fumbling first.”
April 26th, 2008 at 9:36 am
What about Mendenhall, could we trade back further and still land a stud RB and multiple picks?
April 26th, 2008 at 9:38 am
Come on M,
We all know that most of McDadden’s fumbles came on direct snaps and kick returns, neither of which he will be doing in the NFL.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:38 am
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIDEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSS!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:39 am
mendenhall = rhodes
April 26th, 2008 at 9:39 am
M, that (191) was funny though.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:40 am
PFT is reporting the Raiders tried to move up to the number 2 spot with a trade with the Rams, it’s speculated they want Dorsey.
PFT.com
April 26th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Im not crazy about Mendenhall…Love Jonathan Stewart..he is another Bettis/Jamal Lewis with more speed and elusive moves.
Mendenhall’s body of work is based on practically just ONE year, albeit a very good one.
When comparing the two..JStew is much better for long term…turf toe and all.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:41 am
RAIDERS TRIED TO GET UP TO NO. 2?
Posted by Mike Florio on April 26, 2008, 12:37 p.m.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network mentioned earlier on the air that the Raiders were one of the teams that called the Rams about moving up to No. 2.
If so, who did the Raiders want? Surely not Matt Ryan. And with the Falcons presumed to be trying to choose between Ryan and defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, it could be that the Raiders were interested in getting up to No. 2 to get Dorsey.
So why do we mention this? Because Dorsey by all appearances will be on the board when the Raiders pick at No. 4, which will push Darren McFadden down to No. 5, and that will be the first realistic opportunity for the Cowboys to try to move up and get him.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Dakota
Worry not about NYJ, it´s a smokescreen, they´re after Ghoslton, perhaps Ryan.
Josh Mosley…Burning Spear it´s an excellent choice.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:42 am
You DMAC supporters, “whew” close one there, maybe they are going DL. HAHAHHA
April 26th, 2008 at 9:42 am
We wanted Chris Long!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Dell, if Al is that dumb I will again circulate the petition to have Al committed.
What are going to give the Rams to move up? Rob Ryan and Fabian? A bucket of chicken wings and a 6 pack of Bud? Our next 3 drafts?
April 26th, 2008 at 9:43 am
Fabian for Chris Long….Any F*^$*( Day!!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:43 am
Dakota
Add Alyssa Milllano to the trade.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:44 am
I dont know that i beleive anything was wrong with MBUSH. IMO BUSH was sat down becuase we would have had to cut one of our RB’s. They would have went to the donkeys, or the cooks. The reports i have heard are he is a beast period
April 26th, 2008 at 9:44 am
Dell,
Alyssa is an aging vet, but I think she still has something in the tank.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:46 am
I watched MBush on You Tube. It was not a great highlight reel. He looked to go easy.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Haven’t seen Mendenhall at all, don’t expect to trade that far down anyway. I just can’t shake the feeling that we need o-line. Almost nobody talks about it, but JaMarcus with time, sounds really nice.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:46 am
I agree thec…in fact he was quoted saying he felt like a caged bull!
Just read one report on raidernews.com that stated some staff members say he lacks NFL speed/explosion…maybe just a goal line back.
Hey honestly after that injury NOBODY here knows how he is going to react on first contact with NFL linebackers and DLinemen
April 26th, 2008 at 9:46 am
I’m wondering is Adam Schefter ever right, is he like our own blogger here Alameda Insider, he throws so much out, we need to keep track of all the BS!
April 26th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Well, the Chiefs are now on the clock.
Michael Smith of ESPN reports that the Oakland Raiders will select Arkansas running back Darren McFadden with the fourth overall pick in the draft.
The Raiders were able to make their decision because the Fins have signed Jake Long, and it’s being widely reported that the Rams will take Chris Long and the Falcons will select Matt Ryan at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
So we’re actually a little bit ahead of where we would have been if the draft had started at noon.
The Chiefs are on the clock.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:47 am
#10 and Reggie Bush for #4?
April 26th, 2008 at 9:47 am

More PFT…
“With the No. 1 overall under contract and media reports indicating who the next three picks will be, some league insiders are wondering whether one or more of the reported picks is bullsh-t.
“In order for these reports to be true, someone from inside the war room has to be breaching the confidence of their own team,” one league source said.
So the goal could be to intentionally put out bad information in order to get another team to trade up, now that they see that the guy they want is being strongly linked to another team.
The other dynamic is that some of the guys who are in the war room aren’t truly in the loop about what a team plans to do.”
Indeed, Michael Smith of ESPN’s report as to the Raiders at No. 4 is that McFadden is the guy “unless someone vows them with a trade.”

hey bob what ya think of atiybah rubin in the fourth round from iowa state, then in the 6th fernando valesco the center from georgia, devon bess after that. then grove can be dealt, along with fabian, stu, rhodes, for picks also.
April 26th, 2008 at 10:09 am
My sources tell me Al is going to draft Rogers-Cromartie at 4.

Hey for those of you that were asking what Jamarcus Russell’s Wonderlic score was, my recollection is that it was 27. A 27 equates to an IQ of 114. The math is Wonderlic score times 2 plus 60. i.e. 27 X 2= 54. 54 + 60= 114. 114 would be considered a high average or high normal IQ. However, my recollection of Wonderlic score of 27 is just that, my recollection.

the falcons may still take dorsey but otherwise the top 4 seems just as everyone expected

Josh..I would not mind Rubin at all and I don´t really know anything about Velasco and Bess, other than he played at Hawaii…rather take a flyer on head-case Bowman.

You are definitely right about #3. Somehow we are going to trade down, pick up a second round pick and go for Ellis. I also agree that sometime between the 2nd & third round, after the top 3 CB’s are gone, Fabian will be traded for a 3rd & 5th round pick. It’s also possible if ATL passes on Ryan in the 1st round instead taking Dorsey, AW comes into play for a possible 2nd round pick.

dmac to raiders= smokescreen we take dorsey
April 26th, 2008 at 10:19 am
also an offensive tackle later on would be good,
defensive tackle in the fourth i think rubin would make a good player, in a rotation with kelly playin all the time, and warren, sands, and rubin, then joseph can play if he makes the team. i expect the raiders to sign alot of undrafted free agents, could be a couple of good ones. i think the center from georgia would be a great pick in the seventh if he’s there.

April 26th, 2008 at 10:20 am
exactly right dakota, 24, is was just about to post the same thing, and an IQ score of 104 equates to average intellect, but an IQ score is just that, a score, it’s not constant, it changes based on what the questions are, what mood you’re in, how much sleep you get, what you ate for breakfast……it’s not a reliable indicater of intelligence, but unfortunately it may be the best measurement of one’s ability to compute complicated abstractions, but don’t put too much into it…..

Frozen,
I used to live outside Fairbanks. I can empathize. Supposed to be in the 80s here in the Bay Area today. That’s good news isn’t it?

Jamarcus Russell was actually an honor student at LSU and in HS, but his souther accent distorts his intelligence
