Washington dealt for pick

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, April 27th, 2008 at 9:20 am in Oakland Raiders.

Cornerback Fabian Washington was dealt to Baltimore for a fourth-round draft pick, No. 125 overall.

Washington was a first-round draft pick in 2005 that the Raiders had traded from No. 26 to No. 23 to draft. He lost his starting job to Stanford Routt last season and was further pushed into the background with the trade for Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

When the Raiders brought out Hall for an interview session Thursday, the new acquisition was detailing the strengths of the Raiders secondary and never mentioned Washington, who the club has been actively shopping.

Washington was involved in a domestic disturbance in the offseason which will require counseling.

Native, that’s a bad comparison and irrelevant. What matters is what happens on the field and we were no better stopping the run with Kelly/Sands ON THE FIELD together.

Sure it is ! I was comparing that just because you draft someone doesn’t mean they will work out!
Hey I am not the one that signed them!

  11. Sec 129 Says:

he was a backup who plays behind standford rout. he also beats his GF…. I figure as long as this pick is better then rout then we did good..

  17. Mistabrown Says:

Can someone tell me why Rhodes, Fargas, or Jordan wasnt dealt ??????

  18. Chris Sproule Says:

You guys are so depressing to read, you really over analyze every move. You have no idea how these draft picks will do in the NFL. Let them play a little and then judge them, I’m going to guess those that make the decisions for the Raiders know more then us.

  19. S&B 5253 Says:

LMN, whats your take on Beau Bell. I’m from Vegas and he was a stud for us (probably the only good player on UNLV). Before combine Mayock had him as the 5th ranked ILB, but he did not run a good 40 time so he slipped

  20. Bob Marley Says:

Well, at least it should make for great races in practice….Hall, Routt, McFadden, Branch, Huff, Bowie, JLH…all run 4.3 40’s…u guys feel better now?.

  21. BART Bridge Balla Says:

The Ravens just stole Fabian Washington from us, pathetic

  22. Aeyjay Says:

Tommy Trojan , if you mean Jeremy Thompson he went to the pack at 102?

  23. Pirate Arrrgghhhhhhh Says:

    sick about trading F.Wash. Sick.

    Happy about everything else.

could WR Dexter Jackson be the pick? The DTs on the board are crap.

  24. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

    John David Booty lol

  25. Native Says:

Jordan will likely be cut not dealt notice Kiffin didn’t mention him in the equation during yesterdays press conference?!

  26. S&B 5253 Says:

    Does not matter anymore

  27. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Were keeping Fargas mista thats for sure.

  28. Dakota Says:

Sorry TT, no such thing as a second round kick returner…just like there is no such thing as a first round kicker…except in Al’s deranged world.

  29. BART Bridge Balla Says:

we are probably getting John David Booty with our next pick

  30. DoeDoe Says:

We needed a return man (Rhodes is not that ans) and a solid backup just in case Gibril or Huff get hurt - (Coop and Stu are not the answer) - At least we got another 4th rounder - From wanting a 2nd rounder for Fab to settling for a 4th rounder - They better go LT prospect

  31. Blackholepriest Says:

What did they get for Washington?

  32. Native Says:

    JAMI SILVA!!! lol

  33. raidersareawesome417 Says:

well i wish fabes good luck and am kinda depressed to see him go because i liked him but i think we could have gotten more for him…

  34. RadRaider Says:

this is where cable said the zbs lineman would be

  35. Tommy Trojan Says:

FVCK! thompson and collins are off the board either one could have started at DE or LT

  36. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    Tommy

I am happy with this pick…. It was a need unless we want our 70 million dollar man returning kicks…. Not so sure about McFad though but Kiffin needs some tools…

  37. Al Davis Says:

dexter jackson went to the bucs in the 2nd so he likely wont b the pick

  38. Graider Says:

Agree that this is not much for Washington, but we must have been shopping him hard for weeks and this was all we could get.

It’s not like Balt was the only team that could use another corner. So, the price was set by the market, not negotiating skill.

  39. Darren McFadden Says:

Stop being a bunch of whiners. Where was Fabian going to play for us? 4th cornerback at best? He doesn’t return kicks, he’d SIT THE BENCH. The fact that we got anything is good.

Whomever siad it before, it doesn’t matter what we think, it’s what other teams will give up!

  40. Scottish Raider Says:

Fabian Washington never recovered from being embarrased by Johnson and the Bengals in 2006. The way that Manning and Gonsalves just bullied him last season was the last straw.

  41. Blackholepriest Says:

I’m not sure what they’re doing over there but I’m very concerned why are we giving players away?

  42. oliverthizz Says:

Luckily, there are still good D-lineman on board. If we still get one AND got Branch out of it, it will be great.

  43. FirstTimer Says:

    17. yet…

  44. Tommy Trojan Says:

dakote, hester was the last pure KR to get a 2nd round grade……….

  45. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    To all

Do you really think you are going to get a DT thats better than Sands (let alone Kelly) in the 4th round after the run on DTs that has been going on?

  46. Raider Glory Says:

    TT…Dakota…..

    Congrats guys……
    We got DMAC……Whata GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Has anyone heard from BHP or Huff24!!!

Their probably crying in their Margaritas!!

I hope they come on board w/DMAC!!

I am very happy to say the least!!

I won so many lunches yesterday!! It was a GREAT day!!

  47. Bob Marley Says:

I´m calling it right now….Tyvon Branch, soon to be Pro Bowl AFC Special Teamer.

How´s that for a positive spin?.

  48. Tommy Trojan Says:

bhp, we got #125, THAT is giving away………but it’s not the # of the pick, it’s how you use it

  49. oliverthizz Says:

Im not so concerned that we gave up Fabe. ill glady replace Fabe with Branch and a solid DT.

  50. raidersareawesome417 Says:

    #31

they got pick number 125….thats it

  51. Blackholepriest Says:

this is starting to look like a bad draft I’m sorry for kick returner?? are you kiddin’

    Overview
One of the terms used to describe a defensive lineman is that the player is an efficient “run stuffer.” Perhaps no one player has been more important to his team in shutting down the opposition’s running game than Joseph “Red” Bryant.

In the eight games that he appeared in for the Aggies in 2006, they allowed just 75.35 yards per game on the ground. In the five contests Bryant sat out due to a knee injury, TAMU was tagged for 229.2 yards per game rushing.

Selected one of the squad captains as a redshirt freshman, Bryant has dominated vs. the run since he first start in College Station. In three seasons in the middle of the Aggies’ defense, Bryant has made 83 plays vs. the run, holding the opposition to only 46 yards (0.55 yards per attempt).

As a sophomore, he was a force, making 31 running plays that saw his opponent be held to an incredible minus-27 yards (minus-0.87-yard average). He followed that performance with 19 running plays for 12 yards (0.63-yard average) during his injury-shortened junior year.

At Jasper High School, Bryant earned first-team 3A All-State honors from the Texas Sports Writers Association and was one of eight finalists for the Willie Ray Smith Award, presented to the top offensive and defensive players in Southeast Texas. The consensus Texas Top 100 recruit added District and Golden Triangle Defensive Most Valuable Player honors during his senior season.

Bryant was the recipient of the 2001 District Defensive Player of the Year Award and was named the Southeast Texas Defensive Player of the Year by the Beaumont Enterprise. In addition to starring on the gridiron, Red also was a standout forward on the school’s basketball team.

Bryant enrolled at Texas A&M in 2003, competing on the scout team, earning that squad’s Defensive Work MVP accolades. He was a “4×4″ performer during the team’s 2004 off-season conditioning program, tying the school record in the hang clean (385 pounds, but has since set a new mark at 407 pounds). He was so well-respected by his teammates that he was named to the Leadership Council and served as game captain in his first year with the varsity.

In 2004, Bryant took over nose tackle duties, starting all 12 contests. He earned Freshman All-American and All-Big Twelve Conference honors from The Gridiron Report, as he totaled 34 tackles (nine solo) with an assisted sack, 3 ½ stops behind the line of scrimmage and three quarterback pressures. He also deflected two passes and blocked a kick. In 33 plays vs. the run, the opposition managed just 61 yards (1.85 yards per carry) vs. Bryant.

Bryant added All-Big Twelve Conference first-team and All-American third-team honors from The NFL Draft Report in 2005. He recorded just 30 tackles (eight solo) with three sacks, 8 ½ stops for losses and a pressure, but also caused two fumbles and deflected a pass. It was his dominance vs. the run that stood out. In 31 running plays, he held the opposition to minus-27 yards (minus-0.87-yard average). What makes that figure even more impressive was the fact that the rest of the Aggies’ defense struggled. TAMU allowed 139.18 yards per game on the ground and ranked 107th in the nation, giving up 443.82 yards in total offense per game.

The team’s permanent captain proved what a leadership was all about in 2006. He again manhandled the opposition in the trenches as a junior, making 19 plays vs. the run that netted the opposition just 12 yards (0.63-yard average). He made a valiant effort to play with an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his right knee, but he agreed to have surgery prior to the Texas game.

In nine games, he had 19 tackles (seven solo), a sack, 2 ½ stops behind the line of scrimmage, five pass deflections and a blocked kick. With Bryant sidelined, the team gave up 229.2 yards per game on the ground in their final five contests. However, thanks to his stellar play in the first nine games, the Aggies’ defense showed marked improvement, allowing 322.62 yards per game in total offense, compared to 443.82 yards the previous season.

Back on the playing field in 2007, Bryant continued his dominance vs. the run, as he allowed 43 yards on 42 plays directed at him (team gave up 1,491 yards on the ground) in the team’s first 10 games. He recorded 41 tackles (11 solo) with an 11-yard sack, six stops for losses of 19 yards and seven quarterback pressures. He also registered a safety on his only QB sack, blocked a field goal and caused a fumble that set up an A&M touchdown drive.

In 42 games at Texas A&M, Bryant started 41 games. He recorded 124 tackles (37 solo) with 6 ½ sacks for minus-53 yards, 20 ½ stops for losses of 92 yards and 12 quarterback pressures. He caused three fumbles, deflected nine passes, blocked three kicks and recorded a safety.

    Analysis
Positives: Has a well-proportioned, thick and muscular frame that has room for further growth development without having the additional weight impact his impressive quickness … Has long arms, adequate hand size, thick thighs and calves, showing solid muscle tone throughout, especially in his broad shoulders … With his wide hips and thick lower body, it is very tough for blockers to gain movement off the snap vs. him … Shows keen awareness to the play developing … More of a run-containment type, but has the savvy and agility to slip blocks and wreak havoc in the backfield … Quick to find the football in pursuit and is not the type that will bite on play action or misdirection … Was called the team’s “most important player” by the coaching staff, as they use his hard work as an example for the younger players to follow … Clocked at 4.95 in the 40-yard dash, he carries his equipment well and, by keeping his pads down and hands within his frame, he generates good movement off the snap … Can surprise a lethargic blocker and slip past double teams with his burst, showing the strength needed to get a good push off his man … Excels at neutralizing multiple blockers and has that hip shake you want when trying to execute counter moves (this allows a teammate to be free to make the play) … .Quick to fill the rush lane and shows good creativity and spin moves shooting the gaps … Very combative with his hands and has the strength to shock and control an opponent when he locks on … Shows good power in attempts to disengage and is quite nimble when attacking the backfield … Type that demands constant double-team attention from his opponent, as he is very hard to move off the line … When he plants his feet and settles in for a battle, he uses his low center of gravity to gain leverage and he keeps his feet free, demonstrating very effective two-gap potential … His quick arm-over action and upper-body strength let him consistently beat his blocker off the snap … Keeps his hands active, even in tight quarter, staying within his frame to do a nice job of protecting his body from cut blocks … Has very good strength behind his hits and is an efficient wrap-up tackler with the long arms to engulf the perimeter runners … .Demonstrates the lateral agility to push the outside running game back inside and the field vision to quickly locate the cutback lanes … Because of his wide frame and brute strength, when he makes a collision tackle, he instantly stops the ballcarrier’s momentum — will generally attack the runner’s outside leg to impede forward progress … In 125 running plays directed at him, opponents managed to gain just 89 yards (0.71 yards per carry) … Immovable object at the point of attack and is quick to hunker down and fill the rush lanes … Has the short-area burst to close in a hurry and comes out of his stance with his hands ready to lock on, control and shed his blockers … Quick to stack at the point of attack and uses his low center of gravity and strength to gain leverage and hold his ground firmly … Best when playing over the center’s head or giving a good arm-over action to gain advantage over the outside shoulder of the guards in attempts to apply pressure … Tough to defend in the short area when moving down the line and is very conscious of low blocks and how to avoid them … Knows how to time his leaps to get his fair share of pass deflections at the line of scrimmage … Alert for angle blocks and traps, using his hands effectively to counter.

Negatives: Diagnosed with dyslexia, but has overcome the issue and does well both academically and in retaining plays … Will short-arm at times, but stays after the blocker when doing so, using his body lean to get a push … Has good pursuit ability in the short area, but despite his timed speed, he will labor at times when running long distances … In long pursuit, he will get a bit high in his stance and narrow his base. When this happens, he fails to keep his feet free and while he can get over trash, he will get a little out of control … There is no leakage when working inside, but he will get a little out of control and miss tackles when operating in space … Has the speed to close, but must develop more pass-rush moves to become a threat … Uses mostly swim and rip moves, but with his hand strength, he should be more efficient when trying to club … Shows good agility squeezing the pocket, but when he gets narrow in his base coming off the edge, blockers can have some success forcing him out.

Compares To: CASEY HAMPTON-Pittsburgh … Bryant is bigger, faster and stronger than Hampton, but both play with great anticipation and short-area explosion to dominate vs. the run. Bryant is very good at neutralizing double teams and has few peers when it comers to shutting down the inside running game. He is a tireless worker in the trenches who has not been used much as a pass rusher, but with his speed, lateral agility and strength, he could develop nicely there if a patient coaching staff teaches him proper technique. Whether in a 3-4 as a nose guard or in a 4-3 alignment as a defensive tackle, few blockers at the professional level will have success containing him.

    Injury Report
2006: Sat out the Baylor game after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee vs. Oklahoma State, but returned the following week vs. Oklahoma. Underwent surgery to repair knee damage on Nov. 17, missing the Aggies’ final games vs. Nebraska, Texas and California.

    Agility Tests
    Campus: 4.95 in the 40-yard dash … Bench pressed 225 pounds 38 times … 440-pound bench press … 680-pound squat … 407-pounf hang clean (school record) … 29.5-inch vertical jump … 9′2″ long jump … 33 3/8-inch arm length … 9-inch hands … Right-handed … 17/20 Wonderlic score.

    High School
Attended Jasper (Tex.) High School, playing football for head coach Danny Lauve … Earned first-team 3A All-State honors from the Texas Sports Writers Association and was one of eight finalists for the Willie Ray Smith Award, presented to the top offensive and defensive players in Southeast Texas … Consensus Texas Top 100 recruit, adding District and Golden Triangle Defensive Most Valuable Player honors during his senior season … Recipient of the 2001 District Defensive Player of the Year Award and was named the Southeast Texas Defensive Player of the Year by the Beaumont Enterprise … In addition to starring on the gridiron, Bryant also was a standout forward on the school’s basketball team.

    Personal
Agricultural Leadership and Development major … Four-time member of the school’s Leadership Council … Son of Annette and Joseph Bryant … Nicknamed “Red” … Born Joseph Anthony Bryant on 4/18/84 … Resides in Jasper, Texas.

Native, good grief. I don’t care about draft status but rather continuing to play people that don’t get it done. And Big Al and Co. continuing to tell us about how well they have played while we get thrashed at the line of scrimmage. Even I can see that and I need glasses.

  65. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    Another point

If there was a DT that Oakland was high on they would have taken him with the pick instead of Branch. What we will get if we go DT at this point is someone who will compete for a roster spot and in time if all goes well (and Sands does not improve) maybe eventually supplant Sands. Also depth since Kelly is coming off an injury. I guess the concept of best available athlete is only in theory - we needed to upgrade our ST as well as our interior line. Except for the Chicago game our STs were a disapointment and the return game a big disapointment.

  66. raidersareawesome417 Says:

tyvon branch will be a great return man as long as he doesnt cough up the ball every other return like higgins

I’m guessing there were multiple linemen identified by Cable when we pulled the trigger on Washington this far ahead of #125 (i.e., to have the confidence #125 will give us a targeted player). Otherwise, I think we would have kept Washington for a post-draft player package.

  70. Bob Marley Says:

We´ll love Branch down the road….Special teams matter more than ever, but I´m still kinda pissed..it all depends on who we get next.

The Oakland Raiders executed a trade with the Dallas Cowboys and moved up from the 104th overall pick to the 100th selection (#1 in the 4th round) and selected University of Connecticut CB Tyvon Branch.

  76. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Calm down…Special Teams is very important to winning! Look how many games were changed because of Cribbs, Devin, Dante Hall (we remember those)

Not to mention he will be a ferocious hitter in the Safety position were we NEEDED depth after cutting Stu.

Let do the grading after we make our selection with the pick we got from the Ravens addressing either DL or OL…Cable does majic on the later rounds.

  77. Al Davis Says:

and by the way sands and kelly were both picked AFTER the 4th round, so shut ur yapper

  78. Tommy Trojan Says:

noluv, about a hit of 800 Gs

  79. raidersareawesome417 Says:

anyone else mad that dan conner is off the board?

  80. Brien Says:

    Frank Okam sucks

  81. Raider Glory Says:

Tyvon Branch…Fastest CB in the draft I believe!!

    What a surprise?? huh??

  82. RaidingTexas Says:

Would you stop with the 1,000+ word posts already?

  83. Tommy Trojan Says:

dre moore is off the board

  84. RadRaider Says:

    lmn tampa at 115

  85. They Call Me Assassin Says:

LMN - Tampa Bay just took Dre Moore with the 115th pick.

  86. raiders2 Says:

For people that say we could have gotten more for Fabian, no we couldn’t. Al had to be calling every team in the 3rd round offering Fabian up, but he must have been rejected. Its not like Al said “I’d rather just trade you Washington in the 4th round even though your offering a third.”

  87. Brien Says:

Frank Okam stinks………only DT to pick up now is Athyba Rubin

  88. Bob Marley Says:

You just know Shanny will snag Red Byant 5 picks in front of us…

  89. They Call Me Assassin Says:

Damn, Dre Moore would’ve been nice.

  90. Kirk Says:

So far in this draft we have gotten…

    Darren McFadden
    DeAngelo Hall
    Mario Henderson
    Gerald Warren
    Tyvon Branch

  91. raidersareawesome417 Says:

one thing that has cheered me up is that the eagles keep picking lineman that they dont need and my little brother is a die hard eagle fan and its driving him nuts LOL!!!!

  92. Blackholepriest Says:

I got nothin’ against Branch he didn’t pick himself an he probably is a quality DB, it’s just that this is NOT what I’m used to.

Who ever got Fabian is dancing in halls

  93. oliverthizz Says:

    Bucs got Dre Moore.

  94. Tommy Trojan Says:

glory, he’s the best KR in the draft……….better than Jackson and Avery

  95. Bob Marley Says:

not a bad catch after all Kirk…

  96. oliverthizz Says:

    92. Actually, should be EXACTLY what youre used by now.

  97. La Milicia Negra Says:

    RadRaider & Assassin

than bros, I guess the lag is about one pick then, because bills just picked here

  98. DoeDoe Says:

between Tyvon Branch and Darren McFadden they have 21 brothers and sisters!

  99. Tommy Trojan Says:

    good call kirk

  100. They Call Me Assassin Says:

    no problem LMN

  101. kevn Says:

Tyvon Branch is not THAT great of a return guy. His numbers are nothing remarkable, and we got Carr as an undrafted free agent to return kicks for years. If Branch can really play safety, then that’s different, but he played CB in college, so I’m not sure where that’s even coming from? His size?

  102. Tommy Trojan Says:

iwebema is off the board but robertson and bryant are still there

  103. La Milicia Negra Says:

I hope our next pick will be Xavier Adibi, ILB

  104. Brien Says:

    Fabs is a zone CB

  105. dirtyred Says:

Why do we always give away good guys for low picks?

  106. Raider Glory Says:

    TT,

I’m sure the Raiders thought the Rams were going to pull the trigger on Branch!!

I’m glad we jumped over the Rams and snagged him!!

The Rams must be pissed off!!!

    YES baby!!

  107. They Call Me Assassin Says:

Does anyone know if Paul Hubbard has been drafted yet? WR from Wisconsin.

  108. Raider Glory Says:

    Fabian was a sorry CB!!

I got tired of him getting burned!!

    Be realistic!!

  109. Bob Marley Says:

nfldraftscout.com compares Tyvon Branch to Eugene Wilson.

  110. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

thanks tommy, i am hoping that we trade rhodes and stu for more picks

  111. Blackholepriest Says:

Guy’s this doesn’t look good, second year in row we was robbed. And I’m gettin’ pissed.

  112. raiders2 Says:

For everyone who’s clamoring for a DT, my bet is that it won’t happen, we’ll pick an o-lineman or reciever or linebacker. Do you guys seriously think some 4th round pick will start over T Sands at the nose? Dont think so. If Sands gets his head on straight hes a beast. We have good depth too with Warren and Joseph. We need a DE opposite Burgess more, and we should be ok there too with improving Richardson and our “new Clemons” Kalimba Edwards.

  113. oliverthizz Says:

    Man, there goes Adibi

  114. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    There goes Xavier Adibi!!!!!!!!!!!

  115. They Call Me Assassin Says:

Adibi would be another great pick. Lot’s of value in this round as per Tommy Trojan’s suggestion yesterday. It would be nice to have two or three picks in this round. We could easily grab three starters in this round for great value.

SHEET, Adibi just went to the Texans as I’m writing.

  116. Bob Marley Says:

A college CB moved to Safety in NE.

  117. BART Bridge Balla Says:

branch’s scouting report said that he is much better in zone coverage, than man. could be a kiffin pick that he snuck past Al

  118. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    Al Davis

I know when Sands and Kelly were drafted! It took them years to develop and frankly one of them has not developed yet in the case of Sands. That is why I said I am not so sure about McFad as a pick. I am also definitly not comfortable with the Kelly signing. However I can definetely see the wisdom in getting a 2nd round value in the 4th in a need area regarding special teams when your primary returner was let go and Higgens who was supposed to be good was not last year.

  119. La Milicia Negra Says:

    RaiderGlory…

my thoughts too, but then they look at Chris Long and they look at our Mcfadden and Rams say to themselves, let them get that returner

  120. oliverthizz Says:

Actually, I will take anything on the Dline at this point. DT or DE, and maybe even LB

  121. Tommy Trojan Says:

glory, the rams got king, who is right there with branch but more of a pure CB, i doubt they’re worried, especially since they have avery to return now

  122. La Milicia Negra Says:

MAAAAAaaan Eagles draft has been real good

  123. exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

Fabian reminded me of Elvis Patterson. He referred himself as the ghost but we all called him burnt toast.

  124. Bob Marley Says:

Here comes rat-face to take Bryant

  125. ohioraider Says:

hopefully carl nicks OT from nebraska is the pick or a DT

  126. Bob Marley Says:

    or not

  127. Blackholepriest Says:

Why not Adibi or Highsmith or a MLB what the hell are we picking a kick returner this high?

  128. oliverthizz Says:

Yeah, in all honesty, Washington sucked. But lets just hope we get value from the pick.

  129. DoeDoe Says:

    LMN

Where did your boy from norte dame go?

  130. Tommy Trojan Says:

5 picks ahead of us, lets hope they leave hills and/or robertson

  131. La Milicia Negra Says:

    dammit, Texans took our linebacker

  132. La Milicia Negra Says:

    DoeDoe…

    eagles of course

  133. Huff24 Says:

Round 4, Pick 1 (100) (From Dolphins through Cowboys) Tyvon Branch CB 6′0″ 204 Connecticut
Pick Analysis:Branch is strong, fast and has started for four years. His measurables have been exceptional. Branch’s strong workout numbers compare to only five other players at his position and four have played in the Pro Bowl, while the fifth is a quality contributor in the NFL.

  134. Coach on Wheels Says:

Well, it’s nice to see Al is still in denial about the D.
    1st RB McFadden
2nd CB D Hall (via trade)
    3rd - none
    4th - KR Branch

  136. Dakota Says:

    mcfadden being discussed on BSPN

  137. La Milicia Negra Says:

Texans gonna fight for AFC in a few years

  138. Pirate Arrrgghhhhhhh Says:

not just kick returns, but how many TDs and long returns did we give up on punt coverage. If this guy is the top gunner in the draft, and can replace Carr returning kicks, and backup at safety, then…..

    I’m all for it, happy.

  139. They Call Me Assassin Says:

Thank you very much Michael W Smith.

  140. Mike J. Says:

There is still value here in the 4th round (as per some of the NFL draftniks). Off-topic: Mike Hart is still available for a team other than us.

  141. Huff24 Says:

Remember the year we drafted Asomugha when Charles Woodson was on the franchise tag? This time, we drafted Branch with Asomugha on the franchise tag. Lets hope they sign Aso to a contract.

  142. Blackholepriest Says:

I don’t know the kid but Big AL picked that kid not Kiffin trust me.

  143. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Dakota…

sorry , but couldn’t care less. I don’t believe something will come up that haven’t been discussed here

  144. Jhill Says:

I actaully can live with the Branch pick.

Round 4, Pick 1 (100) (From Dolphins through Cowboys) Tyvon Branch CB 6′0″ 204 Connecticut

Branch is strong, fast and has started for four years. His measurables have been exceptional. Branch’s strong workout numbers compare to only five other players at his position and four have played in the Pro Bowl, while the fifth is a quality contributor in the NFL.

  147. kevn Says:

There goes Dre Moore. I wasn’t too high on him anyway.

  148. Tommy Trojan Says:

LMN, you’re going to see an Oakland(or Los Angeles) v. Houston AFC Championship game in a few years

  149. SouthFlaRaider Says:

Raiders will take Giacomini from Louisville or Nicks from Nebraska.

  150. VoldemortSupporter Says:

some doofis on BSPN is talking crap about J Rock and the raiders receivers…typical

  151. Jim (ct raider) Says:

Jerry: you’re welcome for noticing Hall never mentioned Washington!

We still have more fat to deal.

    CT RAIDER

  152. La Milicia Negra Says:

    BHP…

why should we trust you, last night you said they wouldn’t trade Fabian for a 3rd, now the did it for even less

  153. SouthFlaRaider Says:

Any chance we give Seabass the boot this year. A lot of money for an average kicker. Great boot, just not accurate. He costs us too many close games every year.

  154. Mike J. Says:

  155. Blackholepriest Says:

    LMN, then don’t

  156. SouthFlaRaider Says:

Coutu is there and he is far better than Seabass.

  157. kevn Says:

    Bye, Red Bryant

  158. Midwest fan Says:

    Bryant off the board.

  159. R8R_ERN Says:

    so much for RED Dakota

  160. BART Bridge Balla Says:

Later Red…hope you suck, you big ass slouch..

  166. Ryan Says:

    Damn! Red is gone

  167. Tommy Trojan Says:

    south, Breno would be awesome

  168. La Milicia Negra Says:

    what happened with pick 20?

19 (118) Houston Texans Adibi, Xavier LB

    20 (119)Denver Broncos (From Redskins)

21 (120)Chicago Bears (From Buccaneers) Steltz, Craig S

  169. ohioraider Says:

looks like we are going to have to live with the terd

  170. CorpRaiderNYC Says:

    There goes “Red” Bryant

  171. kevn Says:

I would love to get Breno!!!

  172. SouthFlaRaider Says:

Anybody know anything about Levelle Hawkins from Cal? Don’t watch much Pac 10 football.

  173. Tommy Trojan Says:

Darrell Robertson DE Georgia Tech is the best player available in the draft right now………TAKE HIM!!!

  174. R8R_ERN Says:

I can’t belive we have not addressed Defense, must be Al Davis and Rob Ryan hitting the scotch.

  175. Ryan Says:

It must be a OL that Cable has his eyes on with 125

  176. Dakota Says:

al would have passed on him anyhow. i think we go long-snapper @125.

  177. BART Bridge Balla Says:

with big red gone, we might see Kiffin grab the nose tackle from his alma mater; Jason Shirley

  178. La Milicia Negra Says:

    BHP…

I’m just a bit angry today. but I think you’re right the first pick seems like a real Al trade and pick…but is still don’t trust you =)

  179. They Call Me Assassin Says:

LMN - I suspect you’re tracking the draft at NFL.COM. The Bronco’s pick said “Jack Williams CB” for a brief moment, then it refreshed and the spot was empty. NOt sure what happened.

  180. R8R_ERN Says:

I wanted Adibi and Okam this morning.

  181. kevn Says:

Levelle Hawkins is good but his timed speed is not too impressive considering his slight build.

  182. They Call Me Assassin Says:

I love the idea of Jason Shirley, I think he will be available later though.

  183. ohioraider Says:

carl nicks nebraska was projjected 2nd or 3rd round and can step in a play RT hes massive, cornell green is better suited as a backup

  184. Blackholepriest Says:

Do you think that was smart to give away Fabian, there is something there I don’t know everything those guy’s are there everday I’m not. They do what they think is best and I’m not privy to all things they do.

But that kid was drafted by AL DAVIS, that’s my opinion, what’s yours LMN

  185. They Call Me Assassin Says:

Dallas just took a stud RB. He will be viewed as a steal in the future. Tashard Choice.

  186. Bob Marley Says:

It´s allright, Frank Okam next and Tommy Blake later.

  187. Tommy Trojan Says:

assassin, the BSPN tracker is decent right now, but the nfldraftscout tracker crashed

  188. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Assasin…

yup, that site is totally screwed up. Only 1st round was transmitted here :/

  189. Bob Marley Says:

Jason Shirley will be there at 6th or 7th, like him too

  190. kevn Says:

Jason Shirley in the 6th would be alright with me. He lacks stamina, but he’d be backup at best anyway.

  191. Raider Glory Says:

Defensive line will be the pick!!

    Who’s out there still??

  192. SouthFlaRaider Says:

Excellent pick by the Boys. He is solid.
Kevn, How does Hawkins stack up to Jackson?

  193. Silver&BlackBleeder Says:

I wake up and see we got a cornerback? A cornerback? I mean, what the hell? And we traded Fabe? I’m hearing dude can get converted to a safety so it might work out, but damn I hope we do some O-line/D-line shopping today…….

  194. oliverthizz Says:

Jason Shirley may not even be drafted, but he would be a good pick up

  195. Tommy Trojan Says:

assassin, you’re right about choice but he’ll be barried on the depth chart for a while

  196. BART Bridge Balla Says:

yeah shirley would be 7th or UDFA,
our next pick could be Carl Nicks, maybe Tony Hills, or one of the OLB’s
maybe steve justice, he would be a good fit for us

  197. Dakota Says:

Okam is a last resort pick…fat and lazy, but talented and smart…better than nothing I guess.

Still, Al will select a lockerroom manager or towel boy @ 125.

  198. La Milicia Negra Says:

what about andy crooks, he is a big Linebacker

  199. Tommy Trojan Says:

    S&B, he’s more of a pure KR

  207. Tommy Trojan Says:

    robertson, lets go

  208. They Call Me Assassin Says:

  209. oliverthizz Says:

  210. SouthFlaRaider Says:

D.J. Hall is available. Big guy with hands. Cmon kiff, pull the plug!

  211. They Call Me Assassin Says:

You’re right about Choice being tucked in the Depth Chart Tommy. Perhaps he’s insurance/leverage for Barber negotiations. Jerry can trade Barber and accumulate more picks next year…genius.

  246. SC Raider Says:

    DOES ANYONE HAVE ESPN INSIDER”

Overall: Shields redshirted his first year at Richmond. In his first three active seasons (2004-’06), he played in 34 games and combined for 146 receptions for 1,805 yards (12.4 average) and 13 touchdowns. He shredded Vanderbilt for 12 catches and 107 yards in the 2007 opener but in the Spiders’ second game suffered a knee injury that essentially cost him the season. (Shields returned weeks later to start and make a 14-yard catch against Rhode Island, but didn’t play again the rest of the year.) He also missed Richmond’s final game of 2006 because of an injury. Shields has the tools to develop into a reliable sub-package receiver and he started off the 2007 season with a bang catching 12 passes against Division I Vanderbilt. However, a knee injury forced him to miss most of the rest of the season and the injury coupled with the fact that he lacks … For complete overview, strengths and weaknesses, login above or become an Insider.

    Arman Shields
    Height: 6-03/4 | Weight: 194 | 40-Time: 4.44

    Official Bio

    Strengths:
Nice size and bulk…Good timed speed and can get some separation..Decent route runner…Excellent hands…Good body control…Is tough and aggressive..Works the middle of the field….Adequate blocker…Consistent and productive…Return ability?

    Weaknesses:
Isn’t very explosive and lacks a burst…Marginal ball skills…Not a great leaper…Is not very strong or physical…He may have some health and durability issues…Not real elusive and won’t do much after the catch…Level of competition is a concern.

    Notes:
Had his senior season cut short by a knee injury…Nice small school prospect who could be undervalued after not playing much in ‘07…Tested extremely well at the Scouting Combine ( finished in the top ten at his position in all seven of the main events )…May never be a star but has the talent to make a roster and contribute.

  254. kevn Says:

    PHUCK

  255. raiders2 Says:

    Arman Shields

Strengths: Has adequate foot speed and can get a clean release working against press coverage. Possesses good top-end speed, tracks the ball well and can stretch the field. Reads defenses well and can locate seams when sees zone coverage. Uses shoulder to set up breaks and can get inside leverage on defensive backs. Tough and is fearless going over the middle. Catches the ball in-stride and is fluid turning upfield. Stays focused and makes tough catches in traffic. Catches the ball away from frame and isn’t going to drop many passes that should catch. Takes pride in blocking and flashes the ability to sustain once in position. Shows good restraint rather than getting flagged for clipping when can’t get into position but also has a mean streak and flashes a powerful punch when is able to square up. Plays with emotion and is a competitor. Has experience returning kickoffs and can contribute on special teams.

Weaknesses: Undersized, lacks the frame to comfortably add weight and is going to get pushed around by bigger corners. While is smooth getting in and out of cuts and runs adequate routes, lacks the burst to consistently separate from man coverage. Doesn’t time jumps well and isn’t going to win many jump balls at this point. Is faster than quick, lacks the elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field and isn’t a big-play threat after the catch. Runs too upright and takes some big hits. Played at a small school and there is some concern about ability to adjust to the speed of the game at the NFL level. Missed 2006 season finale with an injury, missed ten games with a season-ending knee injury in 2007 and durability is a concern.
