Rhodes is free to go
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, April 28th, 2008 at 2:21 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Beat writer Steve Corkran, as well as other media outlets, are reporting that running back Dominic Rhodes has been informed he will be waived by the Raiders.
Rhodes was pushed down the depth chart with the selection of Darren McFadden with the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL draft. He hits the open market having rushed for more than 100 yards in the Raiders’ last two games of the season against fairly stout rushing defenses _ Jacksonville and San Diego.
He initially agreed to return at a reduced rate to Oakland, a move the Raiders probably felt they had to make in case they didn’t land McFadden.
LaMont Jordan still remains under contract, but remains highly unlikely to remain with salaries of $4.7 and $5 million over the next two seasons.

Suffice to say we’ll go into the season with Fargas/Bush/McFadden …still very Solid
April 28th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
3rd?
April 28th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Good luck, Dom.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
who said Burgess is/was on the trading block?
April 28th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Jordan will probably be released after June 1st.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Jordan shoulda been first to go.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Someone thinks they can probably get something in trade for Jordan.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Jordan/Rhodes what is the difference? Jordan will be gone too.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Personally, I liked what I saw of Rhodes. Too bad they couldn’t trade Jordan first.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Sad thing is, Echemandu will probably be released before Jordan, too.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Yeah, Rhodes performed well in those last 2 games and ran really hard. Regarding Jordan, if I were another team, I wouldnt give up an autographed jersey for him. I would be very surprised if he had any trade value.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Does anyone have any information on what undrafted players the Raiders have signed?
April 28th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I think the Bears will sign Rhodes.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
http://potencial.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/udfa-tracker/
here is the undrafted players list
April 28th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Dom did run pretty good the last 2 games - I bet he agreed in reducing his salary so he would get traded sometime in the draft - Teams figured we would end up cutting him with all the depth @ RB so no reason to give up a pick - At least we tried
April 28th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
No surprise. Behind McFadden and Fargas, we already have Bush and Echmandu, plus a useful UFA in Louis Rankin.
Jordan will follow Rhodes out the door. Probably on 1st June.
Other expensive luxuries include Stuart Schweigert ($2.3m cap), Fred Wakefield ($1.1m) and Robert Thomas ($2.0m). Plus two starters with value questions: Ronald Curry ($1.6m cap) and Seb Janikowski ($1.9m).
Good financial housekeeping demands that more big names will be heading out the door before too long.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Echemandu might be low enough salary that they’ll keep him through camp.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
looks like Adarius Bowman has been picked up by the Eagles. He was a fan favorite around here last night.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
He really did himself in last year with the substance policy infraction. he did good in our system when he got a chance.
Hope he lands on a team that can use him.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
wow … I figured Jordan would go first … keep Rhodes for insurance he was cheap and played good when given the chance in his last 2 games. I bet he signs with the Colts especially after KK incident.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
check that, hope he winds up on an NFC team that we dont face can use him.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
sorry Repost…
I have a feeling Rhodes might have another suspension pending that hasn’t been announced yet and I think the team is trying to get “character” guys in. We’ll have wait and see.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Fil: What kind of numebrs do you see Mcfadden have in Oakland
Jeremy Green: I think he is going to rush for 1,300 yards and catch the ball well. A lot of it will be determined on the outcome of the games. If they continue to get blown out it will hurt his production. But he is a great asset for Russell. He can be relied on by Russell to make a play when he needs to.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
McFadden: 2008 1100 yrds 10 TD 400 Receiving yrds 2009 1450 yrds 13 TD 700 Receiving 2010 2200 yrds 24 TDs 900 Receiving
April 28th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
post 22. that would explain a lot. otherwise releasing someone that took very little punishment & performed well at end of year & is fairly cheap over somebody (jordan) that is basically an overpriced injury pkg makes little sense.
i know that jordan will be a financial hit but he has to go sometime before reg season starts. & unlees there is some baggage attached to rhodes he should have some trade value between now & end of free agency later this year.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Jeremy Green did not watch many games. we were blown out what 3 times last year if that. GB, DET, SD.
even with zero offensive production we were in most games. what is he talking?
April 28th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
the media is really starting to become an annoyance.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Al Davis seems to be bending, admitting, whatup?
April 28th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Some guy on Yahoo gave the Raiders an A grade.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Reverend Wright needs to shut the hell up.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Does this mean that with the WRs we picked up no more ocho-cinco trade talk?
DAMMIT!!!
April 28th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
We can’t afford Ocho Cino.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
BSPN about to talk bad about JaMarcus
April 28th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Rob Ryan will combine the 2 WRs drafted in one uniform for a DT that weighs 410 lbs and runs a 40 in 4.41
April 28th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
The salary cap was behind Rhodes’ release. When the Raiders traded cornerback Fabian Washington to Baltimore Sunday, they took a $1.093,750 cap hit, putting them over the salary cap.
Rhodes had a $1.75 million salary, enough to put the Raiders back under the cap once he was released.
April 28th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Cole,
IF we dump Jordan we can…they are both due to make about the same in what accounts for cap purposes.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Jordan will be cut, guaranteed.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Rhodes was cool, but by no means is his departure anything to lose sleep over. We are about to unleash the best RB in McFadden despite what the naysayers has to say about our line. Our line is better than what they’ve been given credit for. I also believe all of the recievers we drafted will be better than former almost starter Doug Gabriel. Thought I’d throw that out there. Prediction tiiime!! McFadden jersey # 20
April 28th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
If Fargas can run for over 1,000 yards behind that line, think of what DMAC will do!
April 28th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
“we were blown out what 3 times last year if that. GB, DET, SD.”
Yo Thec,
FYI, the Detroit game was NOT a blow out, despite the final score.. We had a 21-20 lead in the 4th before McClown threw a pick and fumbled on back to back plays to blow the game, then the Lions tacked on a meaningless TD at the end to make the 36-21 final…
Jacksonville was a blowout of epic proportions, so there’s the three.. And even the SD game we were still in in the 4th…
Whatever, onto 2008.. Sorry to see Rhodes go, but gotta make room for the new guy… And Cartman, er, Jordan will be a June 1st cut anyway, so no worries there..
April 28th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
666, agreed forgot the JAX game.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
why is my comment awaiting moderation
April 28th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
cole, #24, your 2010 projection would shatter the all-purpose record, I won’t project quite those #s but I believe mcfadden is capable of a Dickerson/OJ/TD(2,000+yds) and/or a Faulk(1,000+yds rushing & 1,000+yds recieving) type season at some point in his career, I won’t guarrantee either but it is very likely. The ither projections seem abou right. If he stays healthy, and considering he has decent options spelling him, a good OL, and no significant injury history, I don’t see why he won’t be able to, then he’s a near lock for the ROY Award.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Has anyone here read that a drunken Rhodes pissed himself in the backseat of the cop car when he got busted? I never saw this reported before today, but it’s pretty damn funny!
April 28th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
I’m not a salary cap guy, but can’t we at least get a 5th or 6th round pick for either Jordan or Rhodes? Shouldn’t we at least try? Plenty of teams need help. Bears and Saints to name two teams.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Howie Long telling D-Mac you look good in that Rayda Hat!

It’s official Rhodes is gone , it’s on the transaction wire:

April 28th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I think I just got my voice back and got over my hangover from the 2008 NFL DRAFT
Observations,
The Jet fans were livid when we got D-MAC
The NFL fans as a whole really hate the Patriots
Goodell is a stand up guy He took the time to answer many fans questions.
The Chief fans know their team sucks
If anyone of you get the chance to go to the Draft DO IT. It gets boring at times but it moves along quite well.I liked the fact they cut down on the times between picks
I cant wait for next years Draft. I just hope we pick 32ndby the way tickets are free I dont know why my post was not allowed this is it Once upon a time in the west.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Joe Aska…
Yeah, I remember reading about that back when he got busted (before he even signed with us), but forgot about it till they mentioned it again today.. Pretty damn funny, and yet retarded at the same time..
April 28th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Raider666
McCown led us to that 21-20 lead in the 4th and our same sorry D gave up a TD on the next drive. JM then turned the ball over playing from behind.
McCown in 07 - ZERO INT’s when Oakland led.
Det was not a blow out. Jeremy is a doofus.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Hope he doesn’t land anywhere in our division, he’s still a hell of a player just didn’t get a decent shot with Kiffin.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
cg4549…
No ones gonna waste a draft pick when they KNOW you’re gonna release the guy anyway… Same thing with Jordan- dude’s making too much jack and teams will just wait till he’s released outright.. Too bad, but that’s the way it is in today’s NFL..
April 28th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
666,
i was trying to make a point Jermy green had said DMAC would do well provided that we dont keep getting blown out. I thought we were in most games last year so was trying to rebut what he was saying. I tohught we played better last year and will be better thisyear, Continuity is a good thing.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Nobody will trade for a RB they know will be released. Oh by the way. A team that has stank for 5 years isn’t going to get a lot of trade interest for its castoffs.
“Shoot, if he can’t make the Raiders why would we want him?” - Other teams.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
“McCown in 07 - ZERO INT’s when Oakland led.”
You are correct.. The D gave up the lead for good at 26-21, then McClown threw the duck that got picked by Detroit, our D held ‘em to three, THEN the first play after we got it back he fumbled and that was ballgame..
One of the three games I flew out of Seattle for last year and all that crap happened right in front of our section (209 I believe).. Complete clusterf*ck way to start the season..
April 28th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
I’m sorry but from day one LAmont Jordan has been a bust and he needed to be the first to go from our overloaded backfield. If he was not hurt he was running timid. He has been a bust and as I always have said ,”If you are a career backup don’t pay them starter money!”
April 28th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Well, the Titans picked up Mike Williams but then again Fisher is a USC grad.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
They had to cut Rhodes today. They took a 1.1mil salary cap hit when they traded washington, which put them over the salary cap. Cutting Rhodes put them 600k back under the cap.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Then somebody made a big mistake paying Fargas all that loot.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Thec…
Yeah, I know.. I wasn’t trying to be a dick, just making a correction since I spent a grip o’ dough to fly down for the opener and had to witness that pathetic finish in person, after we’d come back from 17-0 down…
Anyway, yeah I doubt Jeremy Green watched ANY Raider games last year… “Keep getting blown out”.. Yeah right, the only two TRUE blowouts were GB and Jax… SD was there for the taking twice and we let it slip away each time.. And they were the better team anyway, but still, we had our chances..
April 28th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Who’s next? Since we did offense D should be up next.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
No Reverend Wright doesn’t need to shut up… you’re too STUPID to understand what he’s saying
April 28th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
post 56 so why we paying fargas so much, cuz u know he ain’t a starter out of oakland.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Carr, Sims, Brayton, Clemons; just a few of last year’s “castoffs” that had no trouble finding work, we have alot of talent, more than many teams in the NFL, but that talent for the most part has been underutilized or has had trouble staying healthy, and the talent that is producing and contributing, and playing at a Pro Bowl level does not get recognized because of the losing and because the media chooses to focus more on the front office disfunction and underproduction on the field than the players themselves. With a drastically improved team this year and our best players from last year healthy and ready go, along with a seemingly weak schedule we have a very good chance to win some games. We are all but a lock to tally eight wins this season and ten wins would not be a stretch. We have talent, it’s time for the rest of the league to learn that.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
we should pick up ted washington for a cheap contract- throw him in there to teach Terdell how to really stop the run
April 28th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Schweigert should be axed soon , even the draft commentators, Mayock etc…, stated how he wasn’t getting it done.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Youre to stupid to understand what Bush was saying…
April 28th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Yeah, i hope school will be in session the first 4 games. I know Kiffin is going to make a statement on O, hopefully rr can do the same with the D.
I really want us to beat sd in our house. I hate them i hate them i hate them…….sorry guys for the child like outburst but sd, rivers, and lt are public enemy number one.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
rivers needs to go down, and go down HARD!!!
April 28th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
My question: if we had to cut Rhodes now, because if his cap number, what happens when we finally ink Nnamdi?
April 28th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
#62,If he wants Obama to be president, then yes, he needs to shut up.
April 28th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Duck.. I’m thinking many others will have to be restructured to get Nnamdi under the cap
April 28th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Even the Raiders’ un-drafted free agents come from small schools, Southern Utah, South Dakota State, and Western Washington. They have been doing some scouting.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
I guarantee Rhodes will be a Chicago Bear within a week.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
nnamdi’s long term deal will save us money on this year’s cap
April 28th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I hope so Cole. As long as he doesn’t sign with an AFC West team.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
I think he Rhodes still has some left. He was just the odd man out here.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
This move says to me, that they must have some confidence in Michael Bush’s leg. I hope that Lamont Jordan hasnt become Al’s scholarship player.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
The amazing thing is I talk to San Diego & Bronco fans and they all admit the Raiders have had a ridiculous offseason. They seem more impressed with our offseason than most Raider fans I talk to.
Although the offseason has been incredible, I think the only fumble was letting Clemons walk. I would feel a lot better about the defense if they were able to obtain him.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Rhodes problem with us… is he came in and on too late… became expendable… I think it’s a thumbs up for Bush, letting him go…
April 28th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Yeah, of course the suspension didn’t help. What are you doing tonight Cole?
April 28th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Probably watching some basketball.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
dominic was our best all around HB can’t wait for someone to argue this one
April 28th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Oakland Raiders - C Adam Spieker, FB Matt Hahn, LB Shane Simmons, TE Chris Wagner, RB Louis Rankin, OL Brandon Rodd, CB Derrick Brown, LB Malik Jackson
April 28th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Tay, hopefully the new DE UDFA we picked up, can pick up some of Clemons slack…
April 28th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
You think the Hawks can win again?
April 28th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Ah, hell no!
April 28th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Rhodes will not be unemployed long. He is a descent back. I like Rhodes, although I thought he did some little pouting when he wasnt getting playing time last year.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Personally, I knew Rhodes was a waist of money from the beginning. Rhodes=Larry Brown
April 28th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
That’s right Tay, he won’t be unemployed. I tell ya he will be a Bear.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Tonio, Scott is a bigger, faster, stronger clemons, he and edwards will take over clemons role as situational pass rushers
April 28th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
What’s up Tommy? Dig the draft?
April 28th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Rhodes was a beast against SD and Del Rio a friggen monster
April 28th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
He had nice games I wouldn’t say he was a beast..
How many TD’s ?
April 28th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
of course paine
April 28th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
TT - Any good SLB/MLB prospects left out there, or are we going to have to wait until June 1st?
April 28th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Of course Jim Rome was ripping on the Raiders again today. The guy is an a**hole.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Cole - Call Jim Everett and send him down to the studio. He’ll straighten Rome up.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Takeo Spikes
April 28th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Jim Everett, that’s a name I had forgotten about.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
I don’t mind Takeo but I’d like to find someone younger and cheaper. Not because I’m cheap, but because we can get good production out of a younger guy that has a chance to grow with KM and TH that won’t cost us a bunch of money and be another injury risk.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Jim Rome….LOL
What a punk. What does he really know?
Not a whole lot.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
I can’t understand a thing these gomers are saying on NFL Live with 4-5 guys talking at the same time. What a joke! lol
April 28th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Darren McFadden’s agent said he has never had a player hold out of training camp because he couldnt get a contract done - Lets hope D-Mac isn’t his first
http://youtube.com/watch?v=i2gkBvg4zpk
April 28th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
What did Rome say?
April 28th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Post 103, ROFL
April 28th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Rome pretty much criticized Davis for taking the exciting athlete player when they didn’t need a running back. Him and his sycophant analysts all said the Raiders were the losers of the draft.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
F rome mini bitc#
April 28th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
thats why rome got checked on TV by jim everett
April 28th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
What did Rome say? Didn’t see the show (ESPN has it kinda buried on the schedule), but it was probably something like “Mad props to the Fins for having the dap to lay the jack on my man Jake-dog,” or some other “hip-speak” that would sound ridiculous coming from a guy half his age. Too bad Jim Everett didn’t manage to knock some sense into him.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
once we make our run rome will be the first one on the NATIONS D!@K. screw you rome you miniture B!T@#
April 28th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
rome is a wanna be he wants to be cool, some guys buy his act but F him and all the other mediots.
Mike Smith, and Chriss Mortensen get it.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
This was just a mercy killing.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Indeed, McFadden is the only player in this draft who might sell more tickets at McAfee Coliseum than a promotion for free hot dogs.
That said, he comes with risks that would seem to outweigh any that might be attached to Dorsey.
For one, McFadden is a skinny-legged runner who rarely broke tackles in college, suggesting he won’t in the NFL.
For two, he is considered a straight-ahead slasher who hits the hole hard but is not especially shifty.
For three, he has a history of fumbling.
For four, he is joining the team that, even without him, finished sixth in the league in rushing last season.
For five, McFadden can’t take the field for an Oakland defense that finished 31st in the league against the rush, allowing 100 yards to 10 different runners.
For six, that defense was worse against the run with Kelly in the lineup than it was after an Oct. 28 knee injury ended his season.
April 28th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
LOL, Mel Kiper said Keven Smith will be the ROY! McShay picked McFadden.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
What the “experts” dont realize is that an explosive offense will help a ton for run defense. The number of 3 and outs kill your RUN defense. JRuss and DMC will turn those 3rd and short into 1st. I cant wait to see Dmac and Fargas will wear them down and Bush will run them over!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
D. Rhodes is garbage and a waist of money? What a joke!! D. Rhodes was and still is a solid, proven, veteran back that Kiffin wanted gone because of argument. Now as soon as he can Kiffin releases Rhodes. Rhodes is making less money and would have attracted more teams than L. Jordan in a trade. This is personal and this is Kiffin.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Waddle is a real piece of work..
He said the only team that got a pro bowl player in the draft was Minn getting Jared Allen….Helloooooo D Hall ???
Then he said DMAC will see 8 man fronts behind a bad O-line. We were 8th in rushing last year, something like that ?
WADDLE IS A JACKA$$, youd thunk he was an ex Bronco or Chief!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
assassin, we got two good ones with Shane Simmons and Malik Jackson, but some good ones who are still left are Chris Graham(Michigan), Stevie Ray Lloyd(Liberty), Jonna Lee(Charleston Southern), Joe Jiannoni(Utah), Rober Killebrew(Texas), Brandon Ogletree(Idaho), Marcus Buggs(Vanderbilt), Brandon Renkart(Rutgers), and Anthony Hoke(Cincinnati)
April 28th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Waddle sucks too much glass pipe stupid B!T@#.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Regarding DMAC fumbling issues.
I cant think of one player that had fumble probs that didnt get corrected. IE fargas, barber.
Can anybody think of a RB that had fumble issues that couldnt get corrected in the NFL ?
April 28th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Tyrone Wheatly
April 28th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Nearly all of McFadden’s fumbles came on KRs and when he lined up at QB, he won’t be doing either in the NFL, at least not often, so that’s the last thing you should be worrying about.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Waddles “theroy” of stacking the box only works if you dont have other weapons IMHO. Waddle is an idiot, that has not done any research into what we are doing.
Mistabrown you are right he is a jackA$$.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

This highlight has a few power runs and a few shifty runs that might make some think twice about those preconcieved misconceptions.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Thanks Tommy. I haven’t had a chance to look over Malik Jackson’s resume. You don’t have it near by do you?
April 28th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Tommy Trojan = Amy Trask
April 28th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Yea, stack the box and we will split McFadden out wide.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
To stop a great RB, stack the box.
To stop a great QB, empty the box.
To stop both, pray.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I’ve posted it before but here it is again:
Malik Jackson, OLB, Louisville
Name: Malik Jackson
College: Louisville Number: 11
Height: 6-2 Weight: 225

That screen pass at the 1:00 mark he just blows by the entire and I mean ENTIRE defense!
WOW
April 28th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
whats the rukas about …. ?
raiders had a solid draft period !
the de shows promise
the db shows promise
the wr from sd state definitely shows promise
and we ook the best player in the draft ! (dmac)
POW !
April 28th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Actually Mistabrown there are lots of them. Some guy’s it’s physical and some it’s mental, the player has to run better behind his pads and handle the ball with concentration. after some time it will become natural. DMC problems are really bad mechanics, which he can correct but he will have focus on it at first like Kaufman did and Fargas as well. Then he should OK
April 28th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Someone tell Waddle we were a pretty good running team last year thats only going to be better second year with Knapp alone…add DMAC and BUSH & holy cow!!!
The best thing they could have done for JR was get DMAC!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
With DMACS passing he could damn near play QB.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Coming into the season Jackson was a potential Top 15 pick, Lousville struggled, they no longer played with a lead, and he was thus less productive as a pass rusher and gap shooting OLB, he’s incredibly fast and explosive but needs to bulk up, he has a lot of potential. So far the theme of this weekend has been athleticism and potential, or UDFAs are an extension of that.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
DMac will see eight-man fronts? No problem! JRuss audibles and throws a fifteen-yard out to Javon. First down.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Isn’t DMC only 20 years old?
April 28th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
I keep hearing these “expert” analysts say that we have a bad offensive line. From reading Knapp’s interview we are going to run the ball a lot more than we pass. I think someone said yesterday 65 percent to 35 percent? Anyway, our lineman are good run blockers but maybe just a bit less than stellar in pass blocking. But our rushing attack will take pressure off of JR and with our vertical threats should keep defenses honest. We are gonna put points on the board thats for sure
April 28th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
he’ll be 21 when the season starts, but yeah, he’s only 20
April 28th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
by the way i did wish they addressed the o-line
that may come back to haunt us
i still say we finish 2nd place in the AFC west .
i also think we can challenge san diego.
we will get a wild card berth .
i saw chaz schillens catch a 2 yard pass and take to the house for 98yds. the man got wheels.
and as the defender tried to persue chaz just kept flying beat him by at least 7or 8 yds. ….. dang!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
The reason I knew all along there was no doubt we’d pick McFadden is actions speak louder than words.
Go back to training camp. Did Kiffin name Fargas his starting running back? Fargas wasn’t really even a factor, just an fragile, unsuccessful backup that had hung around for several years (people here called him a scholarship player and called for his release). Kiffin didn’t think highly of this guy (many thought Eche would beat him out). L.Jordan was the guy.
As for Rhodes, again look at the actions. Suspended four games. Had a bye week, came back and didn’t play week 6. Had 9 runs for 21 yards (2.3 avg) in week 7. In the next seven games, had a total of 3 carries for 3 yards. Had two nice games (in blowout losses) the last two weeks when Fargas was injured (as usual). Nevermind the two nice games, look at Kiffin’s actions and it’s clear he never liked Rhodes.
LaMont Jordan. Seemed that maybe Kiffin liked this guy. He started the first 4 games and was 3nd in the league in rushing (426 yds IIRC). Really ran him into the ground. But after game 4, he had 3 games with 10 or more carries and averaged 2.3 ypc. No carries the next two games, 4 carries for 7 yards the next tow games, 11 carries for 21 yards (1.9 ypc) in the next, then stood on the sideline in sweats for the final two.
So to sum up, Kiffin thought L.Jordan was the best he had, but lost all confidence in him after game 4. Kiffin never cared for Fargas at first, but Fargas opened his eyes. Kiffin never liked Rhodes and let him play only when nobody else could. Bush, I don’t know. Kiffin says we don’t know enough about him yet.
Just looking at how the RBs were used, it’s painfully obvious that Fargas has a role for 2008, but Rhodes and Jordan did not. The restructured Rhodes in case they couldn’t get McFadden, but knew he was gone if they did.
I said it all along, that McFadden was a Kiffin pick, not just and Al pick.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
all dmac saw for two years was 8 man fronts….hmmm
BHP sound like your beind dmac after all ?
April 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Now let Jordan go and get some positive attitudes out on the field.
I went to see The Chicago game last season;
Hes wearing black pants over his uniform.
Just because he lost his starting position. Bad attitude. Relieve us of that CANCER!!!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
they say branch like to splatter people
’specially running backs….. hmmm
April 28th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
jordan aka thr e tin-man had a heart condition
now he’s gonna go to OZ
April 28th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
I just had a long conversation with a dischargers fan. He was clueless to the fact that we have 2 grade a backs. They are allready scared of DMAC, but get a hold of the concept of DMAC/BUSH. I also had to thow out their that we had the best backfields in the NFL he really didnt have much to say but point at norv as to why he thinks they wont win it all. I know they wont win it all its the team DNA they dont have it and never will.
the real fans of SD that have a grip know their days are numbered.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Thanks TT! I gotta admit it,if Cable can out together half decent blocking this guy will run past EVERYBODY!!
April 28th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
if rhodes or even jordan after he gets cut are picked up by another team do we then get some sort of compansary pick next year? if so it would be like tradeing them for a low round pick
April 28th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
F@#$% the chargers
F%#$ the chiefs
F$%@ the broncos
‘Da greatness of da raidahs is in it’s fucha…..
April 28th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
TT…Thanks for the utube post of DMAC…awesome!
This Guy is going to KILL defenses.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I wouldn’t be surprised for McFadden to go well over 1000 yards, but I don’t expect really ridiculous numbers because I expect Bush to be getting a lot of carries too kinda like R Bush and White at USC.
April 28th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
to follow up on my long winded post 142, some more Kiffin/McFadden thoughts.
First, an obvious point. Everybody knows Kiffin’s job is on the line. He’s a young guy and has his future career to think about. He doesn’t want to be forever mentioned as Lane Kiffin, who was fired by the Raiders after going 6-26 over two years. That’s not the resume that puts you on the path to heading a major collage program or an head coaching an NFL team. That puts him in offensive coordinator limbo until he starts growing some gray hairs, if he makes it that long.
Second, everybody knows that Kiffin didn’t want Ryan to continue as DC. So Kiffin was not of the mind to say, boy, I really want to help make R.Ryan a great success this year, forget about the offense).
third, most of the big offseason moves have been on defense (D.Hall, T.Kelly, G.Wilson, K.Edwards)
Now, Kiffin was brought in to fix the Raiders’ offensive problems. The last thing he was going to do was use the #4 pick on yet another defensive star while the offense starves. There’s self interest involved here, and Kiffin’s not going to want to use all the resources to benefit R.Ryan’s at Kiffin’s detriment.
I know Kiffin is head coach and responsible for the whole team, but in reality he was brought in to fix the offense. He was allowed to clean house an hire his offensive coaches, but he couldn’t touch the defense. Kiffin’s career rises or falls with how well the Raiders’ offense performs this year.
Since he’s going into the season with a rookie QB and a batch of RBs he doesn’t really like, it obvious that he’s going to press for an offensive weapon, particularly a Reggie Bush-type playmaker.
I used to think there was a decent chance that we’d pick C.Long or Gholston, but as we signed Kalimba Edwards, it was clear as day that McFadden was the guy (and I said exactly this in the comments of the blog post reporting the K.Edwards signing).
Thanks for reading. I’ll be here all week. You can leave your tips on the tables.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Can’t disagree with your logic Pirate… I still wonder though … if some how C. Long were there… what we would have done… I guess it still would have been MCfad… well… know it would from what Kiff said… and well… I glad we (fans) didn’t have to see that happen…
April 28th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I said bach when we lost the coin toss to Atlanta that it was possible that it could turn out to be to our benifit, especially if Atlanta were to target a different player than us. That turned out to be the case. We still got the same player we would have at three, but at one slot lower on the salerie scale.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Linds, I’m trying to be a trooper but don’t get me started, I’ve always liked the kid but I still feel we passed on some excellent talent. KC had the draft that I wanted us to have. I still want C Long and C Johnson and would trade our draft in two seconds to get them.
I already did my bitchin’ a plenty so I’m just coolin’ it.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
well, tommy blake had a tryout with the bucs and is likely to sign with them, that’s the last of the elite UDFAs, i know “elite UDFAs” sounds oximoronic, but there are talented rookies available in FA, but the top tier guys are now gone………
April 28th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
I agree, Tonio. If C.Long and D.McFadden were both on the board, it would have been a tough choice. I have to think they were 1-2 on the Raiders’ draft board.
And I feel the same way that we didn’t have to make the choice. It didn’t bother me at all to pass on G.Dorsey (T.Kelly plays Dorsey’s position, injury issues), but it would have been difficult, sickening really, to have passed on C.Long and see him go to the Chiefs.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Pirate if Kiffin has 2 cents or sense he wuld want Ryan to be as succesful as any DC in the league because that’s how you win, and we spent heavily on D in FA so that does make sense. He sees DMC as a bigger Bush and has MB here to keep him healthy.
Ryans defense is set in all parties minds that’s why DMC is here.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
Heavily on D so that DOESN”T make sense.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
It is curious that the Raiders cut Rhodes before Jordan. I’m guessing either Jordan has agreed in principle to restructure his contract down to the minimums or there’s some possibility of trading him (hard to believe).
Any ideas? Why cut Rhodes first?
April 28th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
TT - Bummer. I posted that earlier, knowing you were a fan of his. Oh well, at least we got Derrick Brown.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
I don’t know, BHP, I think the offense is in MUCH worse shape than the defense. It always baffles me why people are so intent on continuing to spend resources on defensive players.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Maybe Al Davis is worried Jordan could be to big a help for a division rival. If he could manage to keep him and stay under the salerie cap until the final cut Jordan wouldn’t have the preperation time through the offseason and camp with one of those team. Just speculation.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Pirate aaaarrrgggghhhhhhhhh…post 153.
I definitely agree with what a lot of what you´re saying, I talked about it a few days back…but got no feedback, I´m glad you feel the same way and I think we hace the right idea.
Bob Marley Says:
April 16th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Kiffin´s job next year is to get the offense going, that´s why Davis wanted a play-caller as Coach, it´s evident that Kiffin is not yet responsible for what goes on with the Defense and his job won´t hinge on their performance.
Kiffin´s best shot to secure his job and obtain more power is to develop a consistent offense that puts the team in position to win games, if the defense doesn´t measure up to the Offense and ends up costing us several games, then Kiffin proves he´s on the right path and he´ll have a lot more input in who we hire as DC after next season when Ryan´s contract is over.
A guy like McFadden will do a lot more for Kiffin´s future than Ellis or Dorsey.
I´m aware that in the end, it comes down to wins and losses and a good defense will obviously be a major factor in how many W´s we end up with.
But ultimately, I believe that it will come down to how Kiffin´s side of the ball performs and that´s how Kiffin will be evaluated when the season ends, I do not think Davis will fire him if the defense does not perform up to expectations while the offense shows marked improvement.
I´m not saying McFadden is the pick, I´m saying that if it is, Kiffin would welcome the help with open arms because he will be directly involved in how our 1st pick contributes, it´s another weapon for him to mold.
And if McFadden is not the pick, my point remains the same, Kiffin will be evaluated on how the offense does because Davis decided he´s not yet in a position to influence the Defense.
If his offense performs, next year he´ll have a say and Raheem Morris or somebody else who Kiffin endoreses will be the DC.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
No ideas. None. It’s nonsense to cut Rhodes before Jordan…for a ton of reasons. But just from the talent standpoint alone, why cut him before Jordan? Rhodes was great (cheap) insurance.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
And I don’t agree that defense is how you win. That’s part of it, obviously, but the Pats weren’t on the brink if 19-0 because of defense, Indy didn’t win the superbowl because of defense. Lots of teams with great defenses are losers.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
One potential reason could be that the Raiders felt it was best to give him time to sign with somebody right away since he already reduced his salary to stay with the team. The problem with this theory is that Al is ice cold and wouldn’t do such a thing.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
DMAC was the pick because he was the best player in the draft, and also because Kiffin didn’t want to let the Arkansas rumors die. He figured if he couldn’t get the job then he would settle for their best player.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Couple of items strait off the island for me to share here with all my buddies,…first of all if I was a little hostile yesterday, well truth be told, I tried to go a day without Norcos and wine,..didnt go over well,..so today Im feeling great on 2 pretty little yellows and a couple glasses of Meridian…anyway,..from the island,…my source tells me he/she will not confirm that DMAC will wear the nimber 20,..but I believe it will end up being number 28,…as far as Rhodes goes,…and Jordan,…well they are both gone, of course,…Jordon cleared out his stuff the day after the Charger game,…not been at HQ since…well Im off to pour another glass….Raidernation.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
thoughts on Trevor Scott:
should replace Isiah Ekejiuba as the team wedge-buster
Buffalo actually played some tough competition the last 2 years, including Wisconsin, Rutgers, and Penn State
had two sacks against Wisconsin in 2006, when Joe Thomas was on the team
April 28th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Bob Marley, wow, hadn’t read your April 16 post before, but it’s right on the money, agree 100%
April 28th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
AL’s not afraid that Rhodes will be picked up by denver or kc?
April 28th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
also had a great game against central michigan in 2006, when Joe Staley was there
April 28th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Because that’s how you win. And they want to win it’s very simple. JaMarcus Russell alne improves our offense exponentially we didn’t NEED DMC but the coach wanted him and got his way, NOW HE better win.
We did IMO go after C Long unsuccessfully so DMC IS a great consolation prise. I do however think he brings us some excellent scoring punch.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
wouldn’t be surprised to see Trevor Scott (eventually) line up at TE in some goal line situations (Vrabel-like).
April 28th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
You guy’s are assuming that dosn’t have to win your making a mistake. Ryan will simply leave Kiffin will be fired, mark my words. If they don’t win.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Maybe, but they had to make a move because they were over the salerie cap.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Along the line of thinking on posts 153 and 163…..
I´m willing to roll the dice next year with what we have on D in order to provide Russell with a versatile weapon to help get our offense going.
We´ll reap the benefits in the 2009 season, with an explosive offense in place and the full-effort of the Draft and FA Period directed toward finding players who will strengthen DL and the run defense…..and a new DC likely to be in place.
Davis and Kiffin already thought about it:
“(on the Ryan situation)…Al thought about that for a while and we talked about a number of different things, a number of different scenarios that could come up and then Al decided to stay with Rob.” Said Kiffin.
It´s on record that the possibility of letting Ryan go WAS discussed, Kiffin stated that they looked at several situations and in the end AD decided to let Ryan work the last year of his deal.
After this season, those different scenarios that AD and Kiffin talked about will be revisited and they will come up with a new guy.
Unless results dictate otherwise.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
BHP, I agree, like we talked about yesterday, sometimes, you are NOT gonna trade. I think we did inquire about Chris Long but the Lambs were having none of it.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Pirate you might not agree but desn’t mean you’re right. Giants SB win last year was defense driven and you may not agree with that but it’s true, their offense was average at best.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Pirate - Rhodes was cut for salary cap
reasonshttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3372456
April 28th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Of course he has to win, but Kiffin was brought in specifically to fix the offense and, therefore, has a paramount interest in fixing the offense. That much seems obvious.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Priest -
agree with Russell improving the offense…the only thing wrong with the offense last season was the QB’s…
April 28th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Bob, I don’t think results will dictate anything differently. As I’ve said a billion times here, Ryan is out of contract at the end of the year. If the D sucks, he’s gone. If the D is the most amazing shut down D of all time, Ryan would be a super hot commodity and Davis isn’t going to pay him and Kiff would want his own guy anyway. In other words Ryan would be gone. So, I think RR will be gone once his contract expires regardless of results. I’d be very surprised otherwise.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
LosT, cutting Jordan would have the same effect, so the question is why cut Rhodes before Jordan.
April 28th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Defense is the key to winning…Its like pitching in baseball…The offense has an advantage because they know the plays…The defense has to read and react…therefore is you have a dominant defense, you can hold the other team in check. Baltimore won, Tampa won, Pittsburgh won because of their defense…
April 28th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
OG
along those lines, that is why they didn’t pick up any defensive players in this draft. Branch and Scott will primarily be ST’s initially
April 28th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Pirate -
if we cut Jordan before June 1st, his salary goes against the cap this year…he will be cut on June 1st…
April 28th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
CLEARLY, the defense was the heart of the Giants Super Bowl win and don’t forget in the run Indianapolis had, their defense played lights out at the end and in the first two playoff games. I think Indy held KC to NO FIRST DOWNS for the first three quarters of that playoff game. That was insane. Don’t you get one first down just for showing up??
April 28th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
BBB, you are exactly right.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
This is friggin amazing!!!!!!
“was that a punt by Shane Lechler or a pass by Jamarcus Russell”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saLKcfFiCJ0&feature=related
April 28th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
189. Thanks, LosT, that’s probably the answer. There’s a new rule that allows teams to cut two players and split the signing bonus (i.e., cut pre-June 1 but have the same effect ast post-June 1), but for whatever reason it must have made more sense to release Rhodes first. In any event, bye bye to both, hello McFadden and Bush.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
The kid has sick skills and anyone that can go get that pass I hope we signed him.
Russell will stretch the hell out of defenses rushing lanes will be like the freakin’ freeway.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
At 4:00 in the morning
April 28th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Oakglenn…185
Yeah, I do agree it´s hard to imagine a scenario where Ryan comes back, but my point was that Kiffin won´t be canned if the offense develops and the defense continues to fail.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Pirate-
I can’t wait to June 1st!!!
April 28th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
lol
April 28th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Rhodes was not released now because of the salary cap. Even if we were over the cap now we don’t have to be under the cap till approximately when the season starts (or at least several months from now). It is unclear to me why we would release him now, instead of Jordon, because both could have been released much later. The salary cap now doesn’t matter, therefore there must be another reason why he was released now. Maybe somone on this blog had it right earlier. Because he restructured his contract for the benefit of the Raiders we may have agreed with him or allowed him to leave to find another team. I don’t think this is Al Davis’s way normally but it is possible and it may have even been by agreement when he restructured in case we did draft McFadden.
BlackholePriest/Tommy Trojan- what do you think?
April 28th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Just 361 days, 18 hours, and 32 minutes until the 2009 NFL draft……….I can’t wait……………
April 28th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
BOB that kid has to win I’m telling ya’ Big Al wont care if we end up 5 & 11, even if we average 25 points a game. On the other hand if we’re losing games 35 to 38 yeah you make a point but he has to win. You should know that.
I know you guy’s blame everything on Ryan and what’s more you want him gone but you gotta understand at this point Ryan has much more chance o remaining in this league than Kiffin I love the kid and want him to stay but I know Big Al. and he will fire this kid if they don’t win.
It would have to be very one sided and you’re crazy if you think this defense is going to be bad enough to warrant that.

They probably released Dom for cap space to sign our draftees. They probably are going to keep LaMont Jordan for trade bait or till before training camp so teams who want him probably can’t put him in there plans yet, remember the reason why we didn’t relaese him during the season is because the chiefs and the broncos were interested in him and they might still be.

Oakglenn, you asked me about the picks yesterday but I was already gone, I noticed this morning, for what it´s worth here´s how I see it.
Keeping in mind the whole picture, we took our alloted 8 picks in the 2008 Draft and turned them into:
1st RB McFadden–It´s all been said.
2nd CB DeAngelo–24,Pro Bowler.
3rd OT Mario Henderson–Equal or better prospect than any OT left had we kept the pick, with the benefit of no longer being a rookie and having a year of Cable under his belt…but jury´s still out.
4th S/CB Tyvon Branch–According to the “experts”, a very good pick, after reading up on him can´t argue with it.
4th WR Arman Shields–Everybody would have liked Defense here, the player seems talented, but unless the kid makes the team it can´t be justified, not a good pick based on players available.
5th DT Gerard Warren—Does anyone believe we could have gotten a better DT had we kept this pick?.
6th DE Trevor Scott–At this point, the odds are stacked against any player making it, at least this guy has elite athleticism.
7th WR Chaz Schilens–See above.

daaraiders, no idea, either he did something/something happened we don’t know about, or maybe he asked to be released after we added McFadden, or he was insurance in case McFadden was gone so now he’s safe to be released……….that’s all i can think of but my best guess is he asked to be released because he knew he would be the 4th RB and would never see a carry, can’t blame him……….and it’s nothing for us to be concerned about, like i said, he was our 4th RB…………

199. teams have to be in compliance with the salary cap by March 1st.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
In other words it’s wishful thinking. Ryan is safe any way you look at it unless the defense is a total failure. If he’s not here in two years as Oak thinks it will probably be of his own choice.
Someone said earlier that Kiffin had to get DMC and they’re pretty clse to sccurate as far as I’m concerned. But it’s to save HIS skin. I think this defense will perform, why they didn’t last year is puzzling this year I can’t see us being 31st overall defensively I see mid teens or better do you think Ryan gets fired for that.

Schilens’ highlight tape is pretty damn impressive:

I know it takes more than a few big plays to make a great player, but with his size and speed he is an intriguing prospect. I hope he makes it.

I recently read a quote from a fan comparing Dorsey to Steve Emtman and saying he was a huge talent with bad legs. Pretty interesting.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
I think that (206) sums it up. I would have liked defensive line with the 4th rounder but that kid Branch is very good player so, we should be all right.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
we picked up the linebacker from my school as a UFA! we just interviewed him and ran a story about him a few days ago in our school paper. don’t know if he’ll make the squad, but it’s sweet to see simmons from WWU on the Oakland Raiders baby!

BHP
I think we all know that another 4 or 5 win season and Kiffin´s gone, that goes without saying.
Anything above that will be evaluate on both sides of the ball, if Kiffin´s offense fails to show the expected development, he´s gone……but if it´s on the right track (and that does not mean scoring 28 or 30 a game, which is not gonna happen) and the team is behind him, he´s likely staying.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
BHP, I’m probably the only person on this entire blog who hopes he stays, but I just don’t see it happening.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Great article about Arman Shields, it does talk about the Colts though.

No Oak I’m with you because I know better. That defense played hard just not effective. That wont happen this year.
April 28th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
BHP…on 209
I know you have a lot of faith in Ryan and you know from previous arguments that I don´t.
I say we wait and see what happens during the season, it´s pointless to debate Ryan at this point when we know where we stand.
And you know I´d love it if your are right, I´m rooting for him.

BHP: Can the D simply improve via attitude by knowing Russell will start every game and is working every week right now voluntarily to get everything rolling?
I believe by having continuity on both sides of the ball we’ll simply be a better team.
Attitude is going to infect the D and they will play better. If the D line can get just a little pressure, the back 7 will succeed most times with Hall, Nnamdi, Huff, & Wilson.

Draft McFadden!

I’m with Dakota!
April 28th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Dakota- It’s nice not to get harrassed by wanting DMac!!
April 28th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
DR was release now because that was part of the deal for him to rework his contract. I we got McFad we would let him go. If we didn’t get McFad he would stay at cheaper price or be tradeable with a low cap hit for another team.

Some tidbits on Rankin…
UFA Washington RB Louis Rankin, 5′11 200.
Washington’s Louis Rankin is a nephew of former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Webster Slaughter. Rankin is coming off a 1,200-yard rushing season and is an elite kick returner.
Had private workouts with the Bears, Seahawks and Raiders. The Texans flew him to Houston for an interview, and several teams, including the 49ers, Eagles and Falcons interviewed him at the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game in El Paso, Texas.
Rankin recently ran the 40 in 4.4 seconds in front of Seahawks scouts and coaches on a cold, rainy day in Seattle, and he turned in a 4.42 on March 14 at Washington’s Pro Day. The Bears sent scouts to Stockton and spent a day with Rankin, working him out at Edison.

My point exactly Russell will infuse tremendous confidence throughut this entire team you’ll see what I mean when he starts game in game out and starts to perform they’ll knw what to expect, hell Ryan can even coach differently. Qb is HUGE.

Okay, lets move on to the 2009 draft…
Draft Fili Moala!
April 28th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Plus they are much more talented now than last year, it’s not even clse. ……No Stu to gum up the works.

Dakota,
so now you want D-line huh?
April 28th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Relax buddy!!!
April 28th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
Releasing Rhodes shows a great deal of confidence in Bush. That has to help keep Bush engaged. Last year, of course, Kiffin cut players from the roster as soon as they were not in the plan. He did not keep warm bodies hanging around. That seems to fit with his approach to practice: focused, fast, high energy, high expectations, high effort. No messing around. Same thing with the draft: no trades for picks without an identified player. But we must have tried to deal Rhodes to get players now targets as UDFAs — we just could not get any takers. With Branch, Rhodes was not even a KR. He probably complained (no one blames him), and that was enough for Kiffin.

Hey, I wanted a D-line in round 4, a NT like Red Bryant, Dre Moore etc…Fili fits what we need.
After we draft Fili next year, and Sands gets cut, my nickname for Fili will be…
TURD CUTTER!

H-E-double toothpicks (225): Good point. Makes sense for both sides.

Dakota, can we replace Ryan before we start talkin 2009 draft ?
