Roster scramble begins
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, May 8th, 2008 at 1:52 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The cold reality is that of the 35 or so players who will participate in this weekend’s Raiders minicamp, two appear to be dead-solid locks to be on the 53-man roster come September.
Only running backs Darren McFadden and Michael Bush, health permitting, can be reasonably assured to have 510 area codes fourth months from now, although others will surely join them.
The rest of the smallest draft class in Raiders history _ defensive back Tyvon Branch (fourth round), wide receiver Arman Shields (fourth round), defensive end Trevor Scott (sixth round) and wide receiver Chaz Schilens (seventh round) joined McFadden _ will be represented on the final 53, but chances are someone won’t make it.
The Raiders served notice last training camp they were willing to cut a draft pick when third-round selection Quentin Moses, the No. 65 overall pick, failed to make the final cut. He was the highest drafted player who did not make a Week 1 roster.
They’ll all be trying to make a good first on-field impression, joined by a congregation of undrafted free agents hoping to become the next Barry Sims, Tommy Kelly or Chris Carr, plus a handful of players on hand for no more than a weekend tryout.
Other than McFadden, if you’re looking for major impact on the 2008 Raiders, odds are you won’t find it in Alameda this weekend unless Bush can work his way into the running back rotation or ascend on the depth chart due to injury as he joins McFadden and Justin Fargas.
Last season, Bush was off on a separate field each day with the athletic training staff. He got in some practice time during closed in-season practices last season, but was never activated.
Both running backs are scheduled to talk with the media Saturday in a structured availability schedule. Friday’s interview subjects will be Branch, Shields, Scott and Schilens.
Players will begin Friday, Saturday and Sunday with meetings and a practice walkthrough which is closed to the media. Interview sessions on Friday and Saturday are from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with practice from 1 p.m. to 2:30. Coach Lane Kiffin will be available for questions following practice sessions.
Reports will be filed following practice, with breaking news filed as soon as possible.
There is no player availability scheduled for Sunday.

Riverside Raiders Fan Says:
May 8th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
DOUBLE STANDARDS:
Former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh sent the NFL eight videotapes (if you believe they’re were only eight, get your head examined, idiot) that show New England violated league rules by recording opposing coaches’ play-calling signals. But, the video did not include the Rams’ walk-through before the 2002 Super bowl. (If you think there wasn’t a video on that, then you’re really out there in la-la-land.)
The Patriots had already admitted taping those eight games, NFL spokeman Greg Aiello said. The tapes were of regular season games against the Chargers, Bills and Browns from 2002 to 2002 (So, he turns in only eight, yet if my math is correct there were 48 league games for the years 2000, 2001 & 2002?) Also a video of the AFC title game against the Steelers.
Commissioner Roger Goodell (He must have sold out to the Patriots under the table) has said he would penalize the Patriots further if Walsh had a tape of the Rams’ walkthrough in February. The
Boston Herald reported that a Patriots employee taped that walk-through.
COME ON GUYS, you know in your hearts of hearts, if AL Davis would have done something of that magnatude, all of our draft picks would have been taken. The fines would have been doubled and any title games we won would have been reversed. Goodell may have even tried to take our franchise away.
Ya, there is a DOUBLE STANDARD in town.
Slap in the hands for some and a sledge hammer for others.
This was reported today by Quick snaps from News Services.

May 8th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Anyone know where I can find a list of everyone (including the undrafted rookies) participating in the rookie mini-camp this weekend? I hear we got a LB out of a small DII school that is supposed to be a tackling machine. I can’t confirm though.

May 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I want to take this time to make an announcement. I, Albert Bigelow Paine, will be leaving this blog tomorrow. It may be only temporary, but I am moving to France to pursue my studies of the One Hundred Years War. I will miss the enlightening discourse I have had with you fellows, as I am sure you will miss my input. Hopefully I will somehow be able to view some Raiders games while I am in France. I wish of all you well. I am sure we will talk again. Go Raiders!!!
p.s. I would appreciate it if no one uses my name to make posts while I am gone.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

It’s what being a fan is all about…excitiment over the upcoming season…hope! It’s sticking with your team no matter what…SB seasons and losing seasons. It’s getting pi$$ed off when they make bone-head trades, draft picks and ridiculous pentalty calls. It’s never wanting to hear their name again…until the next game…it’s bleeding Black and Silver, and defending them no matter what…True Raider fans drank the kool aid years or decades ago…we don’t need some limp d!@k telling us we all think AD is God…we know he is….Silver and Black forever!
May 8th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
KK, the raiders always have flashy off-seasons, i agree, and every off- season i’m always optimistic about my team, you dont have to be , but i am.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

GO RAIDERS.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Fans want to WIN, they don’t give a crap about Al Davis, George Steinbrenner, Mark Cuban.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Maybe there’s a difference between groupies and fans?
May 8th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
in the raiders i trust.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
ya, and there is a difference between real fans and wagon jumpers.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
God forbid the good people of Arizona demand better of Bill Bidwell, oh my gawd!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Hmm…I wonder where the Rams walk through practice video is? All of a sudden is disappeared??
The PATS and Goodell and his cronies in the NFL offices are hypocrites and a joke! Continuing to show favoriticism toward the cheating PATSIES. What a joke!
VOTE BARACK OBAMA 2008!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
when we’re winning they all jump on the wagon, and when we loose they get off it like there is a bomb on it.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
If you want TRUE CHANGE….
VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA….easily!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:02 pm

May 8th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Dark, the pats are a joke, and BB needs to be punished, im sure pacman would love to pay 500K instead of serving a 1 year suspension.

speed racer seems like more for the kiddies….
i’ll see narnia 2 (it looks better than the first) and can’t wait for INDY 4…and of course The Dark Knight
May 8th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
BB, needs to serve 1 year suspension.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I don’t know how any so-called real fan is going to call any other fan wagon jumpers when this team has been losing 12 games per year?
May 8th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I don’t think there’s any bandwagon jumpers here.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
and never to enter the HOF.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
loosing or winning it should not mater. a fan will always be true to his team, even if they lose 16 games.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
GOOOOO LAKERS!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Dakota,
Why aren’t more teams playing the Triangle?
May 8th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Michael Vick defaulted on a $2.4 million loan. I don’t get it. What do these guys do with their money. Why is a millionaire taking out such a huge loan anyways. I guess those dogs must be pretty expensive.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Thanx for the pre camp fix Jerry! I knew you wouldnt let us down!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Because they don’t have Tex. The triangle dies with Tex.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
They will remain true to their team, that doesn’t mean they have to be quiet like an idiot.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
I was at the UW when he coached there in the early 70’s, they didn’t win anything.

Shanahans going to Baby Bush’s wedding… doesn’t that fit ?!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Does anyone here think any of the UDFA’s, have a shot at making the final 53. I Like what little I’ve read about that DE from Western Washington. Whathizname?
dang brain cramp, shoot.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Lakers looked dominant last night….finally Kupcake made a move and got Gasol to complete the final piece of the puzzle.
Odom averaging a double double just about….the Lake Show is ready for another run at titles baby! Yeah!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Okay Raider0 we disagree, but I’m certainly hoping for the best. Peace.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Greyson 909 and I think he’s a possibility for sure
May 8th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
I think Kiffen and usc tried to recruit him from h/s
May 8th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
The Lake Show looked damn good last night…It’ll be a great series between them and the Hornets.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Hey ABP, maybe you should go to Iraq instead and study the new 100 year war.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
take care KK, we all are.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Tonio… Thanks. I’ll have to do word association with his name…. Greyson = vodka.
Anyway, he sounds like he could be a good find.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
I thought u were leaving cole????
May 8th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Greyson is somewhat of a local. Grew up in Sebastopol, CA a few miles from where I live in Sonoma County. I heard that he was a lifelong Raiders fan, but don’t they always say that?
I think he’s got potential and out of all the UDFA’s in camp, he has the best chance to stick, at least on the practice squad.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
KK -
Ran into Mosh Pit the other day. Still crazy as ever.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Starter By Begining of season Darren McFadden no doubt!2nd string Michael Bush no doubt! They Both complement each other so perfectly!Dont be surprised if thats how it is by the end of the Preaseason!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Oh yeah and i Forgot!Trevor Scott (DE) and Tyvon Branch (S) Will Make it for sure! I think Schweigert will get released or traded along with Starks,Rashad Branch,Waddell, and the rest!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
I honestly believe that most of us on here are true fans. Right now is the time for some optimism and hope. Time to talk about the new players we’ll have on the field and the fact that regardless of what happened last year we’ll start fresh at 0-0 in September. It’s the off-season. It’s the time to do this and recharge and get ready to scream and cheer and root for our team.
HOWEVER, the problem is that a few posters just can’t allow us to do that without ripping a new acquisition or attacking fellow posters for being excited. They can’t just feel a bit of hope for the new season. And feeling a bit of hope doesn’t mean we love everything 100%. It doesn’t mean that at all. It just means we don’t hate our lives so much that we want to bring everyone down with us.
I can’t imagine spending day after day posting and complaining about something you hate. What kind of life does a person lead to continually put down people? It borders on being a sociopath. It really does and the definition of a sociopath is scary when you look it up and compare to a few posters on this blog.
Revel in the misery of others if you must, but know that none of us are going away. We’ll be here ignoring most of your posts and shaking our heads at what must be a pretty pitiful existence while at the same time cheering on our time and looking forward to a fresh new season.
Go Raiders!
May 8th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Schweigert and trade do NOT belong in the same sentence….lol.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Dogg…. Always sounds good on the interview, life long fan and such.
The numbers and scouting reports that I read here (thanks to whom ever that was ) sounded pretty good.
If he busts his tail in camp and can learn Ryans “complicated” play book, then who knows, maybe he could be a gem off the manure pile find for us.
May 8th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Wolverine…. Right on, Keep the faith. Don’t let the yeahoos get you down.
JUST WIN BABY!
May 8th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Schweigert and Arena League, maybe?
May 8th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Wolverine Raider
I’m glad you made it back.
Your insights are always good.
I like you seem to just shake my head at the two posters here that continually speak of misery at every move the Raider organization completes, constantly using other people’s user names or making up knew names everyday.
Blame, and more blame is the easiest to preach.
I agree with your post # 98 and I have decided to walk away from this blog when the chaos begins.
I know why some people in our society can’t get past the gloom and doom, they will never have any optimisim, that would be to hard to have and it’s easier to complain.
May 8th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
At 19-61, 5 straight Double Digit losing seasons, Excuse me for being a little skeptical.

They’re talking about you guys right now, on that Bob Costas HBO show. About bloggers and their comments section. Quote of the day, right there. Nailed it.

MR -
We all know how you feel about AD. He is the antichrist to you. Cool. How about moving past it now? Every once in a while you can remind us of that hate, but in the meantime maybe consider injecting a bit of optimism in your overall perspective. Just a friendly suggestion…
May 8th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Chicken Choker, I’m saying nothing…yet you respond to each of my posts, like clockwork. Your math isn’t adding up.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
problem is cole ford, albert bigelow, ai, kool kell, are all you.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Raiderdogg, Al Davis is not the antichrist. He’s just a horrible GM, and an owner who’s too cagey to get any real managerial talent in the front office.
And, I am optimistic. I’m optimistic that we will win a Super Bowl within 5 years of Al Davis retiring.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
why isn’t my math adding up. I’m just multplying 0.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

Touche MR. You got me on that one. I ain’t mad at you I just wish there wasn’t always beef.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
will you honestly be happy or are you just saying that becaiuse you think that it will never happen?
May 8th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Chicken, if my input adds up to a “zero” in your mind, why are you compelled to respond to every single post of mine? You’d think that you could just ignore me, and move on. But you can’t. Guess what? That means I’m saying something.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Raiderdogg why would you think he is telling the truth. he has never told the truth. why would he start now
May 8th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Raidedogg, whatever beef there was, it was you who made it. This is just a comments section. It’s impossible for me to have beef with anyone here because nobody here has any effect on my life, whatsoever. I’m sorry if some of you can’t say the same.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
i guess you can’t tell the difference between response and ridicule. ridicule is not a response. it is ridicule
May 8th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Raiderdogg, I’m happy right now. And, like I said, I’m optimistic that this team can move mountains the minute Al Davis is out of the picture.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Still a response, Chicken. Regardless of your intentions. It means I must be saying something. I’m getting under your skin, somehow. Because with every comment of mine, one of yours follows.

Advice to the kool aid drinking homers, like Chicken:
Let go of the accusation that a commenter you disagree with “isn’t saying anything”. By default, you’re already addressing them, which means they have to have said “something” to get you rattled.
Put up a fight. Respond to their points. Guilt trip them for not having optimism (when you’re owned debating the points), like Raiderdogg is doing. But don’t say they’re “not saying anything”.
The only way to say that someone isn’t saying anything, is to not respond to them. Once you’ve responded, you’ve automatically established that they’ve said something.
I’m saying a WHOLE lot. And you know it.

KoolKell is cracking me up over here. You must be fun to live with. I’ve never seen anyone waste so much time trying to convince others on how they are wrong to hope. I’d go crazy being so negative when no one cared.
Dude, you are very annoying. Every other post of yours is full of whining. You whine so much that you sound more like a whiner’s fan.
Ok, we get it you don’t belive. you haven’t believed for the last 10 or 12 years. Who cares? why do you constantly try to convice people not to be optimistic?
You don’t like Al, or his product but you are here all day preaching his/it’s product day in day out? Get a life man. You call yourself a realist, but you don’t have a grip on real life enough to sit here and whine about a product you don’t like. Especially with so many worth while causes in the world that would greatly benifit from your excessive amounts of wasted it.
You always claim people don’t have a grip on their mind or the real world, but yet here you are in here day out wallowing in the same filth they are.
The only reason I have time to ever really post is becomes the only times I get a chance to take a break from real life (work, home, family) is on my Bart commute home.
I don’t know who I find more annoying, you or MaddenRaider.
Get a life old timer. Life it too short to whine, especially when others don’t care about your opinion.

Raidermight, why are you asking people to leave because you don’t agree with them? The author of this blog, Jerry McDonald, is a critic of Al Davis. Want him to leave, too?
May 8th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

I want to see what changes worked and which failed.

May 8th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Raidermight, I’ll save you the inevitable emotional roller coaster. We’re 4-12 again, and Kiffin will be gone before season’s end. In other words, he’s collecting, baby. Lane wins. Al shelved Kiffin, which means we won’t run the ball nearly as much as we did last year (mark that prediction, bookmark this page), and did not address our biggest need, stopping the run. Trust me, we’re going to suck.

I never come apart, Chicken.
The Raiders? They came apart on January 26th, 2003, and will not come back together until Al Davis is retired from football operations. Let me know when anything happens otherwise, on the actual field, resulting in us actually winning games.

MR, I never asked him to leave. I am just like him I posted my opinions of him. I don’t hate Jerry. I love his product. I love this site, that’s why I come here. I love reading posts from most users, including yours. but for someone that posts a lot he sure hates the Raiders product.
some hate AL, some hate Kiff, some hate some players, but most post something they like about the Raiders as a whole.
this guy doesn’t. he like something some time back, when the team was great, but not anymore.
I just don’t get why someone with so much distaste is so addicted to a team he doesn’t like.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
And, I’ve never muttered the words “Go Broncos” in my life. Only “Go Raiders”. It’s just that I’m realistic, unlike most of the homers in this comments section.

May 8th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Raidermight, I think you get too worked up by criticism. Relax. Not every fan is a kool aid drinking homer. A lot of us are dissatisfied with Davis’s poor management, and like to speak our mind about it.
Want to know why we come here?
Because the author of this blog feels the same away about Al Davis’s ability to run a team as we do. Sure, the Davis homers are trying to corner the market in here, but we can handle them.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Raidermight, were you upset about our play at all throughout the course of the last 5 years?
May 8th, 2008 at 7:51 pm

then why even bother watching the games, following the pre and post season, why even bother?
I know we have lost a lot in the recent past, but who cares?
I’m still going to go every home game and watch everygame on tv like I do.
I am very enthusiastic aabout our team, but don’t have emotional ups and downs for it. life is too short to get too hung up on this. there many other more important things to get emotional about.
I love the Raiders and always will. I just choose to continur to have hope every season. whether we lose or win.

May 8th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

May 8th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Raidermight, you’re too worked up. A lot of fans don’t follow every single detail about the team, and neither do I. You can be a fan of a team, and be critical. Why? You ask? Because you want the team to be better, that’s why. True, there’s nothing we can do about it. But we can make fun of the person most responsible, and any of the kool aid drinkers foolish enough to step in and defend him.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
I didn’t admit anything, Chicken. That was sarcasm. Anyone sober could have seen it.

MR, Was I upset? No. was I disappointed? Yes.
I love what Al has done foe the team, nfl and our 3 championships, but I too think its time for him to move on. Clearly he has not had a good track record. He has a lot of football knowledge still, but his youth has surely passed him by. He no longer has the energy to do what it takes to put the work into scouting, evaluations, etc. for someoepne who rules like he does, its just not possible to suceed.
we need a younger GM that will listen more to his coaches.
I am a realist. its possible we could go 5-11 or 10-6. we look good on paper ever year, but don’t mran we will.
all a fan can do is hope for a championship. otherwise what’s the point?
at the end of the day al is the owner and all your and my whining won’t change it. so why waste my life whining?
the day I become such a pesimist of any of my favorite sport teams, is the day I don’t call my self a fan of that team.
those are MY opinions based and I base them on wht my priorities in life are.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I come here to read about and sometimes blog about Raiders football. I think MR is wrong about the team we will have next year, but in the end one of us will be right and the other wrong, or maybe we will both be somewhere in the middle. I wanted us to pick up a big run stuffing D lineman, but I do think that even with the people we have we will be better at stopping the run than we were last year. The number one improvement is that the undersized past his prime Warren Sapp won’t be there. Kelly will be much better at that spot than Sapp was. Number two reason is that Gabril Wilson will help cut down on the long runs that Schwagert missed tackles contributed to last year. The problems stopping the run weren’t all Schwagert’s fault, but he sure wasn’t part of the answer either. Next, Sands is hopefully past some of the upheaval in his personal life, having had time to deal with the loss of his mother. Richarson, in his second year should be able to contribute more to stopping the run. A healthy Burgess will also help. William Joseph will be a better backup D tackle than Tyler Brayton was. Also two shutdown CB’s will allow the defense to be more agressive against the run. So that is my list of reasons I believe we will be better against the run this year, and I see reasons why we will be better in every area this year. If I am wrong, it won’t be for the first time, but I would rather be able to look forward to the season with optimism that to think that there is no hope.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Raidermight, you contradict yourself. You say that Davis needs to move on (pessimistic), then say that the minute you become pessimistic, you’ll stop being a fan. You said yourself, Al’s unqualified to GM a team today. Hate to use the p word, but that’s pessimistic. It’s true, and I have no problem with it. Most fans feel the same way. But you can’t come back right after than and call other people out for their pessimism, and give them the ultimatum of being positive or finding a new team to be a fan of. You’re pessimistic too. So, follow your own advice and find a new team yourself.

I don’t have any beef with you. I was talking about everytime I read your posts it seems as if you are beefing with someone, anyone.
I don’t have a problem with you or anyone else here. I just enjoy having an outlet to express my opinions and maybe learn a thing or two in the process. In this case YOU CAN teach an old Dogg new tricks.
In my time here I have seen a lot. Back in the day I had beef with others, including you, but honestly what is the point? In the end I was never satisfied and was left feeling like an asshole because I was beefing with someone I didn’t even know. Why bother getting all worked up about opinions anyway? Or facts for that matter? Life is far too short to be hung up on such things.
There is so much negativity that is constantly barraging the human senses in this day and age, so why focus on it? It’s everywhere. It’s unavoidable. It’s much harder to find the joy that exists within everyday life.
Please feel free to continue igniting firey debate with all that will take you on. I just think you would be a happier dude if you chose to re-direct your focus now and again. In other words lighten up a bit and maybe inject a little joy into your life. Give yourself a reason to smile.
Unless your idea of happiness is being miserable and making others miserable in the process. Maybe your thing is just getting a reaction, hell if I know. I may be wrong, but I do actually think that you are a Raider fan, why would you know so much about them otherwise?
Whatever the case may be, I think ther is a decent dude behind the moniker. Maybe give him a chance once in a while…
May 8th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Raiderkoolaid, considering what’s transpired between Kiffin and Davis, and the fact that we never addressed our porous run defense, I can say this; I’m optimistic that we’ll win 4 games.

Chicken, Al Davis is our current general manager. Yet, Ridermight is saying that Al needs to move on. This establishes RM’s view that the team is poorly managed, as we speak. That is pessimistic. That is a revelation that he feels no different than any Davis critic who posts here. Yet, he ends by saying that people who are pessimistic need to find another team. Evidently, everyone but him.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

May 8th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
We may not have addressed the run D to the extent that I would have liked, but the signing of Gabril Wilson and moving Kelly to the undertackle possition addressed it to a degree, as did improving our depth with William Joseph as a backup tackle instead of Brayton.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Put what ever spin you’d like to on it MR. While it is true that Al needs to move on, that doesn’t mean our team has to lose or i have to bash it every chance I get.
I will be cheering on my team the loudest every sunday. Every season there are some moves I agree with, some that I don’t. That doesn’t mean that we will lose because of them.
The difference between you, kk, and some others is that I just post things like that on random occassions. You do it all the time.
No where did I say we were going to lose. I just said, i don’t agree with Al. He has proven me right and wrong before and ignoring the past 5 years, our coaches have been able to produce wins besides Al.
My faith is in the team, not Al. All just brings in talent, his coaches and players have always had to find a way to win.
Sure there hasn’t been any recent super bowls, but other teams still haven’t even won one.

Also, I don’t know what transpired between Al Davis and Kiffin. I am sure something did, but we read so many lies about the Raiders that I don’t know what the truth is. First Kiffin was going to be gone within days, and then when that didn’t happen Al Davis was just waiting for March 15 to fire him because some supposed claus in his contract said that if he were fired after that date Al wouldn’t have to pay as much. I turned out not to be true, so what was really true?
May 8th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Remember when Gerard Warren sacked Jay Cutler in the end zone for a safety? That was the shit. Warren was fierce on that play. He just needs to stay healthy and with more reps will come more consistency.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I guess we’re in a holding pattern right now as it’s a slow week that’s for sure. Not much being said on this blog. Some bickering back and forth, lots of political babble on “Hartwell Aboard” (previous topic), and numerous one-liners in response to one another.
Oh well, I wish I had something profound to say, some news breaking info or some insight on a new draftee which we weren’t aware of…sorry folks, nothing.
I did make a post about the cheating Patriots and their coach Bill (I can’t win unless I cheat by filming your signals) but
that just pisses many of us off because we feel that BB got a slap on the wrist. While
on this topic, can anyone explain why the commisioner, Roger Goodell, destroyed the cheating tape (s)? What was the story behind that and why wasn’t it pushed for an explanation that made sense. What was wrong with saving it for future use and historic evidence, etc.?
Question: Will Seabass ever win a game for us in the closing minutes when it’s do or die? Isn’t he overdue, just for one?
Will Walter Andrews ever live up to the potential he shows at ASU where he past for over 10,000 yards and broke many of the long standing records?
Will Johnny Lee Higgins live up to his hype and potential this year? Will he put on some weight and build some strength without losing his speed? I remember his pre-season comments last year: “You have to catch the ball, if it’s thrown into the stands, you have to go into the stands and catch it.”
He only fumbled and ran with fear?
And, finally, just to shut some of us up. Will someone tell Robb Ryan to PLEASE “BLITZ” once in a “freaking” while.
And, when we have our opponent on a 3rd and long, and since he doesn’t want to blitz, will he stop having our DE dropping back to where we only have 2 or 3 people rushing and the opposing QB gets so much time that he able to find an open receiver…and sure enough they get a “freaking” first down. I can’t think of anything that gets me more pissed than that. Funble, interception, they’re all part of the game, but that prevent defense only prevents you from winning. Ya, maybe (I’m never going to blitz) Robb Ryan needs to be fired. Or maybe we can trade him to Gruden for Monte Kiffen, he’ll blitz 4 out of every 5 plays.

May 8th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Raiderkoolaid,
I agree. There is only so much you can do every year to address your needs.
I’m not going to get angry at the fact we still have holes. Every team still has a lot of them. Just look at New England. They still lost the Super Bowl.
All you can do is hope that some of the moves work.
One thing I am excited about is that we wont be seeing that Stuart is the starting safety this year.
A combo of Nnamdi, DeAngelo, Huff, Wilson and Routt will be a nice group to watch in the secondary. All I can do is hope that Gibril will have atleast a little impact against the run. Anything better than Stu has been doing would be a big improvement.
We shall see. Every year there is hope. Unless they bring back Shell for a third stint.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Riverside, I share your oppinion of the prevent defense.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Do you know why the blitz would always be a success for the Raiders D? Because it would always be a surprise! No one ever expects the Raiders to blitz.
I honestly think that the Raiders WILL blitz more next season because of the confidence level that having Hall on one side and Nnamdi on the other will bring. They will be more willing to take risks…

Yet, your opinion is that Al Davis is no longer qualified to be a GM in this league, which by default makes you pessimistic. You know this team can’t win. But instead of leaving it at that, you segue into this hypocritical guilt trip aimed at other Davis critics, giving them the ultimatum of being optimistic, or cutting.

Drama? Wow. Total misinterpretation.
It’s cool bro, whatever. Just trying to throw a little kindness your way. Maybe you’re just not used to people being nice to you.
What would you like to discuss that is new? Something that any of us hasn’t heard from you endless times? Anything?
…..
Tune down the drama, Raiderdogg.

we did address the run d, but is it enough.

is that Freedom Rock? Turn it up!

MR, you don’t think that Kelly is an upgrade over an old worn out Warren Sapp, and that Wilson is a huge upgrade over Schwageirt? And yes, I did pick out that name on purpose.

good my man. life is good. can’t wait for the start of the season. This weeks minis should be interesting. Hopefully someone emerges.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Ok. Put what ever spin you want. It’s clear you have no reasoning left. I’m not going to waste a lot of time debating with you semantics.

raiderkoolaid….
kiff has a plan… contract year he wants to prove he can get the job done .(he wants people to knock on his door) he’s a opportunistic. but at the same time i think he gonna do his best for the team. i think he learned alot last year. he also knew his personel. he knew where we were weak at. kiff also knows he has a challenge, playoffs or gone i think he’s up for this
‘we’ll see.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
OG, good to see your on. Maybe there will be something interesting to read. I hope the other regulars start to come in.
It’s a slow night for me, so I will checking in a few times tonight.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
See y’all later. Go Raiders.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Raiderkoolaid, our pass defense isn’t as bad. It needed a scheme adjustment more than talent. We need run stoppers, period. Tommy Kelly stops the run like a girl scout. He’s useless. But paid well!
May 8th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
good to hear bro.
I’m liking the kid from Sebastopol, Greyson. I think he may have a legitimate shot. At least the psquad. What do you think of this kid, got any deets for me?
Who do you have your eye on?
May 8th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Definitely Dogg. I’m sure something interesting will come up. We’re talking Raiders here!!

Bye, Oakglenn. You just came and went…
I barely even knew you were there.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Oakglenn, you’re about to come back as one of your other screennames, aren’t you?
May 8th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Oakglenn always does this. Comes in, acts like he has things to do, then comes back under an alias. And, I swear, someone who’s only been here a week can spot his alias comments, let alone someone who’s been here over a year.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
We will find out starting September. I don’t believe we are going to abandon the run after we spent the number four overall pick on McFadden, and then our biggest pickup on the O line was Kwame Harris, a OT who has had problems pass protecting but is a quality run blocker.
