Pre-minicamp notes
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, June 2nd, 2008 at 8:19 pm in Oakland Raiders.
A few items before the Raiders convene for their mandatory three-day minicamp, the last time the team will be together in its entirety before training camp begins:
– There are those in the Raiders front office who aren’t sure if LaMont Jordan will show up for the Raiders minicamp Tuesday.
The smart move for Jordan would be to show up and play, forcing the Raiders’ hand as well as giving his next employer a reason to think he has the proper motivation to be productive.
I thought Jordan’s signing was a worthwhile gamble when the Raiders got him in free agency after serving as a backup to Curtis Martin. But the truth is, you never know how a running back will hold up in the NFL with 250-plus carries until he actually does it _ and Jordan simply didn’t hold up.
It will be interesting to see how Michael Turner fares with Atlanta. As LaDainian Tomilinson’s backup in San Diego, Turner’s stats were a virtual mirror of what Jordan did with the Jets.
– A quick story about Stuart Schweigert, who signed a four-year contract with the Redskins Monday.
An elementary school classmate of my daughter’s a few years ago had a rare form of muscular cancer and missed a year of school, undergoing agonizing rounds of chemotherapy and treatment. His family happened to be huge fans of the Raiders. He was a fan of Schweigert, well before the safety became the fans’ whipping boy.
I told Schweigert about it, and he urged me to set up a get-together. I e-mailed Amy Trask, and she said she would do everything in her power to make sure it happened. The boy’s blood cell counts were up and down because of the chemotherapy, and a couple of potential visits were shelved.
It got to the end of the year, the Raiders were circling the drain, yet when the boy was well enough to make to Alameda, it happened. He came to a practice, got to eat lunch with the players along with his father, and Schweigert did everything he could to make the kid feel special. As did the Raiders.
Do I think Schweigert got a bum deal in Oakland? Certainly not. But here’s hoping he turns it around in Washington.
– That said, if Schweigert thought it was tough as the last line of defense in Oakland, think of how hard they’ll come down on him in Washington when he misses a tackle while dealing with the ghost of Sean Taylor.
– CNN-SI’s Jim Trotter reports Odell Thurman is facing another suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. I think the only time I’ve ever heard of one of these reports being wrong in the case of a substance abuse violation was in the case of Charlie Garner in Philadelphia, and Trotter is an excellent reporter.
I made the point in the previous blog that “unless the Raiders already have some well-founded information” with regard to not claiming Thurman, they erred in not claiming him on waivers. If the report is correct, they probably did have good information.
Even so, why not claim Thurman anyway?
You get him for salaries which are paltry to begin with and that you may never have to pay. If he wins his appeal, you’ve got a shot at a reclamation project. If he doesn’t, you lose nothing because he doesn’t get paid on suspension.
You get hammered in the press, maybe, but since when have the Raiders ever cared about that?
– If Thurman did either miss a test or test positive, it didn’t happen when with regard to the Bengals’ OTAs. It happened before then. Once you’re in the program, you must essentially be on call and report to a test within 24 hours. It has nothing to do with being at the club facility or during a club function. It has nothing to do with when the club is practicing or not practicing.
You’re essentially at the whim of the NFL at all times, and Thurman, assuming the report is correct, managed to stay clean for a long time, only to slip up after he got reinstated.
By the way, in the NFL’s eyes, a missed test is the same as a positive test, for obvious reasons.

Jerry, why the obsession with signing this POS Thurman? He will never learn, and he would contribute nothing to the Raiders except headaches…put a sock in it for goodness sake.

Lamont must go…………….soon.
June 2nd, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Give us something good, like what condition our cap is in right now, or what is new on the McFadden front, or maybe how great it would be for the Raiders to sign Chris Henry, lol.

Jordan still in the fold (for now)
June 1st has come and gone, which means the LaMont Jordan watch has officially started.
Jordan, under contract through 2009, hasn’t attended a single offseason activity. Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said he didn’t know if Jordan would be at the mandatory minicamp, which runs Tuesday through Thursday. As of today, teams can release players and spread the salary-cap hit over two years instead of one.
Jordan’s agent, Alvin Keels, checked in Monday afternoon to say his client was still a Raider “as of right now” and that Jordan “plans to be there” for minicamp.”
The question remains how long will as of right now last? Most everyone thought Jordan would have been released by now, considering his $9.7 million salary through 2009 and the recent drafting of Darren McFadden.
But, at least one league official familiar with the team — and more importantly, owner Al Davis — isn’t so sure Jordan’s pink slip is a foregone conclusion.
Davis refused to release Jordan last year, even when he clearly fell out of favor and rookie Michael Bush was available for activation. Then, when the Raiders drafted McFadden, Dominic Rhodes was the first to go when many figured it would be Jordan.
Kiffin has gone on the record to say the team doesn’t know what they have in Bush. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp has gone on the record to say this offense needs three starter-quality backs.
With Justin Fargas and McFadden locked in, Jordan might be retained for that third-party insurance. Remember, injuries forced the Raiders to go through three starters last season so the crowded backfield came in handy.
Jordan would certainly love a fresh start somewhere else. We’ll see soon if he’ll get his wish.
Free safety Stuart Schweigert got his when the Raiders release him in May and he couldn’t be happier. He was signed by the Redskins on Monday, telling the Washington Post, “I feel like a 1,000-pound bear has been lifted off my chest.”

From Darren McFadden´s Blog…..
- I am just getting back to Oakland from the Hall of Fame. Each team sends its rookies to Canton in order to learn about the history of the game. We had history with us because two of our Hall of Famers, Willie Brown and Ted Hendricks, went with us.
We flew out yesterday and got to Ohio at about 11 last night. Our wake up call came at 7:30 and then after breakfast we went to the Hall of Fame.
It was really cool seeing all of that history, learning about when the game started and seeing all of those great coaches and players in there.
You can tell things have changed just by looking at some of the cleats they have on display. They looked like work boots with spikes on the bottom. They have come a long way since then.
I was watching highlights of all the running backs. There was this one highlight when Dallas was playing Washington and they had the ball near the goalline. Tony Dorsett took the handoff, dipped inside, put his foot in the hole, spun and then bounced it outside. He left the defenders crashing into each other and scored. I know after watching that there are some things he did that I wouldn’t mind picking up.
It was a great trip. It’s so important to keep the legacy of the game going because these great players paved the way for all of us. You always have to appreciate the history and those who played the game before you. I know I do.
- I love the Bay Area. Weather is great and I’m going to love making it my home. I just haven’t found my spot to live just yet. I’ve been looking around for the last couple weeks but haven’t settled on anything. I found one spot in Pleasanton that I liked but it’s just a little too far from the facility. It would probably be a 45 minute drive each day and I don’t want to commute like that.
I’ve been looking in Pleasanton, Oakland Hills, Alameda. Coming from the South the places are a lot smaller than I’m used to, but don’t get me wrong I’m not looking for anything big. I want to start small, something with decent space but not too big. I don’t do much cooking and most of these places that I’m seeing don’t have yards.
The most important thing for me is proximity. I want to be close to work so I need to find a nice spot that’s not too far out.
If you have any ideas let me know.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I remember one good hit Stuart made his whole career was on tony gonzales that made him have a concussion and couldnt stand up for about 3-4 minutes, damn you stu !! just ONE!

Jerry,
Thanks for reminding me about the fact Thurman couldn’t avoid a test by skipping OTA’s. The rest of my deductive reasoning post seems true as per Trotter however. Given Goodell’s track record, the whole issue could be moot soon. What a waste.
Glad to hear Stu is getting another chance. Always felt he was a good guy playing in a garbage system behind a sub-par front 7. I don’t think he’ll be a pro bowler but he deserves a chance to play.
June 2nd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
JERRY - PLEASE snoop around about the defensive changes Stu and Spires both mentioned in recent weeks. Three open days to try to give us an idea if we’re going to run an NFL defensive scheme this year.

Whats this talk of the Raiders building a stadium in Pleasanton?
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:03 am
Really?
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:08 am
http://www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/stories/2008/01/07/daily54.html
Here is an article regarding the stadium being built in Dublin, CA. It would be ALOT closer to where I live at about 40-50 minutes away from San Jose. I would be ok with it but I would agree that there isn’t enough freeway interchanges for it to work. 680 runs north to south and 580 runs west to east and that is it. That area already gets way too much traffic and it would be hell with the stadium. Considering I don’t live right there, they can go ahead and build it but it would be a nightmare for the community.
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:09 am
http://www.coliseum.com/info/history.php
The McAfee Coliseum was built in 1966. I would say its about time the Raiders got a new stadium and I’d rather them do this than move back to L.A. or anywhere else.

I would love to shut up 49er fans by seeing them move to L.A. It would be so fun to put that in their face after all the crap they have talked over the years. They should change the name 49ers because those only existed in San Francisco. The whole thing would be perfect.

I’m tired. Goodnight.
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:29 am
Here’s a thought….. wait for the A’s to leave or even before. Construct a stadium in the existing parking lot, then tear down the old Coliseum and pave over for new parking. Honestly would it be sweet to not have the Niners around. Of course but when the Raiders start winning in the next couple of years, and we have the offense now to do it and maintain for many years, who will we get to talk crap to. Although it would be nice to see the Niners leave and get our sloppy seconds in the LA Coliseum while the new place is finished-and all the LA Raider fans would probably buy tickets every Sunday just to boo the crap out of them!!
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:13 am
hmm, cut jordan and hire travis henry, jsut for camp and to piss off shanny
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:39 am
Newberry to the Chokers is a pleasant surprise. Now if their starting center would pull a hammy forcing Newberry into the starting roll, the Raider defense would know Phillips snap count by watching Newberry’s head lift up when he snaps the ball. Please Jerry know more blogs about how you would build the team, thats 2 blogs on Thurman already, give it a rest and let kiffin and Davis do thier jobs. The obvious reason you don’t bring Thurman around is because the NFL starts punishing teams for a players conduct either this month or next.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:42 am
Sorry thats No more blogs about Thurman please. We don’t need players with illegal habits roaming around the facility.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:43 am
Thats goes for Henry too.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:48 am
Jason Jones latest blog is more garbage to the eyes. He is still clinging to the resignation letter myth and how Davis has somehow made Kiffin mute. What a joke.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:52 am
You do not sign Thurman because character counts.
Kiffin and I believe Davis are trying to change the culture and you do not want to send mixed messages to a relatively young team.
The NFL is a different league now. The days of the Tooz and the Snake are over. We do not want another Stacy Toran tragedy.
I like your work
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:53 am
I was going to finish by saying:
I like your work Jerry but pushing the signing of players with baggage is inconsistent with where this team needs to focus its energy.
June 3rd, 2008 at 5:57 am
Well I don’t know what kind of penalties teams will get for players conduct issues but they don’t need to loose draft picks over either one of those pot heads.
June 3rd, 2008 at 6:00 am
Jordan is around to see if he can bring anything to the table before they decide to release him. I am glad they are making the lazy s.o.b. come to camp and compete with the others. They don’t have to give him the reps either. If Bush looks good Jordan is a goner.
June 3rd, 2008 at 6:13 am
Kiffin’s demeanor will be scrutinized as Raiders begin minicamp
By Jason Jones - jejones@sacbee.com
Published 12:00 am PDT Tuesday, June 3, 2008
Raiders coach Lane Kiffin views the mandatory minicamp that begins today as no big deal.
It’s not that Kiffin sees no significance in having the entire team together for five practices over three days.
The fact is, most of the Raiders have attended some portion of this spring’s voluntary offseason program.
Following a flurry of free-agent additions and with many young players on the roster, most see the need to be at team headquarters in Alameda preparing for the 2008 season.
There have been notable exceptions: Running back LaMont Jordan, who is expected to be released soon, and defensive end Derrick Burgess, who works out on his own every offseason.
But there is plenty to accomplish this week, and several Raiders will look to establish themselves before training camp in July.
1. Kiffin. Much has been made of his demeanor at practice and exactly how much control he has after a tumultuous offseason that included Raiders owner Al Davis asking for his resignation. This minicamp marks Kiffin’s first time with the entire team since the offseason turned into a daytime soap opera.
Things appear to have calmed, but every move Kiffin makes is scrutinized. Is Davis quietly watching or has he muted his fiery personality? Everyone will be watching to see how Kiffin interacts with players and coaches.
2. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Now the Raiders’ offensive leader in his second season, he has been studious with the playbook and looks comfortable in his role. Russell needs to keep that up this week. Even though minicamp is non-contact, the coaching staff wants to see Russell make the correct decisions and not develop bad habits by forcing passes he wouldn’t make in game situations.
3. Wide receiver Javon Walker. Coming off a knee injury with Denver last season, Walker is working his way back to 100 percent. Russell is developing a rapport with Drew Carter, but Walker is the No. 1 receiver the Raiders have lacked.
Walker needs to show he has progressed well and will be healthy for training camp.
4. Wide receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins. This third-round pick from 2007 must show a grasp of the offense and better route running ability or risk not making the team. He played sparingly as a rookie, and the Raiders have added several wide receivers and shown no hesitation in cutting high draft picks (see third-round pick Quentin Moses last year). Higgins has value as a returner, but the more he can do, the better chance he solidifies his spot on the roster.
5. Burgess. He didn’t register double-digit sacks in 2007 for the first time in three seasons as a Raider. Has he put on the weight defensive coordinator Rob Ryan wants him to? Burgess wanted a new deal last year, before the Raiders’ spending spree this offseason. He can’t be happy with his contract in light of those given to Tommy Kelly (seven years, $50.5 million) and Terdell Sands (four years, $17 million) in back-to-back offseasons.

I think Bush is in better condition than Big Brown. If he’s not I don’t think Al will have him shot.

Run the horse bad foot and all…they all end up at the glue factory sooner or later anyhow…let the horse have his shot at immortality.
June 3rd, 2008 at 7:42 am
Jerry
I think your points about claiming Thurman area all valid, but the potential fine that could occur, should he screw up again, makes it an even tougher decision on claiming him.. I think your right, the team probably doesnt care about the negatitve publicity, but we have seen a more “media-friendly” approach by the team recently with regards to accessibilty to players and coaches. Im just not sure its a wise move from a PR stand point.

Screw Newberry too. Have fun in SoCal not getting any playing time for pizza face Norv. Bolts are going down this year. LT is a cry baby and Rivers is gonna have a career ending injury. Norv wakes up and realizes he isn’t fit to be a head coach and checks into a mental institution. Merriman ends up sharing a cell with Nate Newton after trying to move 50,000 pounds of weed out of his house.

Huff24,
No Way boogy Dublin residents want Raider fans stompin around their pretty suburbia. The Raiders belong in Oakland. I agree with Zay. The only positive thing with the A’s leaving is that it will be easier to construct a stadium in the parking lot.

Raiders are only one of three who shares their stadium with a baseball team. Send the A’s down the road ASAP. Build an all black Raiders stadium with Raiders Hall of Fame. No more dirt infield for a third of the season.
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:26 am
Dakota,
Actually, now that they have mapped the hillbilly genome (took a grad student an hour) the term “hillbilly” is now an officially recognized ethnographic subgroup.
You can take a hillbilly out of the hills, but you can’t un-mutate chromosome 14:

Jerry West gives away Gasol to the Lakers and Kevin McHale gives away KG to the Celtics. Everyone and their dogs knew the NBA was gonna find a way to have these two in the finals. Lakers in five cuz Kobe always gets his way. Who is more of a cry baby b*tch? Kobe or LT??? Screw them all. Raiders are all the matters in this world!!!
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:38 am
Good one Bo. I used that exact picture in one of my posts months ago joking about the Arkansas Alumni that were trying to hire Kiffin away from the Raiders…great picture.
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:53 am
Jordan has to be gone, unless he wants to restructure his deal, which I doubt he will. He probably thinks that he’s a top back in the league and got a raw deal in Oakland. He seems like a classic finger pointer - everybody but him is responsible. Anyway, his attitude sux and Kiffin won’t want him around, plus he’s at best the third back now and third backs have to play special teams (I can’t imagine Jordan doing that). Fargas, McFadden, and Bush, with a couple of cheap journeymen vets and rookie FA’s, and camp will be set. We’ve got Echemandu in camp again, and he looked every bit as good as Jordan and continued to play and learn in the Zone scheme with the texans last year. Fargas and McFadden are safe, Bush has the lead on the 3rd spot, but if somebody shocks us, Bush would be the odd man out. I think Bush wins out just because he’s so big.
Even if his RB skills don’t translate to the NFL, he should be a great short yardage back with his size, which is exactly what we need to complement Fargas and McFadden. Who knows, like Kiffin said, Bush could be the best of the bunch. I can’t wait to see him play - it’s like getting the top 2 running backs in the draft two years in a row (if you exclude A. Peterson, who seems more like a god than a RB ;)).
If Al wants to screw with Jordan, which isn’t out of the question, he’ll hold onto him until Week 1, and cut him then. Jordan actually deserves it, based on his poor work ethic in learning the playbook (which he admitted that he didn’t study) and poor work ethic in the weight room (we all heard Sapp’s comments). Al won’t pay 4 mil for him, so don’t worry about it - it will happen in time with the likely scenario being he gets cut as soon as McFadden signs on the dotted line.
June 3rd, 2008 at 8:56 am
This guy hates the Lakers!
http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3422313
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:05 am
Raider4life,
If the NBA wanted a Lakers-Celtics finals so badly, why didn’t it conspire to have the Celtics win the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals and get the matchup everyone wanted clear back in 2002?
If the NBA hates the Spurs so much, why did it allow the Spurs to defeat the Lakers in 2003?
If the NBA wanted the Lakers in the finals so badly, why did the ref miss the ball hitting the rim in game 4 against the Spurs that would have ended the game prior to the Barry play?
If the NBA wanted the Lakers in the finals so badly, why did they allow Utah to go over the back on all those rebounds in the semi-finals, or why didn’t Kobe get to the FT line in the WCF against the Spurs?
If the NBA wanted the Celtics to be in the finals so badly, why did they allow ATL to take the Celtics to 7 games in the 1st round?
If there are all of these NBA conspiracies to match teams in the finals, why didn’t the ref that bet on all the games blow the whistle on the NBA? Why hasn’t anyone in the past 25 years come forward with information like that? You can’t keep something like that a secret.
If Jerry West conspired to get the Lakers Pau Gasol, why did he wait until he was no longer the Grizzlies GM?
But I do agree with your Lakers in 5 prediction, lol.
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:11 am
Nice one Dakota, but come on pls. We all know both the KG and Gasol deals were BS. However, if anyone wants to bet on the Celtics let me know cuz I’m looking for some easy money and this one is too easy. Anyway screw the NBA, the Celtics and Kobe. Only one thing in life matters…RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:17 am
Raider4life
Okay…there may have been something fishy with the Gasol and KG deals, but the NBA had nothing to do with it….former Laker (West) and Celtics (McHale and Ainge) worked it out amongst themselves, lol.
I knew McHale would never trade KG to the Lakers…the Lakers offered them Odom and Bynum…the Wolves would be way better off right now had they taken the Lakers’ offer.
THANK YOU KEVIN!
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:21 am
The Raiders should keep LaMont.
He’ll be fired up after losing his position last year. He’s gonna want it back!
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:22 am
NO Thurman!!! He will damage team chemistry!
Gosh, what is the strange fascination with Thurman? Is there some sort of personal favor connection that requires McDonald to keep calling for signing Thurman?
Is he a Pro Bowl player? Is he a known leader of a winning NFL team? Has he impressed his team and other teams in the league with his plays? How many years of experience does he have? Two? and already he is suspended and did not play for one of those years?
It seems there is confusion with how Raiders resurrect players. Raiders want players who can play, who are proven but are not given the last opportunities to bow out because of other non-suspension-causing issues. These players are already well respected by the players in the league (Crazy Alzado comes to mind immediately) so they are immediately respected as productive players by team members. Signing these players make sense. They have the credentials, they have the on-field skills and work ethics and commitment to easily win team mate’s respect. They add to the team.
Thurman is a young SCREW-UP who could not handle life in the NFL. He reminds me of some child “stars” in Hollywood where they shine for a moment and then fade out with drug problems. Team members will not respect Thurman, they will be suspicious of his work ethics and commitment to the team. They will question the team management’s decision. Every mistake he makes will be seen as, “YOu see? He is a louse!” so he cannot do wrong. If he is on my team, I will not give him benefit of a doubt, I will expect him to impress me for at least the whole season, playing his heart out. That young man has dug a very deep hole for himself. He does NOT add to the team, he is a constant negative distraction. Why sign him?
We should be signing Asomugha and sort out the deal with Burgess ASAP and forget Thurman. I have been trying not to say this but if we lose Asomugha and Burgess, it will show Davis cares more about his own ego, pride and power than building a good product.
Forget Thurman and start asking why is Asomugha left unsigned? Why is Burgess not given a new deal?
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:28 am
Coach are you kiddin me?? At best Jordan is #5 on the depth chart plus he b*tches too much, won’t study the playbook and never gives 100%. You really want some clown like that? Hell no!! McFadden, Bush and Fargas together with O’neal and Griffith make up possibly the best young corp of backs. Jordan just adds a pile of sh*t to a great mix of young guys. Jordan will join Travis Henry and drunkas* hillbilly kicker Vanderjunk in the CFL.

Them make your decision about Lamont and his dedication to his team and his community!
What do you do for free?
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:37 am
Like I said yesterday, if Lamont Jordan is on our roster for training camp or beyond, someone needs to take AD out behind the shed and put him out of our misery Old Yeller’ style, lol.
That fiasco last year when AD refused to waive Jordan because he was afraid that the Broncos or Chiefs might pick him up was ridiculous. Bush was ready to play at that time, and instead of seeing what we had in Bush, we kept fatboy…what a way to run a franchise…kinda like benching a hof RB in the early 90s over some personal BS…crazy.

Keeping LaFat makes no sense at all unless they are not yet sure Bush is 100%. LaFat may be at minicamp this week, but I seriously doubt he makes it thru the week. Once they see how much stronger, faster and quicker Bush is they will tell LaFat to pack his bags and hit the plane for Toronto. LaFat disgraced the #34 jersey the past two years.

June 3rd, 2008 at 9:58 am
MistaBrown who do you want to replace Ryan and Seabass? I haven’t heard one player on defense say he needs to go. Seabass isn’t always great, but I would still say he is as good as half the kickers in the NFL. The defense this year is gonna be a lot better with the younger guys upfront, two shut down corners, moving Huff to free safety and getting rid of piece of worthless piece of sh*t Lil Stui.
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:58 am
Mistabrown must have a good case of denial kickin in too. I see you with all of the name calling when someone doesn’t agree with you. WAKE UP! You are the very thing that you rail against. Take a long look in the mirror numbskull.

MistaBrown. Everyone knows AD loves his players and always takes their side (aside from Marcus). If they thought Ryan was an idiot they would go to Al. I’m not saying Ryan is even close to being what his dad was in ‘85, but again who do you want to replace him. Also, name me an available kicker you want to replace Seabass. You talk all this sh*t without any solutions.
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 am
Random who cares its not your money and free agency is pretty much over..
The cap is meaningless teams keep who they want regardless of the cap and when teams release an aging vet they point to the cap to appease the fans.
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:14 am
The Raiders likely did not claim Thurman off waivers due to combination of good info and that it would take one of the 80 roster spots. No exemptions for the NFLE players has hurt teams this year.
I think with how physical the game is now, with the size and speed of players the roster limit has to increase. Somewhere around 60 active plus 5 practice squad when season starts and maybe 90 for offseason, minicamps etc.
That way you’ll have some real evaluation of players and you might have some more suprise players making a team that maybe didn’t have enough film.
A rookie salary cap would also allow teams to keep veteran players and harken back to the days before free agency when teams could grow there own and see the rewards instead of farming them to the highest bidder.
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 am
Dakota,
The Gasol was the biggest B.S. in NBA history. He was gift wrapped for the Lakers. Didnt they trade him for Kwame Brown and a draft pick (which will now be a low pick). You cant tell me they couldnt have gotten more for a big man All Star in his prime.
Jerry West is somewhere laughing his a@@ off. Popovich is right when he said that trade needs to be investigated.
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 am
Who wouldn’t want to play for Rob Ryan? (Well, other than players that care about winning, but those are so few and far in-between that they don’t count.) I mean, pizza parties and naps during team meetings, he never says a bad word about a player to the media, and you only have to learn about 4 pages of defensive schemes.
No wonder no player ever comes out against RR, who would?
June 3rd, 2008 at 10:16 am
Raider4life,
I said the solution do you read bits and pieces or just the parts you like?
BRING IN A DOZEN UNEMPLOYED KICKERS AND LET THEM COMPETE!

RaiderTay,
That trade was not as one-sided as you might think…check this article out:
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=8913
It talks about how Pau’s brother Marc, who was part of the trade to Memphis, was the Spanish league MVP this past season…he may end up better than Pau.
In the long run, Marc Gasol + $49 million in cap space + two first rounders and a second rounder may really set Memphis up to compete down the road.
Of course, once Marc comes over to the US, I think he should be reunited with Pau on the Lakers, lol.

The D is already better simply by getting rid of piece of sh*t Lil Stui. Now we just need to dump LaFat and the O will be better too.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:15 am
The reason the Raiders wouldn’t pick up Odell now is because now the NFL is going to start fining teams for their player’s behavior and they sure would like to start with the Raiders…

You are the kind of dude that you get in a kcok down drag out brawl with and then share a beer. I can respect that.

Not sure what a “Kcok down” brawl is, but I don’t think I will be participating, lol.
Funny picture on 182 though.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:28 am
“Even so, why not claim Thurman anyway?”
Hey Jerry, maybe you missed the memo, but Goodell is talking about taking away draft picks and fining teams due to problem players.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:31 am
lol
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:32 am
Just think, at this very moment at Raiders HQ LaMont Jordan is reinjuring his back…
And did anyone notice that in the last set of OTA pictures Kiffin is wearing Laker gear?

Jerry Mac…. Also, we don’t give a rip about, Kiff’s wardrobe selection or whether or not he’s doing his Pete Carroll impersonation.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:51 am
The Camera Cranes are still up at HQ.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:51 am
Jerry,
Get me the scoop on Kiffin’s wardrobe quick! Is he or is he not wearing Laker gear?
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:52 am
What a Day! Mini-Camp, Obama, Hillary eating scheit.
June 3rd, 2008 at 11:58 am
Camera cranes? KK is it surprising to have them up at spring OTAs? Or are they just to spy on Kiffin and make sure he doesn’t talk to anyone on defense?
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:00 pm
What if Kiff is wearing those hideous Celtic colors??
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:08 pm
I didn’t notice them up during the voluntary OTA’s the last few weeks.

Dammit! The Warriors just extended Don Nelsen’s contract. Why don’t they hire Avery Johnson?!
Where’s Oakglenn, I feel like mixing it up now!
June 3rd, 2008 at 12:53 pm
I may try tomorrow, but, even peeking through a hole in the fence, it doesn’t take more than 3 minutes for security to arrive.

Don’t ask Jerry the tough questions. Jerry has limited access. Thats why we need your guerilla blog to fill in the blanks.
