Young stars should pay attention

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 at 11:51 am in Oakland Raiders.

If the Raiders are smart, they found the photo posted on Profootalltalk.com of someone who looks an awful lot like Javon Walker spraying champagne at a Las Vegas nightclub.

They took that photo, then placed it next to another of Walker as he lay in a Sunrise Medical Center hospital bed several hours later, the victim of a robbery which cost him cash, jewelry, and in the extreme case, a reported broken orbital bone which could cost him his career.

Then they brought in JaMarcus Russell and Darren McFadden with the message being that whatever happens in Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas. You can carry it around with you the rest of your life _ if you’re lucky enough to make it that far.

No doubt the Raiders first concern is for Walker’s well-being and longterm health, and it’s important to note police believe he was the victim of a crime, not a perpetrator.

But this is the same man who saved a shirt soaked with the blood of former teammate Darrent Williams, telling HBO’s Real Sports it reminded him of what can happen. The same segment contained information which said the incident that resulted in Williams lying in the arms of Walker in a limo, taking his final breaths, started with the spraying of champagne in a nightclub.

With a police investigation on going, it’s not known if the champagne spraying had anything to do with Walker’s injuries. But you’d think that in Walker’s mind, he would have made the connection before winding up in a shirt soaked with his own blood. He’s not a kid _ he’s 29 years old.

The Raiders have issued no update regarding Walker’s condition, and may not address it before Lane Kiffin talks with the media Wednesday at an open session of the club’s final organized team activity.

Behind the scenes, the smart move would be to get someone, perhaps assistant coach-counselor-jack-of-all-trades Willie Brown, who could relay a life lesson to Russell and McFadden, the two players who represent the future of the Raiders franchise.

Both men are likely to make the sojourn to Las Vegas at some point, if they haven’t already. Both have bundles of disposable income and the lure of the neon to someone in their early 20s can be as intoxicating as the champagne.

But if you’ve got $15,000 to spend on a champagne bill, as was reported in Walker’s case, you ought to at least double that amount and invest in a driver and a body guard or three who can keep you out of trouble.

There’s no use in speculating about the severity of Walker’s injuries or whether he’ll play this training camp or at all this year, because there is no hard information. It’s impossible to know whether his fractured eye socket is as bad as the one sustained by Marcus Williams, who was felled by teammate Bill Romanowski and ended up with headaches and depression for a year.

There are indications Walker, who was discovered Monday morning but not identified until the afternoon, could be out as early as today, according to the Associated Press. That would be a good sign.

On June 4, Walker told the media one of the things he brought to the table was his ability to “lead by example.”

On that score, Walker succeeded, although not the way he had in mind.

Good job Jerry! Hit the nail on the head

  2. Brown81 Says:

Great post Jerry. I hope he’s alright and that he and the rest of his teammates learned a lesson here.

  3. Brown81 Says:

It seems like we just can’t catch a break. Any thoughts on what should be done to replace him? Assuming he’s not going to be ready anytime soon. Last I checked, both eyes are helpful to being and NFL-caliber wide receiver.

    first

  5. MR Says:

Oakglenn, stay mute, then. I think I’ve got you in a corner, anyway. You know you were going to pass Walker off on Kiffin, but I called you on it before the words left your Al Davis puckering mouth. Staying mute was the way to go. Save face. I respect that. Well, really, I don’t. It’s pretty weak. A real man steps in and takes his medicine. But you’re not a real man. You’re a blathering idiot, who works at some lame entry level job with the Raiders and thinks he’s Al LoCosalle.

Have a good day, everyone. Vegas and Eyepatch, turn off the television sets and start reading a little. I know your guys’ racism is pretty much built in from childhood. But watching the negative images of blacks on tv all day the way you guys do doesn’t help. Get out. GEt some sunlight. Makes some black friends for a change (the guy who parks your car doesn’t count). And read some books. For your own good.

    Later, Nation.

  6. vegas raider Says:

Brown81, it’s called running the ball 60% of the time, and Zack Miller. The Chargers haven’t had a receiver for years (Chambers end of last year) and they seem to do OK.

  7. RIP Dan Birdwell Says:

Yes, they should. Hope Walker’s gonna be okay. That said,

I would be very interested to see what his contract reads like. If he loses a lot or all the season to foolishness, I’d guess he’ll feel it. If he loses his career (pray not), he’ll lose most of his bonus and all of his salary, since it’s prorated over sixteen games he’ll not play.

At 29, there just is no excuse for putting himself in this position. None.

Dunno Walker’s story before Oakland, but I think Russell and McFadden are in a position to deliver that talk to the rest of their teammates. Russell has his head on straight, and McFadden has already been exposed to these lessons. Not that they don’t stand in need of reinforcement, but let’s recall that teachers tend to have to know things better and more fully than the students.

Bet damn near every player on the roster has a story to tell about someone who had the talent and pssed it away well before the NFL. That would be a hella meeting, and no need for coaches.

    Peace.

  8. Eyepatch Says:

    Good post, thanks.

  9. RIP Dan Birdwell Says:

    Vegas Raider,

Nice point. Your comparison, though, is lacking one detail: we don’t have any reason to believe our D will perform at the level the Bolts’ D has these past few years.

    Peace.

  10. vegas raider Says:

That MR. dude is the biggest idiot. I need to make some black friends huh, does my wife count??

  11. Brown81 Says:

Vegas, yeah I can see that, and I think Zack Miller is awesome and we should have a solid running game. However, I still would like to have one more solid receiver. I don’t trust Curry to stay healthy all season and the rest of the receivers are… well… who are they anyway? It would be nice to get somebody else in there to take some of the pressure off Jamarcus when he has to throw.

  12. BART Bridge Balla Says:

    Javon Walker signing bonus $6M.

  13. vegas raider Says:

I agree as well, but there D got them to AFC championship games and maybe our D can get us back to 500 or better until we improve the roster.

  14. Eyepatch Says:

    MR has problems beyond Javons.

Some good news I think we can all agree on:

UC Berkeley began removing tree-sitters’ gear and slicing ropes from a grove outside Memorial Stadium today, as an 18-month-long protest aimed at preventing the university from cutting down much of the grove neared a possible climax.

About 40 UC police officers cordoned off Piedmont Avenue just west of the stadium as arborists started pulling down the infrastructure that has supported the tree-sitters since they first climbed into the branches Dec. 1, 2006, to protest UC’s plans to clear about two-thirds of the grove for an athletic training center.

Dan Mogulof, a spokesman for the university, said, “We are removing gear and removing lines. We are not removing people.”

Arborists hired by the university cut ropes that ran from one tree to another and removed supplies that protesters had stored in the branches, Mogulof said. They also removed at least one large structure that protesters constructed high in the trees.

The arborists brought in a crane and a cherry-picker as part of the removal.

The university launched the operation one day before an Alameda County Superior Court judge is to rule on a lawsuit filed by the city, tree advocates and a neighborhood group seeking to block construction of the training center.

Mogulof said the operation was timed to “keep a small element of surprise” and to try to keep more protesters from ascending the grove of oaks and other trees when Judge Barbara Miller issues her decision Wednesday.

No matter how Miller rules, Mogulof said, “this remains a dangerous and illegal occupation of university property.”

It was unclear how many protesters were in the branches. Doug Buckwald of the group Save the Oaks estimated there were four, while Mogulof said there were as many as 12.

Mogulof said some of the tree-sitters were “using their own waste as weapons” against police and the arborists, who were from an outside firm that he would not identify.

About 9 a.m., two arborists ascending an oak tree were drenched with a bucket of urine dumped by one of the tree-sitters, to the cheers of about half of a crowd of 75 people that gathered behind police barricades.

Other sitters dropped excrement, but none scored a direct hit, Mogulof said.

Buckwald, watching from the top of the stadium, said, “There’s a lot of tension here.”

No one has been injured and there have been no arrests, authorities said.

Some of the onlookers were backing the tree-sitters, while others said they should climb down.

Kim Kersh, one of the supporters, said he was a staffer at UC.

“This action is extremely unsafe,” he said. Asked how protesters should be removed, Kersh said, “By negotiation. Protesters don’t want to be in trees.”

The tree-sitters’ fate is not directly tied to the lawsuit that Judge Miller is due to rule on Wednesday. Another judge has already said the university can remove the protesters, but UC has not moved against them since gaining permission in October.

UC wants to remove about 100 trees to build the training center, and says it would replace each lost tree with two saplings and one mature tree. All but a few of the trees were planted by the university after the stadium was built in 1923.

The lawsuit that Miller will rule on seeks to block construction of the $125 million training center on the grounds that it would be built atop an earthquake fault and thus violate state law.

The Hayward Fault runs under Memorial Stadium. The city of Berkeley, a neighborhood group and the California Oak Foundation have argued that the training center would be part of Memorial Stadium and therefore cannot be built.

The university argued that the stadium and proposed training center would be separate buildings, and that the center would not be directly atop the fault.

If Miller rules in favor of the university, the training center would serve 13 varsity sports, including football.

  18. JB Says:

Yes! Right, wrong or indifferent, there’s a lesson to be learned - a VERY BIG LESSON. No matter who you are or what you have, it seems there’s always someone who wants or will crap on the parade. Please note, for you people who act foolishly, most the time it will eventually come back and bite you in the a$$. Highly compensated athletes should be especially aware that being on the pedestal only means you’ve got farther to fall.

Hopefully our very young players will take something from this unfortunate situation and be more careful themselves. It’s not all about them. It’s also about all the others around them. That which seems to come so quickly can also disappear just as fast. Relish in your rewards young men but be careful as to how you do it and the image you project. Your hard earned rewards can be fleeting at the blink of the wrong eye.

  30. Riverside Raiders Fan Says:

Excellent Post JERRY, thanks for the updates.

On The Jim Rome Radio talk show (The Jungle) they have been talking about the Javon Walker incident in detail, with varied opinions from all over the country. The overall opinion is that he placed himself in a losing situation with his “ego-idiot-actions.” Many people called in to say that they’re actually looking for these money flashing idiots (spraying champagne was just a bonus) so they can target them when they leave those establishments. And, Javon was reported to be alone?

He’s currently a Raiders player, listed as our number one Wide Receiver, so I wish him well, if he recovers and if he’s kept on the team? But, as Jerry stated in his post…this guy has been in the same exact situation just a year ago. He’s 29 years old and he brags that he’ll lead by example! Nothing more to be said. His word means nothing, his actions show that “he is what he is,” an idiot who doesn’t learn, and he, himself, put himself in this LOSING SITUATION.

Those of you that try to defend or down play his actions, you need to re-evaluate your thinking processes. We (all of us) need to take responsibility for our own actions, and that includes Javon Walker, DOUBLE.

It will be interesting to see how Kiffen handles the situation on Wednesday.
consensus is that the dude (WALKER)

  31. Oakglenn Says:

Last nite we had a riveting discussion on this topic which has taken on a larger discussion by the national media. Now it looks like cockroaches have come in here to spew garbage. I’ll stay above the fray. Nice to see MoRon back in here after his wedding last nite!!

  32. KoolKell Says:

    Nice post Riverside.

  33. Einstein Says:

Dump Walker now, reclame whatever we have givin him and find a replacement. Bad example for a young team, dude is obviously a moron and doesn’t learn from his mistakes or those of others. Bad guy, we don’t need him.

  34. Oakglenn Says:

RRF, that’s exactly what I said last nite. Your first day as a collegian you are told DON’T EMBARRASS THE INSTITUTION, YOUR FAMILY OR YOURSELF. Making the head coach come out and explain you, while you lay prone on a hospital bed is embarrassing to yourself, your family and the instition, or in this case, the organization. That’s problem A. Problem B is this is not the first time this has happened.
Now for everyone that wants to play the victim card, if I wandered out at 3:30 in the morning into the South Bronx and got my head busted up and all my sh** taken, everyone I know would say to me, “what the eff were you thinking?????” Hey, I’m a victim. I should be able to wander around anywhere, at anytime right?? Give me a break. Where does Javon think he’s living, the land of Oz???

Actually the “Oakland Raiders” as opposed to the LA Raiders haven’t had many of these situations. Reminds me of Darrell Russell, another alcoholic.

  40. General Grevious Says:

This guy was in a bidding war over drinks? I don’t care how much money you have, 15 Grand is 15 Grand. There’s a reason why so many mega-rich atheletes and celebrities end up broke. Stupidity. Just ask Ed McMahan.

Come on General. Rarely does anyone make millions and millions of dollars and end up pennyless. It just doesn’t happen in todays world with so many excellent financial advisors.

  42. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

I am trying to withold judgment here… as a fan I hope there is an explanation which does not preclude him becoming a productive Raider.

But hey, the NFL life is not for everyone. Walker may truly be done in this league. The test of Lofton’s coaching ability will be whether he can get one of our youngsters to become a top-flight receiver, and it starts today. I offer this consolation to the fanbase:

AT LEAST IT DIDN’T HAPPEN TWO DAYS BEFORE THE SUPER BOWL

  43. KoolKell Says:

    Good point Bo, re Robbins.

Alcohol is so hard on the body though.

  44. the510 Says:

I hope old man Al negotiated a savvy enough contract to dump him. If the orbital fracture is real, and was suffered in a non-football related activity he may have some sort of angle. Otherwise, we’re stuck with an injured a-hole. Id’ kick your a*&** if you sprayed me with champagne too.

  45. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

One last point: Aren’t we glad now that Lofton is on staff instead of Freddy B? I love FB, but he was NOT the coach to develop a star from a group of round 3-7 rookies. I can’t point to one Raider WR who Freddy coached up to true starter status. Curry is his lone success story, and a marginal one at that. FB would likely turn our youngsters into another Whitted, Jett, Porter, Morant, Francis or Madsen.

  46. RockyMtnRaider Says:

So we all know that by spraying the champagne, he got his a** kicked? Granted it was a stupid thing to do, but athletes and money is not a great combo. But until the true story comes out as to what really happened…shouldn’t we just give the guy a break? So he’s egotistical, so he’s a prima dona…he’s still a Raider…When the real story comes out, and if he was the big idiot all of you think he is, then talk about cutting him, etc. Until then…..give the guy a break

  52. Riverside Raiders Fan Says:

    Oakglenn…post 34 and 41:

Good post with just “common sense” applied. We’ll all Raider fans, just hoping for a big year and it appears that we have most of the pieces in place. Will manage with or without Javon, but it’s a distraction we surely didn’t need. Your money comment is right on. When you spend it foolishly, even if it is your money and even if it was easy to come by…there is no bottomless pit and eventually you find yourself broke.

  53. raiderpete Says:

With all the talent the Raiders signed this offseason, it was very likely that there was going to be problems with atleast one of the new players. I personally thought it was going to be someone else, I was wrong. I think the Raiders are going to receive a lot of negative publicity, but I think they made the right move signing as many people as they did. I hope Walker is okay, but I hope they cut him. He’s an idiot, and should be made an example of. If he truly was a team player, trying to set a new example a learn from the Darrent Williams incident, he wouldn’t of got himself in this situation. Again, cut him for the good of the team.

John Madsen does not belong on that list. He works hard and plays at his optimum level every opportunity he has. His hands are excellent and he has a knack, albeit slow by most standards, to get open and catch the ball wherever he is irrespective of what angle his body happens to be at that moment. He reminds me a little of Todd Christensen.

NO, I’LL AGREE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE…HE HAS NOTHING COMING.

  60. PhillyRaider Says:

OK, OK Jerry! I’ve cleaned it up my man! This post has been removed twice because (I guess) I used the N-word. So here it is sans offensive language.

As you guys know, during the offseason I don’t say much because like I said earlier, there’s just nothing really to say until camp opens. However, I just had to weigh-in on THIS one!!

Firstly, great perspective on this Jerry. I know you considered several ways to go before deciding on the ‘JRuss and Dmac learn from this’ approach… I agree with it totally.

Secondly, as a former Marine and all-around Super Party-er, I’ve gotten drunk and kicked “rump” in more places than I can remember, but “darnit” there comes a time when you just cease and desist with stupid “stuff” like this.

Javon, man, you need to get yourself a GOOD woman (any race, ethnicity, WG a F?!) and enjoy your career and money. I’m sure everyone from his grandma to his pee-wee coach has been tellin’ him just that for a few years now. Maybe, just maybe, NOW he’ll just go sit his “rump” down for a while and cool it.

Lastly, I have black friends. They’re principals and teachers and career long military people and all sorts. My friends however (black, white, or plaid) would NEVER think sprayin’ anything on anybody was all good. That is (N-Word) “stuff” and my friends are cool black folks NOT (N-Word)s!

Tru Love to all The Nation, I’ll still be behind the scenes ’til camp opens.

    From sfgate.com….

“We don’t believe this is a random act,” Las Vegas police Lt. Clint Nichols told the Chronicle. “They knew who he was and (Walker) presented a target.

“We did get a surveillance (video) of a vehicle and suspects that may have been involved. We know there were suspects, possibly two (but) we haven’t identified anyone yet.”

  64. Brian from LA Says:

    TO JERRY McDONALD,

Just wanted to say, that was great article you wrote, I really think you need to get your stuff published to reach more people out there. Your awesome man!! I want to read this article and the lessons you are portraying through Walker, to the youngsters out there. It’s really important, and you are straight forward about it. I love it. Thanks again for helping us Raider fans get closer to the team we love. You are a big part of it, just know you have a big fan out in LA that depends on you to get his info! Thanks amn

    - Brian From Los Angeles!! “(Get better Walker, you dumbass!!!)

  65. Raider Raul Says:

    Javon is a friggin dumbas!!
I can just see him in the nightclub standing on a couch disrespectfully spraying champagne on a crowd of strangers. Someone gets pissed, and doesn’t recognize him as someone famous, and clobbers him outside the club cuz he’s pised. I bet Javon was carrying AT LEAST $50-100K on him.
So right now, our #1 receiver is unproven, but has upside, Drew Carter.

  66. Rick The Hunter Says:

    Let’s get one thing clear,

Race had nothing to do with what took place in Las Vegas.
Anyone over the age of 10 should know that stupidity comes in all colors.
This was clearly the case of someone being stupid. Why on God’s green earth would someone go to a club drop 15 thousand dollars on champagne, take it and spray it on people. You gotta know that some people are gonna take it as being disrespected. (I know I would). So basically you’re putting yourself in a bad situation. Eventually someone’s gonna come after you for it and thats probably what happened. This is an example of todays generation of athletes not carrying the same morals and values like most of the athletes of the past. You never heard things like this with your Tim Browns, Jerry Rices, or Walter Paytons. I dont understand why todays players cant stay out of trouble, stay focused on their career, and enjoy a successful life. It seems that they dont learn until its too late and they’re laying on the ground unconsious assed out and pennyless. I hope Javon will learn that its just not nice to throw drinks on people. Heal up Mr. Walker. Go Raiders.
    YA KNOW?!

Anbody seen or heard from Madden Raider. I was told he was giving me all the credit during my time as an assistant to Al. Sadly that is not the truth, I just want you to tell Madden Raider that he is just all wrong. Good luck in 2008, I wish I were there, Raider fans your in good hands with Al.

  71. Brian Says:

You have to be kidding me! Sure I hope this “boy” is okay but, like you said, the two snapshots (him spraying champagne and laying in the hospital bed) should be blown up and wallpapered onto every single square inch of that locker room. Put them in his locker too. I don’t understand why these idiots put themselves into these situations over and over again. You really think he would have learned his lesson with the Darrent Williams “tragedy”. I have no doubts that whatever these two boys did prior to these crimes put them in the situation for them to happen. He’s been given yet another chance to compete in the NFL and he throws it all away by showing off at a night club in Vegas. He makes how much money? Why not throw a party at your mansion and invite as many friends and strippers and hookers that you want. Why do you have to mingle with the losers that go to these Vegas night clubs? You have a bullseye on your back and do stupid crap like this? I am so freaking mad I don’t feel sorry for him AT ALL. What is the difference between showering people with money or champagne? He and Pac Man are foolish little boys who don’t belong in this league of men. I certainly hope the Raiders put a clause in his contract about taking back the money if he wets his pants like he did. Grow up, set an example and play hard. You get paid to perform on the field not in a night club. Idiot! Idiot! Idiot! There is a term for people who spend more money than they make … let’s just say the first word starts with an “N” and the other word is “Rich”. $100,000 in joo-ray? Who are you trying to impress? All you do is make people jealous by flaunting it and spraying $15,000 in champagne. They want what you want. And I don’t want you anywhere near the franchise. Take a freaking hike and go play for the Cowboys. Follow in the footsteps of Michael Irvin and Pac Man Jones. Beat it!!!!

  72. KoolKell Says:

    Javon Walker 55 million
    Tommy Kelly 50 million
    Terdell Sands 17 million.

Questionable signings all, yet for us to succeed ALL have to be at the top of their games. Which we’ve never seen before.

  73. Anthos Says:

the only reason why we signed javon is we were desperate for a big time wr since we lost out on all the free agents we shouldve traded for chad johnson or larry fitzgerald or roy williams i think we should still try for roy williams i wanted us to draft him in the first place instead of the undertaker

  74. RaiderTay Says:

    PhillyRaider,

    WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???!!!

Check out the pics. There is a white guy standing next to him spraying champagne.

    http://photos.tmz.com/galleries/javon_walker_las_vegas#19969

I thought Raider fans were above the racist BS!! There are some white guys that hate to see a black guy with money and use a tragic situation like this to spew their own racist insecurities.

    Truly sad man…

  75. RaiderTay Says:

One thing I love about Raider games is that you see all types of people - white, Black, Latinos, Yuppies, thugs, bikers. And when the Raiders score they are all hugin and high fivin each other. Their love for the Raiders trumps all the other BS.

  76. KoolKell Says:

    Raider Tay,

Did you hear the commentary here in the weeks leading up to last year’s draft, disgusting.

  77. B-RAIDER Says:

If i was religious I’d be praying for Javon at the moment. I don’t know how many of you Walker-bashers have been to vegas, but there are some scuma$$ people up there wandering the strip looking for a good target. Shame on Javon for not hiring a body gaurd with all that cash, but I don’t blame him one bit for having a little fun in the desert and being a victum of a dirty city. Hope you get well J-Dub, see you at the game!

    I’m in!

  78. RaiderTay Says:

“Both men are likely to make the sojourn to Las Vegas at some point, if they haven’t already. Both have bundles of disposable income and the lure of the neon to someone in their early 20s can be as intoxicating as the champagne.”

Jerry I dont think it has anything to do with age. There are plenty of 70 year olds that cant stay out of vegas. My neighbor for example.

Vegas’s bread and butter are the seniors.

  81. HayesDaze#37 Says:

Tay — Good point about the pix of Walker spraying, along with another guy. Surprised nobody brought it up in earlier posts. Don’t matter what one looks like, how old one is, or even how smart a person might be — we all do stupid crap sometimes.

As a rated player, when “Vegas” would call and ask me if I wanted to come play, I had a few interesting experiences there — including getting lost in the presence of strangers while simply looking to continue the party. I’m hoping that’s all Walker did to put himself in this position.

I wanted the Walker signing to work, even though I’ve been screaming for WR help all off-season. Everything had to go right with his recovery for him to have the kind of success his salary-level will demand.

He has a right to the pursuit of happiness, and sometimes that pursuit includes acts of stupidity. Been there, done that. Hopefully, Javon matures in time to save his career — and help save the team that made him a rich(er) man.

  82. RaiderTay Says:

    Kell,

Im glad I missed it. This is crazy man this is 2008 and their is about to be a black president. Just when you have convinced yourself that things have changed some idiots reminds you that sh!t hasnt changed and their are plenty of racist f@cks out there!

Living in Vegas, the sports radio talk has been about 80% talking about Jovan. The stories are all speculation but none of it is any good. The driveway he was found is basically a small 8 unit apt. complex known to be a flop house for hookers and crack addicts rented by the pimps and dealers. And there is plenty of people here that prey on the rich flashing there wealth and not protecting themselves. Hopefully lesson learned, again, for Jovan

  85. HayesDaze#37 Says:

VegasRaider — Thanks for the ammended math on the cost of bubbly with surcharges…I know they do that a lot. They don’t do that to their regular high-rollers — stupid to lose a high $$ gambler by jacking-up his price on booze. But, immature party fools with loads of cash don’t receive the same courtesy.

    ———

We don’t even know how long Javon was unconscious, and I worry about much more than his orbital socket. What of his legs and feet? Was his brain damaged? Did he separate anything falling or defending himself? He won’t even know these things for awhile, he’s so beat up. Then, if all’s good with those things, what will be his emotional state months from now?

Walker is lucky to be alive, and he needs to re-think his priorities.

The Raiders should re-inquire about acquiring Boldin or Roy Williams, but they’re probably not attainable due to many factors. If anyone can find a way to do it, Al can.

  86. Darkhorse Says:

I feel like I am going to the best steak house and ordering the chicken because I can’t really afford to be there. But 15 bottles of Dom P is definately going to run you around 15K with tips and all that stuff. All anyone talks about on the sports radio out here is that the time-line of events doesn’t add up, there is a report that says he was forced into a car at the bellagio…

  88. Rick The Hunter Says:

I dont know what’s worse, The stupidity displayed by Javon Walker, or the racism being displayed from the “boys” in this blog.
Brian,, we know what word you’re really trying to say by putting the word boy in quotes. Are you that lame and narrow minded?
Look if you wanna be a bigot fine, thats cool. Here’s what you can do, turn in your “black” Raiders jersey, take your “N” words and go be a Chargers fan. We Raider fans might be known for being wild and crazy, but we’re not known for being racist. So if you wanna be a childish jackass then you should leave and “N”ever come back. Racism is not something Real Men spew out, that’s what “boys” do.

  89. Bob Marley Says:

    Hayes…

Like someone said before, Walker is supposed to be released fom the Hospital today, maybe he´s out already and there was no mention of surgery, it seems like he´s gonna be fine.

  90. vegas raider Says:

He will probably be released in the middle of the night, to be as incospicous as possible. Heard today that he was with Floyd Mayweather at the club. Should have stayed with Floyd, he rolls about 20 deep everywhere he goes.

  91. HayesDaze#37 Says:

Sure hope he’s going to be fine, but it’s likely to take a long, long time to heal — especially if he risks more permanent injury to that eye with every future hit.

Sounds like he may have been “kidnapped,” if he was ushered into a car and then dumped later. That would imply that he was just an unwitting victim who entrusted the wrong people…much different than hanging out in a crack-house parking lot. More reason to wait for whatever “facts” we’ll get in a few days.

Even when Walker was as “healthy” as he was when we signed him, I wanted (and still want) to find another proven WR who could be a #1 for us. Can one of our own guys take it now? Would be nice. But to get a talent like Boldin or Roy Williams would instantly make this unit a top-flight corps — no matter how Javon recovers from his old, and new, injuries.

  92. Toozfan Says:

Glad the Javon’s about to be released, makes me hopeful he’s not too jacked up.
What i want to know is, where was ANYONE who he was hanging out with that night, i really doubt he was alone, makes me think he was set up. Vegas at sunrise on a Monday is a freakin’ ghost town, not surprised this happened in the light of day.
I just think there are way too many ?’s which need to be answered.

According to message boards, the only source less reliable than those ne’erdowell bloggers, Walker thought he could outdo Mayweather, who reportedly went through 50 bottles of Cristal. As the story goes, somebody (or bodies) from Mayweather’s group of friends ran into Walker later that evening morning and gave him the old “keep your ugly goldbrickin’ ass out our desert community” speech. I can safely say that Mayweather himself was not personally responsible for any assault seeing as how he’s yet to surface at any area hospitals with a broken hand.

  115. Floyd's Boyz Says:

the incident started with a champagne bidding war between Walker and Floyd Mayweather, and that a member of Mayweather’s entourage later stumbled upon Walker and proceeded to beat him into a pulp.

Regardless, strong similarities exist between Walker’s most recent incident and the circumstances that preceded the shooting death of Darrent Williams. Here’s a quote from an August 11, 2007 AP item regarding an interview of Walker aired by HBO’s Real Sports: “[A]nother Broncos receiver, Brandon Marshall, and his cousin were partying with Williams’ group that night and began spraying champagne around, ’some of which hit a club patron and his friend, who confronted Williams and his entourage.’ Those men flashed gang signs and were escorted out of the club, said members of a rap group from Williams’ hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, who were with him that night.”

Apart from the question of whether the more recent champagne spraying and the subsequent cold-cocking are in any way related, we’d like to think that Walker would have sworn off champagne spraying given its role in the chain of events that resulted in Darrent Williams dying in Javon Walker’s arms.

When Walker explained to Andrea Kremer of Real Sports the reason for keeping his bloody shirt from that night, Walker said, “It’s just something that reminds me every day of what could happen and this is what happened to my friend.”

Maybe it takes a second bloody shirt to help Walker realize that nothing good ever comes from spraying champagne (or any other beverage) onto a group of people that might not necessarily want to be sprayed with it.

Walker ordered 5 bottles of Vodka, so the Floyd orders 10 bottles of vodka trying to one-up him. Walker then orders another 5 bottles for his entourage. Both groups were pretty hammered and words were exchanged. When Walker leaves to go back to their hotel, they are followed by some chick. Walker jumps out of the cab at the traffic light and gets in with the chick following behind. That was the last they saw of Walker. Another vehicle was following behind the chick and ran the chick off the road and beat the heck out of Walker. Reports haven’t been released that the Floyd was involved, so we’ll see what transpires. As you know, the Floyd lives in Vegas and it’s his town. We beat the heck out of [Walker] and stole his watch and wallet, making it look like a robbery. We left him in some alley. They say Walker may never play again as his face sustained multiple fractures.“

Hi AI. Like your name today. And, I’m always maddening, so it fits.

The latent racism is unreal here.

Walker was drinking with his friends, he was spraying champaign on his friends. It was a private club. Mayweather’s friends, assuming that’s who they were, are cool with Javon, too. They were there with him. This was a private function. “Making it rain” is just stupid bulls’t kids do today. I saw a white dude do it in Rosarito. And no, MaddeningMadden, not in the R. Kelly way. In the Javon Walker way. He sprayed a bottle all over everyone at a bar. Nobody did anything. Everyone laughed it off. It’s Rosarito. Heck with it. Then again, fighting is a felony in Mexico and your bail is whatever’s in your freaking wallet, so maybe that’s why cooler heads prevailed, too. Cool and wet heads…

Javon got robbed outside of the place. Nobody at the club got him. How we got to that conclusion is beyond me. But that’s where the closeted racism comes in. We tend to put these bridges into stories about black athletes. Truth is, he just got robbed by some cats waiting outside, knowing there was money in there.

Why do robbers target black athletes? Well, this blog is a perfect example. They know sports fans will blame the athlete if he’s black. It gives the robbers an added advantage. Whatever Sean Taylor did to provoke those guys to invade his home and blast him, I guarantee you, if Peyton Manning had provoked someone in the same way, they would not have handled it that way. They killed Taylor because they assumed they’d get away with it. They thought wrong, as most of the nation mourned his death and wanted justice. But not everyone. There was certainly a lot of people in America that wanted to chalk it up as typical thug on thug violence, and to heck with justice. Far as they were concerned, justice had already been served.

You’d think in the Raider Nation you’d get a more racially sensitive school of thought, considering the diverse fan base. No such luck. As AI said a while back, we may all be Raider bros in the stadium parking lot, but as soon as we leave the lot, the standard American racial lines take effect.

Bottom line: If Javon’s white, he’s a victim. Period. Because he’s black, his victim status is up for debate. Thank God at least the Vegas PD are following the law and looking for the robbers.

  172. HayesDaze#37 Says:

K-Rock — I think you’re confusing Thug Life with Pimp Life. This “pimp” culture will go down as its own unique lifestyle, one which psychologists will be digging through for ages. Today’s society doesn’t think of a pimp in the same terms as yesterday’s — it’s just a slang term now, thrown out as a compliment just as much as a slur.

When a pimp wannabe runs into real-life thugs, Javon Walker gets his a$$ kicked.

What is the deal about ordering more bottles of vodka or champagne than another guy in a club? Why is the an offense to someone?

    I don’t understand “thug life”

    …..

K Rock, you don’t understand mainstream American culture, either. You know you see young white people acting outlandish and even at times violent, in ways you didn’t act when you were younger. Instead of dealing with that, it’s easier to just say, “blacks are worse”. That’s all you’re really saying with the statement that you don’t “understand thug life”.

  177. K-Rock Says:

Celtics up by 30. No that’s not a typo.

81 to 53 now. Lakers cut the lead to 28…

  178. HayesDaze#37 Says:

And MR — If you really are a fan, a real fan (whether or not you go to games), you would find a way to stop feeding the racism thread in here. Even when the trolls aren’t active, you throw it in just for flavor sometimes. This here pot don’t need it in the recipe.

  179. MR Says:

K Rock, you understand the WW II generation and some of the baby boomer generation. Anything more current, and you’re in a fog. No matter what the race. But you love your country so you sympathize with the mainstream. That leaves blacks as fair game for you.

  180. SouthTexasRaider Says:

hey why cant i see everyones post?

    what did I do?

  181. MR Says:

You Laker fans are quiet. Think Boston’s up by 60 now.

  182. K-Rock Says:

    MR…

    Are thugs black?

I don’t think so. Thug life and gang culture crosses all racial barriers.

It is the thug life I don’t understand.

Making it rain, spraying champagne, a bidding war over champagne and FIGHTING over it are all part of this “thug life” mentality.

  183. Eyepatch Says:

I wonder what race assaulted Walker, I hope its not blacks for MR’s sake.

  184. MR Says:

Saint Kaufman, you can log on. I told you, I’m not going to cut on you. I called a sweep. I was wrong. Called it 4-1. I was wrong. You own my ass. The Lakers put up more of a fight than I thought they would, that’s for sure. At least up until tonight.

  185. MR Says:

Probably blacks, Eyepatch. But the reason they did it is because they know fans will blame him, that puts less pressure on the police to make an arrest. That gives the robbers an advantage. Anything else, Patch?

  186. Eyepatch Says:

Excuses won’t save you this time MR.

  187. MR Says:

K Rock, the only person you’re fooling in here, when you say you aren’t talking about black people when describing people as “thugs”, is yourself.

  188. Ron Wolf Says:

Post 173>Please take it to your own blog as you told others, try to keep it short like I did when I was a Raider assistant to Al.

    MR

Nobody is going to read that novel. Start your own blog. We wouldn’t even read a blog by Jerry that was that long, and he’s educated, and knows how to write. So where does that leave you?

  189. MR Says:

    Dave me from what, Eyepatch?

  190. K-Rock Says:

    By the way MR…

My best friend in this world is black. We were roomies in college and his family called me their adopted white son.

I have been to parties were I was the only white guy in the place. Played dominoes, ate good food, and embarrassed myself on the dancefloor. There was no thug life stuff going on there. However, Tony has declined to take me certain places because he says I would not be accepted the same way as his family did. He did not like “thugs” either.

I have been to church and been the only white guy in the building and was asked to sit on the stage with the pastor and read scripture.

Tony and Ken were groomsman at my wedding and both are black.

It is not black people I don’t like or understand, it is “thugs”.

  191. MR Says:

Ron Wolf, the difference is you know you read my posts, no matter how long. You guys read every sentence of mine. You have to. You’re drawn to my posts like moths to a light, no matter how much you hate them.

I didn’t read a word of ???’s posts. Boring. I could tell from the first sentence.

    By the way MR…

My best friend in this world is black.

    ……….

LOL. I knew somebody would come with this…

  193. Eyepatch Says:

    Dave you from yourdelf MR.

  194. HayesDaze#37 Says:

Bad guys look for victims. It’s why they’re called bad guys. They single out black guys because they already know the victim will be blamed for his own mugging? A preposterous assertion, made just to stir the pot once again.

Statements like that don’t bring the latent racists out, it just adds fuel to those that don’t care if they hide it or not. They also show a certain amount of racist thought coming from the author.

I would say “kettle black,” but then I’d be colored a racist. Multi-puns intended.

  195. Ron Wolf Says:

Madden Raider> please take your own advice and keep it short and sweet like a Ken Stabler out to Biletnikoff.
Al always knew Stabler would be great.

Are you directing long winded diatribes to me now, after I just told you I won’t read them? My god, you’re something else.

  196. Eyepatch Says:

I log on and there you are MR, to be insulted like the looser that you are.

  197. MR Says:

K Rock, your black friend is supposed to be just that, a friend. You talk about him like he’s your dog.

  198. MR Says:

Ron Wolf, I can make my comments a mile long. I can write. Every stroke of my keyboard is interesting, and you will read every single word. That’s the difference between my long posts and your long winded, dead ass boring diatribes.

  199. K-Rock Says:

    MR…

How did I talk about him like a dog?

    Again, listen, pay attention:

    YOU ARE BORING. YOU
