Chargers mastery of Raiders is mostly LT
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, July 18th, 2008 at 8:16 pm in Oakland Raiders.
In the days leading up to the first day of training camp, I’ll review the state of the rest of the AFC West and how they match up with the Raiders, as well as all Raiders position groups heading into the first practice on July 24. Today’s entry takes a look at the San Diego Chargers.
There are plenty of reasons why the Raiders have taken it on the chin against the San Diego Chargers for the last five years, but a lot of it has to do with LaDainian Tomlinson.
As much as Raider fans revile the likes of Marty Schottenheimer and Mike Shanahan when it comes to sticking it to Al Davis, both are incapable of inflicting the kind of on-field damage Tomlinson has, particularly over the last five years.
Tomlinson’s career yardage against the Raiders is up to 1,709 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns in 14 games, and that doesn’t include what he has done receiving and with the occasional halfback option pass.
Over the last five years, when the Raiders have been at their worst, Tomlinson’s stats are even better _ he has averaged 138.5 yards rushing against the Raiders in those 10 games. Schottenheimer tried to make the case that Tomlinson is the best back in NFL history, better than even Jim Brown.
It’s a subjective debate, but face it, if Tomlinson got to play his entire career against the Raiders, there would be no debate.
Tomlinson put the Lane Kiffin Raiders through the shredder in their first meeting last season, carrying 24 times for 198 yards and all four touchdowns in a 28-14 win by the Chargers.
He took a lesser role in the season finale with San Diego already in the playoffs, carrying 16 times for 56 yards in a 30-17 win.
So the Raiders didn’t make a lot of progress in terms of dealing with their biggest nemesis last year, but the season wasn’t without hope in that regard.
Pretty much indestructable throughout his career, Tomlinson was injured in San Diego’s 28-24 playoff win over Indianapolis, tried to play against New England and was essentially a non-factor in a 21-12 loss.
The word in San Diego is that Tomlinson is fine. Coach Norv Turner will probably be careful with him through training camp and sit him out during the preseason, but a running back has only so many miles. Could Tomlinson’s postseason be just the start of a decline?
When the Raiders gave Tommy Kelly $18.125 in guaranteed money to play the “three-technique,” it was done at least in part with Tomlinson in mind. When the Raiders signed New York Giants safety Gibril Wilson to be a physical defender in the box, it was done at least in part with Tomlinson in mind.
The Raiders need those two men to play as advertised, as well as a huge improvement from nose tackle Terdell Sands. They need Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard to be better at plugging gaps and making tackles.
And it wouldn’t hurt if Tomlinson is starting to run out of gas after 2,365 carries in seven years.
Chargers review
San Diego was 11-5 in the AFC West, 2-0 vs. the Raiders. Ranked seventh in rushing, 20th in total offense, 14th in total defense, 16th in rushing defense.
What’s new
Not much. The Chargers went into the season essentially with a pat hand, seldom a good idea. Derek Smith, a sure-tackling but slow footed linebacker, was their biggest free agent aquisition. Smith wasn’t good enough to play for the 49ers. Cornerback Antoine Cason, a first-round pick, is probably the only draft pick who will make an immediate impact.
What’s to like
Philip Rivers is the guy everyone in the NFL hates except the players on his own team. There were those who questioned whether Tomlinson could have played through his knee injury. Rivers had surgery and still played _ and played with grit and heart.
Rivers is mouthy on the sideline and doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he is an extremely accurate thrower and a leader in the Rich Gannon mold.
Tight end Antonio Gates remains a matchup problem for every opponent, and Norv Turner is good at utilizing him. Left tackle Marcus McNeil has two Pro Bowl appearances in two years, even if Year 2 may have been as impressive as Year 1.
There is no better pass rushing duo in a 3-4 defense than Shawne Merriman and Shawn Phillips, whether Merriman is chemically enhanced or not. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie was a star the moment he picked off Peyton Manning three times on Monday night.
What’s not
Michael Turner, the insurance policy for Tomlinson, was lost to Atlanta in free agency. Even if he never becomes a great lead back, he was an excellent reserve. The play of Jamal Williams has slipped. He is the anchor for what has been a San Diego defense that has been among the toughest to run on in the NFL.
Last season, the Chargers gave up 1,712 yards rushing and 4.1 yards per carry, including an NFL-record 296 yards by rookie Adrian Peterson. In the season finale, Dominic Rhodes ran for 122 yards against the Chargers _ and the Raiders almost never make any headway with the run against San Diego.
The Chargers rotate their inside linebackers just about every year, and the positions seem to slip each year.
While Turner got San Diego farther in the playoffs than Schottenheimer, the stats indicate the once talent-laden Chargers have come back to the pack.

Jerry - You’ve said it (in not so direct words), I’ve said it - we all have said it: The Dolts are DE-flating.
Last year, although we lost that final game we played them really hard. That was a very good indicator of where our squad is going and put the Chargers on notice.
They couldn’t stop JR and you could tell. He was just too darn talented. We actually ran the ball and ran it well (on both KC, in Arrowhead, and vs SD). You saw the tables turning Jerry. I know you did. Things were happening that haven’t happened here in a very long time. Now only if we can keep the momentum.

July 18th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
No mention of the loss of Lorenzo Neal?? Don’t underestimate his role in LT’s performance. Good riddance to both him and Turner.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Don’t forget Terrapin after Jruss’ first play against the Donks all the momentum went with US! They won’t be able to handle JRuss on Sept 8. AFC WEST is ripe for the taking.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
The momentum hasn’t even started! wait until they see what we do to the Broncos opening day. I’m telling you by mid season our upcoming oppponents will be racking their brains trying to find a way to stop the running game. Putting nine in the box even, that’s whenRussell will start to see one on one’s all over the place with guy’s running wideopen.
Great defense have a hard time stopping great offenses when they they are rolling. An average defense is hopeless. If Kiffin is what I think he is our offense should resemble USC’s when Leinert was there in explosiveness within the next 2 years.
You’ll see flashes of that this year and it will probably take the entire year for the timing to really get down but ‘09 will be filled with anticipation of the Raiders taking over the AFC.

The Chargers are deflating for a number of reasons; but the one of those reasons in particular is their arrogance. They believe that have the best squad in the entire League and they let it go to their heads. So they don’t look to improve much at all because they think they’ve got it made with the talent they already have. You don’t see the Patriots doing such - they try to improve Every year.
Compare the last two drafts (Chargers vs Raiders)and tell me the tables don’t look like they’re turning:

Damn BHP …boy will that be a pretty sight on Opening Night of all nights for the Raiders to say HELLO! to the rest of the League. Thats the stuff dreams are made of.
OOHH yes SaintKaufman - Losing a vet like L.Neal will hurt them. And I don’t believe they’ve adequately replaced him. Just checked their roster and their FBs now are: Mike Tolbert, Andrew Pinnock (hybrid rb-fb) and Wade Betschart (hybrid te-fb). Lorenzo was a pro-bowl FB. Who are these busters? I guess we’ll soon find out won’t we.
They believe they have adequately replaced Turner with Jacob Hester. I think Hester could be a solid effort runner - a good backup. But he’s not going to light you up (like a MB/DMC backup could …they’re backups for now) although he could cause some hurt.

July 18th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
huh…now that you look at it - and its still VERY early - but looking back at that 2007 draft …its looking like a very solid draft. We got 5 players so far that, at this point, seem to be very good: Russell, Miller, Richardson, Bush, and O’Neal. Boy if Henderson and Higgins come around that may turn out to be a draft for the ages.
For the 2008 draft, I’m just looking for 2 players: McFadden and Branch. If they produce this draft would be solid too. The WRs I’m looking at as projects that aren’t quite ready but we’ll see (WR has historically been the riskiest position to draft).

Terrapin, Chile and all the rest, there was a time back in the day when the Raiders ruled Monday Night Football. There is a saying the history has a tendency to repeat itself.
This is our time, The Raider Review of sorts and a reminder to all just what it was like. How the Silver and Black in all it’s glory would bring out stars (Russell, McFadden, Bush, Aso, Burgess Hall) and impose their will on the opponent.
It’s a day we all love to revisit, but this will be the dawning of a new day. The future stars and lords of the field. They will introduce themselves to the worlsd that night and the world will embrace them. The world loves greatness the stirs the imagination. And we will have that on display.
The night ws long and arduous, our travails were numerous and our tormentors were a great crowd. But the sun is rising on the Raider Nation once again and it’s a beautiful day.
Adios bros. and take pride “It’s Our Time”

July 18th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Right now, would you rather have J Walker or J Porter?
Why would Porter wait until now to get a surgery that will keep him out for the entire preseason on a new team? Just goes back to his selfish self. I never liked the arrogant ass.
Even if Walker got rolled, he still showed up in Oakland 2 days after getting his eye socket broke and possibly his jaw. Walker may be dumb for doing what he did in Vegas, but I have to admire his heart.
July 18th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
peace ….
July 18th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Ryan:
Hopefully Walker has some pride left and will prove he is worth what we hope he is. and yes I would rather have him than Porter. When Porter was a rook I really thought he would be the future but I Guess It was just Rice and Brown being on the field that made him look good! He is selfish and has no work ethic. I cannot respect anyone that has no work ethic much less cheer for him to take our beloved team to the bext level
July 18th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Plus there is nothing like a good old fashioned azz whooping to humble a person and make them snap back to reality. That beating could be the best thing that happened to him and the Raiders. Now The young players will think twice before doing something stupid and they will rally behind him because he is thier team mate now! The Broncos are going down hard! I can’t wait

I’m out after this one thought: I distinctly remember that last game and what my impression were as I watched our “gift” becoming unwrapped. As I sat there and examined JR’s performance and the Chargers defenders reactions, I said silently within myself (you know that voice of insight/reason) - I said “they can’t stop him, they can’t stop him”.
Not only did I that dawn in me, but it also finally dawned on me what Kiffin was trying to tell us. Do you all remember what Kiffin said bout us not having enough talent to match JRs talents? Well, as I watched that game I vividly understood exactly what Kiffin was trying to convey. Russell is just So talented and we simply did not have the talent in personnel to match his. So in comes DMC, MB and more are coming…
July 18th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Yeah but Hamlin got hit with a stop sign!
You beat me against a parking meter!
Not cool but I forgive you
July 18th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Yes Terp it sounded wierd at the time but Kiff nailed it! With this new backfield to throw off the opposing defense, damn JR wild throw anywhere he wants> just watch Walker with his two eyepatches(one on the helmet and one on his eye) just catch and run! and don’t get me started on Carter

Kiffin was right about not having enough talent. The Raiders did a good job at upgrading the roster. The trenches are still at best average, but the Raiders added 3 play makers: hall, dmc, and javon. Kelly and Kwame both will marginally improve the line through replacing aging ineffective players.
July 18th, 2008 at 11:57 pm
The o line should be improved. after reconsidering, the line has depth: morris can play c&g, wade is about as good as a back up center there is, McQuistain can play both g & t, and cornell green or henderson are both solid back ups. that is about as deep and versatile as it comes in the nfl. the qaulity of the starters is a bit suspect, but there should not be much of a drop of if we loose a couple of starters to injury. that unit should be road grading all year strong.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:08 am
The passing game should be improved. Walker, Carter, and MCFADDEN bring burst and explosion, and are a considerable upgrade over Porter, Tim Dwight, and Lamont Jordan. The wild card is Ron Curry. His dedication to the weight room should pay dividends this season. He has always been good in the slot, but now he should develop into a stellar no. 2. Zach miller might end up being JR’s go to guy. He will be a good te for the forseeable future.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:37 am
Terripan we have to remember that JR played well against the chargers 2nd team defense. Jamal Williams is getting older, but he is still one of the better two gap monsters in the league. Castillo, Igor and the rest of the line are every bit as good as any other d line in the 3-4. Merriman, and Phillips bring heat and a punch from the outside. Cromartie is probably the most dangerous cb in the league. The chargers still have a strong d. Their offense will run the ball well without Lt. The Raiders will have to make more than a few big plays to beat the colts, and Jr can’t turn the ball over. it will be interesting, but i feel the chargers still have a slight edge over the Raiders because of how physical they are. This charger team has been able to go and punch the Colts in the mouth, they will have know respect for the Raiders until, they get the hell slapped out of them: twice. The Raiders should sweep the cheifs and the donkeys because those teams not physical and they simply do not have talent to compete this season.

Jerry seriously Rivers in the Rich Gannon mode? i dunno about that if he is a leader in the Gannon mode then he need to look at him a little harder and keep his sideline antics and his big mouth in check! I dont recall our beloved Gannon on the side line mouthing off, and if he was he was getting on his teammates to stay focused and do the right things on the field, and thats opposite of big mouth rivers but uts all good though because i have a solution for him, to get a fat knuckle sandwich when we line up and punch them all in the mouth
July 19th, 2008 at 5:22 am
and j russ will get his when we play the chargers last year he was like 23-31 224 yds and 1td i dont think he threw an int you can rest assured he will have 2 more tds and more yds now that hes in early and holding on to the playbook
July 19th, 2008 at 6:27 am
Wow I just got this and this is the 75 post (if i finish in time LOL)
Lorenzo Niel is the biggest loss the LDT’s got. You just can’t replace a guy like that over night.
An this article is absolutely correct. LDT is the only reason they’ve had their way with us.
sorry dolt fans, I will never call a guy named LaDamien Tomlinson LT, sorry it just doesn’t jive!!! Why not call him DT, or LD?!?!?! WHY because he’s LDT that’s why…
You unimaginative usurpers! Can’t even honor the best thing you guys have had since the San Diego Chicken coz… what else you guy got?!?!
And comparing rivers to Gannon! Jerry are you HIGH??? Rivers is a hot head imbecile, Gannon was all business. Say it ain’t so dude say it ain’t so!!!
The dominance of the Chargers in the last 5 years is over… OVER!!! we’re splitting this year and maybe even take both.
LDT is on the way OUT and even if he’s not? we’ll handle him & make him our BIT*H
The Raider Nation baby… Can you FEEL IT!!!!!

Too bad about Porter tearing his hambone. Same injury permanently robbed me of some speed in my 20’s. Surgical and rehab techniques are far superior these days though. Hopefully he can bounce back. I’ve always liked the Jags.
As for the Dolts; I hate to say it, but don’t count them out yet. Their defense is still tough, and I’ll believe Thomlinson is finished when I see the evidence on the field. Rivers is a decent QB (Man, it hurt to say that), but I would love to see someone drop the mouthpiece. Where’s a jerk like Romanowski when you need him, eh?
With the Donks and Chefs slipping, I see 2nd. in the west, with an outside shot at a wildcard. It’ll be tough though. Depends how we start. 3-1 out of the gate would give JR confidence and get momentum going. Here’s hoping.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:11 am
While it’s true that LT has been the Raiders’ biggest problem in SD, a close second has been Oakland’s inability to block SD’s front seven. Does anyone believe that Kwame Harris can stop Shawn Merriman? Can any of the Raiders’ centers block Jamal Williams? Who is going to neutralize Castillo and Olshansky? The bottom line: Will Russell and McFadden have the room to work against San Diego?

same story for 5 years now from you pretenders. “tables are turning” bla bla bla……sorry raiders, it’s fun watching you guys squirm for 5 straight years now. The Chargers own you and will continue to own you. And please save it, I don’t want to hear about how you guys won the big game in the 20th century. Or about all your hall of famers. Guess what? Our hall of famers are on the field, and I get to live it now. And in 28 years I wont be talking about how back in 2007 bla bla bla like you guys all do. Comedy.
July 19th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Really!?! Who wrote this article. Hmmm, maybe a Raider’s columnist which means that he probably has an 8th grade education. “The Chargers have come back to the pack”??? Come back down from your slanted, egotistical vantage and realize that the AFC West is weak, Raiders included, and although the Chargers are a year older, with the core of young talent they have, that is a good thing. The Chargers will still dominate the Raiders and do so with simply a more talented team!!!
July 19th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Just got my tickets from UPS…….Can’t wait until the 8th!
Go Raiders

Looks like J. Porter has found a way out of practice again.
July 19th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Rebel:
JWalker will have a better year than Porter.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
An MRI should have told Porter of the tear in the hamstring. Another case of NFL botched medical care. Like Jerivious getting a staph infection after a routine procedure on his knee. Manning getting a bursa infection like Marvin Harrison. The list goes on and on.

la Raider
Good knowledge!
July 19th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
I saw the fear in Norms eyes last year but it was nothing like the fear I saw in scatashans eyes both games. He knows his gig is up. All I saw in in herms eyes was a blank slate.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Most of the teams filmed by the NFL during training camp have had a bad year. The Ravens sucked after the Super Bowl and the Chiefs were awful last year. Good Luck to the Cowgirls!

LORENZO NEAL
Did the chargers really lose Lorenzo Neal? I know they released him, but his and the chargers website still show him as a charger.
I think they’re both planning on him resigning, so it may be too soon to gloat over that. Losing him would definitely affect LT.
Anyone know the true situation?
July 19th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Not to mention Cutler with type 1 diabetes for a year before the doctors properly diagnosed it.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Did you guys finnaly get MR out of the blog?
July 19th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Not much Davis bashing either, Dakota must have decided to leave too.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
In 2007 they gave Neal a $5.1 million extention making him the highest paid FB in the NFL. Norv released him in Feb. saying he didn’t fit the new offense. Good job Norv. Keep up the good work. lol
July 19th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Neal is best known as an exceptional blocking fullback, and has lead blocked for 1000 yard rushers in 11 straight seasons (Adrian Murrell in 1997, Warrick Dunn in 1998, Eddie George in 1999-2000, Corey Dillon from 2001-2002, and LaDainian Tomlinson from 2003 to 2007.) Wikipedia
He would be a good p/u
July 19th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
fla pete: what the hell… i’m still off the list. i thought someone wrote earlier i was most bi-polar? did we get rid of that category???
July 19th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Scratch picking up Neal. I didn’t realize he was going to be 38 yrs. old. Wheels about to come off.
July 19th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Why am I not this list? I have at least upset 7 of u… Damn I need to work on my material!
July 19th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I’m not even on the list for having one of the longest names. lol Or posting with Dakota about the Laker’s or the future move of the Raiders back to L.A. Just kidding, trying to start up sh*t.
July 19th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Ahh hell I just bought my season tickets again. I really wanted to boycot one more season, but I’m feeling the itch.
July 19th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
This Blog is a joke, after 4 wins last year 6 would be a great year for the haters. as for the Chargers coming back to the pack don’t count on it. Their offense is more diverse with Chris Chambers, Vincent Jackson, Darren Sproles, and Antonio Gates. you can’t key on L.T anymore. And on Defense they have arguably the best linebacking corp in football with Merriman, Phillips, Stephen Cooper and a name you hater fans will be hearing a lot from is ILB Anthony Waters. Two shutdown corners in Cromartie, and Jammer, and above average safties in Weddle and Hart and two rookie first round picks at nickle and dime packages. Yeah all pro Jamal Williams is getting older but he has a lot of support on both sides in Castillo and Igor. plus when you have a offense line like the haters you dont need much. The only legitimate group on the haters is their secondary but if you can’t stop the run those safties have to come up. Case closed. and all you have to do on the other side of the ball is stop the run and force Russell to be you which I would take my chances against a virtual rookie any day. So cancel out Mc Fadden. Hard to believe this talk is coming from fans of a team that has the worse record in all of football in the last ten years. Funny…

Well, here goes, on the issues of mention. JaMarcus…he’ll be his own man, with a ‘head on his shoulders’. I believe he’s a great talent, and even though Kiffin, made a mistake last year, of not ‘picking Culpepper’ as the starter of McCown, I do believe hes’ been good for Russell, that’ll bring dividends sooner than later, for the RAIDERS. As for the division, the RAIDERS have as good a chance as ‘taking it’ as anyone. The concensious, seems to be that the players are re-establishing attitude, in part from Coach Gables work with the O-Line and in part with the ‘new coverage men–FS, DBs’, that the talent exists across the board to become, once again, the established power there, dispite the namesayers(sp) to the contrary. The only real question being the DL…lets’ see if the ‘fringe guys’ they’ve brought over, with opportunities to make a difference with Da RAIDERS, will spark play and attitude that’ll inspire the others.
For the offense…’WR Walker’, hmmmm, time-will-tell/jury out…where’s the ‘guys head’, he’s done nothing yet!!! I like Carter, I like HIGGINS(resurgence of potential and off season work and focus, AND, I like this WATKINS pick-up) whom is a ‘Branch Potential…either he or Higgins’!!
Then guys…as much as we liked Gruden, and he did draft Porter, he held the reigns too tight…look what Callahan did by ‘lightening up’ in his 1st year, and PORTER started being a ‘talent’…I don’t blame the guy for frustrations. As he has said, when hes’ had coaches that have ‘just coached with focus’, and ‘treated them like athletes and men’ with respect, none of the coaches have had a problem, nor he, and Gannon was on his side.
I mean, come on, where’d SHELLs’ brain go, and Walsh, unfortunately didn’t/doesn’t have a clue, and had no business being back in the NFL, nor did coach Shell(a real shell of the coach he had been before), so not PORTER’ll show his potential, if he’s healthy.
July 19th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
I do respect the raiduh fans. I do. really. I mean, any group of fans with this much arrogance and near-sightedness after one of the worst multi-year runs in NFL history - gotta at least respect the level of blinders you guys have…
Yeah, no sheit you will be improved this year - can you possibly get any worse?
The only reasons the Chargers will fail miserably this year, after 100 posts that i can gather, are that Michael Turner is gone, Jamal was hurt a bit, and Lorenzo Neal is history.
Newsflash oh erudite ones - we released Neal (with 10s of million under the salary cap) on purpose! He was getting injured, his play was declining, and Pinnock was doing quite well. Pinnock he even began starting over Neal later in the season.
MT was great…when he played. Which was never. Or in blowout time. Hester will replace him juuuuust fine.
Jamal is a legit concern. However, we have the best front 7 in football, and our secondary is DRAMATICALLY improved. we’ll be OK with Jamal only playing half the downs.
Not to mention everyone healthy, our myriad of young guys with another year of experience, Cro starting every game (not just half the season - did you see him shut Moss down cold in the playoffs?)…the list goes on.
Have a nice time picking up the scraps of the AFC west this season..again. Maybe you’ll get within single digits of us for once in one of our two head to heads…
July 19th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Shawn Lt has over 2300 carries and atleast 400 catches. He has too much mileage on him. Hester was not even a playmaker in college, and who is marcus thomas?
Vincent Jackson is a big slow WR. Gates is the best TE.
As Jerry mentioned, jamal williams is aging, and with him goes the Charger run defense. The chargers window may already be closed depending on LT. The defense is talented, but they are all coming up for big contracts. The chargers will loose either Igor or Castillo, and most likely will be priced out of Shaun Phillips.
The Chargers could have won a Super bowl by now, but they were stupid, and let Drew Brees walk: that is why that weak franchise will never win a super bowl.
July 19th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
First of all L.T. the best conditioned athlete in the NFL has 5 good years left and he’ll prove it aganist the haters this year and Vinceent Jackson is far from slow he’s a 4.3 40 WR in a tight end body, remember he’s the same guy that beat you guys two years ago when he spun the ball after catching the first down to ice the game. and it’s wishfull thinking on all hater fans wish list that the Chargers can’t sign the most talented crop of players in the NFL.I also would take Phillip Rivers over any quarterback the haters have. Drew Brees was ok but I would take Rivers over him today. Top 5 quarterback in the NFL today
July 19th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
LT may have some mileage, but lets take a look at Emmitt Smith’s stats, which are very similar to LT’s at this point in their respective careers, and remember how bad that turned out. Emmitt went on to average about 250 Att/Yr with a 4.0 Y/G avg over the next 5 yrs. Hmmmm, all time rushing leader. Not too bad!
I am worried about Jamal, especially in the 4th qrtr, but he’s still a top NT in the league.
Hester will be a great fill in for L Neal and Michael Turner! He should be fun to watch and is a hard nose baller that adds a new dynamic to their already potent offense.
Get rid of Al Davis and you may actually be in contention one of these years. By the way, will Kiffin even make it through training camp?
July 20th, 2008 at 3:28 am
post 89 Andrews mom:
I also saw that same fear in Norvel, ShannyRAT also knows his reign over us is dwindling. And Herm…. hahahaha We own Herm. Ih he may get lucky this year but we’re taking them out twice this year. And ol Herm will be singing his JET’s era song again
“Oh shucks, maybe one of these day’s we’ll learn how to beat those guys”
OK so he didn’t say oh shucks but, he did say everything else when referring to the Raiders.
And lastly you Charger guys. Please keep talking. I really enjoy it…
You guys live in a fablble, in an illusion, where you dare criticize the Raiders because we glory in out achievments that you call ancient history yet… You don’t even have THAT!?!?! You are the epitome of a circle j*rk.
It’s sad really, real sad… You’re like a little gnat that buzzes around us and our blogs because you have no life to speak of, your a GNAT.
Look kids, get a couple of playoff wins, IN A ROW! 1st.
2nd, go to the Superbowl and win it.
3rd maybe then we won’t laugh at your delusions of grandeur
Oh and yes kiddies, they ARE delusions because you have never ,ever EVER had a real elite team so that’s why you don’t care about the past, you don’t have one… Not even in the prehistoric past my dear children NEVER! Not that you should have one, after all, you’re a gnat!
Until you stop the flamboyant trash talk and start racking up at least one Lombardi… Ah, that means (Superbowl championship trophy)
Then my little (could of, should of, would of) Chargerites, we NFL fans in general will see you guys as (just barely) a notch above the Browns & thousands of notches (measured in feet) below the Bills.
Hey they went to the big game 4 times in a row… that was an elite team… they have THAT!!!
Even in losing they were winners… But you guys have… Well let’s see you guys have?!?!?! Ahhh Yeah you GUYS HAVE?!?!?!
Yes the San Diego chicken and of course you have LT, Laurence Taylor.
Wait a minute Nooooooo that’s not right LT was a Giant…. Ooopppss sorry didn’t want to remind you of the world Champion Giants and Eli Manning who dissed you masters of illusion…
no I mean you have LDT, Yeah LaDamien Tomlinson or however way you spell LDT’s name, I really don’t care!
Unless you count good old Norv Turner on your side because actually, we count him on ours!
Anyway keep up the hot air, the entertainment value from you guys is PRICELESS!!!
July 20th, 2008 at 5:45 am
No way is Phllip Rivers a top 5 NFL QB, no way. I take Brees over him any day of the week. Give us one more year and we will turn the tide against the Dolts!
July 20th, 2008 at 10:30 am
It never fails whenever you talk about the haters pathetic current state in the NFL they always go back to ancient history the facts are this the haters are joke of the NFL as we speak and have been the last 10 years and it will never change as long as Al Davis is running that team. secondly you guys always talk about the Chargers past vs the haters past well their past is this the Chargers had the most prolific team while dominating and winning AFC Championships in the 60’s which is the equivolent of the superbowl so how far can we go back and Don Coryell with Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, John Jefferson, Charlie Joiner, Wes Chandler, Chuck Muncie used the haters as whopping boys throughout the 70’s and 80’s so lets hear you guys talk about Ken Stabler, Cliff Branch, Dave Casper because that’s the only history you can talk about. it’s sad that your greatest running back in history Marcus Allen doesn’t even reconize the team and oh yeah he went into the Hall of Fame as a Chief the ultimate slap in the face.
July 20th, 2008 at 10:51 am
i meant to say winning AFL Championships not AFC Championships

THE RAIDERS ACCORDING TO THE TWERP
Notice that McDonald did not include that THE SAN DIEGO CHARGERS have defeated the hapless, hopeless Raiders 9 STRAIGHT GAMES.
TWERPING TRUTH
The Raiders are no threat to THE CHARGERS dominance.
The Al’ inability to draft as illustrated by his failures at drafting consistent #1 picks throughout this decade continues.
The Al overpays for average FAs. Those FA that have a modicum of talent underperform in the inept Raider organization. Case in point, Moss.
THE TWERP’S FINAL THOUGHTS
It will be 11 STRAIGHT CHARGERS wins over the Silver & Crap this season.
Note to the Vulgar Nation, i.e. Raider Nation: Stop living in the pipe dream that the horrid Raiders are anything but a perennial losers.
