Jackson, Palmer cut

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, July 18th, 2008 at 5:41 pm in Oakland Raiders.

There club hasn’t made it official, but the word is the Raiders have cut fullback Tony Jackson and offensive lineman Jonathan Palmer as they attempt to make roster space for their final two draft picks, Arman Shields and Trevor Scott.

Cap space may be another matter. Since they didn’t reach an agreement with cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and will accomodate his cap figure of more than $9.7 million, the Raiders may need to come to a resolution with running back LaMont Jordan to create enough space to reel in their last two draft picks.

Jackson was signed on June 10 in order to give fullback Justin Griffith a break after Oren O’Neal was slowed by a hamstring injury.

Palmer was claimed last Dec. 26 off the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad and was working primarily as a guard during minicamps and organized team activities.

  5. Chris in NY Says:

Cut LaMont loose already. We’re not getting anything back and I don’t think he’ll accept battling for a position as a 4th RB. Turn the page.

  6. KoolKell Says:

I would have thought singing Nnamdi to a long term deal would have given them more flexibility, since his salary under such a deal could be negotiated and/or deferred and would be in the 5 mill range.

  12. los angeles raiders Says:

I have to admit though, jordan was running hard for us untill he was hurt trying to do some back spin before he hit the hole

  13. RaiderKen Says:

No team will part with a pick for Jordan. They all know he is getting released. A team might give up a project player though!

  14. RaiderKen Says:

Funny Jordan was hurt every season!

  33. 408RAIDER Says:

    Chile Relleno

I like the way your thinking bro…

  34. ghost to the post Says:

Can somebody cut Higgens?? please?? He has no heart. He is not aggresive, not a game-er and not a football player. iT IS VERY unlikely he ever will be where as we have some interesting wide receivers, a punt returner or two, and a need for roster/cap space. send him on his way.

  35. Chile Relleno Says:

He just had his confidence shook Ghost, He should be fine! I hope

  36. ghost to the post Says:

really it was all year long, and with I think two droped punts,, I don’t know how to coach that, but I think kiff will do the right thing if it is his call during preseason… HIs backflips are pretty cool …maybe gemnastics?

  37. Chile Relleno Says:

But if he muffs another return then I say send him across the bay!

  38. Chile Relleno Says:

the back flips are kick azz

  39. Chile Relleno Says:

Maybe the circus vargas will pick him up for a 3rd rounder when they are in Oakland

  40. Chile Relleno Says:

Or we could trade with them straight up for the bearded lady to show turd how to stop the run

  41. KoolKell Says:

Figures crazy Al would sign Jackson one day and then turn around and cut him the next. He has totally lost it. I’m so sick of his crap.

  42. LARDR76 Says:

Jackson was only signed to give justin Griffith breathers because Oneal had a hamstring injury. The dude had no shot of making the team

  43. Chile Relleno Says:

    Maybe crazy Kiff cut him

  44. KoolKell Says:

Yeah, sure. Kiffin cut him. What are you, some kind of comedian? Either that or a naive fool.

  45. Chile Relleno Says:

Chill KoolKell, don’t kill the mellow vibe my friend

  46. Eric Says:

Steve Cochran with all his un-biased wisdom has officially predicted the Raiders to finsh 3-13 !

Thats right, one game worse than last year!

One more year under Kiffin adding and paying for better players = apparently one fewer win !

our schedule is easier too…. HATER

I am sick of the blatant disrespect from NANCY GAY, BABERIRI and now COCHRAN….they all eat lunch togther and laugh at the Raiders Joke of a Franchise.

Gay has literally use the term “joke of franchise” in her article last year.

They need to stick where the sun dont shine!!!!!

  47. Chile Relleno Says:

Totally agree Eric! could you imagine how they would grill us if The whole Favre thing was happening to us?

  48. Chile Relleno Says:

And I’m surprised cause that kind of situation seems like it would happen to us! Or even the Mike Vick thing. Hopefully Al’s deal with the Devil he made long ago is almost up.

  49. Eric Says:

    C. Relleno

Al Davis would get all the Favre he could before starting a young QB.
Most NFL people prefer veteran QBS and Favre is a legend.

  50. ghost to the post Says:

the bearded lady… haha. well yeah they should take a real good look at him too. and with his contract wow… late cuts might be a huge blessing …adition by subtraction.

  51. Eric Says:

Jeremy Green and John clayton actually believe the Raiders will be not only better but fun to watch.

Its interesting to see the love and hate toward our Raiders.

like in NFL dot com…(writer) ‘VIC’- Actually still writing about Russell’s weight as something ” to keep an eye on in camp”
    what a loser!

  52. Eric Says:

    HI~Ghost to Post

..the conversation wasnt about wanting Favre. Relleno was saying ” IF” we were in that position how the hating Media would cover the Raiders, if it was happening to us..

just to clarify..Russell is the man, we can all agree.

  53. Chile Relleno Says:

    i305.photobucket.com/…/thAlDavisDarthVader.jpg
Check it out Al just signed a legend! we don’t know where hell play but he ran a 3.5 40 dash!

    Sorry bout that mods

  54. ghost to the post Says:

gottcha bro.. Russell’s a kool kat. was talking about sands and higgins.

  55. Chile Relleno Says:

Russell is the man! The are gonna nickname our new aqusition “SHOW OF FORCE”

  56. Eric Says:

be sure to let these idiot writers who get their jollies by irritating the Fans, know how much they suck !

call Steve Cochran on his crap!

go read his articles and let me know when you find a good one!

Bay Area–softest sports fans ! and most vanilla full of themselves media ever!

  57. Chile Relleno Says:

    sorry ***THEY***are gonna>>> I have trouble tiping Y’s when I’m buzzed. AHHH!!see what I mean

  58. ghost to the post Says:

I actually think , farve would not be a bad move if money were no object. Which I think it is increasingly, and if the cap were’nt an issue, He would assist somewhat with russels development, win more games and sell a lot of tickets/win fans/ good press.. Greenbay is curently america’s team for one reason… which is quite a statement. But as it stands, no, they should’nt. and as the contracts/posible bargaining disruptions are developing I believe the organization really has it’s sights set on next year, 09, more so than this, or 10

chile -yes very excited bout chaz… just wow. perfect fit for russel, cant wait to see 80 yarder off a busted play with d linemen on the ground.. I am as excited bout pre season as regular… cept for mondaynight.. don’t care for the rat.

  61. Chile Relleno Says:

The bad thing about Favre Ghost is if we were to sign him the media would jump all over it and they would shatter JRuss, They would report how Al doesn’t believe in him and how Al made the choice without speaking to Kiff about it and it would snowball ito a steaming crap heap. Imagine if Al and Favre did to JRuss what the Pack did to Aaron Rodgers? If this happened last year it would have been perfect, but we are one year to late for that gift.

  62. ghost to the post Says:

Yeah the timing’s off. But I think the media thing would encourage Mr burns to sign him. Loves being right in the face ot the detractors.. I think that’s what makes the raiders asi.

  63. Chile Relleno Says:

    LMAO Burns!
    excellent! Smithers

  64. Blackholepriest Says:

Well at least I garnered a title. Why do people think I’m arrogant?

  69. Chile Relleno Says:

    Hey Ghost:
we have a Minor League Baseball team in Albuquerque called the Isotopes and every time they hit a home run the crowd goes wild and over the sound system the play Mr.Burns saying “Excellent” man its funny stuff

  70. ghost to the post Says:

    raider on.

  71. Blackholepriest Says:

Thanks Chile! but the honor is all mine. You can bring it my frend.

  72. ghost to the post Says:

rich, me and my bro have been comparing him for years… maybe in the collesium. when we beat donkies.. no press is bad pres. it might be accompanied by the rat collapsing

  73. Chile Relleno Says:

The Rat is done! I think it was last thread that someone was saying they were at the Donk Raider game in Denver last year for the Timeout game and they saw the fear in the Donkey fans eyes. I saw it in 2006 even when the Bed and Breakfast offense was servin up cold waffles. I think they beat us 13-3, but when I was leaving the stadium I could hear the fans confidence was not very high. I mean everyone knew we weren’t very good and they squeeked that win out. it didn’t surprise me one bit that we almost swept them last year. We will this year though!

  74. ghost to the post Says:

Yeah, for all that I liked about gruden He always seemed to be just out coached by shany. kiff brought an autumn wind and the donks are jumping off the bridge.. Lets get loud when they come… a candy poster for cutler??

  75. Blackholepriest Says:

Eveerybody be sure to wear black to that game, It’s a showcase for the Raider Nation to the Nation that the Raiders are on the come. And it will serve as an opening statement that the Black Hole is once again in effect.

Silver and Black domination and there’s nothing like it……………..period
