Club confirms Jordan’s release
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, July 25th, 2008 at 4:58 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders’ confirmed they had parted ways with running back LaMont Jordan, confirming his release on the transactions section of their Web site.
Coach Lane Kiffin said following the morning practice he expected something to happen soon with regard to Jordan. The Raiders have only three quarterbacks and could look to bring in another quarterback as a camp arm behind JaMarcus Russell, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo.
With a $6.4 million salary cap number, the Raiders save $3.3 million against the cap by releasing Jordan. He was scheduled to make $4.7 million this season and $5 million next season. The Raiders will be charged $1.4 million in pro-rated bonus money in each of the next two years.
The Raiders wanted to trade Jordan, locking him out of offseason workouts and training camp, but apparently found no takers.

You guys (local sports writers) have been telling me that since February.
What the HELL happened.

Jason Jones says…
Safety concerns
Wilson just might take someone’s head off.
He throws his shoulder pads into every play. Kiffin likes it but admits Wilson’s play “borderlines right now on the safety of our other players” but wants Wilson’s style to ru b off on the rest of the defense.
Wilson said when he signed with the Raiders he asked to play strong safety because he wanted to be near the ball.
“I like to be physical,” Wilson said. “I don’t like to have guys get extra yards or anything like that. I’m a very physical guy and the other team knows it.”

July 25th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
you guys gotta be kidding…
LaMont “My Bad” Jordan dropped more passes than you can shake a stick at… the only good thing was his willingness to thump his chest and say “my bad”…
then… in the last year or two he picked up the habit of lateral movement… managing to move side to side, back, fake to the line… oh, no !!! back… how about over here… oh, no… back, how about over here… yeah… smackdown…
announcer says: “Lamont Jordan dances for a about yard maybe two…”
i say: “Jordan f^c^s around and manages to run 50 yards, but actually only gets 5 and half damn feet…”
RIP Jordan… go stink it up somewhere else…

To all of you who thought we should have drafted Glenn Dorsey.
“As the Kansas City Chiefs rode a bus to their training camp in River Falls, Wisc., on Thursday, No. 5 overall pick Glenn Dorsey was nowhere to be found.
That’s because his signature isn’t on a contract yet. In fact, Kansas City team president Carl Peterson said he and agent Joel Segal have had no significant discussions on a deal for Dorsey.”
McFadden is in camp and signed. That should end that debate!

I cant say that Im upset that he’s gone. Im just upset that we didnt get rid of him sooner. When I say sooner I mean like last year. If the Raiders had any hopes of trading him they should’ve packaged Jordan with Randy Moss and sent them to Brett Favre and his Greenbay Packers for a 1st round pick.
Remember,, Brett was crying for Randy Moss and Greenbay needed a Rb because Ryan Grant hadn’t emerged as a premier back yet. We actually might’ve been able to trade him then.
YA KNOW?!
July 25th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Jordan has been nothing short of a bum for the last two years,…it didnt really matter though as the whole team sucked,…however the Raiders are now on their way up,..no need for that bum anymore,..he wont get on with another team,..if he does it will only be for a week or two this summer,…hes done.

This is the problem with the Raiders. Rick the Hunter, a guy on a blog, would make a better GM than Al Davis. And, I’m sure he is not the only one of us who could run the team better.

Jordan was an effective ballcarrier in the 6-8 attempts per game range. Once he gets the taste out of his mouth, from apologizing all the time, and recognizes his limits, he will become an effective player again, and still earn a pretty good living. He hurt us a few times when he played with the Jets, as I recall. He’s a role player who tried to exceed his level, but so what? There’s plenty of them around. One thing’s for sure, we don’t need him anymore.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

Yeah I know it’s highly unlikely, but why didn’t we send him packing last year and get Bush some playing time.

Plunket was signed to back up Pastarini. Thank God Pastarini broke his leg and the rest is history.

“But I thought Kiffin was going to be fired?
You guys (local sports writers) have been telling me that since February.”
………..
They were obviously wrong. But there were also a lot of reports that Kiffin was drafted a resignation letter, and declined to sign it. Although the team denied it, Kiffin never did when he was inquired. If the resignation letter story is true, I seriously doubt Al and Kiffin could have kissed and made up by now. A resignation letter is a final notice in this instance, considering Al not wanting to outright fire him because it would cost him money. This kind of turmoil WILL kill a team, especially in today’s NFL where it’s hard enough to win when everyone is getting along just fine and on the same page.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Check out this interesting article from 1981:
Bart Starr, the Green Bay Packer coach, scoffed today at a report of a trade that would send the ailing Oakland Raider quarterback, Dan Pastorini, to the Packers for James Lofton, a wide receiver.
The report was heard in the Super Bowl telecast yesterday. Merlin Olsen, an NBC broadcaster, said he understood an agreement had been reached.
”I think anyone that would take stock of a rumor like that is nothing short of a fool,” said Starr. ”We’re very, very happy with Lofton. He’s a premier player.”
Al Davis, managing partner of the Raiders, and Coach Tom Flores also denied the report.

Just some more Pastorini tidbits:
Pastorini raced hydroplanes, drag-raced cars, judged wet T-shirt contests, and starred in a 1974 B-movie called Weed: The Florida Connection and then co-starred in a 1979 Lee Majors movie called Killer Fish. On May 22, 1977, Pastorini was involved in a fatal boating accident during a race on Lake Mizell in Liberty, Texas. The boat veered onto the shore and hit a crowd of spectators after its engine failed, causing its automatic steering mechanism to fail. Two people were killed and three people were injured. Pastorini was found innocent of criminal responsibility. Subsequently, parents of one of the survivors filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against Pastorini. To pay for the out of court settlement, Pastorini appeared in a nude photospread in Playgirl magazine’s December 1980 issue. Pastorini married Playboy Playmate June Wilkinson.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
I dont personally think a letter was drafted, Kiffin’s exact words I think he used to describe the situation was “where there is smoke there is fire”, translation Al got on his case and told him that there were going to be some new things this year and then that with the squabble about Rob Ryan, basically made Al say if you dont like it there is the door dont let it hit you in your you know what on the way out, it what is a more logical story….common, lets think about this here
July 25th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Plunkett was signed to backup Stabler, and to hold the clipboard and get his mojo back. Consider 1979.

LOL! Are you joking? According to that logic, J Russ will be a liability, too, considering he held out all the way through the pre season last year! If you believe J Russ will be just fine, then you have to give Dorsey the benefit of the doubt. Dorsey can take flight to the Bahamas and not sign till a month from now, and he’ll still have signed faster than Russell did with us last year. And, this is just regarding your ‘holdout = not reliable’ logic. Considering Dorsey will be signed eventually, it all comes down to how these guys perform on the field. And we still have no way of telling, even with JaMarcus, who essentially enters his rookie year this season. Hope you’re not wearing a white shirt, the way you’re guzzling that kool aid…

July 25th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
…tacking on to #50, there is no way to tell who will be more beneficial to their respective team, Dorsey or McFadden, until at least midway through this season. Using Dorsey’s holdout to make the case that McFadden was the better pick is just insane. That’s the point I meant to make. I kind of veered into a J.Russ v. Dorsey angle in my previous post, which is irrelevant per this topic because they were drafted different years. Just wanted to clear that up.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
9-11 was perpetrated by the NFL to prevent the Raiders from winning a Super Bowl.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Ok, Russell played last season and even had a complete start, not to mention practiced all of last season so he is not a Rookie. Second, I dont doubt that Dorsey will sign, but the Raiders were atleast having talks with Russells agent, but I heard that Joe Segal (Dorsey’s Agent) and Eric Metz (Russell’s Agent) were business partners, any truth to that….if it is I think it says something about that business firm and for future players to stay away from.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
SNB666, I only defended the story of Kiffin’s resignation letter. In fact, I believe it to be true. I agree with you about the J Russ/weight stories, though. That was pure gossip.

Rob, Russell obviously isn’t technically a rookie. But rather this coming season should be considered his first actual season of NFL starting quarterback experience is a popular belief. This will be his first real season. I shouldn’t have gotten into that because it was beside the point I was trying to make, to begin with. And that is that Dorsey could take another month of vacation and sign and he’d still have signed faster than Russell. Regarding your point on Russell’s agent at least being in contact with the Raiders? What a crock of ****. Either your signature is on the dotted line, or not. Russell held out, period. He held out for a record amount of time, to boot.

To get DMac in before camp was huge. We didn’t need another hold out. Truth is the Chefs now have had a hold out 9 of the last 13 years. Where is the mediots on that. If it happened to us again we would be all over the news as proof of being disfunctional. When in reallity we have a good track record of signing draft picks on time.
July 25th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
MR, who is Rob Russell?
July 25th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Yeah he held out because Al didn’t have the money last year to pay the big salaries, he only had the money this year after a 20% sale of the team.
July 25th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
Its really kind of sad that Russell forced the sale of 20% of our team.

SNB 666, 1st round holdouts this early in the year are practically commonplace anymore. To use Dorsey’s holdout to make the case that we dodged a bullet by drafting McFadden instead of Dorsey is taking the kool aid container and just dousing yourself with it. For all we know, KC can meet Dorsey’s demands by tonight and he could wind up being a force on their D line this year. Unless Dorsey really does go into the actual season without signing, there will be no way to tell who was the better pick between him or McFadden until at least mid season. Nothing wrong with being a fanatic, SNB 666, but don’t be insane.
July 25th, 2008 at 6:14 pm

July 25th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Let look at last year. We were 4-12. Of those 12 losses, 3 were lost by a total of 7 points. Based upon performance, the team last year had a chance to win 8 games.
Now look at this year. We have more playmakers on offense, added some stars in the secondary, and have an easier shcedule. What’s not to like about our chances to get to atleast 8-8?

For those that think Jordan will end up with the Broncos, please dont bet on it. I know we as Raider Nation naturally hate the Broncos but we gotta know that even they couldn’t be that stupid. It’s just too many backs out there right now that are way better then dough-boy. I think they would bring back Travis Henry before signing Jordan. I wouldn’t be surprised if they claimed Kenny Irons (released from the Bengals) but I would love to see them sign Jordan. We all know he’s good for dancing through the hole only to lose 5yds. as well as a 4th qtr fumble to lose the game. So here’s hoping that Denver makes a contract offer to Lamont Jordan. Cheers!!!
YA KNOW?!

Jordan simply had poor work ethic. Remmber the quote from Sapp.
Explains why he couldn’t sustain the same effort for a full season.
Curtis Martin, hell of a player, didnt rub off on Lamont.
I saw great interview with C. Martin describing his fate and his almost certain death growing up. Gun to head -trigger pulled and no bullet fired, the guy squeezed the trigger a second time-again misfire then pointing away a bullet comes out.

A-11 isn’t quite right…
by the way… that formation would last about 3 plays in the NFL…
July 25th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Seven men on line, outer two are are eligible. Huff24, it looks like the idea is that two of those guys remain back, the other six move up and become lineman, center always on the line of course, then mix ‘em up. You just have to have everyone set for a time before the snap, one of the “wingbacks” can go in motion, etc. Fun to think about, thanks for the link.

This whole thing started with Jordan being cut and went from DMAC Vs.Dorsey and to A 11 What the F**K ??!!
I’m glad that Jordan can now go sit on someone elses
bench with a bad knee or back or whatever else he injures. As far as DMAc Vs. Dorsey. We did make the right call. Who would you rather face twice a year??!!
DMAC will just run past him, like he did in college.
I would much rather plan a game to get by Dorsey, than how to stop DMAC. Trust me;if we had taken Dorsey,KC would have grabbed DMAC !!!!!!!!!!!! End of debate !!!
July 25th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
That’s a fair case to make for DMac, Haywood. A lot better than the case someone tried to make earlier that Dorsey holding out in KC seals the debate as to who’s a better pick between him and DMac. I mean, if a top draft pick holding out is that much of an omen, we’re in trouble at the QB position…
July 25th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
i’ve given the alternative universe offense (A-11) some thought…
instead of 2 QB’s lined up side by side behind the center…
go with an I formation with a punter behind the QB…
hey the threat of a quick kick at anytime would terrify opposing defenses…
and i am sure Ryan could plan a special 5 deep defense…
the super bend defense…
wow… this is very exciting…

MaddenRaider, I’m excited about seeing McFadden and Russell out there trying to bring us back to life. Whatever else happens, we get to see that this year, and thru growing pains and all, I’ll be there. With that, I’m out for awhile, just wanted to say hi.

See ya Jordan! You sucked here and shouldn’t even put on Bo’s #34 jersey on cause you wasn’t close to being that good. Overpaid, scared to run through the line with all that dancing behind the line you should be dancing with the stars dude! Come to the AFC West you couldn’t do nothing then and when do you play against us you’ll probably be hurt anyways with your jacked up back ya old man. Arena football is too fast for you maybe go to Canada and play there but the weather will be cold for your bones anyways. You got your wish now what?!? KC? hook uo with Herm again?, Denver? nah, too cold they wouldn’t want you, SD? nah, they don’t need you either. Detroit or Chicago I see but who knows but if Chicago you better not think about #34 again cause your not sweetness and nothing close to it! You wont be missed here overrated and overpaid. The Nation will rise again! 44 days until Black Monday against the donkoes and that rat head coach they have. Go Raiders!

That’s almost as cool as going to “Band Camp”!
See you at the Star Trek convention
Seriously dude, why did have to start something with me today and have me think you are MR hiding under a new screen name?

hey nation just a note to let you all know that jerry porter was placed on the pup list tonight. looks like he is already spending the jags money wisely. also antonio gates was placed on the pup list today, the discharge may be without him for the season. (lets hope)

Spent the afternoon and evening drinking Crown, swimming in Lake Tapps, and cruising in an Air Natique.
It’s football season and it’s worm out. It doesn’t get any better.

well we finally got rid of the last bad apple in the bunch…now we can get on with the good attitude on winning games…and as for Javon,I believe he will be a great receiver for us…I don’t care what has happened in the past, but believe me,he will turn out “A OK”…

Everyone here is giving Jordan too much crap. Give the guy a break, really. True, he didn’t live up to our expectations but can you blame the guy?
His first year, he performed well. Rushing for 1000+ yards and something like 70 receptions for 11 TD’s. That was a pretty good year but that was it. But really, who could have rused behind our horrendous lines we had the 2 years after that. If you put LT behind the line we had with Brooks was the QB, you’b be lucky to get 800 yards out of him.
You all seem to forget that he was leading the lead during the beginning of last season.
I wish the team had half the heart he had. When he made a mistake, he acknowledged it and didn’t try to pin it on the coaches or blame it on the team like Porter or Moss did…he held himself accountable.
The ONLY thing that I would bash Jordan for would be his offseason work ethic. That guy always seemed borderline fata55 to me. Get off Jordan’s back, you all loved him when he ran wild vs Tenn and played the guitar in the end zone.

We really need a balenced approach to running, we need the run by comity with backs like jordan mcfadden and fargus. bush could probly handle it. I think they will have to switch it up this year with three guys who think they should be number one.
