Walker offered to retire?

Wide receiver Javon Walker, following another practice where he did little of note, had already left the interview area by the time reporters learned of an ESPN story authored by Chris Mortensen which said the free agent receiver offered to retire and give back his bonus money.
Raiders officials said coach Lane Kiffin was in a meeting and would not be immediately available to address the story.
Kiffin said Friday Walker would begin practicing twice a day starting Monday in an attempt to get him to up to par. Walker’s ineffectiveness has been one of the few negative storylines of a mostly positive training camp.

I tell you why they are releasing this story about Mamon Walker now. Because they can see that the Raiders are on their way to something beautiful this season, a talented team, with great improvements on both Offense and Defense, with a fairly easy schedule. Our type of schedule is the perfect thing for a team like ours. Believe me, expect nothing less than at least a 8-8 season. You would think that after the Kiffin story falling flat when Kiffin said that Al and him had reached a workable agreement, and after seeing how the team is practicing, and after Asomu showing up on time, people would actually begin to report on the positives, but no. They are scared nation, they are very scared…

Good report, Jerry. This is undoubtedly the press just starting rumors to put a damper on what is without a doubt the beginnings of a fabulous season for the Oakland Raiders. This is what they do. We have a perfect training camp, where we prove that we’re a SB caliber team, and the press makes up this story to downplay our success.

I will prove to all of you right now that the entire story on Javon Walker is contrived media balogna. On one play earlier this week, Russell fired a pass up the middle to Javon Walker and he caught that thing, and ran for an additional 3 yards. Now, that doesn’t sound to me like a player who’s considering retirement, does it? We have to be really careful what we believe from the press.

Now, again, Walker is looking sharp in camp. Every bit as good as M. Harrison. I’ve seen him. He caught a pass up the middle, and compiled 3 YAC. That doesn’t look to me like a guy who’s contemplating retirement. Just goes to show you how nonsensical the press is. Javon retiring is pure gossip, everyone. He’s at pro bowl caliber right now.

Javon’s actions say one thing about his game, and his mouth another. Kinda like the vegas video.
Anyway, I’m just bringing this up not to hate on him, but to see if there’s any relevance. I have said before that I think Walker will be a disappointment, but not the “bust” level. He will contribute, just not to the expectations. Either that, or he will get injured. And again, I hope I’m wrong.
That’s ok though, we have Carter. Curry will step up as well. And once again, did we forget about Miller?!

That was a good article. But who are you afraid Obama is going to screw with estate taxes?
Your initial post made it sound like we were all doomed to pay estate taxes, which is obviously not true, no matter who wins the election. If Republicans get their way no one will pay estate taxes. If Obama gets his way 99.9% of us will not pay estate taxes. If you are part of the .1% of Americans that will have to pay estate taxes, well I just do not feel sorry for you.
The only ones that will be protected by a 0 estate tax schedule are those rich senators themselves.
Now, if you want to scare people about Obama, bring up capital gains taxes…then you would have a valid point.

Backup QB: Interesting to read that AW is picking it up and making more throws than Tui. But it will be more interesting to see what happens with live bullets in preseason games — i.e., seeing who deals with the rush and makes the occasional scramble to move the chains. Of course, they might not see a lot of game-day roster players if JRuss plays most of the preseason deep into the third quarter.

Walker reportedly showed amazing hands in traffic during mini-camp. But if this story is true (which I doubt), one would have to think of spending the money elsewhere and going with Curry and Carter — and perhaps some more DMac in the receiving mix.

Anyway, I sincerely hope this story about Javon is not true. I don’t think catching a pass and running 3 yards is proof that it isn’t. This team doesn’t need any drama taking its focus off preparation for the season.

Like you said in the next blog entry JMac, if it is true that this guy offered to give his signing bonus back so he could retire and Al talked him out of it, that could turn out to be one of the biggest mistakes made since re-hiring Shell and letting him bring in a ‘never-was’ like Tom Walsh as his OC.
The guy comes in with ‘attitude baggage’ from his previous two teams, throws up a HUGE red flag by showing very questionable decision making to get himself into a precarious situation in Vegas, then ask to be let out of his contract during the 2nd week of camp, and you talk him out of it?
Am I missing something here my fellow Raiders fans?
