Wesley cut
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 11th, 2008 at 2:42 pm in Oakland Raiders, Preseason (2005), Raiders features, Training Camp 2006.
Whether the Raiders utilize Adam Archuleta at linebacker or safety remains to be seen, but they cut a safety to make room for him.
Greg Wesley, omitted from the morning roster but on the field, was released later in the day, according to a league source.
UPDATE: The Raiders have updated Archuleta’s signing and the release of Wesley on their Web site.
It’s also an even swap in terms of salary. Archuleta, should he make the 53-man roster, will make the same $730,000 that Wesley was to receive. Kiffin danced around the topic of Wesley’s status following practice.
“I don’t know that yet. He did move around well today,” Kiffin said. “Had a good workout the day before that but I don’t know that yet.”

Hi Jerry!
August 11th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Wesley was worth the risk, and at the same price, so is Archuleta. Let that new S&C guy put some LBS on him.
August 11th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Archuleta’s washed up…Hell go sign another Bronco, go get Lynch!!!!
August 11th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Is it just you and me Jerry? I think we did this once before and I got the first 9 or 11 posts that day! Should we go for 12?
August 11th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
DANG IT!
August 11th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Seriously, Lynch makes sense…he’s a leader in everyway and would be an excellent influence on our backfield. Why not, he’d be cheap and good…
August 11th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Hey Jerry
I owe you a few beers 4 all ur hard work!! Keep it up
August 11th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Lynch didn’t want to be in Denver because he was being phased out, why do you think he would want to come to Oakland to back up Huff and Wilson?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Because he felt he was lied to by Denver…that’s why?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Dakota..
yeah for 700K I take a look at a former 1st rounder anytime..
Yup, Brad Roll, he is worth his weight in gold.. he is this years Cable if you will =)
August 11th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
What better way to get’em back…you really dont see that? Really?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Damn MR was trolling hard on the last thread.. oh well he was being good for a few days I guess thats his limit.. LOL
August 11th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
What is perfectly clear is that Kiffen is trying to push Al to make a deal…obvious deal is…..acquire lynch……….not so obvious deal pack up a RB and/or D lineman and get me another legitimate wide reciever so Russel can actually use his arm…..and Kiffen can actually use his passing plays………..its clear to me…….
August 11th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
LMN,
Too bad Roll couldn’t have gotten his hands on Archuleta in May and packed some LBS on him for his transition from S to OLB. Then maybe this would have been a great move. But this late in the game I doubt it will work.

R u another blach hole priest? Or whats the bhp stand for?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Rolling over:
Dick, most of the better FAs are now signed but Kiffin is just signalling that he wants our HR department to be ready and active when the other teams start trimming their rosters. This is a pre-emptive strike by Kiff.
Wesley was never fit. Irons is on last chance. Bowie is almost toast. Darrick Brown, Echemandu, Gray, Jackson, McFoy, James, Strong, Wagner and probably Rodd are all no-hopers. We have plenty of room to cut and trial.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Wesley’s actually better than Archuleta. Have you watched him w/bears? He acts as if he’s stoned.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
BHPBA,
I can see that, but at his age revenge is probably not a major motivating factor. He wants to play and win; neither of which are guaranteed with the Raiders. But, I can see him going to the Chargers…
August 11th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
My intials are actually bhp? Why?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Im askin you… with all due respect..
August 11th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Yeah, the age thing’s a problem. However, the revenge factor would be strong for both he and Al? Either way they can stick to the freakin donks… Shanarat lied again…what else is new?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Not a prob 408…What’s up?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
They’re has to be some better quality re-treads in the UFA market, than this Archuleta. He is at lil’ puss Stu’s level, in coverage. i.e. pizzpoor.
He USED to be able to tackle.
Big AL, has to do better than this…
August 11th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
My bad I get it now LOL :P!
Theres another guy in here that goes by Black Hole Priest.. we call him BHP 4 short!! Its all good..

Archuleta apparantly ran a 4.55 40-yard dash and did 38 repetitions of 225-pound bench press at his medical this morning. Not quick enough? Not strong enough?
I think he is a seriously sensible, risk-free pick-up. We just need more and more competition.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Im actually not too upset about signing Archuleta. He’s younger than Wesly so we may be able to squeeze a few years out of him, plus Wesly just didnt seem to be healthy enough to stay on the field anyway. Archuleta may serve as a pretty good back up, and could probably make a few good plays on special teams. Let’s just hope for God’s sake he doesnt turnout to be the second-coming of Stuart Schweigert.
YA KNOW?!
August 11th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Well may be…but he just looks “out of it”. Like he’s seriously on some nasty *&*&
August 11th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Repost from last thread…
RaiderKen, the Raiders haven’t won a Super Bowl in 25 years. And since then, I doubt our record is much better than SD’s. Heck, is it even better in that time span? I think they might have won more games. I think we’re below .500 over the past quarter century. Get your head out of the past. It’s 2008.
………………………………………
From 83 to 2002 the Raiders were 166-137 with 5 division chapionship and 1 AFC championship. They had 2 AFC championship game losses and 1 Super Bowl loss as well.
Then with the current 5 year bottom feeding run, the Raiders record has fallen to 185-198.
You were correct. The Raiders are below .500 since the 83 Super Bowl thanks to the last 5 years of misery.
The Chargers, however, DO NOT have a better record than the Raiders over this span.
Chargers are 177-206 with 5 division championships, 1 AFC championship. They also have 1 AFC chapionship loss and 1 Super Bowl loss
So the Raiders have won 8 more games since 83 and they have been to the playoffs more times with a better playoff winning % than the Chargers.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:24 pm

August 11th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
what are the pros and cons on archuleta when talking about his skill, im not too familer with the guy , I just remember he played for the rams
August 11th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
He cant cover worth a damn and is always hurt because he hit like a semi!
August 11th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Dudes, I’m in the STL right now. Im displaced but been here for 7 years. I watched Archuleta play his best and worst. Im just keepin it real boyz, but the dude’s not right! NO one even talks about him in the STL anymore.
Besides that, the freaking chargers have been good lately. Why all the Charger crap? They’re good now, but just wait. Im guessing they’re a 10 win team at best…
August 11th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
his tackling was his highset…but since the STL cut, its a question mark all around it seems
he was subpar in pass coverage to begin with
August 11th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I know at least one team that would love to acquire Lil Huggy—the Donkeys.
Would any of you make that trade?
August 11th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

oh I agree. They would never let bailey go, but for Al to trade with the Broncos, they would have to give up their best player and some.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Dakota, do you realize how much of a dork you look like right now? Everyone knows the world is a screwed up place. There’s no need to talk about it. That’s why we talk football. Ever notice that when you start talking about politics around anyone outside of your small, drunken rube redneck circle, people just cringe? Then they pretend to be nice and mockingly agree with you, just to appease you, before changing the subject? Notice how they never invite you back? Well, the same thing is happening to you here. Shut up. Leave your politics at the door. This is a RAIDERS blog!

“Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. If the contract is comparable to others negotiated this year by the Raiders, we suspect it will be something like one-year, $15 million.”

Besides that, the freaking chargers have been good lately. Why all the Charger crap? They’re good now, but just wait. Im guessing they’re a 10 win team at best…
The Dischargers have the distinct history of sucking ass. They are good now. Most analysts are picking them to win it all. What happened to turn a team that entered the league almost 50 years ago, immediately face planted, and have getting effed in the A ever since into a contender?? Well, let’s find out.
After a dismal 1-15 2000 season the Chargers picking first traded the overall number one to Atlanta for what turned out to be Ladanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees, who left as a FA. After two more mediocre seasons they AGAIN, had the the overall number one where they drafted Eli Manning and then traded him to NYG for Phillip Rivers. It seems the very high draft choices the Discharge had, and parlayed into some excellent players is the source of their rise. Now, we have had a couple of high draft choices, that hopefully can propel US to the next level. Funny tho, how Eli Manning who would NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, play for the Discharge, won a Super Bowl, before the Dischargers. Haha!!

I don’t blame Kiffin for taking a stab at Al about not brining in more talent for workouts, but Archuletta stinks. No way he’s the answer at SLB, and I don’t see him being a SS either, and he would be toast playing FS in our scheme - way too slow. Maybe he can play special teams - but with only 80 guys allowed at camp, we need guys that aren’t constantly injured so we don’t have to limit reps and drills. If he’s just a seasoned vet that serves as camp fodder, then fine, but he doesn’t fit anywhere in our scheme and I see Alston being a much better WLB back-up than a guy that hasn’t played there since college. We should have brought spikes in, and we should bring some DT’s in as well (Grady Jackson if still avaialble).

what ever dude I never claimed to be a spelling champ =)
besides I thought we were cool MR? Im like the only guy in here that thinks your funny!!
August 11th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Kiffin wants back-ups who he can count on and who can play special teams. It is a no brainer. He can’t be happy sitting on a guy like Wesley who never showed up.
BTW - People don’t get it! It isn’t about Lynch or Wesley or any other hasbeen. There are numerous young guys out there. One guy could become the Watkins of the secondary, D-line or LB positions. You can’t find those hidden gems unless you work them out!
This is a young team - stop worrying about getting some tired guy who’ll be gone by next year. Find the Watkins of the DT world and I’ll be excited. Archuleta - yawn.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
LMN,
Thanks for the info… Very hot women! I love the fact that no matter where I go in the world… There is always something to look at.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Hmm,, Seatle Seahawks just released DT Marcus Tubbs. If I were Al Davis, I would snatch him up quick. I think he could challenge Gerrad Warren for a starting spot. Or atleast he could challenge William Joseph for a roster spot. YA KNOW?!
August 11th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Fargas is by far better than Rankin - case closed. I really wasn’t THAT impressed by Rankin. Besides that long run he had, he also had a number of negative rushes. Now we can point out the 3rd string Oline, but still, I’m just saying. Fargas is way better.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Jedi must be @ work or something =) I wanted spikes too but he got alot of $$$$ from the whiners

August 11th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
LMN, I would be VERY surprised if he stuck. I think Archuleta might be out of gas, altho the idea of moving him back to LB is a good one.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
I went to the game the other night…we looked pretty good for a preseason game…we should try to turn that Rankin into a return man…that guy gots juice.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Right - o Terrapin. Watched the replay. Rankin had a hole the size or a Hummer to run through. He got caught from behind by a 4th string DB. THEN he averaged 3 yards per carry on the rest of his carries. People need a reality check.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Archuleta was pretty good when he came out…sometimes laying those hard ass hits takes a toll on you…maybe your right oak…we shall see
August 11th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
terrapin..
nobody compares Rankin to Fargas, but to be honest, fargas hasn’t that much gas left in him, due to running style and what not.
But with both Bush and McFadden on stock, we don’t have that much need of Fargas, so if we could exchange last years stats to a next year pick I would do it in a heart beat..
Then move Bush and McFadden up the list, and add Rankin as 3rd RB.. btw Rankin has better hands than Fargas, not that it takes much to do so..
August 11th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Thank god!! Every1 was trying to trad Fargas to the donkys based on Rankin’s run & he didnt even make it to the house! The voice of reason strikes again
August 11th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
If Rankin can become a KR’r we keep him. Otherwise it ain’t happening.
Every season there’s a guy who rips up 4th stringers and the blog goes hyper. Deja vu. Last year’s Rankin is back with us after doing zip.
yeesh
August 11th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
not everyone has the speed to hit the hole…that hole woulda closed on you…so there’s your reality check bud
August 11th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Oakglenn..
post 153.. I totally agree. I would hate to see him at safety, but he is still better than cooper, and as LB he would help the rungame instantly.. but it all comes down to ‘IF’ if he still has it. and I still doubt
August 11th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
hatin…am i in a charger blog?
August 11th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

August 11th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
COW..
I could see Rankin return kicks, if Branch finger is gone for the year (catching the ball) then I rather see Rankin return than Johnson, I don’t like that kid, too skinny..
August 11th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
All Adam needs to do is work hard and be a role player. I’m sure he can still hit and tackle and thats all we need.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
running backs are too expendable, and there is always a young back on the up and coming…we couldn’t get rid of the backs we had…ie lamont, domo…we’re stuck with baby hug…guy’s a raider for life…
August 11th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Rankin seemed slow. He should have made a touchdown against the 9ers 3rd stringers. He got caught from behind. If that was Fargas or D-Dog it would have been a TD.
I’ll watch 3 more preseason games before I say lets keep Rankin.
August 11th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
COW..
it reminds me of something I heard the other day.. not very original..
August 11th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Notimpressed with Johnson KR either.
Hit the hole? Dude this is the NFL. No back in this league couldn’t have hit that hole. Al Davis couldve gained 3 yards with his walker through that hole. If Rankin was that fast he doesn’t get caught by a DB with a bad angle.
Hopefully he can step up as a KR’r.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
niner fans were actin a fool the other night…i think they’re trying to match our rowdyness…those guys are weak…it was funny to watch them have nothing to cheer for though…man their O is awful…

the guy didn’t even have an angle he friggin horse collared his ass

August 11th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
I want to see Branch on KRs. These other impostors are just that, impostors until we see what Branch can do. I suspect we could have one helluva ST when it all said and done. That is, if JLH is for real and Branch proves my hunch correct.
Johnson got a shot the other night and stunk. Rakin may stink as well. I’ll withhold judgment but I’m not excited by the prospect.
When they drafted Branch they had him penciled in to do KRs just like JLH for PRs - They must have seen something in Branch. So I’ll wait till he’s ready> Not getting excited about the other candidates.
This squad could be hell to deal with shortly. Kiffin is bringing in some great talents. And we could have dominance in 3 phases of the game: Defense, Offense, and Special Teams. Its all coming together.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
G-Raider. I was thinking the Yorks were calling Al to say, “We’ll give you all our QB’s for Walter.”
Walter bashers need look no further than to understand it could be worse at back-up Qb, much worse.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:03 pm

August 11th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Terrapin..
don’t expect him to do that in week 1, with his thumb broken, it isn’t likely, but I had him on my list as KR too..
August 11th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
the only thing I wanted to see the more of was a little more d line pressure, we could of shut them out. they suck .man they suck. nolan is gonna get fired
August 11th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
If I can remember that moment correctly, Rankin let up a bit and tried to turn it back on but it was too late - caught from behind. He was struggling to run the distance, you could tell - hands and feet whaling all over the place lol. And that hole was literally the width of a tractor trailer. I could’ve moonwalked backwards through that hole and they wouldn’t have caught me! Picture that.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Post 176, ROFLMAO i would have paid to see that…
August 11th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
walter ended with good stats…he’s a steady back up hopefully we can get something for him if we decide to go with Tui for a back up…you can kinda see kiff don’t care much for him
August 11th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
I am glad we picked up Archuleta….. I remember him with the Rams…..He gave some monster HITS….. Thats why the Redskins made him the highest paid Safety in the NFL a few yrs ago….It’s a no lose situation……Hopefully he can regain his form!!!
Go Raiders!!

Branch runs in the 4.3s (4.31), lightening fast. As a senior he averaged 28.9 yards per return on 27 returns, returning 2 for TDs.
Not that it’ll transfer over to the pros; but we’ll seen soon enough whenever he gets that thumb right.

August 11th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Terrapin and COW..
you better see the game again, i watched it twice today, and he saved the o-line on a play as well, he got a desperate dump of from walter, which he made positive yards, 12yds, but it was called back by hendersons penalty..
August 11th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Archuleta’s a good signing. I’m curious to see if he will be in the mix at LB, S or both. It makes sense because it’s basically no guaranteed money and it brings in another good tackler with some physical skills who can give some depth at safety and boost special teams. Basically, it’s a younger, faster, healthy replacement for Greg Wesley.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
LMN - Ummm so? I’d have no problem keeping him especially if he is a KR guy. Catching a dump pass is like running through a gaping hole. It is a minimum standard for his job. The guy came into camp a long shot and he still is.
Doesn’t mean we hate him. Just don’t get all psyched up over one play. The guy averaged 3 yards per carry and almost fumbled (something Kiffin noted). He did this against guys who will be cut in two weeks. Maybe he’ll make the team.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
COW..
it seems you don’t remember the play.. he made it all on his own..
August 11th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
KKell… I watched the beginning of that Rams game…and Long was getting swallowed up by the Titans… I kept thinking… RunDmC… I know I wouldn’t have complained about picking him at first.. .but (hindsight) … I’m sooooo glad we got DMC.
August 11th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Archuleta is another bring him back from the dead project. Could it work? Yes, but chances are he is cut later. He is just in camp to let people know not to let up as you never know when it’s your turn to get the pink slip.

Posted by ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson…
“Adam Archuleta had an impressive workout for the Raiders prior to them signing him today.
Archuleta ran a 4.55 40-yard dash and he did 38 repetitions of 225-pound bench press. Archuleta has long been known as a workout warrior and for bringing a lot of fire to a defense. The Raiders look at the signing as an extremely low risk move. He was signed for one year at $730,000.
Archuleta is moving from safety to outside linebacker in Oakland. The Raiders are looking for depth at the position and Archuleta is looking for a new lease on his career. After struggling in recent years at safety, Archuleta is hoping to enjoy a career resurgence at linebacker were he starred at college at Arizona State.
The Archuleta move backs up what Raiders’ coach Lane Kiffin said. He is looking for more competition at the end of the roster. Winning teams go 53-men strong. That’s’ what Kiffin is looking for and that’s why Archuleta was signed.”

4.55 is certainly slow for a DB. Hopefully Archuleta is healed up and ready to go. As I said, the idea of moving him to LB might be a good one. A 215 lb outside LB?? I guess we’ll find out.

Archuleta is a good signing because we’re not using him as a starter. Hes still better than alot of other guys and at least we have both Arch and Branch who can both hit people when its necessary. We now have a solid tackling secondary.
Why didn’t we just re-sign Schweigert? haha.

Archuleta @ LB? You gotta be joking dudes? We kicked him out of the STL years ago. And he gone down hill even farther since then. Hell, the bear cut him. Why would anyone in here have the slightest interest in him. If you want old and experienced, go w/Lynch. He’s pissed @ Shanny, he felt he was lied to by the organization. He is in the right frame of mind for serious revenge factor. Plus, as a 9 time probowler, he could add some big time mentoring to our youthful backfield. Do even say we couldnt use that…
August 11th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
I think the Raiders are having some of the same problems that many other teams have when it comes to dealing with an 80 man roster, as opposed to 86 as it was before.
Looking at Kiffin´s comments about depth from Jason Jones at sacbee.com….
“The areas lack depth the most are cornerback and the offensive line. With a rash of injuries in the secondary, the Raiders had only four corners.
Safety Hiram Eugene helped fill in for some drills.
“Yeah, it’s hard,” Kiffin said. “You don’t get many one-on-ones so our receivers end up going on air. We put Hiram down there today in slot a little bit to help us out but it’s a situation we’ve been in now for awhile. It is what it is.”
- People like Jeff Fisher and Bill Polian have spoken recently against the 80 man roster limit, here´s Polian just a couple of days ago:
“Q: What do you feel are some of the most pressing on-field trends and issues in the league today?.
A: “The first thing that we need to have some answers on is how the 80-man roster limit affects what we ultimately come out of camp with,” Polian said last week in an interview with the Globe prior to the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
“It isn’t good from our perspective….It’s not a good test….I don’t just mean us, but all teams.”
Polian is curious to see how teams will be affected over the course of the season…Why is this such a big issue?.
“I’ll use our linebackers as a prime example,” Polian said of a position that has been hit by injuries in training camp. “When you have an injury at one position, you can’t reduce the [repetitions] of everybody else at that position, because this is an interrelated game.
“So they have to take the same reps as the tackles, and ends and corners, but you’re doing it with less guys. So it stresses the position and you find that you go from one injury, to two, to three, you get an epidemic at one position. Now you’re in a position where you have difficulty.”
“The question is, what do you do?” said Polian. “Do you reduce reps? Do you reduce practice? Do you change the way you practice? All those kind of things are questions that have to be answered.”
From the Boston Globe´s Mike Reiss.

Nice post Marley. As I stated earlier in a post:
“Be realistic any coach on any NFL team except probably this years Cowboys would want more talent and competition at every position.
This is just a comment that many coaches make but since its the Raiders the media automatically puts a negative spin on it. Don’t be sheep and take the disgruntled writers spin on this. Remember that Jerry is a Charger fan and he will at times show that mentality and this is a prime example of that!”
August 11th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
ST BHP..
lynch cost much more doe than 700K..
I like the idea of adam achuuuuleta as situational MLB and SLB.. he hits hard, he is fast as a LB, 4.55 and he would be an upgrade to the rungame, and he would be burned on pass games as LB, because Ball hawks as Morrison and Howard is there, they don’t dare to throw over the middle..
August 11th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
The writers don’t like Al Davis bwaaaaaaaabeaaaaaaaa. Sheesh.
August 11th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Take Morrison out of the game on certain situations and replace him with Archuellta?
What situations?
August 11th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
We do need more competition. So do the other 31 teams in the league.
When Kiffin talks about competition in camp, he’s not just talking about fighting against others for a job at the same position — he’s also talking about competition against guys across the line of scrimmage. When our #1’s have to go against #2’s and 3’s because of injuries, it means we have no legitimate baseline to gauge the offense by.
Kiffin also has flashbacks to USC, where they had 100+ guys to pick from year to year. He needs to remind himself — just like we all need to remember — that if we add a player, we’ve got to drop a player now. That’s not as easy as it sounds, and has a lot more implications than just to the roster. How many guys should we drop, only to add more players everybody thinks are washed-up, slow, jigh-risk, etc.? Not like future Hall Of Famers are coming out of the woodwork and walking into camp.
Kiffin is a good coach who can become a great NFL head coach. This year, he’ll figure out that USC isn’t in the NFL, and the money the team spends per player is at least TWICE as much as they paid Reggie Bush @ USC (where they didn’t even have a cap).

The Raiders play the Titans this friday night which gives us the opportunity to see the receiver the Raiders passed over in the 4th round of the draft in order to pick Arman Shields. The Titans drafted Lavelle Hawkins from Cal with the very next pick. So Al passed on the local kid from a major school/conference with very good production numbers, despite being on the opposite side of the field of Desean Jackson, for a speedy receiver (of course) with a bum knee who played for a small-time school (Richard Spiders). My moneys on Hawkins to have the superior year & career despite having a less than great QB in Vince Young. I hope Kiff takes the leash off JR and opens things up a little more this week.

If Archuleta is a monster on ST’s, and if he plays great in some hybrid or backup capacity on Defense, then his signing will be a good one. But, mostly because of price. Archuleta better translate all that lockerroom speed and strength to the field in a hurry…his tryout has only just begun. Long before he left STL, no matter how hard he hit, he was considered overrated in some aspects — never quite living up to the long-term all-around potential people gave him. And I’m talking about the people right there in STL. Washington knew they overpaid him (in relative/NFL terms, of course) very quickly after they did so.
Now, he’s on the Raiders…so, to me until he proves otherwise, he belongs here and will get my support — whether or not I think there are better moves to be made right now. Just like Kiff, I’m not the GM…so I just go with the flow and hope it was a good signing.
If he does make the cut, my greatest wish is for Archuleta to help school the younger guys — especially when it comes to laying wicked hits — and for him to be a standout Special Teamer. Then, his $730k will be a bargain.

Guys I wouldnt look too deep into and overanalyze CLong at this point in his career. DLinemen sometimes take a year or so to get assimilated to the power and skill of the NFL. Look no further than Mario Williams. So stay away from the I told you so’s for now. Time will tell.
