August 12th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
this just shows that Al is listening to Kiff, bringing in some more warm bodies to increase competition and decrease veteran reps.
August 12th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I know that talent pool is shallow, but there has to be some arena league ,europe guy that has shown some kind of potential…bring in more competition AL!

August 12th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Wow,im going to buy the bar a round!
August 12th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
MR,
Al’s issue with Kiff is that he is trying to hire and fire coaches, but that was not written in his job description.
Al ans even kiff has stated that in the last two draft they got the players that they wanted. he might not like the coaches, and some player he might not be able to get rid of, but there are players on the team that he wanted.
oh and wasn’t he the one that ask Al to trade Moss. If so, Al did it for Kiffin.
To answer your questions, Kiffin has not earned the right hire and fire as he pleases.
Do you think Jerry Jones would allow even a vet like wade to hire and fire who he wants.
The difference is that Al is always the bad guy and take what you read and here on tv as fact. Learn to think for yourself dude.
August 12th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Watkins actually had a really solid game. He ran good patterns, caught the ball, showed some speed. I think Lofton might be able to turn him into a player.
August 12th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Sanchez - he will be cut in two weeks. McFadden for president.

And that was the knock on Watkins. He always had talent, and his junior year at BYU he tore up the WAC. The scouts thought with top notch pro coaching he could develop into a solid guy. I think he’s on his way.

Dakota,
If the Chin3se quit lending us money,???????

August 12th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Wow, Nick Sanchez is a longshot. He was an average CB at Stanford and had a history of injuries. Granted, he played very well against Cal and others in 2007 but, he wasn’t ranked in the top 50 DBs at the 2008 draft. He attended Raiders mini-camp in May but didn’t seem to make much impression.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Oh no, not the Jesus card. Cut him before its too late.

August 12th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Oakglenn,
If anybody in the Raider Organization thought of signing Randy Moss to be a leader is stupider than I thought.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
KK,
You are the simpleminded one when telling someone to ignore the atrocities in Chin@ simply because our economy is in a recession. I feel sorry for you because of your narrow-mindedness on this issue.

August 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

August 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Dakota would you prefer to adopt a chinese baby or an american?
August 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Good one oakglenn - maybe sanchez knows hartwell brown from thier days at Stanford
We need SLB, NT, C, OT, and OG competition. We’re stuck with the WR’s we have - unless we want Chris Henry and my guess is that he benefitted (much like Jerry Porter when he scored 9 TD’s with Rice and Brown) from playing the slot surrounded by two pro-bowl WR’s - he just might not be all that great. Nobody else on the street is going to beat out Curry and Walker anyway, and I actually like the competition at that spot with Carter, Higgins, and Watkins with Holland, Shields, and Schillens pushing them.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Dakota being trendy with the tibet thing…its back in style..I guess
August 12th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

August 12th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
hey jedi drew carter is ahead of curry now on the roster by the way
August 12th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Moss was a 10 year vet, who really wasn’t a problem before coming in here.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Everybody knew who Randy Moss was since his rookie year.
The only leader in the Raider Organization is Al Davis, why don’t you hold him accountable.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

something something complete…
August 12th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Randy Moss scores TouchDowns, that’s his job.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Which WR’s will they keep is the big question. Will they keep six? Or will they keep five? I think they should keep 6 personally…
For sure/most likely
Curry
Carter
Walker
Higgins
On the bubble..
Watkins
Schilens
Shields
Holland
August 12th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
The Raiders need to keep rollin’ guys through.
I’m pissed, I was listening to Sirius NFl, and they were talking to McFadden, and they got to talking about what his rookie song would be and then my car battery died.
Oh well, some good interviews with Kiffin, THoward, Captain Kirk, and part of Mcfadden. Oh and Tom Flores too.

August 12th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Ryder - curry and carter were placed on the depth chart as tied (”carter/curry” for the #2 WR position. Carter started because curry was injured - I would love for Carter to beat out Curry because Curry is a good #2 WR in the NFL, so that would be a good sign if he got beat. Personnally speaking, I think the real depth chart would have Curry and Carter staring and Walker at #3 or 4 but his cap figure says he plays.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
One characteristic of stupid people is that they think everybody’s stupid, Unknown.
An Old Japanese proverb says when talking to people around others, you need to clearly state when you disagree, lest everyone else listening think you’re stupid as well.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
The Moss fiasco was a bad decision by Al Davis. Let’s see, why don’t we trade for a malcontent and place him on a team that has no stability from the top down and then let’s pair him with QBs like Collins and Aaron Brooks and I am sure everything will work itself out!
Al blew that one.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
They need to keep six. Watkins makes it 5 with either Schilens or Shields being the 6th. Hopfully Holland will make the P Squad. To much there to only keep 5
August 12th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
YAY! THE RAIDERS READ MY POST!
I said last night we should work out young guys in hopes of finding the Watkins-type gem at S, LB, DT etc instead of bringing in hasbeens and retreads.
Go Sanchez!

I agreed with getting rid of Randy. I am just pointing out that Al listen to Kiffin and did what was needed for his to succeed as the HC.
I can’t stand Randy and wanted him GONE after he quit like a BIOTCH

China has statues of American mothers around the adoption centers, do you know what they are? Fat Afro-American women. But Americans would rather go get a warped Chinese baby instead of adopting from their own even when the Chinese discourage the practice but cannot stop it because of over population.

I don’t blame Randy, and OBVIOUSLY he was correct in his assesment of the Raider Organization.
Great Atheletes like Moss, Jordan, Kobe etc, don’t have time to waste on bullsheit. There’s championships to be won
August 12th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Committment is a two way street!
August 12th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
They need to keep six WR’s! Can Shields step it up and make it a battle between him and Schilens?
On another note:
Russell and the WR’S need to be talking to each other more from what it sounds like right now when it comes to getting on the same damn page in the passing game.
The need to step it up! They need to be hungry, confident and make positive things happen!
August 12th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Actually, I blame Moss’ upbringing…
Anyway - who cares?
Told you guys two weeks ago 5 WR’s with DMAC and Madsen spending some time pretending to be wideouts. Walker, Curry, Carter, Higgins and Watkins. Kiffin confirmed the 5 WR will be kept in an interview on here.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I actually felt sorry for Randy Moss while he was here. Yes, he quit on us, but Al did nothing to surround him with talented coaches or players. Moss needed a structured environment like NE, and Oakland was totally wrong for him.
Randy is just Randy, Al should have known what he was getting.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Sanchez is just a camp body to have around for practice and the preseason because of our banged up secondary.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:33 pm

August 12th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
This team will run its way to victories this year while Russell learns to read and make correct decisions throwing the ball, the receivers need to be able to block first.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Randy Moss & Aaron Brooks, yeah that’s a good idea.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
The Raiders/Raider fans crying about how Randy Moss acted while he was here is like ignorant parents that are angry and surprised when their pit bull rips their child’s throat out; what the hell did you expect?
August 12th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Dakota- Thanks for the bio on Sanchez! Now, lets see if he’s just a warm body the Raiders use, or actually make the team.(I really don’t think he’ll make the team).
August 12th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
With Sheilds at WR and Sanchez at safety we will dominate!
Oooops sorry. I’m in a sarcastic mood.
Do hope the youngster can surprise everybody and upgrade our secondary depth. After the starters, Johnson, Eugene and company aren’t exactly the guys you want seeing a lot of time on the field.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Norv Turner had the brilliant idea of using the greatest offensive weapon in the NFL as a decoy, in favor of Ron Curry etc. That was bad enough
Then, here comes Art Shell and the Jerry Porter mess and 2-12
He’s suppossed to waste his talent, time and career until the Raiders figure out what they’re doing?
Try telling that to Michael Jordan, or Kobe. No, these players have a fierce desire to win. And if you aint winning, they’re going to be very hard to get along with.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Hey 408, I resent that….I got Filipno cousins.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Al has abandoned trying to reload or patch things up. He has listended to Kiffin and gone for youth with a long term plan instead of reload and hope to make a run year after year. Part of that problem was created by Allen and Lombardi building a veteran roster, but obviously they had Al’s blessing. Kiffin is getting what he is asking for but it’s not like there are good players dropping from the sky. The Raiders special teams have been bad for the last several years and the tackling has been the most obvious problem. Bringing in players willing to hit and make the tackles will greatly improve the teams fortunes over the past few years. Keep bringing in young players that can tackle as Kiffin suggest Al, no matter what anyone else thinks.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Oh, MICHAEL Jordan KK. I thought you meant Lamont the first time you posted.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Brooks was a Shell decision.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Everything and anything dealing with the Raiders is an AL DAVIS decision….how can you call yourself a Raiders’ fan if you don’t know that?
August 12th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Brooks was a bonehead decision…I called that from a mile away, even before the previous year was finished. And that’s not sometghing that I’m proud of at all.
The Raiders waited entirely too long until all the other QBs were signed then settled for the leftover.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Al Davis is not the delegating type. Just ask Kiffin, he openly stated that he gave Al input on the draft but had no idea what Al would do with that input. Al Davis is the driver of this bus, good times or bad times.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Yeah right, the only reason Shell won the first time around is Davis was telling him what to do. The second time around Shell got to do it all his way.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
call it like i see it Quag! Raider on
August 12th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
This defense will have a mixed-bag of formations and schemes, and players will be asked to do different things. Sanchez is exactly the kind of teachable “reach” the team needs. His signing not only shows they’ve addressed a need, but also indicates the team isn’t quite as concerned about a few other positions on our minds. That could be a very good sign.
This is Rob Ryan’s year. He knows it, he’s got one last chance to show what he can do, and he’ll be more daring and creative than one might think right now. Along with his new ‘do, it’s time to make his own mark on an NFL career like his Daddy did. It better be happening before the Bye week.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
COW,
We’ve had our squabbles, but I tell ya. I’m sure glad to see you posting. The knowledge quotient has gone waaay down around here.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Hey 408, I am the furthest thing from a racist….if anything i hate everyone equally…lol.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Most of you already know this and very few of you probably care anymore–Stu Schweigert was signed by the N.Y. Giants. Now that’s a move that’s certain to get them back to the Superbowl! And you guys are down on the Sanchez signing.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Davis has to be the delegating type now because he can no longer walk to the practice field. This guy Dakota is delusional or paranoid.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:52 pm

August 12th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Don’t we have a million LB’s on the roster now. Whats one more? Is “Game Ready” gonna make the team, better is he gonna play in a preseason game, better is he gonna practice? What’s the deal with Sam Williams and Robert Thomas if we keep bringing in LB’s?
August 12th, 2008 at 3:57 pm

Yes and No*.
These cats got designs on the world that eclipse any political decisions we can make. The proverbial die has been cast…soon all of you will be working for me.
Time to go relax on my bed made of cash and sip my morning coffee.
August 12th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
anybody listen to sirus 2 day?
Sanchez is a camp body nothing more.. we cant have our WR’s running plays aginst ghost’s… the encourageing thing is Kiffin went after AL (like a biotch) thru the media and AL gave him what he wanted!! =) Kiffin better produce this year or its c ya later by!!!
August 12th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Lowdown.. i want a raise! it figures you use the term “cats”!
August 12th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Oh, and Hartwell played well, IMHO, and continually met the runner at or behind the line.
Haven’t seen that since Danny Clark was with us.
Gibril Wilson is bringing back visions of a fast Eddie Anderson.
I pray Hartwell plays himself into a starting role on base D.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Ever read of the “Boxer Revolution” Google it. The US tried to conquer China with Opium.
When living in a glass house, don’t throw stones.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Thanks KK
As the season approaches there is more material for intelligent discussion. After Tenn we’ll start having an even better feel for what we’ve got.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Randy Moss?! Some of you more intrepid types can probably go back and find some clips of Randy telling us how he would help change the culture around here, win again, and lead by example. Those types of terms are just lip-service from a quitter.
Al did blow it with the Moss signing. Big-time. But, it’s those kinds of mistakes that make being a Raiders fan more tumultuous than other teams’ are. Every time Al sticks it out there, I thank him for having the balls to continue trying to win…as opposed to most of the league, which would rather take the easy paycheck than take a chance.
And, all you guys saying Al blew it, and should be replaced for stuff like that — if you were posting on this (or any) forum back when Moss was signed, you were probably praising the move up and down. Just like every other attitude problem/serious head-case that comes through here, you all should’ve been waving red flags. Instead, it was just old Al, screwing the pooch again. Thanks for nothing Big Al!
Al spends his relatively marginal profit margin — his own salary, if you will — to improve this team year after year. He has had a long, bad spell, but he’s seemingly done the right things so far in turning it around this time.
I look forward to the next time Al does something interesting and controversial, and am glad no other team’s got an owner like him.
How’s that, KK?
August 12th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
KoolKell-
So did the Japanese.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
What about all the bad teams that Tim Browm was on? Did you see Tim quit?
No! He showed up every week and never quit.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Yes the Japanese were brutal in China. But I’m not talking about the Japanese. I’m talking about America, my country!
August 12th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Brown would drop enough passes to wonder if he was quitting when things got tought.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
tough.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Thats because he was THE GREAT TIM BROWN!!
August 12th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
K2,
The reverse is on Jackson.
China has been given the Green Light for years…while we were bickering about Affirmitive Action, Abortion, et. al., these cats have been putting together an action plan that makes Herr Adolf look positively amatureish.
You know me K2, I did my military time, served my country from ‘87 to ‘07. Love my nation and my Raider Nation…that love, however, doesn’t preclude me from seeing the storm that is coming.
In the interim, as Wyatt Earp said in Tombestone, “I already got a guilty conscious, now I want the money”.
Oh, and the Chinese must be using the same refs here that do the Raiders’ games, we are being screwed.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Brown was good but not great.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Brown was not dropping many passes when he was in his prime you idiot. He was one of the best WR inthe game
August 12th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
I disagree, I watched him drop many a pass. He cried about making it to the Superbowl and then proceeded to drop passes in that game too.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
I remember one year in Cincy if they won they would make the playoffs and Brown dropped like eight passes, in his prime.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
You don’t know jack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 12th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Whatever.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Brown scored with a punt return, Kickoff return, rushing, and (duh) by catching the ball.
Rice can’t say that, Moss can’t do it, Andre Reed and Chris Carter are but shadows.
Yeah, Tim Brown was Great.
And Timmy had 47 head coaches and 246 different QBs…factor that in and Timmy is a Diety minor.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Good but not great.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
I believe you Lowdown, all the more reason for the USA to start handling their business intelligently. Hell China holds about 80% of our financial paper. We need to get out of debt to them, diversify our energy sources and lead the R&D in the new green world.
China will be #1 soon regadless probably. As the US accended, Europe did not go away, and neither need we.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Yeah and Rice is one of the main reasons the Raiders became good under Gruden, Brown took a back seat once Rice arrived. Rice was a great receiver.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
The problem with China is pollution. People are getting cancer early in life from drinking the water.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Tim Brown and Marcus Allen played their respective positions at about the same level of excellence. Not always the greatest, but normally as steady as you could hope. Neither guy did super-human things (with the exception of Marcus’s electric SB run, of course), and they each had a career long enough to distinguish them as greats of the game. I appreciate their service to the cause — when they weren’t behaving like divas — and admire their accompishments greatly.
Freddy B. was the Raiders best receiver ever.
Marcus had the greater career; but for injury, Bo Jackson was the greatest RB ever to pull on the Raiders uni.
Bo Jackson…now, that was a great Al Davis coup!
August 12th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
yo sith ufck rice!! every 1 has an opnion! TB was great! u think he was just good.. we disagree… Now STFU about my boy LOL
August 12th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Lowdown, you be careful over there shipmate.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
I have no respect for Randy Moss cashing his huge paychecks and not giving an honest effort but seriously; a team led by the bumbling Aaron Brooks, Jerry Porter sitting on the bench for “unspecified reasons”, the offense directed by a guy out of coaching for more than a dozen years, while the head coach stands on the sidelines showing no emotion whatsoever while the team embarrasses itself game after game. Now there’s a situation that’s really going to inspire players. That season was lost before it ever began.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I did not like Brown pushing Shell on Davis back in the day either. The one folly of it all is with Shell round two he talked Al out of drafting Leinart and they got Russell instead because of Shells losses.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
K2, Paul Kennedy nailed in back in the ’70s with The Rise and Fall of Great Nations. The gist being “over spending” is the vanity of Great Nations, and likewise their demise.
Damn, even those commies in Beijing don’t have the socialized programs that we have. And anyone caught taking bribes or kick backs (Contract workers at Black Water I’m looking your way………) are executed.
Brown used up his legs on punt and kick returns…Rice, despite being older, was fresh comparatively fresh. Rice had Taylor and Owens.
Brown had??? Mervin Fernandez??? The Rocket?? James Jett?
We improved immediately upon Rison showing up and having a head coach that used Brown correctly, instead of telling Timmy to “just go deep”.
Way to Art Shell.
Hostetler should sue.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
You guys should get back to football before the inevitable happens, and the raci$t BS starts to fly.
You’re all wrong, and you’re all right. About something. Give it up already.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Adam Schefter just reported on NFL Network that the Raiders just acquired Chad Johnson From Cincinatti for Ronald Curry and Michael Bush.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
No way……
August 12th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Kool kell randy nor kobe is in the same class as jordan. yea they all have talent but only one of them have character and thats jordan. That’s why jordan is and forever will be recognized as the greatest player to ever play his sport. And the reason jordan has 6 championships. When things didn’t go well for chicago jordan didn’t complain, he took charge and encouraged his teamates to do so. That’s what champions do. Kobe and randy just get mad point the finger and give up, and need other players to make them look good. It took shaq to make kobe a champ and the patriots (a team already champions) to make him look good. Jordan played for the bullets and you never heard him bash the team or stop playing. So never mention those two assholes in the same breath of a true great player.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
j/k
August 12th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Hostetler should sue. He should’ve had a sit-in in the middle of the playing field when Shell was so lost back then. The game was moving too fast for the incomparable Art Shell, and that was hard to watch. Hoss paid a heavy toll for it, too. Art was overwhelmed then, and he was more than overwhelmed during Art II.

August 12th, 2008 at 4:38 pm

Good post HayesDaze. But lets not overlook Browns accountability in the coaching decisions, for starters he liked Shell over Shanahan, now thats laughing stock material.

It was great when Timmy at his old-age returned that punt against the Chiefs for a TD. Man the joint was rocking. Lesson was as always, make the team re-kick after a penalty.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Nah….just playin’ slow Raider day…
August 12th, 2008 at 4:43 pm

August 12th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
That would have been a bitter sweet pill. I dont want to give up MBUSH, or Curry…..

August 12th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Tim Brown rubbed a number of people the wrong way, but he took it upon himself to be “Mr. Raider,” speaking for everyone (even if they didn’t agree). He should’ve been more of the company man he professed to be (and no, being a company man doesn’t always mean you’re a yes-man). It doesn’t lessen my appreciation for his long and great service, but Tim’s surly attitude tuned-out a lot of people.

August 12th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Hey, Aaron Rodgers looked pretty good for the Packers last night. Didn’t the Raiders need a QB in that 2005 draft? I think we picked right before the Packers did. We took a CB named Washington. Whatever happened with him? And the QB we did pick? This year we’ll get to see Jamarcus and Aaron show their stuff. Maybe someday, somewhere, Andrew Walter will get his chance. As far as who will have the best career, my pick is Rodgers.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Don’t forget about Dokie Williams!!!
August 12th, 2008 at 4:59 pm

Dokie Williams, aahh yeah, I almost forgot
August 12th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Archuleta could work in a weird hybrid D, but no way does he see even 20 snaps a game as a regular LB.
Post # 195: Gannon would have won the Super Bowl on that Giants team, and no way would Hoss have led us to the 02 Bowl. Just my opinion

That’s my two cents on it

Rich Gannon was a league MVP. Hoss never quite achieved that stature.

You sir are the reason Raider fans get accused of having such a low IQ.
You come in here and lay claim to the fact that you have some kind of depth and insight to add to the blog about our team.
This is what you posted last week and I had to correct you because you all knowing ass didn’t know what it was talking about.
You claimed the Raiders would be copying the broncos for their cut blocking scheme and you asked all of us how we felt about that.
I kindly reminded you of a guy named Bob Mckitrick who taught the cut blocking scheme in 49er land way before Shanahan got a hold of it.
So this is the wonderful insight that KoolKell brings to the blog!!!
Ans he has the nerve to call me stupid. LMAO!!
August 12th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I think Gannon and Hoss were the same type of QB…both were tough as nails, were solid leaders, focused on not turning the ball over and were mobile.
Hoss started doing really well when Shell was finally fired and White brought in the west coast style with short 3 and 5 step drops and quick passes.

Hey Lane Kiffin,
The Raiders don’t need to be a “pass-heavy team, throwing the ball all over the place”, But:
You will have crucial 3& longs that will desperately need to be converted, trust me.
You Will at times play from behind and need to score
You Will Not always have 8 minutes to put together a 15 play Field Goal Drive.

I would take either Hoss or Gannon because I liked watching them both!
So I wouldn’t want to say one is better than the other all I was pointing out was the fact that Hoss did win a Super Bowl and that should count for something.
Jim CT lets see the rap man!!
