Training camp, Day 20
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 at 6:40 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Quick hits from Tuesday’s practice:
– Nnamdi Asomugha left the field with a foot injury that was getting a close examination from the medical staff.
“(Nnamdi’s) foot was bothering him about a third of the way through practice,so we sent him to get an X-ray,” coach Lane Kiffin said.
Asomugha sat out a good deal of Monday night’s practice as well, but Kiffin said the first the team heard about any problem was Tuesday.
– Tuesday’s practice in terms of the passing game wasn’t as bad as the previous evening, perhaps. Well, other than than the four interceptions.
But on the second-to-last day of training camp, Kiffin figured a public assessment of the Raiders’ play was in order before they board a plane bound for Nashville, Tenn., and a date with the Tennessee Titans.
When it was suggested that maybe it was time for camp to be over, Kiffin begged to differ.
“No I don’t think so. I wish we had more time. The reality is I don’t think we’re very good right now as a team,” Kiffin said. “Whatever that first game was, I think we’re going to have a big test going into Tennessee against that team. If we don’t have our stuff right and our guys aren’t right we’ll get run out of that stadium real quick.”
Veteran fullback Justin Griffith did not disagree.
“I agree with coach Kiffin. We’re in the development stages right now,” Griffith said. “In the first preseason game, you’re out there and you’re all excited. You see what you have and I’d say we did pretty good. But Tennessee is a different team, the coach has been there for a long time so their system has been in for awhile and their defense is one of the best. It will be a good test for us, going into a different environment.”
Kiffin hasn’t minced many words since camp began, and it’s true the Raiders offense _ particularly the passing game _ has been poor for the last two days. Still, it’s precisely the kind of comments a coach gives when a team is coming off a promising preseason opener and headed on the road.
He wouldn’t rule out double sessions when the team got back to Alameda if things don’t progress as hoped.
– The Raiders had at least a few decently timed plays in the passing game, as opposed to the debacle Monday night. There was also the encouraging sign of Javon Walker having the best day of any Raiders wide receiver, catching at least five passes and playing with some burst and enthusiasm.
On a reverse roll by quarterback Andrew Walter, Walker came back a good five yards to make a catch before going out of bounds.
“Good job working back, Javon,” offensive coordinator Greg Knapp said.
Then again . . .
Marques Tuiasosopo overthrew Drew Carter, who tipped the ball directly to a waiting Michael Huff at free safety.
JaMarcus Russell threw an inexplicable pass directly to diving newcomer Nick Sanchez during a seven-on-seven drill (the ball may or may not have hit the ground).
Russell appeared to be trying to hit Johnnie Lee Higgins, but somehow their wires got crossed and it ended up as a gift interception to Thoams Howard.
Andrew Walter threw a sideline pass that glanced off the hands of Johnnie Lee Higgins and into the hands of DeAngelo Hall.
There were other unsightly plays.
Walter threw a up a duck intended for John Madsen which fell well short and was broken up by Rashad Baker. Higgins had a ball sail through his hands moments after the pass that bounced off his hands for a pick. Ronald Curry dropped two more passes _ one easy, the other more difficult, although certainly within the realm for someone worthy of his own highlight reel of difficult receptions.
Russell threw a swing pass to running back Darren McFadden which was telegraphed to the point where Howard had a better chance to catch it than McFadden did. The ball fell incomplete.
There were some good passes as well. Walter found Madsen for a touchdown drill behind Howard, and again for a touchdown at the other end of the field during a goal line session at the end of practice.
– During the longest seven-on-seven session of practice, seven of the first eight passes, six of them by Russell, two by Walter, were to underneath receivers. Russell threw to Justin Griffith, McFadden and Chris Wagner before finding Chaz Schilens a whole seven yards down field. Then he dumped one off to Michael Bush on the right flat and Walter followed with passes to Madsen and McFadden.
At that point, someone from the defensive side shouted out, “It’s check down Tuesday!”
It got a little better from there. Five of the next seven passes were intended for receivers, although one was the Sanchez interception.
“A number of those were check downs but that’s what was there,” Kiffin said. “In that drill our linebackers play really deep in general in zone coverage so you’re going to deal with a lot of check downs versus our defense. And when you’re in seven-on-seven you’re going to deal with check downs.”
– During one late drill, tackle Mario Henderson essentially blew up a play before a defender by going the wrong way.
“Mario, it’s a sprint left!,” Knapp said.
– Kiffin conceded the Raiders’ defensive backfield can make things tough on the passing game, but declined to use it as a hall pass for each poor pass. It’s equally try that the Raiders have had trouble throwing even against second-teamers.
“I think we get tested with our first unit because our defense is so talented, especially the first secondary and Stanford (Routt) being the third corner,” Kiffin said. “That’s part of it but that’s no excuse. We have to improve our timing, consistency. It’s going to continue to hurt us until we have all of our receivers practicing every day with our quarterback and we’re in good enough shape that they can do that.”
– Safety Tyvon Branch underwent surgery on a broken thumb. Kiffin expects the rookie to put on a cast and face Tennessee. Those who did not practice included cornerback John Bowie, tight end Darrell Strong, wide receiver Arman Shields and kicker Sebastian Janikowski.
– No egregious errors from McFadden after his first tough day at the office during the Monday sessions, where he had fumbles and dropped passes in both practices.
“He made some normal mistakes that rookies make over the last two practices,”’ Kiffin said. “So it will be good to see him rebound. He’s getting tired, he’s getting overloaded with a lot of plays and that’s how it should be now.”
McFadden said he hasn’t hit a rookie wall.
“The last two days haven’t been as good as the rest of camp has been,” McFadden said. “There’s always those days where you have those ups, and there’s days where you have those downs.”
– Kiffin said running back Justin Fargas is probably the most “game ready” player on the offense and would see limited action against Tennessee, with McFadden, Michael Bush and Louis Rankin getting most of the work.
– Actor Antonio Fargas said he treated himself to a birthday present by coming to watch his son practice.
– The Raiders will practice Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. and again in the evening before calling it a camp. When they return from Tennessee, they will resume work in Alameda.
The evening practice, which will simulate the Titans’ offense and defense, will be held earlier because the portable lights have already been removed from the field. Rental trucks have arrived so the field house and weight room can begin to be broken down.

The passing game will parrallel Walker. This dude playa when he wants to. I expect him to show up for big games and dissapear for the rest. he will be a polarizing figure.

I suppose if they come with a good passing effort against the Titans then we can say our secondary is that damn good.
August 12th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
After rushing for over 300 yards last week the Titans will be a big test for our run D.
August 12th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Here is how the Raiders prepare for the Titans:
Give Terdell Sands a seven yard running start at Gallery and have Grove snap the ball when big #90 is a step away.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
LOL, good one =)
August 12th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Well, looks like we still got a lil work to do. I still say we should make a run at DT Marcus Tubbs. He’s right there for the taking and I know some team’s gonna snatch him up soon. Its sad to still hear nothing but bad reviews about the Unsuper Mario Brother. It just doesnt seem he’s capable of playing in the NFL. I sure hope Asomugha’s injury isnt serious. We have a real test coming up Friday against the Titans. I hope they’re ready. YA KNOW?!

Overall, not great news. Sounds just like TC is wrapping up.
Good news on Walker getting a burst back. Arman Sheilds is fast on his way to IR/PUP if he makes it. Dude hasn’t been on the field but 25% of the time maybe.
Boy I hope Nnamdi is good to go. We’re getting pretty banged up now. Many teams are banged up. They have to look into this 80-man roster stuff. This sht is getting absurd.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Is it just me ? Cant get a feel for coachs comments, team in general!Dont recall this much stated confusion /complaining from HC
August 12th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Regarding the passing game; is it the QBs, receivers or just good D? You have to figure the defenders are keen to the Kids practice/offense by now. They have a name for it “check down Tuesday” for crying out loud. What is the issue Jerry? Give us more than, it was bad, or, it wasn’t as bad except for the 4 ints. Your bias is seeping.
thx

Hey Lane,
I didn’t see any passing scheme but check downs last year either.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
909,
Read that. Hall seems to be saying what Kiffin has stated. They need more players to get through practice. Guys are getting banged up at this point…

HALL HASN’T CHANGED
Posted by Mike Florio on August 12, 2008, 9:06 p.m. EDT
Maybe the Oakland Raiders should change their motto from “Committment to Excellence” to “Caveat Emptor.”
Not long after it was revealed that big-money free-agent acquisition Javon Walker had to be talked out of retiring comes news that big-money trade acquisition DeAngelo Hall is already pissing and/or moaning.
Per David White of the San Francisco Chronicle, Hall claims that he has a broken bone in his hand, and that he shouldn’t be practicing or playing.
“I’ve got a little broken bone in there,” Hall said. “I don’t even feel like I should even be out here practicing on it or even going into preseason.
“But it’s something that no one else even seems to feel like its affecting everything so I’m out there practicing and playing the game.”
White asked Hall whether it was his decision to practice and play. Said Hall: “It ain’t my choice. I’m employee 23 so I do what I’m told.”
Hall was traded to Oakland by the Falcons after a series of incidents in 2007 that prompted the team to wash their hands of him.

Repost:
The Raiders are having the same problems that many other teams have when it comes to dealing with an 80 man roster, as opposed to 86 as it was before.
- Listen to Bill Polian just a couple of days ago:
“Q: What do you feel are some of the most pressing on-field trends and issues in the league today?.
A: “The first thing that we need to have some answers on is how the 80-man roster limit affects what we ultimately come out of camp with,” Polian said last week in an interview with the Globe prior to the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
“It isn’t good from our perspective….It’s not a good test….I don’t just mean us, but all teams.”
Polian is curious to see how teams will be affected over the course of the season…
Why is this such a big issue?.
“I’ll use our linebackers as a prime example,” Polian said of a position that has been hit by injuries in training camp. “When you have an injury at one position, you can’t reduce the [repetitions] of everybody else at that position, because this is an interrelated game.
“So they have to take the same reps as the tackles, and ends and corners, but you’re doing it with less guys. So it stresses the position and you find that you go from one injury, to two, to three, you get an epidemic at one position. Now you’re in a position where you have difficulty.”
“The question is, what do you do?” said Polian. “Do you reduce reps? Do you reduce practice? Do you change the way you practice? All those kind of things are questions that have to be answered.”
From Boston Globe´s Mike Reiss.

Birdwell,
Ah the good ole days, when the Raiders were the most physical team on the block.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
With Aso not in there and Hall playing with a cast, and thinking he should have some time to heal…the passing game should not be throwing 4 interceptions. However, when you can’t throw deep for various reasons…the safeties and LBs know what’s coming.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Hey Lane
I’m just saying, Cable came in an instituted a running system, and it’s been pretty good no matter who’s manning it.
I haven’t seen any progress in the passing game. It seems that only recently you even thought it was important.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
I did like Hall’s other comment in the sacbee blog.
” Time to man up, or bitch up”..
August 12th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
no wonder kiff is getting all antsy, he has two cb’s with broken fingers and bones. Hall said that players have to either man up or b1t(h up!
he will just have to man up and quit crying.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
More on the 80 man roster limit around the league….
“Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo to teams ordering them to stop complaining about the 80-man roster.
Most coaches and GMs believe the 80-man roster is a disaster because it makes it hard to keep the players from wearing down during training camp.
Having visited 14 training camps, it’s obvious the impact of the 80-man roster is immense. Practices are being shortened and coaches are worried about players tiring and experiencing hamstring and groin pulls.
Also, teams are being forced to reach injury settlements with players instead of keeping them around because they need healthy bodies to fill out practices.
It’s a mess, but Goodell doesn’t want to hear about it from team executives.”

August 12th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Thanks Marley!! That seems to be the exact problem we are now in at CB. First Bowie went down, then Wadell, and now our starters Nnamdi and Hall are getting hurt. I bet its b/c they’re reps increased b/c they had to pick up the reps as others went down. THANK YOU NFL! ANOTHER BRILLIANT (sarcastic) IDEA!!
August 12th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
kk great point. Lane has to make some strides in the passing game pretty quickly. Jr should have got more work. He is not a rookie, take the training wheels off. I heard pat kirwan on sirius say that Devery Henderson is on the trading block in NO. it may be time to make a move. Chris Henry should be considered. Arman is on his way to Ir, and currry has practiced only 40% of the time. Javon will show up when he wants. Carter is already wearing down. maybe watkins just needs more reps with the 1st unit, but all of these part time players are slowing progress.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
And Hall could be getting frustrated by it. He shouldn’t really be out there though - him nor Nnamdi. But what do you do? Release more players to bring in temp CBs at the risk of those players being picked up by another team?
August 12th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
And be careful fans …the written word can sound a lot harsher than its actual intent (as if it were heard).
August 12th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
What’s up with all this negative shyt coming out now as the season gets closer??
August 12th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Id BET on AL Over Goodell!Could this stem(80 man roster)from the up and coming labor dispute?
August 12th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Hall has to be apart of the solution. He has no choice. If he ever wants to shake the Atl, petrino Vt stigma, it is time to man up and be a leader.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
This sht is pissin’ me off! It is a disaster. My boy is a big time Skins fan. He says they are getting kilt’ with injuries as well as the Eagles, Ravens so on and so forth. Its a disaster.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Marley, you are on point. Hall, Aso, Walker… all could be problems though. Namdi took a big chance coming in camp on time, he will not jeopardize future earnings for the sake of being tough, Hall is obviously conflicted and frustrated, Walker is still not mentally stable. He will degenerate in a negative enviroment.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
C’mon KK — You know the reason we don’t have a down-the-field passing game right now…just blame Al.
Either Kiffin’s obviously going against Al’s wishes by helping JaMarcus learn how to be a real, fully-rounded professional QB - or - Al’s lost his mind by “allowing” his coach to coach (oh, the horror!).
I say we should just go into the season with JaMarcus using all his college experience to take us to the Promised Land. Oh wait…that would be a disaster? It’s OK, it’ll be Al’s fault anyway.
KK, MR, all you no-can-do guys…is there anything the owner, head coach, or players do that is OK? Or is it all negative, all the time, no matter what people do?
Actually, I already know the answer — it soesn’t matter what individuals on the team do, as long as you guys can proclaim victory and “dominance” over fans on this message board. Personal ego over the better interests/hopes of the team? That’s territory that should be reserved for the prima donna players out there, not fans with inflated opinions of their own righteousness.
Ahh, that feels better.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
I fully agree with the first 4 parts
August 12th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
AGAIN,the football nation needs AL to challenge the 80 man limit, who else has the ah stones to DO IT,cmon!Lets get back to 86
August 12th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Wave Walker.
Start Wadkins.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
Mcfadden needs to be protected also. Play Echiamandu and Rankin so we dont have any set back injuries.
Our rund D will be tested against Titans. Its too early still. We just need to stay healthy avoid major set backs.
Next week will be a better indicator where this team is at.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Long-term Raiders watchers (i.e., 25-years or so) should’ve noticed that JaMarcus’s arm is still an issue, and that he is being protected. He didn’t run out of the lockerroom early last post-game because he’s afraid of reporters — it was because he didn’t want to answer questions about that arm. When the time comes to let that thing go with more frequency, Kiff’ll know, and so will we. If all’s well, preseason game #3 will be a much different story than the one scripted right now. If not, then it’s time to start the whine.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
No passblocking capability. Josh McCown, Andrew Walter and Daunte Culpepper at QB. Jerry Porter, Ron Curry and no one else anyone’s heard of to catch the ball. If I were Kiffin I wouldn’t have thrown the ball last year either.
Cable’s contribution to the run game was absolutely critical and the only reason we were in half the games we were a year ago. We just didn’t have the personnel to have a passing game of any kind, and we’re not going to trot out a slick version of it right away this year, either. Rookie QB, two new recievers, a new left tackle, a new center… think about that relative to the good passing games out there.
Give it some time; it ain’t gonna happen in one training camp. The main thing is we’ve actually got some decent talent this time around, and we have a strong run game to limit possession time for the opponent and keep us in games.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
LMN — your vacation?
When the wind and/or rain is howling, San Antone is colder than a witch’s broomstick in Jan and Feb (icy rain!). The River Walk is best enjoyed during more moderate temperatures. Summer in SAT? It’s not 80-degrees and humid — it’s 95-105 with suffocating humidity.
Cali has lots of places that would be much warmer, and a few that will be much colder (mountains, etc). Except for the lack of (ocean) beaches, Arizona would be a great alternative — plenty of party places and outdoor activities, and a guy used to your normal climes will be walking around in short-sleeves most winter days.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
I hope Nnamdi’s all right. Routt’s good but…
Can’t wait to see more Rankin, maybe he can earn a slot by returning kicks till Branch heals
August 12th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Bush is gonna tear it up I hope…
August 12th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
kiff needs to man up a bit too. He is whining about the healthy bodies and that is just life in the nfl. The teams want to be profitable, bringing more bodies increases costs. if a player gets hurt and cut they get a settlement, if they stick around long enough, they get a fat pension. Its a mans world, and it seems like we are alittle too soft right now. to that extent, i like that kiff is turning up the heat and talking about extending two a days. we will se how this millionares club responds.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
But, LMN — If you’re really going to vacation before the end of December…you’ve got to go to San Francisco and the Bay Area, and you’ve got to go to a Raiders game. There’s the only right decision for a fan from across the pond.
And there are lots of fan clubs to help you party right. Bring that hottie of yours, and she’ll think you’re even cooler than she thinks you are now.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Tennessee is very tough on both lines. This is an important game psychologically for the Raiders men in the trenches. It bodes well for the team as a whole is they can somehow not look so inferior in the first half this week
August 12th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Garthraider…it is a labor issue
“We hear it’s a bargaining chip in the next round of CBA negotiations” said one league executive.
“The 80-man camp roster is going to be a two or three-year problem that will have to be dealt with by everyone, because the owners can’t just give the union jobs and not get anything in return for it.
Getting camp rosters back where they were before will be part of any new CBA deal that eventually gets done.”
The owners rejected the NFL management council (enforces the cap and its functionality) proposal to make 86 players the operative limit at the start of the preseason.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
if kiff needs bodies, Irons, Madsen, echamandu, and elling are all on my list of expendable players. i like madsen, but he is a project that at this time may be a luxury the raiders can’t afford. unless they plan on going with a lot of two te sets. Reece may also be expendable if not madsen
August 12th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
The Titans have a horrible secondary Russell needs to step up on Friday.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Griffin is not horrible at all
August 12th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Dick V — Mostly agree with you, but it’s not just Kiff. It’s almost every coach in the league — there are no USC-like 110 men on a roster in the bigs. They all need to man-up and understand they’re all in the same boat.
Goodell might be telling the teams to cool it with their complaints of the roster size, but this ain’t no dictatorship. The problem will be corrected when they get back around to making those off-season changes. Way too much money at stake with these players.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Dick v,understand ,somewhat!Just dont think the rosters should have been reduced ,some injurys can be played thru, and as u know, many cant
August 12th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Marley — You’re right. It is union vs ownership, and the owners usually turn down any union proposal that looks like it’ll cost them more money. Then, down the road they say, “Ahh! It’ll actually save us some money and improve the game at the same time! It’s a good thing we owners thought of it!”

it was something like that I was thinking about =)
I realized the texans games was at home, my GF’s sister lives in the houston area I think..
But I think, 21st december is a tough ticket to buy, plus plane tickets is more expensive at that time a year… we might just take a trip to the Mediterranean..

post 56, I totally agree

I kinda hope the Raiders lose to the Titans so they can get a reality check. They need to learn how to lick their wounds now before they get a rude awakening in the regular season. I don’t want this team to be a pre-season wonder. I want them to be humbled so they can enter the regular season with a clear head and an understanding that they will need to work hard for them to be successful.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Dec. 21 tix can be had no problem. Besides, you need to come to the US so you can get a better understanding of the place.
August 12th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
bob marley, lets see what the owners say on SEPT 8TH,when some key players may NOT be available cuz rosters were limited to 80 vs 86 ps AGREE W/youre earlierPOST
August 12th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Yeah, everyone’s in the same boat roster-wise, but it doesn’t mean it’s a good boat.
I think that the majority of the public complaints are well-considered, the complaintants knowing full well that the media will report on them.
A little free PR never hurt, right?
August 12th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
I´m out, night all….
August 12th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
This team doesn’t need humbling, it needs a tough education. Win or lose in the preseason, they better get it quick. Methinks Kiff and Co. know exactly what needs fixed already.

THE RAIDERS ACCORDING TO THE TWERP
Signing Archuleta is a sign of desperation.
TWERPING FACTS
Archuleta is on his 4th team in 4 years.
What conclusion of that fact can be reached?
Archuleta is not a dominate player. He’s not even a serviceable player. He’s a lousy safety.
TWERPING TRUTH
And The Al wants Archuleta to change positions at the highest level of football at the age of 30?
Ridiculous.
THE TWERP’S FINAL THOUGHTS
Any Raider fan who thinks that this personnel move will make the Raiders competivie with the dominate team in the AFC West, THE CHARGERS, is irrational & illogical.
The Raiders are 0-9 vs. the Chargers in the last nine games. That pattern will not change based on:
*A rookie QB behind an O-line that has allowed 113 sacks in the past two seasons.
*The Raiders run defense ranked 31st in the NFL and The Al did nothing to improve his run defense in the offseason.
It’s the Chargers’ division.
Get accustomed to losing to S.D. again and again and again…
August 12th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Yea, The Titans is the test that we need, i think we need to sign Chris Henry and stop bullshyttin..
August 12th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Neither the O-line or the Defense are the same as the last 2-years. To assume everything will be the same is actually not rational or logical. Next negative comment (wish)?
August 12th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Its crystal clear to me that Russell is a huge problem,…I saw it friday night…my spies, (not Jerry) in Napa tell me he looks awful,..getting worse by the day, not better,…Favre for a couple years here would have been the smart move….as it stands now, the Raiders should start Walter for a while. Sorry, keepin it real.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Russell will get the picture. Experience is all the kid needs. Five attempts in his first preseason game certainly won’t do it. If he’s not ready, the world will know it in the first regular game. Patience. For a few more weeks, anyway.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
I surely don’t know what to think or what to believe. You tend to believe that a team is going to get better as the training camp progresses, more repetitions, more understanding of individual and team responsibilities,
but if you believe everything coming out of Kiffin’s mouth, we have a long way to go. Then that problem is compounded by Kiffin’s remarks about last Friday’s game against the niners. Kiffin says: “Whatever that first game was?” Wow, he’s either slamming the niners hard (that they really suck) and that as a result of them being so bad, we (Raiders) aren’t as good as we appeared to be with the dominant victory over the niners. (Ya, I know it was only the first pre-season game.)
The “most positive” way to look at everything going on, other than the injuries which are always bad and can turn a teams from good to bad real fast, is the possibility that it hasn’t been that bad in the overall, but that Kiffin is playing the “MIND GAME THROUGH THE MEDIA TO MOTIVATE THESE PLAYERS TO THE NEXT LEVEL.” He’s done this before to many players, using the media (Walker, JLH, Henderson, Grove, among others.) So, if we want to remain on the positive side, we need to look at our current situation by looking at all the facts logically. That is: JR was and still is projected to be a monster, both in leadership and abilities…we have 3 excellent running back…Cable’s second year with the offensive line…a big upgrade in wide receivers…additional big time help on the defensive side…and Kiffin’s constant pushing for competition that does and will bring everyone’s game to a better level. Maybe, Kiffin, is trying to make the Titan’s believe that Friday will be a cake walk and thus they may let down a little or be over confident? (just a maybe, don’t go crazy on me guys).
So, to wrap it up, I don’t believe we’re going down the tubes as badly as it’s reflected in Jerry’s notes. Let’s just keep the car on the road and see how we do against the Titans. I believe that we’ll do a lot better than it’s currently being projected. So, hold all your “freaking-negative comments” until Saturday, and then you can blast the hell out of me. If, I don’t beat you to it.
GO Raiders: Raiders 20, Titans 16
August 12th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
everyone just needs to STFU
August 12th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
RRF — It’s not like we ALL don’t know where the team can improve. Some things are plenty obvious, even to people who don’t know much about football (as these posts so often prove). Every coach I ever knew or had does what Kiffin is doing right now. Coach-speak is an artform, and Kiff is a young expert — no matter how direct he comes with it.
JaMarcus is a problem right now — his arm hurts. Can’t practice at full-speed, or with full range of motion? It affects practice just as much as not having enough healthy opposing bodies does. Can’t go full-speed if it’s physically impossible to do so.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
BUTTTWERP,Thats why we play the games,to bad u have 0 friends, otherwise,we may have a wager!AND if u can find a friend ,we can figure out confirmation
August 12th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
HayesDaze#37:
There again, maybe I’m living in a dream world, and I’m totally wrong. This Friday’s game against the Titans will reveal where we’re really at.
I disagree with you about Russell. However, I don’t believe he’s that injured, or that he’s not working out at full speed. If he was that bad, then all the these sport writers, starting with Jerry, Jason, etc., would have commented to that same point. He’s a big monster, he’s strong and he’s playing to speed. A little pain is part of the game…he has and will overcome it.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
I don’t think you’re wrong, dude. I just think we’re not going to see the real JaMarcus until about the Bye Week. If he can go into that with a little confidence, he’ll come out of it with a lot.
JaMarcus is the poster-child of a guy who needs confidence to move ahead — and I think Kiff is handling him (and Walter) just about right. Walter is making his resume look real good right now, and JaMarcus’s fire is ablaze. If JaMarcus is who we think he is, he’ll show it soon enough.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Every player in the league is tired right now. Why do you all think every single player HATES training camp. Shoot last year Strahan feigned retirement just so he could MISS training camp. This year, Javon thought about it. Look for the third game to see how we stack up. There are still too many new players out there to get a good evaluation on one or two games. One thing I do want to ask: Anyone here afraid of the San Diego Dischargers??? I’m sure not.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
You guys Jamarcus Russell is an absolute phenom. There are a lot of things in the world I worry about. Jamarcus Russell is certainly not one of them.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Our defense knows our playbook about as well as the offense knows it. We’ll see what the Titans think of it. We’ll also probably see JaMarcus throw the ball more like 10-12 times this game. The Titans will want to smack him around…I want to see how he handles that pressure, and compare it to the end of last year. If his decision-making isn’t improved, then I agree we have a bigger problem than I think we do right now.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
I’m a Raider fan through and through but I got’ta go on record tonight and give big props to my 14 year old son who absolutly ran his fellow players over tonight in their first day of hitting drills!!
August 12th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

i totally agree with #64 and #75… we got a problem if we win all our preseasons… and enough already!!! dont believe the hype!!! let the players play!! .. dont b scared…. weve come too far along .. not to mention the millions of dollars we threw out to get to where we r now!!! lets play RAIDER football !!!!! just like black jack!!! dont b scared to DOUBLE DOWN!!!!… lets take our chances and DOUBLE UP!!!!!!…peas!!!!
August 12th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
HayesDaze:
I agree that the real JR will start to reveal himself after the bye week as well. He only had one start last year and he’s basically still a rookie (first actual training camp). On the other hand, he has skills and he can make throws other QB’s can only dream about. Al Davis has never used a #1 pick to go after a QB. JR was reviewed and researched and turned over and upside down a million times before they picked him. Davis also knew the money that would be needed to sign him. Kiffin put his butt on the line as well.
We have yet to see the true JR at his best and it will take some games under fire to reveal what a special QB he is. I believe he will take us to the promise land, and Al Davis believe it or he wouldn’t have spend so much money trying to put a team around him. It’s not all there, but we’ll see the benefits this year, and SOONER THAN LATER. Hopefully, we’ll get a little taste of it this Friday against the Titans. I’ll settle for a bomb to Walker for six, DM for six off a pass & maybe a tough 3 yards into the end zone by Bush as well.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Daze is exactly right. when you see the same guy run at you 200 times a day for 14 straight days, you kinda know what he’s gonna do. Hence why teams in the league like to practice against other teams, to change it up. And our defense just manhandled the hapless Whiners in both practice and the game. The offense is clearly lagging. Hence why we picked up Dmac, Javon, Drew Carter, Kwame Harris, James Lofton and Paul Hackett.
August 12th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Well alright it has been an overwhelming show of support for the whole 80 - 86 man roster subject.
This is great news because it proves that the media is putting a negative spin on the whole kiffin wanting more players and its Al’s Fault when in reality every team needs more players right now.
Now with regards to Halls injured finger. Are you SERIOUS dude we pay you like 7-8 million dollars a year and you are going to sit out of practice with a broken finger. What happened to the athletes of the old days where the only way you could get a guy out of a game is if his was decapitated. Didn’t Jack Youngblood play a half of football with a broken leg and two aspirin taped to his leg was all the treatment he got until after the game . In the old days you could take a guy out of game he just wouldn’t come out. but with today’s athletes they are pussies and cry about a broken finger. I remember a game where KC QB Steve DeBerg had a broken finger he went to the sideline and a trainer put it back in place and then he went right back into the game after that.
Hall and most of today’s athletes wouldn’t have made it back then.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
by the way.. i agree also on dmac being benched… its clear that the boy is and has natural talent… we do not need him banged up.. hes on an instinct level therefore we sit him out and give the handoffs to bush… he needs the reps more.. and fargas… we’l just send his culo up the middle and wreck @#$!…. yes .. the “D” will be tested… and im confident that all the chips r gonna fall in place the nite we play the donkeys… jruss needs more play time… like a whole 1st quarter… how do u expect him to react in a real game??? unleash the beast!!!!
August 12th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Good to hear about Javon Walker starting to pick things up.
I still have confidence in Russell, I just don’t think that he will be as good as people think he will be THIS YEAR. And we have to ride it out with Russell, otherwise he can’t learn.
This year will be an bumpy ride, but an important one in this team’s development.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
OakGlenn
You and Daze are absolutely right. The defense knows if they’re going to run a post, a sideline route, a curl, a stop & go, a slant or a simple drop off in front of the linebackers who are dropping back. That’s why it hard to get real separation in training camp. We’ll see some separation this Friday and more completions. Even Walter is going to do good.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
HayzeDaze,
I guess I should quote scripture and pray, rather than noticing problems I see for the up coming season, on this blog, for which I will bleed dearly. Pardon me all to hell!
August 12th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
RRF, exactly. Notice how no one has mentioned zach Miller??? Has anyone seen Dmac split out yet??? Shoot last game was the Johnnie Lee Higgins coming out party. Who saw that coming??? Carter and Walker have been thru a few camps and look a bit worn. Watkins, Higgins, Dmac haven’t and look fresh. I’m not too worried.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
I think what is happening is we’re seeing a defense come together that’s going to be pretty special. It’s not that the O is as bad as everyone is being led to believe, but this defense, if healthy is going to border on dominant. Kiffin needs to back off the starters and get some camp fodder in here to give these guy’s a blow.
We must stay relatively healthy to reach the potential. But I think the defense will be the best part of this team this year. And the running game will support it very well. Our passing game may take the entire season to really be a dominant factor.
I’m not saying our pasing game wont a factor at all but certainly not what it will be this time next year. Russell will keep defenses off the running game enough for Fargas, DMC and Bush to do their thing.
However these young WR’s and the young QB must develope B4 we’ll actually see an aerial circus.
KK be patient man this thing is in the embryonic stages but we’ll get there. We’re doing it the right way, very detailed and with eye to the future.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
KK brotha!! ease up a bit this is a very young team, it’s going to take time. However we have the ability to get deep plenty and I’m sure we will but it’s not going to look as good now as it will later.
Give it time to develope.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
…with the 1st pick in the 2007 draft….the oakland raiders select….CALVIN JOHNSON..WR ….yep AL you blew it again!!! JaBUSTus SUCKS.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Good story on Hall’s hand.
http://www.raidernationstation.com
Peace!
I think walker can go big if he can get consistent. and not get hurt…
August 12th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
On another note, when we play Tenn you’re going to see a rookie that will take your breath away, named Chris Johnson at scatback. You’ll see why a raved about this kid B4 the draft. He has tremendous speed and quickness. Great hands and scary as hell in the open field. I had him as a low first or high second. When Tenn took him in the 1st, the experts laughed. Well, after one preseason game they aint laughing anymore. He broke one for 66 yards and went by defenders as if they were standing still.
Another kid that begged the Raiders to look at was Eric Foster DE, the Colts coaching staff absolutely love the kid. I believe they got him as a rookie FA.
If anyone else has seen these 2 kids let me know what you think.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
BHP..
good to see ya back =)
August 12th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
anyone who has been in or around ANY camp(high school, college, pros) knows that this is the time teams usually hit the wall. camp is about to break, and the team is limping towards the finish. this is surprising?? two-a-days suck!!! even for professional athletes. i absolutely love what kiffin is doing, although, it’s pretty much what every coach does at this point(the threat of more doubles).
more practice for a team that has won 6 games in two years is not a bad thing.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
LMN, thanks! what are doing still in here this late? What do you think so far about the team?
August 12th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Priest what was interesting to me was seeing Gabril just take CONTROL of that defense for the few plays he was out there. Man, he was telling everyone what the eff to do. Quite impressive.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
Oak! man we needed tis guy. What an aquisition! I’m not used to seeing Raider safeties play the way ours did the last 3 or 4 years. Very soft but that’s OVER now we have a guy that undersatnds wh at the safety position is all about. This is huge if we can get the LBers to join in then we’ve really gt something.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
BHP..
i’m tired of the injuries, I don’t think its avoidable, just sad it happens, but luckily there hasn’t been any major injuries…
Team overall, I like that our D believes in them selves again, and that they realize you gotta work to get ‘06 stats..
Nice to see our rungame click, I think Harris was good, but we knew he would be that in the rungame, but he wasn’t manhandled in the passgame, that was nice to see..
But Kiffins right, the TENN is a test, 9′ers was a pre-warmer.. just to get the rookies know what to expect and get the team ready for the noise..
I’ve had 4 days off, so I started today, with a night shift.. Met at 0300, long way still to go..
August 12th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
i know it would’ve been better to have him 5 years ago, but what do you guys think about archuleta?? if anything(if AA starts), we have the FASTEST set of LBs in the league. the one thing that is true of AA is the man can hit and is a decent blitzer. if tommy kelly and co can keep bodies off our backers, the defense will be (finally) fun to watch.
August 12th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
LMN agree on all points. The Oline will be OK vs the passrush but dominant in the run game and we’ll see that Friday. We will run on anyone. Now can we get the passing game to compliment it?
August 12th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
BHP
I think our D is going to be something special this year and if we can improve on our running game (6th last year) with the 3 good backs we have, we can win 8 plus games this year.
I know everyone is complaining about Russell not throwing the ball deep and the dink and dunk. Look at what Pitt did with Big Ben the first year and that is what we are going to do with Russell. We are going to run the ball 40-45 times a game and he will maybe get 25 throws a game.
I like this game plan and think it is a way to get above .500.
what do you think about the game plan BHP?
August 12th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
I strongly agree with it. This is such a tough league for a young QB to get going and anyway that you can help him especially by running the ball is good.
Russell will be one of the best QB’s to grace this league IMO. But if you can help him have early success then you do it.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Until Jamarcus shows some consistency passing, opponents will load the box and dare the Raiders to pass. If they get the lead in games they may be able to grind it out on the ground and run down the clock. If they get down by a couple of TD’s or so they will be in deep trouble.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
I also noticed that Huff is already a different player. Wilson’s affect on him is very evident.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
silvernblack666…
if our back are splitting 45 carries a game, we’re gonna be VERY good.
the only thing that concerns me is we don’t have any “maulers” on the oline. no pricks. no wiz or dare i say, barret robbins-type guys who can physically punish guys. mcquistan is a prick, but he’s too inconsistant to be a starter.
we worry about j-bone and the dink n’dunking. i’m worried about the cleanliness of j-russ’ uniform at 5pm on sundays.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
according to Jerry, Ricky Brown is a starter, but I think Robert Thomas did a really good job..
Spires and Edwards was good too, I know it was 2nd stringers and worse, but still, for their price they looked good too..
August 12th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
THE RAIDERS ACCORDING TO THE TWERP
The should be a 2nd place team.
K.C. is in a total rebuilding mode with 8 1st time starters.
Denver has drafted even poorer than The Al’s Silver & Black. Cutler has few weapons outside of Marshall. The Bronco defense is light and ineffective.
TWERPING REALITY
The Raiders are not even close to the personnel package that the Chargers’ G.M. has built through the draft.
This fact is illustrated by the dominance of the Chargers over the Raiders.
Reality: Raiders: In the past 5 seasons the Raiders have lost 77% of their games. The 3rd worst 5-year record in NFL history.
Fact, not fantasy.
TWERP’S FINAL THOUGHTS
No personal insults here, just the truth.
Raider Nation can accept it or live in a delusional needy wannabe fantasy.
Reality will smack the Raiders in the face on Sept. 28th. Until then, enjoy your preseason delusion, Raider Nation.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
If they load the box it’s suicide. One thing we can do is get deep and hit the big one. We’re not ready for shooting match in the 40’s but if you don’t play us honest you’ll leave yourself open for what Russell does best “hit it deep”.
The misconception is that we can’t throw it deep. But with JLH, Watkins and Carter can all flat out fly and all have great hands for the deep ball. Russell is an extremely accurate deep ball passer. once we show the ability to strike “stacking the box” will prove to be a dangerous decision.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
i love charger fans!!!
fair-weather fans who get all excited over a flash in the pan. need i remind anyone that team is under the direction of NORV TURNER. good ol’ norv will be an OC in the pac-ten a year or two from now and the san diego chargers will be back to what they do best: winning six games a year.
plus, half the bloggers on this site have a better arm(and more maturity) than rivers.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
RGLC, you’re right I don’t think we can stand back there and throw 30-40 times a game. If we have to do that we’re in trouble. We must be dominant on the ground to be successful. Kiffin is stressing the short game for consistency. He doesn’t want negative plays. But if our running game is what it should be then we can augment it by way of the short pass and go deep 5 - 10 times a game to keep the defense honest.
We must make the defense aware hat we have the deep ball in our hip pocket and aren’t the least bit hesitant to use it……..judiciously.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
My boss was just at my desk, he said we just had got a call, we better focus on.. see ya guys, sleep tight, I guess you’re all gone, when I’m back..
August 12th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
The TWERP………..
Very GOOD name for an IDIOT!!!
What are you doing here anyway???
In case you dont know!!
This is a Raider site!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
ISthe TWERP MR?
August 12th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
By his mere arm strength and our WR speed they have to respect the deep threat. Great point I was posting something along those lines in here last week. I am glad to see someone else say it besides myself. Its not like our starting QB is Jeff Garcia or Chad Pennington.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Hey BHP…..
Whats up Bro??
I’m watching the game between LSU and Arkansas from last yr..
It’s on CBS replay!!
McFadden did a number on the National Champs!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
I really do believe we need another Wide Reciever!!
Arman Shields is going to be a player, but thats later down the road…
We need an experienced WR NOW!!!
I heard some one say on BSPN Radio that JaMarcus had better WR’s in LSU than he does with the Raiders!!!
Bowe,. E Doucet and Meechem…
August 12th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Whattup Glory, I know I saw that game earlier today.
DMC is an extraordinary talent. He and Bush along with Fargas will dominate.
I know most don’t think much of Fargas but I think he will have a tremendous year.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
Fargas is our best RB at this point…
Kiffin saying that he’s the guy that is most ready on offense really says something positive about him!
Dont expect to see very much of Fargas on on Fri…
It will mainly be Bush, D-Mac and Rankin carrying the ROCK!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
SnB666…
you said something about big ben. that is the perfect blueprint for j-bone. this is so exciting. russell is in a perfect scenerio for success(as was big-ben). he doesn’t have go out an win games, he just has to manage them. hand the ball off 30-40 times and don’t throw picks. pretty simple.
now if the raiders’ defense can play like the steelers we’ll have something
August 12th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
yeah yeah yeah! I hear that crazy crap all the time. But they don’t know who these kids are. So what someone says on a particular show has no effect on my opinion. I see what we have. And they will too, very soon.
Because someones not well known or well thought of nationally is irrelavent. What matters is what they do on Sunday.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
I’m concerned about our WR’s corp..
I’m not sold on them at all.
Not that I want Porter back…But I wish we had another veteran WR on the team..
August 12th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
MR TWERP,is that you,JACKASS
August 12th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
How many long passes have Higgins, Walker and Carter caught for the Raiders? I think the correct answer is in the neighborhood between zero and none. Higgins has done almost nothinhg as a receiver so far and walker and Carter have done nothing for the Raiders. Maybe they will hook up for some long gains but I wouldn’t be too confident at this point in time.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
The Titans handed the Rams a real ass whuppin…last week!! Even by pre-season standards….They killed them.
The team…Especially the offense better come ready or risk being embarassed…
I know how good we are on D’……..It’s the offense that I will be looking at on Fri…
Wer’e 4.5 point DOGS VS Tenn.
I know it doesn’t mean much unless you’re in Vegas!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Glory, no one is sold on them at this point. I’d like to have 3 Randy Moss’s but we don’t have them. I think we have a very young group of extremely talented kids. But they’re unproven outside of Curry, Carter and Walker. That’s as good as most WR corps believe it or not. It’s good enough for what we’re going to do this year.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
I would jump at the chance to pick up a WR……I expect some good ones to be released.
It does not help hearing that Ingram from Seattle and B. Edwards from the Browns being hurt and out for the remainder of the pre-season.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
hire Barry Switzer
Run the wishbone with rotating RBs and FBs
One WR on the field at a time
Its the only offense we have the people to run
August 12th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
What!!! Edwards is OUT for the season??
August 12th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
I know BHP…
We will have to make do with what we have……
But it seems to me to be a glaring hole…..
How in the HECK did we let that guy Morgan pass us by… You know who i’m talking about?? Right??
That guy that the 49′ers got in the 6th round….What a fricken STEAL!!
That guy looks like a player!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Als I would love another great WR and would jump at the chance as well, as soon as one is available.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
No BHP….
He’s just injured….
He decided to race a DB from Cleve. barefoot and got the cleats from the DB’s on his lower foot……
He got a pretty bad GASH though!!!
Heard it on Romes show this morning!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
Hey BHP..
What ever happen with the WR out of Detroit??
I heard Detroit was shopping him!!!
Not CJ but the other guy!!
I forget his name!!
August 12th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
BHP…
i’m sure i’ve probably missed it in previous days, but what is your honest opinion on archuleta?? i was rather stoked when i learned he signed. i understand the size issue, but i never could understand why he was used primarily as a safety when was such a stud at LB at ASU. we’ve defiantely got some defenders who can get to the edge rather quickly. at the very least, he adds depth.
August 12th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
I remember giving him the business when they came her last year in the seaSON OPENER….
WE HAD THAT GAME….
He gets PUMPED up when he engages the crowd…
I yelled at him saying he SUCKED at which he put his hand over his ear motioning like he could’nt hear!!
All of a sudden, every one was yelling at him!!
He reminds me a little like ocho-cinco!!
I’d love to have him!!
August 13th, 2008 at 12:00 am
Because they don’t have much so he stands out, although he is very good. I was very impressed with him. But the kids we have are every bit as talented and I’m not just saying that. I’ve said it over and over they just haven’t had a chance to display it.
Glory if we could get all the best players alll the time we would, but it’s impossible. Other teams are going to have success as well. The kids we have are very good as well
August 13th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Archuleta’s biggest mistake was not staying with the RAMS…..It was the perfect team for him……..But I’m glad we got him…………….He was a very strong banger with the Rams….
Why would the redskins make him the highest paid safety at the time….
I hope he pans out!!!
I hope to see a lot of him this friday!!
August 13th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Opening Day Defensive Backfield…
FS - Archuleta
SS - Wilson
1 CB - Hall (With broken hand)
2 CB - Rout
3 CB - Huff
Sound scary? If the injuries keep coming, we could see something like this.
Dear LORD, please watch over the Raiders and keep them from injury.

RGLC
His 1st 4 years in the league I was very impressed with his play making ability. However I haven’t seen him in 2 years, so I’ll reserve judgement until I see him. He’s a freakish athlete though.

August 13th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Glory, anyone would take Williams in a heartbeat.
However, I don’t think Detroit would do that at all.

Adios! sports fans.
August 13th, 2008 at 12:21 am
We need to go and get Chris Henry. The recievers dont seem to be doing too well. I hate to see what will happen once we start getting blitzed.

BHP,
Tell Big Al: Just win baby!
August 13th, 2008 at 12:59 am
raider glory, morgan had off the field issues. Arman is a good prospect, but he is coming off a knee injury that hasn’t healed yet. Arman is also a sharp kid with great work ethic. Al doesn’t pick for this year as much as he does for overall potential. He has alot of potential. Morgan is more likely to wash out than Arman.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:40 am
Jammy is not going to light it up this year. Accept that this year is his rookie year and maybe he’ll get with it and do something next year. His role right now is to be an improvement over Culpepper and McClown and not turn the ball over! period.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:00 am
Hmmmmm? I hope this terrible practice is cathartic. So they do not lay an egg in Tenn. If they can run against the guys at Tenn the way the did against the gals of S.F. we can control the ball, the clock and hopefully win the game. Andrew looked better than JR. I still feel J.R. is wet behind the ears. He toss to many ducks and cream puff (int) passes.
August 13th, 2008 at 3:27 am
what if Jammy is a bust?

Another one bites the dust:
Dolphins shopping McCown, Beck
Posted: Wednesday August 13, 2008 06:36AM ET
Miami reportedly will gauge trade interest in Josh McCown and John Beck but is on the hook for McCown’s $2.5 million signing bonus if he is traded or cut.
Miami Herald
August 13th, 2008 at 5:08 am
Doesn’t surprise me, McCown being dumped, or at best traded. He’s a dime a dozen QB and it was our running game last year that gave him a little more life than he deserved. I’m sure he can be had for a 6th or 7th round pick. Shows the Dolphins are going to suck, a far cry from the days of Marino at the helm.
Anyway, it’s 2 1/2 days until Friday, and that’s going to be the ball-buster. We’ll be going up against a solid teams, well coached and well organized. They ran the Rams and Chris Long out of town. They put up approximately 342 yards rushing. This is going to be a test that “REVEALING” in that if they can run over 180 yards against us…our defense will need big time help. If our offense can’t run against their STOUT defensive line, then we know we have problems, as well.
I believe we’re better than Kiffin is trying to project…he’s sand bagging and we’ll see a battle, but one where we come out ok, not dominated and where we’ll gain a lot of respect, even though it will only be the 2nd pre-season game. Look up, things will get better and focus on the positives.
Also, Javon will break away for 6 points on a long bomb, from either Russell or Walter.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:47 am
What a bunch of mutton heads!
It’s practice.
Bag on Walker, bag on Hall, bag on Gallery, Bag on the recievers…..and on and on.
As a Raider fan since the late ’60s I have to tell you that these check downs that people keep whining about were part and parcel of a “west coast offense” before there was such a thing. Lamonaca to Charlie Smith on a curl or a screen….over and over and then the d-backs crept up and then the bomb to Wells, TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS!
Then Stabler to Hubbard or CD and Mark Van Egan later and then the bomb to Branch or Chester or Casoer etall.
The running game that was #6 last year will be better.
As we eat up huge chunks of field and time with Bush,Fargas and McFadden the other team will not be scoring points.
Best defense, a great offense.
The titans will be a good test but again, it’s PRACTICE!
Agreed, Kif is sandbagging ala Big Al- tell them nothing!
I’M IN!
If you must whine go across the bay with the rest of the white wine quiche eating whiners.
Have a lucky day!

PFT thinks Jordan might be on the trading block in New England. If no trade happens, Jordan could get cut.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:32 am
I knew Jordan would not make the team. he was way low on the depth chart. nice move what the patsies did. Feature him, prop him up make him look good then dump him. Nice….
August 13th, 2008 at 7:35 am
Cheater Bill said that Jordan was not fast. Said he was no track star, but that he had “Competitive Speed”, whatever that is.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:38 am
cheater bill lol.

I was reading reviews of Madden 09. I have 08 for the 360 so I am not sure I want to drop the bucks to pick up 09. I don’t play online and I don’t play other people. The reviews said Franchise Mode and Super Star Mode were unchanged. Sounds about right. If I don’t give more of my money to Microsoft for XBOX Live, then they don’t worry about me.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Jerry, has Marcel Reece been doing anything?
I was hoping he would make the squad.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Lamont was our starting RB last year.
This year he may well be out of football.
In his place we have two big time first round studs as backups (did you hear me say backups as in second stringers) to Fargas who tore it up last year.
Our starting QB’s for last year may very well be out of football as well. And in there place, may we present the first pick of the 07 draft.
Al toughened up a pass defense with Hall and Wilson, two pro bowlers, I said pro bowlers.
Al aqquired a stud WR and Kiff has two drafts under him with all 7 picks next year.
This team is vastly improved and the media wont talk that up.
Best year ever!!!!!!!!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 8:05 am
Did I mention that we are a young, hungry team.
Maybe the youngest team in the NFL?
August 13th, 2008 at 8:05 am
Chris Johnson may start against Us! this would be a good test for our run defense…

I am glad the media is talking us down……
I no longer get mad, I get happy because i know fans from other teams are buying it which will make our winning that much sweeter…..

AA brings a attitude with him. Thats why he is here. You can bet your life that he is all in and fires up everyone around him. I look for AA to give Al everything he has and that means he will be around long enough to get another SB ring.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:12 am
D. Hall is a little whiny biotch who hurt his hand stroking his own ego. Fuk him.
I hope Nnamdi is okay, we all know how foot injuries tend to derail CBs.
