James, Elling cut
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at 11:52 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders went through warmups and individual drills Tuesday without wide receiver Drisan James and place kicker Aaron Elling, who were informed of their release to get the club to the 75-player limit.
Those who were not practicing included cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (ankle), safety Rashad Baker (none) and safety Hiram Eugene (hip) none of whom are expected to face Seattle Friday night in the preseason finale.
Elling’s release means Sebastian Janikowski will be able to kick against the Seahawks. Punter Shane Lechler (quad), however, will give his injury another week of rehab with Glenn Pakulak sticking around until this weekend’s cutdown to 53 players.
Before practice started, linebacker Robert Thomas left the field on a cart with an injury to his right leg. He walked gingerly under his own power off the cart into the facility.
Coach Lane Kiffin said Monday he may have depth chart information today, with center the only starting position in question between Jake Grove and John Wade.
Just as the media was excused for team sessions, Grove was taking the field with the first team offensive line.
Next man up
Fullback Oren O’Neal, was spotted hobbling out on crutches through the front door of the facility a half-hour before practice started. About an hour later, just as team sessions were about to begin, waiver claim Luke Lawton, a fullback waived by Philadelphia, trotted out to the field in a sparking white No. 44 jersey.
More to come later . . .

Rathman will be watching #44 extra close.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I’ve gotta head back to the Raider Image today. That piece of s’t Tommy Trojan sold me a Elling jersey at half price. I should have read into that smirk on his face. No more Mr. Nice Guy. It’s refund time.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Lets offer Strahan the 8 mill he wants for the 1 year
then our D would be great stoppin the run given QB’s no time to throw the ball make the call BIG AL
August 26th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Elling kicked that 56 yarder at Tennesse Janakowski NEVER kicked one in season that long, whatever.Pakulak punted a 70 yarder.Man we gonna get burned by these guys, when they go 2 a west team
August 26th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
this suck,we need WR to replace drew carter.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
All our problems will be on offence this year. Our defence will score points and put our offence in easy scoring range. As a work in progress, our offence will get better week after week.Wistfully I still say 10-6, but hopefully NO MORE INJURIES
August 26th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
No more Mr. Nice Guy.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Why is Baker not practicing if he is not hurt?
August 26th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Drisan James is CUT!!!
If you remember, I predicted Drisan would not make our 53-man roster weeks ago. Let me be the first - and now second - to say good luck Drisan! Hold on to some of that camp cash.
Don’t bother responding.

August 26th, 2008 at 12:24 pm

Please call Zack Crockett immediately for his FB services for 1 more year!!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:25 pm

August 26th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
You will care when his contract is up and he signs with KC, SD, or Den.

Who cares if Bush is happy! He’s a professional football player….he’ll get his chance to see the action, and then he better deliver!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Bush needs one more year to hone in his short yardage technique, and O’Neal is out for the season. Bring in Crockett immediately!!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I think Crockett is done. Who did he play for last year?
August 26th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Tampon Bay is where Crockett was last year.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Bush at FB was a good call, this gets him and McFadden/Fargas on the field at the same time. Kinda like Bo and Marcus in the old days, and Dunn and Alstott in Tampa. Only I believe that McFadden and Bush will be better than Dunn and Alstott - and they’re both stud receivers as well.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I agree bring in Crockett, he should be some what familiar with the system, he did play last year in the preseason before he was cut. he just got beat out by the young guy.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
If the NYG cut the Hefty Lefty we can convert him to FB.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Michael Bush has already seen the field this year and his leg is doing just fine, thank you. btw, Don’t tell me when not to respond…
MR is JUNK!!!!!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Hope he carries 6 Wrs and only 2 QBs , Curry as previously stated by others can be the emergency QB.
I don’t think Watkins , Shields , or Schilens would clear the waiver wire.
August 26th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
i am not responding…
August 26th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Walker hasent looked anything as advertised Carter goes down.Curry looks real good,Shillens looks like he will fit in real good.Man I know I been Johnny Lee Higgins biggest fan but he REALLY REALLY needs 2 step up with Carter going down.JMAC needs targets 4 us 2 succeed.Dont let it unravel, were 2 good,2 much is on the line this year GO RAIDERS!!!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Lester…please do not feed the animals and most of all do not respond to trolls/mods.
Thanks man!!
August 26th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Crockett is one of my favorite Raiders of all time, I hope we bring him back, I never really understood why we let him go in the first place. I think it was beacause Bill Callahan tried to turn him into a HB(or was that Shell?) In any case he’s a badass FB and he’s the next best thing to Oneil. BRING BACK THE HAMMER!
12 TDs in ‘02 (the Gannon years, man I miss those)

To repeat:
Last year we were competitive and for the first time in 4-5 years there was something happening. We played the division much better. This year we will be much improved again-consider the players we have now that we didn’t have last year.
It will be no lower than second place-although the Chargers have more problems this year than last.
I’m looking for around 9-7 but who knows.
Raider til I die. They can bury me in my cap-but only after the game.
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 26th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
The Soviet Union’s, I mean Russia’s President Putin, I mean Medvedev, just stated that if the US puts a missile defense system in Poland they will respond militarily.
Welcome back Cold War.
Last time the Raiders won a SB the Cold War was still on….is this good news for us???
August 26th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
I agree Dakota why would Nnamdi say that???
August 26th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
The last time the Russians pulled that stuff(in Cuba) JFK confronted them with reality.
If they get really nasty we’ll send the Raider Nation over.
August 26th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Dakota do you know why the recent Russian display of power? They are back on track economically where as ten years a go they were thought of as a poor country Moscow is now the most expensive city in the world to live.
Now that their economy is back you can bet the threat of a cold war is back.
Regan was such a liar and a pathetic actor. The guy is responsible for Medicare supplements, old people eating dog food, and proclaiming Ketchup as a vegetable. He did nothing to end the cold war but took all the credit. The Soviet Unions own civil war was the reason for their recent decline.
Seems like they are back.
PS. I love Russian women!!
August 26th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
4eva,
I don’t know why he would say that.
I do worry about Charles Woodson being Nnamdi’s support hotline…you know that lazy bastard is telling Nnamdi how much better it is outside of Oakland. Who cares if it is true, Charles just needs to keep his mouth shut, lol.

S&B666,
I love Russian women too, especially tennis players fo sho…
…but I have to disagree with the remainder of your post. In the late 1970s our nation was still reeling from post war guilt, political scandal and soaring oil prices (sounds familiar huh?) Reagan put pride back in our spirits and lead back in our pencils. He created 20 million new jobs during his term and his financial spending for a military buildup, which the Soviets then had to try and match (which, coupled with their defeat in Afgh@nistan directly lead to their demise).
You may hate Reagan, but a 2001 poll crowned him the greatest president of all time, and a more recent poll in 2006 crowned him the greatest president since WWII. You are in the minority.

Russia and the old boy communist network bankrupted itself.
Cival war happens when you stand on line in front of shops hoping to score a loaf of bread.
The Russian economy could not compete at the level of Military spending that REAGAN passed thru congress.
They had to say UNCLE.

Why is it so hard for us to just get decent Tackles?
I’m not even clamoring for pro bowl types, just consistency. Just a couple of guys who can frickin make a couple of blocks, and play penalty free.
Are they really that hard to find?
Why isn’t McQ playing at RT? He was better than solid when Green went down last year. He’s not even the backup?!?!?! We go to Wakefield? What did this guy do to drop on the depth chart, anyone know?

I think its great, the Raiders will operate like a rugby team this year and will win more games because of it. Funny thing is everyone can see now the real problem with the run defense is poor linebacker and safety play, now that Sapp is gone.
August 26th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

SFR,
I forgot about that. I still think he played better than Green at RT last year, and he couldn’t have been much worse penalty wise. I’ll take his 2 false starts a game vs Green’s 3 penalties plus 3 sacks given up, lol. At least McQ can block.

I have a novel idea. Michael Bush is big, fast, strong and can catch. How about if we use him like the 49ers used Tom Rathman. As a blocker, runner and receiver. Maybe our running backs coach (I cannot remember his name) could coach Bush in this fashion.

Post #40,Because my father happenened to be the President of the WGA West during the span that Reagan was President of the Screen Actor’s Guild, my dad knew Reagan personally, and thus described him as an “aimiable dunce”… Lest we forget Reagan’s pathetic appointments of James-wolf guarding the chicken coup- Watt( Int. Sec),and Ann-convicted/imprisoned- Burford(EPA);…not to mention Reagan’s amazing luck of having Former CIA Dtr William Casey die during the Iran/Contra investigations, possibly sparring Reagan an Impeachment proceeding…Back to football… Our D-line still sucks against the run.Period. You mean well done RED CHINA. The Olympics was all politics. The countries with the largest GDP wins the most medals. The normal chinese person sucks salt through a woooden spoon, they (chinese govt.) have falsified the ladies gymnastics team birth papers, the week before the games 2 old lades 77 and 80 were jailed for requesting a permit to protest about losing their homes. I think it is pretty damn obvious the cheating chinese regime falsified as many documents as possible for the 13 and 14 year old gymnasts to make it look like they are 16. The IOC still has problems because if they can’t see that and disqualify those under age gymnasts then it would be obvious that the chinese olympic commitee has IOC members in there pockets….(again)

At Receiver I was hopeing to pick up Robinson I can see now we’re not going to so I think our young receivers can step up and get the job done. I kind of like the idea of Bush at fb as long as he still gets some looks at rb bring back the days of the fb dive.
