3 - 13.
The reality is Kiffin’s overall gameplan is simple. Run the ball, milk the clock, limit turnovers, and hope to make it respectable in the end. Essentially, RUN OUT THE CLOCK. It is the EXACT gameplan that college and high school coaches have been using all over the country for years, whenever faced with a SUPERIOR opponent. Kiffin isn’t playing to win, he is just trying to keep it close. I don’t blame him. It’s the smart thing for him to do. Unfortunately, Russell’s maturation process will be also be SLOWED DOWN.
If you are going to go 3 - 13, why not let Russell throw it around a little, more repetions, let him make his mistakles, so he can get learn and get better? I can’t help but wishing Kiffin had let him get his feet wet more last year - in all those games that didn’t matter. In retrospect, that might have been the right move for the franchise, instead of worring about Russell’s fragile confidence. Do you ever notice Kiffin is always talking about some Raider’s shaken confidence? Maybe it wasn’t Russell’s confidence he was worried about.
I like Lane but I don’t think he spends a great deal of time concerning himself with the big picture for the Raiders. He is simply RUNNING OUT THE CLOCK. You can thank Al for that.
3 - 13.

August 27th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Impossible for the NATION to be 3-13
August 27th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I agree, at the very worst, I see the Raiders at 7-9, but I’m hopeful for 9-7.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
8-8 minimum.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Kiffin is only interested in making it appear that nothing is his fault. This man will never win a Super Bowl with any team of which he is the Head Coach, ever.
”An army of sheep led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a sheep.”
August 27th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
8-8 Maximum
August 27th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Realistically….5-11
August 27th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview08/team?team=oak
John Clayton and one other guy had them as the second best team in the west. In the writeup it said that with Wilson and Huff as safeties the team can blitz more, “which they love to do”. Checked back a few minutes later and they removed the last little line, about loving to blitz. Strange

Impossible for the NATION to win only 1 game more than last year…..
August 27th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
4ever
nope couldnt make it to nappa..
August 27th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
I hear you MR, let’s just leave him alone until he starts talking football. In the meantime, I have to disagree with your 3-13 prediction. This is a better team than last year and they have a softer schedule. Realistically, I don’t see the playoffs in our future, but I think we’ll be on the road back to respectability.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Maybe Wakefield can play WR or FB…just a thought…
August 27th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
No problems dak
scary will delete it. Most of my posts are deleted because I dont talk about mansex and how much I hate the Raiders
August 27th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Everyone assumes improvement this season. I think the players are starting to realize their coach is nothing more than a SHEEP, disguised as a NFL Head Coach. Unfortunately, this season could have players jumping ship early, last season they expected to rebuild, this season, they should be improved with the additions to their roster.
If we struggle early in this season, its going to get ugly fast.
Lets not for get we were 2-2 last season, which created the illusion of hope for the rest of the season, and we still only won 2 more games after that….
Game 1 is huge….if we lose to Denver on Monday Night, we are going into the bye week 0-4. If we win Game 1, we’ll probably go 2-2 or maybe 3-1 into the bye.
Confidence in this league is everything!
August 27th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
I will check back later when you guys want to talk NATION……….
August 27th, 2008 at 12:37 pm

August 27th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
That was the secret… LOL
August 27th, 2008 at 12:40 pm

August 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
You might be on to something 408…
August 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
You Scapegoat Al worshippers were whining only one month ago about Kiffin having very little say in anything related to Raider football but now that it is abundantly clear he is coaching them his way you are unhappy with the offense? You guys sound like the two flip flopping politicians you argue over in this blog.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
A: is E-your team is not the RAIDERS, and clearly it’s not because you actually understand football…
August 27th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
The way I see it, if we can beat the Donkeys monday night, and manage one win between KC and Buffalo, than game 4 of the season against San Diego will be for first place in the division!!! That might be the biggest game we have played in a few years, sadly
August 27th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
We need to pick up either Robinson or Horn to have a chance at a decent record this season.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Dakota,
Do you see any of my posts?
August 27th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
No, I only see two of your posts ExLa.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
If the Raiders hopes depend on Horn or Robinson Samhain, we’re in more trouble that I thought!
Ha ha
August 27th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I disagree, I think Kiffin needs involve Miller in the passing game instead of blocking for Russell, playaction rollouts with misdirection will help avoid blocking breakdowns in the passing game, not another wide receiver.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Later fellas…you want to remove posts, then this is the last time I visit your site…

Funny how Kiffins highschool gameplan is 5-2 versus Brady and the Patriots for Shanarat.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
yes sith play-action is the way to go.Lets play 2 our strengths, with the KILLER-SPEED we have in backfield,we would be stupid not to.I love play-action and play-action is the way 2 go!!!
August 27th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
The incredible shrinking blog.
August 27th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
The SI 3-13 prediction is ridiculous. They don’t explain in the analysis why the Raiders would suck so bad and wrap up by saying:
“The Raiders are not yet a playoff team, but if they can keep the defense intact as Russell and McFadden grow together, they may not be so far away.”
That’s something you say about a team you think will go 8-8. 3-13 is the bottom of the barrel and a major roster overhaul is in order. Unless injuries totally destroy this team there’s no way they come close to 3-13. They have:
– The best pass defense in the NFL.
– The best young QB in the NFL.
– One of the best running attacks in the NFL.
– The best punter in the NFL.
The run D, pass offense and kick return positions are the biggest question marks. If they live up to the areas where they’re elite and get average production in the other three areas they’ll be fighting for a playoff spot, not in line for the first pick in the 2009 draft.
With just a couple of exceptions the SI predictions basically keep last year’s division standings in tact including 6 of 8 division winners (the other two, Cowboys and Packers, are predicted to finish 2nd in their divisions). Translation: the predictions are good if you want to know how the 2007 season approximately finished. They’re meaningless for 2008.

MCFADDEN to start???

August 27th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Let’s talk football.
I must admit, passing on some of the DT’S at the draft was discouraging, in fact some here were not thrilled with the Tyvon Branch selection.
I was able to watch him as the gunner on special teams as well as trying to catch JJ Arrington on that run, he has a lot of speed and heart.
I like the selection now, and am real impressed, he may be next to DMAC (as we all knew) would be a great pick, one of our better picks in the draft.
My thoughts on the rest of the draft class is incomplete, Shields is hurt, Schilens is very raw, but a very hard worker and Scott may be able to be a situational pass rusher for a few years and continue to lift weights to get bigger and stronger.
Any thought out there?
August 27th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
4 eva:
We have a 4 game strecth a few games after that where we are in Balt., home for Carolina and Atlanta, and in Miami. At worst 3-1
August 27th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Anybody watch Trevor Scott in that Arizona game, one play in particlur struck me: It was a run to the right, and Scott jogged over and just kind of shoved the back, then came off the field and was shown sucking wind on the sideline. He looked awful, he really needs to work on his effort against running plays.
August 27th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Dang, looks like they wiped MR of this thread with the exception of post #1.

3-13? Really?
C’mon BSPN. You should know better than that. We will go 8-8 this season. But it will take consistency on both our D and O. If we can keep up a C+ to B- level of play on our O and our expected A to B+ level on D, we should be able to win at least 8 games with our schedule.
Getting a decent WR before the season opener won’t hurt either.
August 27th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
They are getting rid of the riff raff because they have gotten around to actually looking at the last 3 or 4 blog entry responses before the live chat.

Brien , If you want Jerry to answer your questions, you might want to refrain from using “bitch and Ass” every other word. Just trying to help out.

Our receivers suck this year.
The available free agents suck this year, look forward
to next years receivers. Roy Williams would be sweet but I doubt the Lions let him go but you know big Al.
2009 NFL Free Agent Receivers
By: Greg Davis
Roy Williams, UFA, Detroit Lions
It is hard to imagine that the Lions will let Williams leave town. Of three first round receiver selections, he is the only on that has paid off. Injuries have slowed him and caused him to miss time in his four seasons, but his athleticism and talent have helped him become a significant offensive threat. He should reach 4,000 career receiving yards in ’08 and he will look to stay healthy so that he can build upon his success. He is capable of over 1,300 receiving yards, as he proved in ’06, and he has scored 28 touchdowns in 55 games. If the Lions are unable to improve, Williams may find a team that will better compete with the rest of the league.
Lee Evans, UFA, Buffalo Bills
If a team wants downfield speed after this season, they can look no further than Lee Evans. Evans is undersized by current standards, but he has used his speed and hands to make up for any perceived lack of size. Evans caught 48 passes during each of his first two seasons in the league and had 16 total touchdowns. In his third season, Evans put himself on the map with 82 receptions and nearly 1,300 receiving yards, and after a slow start last season, he still got open for 55 receptions and over 800 yards. Ideally, a team would like to pair him with a larger possession type receiver while Evans stretches defenses with his speed. Buffalo hasn’t had the best help around Evans, so a new team could produce even better results.
Bobby Engram, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Engram likely won’t be the most desired receiver on the market next offseason, but he will provide a veteran option for team’s looking to add experience with their youth and others. Engram has an injury history that has caused him to miss a fair amount of time, but he’s been a solid receiver when healthy; he also seems to have good timing, as last season was the best of his career. His 94 receptions helped him rack up 1,147 yards and six touchdowns without a strong running game supporting the offense. Engram will miss the beginning of the upcoming season, but if he returns and can somewhat repeat his performance of last season, he should be well paid. He’ll likely wind up back in Seattle with his career much closer to the end than the beginning.
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Now a Pro Bowl player, Houshmandzadeh is one of the league’s top receivers and arguably the best number two receiver along with the likes of Indianapolis’ Reggie Wayne. A seventh round selection, Houshmandzadeh will surpass 5,000 career receiving yards in ’08. Amazingly, he has increased his reception and touchdowns totals in each of his six seasons and is coming off of a league-leading 112 receptions with 12 touchdowns. Cincinnati is already having issues with number one receiver Chad Johnson, so losing Houshmandzadeh could be a major setback. Look for the Bengals to make every effort to retain and possibly promote Houshmanzadeh.
Desmond Clark, UFA, Chicago Bears
Clark had the best numbers of the ’09 free agent tight end bunch in ’07, and while it will be difficult to do it again in ’08, he should do okay on the market. The Bears have ’07 first round tight end Greg Olsen waiting in the wings, so the chance of Clark staying in Chicago is extremely slim. Even with Olsen taking reps, Clark had 44 receptions for 545 yards and four touchdowns. In ’06, he had over 600 yards and six touchdowns, proving that he can maintain a decent clip at this stage of his career. While he is now in his early 30s, he’s still going to wind up earning a starter role somewhere in the league.
Other Wide Receivers
Hank Baskett, RFA, Philadelphia Eagles
Bobby Engram, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Lee Evans, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Jabar Gaffney, UFA, New England Patriots
Dante’ Hall, UFA, St. Louis Rams
Devery Henderson, UFA, New Orleans Saints
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, UFA, Cincinnati Bengals
Sam Hurd, UFA, Dallas Cowboys
Brandon Jones, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Ashley Lelie, UFA, San Francisco 49ers
Shaun McDonald, UFA, Detroit Lions
Koren Robinson, UFA, Green Bay Packers
Amani Toomer, UFA, New York Giants
Roy Williams, UFA, Detriot Lions
Roydell Williams, UFA, Tennessee Titans
Cedrick Wilson, UFA, Pittsburgh Steelers

I tried asking Jerry questions on his live blog right now, and my questions never showed up. What’s up with that Jerry? I never said anything offensive here or in the live chat. All I wanted to know is who you thought the best fit at WR would be for the Raiders from all available after this Saturday’s cut…
August 27th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
LMN are you her bro or was it just the troll? He faild my test BTW

August 27th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I don’t know about him being a wimp, he seemed to be answering people pretty fast and with good questions. I just don’t know why mine didn’t show…
Anyway, no biggie…
Apparantly we are supposed to concentrate on the run against Seattle, so it should be a good evaluation game for McFadden and Bush. Given that Fargas only plays a couple of series. maybe we’ll see the Bush at FB and McF at RB combo?… that would be sweet. But most likely we will see a good amount of that new guy…Lawton. Lay the Law, Lawton!
August 27th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Dakota I wonder who it could be? Steve Corkan?

I asked Jerry, since Al Davis is boss of all things Raider, why wasn’t more space in his blog dedicated to his performance as it pertains to the Raiders winning or losing?
No answer.
August 27th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Good question KK. Jerry may not be able to expound on certain topics, or he might get banned from the facilities.
August 27th, 2008 at 3:27 pm

Brien,
Ya I know about getting deleted. It seemed the last 2 days I’ve had a couple of dozen posts deleted after others have seen them going back a couple of threads. I’m being careful for a little while.
August 27th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I also asked Jerry, what the rule were on his blog, and why was there no link where one could flag offensive comments.
No answer
August 27th, 2008 at 3:39 pm

August 27th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Jerry changed the rules and only let through the questions he was going to answer. I liked seeing what everyone had on their mind even if he didn’t answer.

I am still here, see you on the new post!
August 27th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Trevor Scott can have an impact. If you guys remember one of his first interviews, he said that Rob Ryan didn’t want him to gain weight so he could keep his speed and athleticism. He shined in the San Fran game and definately has potential.
August 27th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Ole Hillary came up big. Join the Love Train Baby!!!
August 27th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Ican’t wait till the season actually starts and everybody gets their head out of the clouds and faces reality.
August 27th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
3-13
The problem with these predictions of league-wide performance is that they are generally based on the prior year and don’t take individual match-ups into consideration.
For example, they don’t sit with a schedule and predict a winner for each game to derive a standings. In fact, often times the results they predict are mathmatically impossible.
Bottom line? Who cares?
If the Raiders sweep the Chefs and split with Denver they have 3 already. They match-up well with several of their opponents.
San Diego is losing guys left and right and LT can only hold up so long.
MR - Kiffin isn’t just following the high school mantra he is following the mantra that made Cowher consistently successful and keeps teams like Baltimore and Tenn and Jax competitive every year. BTW - IT’S THE RAIDER WAY. Madden and Flores ran and ran and ran. Stabler had 12 pass attempts in the Super Bowl. Stabler’s season long that year was a 46 yard “bomb”.
Kiffin and the offense won TOP and produced TEN 4th quarter leads! If he had a defense like Pitt or Balt or Tenn last year we go 8-8 easy.
Having Russell wing it because fans are bored of the running game is the definition of a sheep leading. Kiffin needs to do it his way - the smart way. The RAIDER way.
August 27th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
According to Jerry today, Trevor Scott is a prime practice squad candidate. “He disappeared against 1st stringers” I think Jerry said.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Brien:
6′1 and 297 isn’t big for a defensive tackle…height wise it’s below average…weight wise it’s a little light as well. He could do anything to stop McFadden in college. Dorsey has to prove himself…just to be average.
August 27th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
i see the raiders at 10-6 they lost 4 games last year by 3 points or less and with d-mac and Russell there all we need is for the line to hold up and hope the d can stop the run. we have one of the best secondarys in the leauge, we need to blitz more and get more physicall on d.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:06 am
MR
He rather throw the ball around the first game at look embarrasing on Monday night. Like three interceptions and our defense on the field for forty minutes.
Some people on here our blogs with a half witted mind. thinking too much…GET A LIFE MAN
Learn to be a fan and generate optimism..
I rather Kiffin than a big headed creep like YOU
