Final: Seahawks 23, Raiders 16
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 29th, 2008 at 10:06 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Scoring
Sea–T.J. Duckett 1-yard run (Brandon Coutu kicks PAT), 9:35
Oak–Marcel Reece 25-yard pass from Marques Tuiasosopo, 1:51
– The Raiders worked the ball to the Seattle 25-yard line at the 2-minute warming, content to work the clock with running plays as if they were up by 14 instead of down by 14.
When play resumed, Tuiasosopo threw to Marcel Reece in the right flat, with former University of Washington player covering the 25-yard distance for a touchdown to cap a 63-yard drive with 1:51 to play.
Seattle challenged the play on the contention that Reece stepped out of bounds, but the challenge was denied.
– Janikowski’s onsides kick was recovered by Seattle at the Oakland 43 with 1:47 to play. The Raiders had two timeouts left and Lane Kiffin never called them.
Thankfully.
– Dalton Bell entered at quarterback for Seattle with 6:44 to play. The final line on Seneca Wallace _ 21 of 30 for 255 yards and almost zero pressure from the Oakland defense.
– Tuiasosopo took over at quarterback wtih more than nine minutes to play following the Seattle touchdown. Andrew Walter finished 16 of 24 for 162 yards.
A 43-yard kickoff return by Jonathan Holland a roughing the passer penalty on Seattle and a pass interference call on a play in which Tuiasosopo threw into double coverage put the Raiders at the 7-yard line with first and goal.
The Raiders were at the 4 on fourth-and-goal, with Lane Kiffin opting to go for the touchdown. Tuiasosopo’s pass to Todd Watkins wasn’t close.
– Bryan Gilmore dropped a would-be touchdown pass on second-and-four, with Wallace hitting Justin Forsett for a 6-yard gain and a first-and-goal at the 2-yard line. Duckett eventuallly scored from the 1 with 9:35 to play, hopefully lessening the possibility for an overtime which would qualify as cruel and unusual punishment for all involved.
– Trevor Scott, who spent most of the evening frustrated by “Pork Chop” Womack, blew in untouched for a blindside sack of Wallace.
Oops. He got a head start. Five-yard penalty for offsides.
– Nick Sanchez was flagged for pass inteference in the end zone against Trent Shelton on the first play of the fourth quarter, giving Seattle a first-and-goal at the 1.
Wallace play-faked on first down, a play they would regret as Jon Alston forced Wallace toward the pocket with Mauricio Lopez applying pressure which resulted in a fumble, with Josh Shaw recovering at the 3-yard line. The Raiders were credited with a team sack _ their first of the game.
– The Raiders were sticking with their second-team line and Walter at quarterback starting the fourth quarter. Louis Rankin replaced Michael Bush at halfback.
– For the second time, Walter went with a hard count and managed to draw his own linemen offsides, a reverse of the intended result. Seth Wand was the offender. Tony Stewart added another false start, pushing the Raiders bakc to the 1.
Rankin managed to get the ball out to the 3 so Glenn Pakulak could punt out of his own end zone. He failed to reach the 50-yard line with a low line drive.

Now the fun begins.
Will/can Kiffin live past the bye week?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
Wand was TERRIBLE.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
good night all! Time to watch this poo!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Anybody see ESPN’s crypt keeper runnin to kiff with a big smile, pucker up!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
TIME TO TAKE THE GOVERNOR OFF THIS OFFENSIVE MACHINE! BRING ON THE BRONCOS!
BHP, pass me another cup of that cool aid…did you spike this?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Onward to the actual season. G’night nation!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Henderson was sooooo bad, as was Wand. I don’t know why, but that was really surprising to me. I was happy with the C and G play, but the tackles were horrific.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
You guys may have already discussed this, but did you see that Chad Johnson changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco…nice.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Cut time good bye archuletta
August 29th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
I liked Schillens, again, and Shields for that matter. I hope they both stick.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
What about Watkins?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Did Madsen do anything to make the team? Or are we going with Reece and Stewart?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
M. Reece practice SQ
August 29th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Lawton caught 4 passes…
August 29th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
4 passes? Did he block anyone Thec?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
I liked Watkins too, and was hoping for 6 WR. I think Watkins is a lock since he was playing STs so much.
Walker
Curry
JLH
Watkins
Schillens
Shields
Go with 2 QBs, or one less crap Olineman
August 29th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Lawton did look good
August 29th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Lawton looked pretty decent. Catching anyway. I don’t remember seeing him blocking though… anyone?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Dakota, I only heard it on the radio didnt see it…
August 29th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Dakota, I brought that up earlier. I wonder if the NFL will go for it though. According to PFT they said that league was looking into it. I don’t know how much they can do if it’s a legal name change though…funny.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
I dunno Thec … Reece and Lawton looked good, can play multiple positions, and play STs.
I’d cut Madsen and Stewart, keep Wakefield and Reece. Wakefield was originally brought in last year as a blocking TE.
Miller starts, Wakefield is the blocking TE, and Reece is 3rd TE/FB.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I was hoping we keep 6. May or may not be bring anyone in which at this poin tis okay by me. Want us to develop our young WR…Lofton must be doing something right
August 29th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Lawton hdhnds and was making some SP tackles, looked good
August 29th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I don’t think there really is a guy named Luke Lawton. I think that was Tom Rathman finding a way to get back on the field!!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Jhill, agreed….Listening to Kiffin….
August 29th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
lol… nice OakGlenn
August 29th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
11680,
If a Judge accepts the name change the NFL will have to accept it or they will get their assez sued off.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Williams is gone ….
Unless Al saves him, of course.
But I will say Ekuejebah(sp) played well at MLB. Alston was all over the place, but he is clearly too light in the ass to play LB. He needs another 15lbs.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Looks like the 49ers will be our only victory til we see Atlanta in week 8!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Chad Ocho Cinco is trying to pull a “Prince”. He feels if he legally changes his name to something trippy he can get out of his contract.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
yeah alston got trucked….
August 29th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Luke Lawton had a good game cause Kiffin hasn’t screwed up his thinking yet!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Okay, I am going to get one game of madden 09 in and then watch the game on DVR so I can FF through the bad parts…might only take me 15 minutes to watch this game from the way it was described here on the blog, lol.
Night all.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Here’s a meaningless thought… a lot of teams that do bad in preseason end up doing pretty well during the regular season.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
WTF the denver game not sold out??????
August 29th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
Joseph or Shaw?
I liked Joseph’s power and how he held up against double teams.
I also like Shaw’s speed and quickness. Saw a bit of Sapp in him though, as I thought he tried to use his speed and ended up outta position on some plays.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
I would play you Dakota, but I don’t play Raider fans. I never play with anyone else, so a black shirts-white shirts game is not in order.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
11680, you bring up a really good point. There’s an old expression in the NFL, and that’s if you’re winning your preseason games, you’re not looking at enough players.
Jhill, I really liked Shaw but Joseph played well tonite. Tough call.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Looking forward to next year’s draft, we need 2 tackles and a MLB in the worst way. I’m happy with our WR crew, so far.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
TRUE - remember we went what 4-1 (or undef) in preseason with the bed & breakfast crew. then went 2-14 pfft so yeah, there is something to that preseason win/loss, regular season loss/win thang…
August 29th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
We are going to start the season with 3 rookie WR’s.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
like the b&b preseason look wasn’t just preseason vanilla , that was the whole offensive set.. !
lawlz
August 29th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
I have to say, if Higgins keeps playing at least as he did today, and keeps improving at a steady pace through the season, he can be a pretty decent WR by the end of the season. Just in time for the playoffs…lol (I wish)
August 29th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
We should have taken spikes….too late now
I like we have some young WR’s look like they could step in and play. I am okay with it also. A lot of the folks on the blog was bashing Lofton for dropped balls. wonder if he gets cred for developing the rooks. If we keep 3 means he has had a direct impact in my humble opinion….
August 29th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
O.K. this question is for Thec. No offense to anyone else but it sounds like he has been on this blog for awhile. I would also like to know what every one else thinks on this topic. Q: with our 1 and 3 record and the negative look of our 2nd and 3rd stringers; are you honestly more worried now than you were when we went 4 and 0 with shell/ bed and breakfast? Were you super possitive that year? Honestly I kinda was but I am more so this year.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
All tonight showed us was that we have very little talent available after the initial 22. This is especially true on the D side of the house.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
I dunno about Spikes …
If Hartwell couldn’t make it, I dunno that Spikes could have. Colvin got cut from the Texans. These old guys, I starting to see, are available for a reason. We need a young stud MLB to go with the rest of our young team. We need to find someone in the 2nd or 3rd rd that is a tackling machine, and attacks the line of scrimmage.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
In the BnB days, I was positive and feeling really good because we went 4-1, and then I felt like I had just gotten kicked with a steel toe boot.
This year we went 1-3 and I’m still feeling good and having a good positive vibe about this season. I just hope that boot never comes back…lol
August 29th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Can you guys say TOP 5 draft pick AGAIN?
August 29th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
I saw Mario Henderson grow a lot tonight, So did Trevor Scott.
Kids I’d like to keep:
Darrick Brown #39
Marcel Reece #45
Gunhiem #97
Rankin #41
Adam Archeuleta #42
Lawton #44
Shields #84
Schelins #81
Watkins #19
Walter looks like he should be starting in this league. Keeping the TE Stewart is a must, his blocking demands it. DMC was starting to hit stride. Rankin is a player so is Marcel Reece, Reece could be another Shannon Sharpe.
Josh Shaw is fo real. As soon as Tyvon Branch gets that cast off he is going to be a difference maker.
Has anyone noticed that JLH might turn out to be one of the better return men in the league, the kid is just so fast and as a WR has great hands. JLH and Watkins could turn out to be better than anyone thought.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Arman Shields looks like he can play. From what very limited action I saw of him, I did like what he brings.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Positive Vibe….dude…are you blind…we ain’t winning a game until Atlanta in week 8!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
The only thing that has me skittish is injuries. Our 2nd and 3rds look awful. Because of the weopons we have and Kiffins O we will be okay from that perspective. I like the Walker to JRUSS connect a whole lot. JLH has stepped up, rook WR’s look promising. So to answer your question no not worried we are an 8-8 minimum team. Thas my prediction so I am sticking with it.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Trevor Scott has a future. If he can bulk up a little, sit back and learn, he could be a player.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Man we need to keep all 6 WRS in the worst way let them learn and gain experience. we allways try to get other players, let develope our own they have the talent
August 29th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I am the seed that of doubt which is already present in everyone’s mind.
This seed will GROW out of the pure and total knowledge that Kiffin left his cushy college job to take employment for which he was not ready.
This guy is not a leader, and within a month will be fired, never to be a Head Coach AGAIN. Way to coach for the $$$ LAME!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I am just not seeing it with Schelins. Shields and Watkins I like.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Doesnt matter if you see it or not Chaz will make the team.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Well said JB !
For those of you keeping score its hard to win when your playing 22 against 53! I couldn’t win with 90% of this Raiders roster on Madden! Say what you will “oh its just a stupid video game”.
Since the return to Oaktown the talent pool is very SHALLOW!!!!!!!!!!!
August 29th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
#39 ???
The dude that keeps getting beat in practice, and in games?
He’s outta here!
Mario Henderson was getting beat all over the field. They stopped running plays his way. Everything, slight exaggeration, was to the right. Of course he did get beat on every single play, but there were at least 6 HORRIBLE plays I saw from the guy.
And before tonight, I actually thought he was playing well.
Scott is going to be NICE!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
8-8
You people are blind….
This is the NFL…our team has no confidence whasoever!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
The Raiders are always a date late and a DOLLAR SHORT!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Kalimba Edwards and Trevor Scott are freakish athlete great size and athleticism.
Tired of Madsen and Sam Williams. Goodbye! they just haven’t developed.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I totally disagree with the 22 starters comments.
These guys arent starters but played good:
Rankin
MBUSH
WATKINS
Shields
Chaz
Branch
Lawton
DMAC
AW
Branch
Reece
August 29th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
“A DAY LATE”
August 29th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
But Thec were you more excited that year than you are right now? Jon Grudens wife you shouldn’t let the herpies and warts get you so negative. there is help and ointments. keep your chin up buckaroo!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
The Raiders talent is just fine….
OUR Coaching staff sucks!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Edwards
Scott
August 29th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Maybe the worst staff in the league…
Maybe!
Atlanta…Miami…may be worse…
August 29th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
UH hello ! You have MB so you use your 4th pick to draft DMC??????????
Yeah is DMC going to line up as fifth linemen to stop the run!?
August 29th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Rankin is getting a lot of run all pre season …
Just can’t get excitied about someone I know won’t EVER see the field. Give the roster spot to someone else.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Atlanta and Miami definately have idiotic owners
August 29th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
MR er, grudens wife, (the whiner shill) is just giddy cause his whiners were tied with the dischargers.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Is Lamont Jordan going to make New Englands roster?
That’s all I want to know about tomorrow!
Tells me everything I already know!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Jon Grudens wife that seed you were talking about is not doubt its just another flair up. just gettum frozen off!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
I dont know if its excitment or expectations. Of course I had expectations of us winning. I expect more from this team.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
As I posted earlier, I thought the difference in this last preseason game was Seneca Wallace had four years in Holmgrens system and knew exactly where to go with the ball. Walter is on his 3rd coach in his same 4 years and actually played fairly well. That means our coaching staff have got our guys pretty well prepared.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
On the 2 min drill Mario Henderson was poised and showed real potential. Sure he’s not the finished product but overall he is showing signs of beiing a talent.
To say he was getting beat all over the field Jhill I question. I thought the kid showed promise.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
LOL….I wish you were Lane Kiffin, that’s okay……I’m patient!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Thec thats kinda how I feel, just cant deel with the losing anymore. As you know being a Raider fan the past 5 years has been quite taxing. I cant wait for the day we are great again and Patriot fans can call us band wagoners! The day will come.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Ltr NATION 1
August 29th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Denever is going to rush for 300 yards in Oakland on Monday night football…..
Russell might have a decent game, same with Walker…
PREDICTION
Denver 31
Oakland 20
August 29th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
We will wwin a SB in 3 years…
August 29th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
I’m rooting for the kid BHP, don’t get me wrong. Tonight, overall, I was disappointed. It’s on the NFLN again now if you want to check dude out again. Again, at least 6 plays, run and pass, where he was simply looking clueless.
We need someone with better feet at LT, as well as someone who can attack. Harris and Henderson seem to do too much back pedaling instead of laying a hat on someone and holding their ground.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Which will lead to an 0-4 start
followed by a bye week and the firing of Mr. Kiffin
August 29th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
ltr
August 29th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
I’m am the most loyal Raider fan in this country…
WHY?
Because I speak the truth!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Soon enough, I won’t be a fan…I’ll be coaching this team…
Later fellas
August 29th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
WHAT TIME ARE THE CUTS DUE TOMORROW????
August 29th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
I personally think AW has shown that he can play, given that the players around him allow him to. It would be good to keep him as the back up just in case. You never know with this line.
But it also brings up the possibility that was discussed earlier. How much trade value does he have now?
But if we do trade him, then who will be have as backup? Tui? I don’t think so… Culpepper?…. I don’t think he would, who else is out there?
August 29th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Who will be the five Wide Recvrs????
I like Schilens and Shields!! to go with Walker,Curry and Higgins!!!
What say you??
August 29th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
BHP
The game I saw showed me that Henderson is either lazy or without adequate talent/desire. He was a revolving door out there tonight. Training camp reports indicated that he apparently, for whatever reasons, was not willing to do what is necessary to get to the next level. Yes, I too hate wasting a 3rd round pick but, it’s not our first time nor will it be our last. I say let Henderson go along with Sam Williams and a bunch of other never-gonna-be NFL players and focus on those left who are willing to do what it takes to get it done. Enough with the scholarships.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
Whoever said they don’t like Schillens, you’re f’n crazy. He’s been the most impressive receiver in the preseason. Him and Watkins have been pretty damn solid and Schillens had a great game tonight. I’m real excited about Schillens and if Shields stay healthy, those two can be our starting receivers in 3 or 4 years! After Curry and Walker are gone
August 29th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Jhill he was in on at least 55 plays, and it’s his first real action at the LT spot. I feel he acquitted himself well. Now he needs to futher develope but remember this kid has only been playing Tackle a total of 3 years and football a total of 5 years. H started at LT his senior year bfore that he never played it.
I think what happens is yu guy’s read Jerry’s reports and assume he’s right IMO the kid is developing fine with such limited experience. He looks like he could turn out to be a very good player.
Also I was already watching the replay.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Cuts Should be in by 3pm our time!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Hey Duffman you need to go see a doctor asap. sorry bro!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
Trevor Scott is a good football player. He has shown so much gowth in such a short time. Chazz Schillens looks decent. Arman shields made a lot of mistakes and dropped a few passes; however, he made a nice one handed grab.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Brian,
We cant keep all of them!!
Either Shields, Shilens or Watkins!!
We will keep 2 out of 3!!
I hope we could keep them all……But I suspect Kiffin will keep only 2 of them!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
We have to keep Shields….Too much talent there!!
Only his first appearance!!
I hope we keep all of our 2008 draft choices!!
Shields and Shilens!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
JB if you think this ki looked lazy maybe you need to look again, lol… he was leading plays 30 yards downfield. I’m not sure you guy’s understand what to look for.
I gaurantee you Kiffin was very pleased with the play of this kid tonight and so was Cable.
And I haven’t heard a word from either to say that but I know what I’m talking about. The kid played well.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Trevor is a player!!
Reminds me of Tyler Brayton, but with a MOTOR!!!
He’s only going to get better!!
I think he’s a keeper!!
Out of todays entire defense…We should keep Scott and Archuleta!!! I was not impressed by anyone else!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
It’s almost like you expect another Art Shell. The kis is still learning the position. You’d be crazy to cut this kid…………….CRAZY
August 29th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
BHP
Guess we’ll know more about how Kiffin/Cable feels about him tomorrow.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
BHP…Who are you talking about??
Henderson???
We have to keep him….!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
I know one thing……It was at this time last year when they dropped the BOMB SHELL when the KID from Georgia…3rd player being cut!!!
Who will it be this year???
August 29th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Yes we will, but I don’t jhave t wait until tomorrow it’s obvious. You guy’s are biased by these stupid blog reports. That kid is very talented he’s just raw but great Oline coaches can work wonders with raw tal;ent like him. As long as they see he wants it the rest is just coaching. If Cable is what I think he is, this one is easy.
Again Mario has to want it. the talent is there.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
BHP…
Letting go of Henderson is not an option!!
We got to let this guy develop!!
Tackles are very hard to find these days…especially good ones!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
It’s interesting to note that players cut or released from the Raider squad rarely land and stick on another team. That speaks volumes to the actual level of real talent available as back-ups. That also holds true for some starters like Stuart Schweigert and a few others.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
Henderson stunk at first, but got much better as the game wore on.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Glory, I know, and especially guy’s as athletic as Mario is. If he continues to work and listen he could be very good.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
JB …
Your’e right…
Remember all those wide recievers from last yr…..Carlos Francis…Alvis Whitted …and Doug Gabriel…Not to mention Mike Williams….I think there all out of football!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
I waited all night for the first stupid post from BHP, and it didn’t take that long.
Post 50 Youngesters he wants to keep
Well where to begin Archeuleta ISN’T a YOUNGESTER he’s been in the league for 5 years now.
As for Darrick Brown, Brown is a track star not a football player, Marcel Reece is a 5th stringer on most teams.
For a self called Expert you aren’t really that good at evaulating players.
How did our 3rd down RB Darren McFadden do tonight in your expert opinion? And how about looking again at Mario Henderson, who cost us at least 3 overthrows and 3 underthrows while he was consistantley getting run over and around by 2nd, 3rd and 4th string Seahawk Defensive Ends.
Let me guess BHP, Henderson is the next sure fire pro bowl tackle for the Raiders. Wow would we be in serious serious troube with you running this team, or evaulating talent. After all you think DMC is a 3rd down back, and the 3rd best RB on the roster. Wow!
Question for you how did the UW do the past few seasons with stars like Reese and Rankin on their team?
August 29th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
BHP…
Mario is not going anywhere!!
There is a BUNCH of other guys here who will see the door before Henderson!!
It’s important for Kiffin to keep young Olinemen on this team……or it will be a loooong season for JaMarcus!!!
We cant have that!!! We will go as far as our O line takes us!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
I’d like to keep Henderson but I don’t know that we have the luxury to lock up a roster spot on a maybe sometime in the future guy. Somehow I don’t think Kiffin can afford to be that generous. Of course, if AD wants him to stick, he will. Otherwise, he may be out on the street sooner than many would expect.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
yes Henderson did improve as the game went on, because the Seahawks brought in their 4th and 5th string players how could Henderson get much worse.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
BHP,
How did our 3rd string 3rd down back do, you know DMC?
August 29th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
i heard black whore priest likes to masterbate alot during the day…kinda weird.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
JB….
Which tackles would you keep??
August 29th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
What a bunch of crap.
1. The team takes after the coach “LAME Kiffin” Hope he’s gone by game 6.
2. Gregg Knapp is horrible. How does he keep getting jobs?
3. Tackling requires using arms not shoulders
4. Wide recievers need to actually separate from defenders
5. Pass blocking means you actually stop someone from getting to the QB
6. The object of playing the line is to get to the QB or Tackle the runner, not hug the other guy on the line so the QB has all day or the runner gets 5yds per carry.
7. And finally, if your offense doesn’t do some motion, it really doesn’t make the defense think alot or move for that matter.
SAME OLD CRAP DIFFERENT YEAR..
I KNOW BLAME AL NOT THE HIGH SCHOOL COACH KIFFIN.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
#105 Got it, we got to keep the underachieving Tackle, who is not motivated to play, who is lazy in the weight room, and has questionable desire as to whether he wants to even play or not. YEP I say keep him at all costs. After all we need more players like Calvin Branch, Tyler Brayton, etc.., I could give you a dozen Mario Henderson’s and 2 dozen or so better players who will most likely be put on waivers by other teams.
As for Henderson, Now I know your a big AD Fan, but do also scout players for him too? Maybe that’s our problem.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Glory
Harris, Greene, McQuistan, Wakefield & possibly Henderson, if there’s room. I say Wakefield only because he seems to be able to play whatever position he’s needed at.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
JB…
I assure you, man!! If we let Henderson Go…He will be picked up right away!!!
We have to be patient!! We cant do the mistake of letting go of future TALENT!! We should keep him for atleast this season!! If by next yr he has not improved….Then I would say …Cut him loose!! But not yet!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
All my Raider buddies keep telling me that we should let go of Higgins….And replace him with who???
We have to let them develop!!
Higgins will come around….And so will Mario…
If we were willing to keep guys like Schweigert, Brayton and Doug Gabriel around for 5 yrs….We should be willing to give these guys atleast 3 seasons!!
Dont you think???

#131 You’ll have to ask our resident expert, but
1. Gregg Knapp got his current job because of AD, AD is a huge Knapp fan, he interviewed him before he hired BHP’s coach (Art Shell). Yes I remember BHP when you went on the Raiders post game show and proclaimed that Art Shell was the coach the Raiders needed and that he would bring us back to being a great team again. I guess you forgot what you said, I remember you felt Shell was the answer.
3. Tackling requires using Arms. If I remember correctly “Lame Kiffin” wanted to can “Lame Ryan”, but AD would not let him. Can’t blame “Lame” for that one.
4. The WR coach was an Al Davis Hire, not hired by Kiffin I think he’s on a coaching schloarship I think his name is James Lofton. If receivers cannot seperate how is that Kiffins fault? Its either Lofton’s fault or the fact that our receivers just aren’t that good. Didn’t Kiffin try and tell everyone that?
5. But we have Mario Henderson, the next future HOF tackle
Well as for blaming Kiffin, I will blame him if IN REGULAR SEASON WE CONTINUE TO PLAY A VANILLA OFFENSE. BUT I cannot blame Kiffin for missing tackles or poor receiver techniques when Kiffin wanted to fire the DC and wasn’t allowed too, and Kiffin never actually approached or asked to have Lofton hired. As for Knapp its known for a fact that Davis Interviewed him for the HC job before he hired Norval.

#135 Schweigert, Brayton and Gabriel lasted 5 years? Are you sure? BTW how are they doing now. Mario Henderson is not a good player, never will be a good player ever. Yeah we need to waste a roster spot on a tackle who might develop in say 5 years. Meanwhile we pass up or release better players in the meantime. I could give you 20 Henderson type offensive lineman right now. Besides the fact that we drafted him, give me one reason we should keep him, if say a BETTER PLAYER AT TACKLE was available.
August 30th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Kiffin is only here to audition for next yr with another team!!!
He’s a gonner, man!!
Next yr,, it will be Lofton/Ryan combo!!
or Maybe Knapp??
Kiffin is outta here after this season…THATS for sure!!
August 30th, 2008 at 12:04 am
I say keep Mario…..And cut him loose if he does’nt come thru this season!!
It’s not like he was a first rounder like Gallery…..
If we can keep Gallery, we surely could keep Henderson!!
August 30th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Brien……
You remind me of PVT PILE from FULL METAL JACKET!!!
You F’ing A-HOLE!!!
G’NITE ALL!!!

I agree with what you said in this post. AD wants either Knapp/Lofton or Ryan to be the next HC. My guess is he really wants Lofton as HC and Knapp as OC and Ryan as DC. He can control Ryan and Lofton.
As for post #139
There’s a big difference imo that being that Gallery was a high first rounder a sure fire player, who HAS STARTED every single game since day 1. Henderson wasn’t a high pick was an underachiever in college, a player who had and still has according to reports a work ethic problem. And has never started maybe 1 game as an NFL player. He’s a project a backup, he’s nowhere near the class of a legitmate starter.

This game really helped Schillens, Lawton, Higgins, and Scott. Shields made a play but he looked inconsistent and could probably sneak onto the practice squad. Ideally we’d put Scott on the practice squad as well, give him a year of coaching and the chance to add some weight because he got eaten up a lot of the time as well, but since we cut spires and will carry 4 DE’s, there is one spot open after Burgess, Richardson, and Edwards. If we see a decent vet get cut tomorrow, we may pick him up for that 4th spot - we really do need a guy that can stuff the run and hold the point of attack for that 4th spot because we have nobody that can do that except for Richardson (Burges and Edwards are both Speed guys, as is scott at this stage of his career).
Anyway, DMAC looked great, those two 20+ yard runs are exactly what our running game and offense needs - our passing game will be conservative this year, so we need some explosive plays out of DMAC to make our offense a little more dynamic. Schillens really showed up tonight and deserves a spot. I laughed at the pick after the draft, because he seemed like another size/speed Al Davis project, and his college highlights at SDSU just consisted of him running go routes past weak competition in the WAC. Now that he’s gotten his chance, he’s looking good, and I bet a lot of that has to do with Lofton. You can really see his technique - getting his head turned around looking for the ball right after he makes his break, getting out of bounds twice at the end of the half, and making plays running across the middle of the field. Good Stuff. He may be our #3 WR by the bye week, if not sooner. He also has the speed and size to develop into a #1 WR, and possibly a #2 this season, which would allow us to move Curry to #3 where his skill in finding holes against zone coverage is really effective for us. We’ll have to see if any vet WR become available, because other than Walker and Curry, nobody else has done anything in this league which is why losing Carter was so bad for us.
All with a grain of salt, because it was just the preseason, but schillens was better than Watkins, Shields, Holland, Higgins, and whoever else was out there tonight, and he looked really fluid.

The Monday night opener probably won’t be on TV due to lack of a sellout. The Raiders didn’t play well enough in the pre-season games to get people excited enough to go out and buy tickets in this tough economy. They figure they will just watch on TV. Wrong! Unless the Raiders play well in the first few games most home games will be blacked out.

Highly doubtful, unless a team is really really despreate for an underachieving project lineman who is at best 3-4 years away from being an average tackle in the NFL.
August 30th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Here’s a bet Mario Henderson will be out of the NFL within 3 years. Having never acheived anything more then the status of Chad Slaughter the last great project we had.
August 30th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Schillens looks like a player. Shields might have some potential but might not be ready to play this year. He really botched that first pass. This team is really a big question mark. I don’t think anyone really knows if they will win 4 games or ten. My guess is 7-9.

Very frustrating to see little or no progress to QB Andrew Walter and for that matter Tui. Raiders are betting the ranch on Jamarcus . . . I hope it works. This season is gonna be a toss up, too many new faces that are not “in-sync” with one another. A championship team is in total syn with one another. And with “The Godfather” only giving Kiffin one more chance, the future is murky. Al Davis is singlehandely destroying the Raider Myustique YEAR by YEAR . . . and that is coming from a Raider Fan. NEDD PLAN FOR succession, what he’s gonna manage & own the team @ 81 years old???!!!!!
August 30th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Read interesting post about almost none of our “cut” guys stick to other clubs or get jobs elsewhere. When you are one of the worst teams in the league, Al Davis needs to understand, that your option become less and less, the desire to play here, the desire foranyone to come here. We have bred an attitude of defeat here for the past 5 years, and I know I went to the Superbowl in Jan 2003. Davis is losing it and is chasing a shadow with his 1980′S style Art Shell fottball, (what a complete JOKE that was for a hire). The decisions are getting worse, the team is losing it’s IMPORTANT MYSTIQUE that powers the NATION, GM and OWNER NEVER works, especially when the guy is 80 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!! Running an NFL club!! Davis just keeps changing things around never allowing any momentum to build, Fire Al Davis, have Larry Ellison (asshole) buy the club and have him demand Excellence . . . something we have not produced but ignored for years now.
