Lawton in, Thomas out
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 11:30 am in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders waived linebacker Robert Thomas while injured, clearing the way to bringing aboard free agent fullback Luke Lawton.
By being waived injured, Thomas agreed to be paid for a specific period of time agreed upon by the team and the player, during which he will receive medical treatment until healthy enough to play.
Thomas’ fate under his current contract was sealed the moment Ricky Brown became the starting strong side linebacker. At $2 million, Thomas had the highest salary of any linebacker on the team. He sustained a dislocated kneecap last week but was walking without a limp and may be healthy enough to sign with another team soon.
Thomas would also be eligible to re-sign with the Raiders.
In other news, the Raiders dropped punter Glenn Pakulak from the practice squad and picked up Derrick Gray, a defensive end who failed to make the 53-man roster.
Shane Lechler was booming punts during the warm-up, drills and special teams sessions open to the media.
Cornerback DeAngelo Hall and safety Michael Huff, both who missed Sunday’s practices due to deaths in the family, both returned. Safety Hiram Eugene (hip) was practicing, and Tommy Kelly (flu) was suited up and appeared ready to begin practice.
Linebacker Jon Alston, who wore No. 47 during the preseason, took Thomas’ number 55.
More to come later . . .

How did I know MR has been here all morning?

LMAO
Oh, and post 628 from last thread aint me either.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:39 am
I’ll be honest as usual: Lawton sucks as a blocking FB. I hope they keep looking and something tells me this guy is insurance in case they can’t snag a blocking FB.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:39 am
Still no, DT added to the squad?
After the three we have, are all at the oxygen tank. At the begining of the 4th. qtr. Who the hell is going to play? Is Robbo going to suit up at half time?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 am
Terrapin-or until Reese gets up to par on picking up blitzes.

are we done yet?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:44 am
Not being a downer but this pick makes the lelie pick even more strange.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:44 am
Dakota, repost: I didn’t crawl out of bed until 11am PT. Don’t waste our time by reposting your comments that have already been debunked.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:45 am
Dakota, do you honestly think you’re funny when posting these pictures?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:46 am
I still think we should have looked at Moran Norris, but I think Lawton’s pass catching abilities won him the job.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:46 am
Kinda dissapointed that Robert Thomas got cut and Sam (he never pushed for the job) Williams is still on the roster. Hopefully we can work out some kind of arrangement that gets him back on our roster, and not anyone elses. Remember his explosivness against Pittsburgh. The scholarships need to end!! AL
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:46 am
The only good news here, is that Lechler is healthy.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:47 am
REPOST
Jeez! There are a bunch of pessimistic “realists” here. You know what I hope the Raiders lose so that KK, MR, and FIRE KIFFIN, can be happy and tell us how right they are about everything.
Truth is that this team is much better than last year. I am looking for an improved team that is flying under everyone’s radar. I think we are going to surprise a lot of people.
One other note, I understand if some of you are pessimistic by nature. But it really isn’t healthy and you will die a lot sooner than an optimistic person.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:47 am
What is the vet minimum now 750k?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:49 am
Well….we all sort of knew it…Sam Williams is a Davis untouchable.
I realize Thomas’ salary/injury contributed to the decision but……Williams SUCKS!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:50 am
Henderson is Kiffin’s scholarship project just like Williams is for Al.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:50 am
you seem to forget Williams was the starter over Thomas before he got hurt last year.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:51 am
Is it Monday yet? I’m getting REAL tired of reading about this…..I can’t wait to see ShanaRAT make that face he makes….You know the one where it looks like someone is holding a shovel full of donkey crap right under his nose. I just want to see some Oakland Raider Football.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:52 am
Repost:
Raidernathan, we’re only better on paper. The games aren’t played on paper. They’re played on a football field, where we looked like crap all pre season. We’ll move the chains with our running game and Miller but we won’t put up points. Our defense is as bad vs. the run as ever. Our pass defense is hit and miss, as always. Long story short, our D will give up points.
And, if I’m a realist, what does that make you? Living in fantasy land…
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:53 am
Dakota that is a funny Pic!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:53 am
Wow, I never would have thought I would ever, in a million years, utter these words.
Is it, MONDAY yet??
Just, goes to show you. Never say, never.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 am
Mr how is the script coming along?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 am

September 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 am
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggh me maties
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:54 am
Sith Lord Davis, what do you care what the vet minimum is? It should be minimum wage in your view, right?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:55 am
Brien do you think we could get a 1st round pick for Al Davis or is he on scholarship?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:55 am
MR did you have fun yesterday?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:55 am
I hope Hall and Huff’s minds are in the game. isnt that why Sands said he wasnt into the games 100% last year?
any news on Hall’s hand? i havent heard him crying about it in the past few days.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:56 am
Hall and Huff will be ready
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:57 am
RaiderNathan, I agree, this is a much better team than last year. I expect this team to be better than most of these pessimmistic trolls believe. I don’t think 10 wins is out of the question, sometimes you just need to get a few breaks, and we’re sure due our share of the breaks. Ignore the trolls and prepare to win. It’s not just wishful thinking, it’s what’s expected, JUST WIN BABY!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:57 am
MR, I care because they can sign two or three players at postitions of need for what they were paying Robert Thomas. If you have to work for minimum wage at your part time job to pay your dues don’t take it out on anyone else.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:58 am
IRA…….I doubt a first rounder….You don’t wanna trade Al to an AFC contender we would be kicking ourselves for the next 10 years if we do so
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:58 am
Anyone hear the Broncos picked up Shaw?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:59 am
Thx Ira.
And Dakota = debunked by MR? muhahahahahaha
I’m big funny. Here blogging all day, laughing too. Really.

September 3rd, 2008 at 12:01 pm

September 3rd, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Ok play dumb
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:07 pm
You gonna break my legs MR if I don’t join a union?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Denver has trash run defense no john lynch and still ahve dre bly……….i’m not worried about denver beating us monday night at all
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Ira, good question. I’m still mulling over the ending. I start my scripts from the middle. The breaking point of the story. Then work outward from there. The breaking point of this story is when Glenn meets Artie Gigantino, and is mistreated by him. Then Glenn decides to get even with Artie by taking his job. BTW, Bruce Vilanch’s agent just got back to us and said Bruce would like to read for the role of “Dakota”. Everything’s falling into place.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Yes, I think the Raiders will win monday Night.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:08 pm
From PFT:
A strange thing happened to running back Rudi Johnson when he visited with the Detroit Lions on Monday.
Someone stole his stuff.
Seriously.
Specifically, and as we’re told by a reliable source (i.e., not the person who told Mort that Joey Harrington had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Monday, or the person who told John Clayton that Todd Bouman had agreed to terms with the Ravens on Tuesday), Johnson left his bags outside CEO Matt Millen’s office while he met with team officials and, ultimately, worked out a deal with the team.
So when Johnson came back to get his bags, they were nowhere to be found. Johnson and Millen were stumped.
Enter the eye in the sky.
The team checked the videotapes generated by the team’s in-house surveillance system, and they quickly identified the culprit.
So who might it have been? None other than Tatum Bell, who lost his gig with the Lions after Rudi arrived.
Per the source, Bell took the bags to the house of a female acquaintance. When confronted on the matter, Bell offered up some cockamamie story that he thought the bags belonged to someone he knew. The girl, however, said that she hadn’t seen Bell in several months and he showed up out of the blue and asked her to keep the bags for a while.
Johnson has retrieved the bags, and it’s our understanding that charges won’t be pressed.
Tatum apparently didn’t know that he was being monitored.
Fortunately, the displaced running back wasn’t Najeh Davenport.
lol
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Tatum Bell is pitiful
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:11 pm
I understand the Robert Thomas cut, but not to bring in FB Lawton? Are we blind that we couldn’t sign FB Moran Norris as our blocking fullback? Whoever is handling personnel decisions is not getting it right at all. In Lawton we get the same type of fullback that Justin Griffith is. Why we keep putting the same type of players on our team year after year! I hope we’re bringing in LB Donnie Spragan for depth at LOLB. What’s up with this Chad Jackson news that he was in for a visit yesterday?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
And MR will be played by the Olsen Sisters….Great movie. Maybe MR is just a shortened version of MR Ed…That part could also be played by John Elway, and Joe Montana could be played by Barry Manilow….
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Lawton is the same fullback as Justin Griffith? Have you ever watched football my friend?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Interesting…….something smells funny?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
At least fantasyland is better than your dark dreary world. You should come visit fantasyland sometime. It’ll make you feel better.
To me, the Raiders didn’t look like crap in the preseason either, although I only watched the first half of the Titans and Cardinals game.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
lol post 64!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:14 pm
MR would be better played by Andy Milonakis
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:14 pm
With #44 on Lawton looks like the second coming of Tom Rathman.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:14 pm
John Elway’s teeth, you seem to have a thing for horses. Let’s just hope it stops at jokes about people looking like them.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:18 pm
MR you don’t want to read the truth, I know it hurts you deeply that the Raiders will win the opener and your unions are loosing ground convincing the rest of us of their usefullness but your anger seems more deeply rooted.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:18 pm
” The Raiders say Darrin McFadden won’t return punts this year. But he spends an awful lot of time catching punts with Johnnie Lee Higgins during Special Teams practice.”—-Jason Jones…
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:19 pm
More from PFT:per Mlive.com, Johnson confirms that Bell took two duffel bags from the team’s locker room on Monday, and that when he got the bags back on Tuesday, items were missing.
“Underwear, socks, credit cards and money. He left my money clip with no money in it,” said Johnson. “He should’ve taken the clip, too. It’s quite stupid if you ask me.”
Johnson also said that he saw Bell take his bags on surveillance tapes at the team’s facility.
“All of this happened after he got released and came in and got some stuff out of his locker,” Johnson said. “That’s when he scooped the bags up, some real shyster, conniving stuff.”
Johnson confirmed that he won’t press charges. “I’m not going to the police for this one,” he said. “I don’t need anybody else, I can handle it.
“He tried to make up some excuse, he tried to blame it on somebody else so I didn’t try to entertain something that didn’t make any sense. He tried to make up an excuse. He said some girl had got it and took it to somebody’s house. The story didn’t make any sense so I didn’t pay it any attention.
“He knows how I feel about it, trust me. He knows how I feel about it and it’s nothing positive. He said it was a mixup. It is what it is.”
Bell could be signing with the Texans. Coincidentally, the Texans host the Lions on October 19.
We have a feeling that, if Tatum is on the team, Rudi will be bringing only a toothbrush. And a crate of whoop-ass.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:19 pm
The Raiders are not winning the opener…..LOL
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:19 pm
MR, I’m sure you’re right, but I’d hate to think about how many horse movies you have in your private filmmaker/screenwriter collection. And I doubt thsat any of them have titles like: My Friend Flicka, Man O War, or even the Best of MR Ed. Oh wait a minute, let’s not forget that Zebra movie with Frankie Muniz
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Ashy Larry is too short to play me buddy and doesn’t have any scalp…….Try again
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
We better sign atleast 2 more defensive players to our current roster. We need more LB & DT depth. I say bring in LB Donnie Spragan & DT that Seahawks recently released about 2 weeks ago.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm
77 wasn’t me either, FYI. But I agree this time…
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Obviously MR is at it again……..copycatting is flattery…….keep on little guy keep on someday you will get there
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Sith Lord, I’m sure there are plenty of political blogs where your views would be perfectly on topic. I know how badly you want to get the message out that unions are connected to Al Qaeda, but it’s really boring on a football blog.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 pm
come on MR keep the copycat thing going……..I’ll call you Harry Connick Jr. today
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Like the real Brien knows who Connick Jr. is, or can spell his name…
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Some times I just hate Al =) why do we keep Sam Williams, I know his salary is only about 700K, but still?!
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Brien, sorry. When I thought of you, your rants, your overall persona in here, Ashy Larry was just first to come to mind. I’ll try and fine someone a little taller and with hair. We’ll try Urkel’s people.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Dakota -
You are going to be in MR’s movie? Wow that’s huge. One question, is it a snuff film?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
” When I left the field, Javon Walker hadn’t made it out to practice yet. He is reportedly dealing with a hamstring injury.” —-Jason Jones.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Name was spelled right and named a movie…..what more evidence do you need MR
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Too funny…love when trolls get sloppy…
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:26 pm
I think the part of Jerry McDonald should be played by John Goodman.
Other ideas for roles and actors would be:
Oakglenn - Andy Dick
Brien - Steve Carell
Dakota - Jim Belushi
SilverNblack666 - Jeff Bridges (The Dude)
Sith Lord Davis - Tom Cruise
MR - Paul Rubens
Ira Matthews - Silent bob without jay
what do you think?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:28 pm
For those harping on keeping Sam Williams because he is an AD “untouchable”; you all fail to realize he is a much better special teams player then Thomas and cheaper. As Jerry said once Brown won the SLB position thomas and his salary were expendable.
For all those harping that we only have 3 DTs; Fred Wakefield will serve as the 4th DT as you could see him playing LDT for much of the Seattle game. He was rather effective to. I’d rather have his versatility and motor out there as the 4th DT then a bust like William Joseph.
For all those bashing the Lelie signing; Oak lost their deep threat in Carter and had to replace him with an established deep threat. Kif wanted more experience so he went and got what was on the market. Its tough to lean on guys who have never caught an NFL pass.
Some of you have to realize the coaches see everything…we see nothing but preseason. Have some patience and wait for it all to unfold during the season. If it blows up then we can second guess.
One Nation Baby…
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:29 pm
oh yeah Raiderdogg will be played by Nicholas Cage!
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Steve Carell hahahahahahahahahahahaha that was funny IRA
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:29 pm
I am from Frisco and I just got married to my lifetime partner Ralph. Ok, I don’t call him dawg or homey, I call him honey. And no, we don’t have AIDS.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Dakota = Jim Belushi? Dream on. Bruce Vilanch is a lock.
Sith Lord = Tom Cruise? Tom Cruise is still doing damage control over gay rumors and doesn’t want to play any gay characters. In OAK GLENN, Sith Lord is a hard core, anti union right winger with a secret little alternative lifestyle. Cruise can’t use it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
The bet should be, how many picks will Cutler throw when the rookie runs the wrong route.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
IRA…….Steve Carell thing was funny but I take being played by Dee Ray
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Tbagg sniffer? Ralph? Brien are you the “feminine” one in your relationship?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:32 pm
exLA..
thanks for the link,in hte previous thread.. Roberto Carlos was one of the best, once, though I never liked him..
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Ira…….nope either D-ray or Mike Epps as me
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Ira,
nah cast me as Elton John or Rupaul, they are more like me.
I’m In. Ralph Nation
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
David Cassidy might work but I think early Sean Penn with the Jeff Spicolli look would be a better fit.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Sith Lord, I didn’t bring up Cruise. Someone suggested I cast you as Cruise in my movie. I was just saying that Cruise isn’t going to do any gay characters right now. In OAK GLENN, the character of Sith Lord is a right wing, anti union guy, who walks around the bay area yelling crazy things about unions and talking to himself, while having a “companion” over in the castro district. Cruise isn’t touching this part with a ten foot poll. That’s all I was saying.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
MR you use to be a worth adversary now your jokes are pitiful……step it up
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Hey MR take advice from Vito and go grease the union steward and they might be able to fit casting into your budget.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:37 pm
MR = Gary Busey
http://theblemish.com/images/2008/02/gary-busey-teeth.jpg
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I have no problem with Thomas being cut - he was marginal value for his salary. Did you all read the article about how the Colts pay top dollar to their stars and bottom dollar to the also-rans?
Thomas = very, very average.
Kelly has flu!!!
So we are playing the Broncos with Mr Sniffy (Kelly), Mr Blobby (Sands) and Mr Maybe (Warren). There is no hope - unless we run the ball for 60 mins!
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Ira -
My wife says I am closer to Matt Damon in his late 30’s than Nicholas Cage.
Matt Damon and Mike Epps need to do a buddy movie.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Wow Oakglenn is really on MR’s mind eh?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Brien be real we cant afford Matt Damon or the other guy he is always with.
maybe a poor mans version of Chris Tucker
For me I want to be played by Eddie Vedder the Pearl Jam singer.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:38 pm
NFL Security and Sheriff Goodell should get all over Tatum Bell’s a$$. The guy commited theft (possibly felony grand theft if the money clip was fat) and in my book that is as deliberate and thuggish as smoking a joint in the off season. If pot smoking (not exacty performance enhancing unless you’re in a Doritos eating competition) gets you suspensions and fines, Bell definately deserves a smackdown from Goodell.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Ira, Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges…can you hear yourself? This is a movie about die hard Raider fans who dwell in blogs all day. Don’t you think you’re shooting a bit too high on the masculinity chart for our actors? The guys you keep naming wouldn’t touch these roles. These characters are extremely unattractive misfits.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:39 pm
…….And Jerry Mathers as…The MR
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:39 pm
There you go with the gay referances again MR.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Ok, that was good, Elway’s teeth. # 120.

September 3rd, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Oops, posts are being deleted. Elway’s teeth, MR= Jerry Mathers was a good one. You’ve got my respect.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
post 115…..very weak……try jokes that are slated in the 90s
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
#120 ? MR, time to go back to your remedial counting class. Can I be Eddie Haskell? Can I, Pleeeeeeze?
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Mr
I don’t enough about the movie industry to name B actors.
Can a Jack Nicholson imitator be me?
Please?
Heck I will take an Elvis impersonator!
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Ira -
I honestly closer resemble a thinner, taller Warren Haynes but I didn’t think anyone would get that reference. Now if I could only PLAY like Warren Haynes I would be treating you all to a Raider game this Monday!
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Im In Ralphs Nation.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Sith Lord:
Someone mentioned Cruise playing the role of you.
FACT: There ARE gay rumors about Cruise, with plenty of legs, that he’s desperately trying to fend off.
FACT: The character of Sith Lord in the script OAK GLENN is gay.
Basically, Sith, your character is a right wing, anti union politico in his day to day life but has a secret gay thing going on. In light of the Larry Craig incident, a right winger being gay is a believable character. It’s all about what audiences buy into. No need to be offended. This is business.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I am a slimmer taller Rupaul, but we look alot alike. Check it..

Anybody want to bet where MR’s film will be shot? The San Fernando Valley. A Vivid Production.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Yawwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn very boring MR……you are losing your mojo in here
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:45 pm
MR please cast me as Rupaul, you can’t go wrong. It’s who I am, no need for me to act, i can just be myself. Please oh please.
Im In Ralphs nation.

September 3rd, 2008 at 12:46 pm
MR your movie is going to boring showing a bunch of bloggers at their desks in their office cubicles.
It could be a spin off of Office Space I guess!
only I get to pork Jennifer Aniston this time.

thanks for the laughs Ira. You the man, as I have often said.

Elway, Vivid production? We won’t even get that kind of budget. Are you forgetting this is a film about loser die hard Raider fans? I think you really need to lower your expectations.

Joe Montana to Jerry Rice <~~~~~~
You know I can’t smile without you
I can’t smile without you
I can’t laugh and I can’t sing
I’m finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you’re sad
I feel glad when you’re glad
If you only knew what I’m going through
I just can’t smile without you
You came along just like a song
And brighten my day
Who would of believed that you where part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away
Now some people say happiness takes so very long to find
Well, I’m finding it hard leaving your love behind me
And you see I can’t smile without you
I can’t smile without you
I can’t laugh and I can’t sing
I’m finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you’re glad
I feel sad when you’re sad
If you only knew what I’m going through
I just can’t smile without you

September 3rd, 2008 at 12:50 pm
MR how about Elisha Cuthbert?
I could do her instead of Jenifer Anniston.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:50 pm
It’s really a shame that great Paul Lynde or Charles Nelson Riley are no longer alive, either of these fine actors would have been great in the role of MR. I guess we’ll just have to settle for that backstreet boy.
September 3rd, 2008 at 12:51 pm

Ira, we have to cast a woman who’s likely to do it with a guy like you. In that regard, don’t you think your expectations are a bit high? Look, we’re going to have Oakglenn get lucky. He’s the lead character. Although it’s quite an embarrassing event for him. He won’t be bragging about it. Alyssa Milano is already tapped for the role of the woman Oakglenn scores with. She’s sort of PR girl for the Raiders and Artie Gigantino has a thing for her. This is part of Oakglenn’s revenge, but do to his, well, inexperience with girls, everything goes wrong at the moment of truth.
Anyhow, back to Ira. I’m thinking Tina Yothers is good for you. We’ve got Susan Powter as a back up.

I’m a friggin’ psychic - and it stinks.
While everybody was poo-poo’ing me all offseason for saying we ARE NOT FINE at DT I was predicting the future. The future is now. Sands is not looking like his oh-so-average 2006 form. He looks more like his below average 2003-2005 & 2007 form. Kelly is still coming off a knee injury and looks like holding up for 4 quarters may not be a certain thing. Warren is starting because Sands is so bad not because he’s so great. He’s basically a Kelly 3 gap style guy playing out of position.
So what are we left with? A DT situation that reeks of disaster. No depth, no rotation. If Kelly gets gassed we’re stuck with Sands / Warren. Great.
Forget the Honolulu Triangle running at Burgess. Run inside at Warren, Revolving door Sands and Morrison and see what happens.
So run inside against the Raiders. Oh wait run weak side at Burgess against the Raiders. Oh well actually just run on the Raiders in general. Deja vu all over again.
Better lace up Wilson. You’re going to be busy.

Brien -
A smart team will line up the TE on the left so they end up with Burgess-Warren-Howard in the no run stopping package. Teams did this frequently last year because the TE just slowed Burgess down on his mad charge to take himself out of the play.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Brien, true. There are more gays in LA than there are in the bay. That’s why it always cracks me up when people from down there label SF as gay. Hollywood and West LA are pretty much the gay capitol of the world.

So dr. z just put out his first power rankings, and he’s got the raiders at second to the bottom, over only the chiefs.

September 3rd, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Hey Dakota, maybe when you follow the rules yourself the mods will start taking your complaints seriously, you f’n whiner. It’s clearly a rule not to post url’s. Yet you do it in every post with your retarded, childish, circa 1990s AOL instant messenger jpeg “gotcha” game. I’m telling you, Dakota, most of us gave that up over a decade ago. It got old then. Are you new to the internet? Or is pretty much everything you do in life decades outdated? Just keep complaining to the mods about “trolls” while you simultaneously thumb your own nose at this blog’s rules. Keep the comedy coming, you jackass.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:10 pm
correction: we’re below the chiefs and above the falcons.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:10 pm
ny york writers are idiots, and have east coast bias, they hate on the pac 10 every year yet we seem to beat the sec butt whenever they meet heads up.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Cant see to many positives with this dt rotation. Kelly looks to still be getting his wind back and Sands seems to always be gased. Couple long drives and we could be in trouble. Also is we play Warren at NT we could get by signing a passrushing dt to spell him on passing downs. Is Rod Coleman still out there?

Shanahan-Davis quarrel back in play
By Mike Chambers
The Denver Post
Article Last Updated: 09/03/2008 02:04:54 PM MDT
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan ended his weekly news conference Wednesday by admittedly firing up his personal rivalry with Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.
Nearly 20 years after Davis fired Shanahan as the Raiders’ head coach, a reporter asked Shanahan if he still harbors bad feelings against Davis and the Raiders, or if time has dissolved his anger about being let go four games into the 1989 season or Davis in general.
“No, it doesn’t dissipate at all,” Shanahan said with a stern stare.
The reporter replied: “So feelings are still the same today as they were the day you became the coach here and first played them?”
“I said it doesn’t dissipate at all — that’s what that means,” Shanahan said.
“Thank you,” the reporter said after getting a far better response than he expected.
“You’re welcome,” Shanahan replied, before walking from the podium, smiling, and saying: “OK, might as well get it fired up.”
The Broncos visit the Raiders on Monday night for the season opener for both teams. Earlier, Shanahan discussed the game without mentioning the bitterness of the rivalry.
“First game of the season is always big, especially AFC West, on the road, Monday night,” Shanahan said. “It’s a big first game for us. We get a chance to showcase our team on national television (and the) AFC West. It’s something you look forward to.”

well fellow raiders it is only 5 days away before our 1st monday night game in years, and I cant wait, I’m down here in el paso,tx, but believe me all us raider fans in el paso,tx cant wait for this game, i just wish i was going to that 1st game of the season tailgating with all the raider fans in oaktown. Kiffin is our man leading the way, and when coach kiffin has nothing, he has nothing to lose. I mean nothing as in no back up from our so called leader mr. al old azz davis. He never talks anymore and when he does he opens his mouth about wanting to get rid of kiffin, smart one davis, havent you noticed that this is a positive coach for our team, and your last decisions including letting gruden go when he had one last year on his contract was one of the many jacka*s decision mr. davis has made in since 2000. So coach kiffin this is your team a lot of us believe in your decisions, and let it all out this year, we will be a lot better than the past years, rrrrrrrraiiiiiiiiiddddderrrrrrrrrsssssss!!!!!!!!!
has anyone heard of any attempt by the raiders to try and pick up Joe Horn?
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:26 pm

Having Wakefield as our 4th DT is comical at best. If that indeed is the case. For those of you that are comfortable with this you saw something that I didnt against Seattle. I saw a d-line that lacked depth and to think Wakefield will fill that role is a big time stretch. Also we have a receiving fullback in Griffith. Why do we need another one.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 pm
The more recievers on the field, the better……I think Curry is going to itch(oops) have a good year this year, but who wouldn’t want to disquise a draw as a screen to a pass catching fullback.
Go pass catching fullbacks!
Go Raiders!
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 pm
sucks for the bills, we haven’t had any hold outs since woodson right.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:56 pm
This is all I expect this year, anything more is GRAVY.
I want both wins against KC and DEN. I want to split one with SD, and we should take BAL MIA HOU & ATL, tha’s a record of 9 & 7. I would love THAT at this point!!!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
we are going to run a lotta 2 reciever sets, two tight ends, etc. expect us to run the ball against the broncos and run it a lot. play mcfadden, play fargas, in fantasy, because they are going to pin the tale on these unicorns.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:58 pm
man with my spelling maybe i should go to class haha

After the last 5 seasons, EVERYONE owns us.
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Raiders should win these first two games…….it has to be a blessing to play two teams with garbage front 7s…..we need to run it 40 times dammit
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Houston has beat us 3 times and I just dont get it…….hopefully this season it doesnt happen…….and damn that game is on my b-day at home!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:06 pm
True….
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Jamarcus held out. You think we our going to use alot of single back sets?
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Houston has some talent there most def…………I truly feel the colts not winning that divison so easily as the last 5 years
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Hopefully we can put some points on the board early so that another Broncos’ RB doesn’t have a career day against Rob Ryan’s defense.
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Hells Bells- yeah good question……..later on the season if the oline doesnt look “svelte” we may………but not a good idea to have one back sets as of now
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Selvin Young is not doing much………max he gets 75 yards and who is their backup? Wife Beating extraordinaire Michael Pittman? Man Denver said they are a pass first team now……They will play into our strength on defense……..COVERAGE
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Guys, is it even worth noting when my troll is posting? Or should we just accept there are two Dakotas…
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
One back set? What, do we put in our great backup TE or our great backup WRs to replace the FB? lol
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
I expect at least 2 INTs like last year in Oakland vs Cutler……..I expect it for sure
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
The Jets and The Raiders will be the suprise teams this year.
10-6
and we knock the pats out of the playoffs
Best year ever!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:12 pm
We should see alot of stretch plays on Monday. Did not run these in preseason alot. We will test Denvers front seven all night. They were weak against the run last year and did squat to fix it. Maybe worse this year when you look at the moves they made.
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Brien
I bet the Houston boots beat the colts twice this year.
That defense of theres is designed to stop Indy
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:12 pm
If we can replace Jay’s insulin with vodka…5 ints min.
September 3rd, 2008 at 2:12 pm
