Repeat offenders lengthen practice
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 5:26 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Quick hits from Wednesday’s media window during practice and locker room availability as the Raiders prepare to host the Denver Broncos Monday night at McAfee Coliseum:
– The Raiders had their longest practice since camp began, more than two hours, with plenty of “do-overs” to get things right, coach Lane Kiffin said.
“It was the first time for a lot of guys to see an opponent,” Kiffin said. “We had a number of repeats.”
– Kiffin said split end Javon Walker will be “pushed” but listed as day-to-day with a hamstring pull. Just in case, new acquistion Ashley Lelie is taking snaps at split end.
“It will be up to him, to see how far he can take it,” Kiffin said. “He seems to be picking things up pretty well. He seems very aware. ”
Lelie said his familiarity with the system in Denver, as well as playing with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp in Atlanta, made the Raiders’ playbook a quick read.
“Once I started going through it, I could kind of feel that the terms started to come back to me,” Leliw said. “I just have to kind of shift it in my head. The kind of terminology around the league, it’s similar, the stuff they talk about. So it wasn’t that bad.”
Lelie said he failed to make an impression with the 49ers due to injury, and conceded his reptuation as one fo the league’s up-and-coming receivers during his early years in Denver had taken a hit.
“When you kind of stop making plays, then the league keeps going and forgets about you,” Lelie said. “So this will be a prime example Monday night, to kind of showcase what I can do, and what I can do to help the team.”
– With William Joseph released to make room for Lelie, starters Tommy Kelly, Gerard Warren and Terdell Sands will play in a three-man rotation against the Broncos. Kelly and Sands have both had conditioning issues, Kelly is recovering from knee surgery, and as Kiffin said about Sands, Sunday, “he’ll never be an every down player in the NFL.”
Kiffin is hopeful the three man line can hold up. If not, Jay Richardson or Fred Wakefield could see time at tackle.
– There were two votes in the Raiders locker room for Denver’s Champ Bailey as the top cornerback in the NFL. One from Lelie, the other from DeAngelo Hall.
“He’s the best,” Lelie said of Bailey. “Whenever you’re a competitor you want to play against the best.”
Hall put Bailey at No. 1, and said, “Me and Nnamdi (Asomugha), you can pull it out of a hat for 2 and 3.”
– Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler talked up the Raiders corners, even if he’s not sure of their names. He didn’t even try to say “Asomugha,” and identifed Hall as “Dante Hall.”
– It could be one of those brutally truthful Kiffin moments, or the coach could be trying to sandbag the Broncos regarding the use of rookie running back Darren McFadden.
No need to tax the poor lad in Week 1 with motion, lining up wide or in the slot or as a quarterback running the option out of a shotgun formation.
“By the time we get halfway through the year, I think he will have had a big impact on this team,” Kiffin said. “You’ve just got to be nervous how much you do with him. You won’t see him doing as much stuff as you’d like I’m sure in this opener. Especially because you’ve got a Monday night game as well. He’s got to worry just about getting a handoff. We’ll be very careful with him this week.
Any chance he’ll return the opening kickoff?
“No, no,” Kiffin said. “We’ve got to get him in the I-formation and let him take the ball and get hit without fumbling it before we start trying to move him all over the place.”
McFadden played the good soldier, willing to do whatever the coaching staff wants. He’s been spending time fielding punts as well, but says that’s just for hand-eye coordinator and there are no plans to use him as a punt returner.
– Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, in a conference call with Bay Area media, sounds as if he wouldn’t be surprised to get the full-on McFadden.
“I think everybody will obviously prepare for what he did in college as well as what he’s done in the preseason games,” Shanahan said. “We know he’s played the quarterback position and we know what he’s done out of the quarterback position. At the collegiate level to have the success that he’s had, he’s just a tremendous weapon. He has big-play potential and can do a lot of different things.”
– Speaking of McFadden, his speed and its effect on the Raiders offense is the subject of a Web Exclusive column which posted today.
– Kiffin also promised to keep things basic for Russell’s debut, something Cutler anticipates as well.
“If they can’t get the running game going, it’s gonna make a long day for him,” Cutler said. `Probably the coaches are gonna keep things basic, try to run the ball and get eight in the box so he gets some one-on-ones outside. And he’s going to see some blitzes that he’s not accustomed to seeing, because teams are gonna test him, see if he’s on his stuff protection-wise. It’s a learning process. There’s a learning curve, and you’ve got to go through it to be successful.”
– Russell, in his typical low-key manner, shrugged off Denver’s potential blitzkrieg.
“Not knowing exactly what they’re going to do, it’s important for us to concentrate on what we’re going to do,” Russell said. “We’ll have to react to whatever is happening out there. But at the same time, having a young quarterback out there, there’s certain things you would want to do to him to get him rattled and upset in certain spots.”
Russell was asked if he is aware he is regarded as the “savior” of the franchise and didn’t shrink away from the question.
“I am. And thank god for that that I’m in this position. It’s your face that’s out there when people say, ‘the Oakland Raiders.’ So you have to carry yourself in a good way and watch your surroundings,” Russell said. “You have to be willing to take any criticism that comes with it.”
– Kiffin didn’t seem overly concerned with the Broncos signing defensive tackle Josh Shaw, who was cut by the Raiders Saturday in the roster reduction to 53.
“I don’t that a D-tackle can tell you very much about the game plan,” Kiffin said. “They just kind of line up and go. I’d be nevrous if it was a quarterback especially but, not that Josh isn’t a smart guy, but I don’t think Josh can tell you much about our game plan.”
– Russell on what he likes about Ashley Lelie: “I like the way he uses his hands.”
Which begs the question _ were the rest of Oakland’s receivers trying to catch passes with their teeth?
– Kiffin confirmed the Raiders worked out Chad Jackson, a former second-round pick by the Patriots who was cut. His name will remain on file for the time being.

Jerry,
With respect, one of the things receivers can do with their hands is disengage from press coverage.
Totally other, thanks for your work on this. Fourteen pages of Redskins coverage in an 18 page “NFL Preview” section of the Washington Post today — I really do appreciate you as a source here on the right coast.

Cutler may not know the names of the Raiders’ starting corner backs, but he should be real familiar with them Monday night.
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Haven’t posted in a while. But hey the seasons here. Did anybody catch the SI Dr. Z. power rankings 31st. I know the meadia hates us but hell no respect. kc and miami were ahead of us. First week power rankings are as uselees as… hell power rankings.
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Just got my tix for the falcons game. Sec 140. Who’s with me.
September 3rd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
How much does everyone here hate Cutler. I mean either he is just stupid or arrogant or all of the above. Let’s see the Raiders, with no pass threat last year had the 6th best run offense in the league. Conversely, the Donks had one of the worst if not THE worst run defenses in the league. We have added a superstar RB and another top notch RB in Bush to the team and he thinks for some reason we WON’T be able to run all over them?
I do hope that JR torches them for some nice completions first though, because their D is pretty weak! Cutler just needs to show some respect like all the other players in the league do. That is why a lot of players don’t like him, because of the taunts at the fans, the taunts at players after a game is over, and overall just for being a punk as#!
Bust his ASS!

DENVER @ OAKLAND Monday Night
Here’s my take on the game.
Overall: The Raiders handled Denver easily at home last year and had every chance to beat them in Denver. The in Denver game was played by an injured Josh McCown and a HB named Lamont Jordan The Raiders have upgraded those positions this offseason and the Raiders should be able to win their home opener for the first time since the Gruden era.
Raiders offense vs. Denver D - The company line is the Raiders will run and run some more BUT Kiffin has shown a willingness to take his shots with play action. In the first Denver game of 07 McCown connected deep to Curry and missed an open Porter. The shots will be there. Russell showed he is best passing from the play action so look for the team to run and then go play action.
Bailey may match up well against one of the Raiders average WR’s but the Broncos have not replaced Lynch at safety and their speed oriented LBs are getting older. Miller, Bush and DMAC have an advantage in the pass game.
The Broncos offense vs Raider D - The Raiders upgraded their secondary after an 07 full of blown leads and 3rd and longs. This is good because Cutler has looked much improved at QB. The Broncos for years could put anybody in the ZBS and hang 100+ on Oakland. The Raiders’ D may again give it up but the Denver line is starting to lose guys like Nalen who were key blockers. Expect Denver to run and try to throw to the TE and RBs to stay away from the Raider CBs. They will run screen and draw plays liberaly to exploit the Raiders’ man coverage. The Raiders best defensive weapon will be the offense chewing the clock and scoring. Forcing Denver to pass is key.
Special Teams - Advantage Raiders IF Higgins doesn’t make any blunders. Seabass having to kick a possible game-winning FG from second base dirt is another concern. Raiders-Denver routinely comes down to the wire.
IN THE END: This may end up being the fastest game in history if both teams try to chew the clock. Despite common belief, it is the Raiders game to lose. They outplayed Den twice last year and only look stronger this year. Penalties and turnovers must be avoided. Don’t put Russell in 1st and 15 or 1st and 20 with penalties. Give him and the running game a chance to move the chains and wait for McFadden or someone else to vust loose as the Broncos wear down.
Raiders 23 (2 TDs and 3 FGs) Denver 17
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Statistically Nnamdi is the best CB in the league. I can understand Hall not wanting to acknowledge it cause he lays claim to wanting to be the best. But he’s not the best on his own team, with much respect to him. His boy, Deon Sanders, even said he is not the best on his team.
Nnamdi is better than Champ imho. I’ve seen Champ burned many times. In recent years, its rare to see Nnamdi lose out. No one even throw his direction. I forgot what the stats are but they’re just sick.
Something like 20passes thrown his direction ALL season and less than 10 were completions along with 7 PASSES DEFENDED 1 INT. SICK!!

COW & Terrapin..
really good post, guys!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:17 pm
I agree with that assessment COW. Contrary to popular belief, the Raiders should win and could win handedly. Will they? That’s what the game is for. They outplayed Denver twice last year. (Please just don’t remind me of JMcCowns misses to JP. He missed him TWICE! TWICE!!!! - unreal).
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:22 pm
This article is ver honest.
It tells me exactly what I expect to hear. The Raiders quotes are all excuses.
This team has no confidence, and it is because our Head Coach has none!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Kiffin:
“By the time we get halfway through the year, I think he will have had a big impact on this team,” Kiffin said. “You’ve just got to be nervous how much you do with him. You won’t see him doing as much stuff as you’d like I’m sure in this opener. Especially because you’ve got a Monday night game as well. He’s got to worry just about getting a handoff. Key words…
Nervous & Worry
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:24 pm
I am so f’in pissed about this team!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:24 pm
The one thing I would add about DMC that particularly surprised me was his balance, physicalness and ability to break tackles not by juking but by being physical.
Watching those highlight reels you guys kept posting all I thought he was was a young Fargas that always tried to hit the corner and couldn’t make you miss or break tackles. COMPLETELY WRONG! From what Kiffin said, his coaches likely advised him to just go down to safeguard against possible injury. Thats why I saw what I saw. But it was not the whole truth with what this guy is capable of.
This preseason I saw a RB breaking tackles and hitting defenders hard - shockingly physical in some cases - legs churning ….never saw that on the “highlights”.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:25 pm
And here we have HALL saying he and his buddy are 2 and 3 at corner..
Who cares?
Our team needs to shut the hell up and just play!
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Fred Wakefield as a backup DT is a concern. Why don’t they just pick up a DT with good potential from another team’s practice squad?
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:26 pm
I can’t wait to see the final product this week. Its time to see if we really have a coach.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:26 pm
If Kiffin is always playing for some future event this team will always be rebuilding with him in charge….
Un-f’inbelieveable

The rumor or word on Mcfadden having dead legs upon contact was completely false. Mike Mayock and Brian Baldinger have been completely wrong so far. Especially Mayock, before the draft thats all he would talk about.
September 3rd, 2008 at 7:42 pm

September 3rd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Here is another case of people hating on the Raiders. This time from Gene Wojchiechowski of ESPN.
22: The team with the best chance to go winless
It’s actually harder than you think to take an oh-fer in the NFL. The Dolphins had Cleo Lemon at quarterback for much of last year, and they couldn’t do it (1-15). The Falcons had the tag team spectacular controversies of Michael Vick and Petrino, and they couldn’t do it (4-12).
To be honest, I don’t think any team fits the winless profile this season. But if you held a yard marker at my head, I’d say the Raiders have all the ingredients for a meltdown. Any team that signs defensive tackle Tommy Kelly to a $50.5 million contract is capable of anything.

Kiffin says that sands will never be a “every down player in this league” of course everyone needs a breather but if you feel like this guy is gonna be sucking up oxygen for more than half the game and tommy kelly is not in full shape yet so he’ll be sucking the air too, why not go out and get another DT and stop abusing poor wakefield all over the place cmon mqn stop all this “experimenting” and put together a complete D and not a patch work infusion of a OL/DL/TE!!!i swear if we for some reason have wakefield on the line and shans rat pack runs up our hole for a big gain or a touch down blood will shoot out of my eyes!! When in doubt, steal the bags of the person taking your job because you might as well leave with some satisfaction.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:29 pm
The national media don’t follow squat. Most of these guys don’t follow more than a couple teams they’re in love with. Anybody west of Dallas gets zero attention.
So don’t worry about them! Rich Eisen on NFLN picked the Raiders as his dark horse team and Rod Woodson picked them as his sleeper team in the AFC. At least those guys actually try to know what’s going on.
Two days ago some scrub reporter was talking about Wade starting at Center this year. Dude! Grove was named the starter last week. I’m suppose to worry about that guy’s predictions?
Please.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:33 pm
C.O.W.
Question number one: What happened to you? Feeling guilty for smacking these tards around too much? Ahh, I go through that every now and then, too. Believe me, within a day or two you’ll go back to telling the truth about this team, and they’ll go back to bashing you for not being a real fan.
Secondly…if the national media doesn’t know what’s going on, then why should we take Rich Eisen seriously? Cherry picking random positive opinions from the press…that’s the most obvious side effect of Al Davis kool aid.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Also, I think it was E Allen that said we’re the dark horse. He also went on to say that in order for it to happen, Kiffin has to have control of the team. So, that’s out the window.

I sense some nervousness and apprehension out there in Raiderland. Just chill out everybody! It’s only football and football is only a game. So if the Raiders have a poor season, so what? It’s only a game. Just keep repeating that. It’s only a game. It’s only a game. It’s only a game’. It’s only….
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Great, we can’t stop the run, nor do we have a pass rush, if we lose to the donks, we go 1-3, and kiffin’s gone ,and were back to page one, WTF IS GOING ON !
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pm
COW = The Voice of Reason, You post 38 was an
excellant commentary on what we should see in the game.
You allways bring the science, and although I dont agree with every thing you say, you do however bring it.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:37 pm
As for the 9ers - it’s not happening. Seattle has owned that division for 4 years and Arizona was like 4-2 in division play last year. The SF boys have Mike Martz and nobody to throw the ball. Martz without Marshal Faulk is like taking a Viagra on a deserted island. Sure you’ll get all worked up but in the end you aren’t going to score.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Thec, he feels bad for smacking you guys around too much. He’ll be back in form as soon as he gets tired of the kool aid drinking b.s. in here. It takes a day or two. All of us realists go though the occasional guilt phase and play nice with everyone for a while. It doesn’t last long. After we lose to the Donks, believe me, you’ll be in here cursing Coach on Wheels for him breaking down why we lost.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:41 pm

very true.. and power make people age quicker, so he wont last 4 years, that for sure, then “natural” causes can take its action..
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
MR - I don’t care what Eisen says either actually. My point is that these guys don’t follow the teams closely so getting worked up about their predictions is silly.
The team needs to win on the field. All this hater and real fan garbage is stupid. That’s my point.
As for not being negative or critical enough for you, you obviously missed it yesterday when I was critical of our pathetic DT situation and the Lelie is going to “magically good” discussion.
It isn’t really about positive or negative though. I just call em like I see em. I try to back upmy opinions with examples too. Sorry if you missed me.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:45 pm
thats it for me.. night all.. i’m handing my desk over to the day shift now.. nigth!
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:46 pm
I keep telling you experts, the only way we beat Denver is if we run for about 300 yards,..if we pass more then 15 times its a sure loss,..but I of course will be there regardless,…you guys will of course post in here after every single play,…that sounds exciting!…Im happy for you!!!…my final prediction,… Denver wins it going away, 38-13…sorry people, Im just keeping it real.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
LOL 120…
batman dont trip we got this! Donkeys are gonna get their as$es kicked!
oh yeah that picture thing earlier was funny as hell!
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:48 pm
My point is we have to look at this game as a must win, to start the season off quick. Big Al, is just waiting for Kiffin to stumble. Why would you put your coach under that pressure?
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:51 pm
And I do think the Raiders match up well with Denver. Doesn’t mean they can commit a bunch of turnovers and penalties and still win though.
It also doesn’t mean they’ll blow them out or go to the playoffs if they do.
I really think this is a 7-9 to 8-8 club. I think Denver at Oakland is one of the 7-8 games they win. Hopefully they’ll outperform my expectations.
“Sands will never be an every down player in this league” - Kiffin’s stealing my material again!

September 3rd, 2008 at 9:59 pm
Kiffin will not be returning to the Raiders next year. If the Raiders do poorly (win less than eight games), he will be fired. If they go 8-8 or better he will look for another NFL head coaching position or a college Head coaching job. No way he comes back for another year working for Al Davis.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
There is a bright side to our upcoming 0-4 start,..Kiffin canned during Bye,…things will get better after that,..not much, but a little….
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
I watched it dorkknight,..liked it…why didnt you like it?..too busy surfing porn on your computer?…blogging?…

Kiffin is a punk,..runs to the loser media to cry and whine almost daily,…sounds a little like dorkknight.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:05 pm
I like how dorkknight started his post with,…Uhh…dorkknight are you retarded?..is that how you speak in real life so you feel you need to start a sentence with, Uhh,……..what a retard you are dorkknight.

MR, Just fyi never been “smacked around” wtf are u talking about?
I dont agree with every COW = The voice of reason says, but the man does drop science most of the time.
I totally disagree with the lelie signing. what will we lose if we continue to groom our potential young stars. WATKINS, CHAZ, and JLH need as much PT as possible. Lelie will be taking snaps away from the young guns. Signing lelie, and grey are head scratchers, I wonder who was responsible for that decision…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Oh yeah and Raiders win 24-10 running a muck.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Hey, kids and adults alike:
My 2bits.
VS. Denver. The D must be aggressive, with speed. To counter the Rat’s screens passes and cut back runs. With the occasional slant/post at 20+yds.
Also, the D line must knock the “Hype” down. and put him down hard.
The O. Run, Run, and run some more.
Would like to see a counter tre, run w/ McFadden, to the left.
Keep em’ honest w/ a deep post or fly pattern.
3rd & 8, throw it to Curry, or that kid named Zach.
JLH, Must not drop the ball. He will be fine, then.
Seabass, Just hit that 38yd. kick off that awful dirt.
MOST IMPORTANT: Do not let, Robbo go limp w/ the D. Late in the 4th.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Jay Cutler is lucky he’s quarterback that sucks, or else no one would know who the hell he is.
He was on the South Park show last year, and they played him like a fool. Hahah it was funny!
Champ is starting to lose his touch… He did let a rookie in James Jones burn him on that Monday night game. James Jones…… San Jose State product!!!!
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:50 pm
MR,…take a harder look,..Romney doesnt want McCain to win,.he wants to run for prez in 4 years, not 8,….does everything go over your head?…same goes for Hillery,..shes desperate for McCain to win…try and not fall too far behind MR….but I will keep you up on things, no prob.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:51 pm

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:53 pm

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:55 pm
I think DMC will make 2 plays in this game that will be diffeence makers. I see ZMiller as a can’t be stopped factor. Fargas will get the game going in stable wayand Russell will make a throw late that will clinch the win. Hopefully for us.
I did say that DMC’s legs go dead on contact because it was on film and I also saw it in the preseason. But he ran much harder in preseason between the tackles which was great to see. But you simply cannot give hima steady diet of inside running he’s just cut too high. And his power is in his upperbody.
If used right he’ll stay healthy and extremely productive, similar to the way we used Kaufman. DMC is just bigger and more talented 25lbs heavier but 5 inches taller meaning he’s too narrow for the pounding yu take inside. It’s just smart football to use him wisely.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:55 pm

September 4th, 2008 at 1:09 am
Oh..and MR-12
September 4th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Anyway, I should probably talk Raiders.
Why is Al screwing this up with Kiffin? Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about. Kiffin is the only guy in this organization testing these stupid f’n kids we call THE TEAM. Believe me, if we had the kind of players that could do it without the coach, THEY WOULD DO IT WITHOUT THE COACH. The ‘83 Raiders would have already hung Kiffin to a locker by his underwear. Heck, that’s pretty much what those guys did to Shanahan. But today’s players just aren’t going to do it without a coach keeping things in tact….not an owner, but a coach. There are factors in today’s game that change things from the days when players coached themselves, and thus teams were led by veterans. Free agency, salary cap, players moving around, the average 25 year old today being semi-retarded, and several other factors. You need the head coach. And the head coach has to be a breaker de huevos. The players aren’t supposed to like him. That’s the idea. But they’ll love him when they win. That’s the BIG idea.
Forget it. Don’t bother responding. I’ve had a few drinks. You guys are alright. 909, thank you for your service. I’ll buy you a beer sometime. I just don’t like the way these corporations are taking over the country. Think no bid contracts. YIKES. To be honest, I’d take McCain if it’s all there was left. I’d prefer Obama, but McCain wouldn’t be the worst thing. Goodnight, all.

September 4th, 2008 at 7:49 am
Dakota.. you are wrong there, have you ever watched a girl soccer game– well of course you haven’t but their leg strength are way to weak to play soccer properly..
September 4th, 2008 at 7:51 am
and then they have an obvious defect in the game of soccer, girls have these thing on their chest, that usually is something I like a lot, but having those mean they cant tame the ball with their chest..
September 4th, 2008 at 7:52 am
Kiffin with his apparent hate for veteran players that play at a high level continues to make this team younger and younger completely disregarding the lack of talent of most of these young players. It’s obvious that Kiffin doesn’t like Walker eventhough he is by far our most talented WR. Kiffin all but benched R. Curry and now we sign a garbage WR in Lelie? Why when have a complete roster of unproven and marginally talented WR’s. After a very unimpressive preseason and following a failed 2007 season, Kiffin has no more room for excuses. He either turns this team around this season or he has got to go.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:54 am
ohh and Euros is a currency..
September 4th, 2008 at 7:55 am
Seems like Giants D-line situation is way worse than Ours.Strahan retired and is sailing around the Greek Isles{loving retirement, went out a Champ}OSI out for the year with a knee.I stated b4,when a team can blow through the NFL go 16-0 and get beat by a 9-7 team,it could be anybodys year ,OUR YEAR.All teams are thin in some area or other. All of a sudden Our D-line dont look so bad,if one decides to take a look-around.I know it maybe a little lofty but 2 me 10-6 looks do-able.RAIDERS:34 donkeys:6 P.S.After this game there will be no mistake who THE BEST CORNER IS Nnamdi
September 4th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Thec#123 I couldn’t agree with you more. You have to develope your young guys. the receivers we have are all really good. Lelie is Not the answer. Please Raiders Address the OFFENSIVE LINE PLEASE!!!!!
September 4th, 2008 at 8:02 am
4eva..
I think if we just had one of NYG reserves our D would be better.. our problems on the d-line cant even be compared small stuff the NYG has..
but of course in NYG optics its biig problems.. but not compared to ours…
September 4th, 2008 at 8:03 am
any insight on another receiver after game 1 like Joe Horn, etc or is Lelie our play?
September 4th, 2008 at 8:06 am
I think we’ll see a mix of all Our WRs.It will be interesting 2 see ex-team mates go against each-other then Bly and Bailey contend with Our young speedy big WRs
September 4th, 2008 at 8:12 am
Bob T..
nah, I don’t think there is any good out there, and pulling them in now, doesn’t help much, the thing with Lelie, is he played in an O like ours in Denver, and actually played for Knapp in Atlanta, so it has been rather easy for him joining us.
I don’t think other receivers out there will have as easy, and their quality is some what dubious too..

Ok that always makes me feel better! So I’m haveing mixed feelings about this whole Lelie situation. On 1 hand I can remember him torching us and hope he can bring some of that to the table. On the other hand Im upset because I feel Chaz should get the reps so we can grow our own players.

Morning 408 sup I’m not 2 concerned on the outcome of 2nites start of the season on Thursday Night Special. What Im interested in is this;NY lost both DE 4 the year. What kind of D-line will they come up with in a relatively short time
September 4th, 2008 at 8:44 am
the bottom line its up to the youth in oaktown, there going to win thier share…….. the broncettes are going down in the fourth, were runnin the ball 30-35 times and winning it in the fourth. d comes up with two picks and russel throws for 270 yards. period.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:45 am

No way (I hope) Its all about the 3headed monster! But if Fargas is being a beast and gashing them for 6 or 8 yards a carry I wouldn’t have a problem with it @ all…

Bush might get a pass or two thrown his way but I bet thats all the touches he sees.
Kiffin will do what he did last year to beat them.
Big Difference will be the huge upgrade at QB.
Watch JR make all the plays that McCown and company could not.
This will be a huge beatdown of epic proportions.
We will run scatshan out of Denver this year

The pre-game show on ESPN for the MNF game will be a group of Raider-haters who will trash us for 30 seconds and then discuss the Broncos for 21.5 minutes…it will make us all want to puke.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:01 am

Me to brother! I also enjoy listing to the pre game fix on 560 while I get my tailgate on. either @ the game or in the back yard best believe some grilling and alot of drinking is going down whenever OUR RAIDERS play!
September 4th, 2008 at 9:04 am
We are so talented @ RB I dont see why Kiff is so hesitant to have Dmc return kicks full time. Jax had a lot of success putting Drew back there. Is it because DMC fumbled on a few kicks w/ Ark? I dont get it. I understand not putting him back there in preseason but against Den he could be a huge difference maker back there.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:06 am

September 4th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Tay,
I respectfully disagree. I hope Kiffin does not use the $60 million dollar man as a KR…he might break one off, but he also might break his leg…too risky.
Hopefully JLH pulls his head out of his azz and shows us why we do not have to use McFadden in KR situations.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:12 am

YIHR!!!! they will show BOTH MNF games, so no need for P2P thats just FU©KING GREAT!
Ohh that eases my mind, I was afraid I would miss or needed to hear it on radio!!
that means we will have the big package again this year!

You cant worry about injuries. Hes a RB in the NFL, its part of the job description. Besides its not like he has had injury issues. Hes been extremly durable @ Ark.
Also, its not like he will be getting 30 carries a game. Splitting time he will proably only get 15 carries. We will not be overusing him putting him PR 4 or 5 times a game.

DMC in the open field scares the crap out of teams. On PR he will always be in the open field. Atleast put him on PR until he becomes the RB starter.

McFadden will be our Franchise RB by the second half of the MNF game…you don’t use your franchise RB to return kicks.

Once again…Coach Kiffin’s brutal honesty in ,perhaps, motivating an obscenely overpaid athlete is refreshing re: Turdell Sands.I just can’t understand why we didn’t pick up another servicable DT….If either Kelly, Warren or the BIG DOO-DOO go down, it isn’t going to be pretty…that being said, I have this crazy feeling that with regard to our starters anyway, we’re just two OT’s and two DL’s away from being truely competitive with the big boys…

I agree, maybe in year 2 we will use him, if we are behind and have to score twice within the 2min..
or use him as a decoy, to confuse the ST..
But I rather try DeAngelo Hall than McFadden on KR/PR..

DAMC will be pretty good RB for a skinny guy with no power or moves strictly speed goes down too easy red shirted RB.

Know this is off base. Was just reading some of the Denver articles to see what they are thinking about this game. (ROCKY MOUNTAN NEWS) They have some idiot poster named Geno who posts this studip story on every web site about how he went to a game, beat uu 70-3, seen little kids beat up, got threaten by a little girl…etc guy pisses me off. Go sign up in their site a flood it. they dont have alot of people on their site so it might not be worth it. signed in as real.

One post from the denver post that just completly makes me hate any and everything donkey:
“It’s Raider Hater Week, and the same holds true in Oakland. This is the ONLY game that the Raider office does not have to give free tickets to half fill up the stadium. They only sell out the Bronco game. But what a difference in the fans!
I just got back from the Bay Area on business, and their Sports Talk Radio sounds like 5th graders are putting on the show. Every call was like:
“KNBR, Sports Talk, you’re on the air”
” HELLOOO GAREEYY”
“Turn your radio down please”
” Oh, how did you know, OK….Umm I just wanna say, Broncos ****!”
” Ecellent question caller, let’s get to our next call”
” HELLOO GAREEYY”
” Turn your radio down please”
” Oh, sorry, I’m in the same Prison yard as the last caller…Umm, I just want to add to the last caller’s question that….Broncos ****!”
” Both excellent questions, we’ll be right back after a word from our only sponsor, AAA Bail Bonds!”
