Asomugha has fractured elbow
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, September 26th, 2008 at 2:03 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The injury which has minimized the practice participation of cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha this week is a fracture of a small bone in the right elbow.
Coach Lane Kiffin never used the term when discussing the injury the past two days, but Asomugha did when talking about it on Friday.
“It’s real sore, real banged up. It happened in about the second quarter in Buffalo,” Asomugha said.
I asked him Asomugha if he’d struck it on a helmet.
“No, tackling. I got kicked,” Asomugha said. “That’s where the fracture came in.”
Excuse me?
“Yeah, there’s a little bone in there. I don’t know what it’s called,” Asomugha said.
Asomugha will have a better idea of his availability after more treatment and rest.
“It’s going to depend on how it feels the next couple of days because I haven’t really done much of anything on it, so I may be able to have a brace on it and go like that,” Asomugha said. “Just having to depend on how it feels the next couple of days.”
Kiffin said Asomugha’s elbow lacked strength and that he was forced to abandon press coverage late in the Bills game.
Asomugha, the Raiders exclusive franchise free agent and best defensive player, said he may have to change up his game somewhat but noted his left arm remains at full strength.
“It’s his elbow, and what he doesn’t have is very much strength,” Kiffin said. “If it wasn’t contact, he’d be fine. But he does not have the strength right now that we’d like him to have or he’d like to have. That’s why it’s kind of hard to figure out if he’s going to be able to play.”
Asomugha is listed as questionable, along with running back Darren McFadden (toe) and Stanford Routt (ankle). Listed as doubtful were defensive tackle Gerard Warren (pectoral) and Cooper Carlisle.
Running back Justin Fargas (groin), tackle Seth Wand (knee) and tight end Ben Troupe (foot) were listed as out and will be inactive.
Kiffin said all would be game-time decisions, with Warren and Carlisle the two who are “the least ready to play.”
If both Asomugha and Routt were unavailable, Kiffin said free safety Michael Huff and reserve safety Rashad Baker could be drafted into action as cornerbacks and the Raiders would just “try and find a way through the game.”
McFadden will again have a pain-killing injection and start if he warms up well enough. If McFadden to discover either before or during the game he couldn’t go on, then fullback Justin Griffith would be the backup to Michael Bush at running back, with Luke Lawton moving in at fullback.
“We’ll push him and act as if he’s fine,” Kiffin said. “Once he starts showing he’s not 100 percent, we’ll pull back as a safety measure and go with Michael and make sure he doesn’t get knocked out in the game so he can come back (after the bye) with Fargas.”
Kiffin said he can’t recall a time in his 19 games as Raiders coach where he had to prepare for a game with so many injuries.
“I think we had eight guys at some point that weren’t practicing yesterday, either they were completely out or were limited in practice,” Kiffin said. “We haven’t had anything like this since I’ve been here. I don’t have an explanation for it. It’s unfortunate.
“Then I look over at a team that just played Monday night in San Diego and they were 100 percent participation, all 53 guys. Usually, after a Monday night game you have some guys that aren’t practicing. They’re really healthy and we’re banged up so we’re going to have to have some people step up and play.”
It was suggested to Kiffin that the bye couldn’t be coming at a better time.
“It could come at a better time,” Kiffin said. “It could come right now. That would be the best time for it.”
Newberry on the Raiders
It’s the plight of a team on a five-plus year of futility _ ex-players with stories to tell. The latest is Chargers center Jeremy Newberry, who wil be a backup for the first time in his career when Nick Hardwick reassumes the starting role in the Coliseum.
Newberry, without bitterness or rancor, gave a dead-on review of what a lot of players are thinking inside the locker room to the San Diego Union Tribune.
“The organization as far as the football field and the meeting rooms is good,” Newberry said. “As far as the offensive line went, it was a good group of guys. But the other stuff …
“It’s not fun to lose and it’s not fun to be in a losing environment. It’s refreshing to be down here and to have a clear-cut system where everyone knows who is in charge of this and who is in charge of that.
“In Oakland, there was always something . . . this guy was going to be fired because he wasn’t Al’s (Davis) guy, or this guy wasn’t going to be fired because he was Al’s guy. It was always something.”

Are we cursed? Its always something bad happening to this team. Damn!
September 26th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Newberry confirmed that Al Davis likes scholarship players & coaches.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
btw, I want Kiffin to stay.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
awww man .. now Aso too?
the Curse of Chuckie
September 26th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
I want Kiffin to stay also…firing him now is one more thing to keep us at the barrel of the barrel on and on…
September 26th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
make that, bottom of the barrel…
September 26th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
The Raiders have to be the most beat-up team in the league, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. Hopefully a few unexpected men will rise to the occasion on Sunday, or we are on thin ice with hot boots…
September 26th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
It almost seems like we are cursed… maybe the curse will be broken once Al steps down.
Namdi being hurt sucks.
You can bet if he doesn’t play Rob will be very conservative with his play calling.
However, I’m not saying we should make a permanent switch to it, but I think because of all our injuries in defense, a 3-4 gameplan for this game might not be a bad idea.
Front 3 - Kelly, Sands, Burgess or Richardson.
mid 4 - Morrison, Howard, Brown, Burgess or Richardson
cbs - Routt, Hall
s - Wilson, Huff
Bring constant pressure from at least 1 of our mid 4s but I would prefer bringing pressure with 2.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
We can’t win. If Davis fires Kiffin, he’ll bring in another neutered toadie, and the fecesocrity will continue.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
Its easy to kick somebody when they’re down, but its about time we start doing the kicking
September 26th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Looking tougher and tougher for the Raiders to win this one. Kiffin is done…Too bad…I think the Raiders were actually starting to build a team from the ground up for the first time in 30 years.
Back to retread coaches….Back to a bunch of free agents…..Back to filling the roster with “ME” players like Javon Walker….Nnamdi will beat a path out of here….New offense for Russell….Wow
Man! Its tough being a Raider fan
September 26th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Stop kidding yourselve emraider, Al will never step down unless he wins another ring or dies
September 26th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
The NFL should take the Raiders into receivership
September 26th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
anyone hear from dennis green yet?
September 26th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Want Kiff to stay? Kiff must win.
Does Ryan want to stay? He must field a viable defense for 4-FULL-quarters.
Want Al to retire? Kiff (or his replacement) needs to win the Super Bowl first. Then, just maybe, Al will walk very slowly away.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I know Al won’t step down. I don’t think anyone here really believes that he will. We are all just wishing he did… or at least that he realizes that maybe the decision making skills he has now might not be the best ones for the team… but what do we know, we are just life time fans that have seen patterns develop in the last 15 years or so… we don’t know really much of what it takes to be Al Davis. Only he does.

Al Davis’ bad karma.

September 26th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Want to be in Al’s shoes? You’ve got to put up 19 wins in 5 seasons. Then talk.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
HayesDaze#37,
This is going to be a tough game. It ridiculous that Davis can’t see the following:
1. Very young team at key positions
2. The team has played very competitively (hopefully Sunday too)
3. Team hasn’t quit the coach (unlike the past coaches)
4. Implementing a new offense is not very easy…especially for a young QB
5. Kiffin is learning as he goes and is a good coach that is getting better
6. No one of any credibility will want to coach for him…
7. Team still has holes at Wide Receiver, and Offensive Tackle
8. His defensive coordinator doesn’t call a good game
September 26th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Who cares about Newberrybackup’s opinion anyway, even though he is right it’s nothing new. At least show a little respect for the man who overpaid for you in the first place, FATTY.

September 26th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

h.daze
I think your missing the point of the article. Wins and losses is great in determingn the make up of a coach and team but too many times its personal likes and dislikes of an owner.
nothing is black n white- politics in the organization is preventing any coach to create a winning atmosphere. Thats more important than putting on silver n black and being proud or just being a raider nowadays.
what kind of winning coach will come here!?
September 26th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
AL DAVIS is HEALTHIER than the TEAM…hes a Black Wizard
September 26th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
#28, S&B — That’s a good list, and there are lots of other things this team has going for/against it that aren’t listed. But, to assume Al doesn’t see everything on that list would be incorrect. Whether or not he addresses them all to our satisfaction is another thing.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Joe Bugel might be willing to come back
September 26th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
You would think the man would address what he sees, no?
September 26th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
agree with S&B-COLL on post #28
September 26th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Oh, Al’s going to hire the exact same coach, just witha different name? I see.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
FAST MEL.
Your right. The offense will just be run by Napp or Lofton or whoever calls the plays.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
He should hire one of the posters amongst us……..
September 26th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
I will be the coach.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Bully,
You are probably right……….
September 26th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
This was supposed to be a good year, this soap opera is really a distraction to the players and is wearing on the fans. SAVE KIFFIN
September 26th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Has Fabian WAsghinton come out and said anything about the Raiders when he was traded- curious?
hes looking good now
September 26th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Of course Al loves this sheit, it’s the only thing he’s good for at this point in his life.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Wow Aso dinged, now that is a bag of reds.
Thanks, for the update Jerry Mac. Way to cheer us up.
JaVonn stepping it up? LO effin L…
September 26th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Koolkell,
Kiffin isn’t the only coach to run a west coast offense with a ZBS. The only thing that would change would be the terminology, in fact the next coach could just leave the playcalling to Knapp and it would make for a seamless transition.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
I just hope it doesnt end up with me and whoever here volunteers in an hostage hold- up scenario where we storm the “building”..
Project MAyhem- remove AL and his jumpsuits, walker, etc
September 26th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

Don’t be ridiculous.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Time to turn Miller loose in the passing game.FIRE WALKER
September 26th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
FoolKell you couldn’t coach your way out of a paper bag.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
It’s time for Kiffin to win with what he has, and then we won’t need guys like Joe Bugel to come back.
Kiffin picked a lot of these players, and a lot of these coaches (HIS words). Even positions of strength are now questionable — and at least some of that has to do with coaching, schemes, and personnel decisions during games. The sudden lack of depth at RB is a perfect example of poor personnel decisions, without a doubt adding to the injury toll.
If the Raiders were a thouroughbred race horse, the trainer would be held accountable for the (avoidable) breakdowns — not the owner.
September 26th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Fool kell have you tried to contact Kiffin’s wife yet about selling their home?
September 26th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
AL DAVIS could live to be hundred…then what?
September 26th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
What is your point Big E? So what if he lives to be 100, we will still worship him because he is the Raiders. And you aren’t a true fan if you don’t support Al Davis.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
It sounds to me that yous guys would like a certain owner of a certain football organization to disappear. Why dont yous get some moneys in a pile and give old Sid a call. I may knows some guys who can make your problem go aways, if you knows what i means.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
HayzeDaze,
The Raiders are not a fukin horse, ok? They’re supposed to be a football team. That analogy of yours is whacked.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

September 26th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
HayesDaze#37,
Just asking Al to look at reality. I can’t convince him to keep Kiffin, Davis has made up his mind…I just hope that whoever the new coach is, they don’t treat JaMarcus and the offense like Art Shell treated Andrew Walter and the o-line in 2006.
Walter sure as hell didn’t deserve that treatment
September 26th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
This team needs to show up and compete this weekend. I cant stomach another stompin similar to the Denver game.
If we can keep them to under 17 pts, then we will have a shot.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
If your not with us your against us, sound familiar?
September 26th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
My major concern this week is the players health. Mcfadden should NOT have even suited up last week. The coaches should have given his turf toe three weeks to heal. Any coach worth his salt would have not even had him suited up last week.
In this case, what does Kiffin care if this injury hampers him all year, the last thing Kiffin wants is for the Raiders to play well after he is fired. Think about it.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Dude you are the one who sent rock salt into the house of Sigfried and Roy, and you are calling me racist?

September 26th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Oakglenn, You will be the only Raider fan around if Al lives to 100. We’ve been suffering long enough. Al is out of touch with the NFL. He wastes money on a guy like Javon Walker, but won’t pay for a GM or a Head Coach.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Actually Big E — It’s my opinion that the best all-around RB we have on the team, Michael Bush, has been underused. I also think McFadden is in when Bush should be. I don’t think Fargas should’ve been streaking downfield when he tore his groin. I don’t think Javon Walker should be on the filed if he’s not ready, it only slows down his recovery. I don’t think the right receivers are being played, currently.
Those are all just my opinion…but they are all coaching decisions that directly impact the players’ performances, and most certainly affect the players’ health.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:09 pm

September 26th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
the owner is responsible for this mess.
Kiffin with no nfl-experience “recruited” a decent NFL coaching staff- which was a skill that helped get the job
Rathman and cable are among the league to be well respected and desired coached when made available.
ITs amazing how people interpet having an average o-line in pass blocking a rookie qb(less than a season) and an overpaind wounded WR in WALKER ( totally Davis) as inferior coaching. (idiots gather around)
This coach is coaching them up and they p[ay hard despite the BS.
ITS ok I used not wantto look at AL a the cancer and just be a reg. fan but its obvious now!
KIFFIN drafter DMAC RUSSEL and MILLER and BUSH…MORE THAN exeeds the PAST
September 26th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Good then Raider J, I will be the only REAL fan while the rest of you pathetic losers root for the new expansion team in Albuquerque New Mexico.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Oakglenn, it seems to me that the true Raider fans these days are the ones who are tired of Davis’ bullsh*t. You can go on adoring him, but what that says to me is that you don’t care about winning.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Support and worship Al Davis, or LEAVE the Raider Nation.

Besides the usual “Al Davis is the Raiders” and “Al Davis is a legend” and “Al Davis has done a lot of good things for the league”, which by the way are things we all agree on, what other things can you think of to still back him up and support his decisions today?
This is directed to all who still want to support Al Davis. And this has nothing to do with whether Kiffin stays or goes. This is solely a question about why Al Davis still deserves your loyalty.

Yes he should sit out. I also didn’t think he should have played against Buffalo. Turf toe only heals by staying off your feet for 2 or 3 weeks. Trying to play on it week to week does two lousy things:
1. Player performs at 75 to 80% and really cant help the team.
2. The injury never heals
Sit DMAC down and let Bush carry the ball.

Dude — Who has said Kiffin’s fired? Not Al. I don’t think Al’s made up his mind…and a win this Sunday will probably go a long way in helping him decide which way to go.
Secondly — Andrew Walter didn’t deserve the treatment he got from Art or your boy Kiffin. Kiffin never gave Andrew the shot he EARNED to lead the team last year. Kiffin not playing Andrew Walter last year was terrible coaching, but I was willing to overlook it for awhile, thinking he had a broader plan. Instead, Walter was wasted on the bench, when this team could’ve used his considerable talent to find a few more wins.

Are you kidding? If good ol’ Vinnie bought the Raiders he would try to bring back the XFL, or better yet, he would try to bring back the NWO with all Raider players as members… and here comes Hollywood Hogan part 2 as the HC… with Nash as the OC and Hall (razor ramon, not D.Hall) as the DC… this is sounding more and more like a good idea. I say DO IT!
September 26th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Last year Walter Worked- something alot of pros dont so they EXPECT a shot- thats why Walter has improved his game to astyle that requires roll-outs and agility both weakneses he has indeed improved. Theres no drama in that its called the NFL.
Hes our backup he wasnt traded. what more than that do you want- he took most of the work in preseason.
I bet your mad Kiffn let go Mike Williams..what does Kiffin know anyhow he has his rb roatation all mixed up.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
HayesDaze37 - Get real. We all know Kiff will be fired after the game. Even if the Raiders stomped the Chargers, he will be let go - so he can spend some quality time with his prego wife and kids.
So be it.

No actually I think the insanity goes further then this blog, it continues to the Media Room at the team facilities, and spreads to the White House and The house of COngres and these bank failures……..What is the Tyrant gonna do now? All of his money was in WAMU and he was only FDIC Insured 100K. Crap, guess we have to have a car wash to hire a new coach…….

Man, I hate San Diego.
Full strength starting line for the 1st time this year.
C Harwick’s back.
And their starting LT is back after missing games w/ a neck stinger.
Ho boy uh.
Can Fred Wakefiled shut L.T. or Sproles down? Or will it matter because the best QB rating in the League isn’t Cutler’s, its Phillip Rivers.
Back ups can’t do much worse than Hall. Unless Hall’s in there with them.
I hate San Diego.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Big E, you said:
“..if fargas catches the pass and score theres non issue. Anyone can second guess everything.”
———————————
That’s exactly my point.
Fargas is a human pinball, he is not Cliff Branch. There was little chance he was going to pull away from the faster DB in that situation. The coaches should be putting the right players in the game, matching specific plays to their skills.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Charged up - Are you going to the game?

Time to sit Dmac and Nnamdi…this season was over in January so we might as well not injure our decent players any further. We don’t stand a chance against SD even if those two play, so just sit them and hope they can go in week 6 IMO.
Sorry Kiffin…you were going to get fired no matter what after this game anyhow…please don’t cause further damage to two of our best players.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Yeah DisCharge….are u going to the game?
September 26th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
From Bill Simmon’s ESPN power poll
27. Oakland Raiders
Normally, I wouldn’t care how dysfunctional the Raiders are, but when they tried to bully Tim Kawakami this week, that’s when I start taking it personally. You don’t do that to Tim Kawakami! OK? All right? You do NOT do that to Tim Kawakami! THIS NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF AL DAVIS WAS STILL ALIV. LOL
September 26th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
103.
They “LOST” $700 billion dollars? Who found it? Cui Bono? “Who benefits?”
This is one more rape job by the f’in Republicans. They are actually going to chage the law so they can drive us from 10 to 11 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT.
Thief in the night.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Hell yeah, I’m going to the game.

Your making valid points just bing critical though. I can see you sitting next to Davis in the box.
I bet that play was a third read and the wr wasnt open down the field. Yeah the coaching in this game will have to be tighter for sure.

Dakota,
If Nnamdi was thinking about next year, he would have sat out from practice today……I would if my future was uncertain without that contract….although come on, any team in the NFL would love to have this guy……..I bet next offseason if the Tyrant puts the exclusive Franchise on him again , he will sit out until he signs the deal that says he will not sign the Franchise the following year and there would have to be a long term deal or he would book it…..
September 26th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
now this is the real DAKOTA unlike previous blog

Big E — I didn’t say ALL of Kiffin’s decisions are wrong, just some of them. Just like all of Al’s decisions aren’t wrong, just some of them. Hold Al accountable? Sure. But, be honest and hold ‘em all accountable.

One paper mention Herrera as usually a nice guy. Is the pr guy the snake or is it Herrera?
September 26th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
HayesDaze#37,
I really believe Kiffin is out. Hopefully the media and all that stuff turns out to be false. Just that Kiffin and Davis have been going at it for a while.
On Andrew Walter…He was treated poorly by Kiffin and Davis last year. First, I agree with you, he should have been given the opportunity to play last year. Especially given that he outperformed the free agent lacheys we had last year. Then, they should have traded him if they had no intention of playing him.
During the ‘07 draft, I wasn’t against drafting Calvin Johnson and going with Walter for the 2nd year. Although I am happy with JaMarcus Russell as a pick. However, Kiffin/Davis (or whoever made the pick) had a right to draft/replace players that fit the scheme. Russell rollout capability and arm strength won over Kiffin / Davis…Plus Walter did some things that p^ssed off Kiffin.
That’s why firing Kiffin is a mistake. Russell, Miller, DMAC and the O-Line fits what Kiffin and Knapp are trying to do. By the way, Davis had to have signed off on this offensive approach when he hired him.
The game Sunday has the potential to get ugly in light of the injuries…Its reality…I hope Davis sticks with Kiffin and lets him grow with his young QB, RB and Tight End

408….I hear ya on the busy stuff…..I am short alot in Gross Margin right now for the region and there is some pressure to get it in, but the economy is not allowing us any flexability with our projects to squeeze any more out…..We will have to see bro……times are tough…….its hard to blog and work on contracts……
September 26th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Has anyone else noticed that for the last two years, the Raiders don’t seem to have a very good system for substituting the running backs? Last year, Fargas would bust a good gain, usually ending in a big collision, and they never seemed to give him a blow. They just kept him in there, even when he was visably winded, and just keep giving him the rock. They did the same thing with Mcfadden in the KC game. In my opinion, that’s how players get hurt or make mistakes. I’m not saying, take him out after every big gain or hit, but you can’t expect an NFL running back to take himself out of a game.
Is it just me or what?

Chaos,
Woodson all over again…hey, he calls Woodson all of the time and you know Woodson is whispering in his ear: “Hey Nnamdi, get out of Oakland ASAP. You wouldn’t believe the professionalism and class that other NFL teams display.”
September 26th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Tend to get pesimistic after too many beers but…..
……I have a terrible feeling about Sunday.
The Chargers are healthy and appear to have found the light switch. Given their talent level that’s worrying enough as it is. With 21 hurting, Warren out, burgess in hampered, O-Line gaps, Fargas out, McFadden limping etc
I have a bad feeling about this.
Incidently if this injury list isn’t a coaches game and these guys are actually as badly beat up as it seems then, unless I see us mail it in, I’m gonna give both Kiff and Ryan an exemption on the scoreboard.
Hoping I’m very wrong
tolworth
ps if anyone takes this Sunday’s result as a defining game for our coaching staff given the injury list and opposition then they’re drunker than I am. (Al - no exemption)
September 26th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Hell, I think Al’s mom is still alive- at 104 and counting…
September 26th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Dakota…….Exactly what I was afraid of…..That is the scenerio that would have everyone absolutely turned off….Can you imagine if Nnamdi left, who would fill the void? He is the face of that defense, regardless of what anyone thinks….
September 26th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
70 million and we got another Philip Buchanon on our hands, minus the punt returns.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Nnamdi will make his $10-mil next year right here in Oakland.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
I will say this Tol…….Bad News Bears and look at Oregon State last night…..As much as I am pissed at the results of the team not showing up, the chargers running back said this week that their team can’t be distracted at everything that is going on in our org right now….because thats what bonds a team to be closer together…….and he also said that they could get killed if they came to our house not focused……you cant tell me that Rivers will come out focused……….thats where the fans in the 130’s need to get under his skin……….

Yeah, Oakland will franchise Nnamdi once more, but those yearly 20% raises start eating your cap space when part of it is not spread out over a long-term contract in the form of a signing bonus….
Big E…I don’t know about Herrera, except what he has said and done, and even that Kawakami said he is a nice guy…I just think he is a Al Davis stooge, and has been for a very very long time.

I think saying WALTER was treated unfairly is pretty dramatic. Walter was well known for hanging his head. ( we all agree the debacle with Shell wansnt his fault)
I like how Kiffin doeasnt massgae egos and is Ant-scholarship. When hes outspokes players should be wise to listen because theres truth and substance-real analysis being done and not BLOG tallking behind it.
WE have Russell and to try to make an issue in regard to Walter is why you are the coach dont coach and talk about it instead of undesdtanding it.
Besides AL wanted Culpepper.
Also when Kiffin says” walter out played the others in practice hes pumpipng him up giving a vote of confidence for his work know- you can take him so litteral all the time.
HOw can you suggest any NFL coach doesnt pout the best player in the best position to win. These coaches PREACH matchups and being competitive..except when AL INTERFERS as hes done for decades.

Melvin
we have personal coming in and out all the time especially from thr RBS.
Fargas was staying in with DMAC before he got hurt. Fargas is better in pass blocking -picking up blitzes.
I am not sure I ve seen BUSH alot on third downs. L:Ast game when he had the rock on third down the defense knew run was coming- part of the problem last week and why Kiffin nees to call MIllers number more.
it seems to me we dont see many drag routes across the middle by our recievers.
It will be intersting to see this game unfold.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
post 72 HayesDaze37,I couldnt agree more.Kiff is young and still learning and not using his personell correctly. No way in hell should Dmac have played last week or this.Let Bush pound it 25-30 times and let Jmac bomb the hell out of em

Dakota - Exactly.

You think thats really the best thing to do to a rookie? Oh wait, 2 Rookies? Thats playing the talent correctly?
September 26th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Big E,
Good point on the hanging of the head. Kiffin didn’t like him for it. I also like Russell. Where they treated Walter badly was having him listed as the number 4 QB. They really should have traded him last year. That wasn’t fair. He’s not part of the future and he is still a young QB. If he’s not part of your plans, let him go and maybe get a draft pick for him.
I am a Kiffin fan. I like how he is developing Russell and how he has the team working for everything and taking nothing for granted.
Unfortunately, Davis is going to fire him and bring in James Lofton or Rob Ryan…..and we will be back in the Art Shell, Mike White, Bill Callahan mode.

—————————-
All due respect, E — but Al hasn’t been interfering with his coaches (by their own words), for at least the past 3-4 weeks.
I think…no matter how tough it is to have someone constantly looking over your shoulder, you still gotta produce. Kiffin’s time has come, and he needs to find a way. It’s time for this team to find its attitude, and it better be a winning one.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
shes hott
September 26th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Big E - Thanks for responding. I was mostly talking about the way they handled Fargas last year. If you are at the game it isn’t as obvious, but if you are watching on TV you could see that Fargas needed to be spelled at times and the just kept giving him the ball. I was screaming at the TV every Sunday, ” Get him out of there.” I just think when players are gassed, they tend to get get hurt. That’s why I think Mcfadden got caught from behind in the KC game.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
408 is gonna get very drunk off Patron in an effort to numb the reality!!!

I just want this circus to end ASAP for the good of the players.

September 26th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
HayesDayz,
The only thing I ask is that the Raiders evaluate Kiffin at the END of the year….not the end of the 1st QTR of the year
Anything less is lunacy. Why can’t Davis put off all this drama until the end of the year.

HAYESDAZE
I dont have a problem with the personell decesions by the coach. This team has no depth- doent AL sin FAS- he over paid for Walker and others so thats has to do with this team more than the last few weeks.
Not playing MCfadden is one of the funniest things on this blog today. I would fire a coach if he did that. You had to let DMAC give it ago last week. He spaind to play - paid to make plays- and hgis presence has to be there period. non -isue, unfortunatley his toe will be messed up for the whole season.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Off to an early start huh 408? Patron Silver is the only tequilla worth drinking
September 26th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
All this injury news, is putting a serious dampener on my buzz.
Jerry, quit being a party pooper.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Dakota,
If Rob Ryan is named HC then you know Davis is only in it for the ego.
Rob Ryan should be fired. He’s been here for 5 years and our pass defense is ranked 26th with all that experienced talent.
Kiffin’s been here for 1.18 years and his job is on the line if they don’t beat the Chargers.
I hope these rumors of an impending firing are just rumors
September 26th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
as the world turns soap opera
heres hoping for the best.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
I don’t believe saying Kiffin is safe for the rest of the year will stop any of the talk about it…so, what would be the point? Nobody in the organization should be exhaling a sigh of relief any time soon, anyway. Time for them all to COLLECTIVELY (ha ha, I made a funny!) find a way to win a ball game. Then, they can collectively find a way to get above .500 …
September 26th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Big E - What is funny about giving McFadden’s toe a chance to heal so he is 100% for the rest of the season?
September 26th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
The biggest advantage the Raiders have this weekend is the fact that Norv Turner is on the opposing sideline.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I work in the financial industry and the Raiders are my favorite team. It’s been a fun couple of weeks
September 26th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
This is all the reason why I’m all for blitzing to apply pressure on qb’s. We put too much on our down 4 to create pressure thus everyone is getting injured. We need to free the big guys sometimes for one on ones. Ryan acts like he can’t see that. Our big guys up front aren’t in tip top shape yet, and we must continue to bring extra db’s on blitzes. The way we’re coaching right now, we may lose alot of our key players on both sides of the ball. We must understand this and prepare accordingly. We must adjust better offensively and defensively if we’re gonna ever be a good team.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
HayesDaze#37,
But the distraction is enough. Everyone knows that Kiffin has to win to keep his job. This week to week stuff is garbage. Its another distraction for the players and is not helpful.
It also puts Davis and his antics front and center everyday. Now, Davis is going to have a real tough time luring the type of coach that can be successful.
Sure he can bring in the next Mike White or Art Shell. Bring in the next Joe Bugel or Bill Callahan. Hell, give me a call, I’ll take $2 million per year. But will any of these guys (me included) help the Raiders win football games? Will they develop JaMarcus Russell?
More likely we lose games and watch JaMarcus Russell take a beating like our last young QB Andrew Walter did in 2006.
Then we bring in another veteran. Probably a Rex Grossman, Jon Kitna, Byron Leftwich who will give Russell some “guidance”. More double digit losses later and……….
September 26th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
The Raiders need to:
1. Sit Mcfadden
2. Have someone suited up to back up Bush in the event Mcfadden can’t go.
3. Stop telling the rest of the league about the details of the players injurys.
September 26th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Hey Kev when you say “our big guys up front aren’t in tip-top shape yet” , I think you can leave out the yet, they just aren’t in good shape period. Although Kelly has played all right so far, nowhere up to his contract but solid
September 26th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

September 26th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Raiderkev25,
That’s a good angle. Maybe the stress on the front four is leading to all those injuries. The double teams, chips that the front four are taking has to be hurting them. And to get little help from a blitz probably adds to it.
Rushing 4 with little or no chance of a blitz gives the O-Line and QB less to worry about
September 26th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Agree that McFadden should sit. Turf toe only heals by resting it. let Bush run the ball. No point in trotting out McFadden at 75 - 80%. Let him heal so that he can be the superweapon for the rest of the year

Oakglenn, I was wrong about you. I think your comments as of late have been dead on. Seems to me you are one of the few people on this blog that understands football enough to see when things are not moving in the right direction. I agree with you that the defense is really coming around and after Kiffin is let go, I have high hopes for the offense as well.
Just Win Baby.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
Hilarious Fire Kiffin. Funny thing, you would hope “Lance” would grow into the head coach position. That’s what we all hoped. In some ways, I think he is regressing. Look at what Kiff said about the decent job Mario Henderson performed at LT while Harris was hurt. “We’re all glad Harris is back.” Huh? So when Kwame goes out again in the first four minutes of the game because a defender breathed on him, which will probably end Harris’s season, what do you then say to Mario??? Go get “em tiger?? We’re glad you’re back in there?? As I wrote Shanahan went for two in a message to his team and especially his QB that he believed in them. When has Kiffin EVER, EVER, said he believed in any of them?? “Lance” is better at throwing a tantrum and then pouting and blaming others.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
OG he seems to be leaving me alone.. So maybe its safe for you also.. here goes the 4th shot of Patron Silver and 2nd Negra Modelo…

Oakglen,
Funny you using Shanahan as a reference. Seems like a certain owner thought he couldn’t cut it
September 26th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
i partially agree with ya oakglenn, the way kiffin was comming down on mario henderson was like the man didnt belong in the league….he came in and played extremely well for us, I personally was proud of him for the way he handled himself out there, and kiffin didnt give him ENOUGH praise he deserves, if any thing Kiffin should apologize to the man for painting him be an extreme looser, all we as fans heard was how horrible he was and we didnt get a chance to really see the guy……at least he proved that he can be affective
September 26th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
I agree Oakglenn. I think Al was trying to shake Lance up a little this past offseason, hoping the pressure would instill a sense of urgency in young Lance and bring out the competitor in him. Instead he folded like a cheap suit.
“He’s not the guy I hired.” Al Davis - Translation, He cracked under the pressure.
Just Win Baby.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
People keep bashing Javon as if he is doing this on purpose, as though he is the one not doing his job. When he go in to the Buffalo game he instatly had 2 catches for 18 yards, why not get him the ball more??? he is being paid like he is our #1 receiver but gets passes thrown to him like he is a #4wr, Kiffins playcalling thus far has been number two. This is the NFL you can’t cuddle a grown man, if Russell is our QB of the future then he needs to be given the reigns. Im not saying throw him to the wolves, but ge sat his year as we wanted and now its time for him to step up. Like Carson, Daunte, Mcnair and countless others before him, he has had his chance to sit and watch and now it is time for him to get baptized in fire. He can’t from his mistakes if he is being kept from amking any. Kiffin looks to be more interested in keeping games close, adding to his job security than he is attempting to turn this offense around and truly develop a young QB. You may say that Kiffin knows more about developing a QB than i do so who am I to question his methods, and this is true. But thus far when it comes to pro Qb’s Kiffin has to his credit Leinart and Booty, or as I call them strikes 1 and 2. With OUR Qb he’s working on strike 3.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
i dunno SRB i think that walker just cant get open IMHO yeah he caught 2 passes in the first quarter but what about the rest of the game? yeah we ran the ball alot but tell me why when we do try and pass Jruss cant find the open man? no one gets separation the only person jruss has gotten attached to is Lelie , Curry isnt as reliable this year, and walker……you just dont know what we’re gonna get out of him. Id like to see todd watkins shillens and JLH because our starters are not getting it done

I think Walker left the game shortly after he caught a couple passes didn’t he? I think he tweaked the hammy.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Severeraider,
I think the goal is to minimize mistakes and put the team in a position to win. Against Buffalo, the Raiders were in position to win!
September 26th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
And nothing has changed Newberry!
September 26th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Fluffy, That’s great, but what does that have to do with the Raiders?
September 26th, 2008 at 5:52 pm

The goal IS to win, not look like we could have won. If kiffin gives us correct clock management and more aggressive playcalling we absolutely win.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
I think he tweaked a hammy too, like one poster onhere said this is one of the worst FA signings worse than Barry Zito! lol

Wow, lot’s of injuries already. Nnamdi, get in line with Darren and get your shot my man! I absolutely do NOT want to see Hall trying to “cover” Chambers all day. Uggghhhhhh….
September 26th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
We didn’t lose against Buffalo because of a timeout with 30 seconds left.
We lost because the offense and defense couldn’t protect a 9 point lead with 5 minutes left.
I don’t think its fair to put all the blame on Kiffin and totally leave the defense blameless.
The bottomline is that this Raider team had a chance to win a game on the road and didn’t finish.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Indeed S&B. Edwards made some unbelievable throws with pressure directly in his face about 5 times in that 4 min span.
With all of this media Al/Lane drama sometimes you forget that other teams just play really well. I’m not one of them of course!
September 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
yes but their young and they will learn 2 win on the road
September 26th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
BTW, don’t bother watching the Presidential debate. These guys don’t ever answer a freekn question. Blowin smoke
They should put Kiffin up there to answer the questions. At least he won’t sugarcoat
September 26th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
The fourth quarter wouldn’t have mattered if the offense would have converted great field position into TD’s rather than FG’s in the first quarter.
Just Win Baby.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
I guess scoring 2 TD’s and 3 FG’s on the road against a VERY good defense and having a 9 point lead with 5 mins to play doesn’t get it done for you FK. Must be the offenses fault. You know what, they should fire Kiffin. Oh wait, that’s your user name!! Weird…
September 26th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Huff24
No, Walker was fine, he and Kiffin said as much. The reason that Kiffin gave for Walker not getting more balls was, “there wasn’t enough passes to go around” he says that as if he is helpless and not the one calling the plays.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Severeraider - Well…Maybe Jamarcus is blind then? Kiffin calls the plays but JR has to be the one to find the receivers. Maybe its JR that isn’t living up to the playcalling vs. the other way around. If you noticed, JR is throwing every pass with mach 3 speed. He doesn’t seem to be completely comfortable.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
FIRE KIFFIN,
If I recall, the Raiders did try to throw the ball into the endzone on the first drive that was set up by the JLH kickoff return.
Russell had to throw the passes away. Scoring in the red zone is tough to do. That’s why there is a statistic to keep track of it. They took away field goals. So what. The Raiders offense scored a TD when it mattered most.
Look, when the offense matures, maybe if McFadden was healthy, a few of those FGs would be a TD.
The defense gave up a 106 yard TD drive in the 4th quarter that lasted over 8 minutes. The defense gave up a 2nd TD (67 yds) in 2.5 minutes. Then the defense gave up a field goal at the end of the game. All of this in the 4th QTR.
Yet the offense gets 100% of the blame!??!?
The team is moving in the right direction. Let’s give Kiffin at least to the end of the year to see what we’ve got
September 26th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
In my opinion, the defense and special teams deserves the credit for the three field goals. One of the TD’s was set up by the interception by Hall on the ten yard line. And Russell’s fumble set up one of the TD’s scored by Buffalo.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
“S&B - Nation Collective Says:
We didn’t lose against Buffalo because of a timeout with 30 seconds left.”
- Of course we didn´t lose because Kiffin didn´t call his 2 Timeouts.
But he gave away a chance to win it.
It may have been a longshot, but you never give up as long as there is a chance.
Lindell has not missed a kick inside the 40 since 2005 seasons, Coaches know that kind of stuff, at that point Kiffin should have assumed that Lindell was gonna convert and he should have tried to save some time for our best unit so far this season, our Special Teams.
Had he called his timeouts we would have had a chance to get the ball back with about 30 seconds or so.
30 seconds may not be much, but when you have a guy like Johnnie Lee Higgins to return the Kick-Off and you have the Kicker with the strongest leg in the NFL….you have a better chance than most.
Kiffin didn´t provide us with that chance.
Had this been any other coach he would have gotten plenty of heat from fans and the media, I don´t even wanna imagine what they would be saying if it had been Herm Edwards.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
FK,
Right, so a rookie QB fumbling the ball is grounds to fire the HC. How many receptions did Hall give up in the 4th quarter???
This is an extremely young team on offense. All of the vets are on the defensive side of the ball, and they played one hell of a 3 quarter game. Maybe if we had more depth at the DT position things would have come out better. Of course the HC is responsible for the personnel on The Raiders, right FK?
September 26th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Get him hope monger!!!
September 26th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Marley - Do you still think my name is “idiotic”?
Come to think of it, I will be needing a new handle after Sunday.
Do you have any suggestions?
I love Bob Marley but I am more of a Dylan man myself.
Just Win Baby.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
This week is going to be really tough. That sucks too. We just don’t have the offensive firepower to match The Chargers right now. And with all of the injuries it would be a huge upset for us to take this game. If we lose I can’t wait to read all of the genius comments about why we should fire Kiffin again.
But you never know. LT, Sproles, Rivers, Gates and Chambers could all go down with injuries in the first half. Go Raiders!!
September 26th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Saint Kauffman - My name has been FIRE KIFFIN since the Texans game last year.
Just Win Baby.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Here is a link to an article on BSPN about how Russell is effected by all of this.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?id=3610593&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab7pos2
September 26th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
FIRE KIFFIN…..LOL.
Did I ever say that about your “name”?.
Anyway, I like Kiffin but I don´t know what to think anymore, it´s a complex issue.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Saint,
Get outta of here lol. The defense might as well have scored everyone of those points besides the JLH catch. Our avg field position was on the 40 yard line. There is no way that we should get that good of field position and not get 6. Prior to the Higgins strike our only TD came as a direct result of a defensive take away, pitiful to say the least. Also Kiffin handled the clock like a novice, for all iof his intelligence he still can’t get the job done under pressure.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Keep the faith Marley. The complex issue will be resolved after Sunday’s game.
Just Win Baby.
September 26th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Oakglenn is really AL DAVIS, the man himself!! Greetings Al/Oakglenn!! We’re glad you are reading the criticism of yourinsane managing style and trying to refute them!!…RIP……Just whine, Baby!!
September 26th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
I think you guys are underestimating playing Buffalo in Buffalo. But hey, if you can find a little more meat on that horse, kick away!!
September 26th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Bob Marley,
The defense had given up 40 yds and was tired. Kiffin’s thinking was that if we used up the timeouts, the only result would be Buffalo marching closer to a field goal and running out the clock.
The choice was a 37 yd FG (when the kicker missed a 45 yarder)
or a 25 yard chip shot.
Kiffin’s decision was as valid as using the timeouts
September 26th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
FIRE KIFFIN,
I am going to go ahead and claim the name:
1. FIRE LOFTON
2. FIRE RYAN
3. SIGN GROSSMAN
Because if we fire Kiffin like you want, one of those three monikers will be next to grace this board.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
wow, kiffins new t.e. down and out, smart move sniffin troupe out already, cut john madsen one of the best sets of hands on the team , bring in troupe a player madsen would run circles around and also not a problem child like troupe, i also heard sniffin cut madsen and none of the other coaches even knew till they were in buffalo, wow, is madsen a davis guy is that why that happened also watkins we hear had the best camp and preseason and he is inactive for 4 weeks. any way kiffin you will be fired after this sunday and mabey somebody can right this ship… i will be there in section 120 row 29 but i dont know for how long i say good luck raiders but with kiffin its going yo take more than luck
September 26th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
S&B,
The point of the timeouts was to use the earlier on so assuming that the Bills scored, which they did, it would leave the offense with the hope of a good return, which were plentiful that game, and a few quick strikes to the sideline we could get a the very least a 55yard attempt from the newly automatic Janikowski. Damn that was a run-on sentence lol.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
If? LOL!!!
I don’t follow you on SIGN GROSSMAN.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
www,
Madsen had caught the case of the dropsies and was not a natural TE. troupe is a much better TE than is Madsen, is bigger, and much more physical, the guy can actually hold a block when he wants to. He is every bit the athelete that Madsen is and then some.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Severe,
Your assumption on the time outs only would have worked if the Bills couldn’t get another first down. They would have. and easily. They were moving the ball at will, and if all else they would just throw to Hall’s side of the field. I think they ran off like 5 first downs in a row on us in those 2 final drives with one of them being a TD.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Severeraider,
The defense was giving up chunks of yards. The Bills were content to run down the clock and not run any plays. Had we called the timeout, they would have run more plays to get the clock down. Kiffin didn’t want to turn a 37 yd attempt into a 25 yard chip shot.
That’s all…Again, we didn’t lose the game because of a timeout.
We lost because the offense couldn’t get a 1st down and we lost because the defense couldn’t stop anybody in the 4th QTR
September 26th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Hey FK,
If your dream scenario comes true how about FIRE HALL?
BTW, I know you’ve been at it since last year. Just don’t let your hate for Kiffin cloud the obvious. The defense gave up 17 points in the 4th quarter!! Maybe something to do with only having 3 DT’s on the roster. Oh, I know, let’s put a converted TE there. Come on man!!
September 26th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
FIRE KIFFIN,
I said “SIGN GROSSMAN” to suggest that when a new retread “WIN NOW” coach gets here and treats Russell like Shell treated Walter, that people will be clamoring for a veteran to replace a battered and bruised Russell.
Maybe a poor attempt at humor……Too bad Kiffin will be fired.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Later Nation…Prez Debate is over and headed out now
September 26th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Timeouts? Kiffin dropped the ball with timeouts left at the end of the 2nd quarter, too.
At the end of the first half…needing about 30-35 yards to at least get Jano* into position for a long FG attempt…..we sat on more than 30-seconds on the clock, with timeouts on the board. That’s not being careful — that’s being un-aggressive, and therefor setting a bad tone.
Kiff’s clock-management needs to improve at the ends of both halves of the game. 60-or more-minutes of clock to use — make good use of it.
In Buffalo — would a Raiders FG at the end of the first half have meant anything? You bet it would’ve. Instead, we didn’t even try.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
*Jano’s having a great year, so far. It would be nice if the offense caught up to him, and we all prospered.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!Even Ol’ Elway cant stay away from the raiders past.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
After Buffalo scored their last touchdown and pulled within two we had two possible chances of winning the game. One was to move the ball, get first downs, and ice the clock. The other was for Buffalo to make a mistake and turn the ball over. The defense holding them on downs was probably less than a five percent chance. The way Buffalo was stacking the line of scrimmage we should have come out throwing.
September 26th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Y’all be cool.
Off to the movies.
Go Raiders!!
September 26th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
One reason the Raiders might actually beat the Chargers: JLH. I’m beginning to think he’s the most dangerous return man in the league.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
you see. just to think we mostly wrote JLH off and now look at him. a prime example of how JR could be after a year
September 26th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Kid — JLH is one of the best return guys in the NFL, certainly one of the most explosive. All these young-ish guys need to step up now — like JLH has — it’s time.
Why isn’t anybody talking about getting Cedrick Benson in here for a look-see?
Al’s not one to usually let a “salvage-able” player with talent get by without having a peek at him…even if we’re stacked at a position.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I predict Kiffin will not get fired Monday win or loose. He will finish out the year and then if the team has shown significant progress he will be retained for next year. Hopefully Cable can be persueded to stick around too, and if not then I hope they can find someone who can coach the zone blocking scheme. The only way Kiffin leave before the season is over is if the team quits on him and so far they seem to be playing hard for him.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
There wouldn’t be any room for Benson on the roster even if he did look good unless Fargas or McFadden got IR’d, and even then I don’t think Benson runs hard enough.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Kidseven, Higgins is the most dangerous return man in the NFL?… Huh?
Have you ever heard of Devin Hester or Darren Sproles?
September 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
At least they aren’t talking about moving Fred Wakefield to cornerback.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
S&B
No other Coach in the League would have kept those 2 Timeouts.
- Not when Lindell has not missed inside the 40 since 2005.
- Not when you have JLH who already has 3 Kick-Off returns of 40-plus yards this season and had 69 yarder earlier in the game.
Even if they didn´t kick it to him, a squib kick usually results in very good field position.
- Not when you have Janikowski who just nailed a 56 yarder on the road the previous week.
Even if they kept advancing the ball, you give youself a shot, you never give up on your team.
You may consider it a valid decision, but I can´t see how, you keep repeating what Kiffin said but nobody outside of Kiffin thinks it was a good decision.
And I like Kiffin, but he screwed up on that one. It didn´t cost us the game, that´s evident, but we gave up.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
JLH was called-out, and responded. Different guys respond to different motivations. Super Mario and Gallery have responded to different types of motivation. And that’s the thing…some of them are responding and flourishing. It’s time for them all to respond, to see what we’ve got — from Kiff on down.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
I´m out, enjoy your friday night people and take care.
September 26th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

how does it feel that no one likes u? no one in the nfl, your team, and your family?
September 26th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
ok then top 3….Huh? derrrr
September 26th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I like Philip Rivers.
September 26th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
JLH is better than Deven Hester. Hester hasn’t done anything this year.
September 26th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
Hester hasn’t done anything this year. (except get hurt)
September 26th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
We’ll probably get a taste of the passing game early Sunday (out of necessity).
The thinking would be this offsets the ‘Bolts preparation for an all-out running attack. At least throw on first down with SD in their base defense.
On the injury front; a big “gotcha” for the karma police. One would hope LT’s toe would act up accordingly (along with some of their other maladies).
Still harbor hope for an “over our head” performance & accompanying win Sunday. Rember this; the predominance of the Raiders players are, like Kiffin, “In!” And thus back him as HC. Hope their efforts translate into a big win.
Injuries! Aggrrh!

New post:
“Al Davis Has Fractured Brain”.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:16 am
Oakglenn, seriously, you win. This blog is dead anymore. Coach on Wheels outright keeps the sanity in this rat’s nest. A.I. aka Lofton is the comic relief. From there, look, you guys mean well. But it just gets tedious.
Marley, Oakglenn, Hayez, and the rest of the Davis defense team are like listening to finger nails go down a chalk board. I wonder if these guys know that any of us can just go to Raiders.com and not only get the same spoon full of their b.s., but pics of cheerleaders to boot. These idiots are wasting their lives. I can only hope they’re paid employees. If not, they need a f’n shock treatment.
And, ya know,..It’s great that one of these Davis shills designed a program which filters out the posts of people you don’t like. I’m going to download it, to filter THEM! Thanks again, fellers. Great innovating.

mr=miss raider
I make sure you post in the wee hours when your mom goes to the corner store for more cigarettes for me. Hahaha
September 27th, 2008 at 2:12 am
Damn… I cannot go to the game on Sunday: family supersedes this weekend. Live in Santa Cruz, any interest?
All things point to disaster this weekend. LT, the not so silent owner of the Raider, our injuries, and our perpetual tabloid interest, seemingly to work out cultural lines of so-called sanity, enlightened reason. Some folks (even Howie Long back in the day) liken Al to some Sith Lord who keeps his tenuous “good looks” by siphoning all the passion from the fanatic Nation. Just saw “Leatherheads” and saw the same story of a game whose rules have changed and supposed passed by the old guard. It’s a common story, kind of primal horde-ish. The Raider Nation is uneasy and coming apart at the seams. No more love in Oakland—black fills the heart of the Nation (in election year no less), and the silver is tarnished with delusion. Except… except… we keep selling out games since the Raiders took over. Gone are the daze of the Oakland Football Marketing ASSociation. Don’t look now, but even with the injuries from last week we played football, team football. Our reduction of pressure from both sides of the ball make more sense because (paraphrasing Kiffin) “we have no depth.” We are just getting enough football players among our starters and we remain good when we have our best foot forward. You know there’s more gray hairs of late when Watkins has to play corner. We may be over matched against the Chargers, whose qb leads the league at present (I wonder how far he could drop in a single game…). I’m taking the view that we still have a Sargent York play somewhere to pull out, like in that punting duel we once had with another number 2… Araguz!
I wish I could be there. Divisional games are the most fun, especially when a big ‘W’ ignites our smiles. Buffalo has not allowed a 100 yard game yet by a team. In our bruised state we came darned close. Bush runs better, and we’ll see about McFadden as he toes the line of playing or sitting out. I seem to remember JaMarcus working something out with Miller last year against San Diego. We need to make a lot of noise this Sunday for our defense. Let’s win another game and watch for the next tabloid autopsy. We’re not dead in the water by any stretch of the imagination——we’re just approached with such a scalpelling eye.
Should you want to see the game from the Guamanian Raider perspective, I won’t be filling it this weekend. Let me know.
Raider on,
Guamanian Raider
September 27th, 2008 at 2:41 am
I hope Mr. Al Davis lives to be 100 years old. I will attend the service knowing he never changed his beliefs/convictions one iota. Being a Raider means never giving in to the establishment regardless of the outcome. Win, Lose or Tie Raiders ’till I Die.
September 27th, 2008 at 2:52 am
Oh, who died and left you in charge of the constitution of what it takes to be a real fan, Raider Mike?
I’ve probably been a fan of this team before you were born, ya blowhard.
Al Davis designed the unis. Big ‘fn deal. Betsy Ross designed the American flag. How often do you hear her name anymore? Case and point, the Raiders will still be here long after Al. And the longer he’s gone, the less relevant either him or his legacy will be. And considering the fact that his legacy is slowly becoming that of him being an incessantly losing maniac, it’s probably a good thing. The sooner he croaks, the better off his legacy will be. Because it’s become a grim reality that every year that he’s still alive is a year that the Raiders are out of the playoff picture in October. Barring a miracle, we’re at 6 straight seasons and counting.
You may very well hope Mr. Davis lives to be 100, Mike. I guarantee you, so do the Bowlens, Spanos’, and Hunts. It makes the AFC West a 3 team division.

September 27th, 2008 at 5:42 am
post 284 Charged Up;yeah you guys have pretty much owned us as of late thats 4 sure. But with all the key injuries on both sides{man Fargas hurts the most},neither sides defence cant stop opposing O’s,this game could be a high scoring game, like last week vs bills, the last team 2 have the ball wins. That said, because of our special teams,I think this is our best chance 2 beat you guys in a while.JLH remember that name
September 27th, 2008 at 6:11 am
have hope LMN
September 27th, 2008 at 6:24 am
Our best chance is to try and force some mistakes and to keep Rivers under pressure. I don’t believe that the Chargers pass protection is as good as it has been. We have to send Burgess and Edwards after Rivers and stretch their Oline. If they over-compensate on the flanks, we should blitz Wilson and Howard through the Guard channels. Rob Ryan has to be create, aggressive and determined. I think we have the speed to get to Rivers - and it just takes one good sack.
Shame that Troupe is injured. I would have liked to see us run some 2 TEs sets. The Chargers don’t have the tallest LBs and Safeties and we could have played for some height mismatches. We need big games from Miller, Curry and Schilens - they must get open, give JR some targets and….catch the ball.
The Bolts defense is currently ranked 29th (we’re 21st) - so they clearly aren’t playing at the top of their form. There is hope.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statistics?sort=ypg&stat=team&pos=def&league=nfl&season=2&year=2008
But the key could be special teams. We cannot give away cheap points through bad special team play. And we have also got to give JLH some room.
The Bolts are strong favourites. We are big underdogs. But they are still not firing on all cylinders and we can cause a big upset. Believe Nation, believe.
September 27th, 2008 at 6:27 am
post 285 isn’t me.. btw..
but I think they play better for each game, and I think the team plays for Kiffin.. not for us or themselves or for our franchise..
realistic speaking I think we will get a loss again, but I still think we will be in the game and its ours to lose.. It all comes down to two things, how loose RR will play the D and how our O will be in the redzone..

The Newberry comments further validate my suspicions that alot of the organizational nonsense may have much more to do with some front office administrator than Al Davis himself.
I know Al is opinionated and has his faults but do you really think Al is talking to the press?
Some front office politician is playing games to try to win Al’s favor and get a promotion.
Lombardi(now gone)was one of those types.
It is not worth getting into who (they-plural) might be
but I have seen this type of crap in other organizations I have worked in. The boss makes a comment and you have some weasel out there trying to show loyalty at the expense of someone else.
Sad and unnecessary. I wish the media would see it for what it is and discredit these “sources”.

DENVER (AP)—Denver Broncos Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway is engaged to a former Oakland Raiders cheerleader.
The Rocky Mountain News reported Friday that the two-time Super Bowl winner proposed to 41-year-old Paige Green during a trip to Italy last week.
Elway told the newspaper he was “looking forward to a long life together” with Green.
The 48-year-old Elway was previously married to Janet Elway for 18 years. They have four children.
Elway met Green during a celebrity golf tournament three years ago.

Just saw this headline … memo to Raiders: get Tory Holt NOW!
Pasting the article here:
Howard Balzer writes on InsideSTL.com via an anonymous tip that Scott Linehan may be trying to release or trade wide receiver Torry Holt because the two despise each other.
From what we understand, Holt and Linehan have had several disagreements in the past several years. Holt and former Rams wide receiver approached Linehan in 2007 with some ideas about beating the Seahawks defensive backs and Linehan rebuked them saying “You play, I’ll coach.” Another disagreement was caught on camera on a Thursday night NFL network game in December of 2007 with Holt going ballistic on the sideline.

More like Joan Rivers says 48-9
September 27th, 2008 at 7:58 am
We aren’t going to get Holt he has 2 healthy knees… That’s not our MO.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:00 am
That would change if we signed him.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:02 am
Don’t get me wrong if we traded Javon in the process I would be the first to pimp my Holt Jersey .
September 27th, 2008 at 8:08 am
I’m sure they don’t want to let him go to the seahawks or the niners.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:13 am
I agree… He would be an amazing pick up. Holt has years of being a proven WR. Good attitude and a leader for the offense. I js don’t see us being that smart.

September 27th, 2008 at 8:23 am
No DT’s until the 7th?
September 27th, 2008 at 8:33 am
The 2009 DT class isn’t looking too great. There are big question marks, mostly character-related, against the top 3: Fili Moala (USC), Jeff Owens (Georgia) and DeMarcus Granger (Oklahoma).
There are some reasonable nose tackles for 3:4 sets (BJ Raji, Dorell Scott, but not many that would fit our 4:3.
I think a DT is probably a FA priority not a draft priority.

Thanks Scotty you always have good insight
September 27th, 2008 at 8:44 am

I totally disagree..
we need a real MLB in the first round.. that USC kid or lurentittits… tistis

September 27th, 2008 at 8:48 am
we’ll draft a safety
September 27th, 2008 at 8:50 am
That Ole Miss OT is the guy to get at that position..with that said…
not buying the Rey Mauluaga hype..good in college, not fast enough in the pros…now #43 on USC, he looks like the guy at LB…
September 27th, 2008 at 8:53 am
LMN, I wanted to draft Laurinaitis this year but he stayed in school. Maualuga is likely to go before we draft. I just think that OT has to be the biggest priority and Monroe is a great prospect.
And a lot of smart analysts really rate Josh Mauga as a runstuffing ILB.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Matt Millen says to draft a wide receiver first.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:55 am
The Ole Miss OT, Michael Oher, will definitely go first pick. The Rams are desperate at OT and he is the best available.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Its week 4, can we hold off on the draft til we are eliminated.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:57 am
R8R4FER, all the evidence from past years is that taking a WR in the 1st is poor value. The 2nd round is the best place to find good WRs - Look at Eddie Royal and DeSean Jackson. Millen was never good at the value thing.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:58 am
Scottish…
“Maualuga is likely to go before we draft.” how can any draft before us? LOL couldn’t help myself =)
I just think our D would be a gazillion % better if we had a real MLB..
Josh Mauga is what you say, fine by me, then I would go take him in the 3rd so we don’t miss out on him..
September 27th, 2008 at 8:59 am
All,
I say trade the pick to get Roy Williams or Anquan Boldin.
Russell needs some help.
Use the next pick to get an OT and Linebacker

[...] [Raiders] Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha To Play With Fractured Elbow The injury which has minimized the practice participation of Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha this week is a fracture of a small bone in the right elbow. Coach Lane Kiffin never used the term when discussing the injury the past two days, but Asomugha did when talking about it on Friday. Its real sore, real banged up. It happened in about the second quarter in Buffalo, Asomugha said. When asked if if he struck it on a helmet he replied No, tackling. I got kicked, Asomugha said. Thats where the fracture came in. Source: Oakland Tribune [...]
September 27th, 2008 at 9:03 am
S&B, I am not sure we can afford another mega-dollar FA WR. Not unless we can junk Javon Walker. Michael Crabtree might still be available when we pick - if you really want to take a WR before an OT!
September 27th, 2008 at 9:13 am
[...] [Raiders] Raiders RB Darren McFadden To Be A Game-Time Decision Raiders RB Darren McFadden will again have a pain-killing injection and start Sunday if he warms up well enough. If McFadden discovers either before or during the game he couldnt go on, then fullback Justin Griffith would be the backup to Michael Bush at running back, with Luke Lawton moving in at fullback. Well push him and act as if hes fine, head coach Lane Kiffin said. Once he starts showing hes not 100 percent, well pull back as a safety measure and go with Michael and make sure he doesnt get knocked out in the game so he can come back (after the bye) with Fargas. Source: Oakland Tribune [...]
September 27th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Scottish Raider,
I know, I know…Davis went and signed that fool Yvonne Walker and here we are. Need to convince him to retire. I think we need a reliable wide receiver pick. Receivers in the draft are hit or miss.
Problem is that Russell has no one to throw too. No one to draw double teams, no one with sure hands.
We need a bonnafide receiver. Otherwise our offense will never take off.
A new tackle would be nice. We can get one in the 2nd or 3rd round
September 27th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Better value might be to offer the Lions a pick or trade or combination for Calvin Johnson. They will need to rebuild and might be willing to do a deal.
September 27th, 2008 at 9:45 am
Scottish..
that would be a steal.. have in mind that his salary is huge, as a rookie and 2nd year’er… seldom rookies play fulltime, so his first paychecks is more for what he might do to the club later on.. so to get him when he should start deliver, that would be a blunder for the Lions, and a steal for us..
I know this isn’t my best written post, but I got 3 hours of sleep and my hangovers are the size of antarctic… so bear over me..

September 27th, 2008 at 9:55 am
Some of you guys are seriously wanting of intellect. I mean seriously …coaching decisions are responsible for the injuries? If that’s not a reach then I don’t know what is. This is FOOTBALL and teams suffer injuries - sometimes many of them at one time - all the time. Sheezzz!
In case you fools haven’t noticed, the offense has come from below low to mid level in 1.5 years. And I’m talking about statically incalculable bad to decent and outright dominant in a key area. Altogether with a virtual rookie QB at the helm.
The defense on the other hand, has been a disappointment year in and year out - too much talent - not enough results. Common denominator outside Davis - Rob f’kn Ryan - Him and is patented “prevent a win defense”.
Each week I will hope for Rob Ryan to coach a great defensive game plan but this usually ends in bitter disappointment. Just like vs Buffalo - good for 3Qs and absolutely f’ked up the game in the end. Typical.
September 27th, 2008 at 9:58 am
The Raiders can beat the Chargers Sunday. Don’t be mistaken. They can beat the Chargers just like they could have beaten the Bills. But its all going to come down to Rob Ryan and his defense - just like last week. They are suppose to be the strength of this team - “suppose” to have been for years now. Too much talent - too little results.
September 27th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Main concern: DTs …I’m not so confident in moving JRich inside. He’s too light for that - he’s a DE not a DT. I was shocked that they actually went into the season w/ 3DTs and actually stayed with it. I’m still shocked that they have not made a move to get someone else in. Sht - get Dre Moore off TBs practice squad. We need some meat in there.
Lets just hope Kiffin can stay on the field long enough to protect the defense cause LT could be in for a big day given this porous Dline. Good thing the Raiders have a stable of starting caliber backs.
Still get another DT for crying out loud.

Dear Rob Ryan:
Please save the Raiders season by being aggressive against the Chargers. You have one of the fastest LBs in the league with Thomas Howard yet in 3 seasons he has only 2 sacks, please utilize his speed by having him blitz more, more run blitzing mixed with zone blitzing will confuse the dolts and lead to Phillip Rivers choking. Please Rob Ryan don’t pick up the phone when Mr. Davis calls you to stop blitzing just continue being agressive and turn the season around.
Thanks in Advance!

September 27th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
I’d go for Hitler ‘08 over Obama ‘08
September 27th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
MR
Kiff’s replacement will probably be Lofton because nobody in their right mind would take this head coaching job besides him or Ryan. Whomever Al decides, it’s just going to be another puppet regime anyways. No light at the end of the Black Hole.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
yeah baby, thats what I’m talkin bout
September 27th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Al Davis has turned one of the proudest and most historic franchises in sports into the laughing stock of the entire sports world. I was always on the side of Mr. Davis before this year. I finally had enough after the offseason soap opera. Al Davis has to go, period. The Circus in Oakland is all Al’s fault and it sickens me.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Ah ok MR, that explains it. And yeah I don’t have any faith in whatever puppet Al puts up there.
Duke Nukem would be a good coach though.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Death by Tatum,
I’m not even sure Lofton would take it. I’ll have to google it but I recall some columnist writing that the reason Davis is hesitant to pull the trigger on a coaching change is because Lofton is holding his balls to the fire regarding contract language. Lofton’s likely doing the Art Shell maneuver, making sure he gets paid no matter what happens. Al’s going to take the lowest bidder, period. Because whoever Kiffin’s replacement is, he’ll obviously be an interim.
And, why would you want Hitler over Obama? Do you hate J-ewish people and black people that much?
September 27th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Pirate,
Kiffin is a good coach. In his many years, Al has got it right 4 times: Madden, Flores, Gruden, Shannahan. Kiffin still needs time, this mess is not his fault. He does make mistakes but this is only his 2nd season. I have been critical of Kiffin but I know there is only so much he can do without the Crypt Keeper breathing his death breath down the back of his neck.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
DEATHbyTATUM, I know Kiff is a good coach. He also has a shot at developing into a great coach. However I still think it is a forgone conclusion that he will be out, and Al will promote one of his pets to the position (Rob Ryan or Lofton).
September 27th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
MR,
No, I dont hate either, in fact…one of my best friends happens to be a Son of Abraham. How about Millen 08 instead of Obama 08? Adolf was a little extreme.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
DEATHbyTATUM,
There’s no way Kiffin has as much control as Gruden had, even when Gruden started. Gruden was allowed to pick his own staff. Al only demanded he keep Freddy and Willie, and they’re just skills coaches anyway. Gruden picked both W. Shaw and C. Breshnehan.
Kiffin hasn’t been allowed to go near the defense, and there’s no doubt Al’s been making the calls on offensive personnel, too. No way Kiffin wanted Walker, and it’s likely he’d have rather drafted for our D line than taken McFadden. When he alluded to that in the summer, fans were assuming he was just playing the media, and that him and Al were on the same page. You can toss that theory out the window now.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
It’s harsh to say and it hurts to say…but the Raiders will not be a respectable franchise until A. Al dies or B. He relinquishes command and we know the latter will only happen when he dies.
God, think about it. Have you ever had a disagreement with your grandfather? Remember how hard it was to try and get him to see your way? Have you ever tried to get an old person to hand him your keys and let you drive? Impossible. He is too gone, set in his ways to listen to any form of reason. He has surrounded himself by yes-men and is riding all of our hearts and the players’ into the ground. Cherish McFadden, Howard, Nnamdi, Bush, Miller…players like this will be gone once they get the chance because this franchise is detremental to their growth as a player. Goodell knows that if he tries to step in, Al will take the NFL through some long, ridiculous lawsuit.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
MR,
I know exactly what Hitler stood for. I was kidding, obviously. No way I would vote for Hitler.
September 27th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
I never said Kiff had more power than Gruden, its not even close!
September 27th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
I know you didn’t say Kiff had more power than Gruden, DBT. I made that post in agreement with you. Little defensive today, are we? Well, anyone who thinks Hitler would make a better president than Obama…

September 27th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
After looking at the complete situation last week, I have to say that responsibility for last weeks lost appears to be leaning more towards Kiffin than Ryan.
Yes Ryan sucks. Yes he should have been fired last season. But look at the entire picture in the fourth quarter last week:
Burgess (Starter)- Injured
Warren (Starter)-Injured
Wilson (Starter)- Ejected
Aso (Starter)-Injured
Bottom line is that the starting unit that wrecked havoc on Buffalo for three quarters wasn’t there in the 4th quarter.
Kiffin played conservatively on offense and turned it over to a seriously DEPLETED defense to win the game.
That was poor game management and recognition of the condition of his players.
All we needed was a first down or two on offense, and the game would have been ours. Kiffin admittedly turned it over to a depleted defense to preserve a lead, and so we lost by one point.
Kiffin F’d up last week, and he better learn quick to PLAY TO WIN rather than NOT TO LOSE, or he’ll be gone real quick.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Kush, Kiffin needs to play to win or he’ll be gone real quick? Ooh, I’m sure he’s scared…
September 27th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Naw MR Kiffin probably would be glad to leave. But the statement about him being gone real quick is for those of us who have supported Kiffin thus far, including myself.
If Kiffin continues to do a piss poor job of managing games, he will be fired quickly, and ultimately, it will have been his own fault.
Last week should have been win, bottom line. It was Kiffin’s job as head coach to make the decisions that would have secured a victory. Instead, he turned it over to a injured, second string defense. He F’d up big time.
September 27th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Are you guys still talking about Kiffin?
Well, I guess it is your last chance.
The Kiffin era: Glory days.
Just Win Baby.

You hear that? Thats the Sound of Al’s ship sinking fast into the depths of the Black Hole. Regardless of Kiffin being fired, Al will continue to sink. Al loses in all this, not Kiffin. Al and only Al has to own up to this mess he made and suffer from it till he either jumps ship. Or he can choose to sink with it. He won’t be here forever. no one will.
