Fullback Justin Griffith will need knee surgery and is out for the year, coach Tom Cable announced at the Raiders weekly press conference.

Griffith has a torn ACL, an injury he sustained a couple of plays before before scoring on a 2-yard touchdown pass from JaMarcus Russell, with Cable saying it “gave way” on the touchdown.

Random observations following a long trip to Baltimore:

– The Raiders were far from alone in this, given that the dominant defensive player of his era lasted until the 26th pick of the first round, but how would history have been different if Al Davis had been smitten with Ray Lewis instead of Rickey Dudley?

The Raiders announced Sunday’s Jets-Raiders game is sold out and will be televised locally.

Tickets returned by the Jets remain for sale.

The Raiders have sold out seven straight games.

Running back Darren McFadden made it to the practice field without a protective boot and looked as if he was going to be involved in team sessions Wednesday.

The only player who looked as if he was not going to participate was defensive end Derrick Burgess, who is listed as day-to-day with a triceps injury and was not in pads and didn’t have his helmet.
