Raiders appear to be at full strength
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 at 11:15 am in Oakland Raiders.
Running back Darren McFadden made his way slowly to the practice field without his protective boot as the Raiders began preparations to face the New Orleans Saints Sunday in New Orleans.
McFadden was held out Monday, with coach Tom Cable saying he expected the rookie to practice Wednesday.
It appeared that most injured players were in uniform, although it remains to be seen how much they’ll actually do at practice.
More to come following practice and interview sessions . . .

I am gay.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Now that Kiffin is gone I am officially on the I love Al Davis bandwagon. I was wrong about everything. This team will win in New Orleans and make a playoff run.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:27 am
That FIRST thing is so lame.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:33 am
MR, I wish I had your optimism. I hated Kiffin when he was here. He questioned the knowledge of the dark lord, so how could I not hate him? But I really do miss him, already. This team has had a losing attitude for the 4 seasons prior to Kiffin’s arrival. He was the only one here willing to challenge Davis and change the attitude of not just the team but also the, “hey, we just won two games straight, everything is fine”, attitude of the entire organization, as well. Without him, we’re back to Al Davis football. Ditching the run in the first quarter, soft defenses allowing the run, and thinking 2 straight wins is an accomplishment. But it’s good to see you’re pulling yourself up by the boot straps, MR. Because I just don’t see the light.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Los Malosos Says:
…Look for our DT’s to be gassed during the 4th quarter, not much Ryan can do about that, he only has 3 of those…
*********************************
I wonder what it is. Do we overwork our players during the week so that by the time Sunday rolls around they are too worn out in the 2nd half to put forth any effort? nothing left in the tank?
Or is Brad Roll just a sack of crap strength & conditioning coach? I don’t remember this being an issue under Jeff Fish
October 8th, 2008 at 11:35 am
1st to be a dumb a$$
October 8th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Comment #8 wasn’t me. It was mo ron troll tard. Who else?
Drama, the “first” game we play is just for fun. Lighten up.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:36 am
Lyn, the “first” thing is just good fun. Are you always this serious?
October 8th, 2008 at 11:37 am
With only three DTs its hard to have a rotation that rest these guys.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Wow, MR is trolling as OG and doing a poor job of it. Post 8 is bogus.
As for the little nancyboy who has to post “first”…Caribou Ken are you a maverick? I doubt it.
I will call you Cuckold Ken, because I have been seeing GI Joe on the side.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:39 am
bench Dmac PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZEEE
October 8th, 2008 at 11:41 am
I don’t see what the big deal is about people posting “first”. It’s just good fun. Caribou Barbie, why be so smug?
October 8th, 2008 at 11:42 am
fun to me is running naked backward threw a corn field
October 8th, 2008 at 11:43 am
4evaRaider, Benching D Mac has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. He’s one of the horses that can make us a playoff team this year. We have Kiffin out of the way now, which means we have a coach who’s actually trying to win. The dumbest thing we can do is take one of our best players out of the equation. D Mac has to tough it up and play. If he’s a real Raider, he’ll do just that. We’ll see what happens.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:43 am
Ufck I wasnt 1st time 2 die
October 8th, 2008 at 11:44 am
LOL, 4evaRaider. I get pretty competitive with the “first” thing, too. I’ve gotten really pissed a couple of times for not getting it. Hey, I’m an athlete. It’s my competitive nature.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
If the running game is at full strength we can wear a defense out and close games in the 4th.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Hey, Lyn, I’m game to run naked in a corn field with you. You are a woman, right? LOL.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
Oakglenn,turf-toe took down JACK LAMBERT;nuff said
October 8th, 2008 at 11:47 am
You betcha (wink)
October 8th, 2008 at 11:48 am
4evaRaider, Jack Lambert wasn’t a Raider. I don’t think you’re seeing the big picture, here. This is the most important season in our franchise’s history. We are at a crossroads. Not only at team headquarters, but also amongst the fans. It’s do or die time, for everyone. And McFadden has to be aboard. We’ve already had to throw one disloyal shipmate overboard. It’s time for everyone to pull together, players and fans, and march toward the promise land. We have a team. We have the talent. D Mac is part of that team. He has to have his head in the right place and he has to want to be part of the magic that is the POST KIFFIN era of the Oakland Raiders!
October 8th, 2008 at 11:48 am
it took C Wood like 3 years to recover from turf toe, didn’t it? seemed like it
October 8th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Lambert played his career on astro turf in Pittsburg that’s what did him in.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:50 am
RaiderRockstar, comparing a true talent like D Mac to a bum like C Wood just about disqualifies you from this conversation.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Woodson didn’t want to practice is why that injury was such along one. If you know what i mean
October 8th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Exactly, Lyn.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:54 am
I couldn’t believe that Jordan went down in the Niner Pats game this past weekend. Must of been that Candlestick sod monster that got him.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Woodson had “club toe”…never practiced, but would keep getting his toe stepped on by drunks at the club.
And Oakglenn, I wasn’t being smug. I called out the troll posting as you (while you were doing the same). But it is really NOT fun for most of us to see supposed Raider fans acting like spoiled kids by posting “first!”. If you are going to play that dumb game, you should at least be inventive enough to add another comment worthy of our cumulative attention.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Pretty interesting article.

The Raiders’ black hole of coaches
By Mike Lopresti, Gannett News Service
Checking the wires, Al Davis hasn’t fired any more coaches lately. But the day is young.
Now that Lane Kiffin has been tossed onto the discard pile in Oakland — which is starting to resemble a stack of used tires at the end of a NASCAR race — this will make eight head coaches in 13 years for the Raiders. But at least interim Tom Cable survived through the bye weekend.
The others to come and go were found disappointing and lacking, according to the owner, and pushed out the door. Last week’s divorce with Kiffin was particularly messy, and had everything but a taped Alec Baldwin phone rant.
He’s an essential part of NFL history, but somehow Davis reminds you of the guy who’s been through half a dozen marriages and keeps claiming, “It’s all my ex-wife’s fault.”
But perhaps the problem is in the hiring process. A new questionnaire for prospects might help zero in on men who are better suited to the Raiders’ way of doing things.
We happen to have one handy. This survey might be just what Oakland needs. A guy who answers enough of these questions correctly is obviously an Al Davis man. At least long enough to have his name on the door.
FIND MORE STORIES IN: Super Bowl | Denver Broncos | Los Angeles | Oakland Raiders | North Korean | Mike Shanahan | John Madden | Lane Kiffin | Al Davis | Alec Baldwin | Spartan | Tom Cable | Mr. Davis | Kim Jong-Il
1. Why in heaven’s name would you want this job?
2. How is your John Madden impersonation?
3. When you were a kid, did you ever dream of being in a circus?
4. When was the last winning Raiders team? If you wish, round off to the nearest decade.
5. Name three men in the NFL more important than Al Davis. Extra points if you can’t think of that many.
6. Are you personally related to any of the former Raiders coaches who couldn’t cut the mustard?
7. Are you prepared to make the tough decisions on the questions Mr. Davis gives you sole authority to answer? For instance, tie color. Very important. And when it comes to how you like your eggs, the buck stops at your desk.
8. Would you say the fact the Raiders have not won a Super Bowl in nearly 25 years is due to coaching error, league conspiracy or global warming?
9. Wouldn’t you agree that given the honor of working for the Oakland Raiders, getting paid isn’t really all that important?
10. Which golf course will you be playing on NFL draft day, so the Raiders can find you and let you know who you’ve drafted?
11. When you’re fired, would you prefer it be by e-mail or cellphone?
12. Were you ever in the jury pool for an Al Davis lawsuit?
13. If things go south, what names will you not mind being called on national television?
14. Did you watch the press conference, when Mr. Davis dismissed that lying, no-good Kiffin?
15. Did you notice that the background behind the podium was a wee bit Spartan? And the presentation was a tad long? And the owner was often on the grim and worn side? Matter of fact, did it bother you that when some viewers first saw it, they mistook it for a May Day speech from Kim Jong-il on North Korean television?
16. How quickly can you pack?
17. Don’t you still think Los Angeles should have built us a new stadium?
18. If you lose at home to the Denver Broncos and Mike Shanahan very often, will you do the honorable thing and fall on your sword?
19. What will be your deadline each week for suggestions to be faxed from the owner’s box?
Thank you for your answers. We’ll be in contact soon. Just wait, baby.

October 8th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Oakglenn I disagree;it is not do or die this year. What I meant was if turf-toe could bring down JLAMBERT,surely it could bring down Dmac. You sir are not seeing the big picture:We CANNOT be so selfish 2 ruin maybe the best HB 2 ever play the game 4 one season. If his toe is an issuse:BENCH HIM
October 8th, 2008 at 11:59 am
Caribou barbie, first off, thank you for pointing out the troll. He’s a lifeless turd who’s here to ruin it for us. That being said, I still dont’ see what your problem is with the “first” game. It’s just good fun.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
4evaRaider, I’m sorry you feel that way. Those of us on board for the ‘08 crusade, on the other hand, will see you on the bandwagon when we’re making a playoff run.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
If McFadden sits out this year, Marcus Allen style, he’s not a Raider. This is the most important season in franchise history. We have to show the world we didn’t need Kiffin.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
short-sightedness is killing us
October 8th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Not that interesting Bob…more like a depressing rehash of the same old slams on Al.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
We need to move the ball and win time of possetion so that the DT’s don’t get gassed.
I think the reason for Kelly having conditioning problems is that he was rehabing his knee well into training camp and couldn’t get the work in to get into shape, but he should be in better shape every week than the week before. Sands I don’t think knows how to get into great shape, but I think he is in better shape now that any time since he got here.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
I agree with you this time, Cabibou Barbie. That article was beneath Bob. He’s usually more level headed. Anyhow, “First”!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
OG, if typing “first” is your idea of good fun you must bust a nut when you win solataire.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Raiderkoolaid, excellent comment. And I agree completely. Kelly really is stepping up. I have a feeling he’s going to be one of our leaders as we head into the stretch and make a playoff run.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Barbie, I just dont’ see what your problem is with people having a good time. You’re starting to remind me of someone in here.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
First First First!
Nah, nah, nah nah nah!!!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Oakglenn,my whole premise of benching Dmac is TOTALLY MEDICAL,not anything else foo-foo.You start by saying he sit out ala marcus WTF????????he not RAIDER WTF???I ONLY HAVE HIS BEST INTREST IN MIND FOO-FOO
October 8th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
sh:t Troll ufcf you you aint OG
October 8th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
I think this article has a little more of a balanced view on Davis. Not as much bias, IMO. Give it a read and see for yourself.
…………
Davis dooms his Raiders to failure
BOB GLAUBER
October 5, 2008
On Jan. 22, 2009, Al Davis will celebrate a dubious anniversary, one that says all you need to know about how out of touch the Raiders’ managing general partner has become.
On that day, it will have been 25 years since the Raiders last won the Super Bowl. On Jan. 22, 1984, Davis’ Raiders routed the Redskins, 38-9, in Super Bowl XVIII.
Since then, Davis’ franchise has wallowed mostly in misery, with the owner himself the root cause of all that has afflicted the team he affectionately refers to as the Raiduhs.
There is little hope of a turnaround anytime soon. In fact, Davis, 79, sunk to a new low Tuesday when he held a news conference announcing the firing of yet another head coach - Lane Kiffin - after only 20 games.
Davis read and displayed on an overhead projector a three-page warning letter he’d given to Kiffin nearly three weeks ago. He called on the coach to “cease your immature and destructive campaign” by publicly criticizing the team. Davis also called Kiffin a “flat-out liar” and vowed not to pay Kiffin the remaining money owed on the contract because he was fired “with cause.”
If Davis were a player, he’d have been banished from the league years ago because he couldn’t get the job done. Unfortunately for Raiders fans, they’re stuck with one of the most misguided owners, a man who doesn’t have the sense to realize that he needs to turn over the football operations to someone with competence.
Davis once was one of the most ingenious men in his sport, unafraid to take risks on young coaches such as John Madden and older, colorful players such as John Matuszak, Kenny Stabler and Ted Hendricks.
As commissioner of the old American Football League, he was a maverick who ultimately helped give his fledgling league enough credibility to merge with the long-established NFL.
But nearly a quarter-century after holding up the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Davis has become a pathetic man who has lost touch with how to run a football team. Too bad for the die-hard fans of the Black Hole that the franchise has fallen into it, never to get out as long as Davis is in charge.

October 8th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
lol I thought the comment that Dmac made about turf toe re: Woodson and not practicing was hilarious. This is one of those injuries that can take a while to heal, but wont end or ruin his career if he does play. I say suit him up, but use him sparingly if Fargas is going well. Bush aint too shabby of a change up back!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
The Aints are going to have a couple of starters out on defense. It looks like Sedrick Ellis and Tracy Porter will both be out. Their placekicker, Gramatica was put on IR too, but I don’t know if that is good for us or bad for us.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
4evaRaider, it’s not me. Of course it’s the troll mo ron who’s been posting as me all day. This is the first real comment of mine on this thread. And, I agree, we should give DMac a rest. This season is toast, anyway.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
4evaRaider, you going to the Jets game?
October 8th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Oakglenn don’t be a fool. The Raiders drafted a warrior in DMAC. He’s never missed a game in his life at any level. The team may be doing him a disservice not allowing him to heal but rest assured DMAC is a baller and he’s going to come to play.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Raiderkoolaid, it doesn’t matter. We’re toast this season. I’m looking at the draft, and keeping D Mac healthy. The new era of Raider football begins in ‘09. Kiffin already tainted this season.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Michael, that wasn’t me posting the stuff about playing McFadden. It was the mo ron, posting as me, as usual. He has no life. He’ll come in here and post as me for 16 hours. He should kill himself. For the record, I am all for resting McFadden up . This season is toast, anyway. We should rest the whole starting lineup this season. We’re not going to be able to reverse the damage that LAME has done this year. Impossible. Focus on next year. We will be back.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
4evaRaider, you going to the Jets game ,bro?
October 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
There is no reason to give up or quit on this season. I am optimistic about a turn around, and even if it doesn’t happen, winning a few games late would help bring a different attitude for next year. The sides, even though we didn’t win the last two I think they showed we can compete. Now its time to go past competing and learn to win.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I’m gay! Who wants to come home with me?
October 8th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Raiderkoolaid, hey, if we win, cool. But I think Kiffin ruined this season. I’m looking at next year. Get DMac rested. We should bench Russell, too. Why risk getting him hurt in a lost season? That’s my point.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Quiting on this season would not help get us ready to win next year.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Sorry real Oakglenn. Dmac should absolutely rest until he feels close 100%. The focus right now should be on changing the culture around the team and most of all continuing to develop Jamarcus.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:20 pm
Mommy I made poopie.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Raiderkoolaid, hey bro, I agree. It would be awesome if we could pull off a few wins this year. But all I’m saying is that we should rest DMac and Russell, because there’s no point risking them getting injured in a lost season like this one. That’s all.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
The Saints game is winnable Knapp is starting to open the passing a little more plus getting Fargas back will be huge. This game should tell us how how good or bad we really are.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
TROLL ALERT!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
post49 ok wait no not ok.Let me say “REST Dmac” not bench Dmac
October 8th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Caribou Barbie, MR the mo ron has already been exposed. We know it’s him. Good looking out.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
We better hope that they are preparing the specials teams to deal with Reggie Bush and his punt returning. I’m going to keep an eye on Branch. Hopefully he can get down the field and cover Reggie.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Russell needs to be out there getting experience. I do think that if we go another look at Walter on a team that is not atrocious we might be surprised.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
The greatness of the Raiders is in it’s future. That’s what we need to think about. I’d like to see a healthy D Mac and Russell next year. Why risk that by playing them this year?
October 8th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Al Davis should be in the Hall of Fame twice.
We would be 65-20 if the staff listened to the legend.
Just win baby.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
who the ufck is micheal???
October 8th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Kool aid, I’d rather throw Walter into this train wreck than Russell. Let’s protect the kid. Keep him out of this mess. Next year. We draft big, Russell and DMac are ready to light the world on fire, and the cohesiveness will have set in under Cable’s tutalidge.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
rest this
October 8th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Mr. Davis showed us he is still as sharp as ever.
Kiffin showed he is not yet a full grown man.
Just win baby.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
beep-beep Troll Alert
October 8th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Well put, Barbie. #71. But I think we have that staff, now. We just need to rid this team of the Kiffin stench. We can be SB contenders by next year. God knows we have the talent.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Every game we play is winable. I don’t think we are overmatched by any team on our schedule. I don’t expect us to win all of them, but there isn’t any reason to give up on winning most of them.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
The troll’s been exPOSED! It’s the mo ron, at it again. I think we need to call Ezekial’s mom and have him put to bed.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Raiderkoolaid, I agree. We can win any game. We do match up with every team. Who knows? All I’m saying is that we should bench DMac and Russell to keep them from getting long term injuries. This season is toast, anyway.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
[...] - RB Darren McFadden practice with the Raiders on Wednesday, but still might be limited this week. (Oakland Tribune) [...]
October 8th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Bench McFadden. Save him for next year, when it counts again.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Oakglenn,
I think you are the biggest troll on this board.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
#48 - sounds like that guy thinks Snake was a vet when we picked him up.
Hollywood Raiders, backbiting, media circus. Changing the culture? Yeah surrre. Thanx again Lane, for waving it like a goddam flag. Although, to be fair, Davis got his head messed up in LA sorta permanently. Just in case anyone thinks I’ve lost sight of the big picture. He saw himself in Lane … hmmmm.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
wow. i was only 8 months old when the Raiders won their last Super Bowl
i wasn’t a fan back then. they haven’t done squat for me
October 8th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
anyone want to join me in circle jerk?
October 8th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
MR is a guy who makes arguments regarding the faults of Al Davis, so am I.
We are not here to play silly games. Only the Pro Al Davis people do that, because it’s the only recourse they have.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
how can some say the season is lost when we’ve only played 4 games…
we will be 4-4 and hopefully 5-3 at mid season.
let the raider hating raider fans hate at my comment begin….
October 8th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Its because i am gay
October 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
All this news is camp fodder!
Jerry whats really going on with Javon Walker!
And is Jammy getting his chemistry right with the recieving corp?(e.g. Schilens, Curry, Higgins, Lelie, and Watkins)
Whats the real scoop!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
We have arguments and facts to rely on. The Al Davis Cultists have nothing but hijacking other peoples names and name calling and juvenile nonsense to distract the conversation.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
i like your attitude south texas.
the Raiders don’t play another 2007 playoff team until December
one thing is for sure. Can’t blame any more games on the coaching fued between Kiff & Davis. Can’t blame anymore games on Kiff’s conservative playcalling
October 8th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
On the next post I am going to be number one. If you dried up old prunes who don’t know have to fun don’t like it, see me after the game.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Rockstar, its all on Al and Ryan now.
If Cable and Knapp run our offense in cohesion.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
what the hell is wrong with the IDIOTS running/ruining this blog? why dont they set it up with a LOGIN so we dont have morons posting as others?
its confusing
its frustrating
its pissing me off
maybe Ill come back when the mod figures out how to set server security for logins!!!
October 8th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
very true rockstar. with the drama gone and 100% play calling by one coach…there should be no excuses.
and like i said….a win sunday will be the turnaround for our players AND the franchise…
WE WILL BE ABLE WITH CABLE….1-0 FOR CABLE
2-3 FOR THE SEASON.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Rollin J..
LOL, well see ya when our team wins a trophy, that long will it take them for get registration here =)
October 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
I would be in favor of logging in to get rid of the trolls
October 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Any post claiming that “this season is toast” is definately the troll, FYI.
If Cable bats .500 and learns on the way, the season will not have been toast. The biggest hurdle this young team faces is BELIEVING they will win. We make progress on that level then this season is not toast.
MR, eat some sh!t please. I’ll tell ya when to stop! (wink, wink, nose srunch).
October 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
Lyn will you marry me?
October 8th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
STR..
what will a loss mean then??
October 8th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
KoolKell is a Wayne Valley Cultist…
October 8th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
We need a WR to step up. It could be Walker if he ever gets healthy, but JLH is probably the best hope.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I’ve been dead for ten years
October 8th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
I suspect Rolln J is MR trying to convince us the trolls are “ruining this place”. He wants us frustrated, instead we spot his lies and ignore.
October 8th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Watching the Texans-Colts & Saints-Vikings games this past week reminded me that the Raiders aren’t the only team to suffer tough, tough losses in games we should’ve won (Bills, Chargers games).
Not that it sucks any less. It’s just a reminder that you’ve gotta play 4 full quarters in this league if you want to win. You can’t play prevent D half-way through the 4th. Being up two scores in the 4th is meaningless unless you keep your foot on the other guy’s throat.
This is something Cable talked about right after getting the HC job. Hopefully he make it a reality with this team.

We’ll see what happens.

post 109,All here would like 2 get our hands on Roy Williams
October 8th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
well LMN i dont think that far but if it does happen, what it means will all depend on how the loss occured.
we all see the games, will it be the conservative play calling or the soft defense….
but yet it also depends on if we are trailing or leading…… know what i mean.
i really dont know how to answer that until it happens and we see the game….
October 8th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Raiders can’t afford Plax, TJ, Chad, Anquan, Roy or any other high priced WR in free agency this offseason. The Javon Walker signing ruined that possibility a long time ago.
October 8th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
It seemed we were hamstrung in the past two losses getting that big third down to keep a drive sustained, thats when the defense started to wear down from too many three and outs and not taking time off the clock. That wild cat formation could throw a wrinkle in the play calling with DMC as a threat to pass or run.
October 8th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
RaiderRockstar, when did you become the GM and the financier for the Oakland Raiders? You know nothing about what any NFL team can do with free agents so why pretend to have knowledge?
FYI…your name is ridiculous.
October 8th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I sure a lot of receivers would love to come here and get paid big $$ to not catch the football ala Walker.

October 8th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Look what a factor Ronnie Brown has been against good teams like the Pats & Chargers.
Brown/Williams is similar to what we have in McFadden/Bush. Pennington to Ginn, Fasano & Camarillo isn’t an upgrade over Russell to Walker, Miller & Higgins.
point is, team focus on stopping the run in both scenarios. Dolphins find a way to win. We should be winning more games.
With a new HC and players getting healthier we should see better results.
October 8th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
D Hall loves his experience with the Oakland Raiders.
-1-3 record, on pace to go 4-12.
-new coach
-he gets burned week after week

I’m all 4 a wildcat formation,single-wing or whatever formation will work.In tuna-land they are smart enough 2 play 2 their strenghts, whatever they may be.Almost any wrinkle can work but teame need their own, depending on personell. We have almost best personell, WE IN

STR..
I know what you mean..
I’ve said, that seeing Knapp calling plays in Atlanta wont mean a thing regarding a difference towards Kiffin..
But still, he could be completely different than I expect, exactly because of that, meaning Kiffin was called out for his playcalling, so Knapp might do a 180 on me =)
we’ll all be wiser late sunday night =)

October 8th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

I’m genuinely optimistic about Sunday. No bs. At least we won’t have a coach who doesn’t believe in the passing game. A few first downs in the 4th qtr the last few weeks, and we might be 2-2.

I worry about every move that Al makes, except funding. If there is one thing that this team can still do, its pay a player. Don’t forget that they can always re-negotiate a player’s contract. Javon Walker, and Ronald Curry especially are looking at pay cuts.

October 8th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
It appears that Hall is ass kissing to Davis with his comments about being happy here and all the other crap he has said. To me, this load of crap about being able to talk to the owner and not “kissing ass to the coach” BS that Hall is talking about is exactly why coaches won’t get the respect they deserve from the players as soon as things start hitting rock bottom.
So in other words Hall likes to kiss rich asses of owners rather than the coach because he knows if the coach don’t like him he can’t do anything as long as he’s buddy buddy with the owner.
Thanks a lot DAVIS. You’re really helping improve this team.

October 8th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
none of the players respect coaches in Oakland. they aren’t required to. coaches ask players to put in extra work to get better, but if they don’t want to, they don’t have to. we need players that are self motivated or ones that actually respect the coach because they want to improve themselves as a player. Guys like Walker & Hall love it here for these very reasons and will stay here as long as they’re allowed. guys show up to meetings late or not at all, do whatever they want off the field, there is no discipline - like Gannon says.
that is why we turn over coaches like hotcakes.
if you compared the Raiders to colleges, you’d have some teams that are like Harvard & Yale. The Raiders would be a community college where students (players)and teachers (coaches) come and go.

actually no, I/he didn’t.. but whats it to you? you are a petty rac!ct with a mediocre knowledge of the game. Why I know this, is because my knowledge is much to talk about, but often you showed less grip of this than me.. Seems to me all you can is say stuff about others, and copy others meaning about football..
btw, all this Me against the US spat with Dakota, started in March, when I stated, I thought your economy was going down the drain, a guy here with the moniker ‘JB’ called me out, that conversation got got Dakota started.. because they both saw my critique as an attack against the US - and both came with a history lesson of how great an economy was, but i was talking about the future ont the past (seems it came true much faster than I thought)..
Later the spat with Dakota and I was about the history of WW2 and how america was spared/or not..
and later again it was how little meaning our troops has in the war against terror, and I showed him we percentage-wise has more troops dispatched, than the US.. ( what ever that means
)
it usually ends on good terms, and always with no lasting grudges.. apparently something you could learn.. but to sum up, whats Dakota and my spat with each other to you, or rather whats your point?

Anyway…from what I see, the players will play just as hard for Cable as they did for Kiffin. It was a good and the only move to go in-house for the replacement. The Saints are better without Gramatica because they will try to score TDs instead of FGs.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
We match up pretty well against the Aints. The Aints are not running the ball all that effectively, but have been flinging it around the yard with great success. Pass defense is supposed to be the strength of our team, so that may be to our benefit. Also, the Aint’s have been turning the ball over with some regularity, and for the first time in years we seem to be opportunistic. For all you Dhall haters out there, he does have two picks in four games. Which is two more than any other of our 2ndary guys save Huff who has one.
If we can be somewhat imaginative on offense, the New Orleans defense is somewhat suspect. Knapp will be a HUGE improvement in the playcalling versus Kiffin. The deep TD to Miller in the lst half of the last game was a Knapp call. Hopefully we can keep the Aints off balance and win it with our offense in the fourth. Plus Jam is coming home. That’s always nice.

I agree raiderrockstar bcause he surely isn’t worth the money he’s being paid so far
October 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Two Hundred Twenty Third!
Just hope Fargas can stay healthy.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

October 8th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
You would think more great kickers would come out of the NFL’s farm system.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
At least enough to supply 32 teams.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Nobody wants to know what the taboo subject is?
October 8th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Sea Bass is hitting everything lately just not 76yrders He needs to kick touch backs on kickoffs and Shane needs to avoid punts to R Bush that are returnable. Special teams will be huge for both teams
October 8th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Wow you guys are posting fasting fast!
LMN
Tattood the plans underneath a fake finger nail I planted in last week.
MR.
Agreed
October 8th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
We are gonna run the Fargas/McFadden/Bush train for 300 yards, like we did against the Chiefs. Cable said he wants balance, but that doesn’t mean shy away from the run. If we try to run early and it’s effective, we’ll keep on with it. I think we can run on the Saints. Hopefully they can’t run on us! We’ll be prepared to stop the pass..
October 8th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
I agree about the Saint matchup.
Drew is almost good for two picks.
I bet we can get three. Throw in a runback by JLH and even Branch. Maybe JR will show us why Al spent that #1 pick on him.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
In my big money league I benched Drew Breeze and started J-Mac. I think the match up is there for me.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
We wear black this week on the road I beleive
October 8th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Raiders 44, Aints 0. I’ll be anyone here.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
If Cable is wise enough to use all three RB’s, theres a good chance it will cut down on the injuries. At least one man wont carry all the burden untill he tired and beat up in the last quarter.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
D Hall should be familiar defending the Saints from his ATL days.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I like the Raiders on a fast track in the dome. Speed KIlls
October 8th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Starter Week 1
Fargas
Bush
McFadden
This is the smart line-up for the week. What good is it to have an injured RB all year. Look at LT, If Turner was smart he would have had him sitting the last 3 weeks. He would have a healthy LT for the Pats game.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
The Norv effect has already hit the Chargers look at their last 2 games
October 8th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Figures I start posting and everyone bounces… Kackers!
October 8th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Ya Lynn,..and the Saints receivers are familiar with D Hall,..and they burn hon routinely,..I would say Hall is the biggest free agent bust in history,..if not for Walker,…and of course the Russell contract will go down in history as worst ever,…start Walter sunday.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Lynn,…last time I checked Norv is still undefeated against the Raiders….so shut the hell up a-hole.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Norv = No Motivational Anything!
October 8th, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Whats Halls stats minus week 1?
October 8th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I am now going to continue to post as Oakglenn and everyone else. It’s because I am a ass rammed loser and have nothing to add to humanity.

October 8th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

October 8th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
MR.
Having a bad day, bud? Smoke a little… It has the “fuk it” ingredient.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
El Dirty maybe you dont count week one,..but the NFL does and so do I.
October 8th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
STFU Dirty. Man, everyone I love, ends of leaving.

Backfield is back
Raiders running backs Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden practiced together for the first time in more than three weeks. If this offense is going to achieve the balance promised by Tom Cable, it will start with their healthy return.
Fargas, who injured his groin at Kansas City, went full speed ahead and will resume the starting position. McFadden has played off-and-on since injuring his right big toe in that same game, but Cable expects him to be a go Sunday against the Saints.
McFadden was limited in practice as an ongoing safety precaution and still wears a protective shield inside his shoe. He said the bye week did wonders for his toe.
“It feels a little stiff but I can do a lot more than what I’ve been doing,” McFadden said. “Getting a week off and being able to rest and not worry about it getting banged up again helped it a whole lot.”
The Raiders will need all backs on deck this week. The Saints stuffed Vikings star Adrian Peterson to 32 rushing yards on 21 carries — the lowest per-carry average for a player with at least 20 rushes since 2003.
In other news:
** Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Derrick Burgess is hurt all over again with his second triceps injury of the season.
He got hurt during practice Monday, Cable said, and did not practice Wednesday. Even if Burgess plays, expect Kalimba Edwards and Jay Richardson to offer some relief.
They’ll need someone who can get to quarterback Drew Brees, who has been unstoppable when given time in the pocket. Cable said they have to do something — anything — to disrupt Brees’ timing because “he can just tear you apart.”
** It’s not tampering, but wait until Al Davis gets a load of this.
Quarterback JaMarcus Russell was asked when he last spoke to Lane Kiffin. The answer: Monday night after the Saints game.
“He just called, talked to me about their defense, things he would do if he was here. He’s got a lot of times on his hands, so he would pay attention (to) the defense I would have to go up against, leaves me a text message or a voice mail here or there.”
** Speaking of tampering, the league office has contacted the Raiders about Davis’ public assertion that the Patriots tampered with Randy Moss before their trade last April.
A team official said that a national report about the conversation is “totally untrue.” The report said the Raiders had been told they would be fined by the league.
** Going back to injuries, the Raiders are almost at full health. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (elbow) and right guard Cooper Carlisle (ankle) got back to a full workload Wednesday.
Backup tight end Ben Troupe, who hurt his foot on his first day with the Raiders two weeks ago, remains limited.
** Argue all day about Sebastian Janikowski’s worth as a first-round draft pick in 2000, but at least he has staying power.
His nine-year tenure is the third-longest active streak for a kicker with the same team. The Saints? they just put Martin Gramatica on the Injured Reserve after he whiffed badly Monday against the Vikings.
** Speaking of Jano … when Raiders owner Al Davis fired coach Lane Kiffin last week, he mocked his decision to have Janikowski attempt a 76-yard field goal against the Chargers.
Cable said, barring last-second desperation at the end of the game, they won’t be trying that one again. However, the NFL record of 63 yards isn’t out of reach just yet.
“He can go out there and get one from 65,” Cable said. “So, I don’t think there’s a question about that.”
** Two new signs around the facility this week. Pick a favorite.
Sign No. 1: “1-0″ hangs between the facility and the practice field. It replaces the “I’m in” sign used by former head coach Lane Kiffin, who as his sign, is no longer in.
Cable said it means all the matters is that, when the game is over, the Raiders are 1-0 that week. For now, they’re still 1-3.
Sign No. 2: “19 wins, 61 losses, 6 head coaches, 1 owner” sits on a second-floor window sill in the building next door. Seems a health-care employee thinks Al Davis is what most ills the franchise.

norco bob are they the 10mg/325apap or different?
October 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
D.Hall has 2 picks….yeah but look how he got the both of them one was on a tipped ball…..and the other was on a play with the other team in a long situation amd we dropped almost 10 guys in the secondary and he was just in the area! Huff morrison or wilson could have gotten that pick easily…….why don’t hall get some picks when the QB is targeting him in the 4th quarter? Oh he can’t because he “don’t have the same punch as he does in the 1st quarter” cmon bro the nation needs better effort for 60 minutes!!!!
October 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Unsure,..the little yellow ones,..real Norco,.not m360/generic.
October 8th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
Does anyone know how practice went today? I’m hoping McFadden is 100%. He is a flat out game changer. Obviously I don’t want him to come back until he’s fully ready to go. He will open up this passing game for JaMarcus.
For those of you that don’t know exactly what turf toe is (I didn’t until I read this site), its a very tough injury to rebound from. It has more to do with a tendon inside of the foot than just the toe itself.

I understand bud. One guarantee in life is that nothing ever stays the same… Its a blessing and a curse at the same time.
Bob
I agree I was just curious to know…
October 8th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
D HALL is a bum,…gets burned all day long,…cant tackle, but the Raiders havent had a decent db tackler since Ronnie Lott…but as long as they are fast thats good enough for Al….tackling doesnt matter to him….all about the 40 time.
October 8th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
i have to use them as i await 2-level fusion in my back…. just was curious. u seem a little angry over the last couple days…..everything ok?
October 8th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
As long as Rob Ryan is the defensive coordinator the Raiders will continue to lose.
October 8th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
No not really seatown,..but thats not your problem is it?..I will work it out myself.
October 8th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Kirk who would you hire in place of Rob Ryan?
October 8th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
I think Mike Nolan will be available sooner than latter
October 8th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
7-9 record and im more than happy with what cable will have done. anything better is amazing. real expectation: 6-10…pretty much
October 8th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Lynn, someone who blitzes in the fourth quarter. One of the reasons this team has been losing the last few years is that Ryan always backs off of pressure in the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter is when you should blitz the most, because the offensive linemen are tired, and blitzes create TURNOVERS!
October 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
do think we get a big win this weekend though..NO seems to b a little stuck in raider mode at the moment. we’ll definitely find out what this team thinks of cable after the game imo.
October 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Parity has hit the AFC this year is wide open. Is Tenn. that good ? maybe on defense but everyone else has slipped back to the middle
October 8th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
cool, glad to hear it…….. if everyone is healthy i think we give the saints a run if we put the conservative play calling in the trash heap and play to win…. not just not lose. we need to keep the defense to 28-31 minutes on the field not the 36-38 we have been…. it aint rocket science so i guess that makes me a candidate for head coach cause i love the raiders as well
October 8th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
I would like to see more pressure on the QB without having to blitz too much. I know that’s asking a lot
October 8th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
i watch other teams bring just 5 guys but from different looks and they get there… we seem to bring 5 and never get there and i know it doesnt help that d hall is 10 yards off the qb sees the blitz and throws it to him……. ijust think the scheme ryan puts together isnt fooling anyone….just my opinion

You can say a lot of things about C. wood, but you can not say that he wasn’t a sure tackler. As a corner he missed very few. Eric Allen was also a good tackler.

I’ve been reading comments from so called Raider Fans for years. And I have come to the conclusion most of them are not true fans. I get annoyed as well, with all the drama, via media or Raider Haters, but when our team is down in the dumps, is when we need to show our support the most. As a Raider Fan I have seen and heard the difference in our team and it’s headed in the right direction, it’s goin’ to take time to get back to top contender status, granted we can keep coaches longer than a season or two. As Raider Fans we need to keep our heads up and keep the faith. A storm is coming and it’s called the Oakland Raiders and they are about to rain on everyone’s parade. People can bag on the coaches, players, and owner(s)but when they start to throttle these other NFL teams everyone will be praising the same people they were just putting down. Everyone has two choices, to be a Raider Fan or not to be a Raider Fan. For myself, Raiders for life. If your a Raider Fan you shouldn’t be happy of the win/loss record, but atleast be happy you’re part of one Hell of a team and family, the Raider Nation. Time to show what a Raider fan is all about. Late!
October 8th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Attack defense for four quarters; not three. Void “prevent zone” from the dictionary and we are 3-1. Win a few consecutive games and get rid of the loser locker room stentch . Don’t give up on this young team, they may end up suprising you!
October 8th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
IF anyone ask me i dont think cable going to do anything but lead the raiders downhill. I hope he wont but Al davis is the raiders and i guess i have to follow cuz Im a Raider For eternity
October 8th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
I guess I am the eternal optimist. I always knew that, somehow, someway the Raiders would return to Oakland. Somehow, someway things WILL get better. This team WILL win again.
Having said that I guess there is just one more thing to say. GO RAIDERS !

We are in a “no win situation” here. If we begin to win, Al Davis will become even more confident in his destructive decisions. He will become even more erradict and a bigger tyrant to OUR team. And if we keep losing games, then its business as usual, and Davis will blame the new coaching staff, fire them, and hire an entire new coaching staff with a new offensive scheme and game plans for the players to learn. How can anyone ever expect a successful Raiders team when they have to keep learning new offensive and defensive schemes?
