No boot for McFadden; Burgess out
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 11:47 am in Oakland Raiders.
Running back Darren McFadden made it to the practice field without a protective boot and looked as if he was going to be involved in team sessions Wednesday.
The only player who looked as if he was not going to participate was defensive end Derrick Burgess, who is listed as day-to-day with a triceps injury and was not in pads and didn’t have his helmet.
More to come later . . .

what would a gm do between now and the off season? how will that help us win games?
October 15th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
?
A GM would be able to evaluate the talent that the roster currently has, instead of going off of what the coahces say. You know RR will always talk his players up. If a GM came in mid-season, he would be able to see for himself.

It’s funny how so many people thought Matt Ryan was not a franchise QB. He is so far ahead of Jamarcus it’s a real cause for concern. Also how about the Falcons in general? This was an organization that had to totally rebuild and look how far ahead of the Raiders they are. It’s time for a real GM and a real head coach (good luck with that)

Jeez….can someone please tell me how in the hell the old man was this close to trading Bush to a hated rival for ONLY a 2nd day draft pick???
What kind of stupidity would that have been??!! WTF??
This team needs to utilize it’s strengths! Use the 3 RB’s to there advantage to keep defenses off balance!
Use DMC in the wild hog formation with Fargas or Bush in the backfield. Use DMC in the SLOT and as WR with Bush and Fargas in the backfield at the same time!
Use DMC and Bush in the wild hog and have them throw the ball to catch defenses off guard. Then use Russell to move the ball downfield. This is crazy…why can’t the coaches learn to from what the Dophins are doing right now on offense??

I would not trade JaMarcus for Matt Ryan. No way. Russell has much more upside and hasn’t played nearly as bad as people think, even last Sunday (which was probably his worst game as a starter). Russell is going to be a great one as long as he ignores the jackass media and fans who have no perspective on the situation.
Here’s a snapshot: one series in the second half vs. New Orleans was killed when Lelie, Curry and Bush dropped would-be first-down catches on consecutive plays. Later, he overshot Lelie on a 50-yard pass by a half-step and then Schilens by a step on another bomb. The fumble was caused when Kwame Harris completely whiffed on his man. To be fair he did miss Miller for a sure TD on the opening drive and threw a few other poor passes in that game. But it wasn’t anything close to the kind of stuff we’ve seen out some really lousy rookie QB play in the past.
The kid is stuck with a bunch of No. 3 and No. 4 WRs. The team should cut Walker. He’s a waste and is just collecting an $11 million going away present from the NFL this year. Send him packing. Curry used to be our most reliable player on offense but has been terrible since last season and is getting worse. Lelie has been OK, but is really just a rung above Alvis Whitted and really belongs as a No. 3 or No. 4 WR.
Cable should cut/deactivate Walker and start Watkins and Schilens. Will they fare any better? Who knows. But they couldn’t possibly do any worse.
I posted this yesterday, but here it is again:
FIRST-YEAR PASSER RATINGS
Drew Brees*: 76.9
JAMARCUS RUSSELL**: 73.2
Peyton Manning: 71.2
Rich Gannon***: 68.9
Phil Simms: 66.0
Donovan McNabb: 60.1
Steve Young: 56.9
Troy Aikman: 55.7
Eli Manning: 55.4
John Elway: 54.9
—————
Heath Shuler: 59.6
Alex Smith: 40.8
Ryan Leaf: 39.0
* Brees’ 2nd NFL season, first as starter (had 67.5 rating in 3rd season)
** Russell’s 2nd season, first as starter
*** Gannon’s 4th season, first as starter
P.S. — Matt Ryan has an 82.9 rating with 5 TDs and 4 turnovers. Russel’s 73.2 rating comes with 4 TDs and 6 turnovers. Ryan has been better, but not by that much.

GOOD POST!
Chris in NY:
We just need to sit back and let Jruss learn through his mistakes. He will be alot better once we get him some receivers and a defense line that help get the other teams offense off the field in 3-plays. Jruss sat on the bench for how long during the last game. it was like 11 minutes or something but, more like a half hour real time. We can’t start judging him until next year atleast. The guys deserves one full year to see if he figures the NFL out or not. I would give him 2-3 yrs which is about the norm.
