Cornerback Chris Johnson, who sat out the previous day with a knee injury, had his helmet in hand and appeared ready to practice Friday as warmups and drills concluded and the Raiders started team sessions in preparation for Denver.
Johnson has given the Raiders an upgrade at left cornerback, taking over for DeAngelo Hall, and his presence will be important for a secondary sure to be tested by Jay Cutler and one of the NFL’s most explosive passing attacks.

Note: Didn’t make the Miami trip this week, so no live in-game blogs today. Will post a wrap-up following the game.
Is it really too much to ask to convert a few third down plays and punch the ball into the end zone two or three times?

Updates with all inactives, release of Fred Wakefield . . .
So now it’s official. JaMarcus Russell won’t start today’s game against the Carolina Panthers with a rather sudden and advancing case of right knee tendinitis.
When the Raiders released their inactive list, Russell was listed as the No. 3 quarterback, with Walter as the starter. Other inactives include running back Darren McFadden and wide receiver Ronald Curry, who got on the field for one snap last week as a shotgun quarterback, only to have the play nullified by a penalty.

Opposing passers have approached the Raiders like a shooting gallery in arcade game, with the most inviting target being the cornerback opposite Nnamdi Asomugha.
The Carolina Panthers will be no different Sunday when they visit the Raiders at the Coliseum.
With Al Davis having given up second- and fifth-round draft picks and $8 million for eight games worth of DeAngelo Hall before determining he wasn’t even remotely the lockdown corner they anticipated, they turn to a 29-year-old minimum wage journeyman making his second career start.
