My 20 year old son was hit by a motorist in downtown Lafayette the week before last. Fortunately, he escaped serious injury. He says she saw him and simply didn’t stop, making a left turn into the bike lane from a sidestreet. She may have been on the phone at the time, she certainly was by the time she got out of the car to see if he was OK. Unfortunately, she seemed mostly annoyed that he was even there and denied any responsibility in the matter. Isn’t this blaming the victim? Why didn’t she at least get a ticket?

That’s a good point about the separate dedicated bike lanes, Scott. I believe it’s actually even legal to drive in the bike lanes under certain conditions.

Banning bikes solves nothing. Separate dedicated bike lanes are worse at intersections (don’t ask me why it works in Amsterdam, but one reason is bikes have separate signals. Wouldn’t work here).
