I’m more maneuverable, more alert, and infinitely more vulnerable.

If my ass gets run over by a bus, the fact that the CVC declared this an illegal action by the bus driver will be of little solace to me!

Besides which, if a cop saw me run out in front of a car for the express reason of causing the driver to make a sudden panic-brake stop, then who would he reprimand–me, or the driver?

Not to mention the fact that you KNOW they’re going to be ticketing for “pedestrian in crosswalk” even when the pedestrian was in fact exiting the crosswalk on the other side of a divided road…
