BART to extend service until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve

BART riders on New Year’s Eve will get three hours of extended service until 3 a.m., plus extra trains and staggered train stops in downtown San Francisco to ease crowding from the popular midnight fireworks show on the Embarcadero.

People going out on Friday, New Year’s Eve, will be able to board trains until 3 a.m. Saturday throughout the rapid transit system.   Read the rest of this entry »

Friday is end of the line for AC Transit multi-ride paper tickets: Clipper card is here

AC Transit  changes its bus fare payment system on Saturday Jan. 1 when it stops accepting multi-ride paper tickets as payment to board buses. As  it takes another step to boost use of Clipper smart cards for paying fares, AC Transit has set Friday as the last day to pay with the 10-ride and 31-ride paper tickets for adults and the 10-day paper tickets for youths, seniors and the disabled.

AC Transit urges customers to acquire a Clipper card promptly if they don’t want to pay fares in cash. Read the rest of this entry »

Will BART run trains later on Saturday nights?

AC Transit riders seek pledge of no more service cuts

Some AC Transit bus riders plan to march to the transit system’s board meeting tonight in downtown Oakland to demand a moratorium on further service cuts. The group will gather at 5:30 p.m. at Broadway and 14th Street, and then march to the transit board meeting at 6 p.m. at 1600 Franklin Street. $2 ride is free this month on AC Transit’s “holiday” bus

AC Transit is giving away free rides this month to everyone who boards a “holiday” bus that is rotated around to serve a different route each day. AC makes it a seasonal practice to decorate one bus, cover the fare box,  and waive the $2 bus fare.

Smile kids, you’re on car camera. Don’t get killed by cars backing up.

The federal government proposes a rule to reduce the accidental deaths of two children a week on average from car backovers. The rule would require  back-up cameras on new cars and trucks, effective in 2014.

Drive less, pay less with new insurance option in California

BART to give away free tickets Thursday morning

BART tomorrow will give away 60,000 pairs of free tickets to encourage holiday shoppers to travel by rail over the next three weekends.  The tickets will be given out  between 6 and 9 a.m. tomorrow at six stations. Read the rest of this entry »
