Are high gas prices cutting into your July 4 travel plans?

I’m looking for readers to call or email me this afternoon if they are planning to cut back their Fourth of July weekend travel plans this year because of high gas prices. A new AAA survey found that 2.9 percent fewer Californians are planning to drive 50 miles or more this Fourth of July long weekend, and high gas prices are part of the reason. Guilty plea in hit and run death of Martinez bicyclist

The son of a Martinez cyclist killed in a hit and run accident in 2008 saw some measure of  justice Wednesday when an SUV driver pleaded guilty to the crime. It took authorities a year and a half to identify the driver, who hid the vehicle in a relative’s garage.  Read the rest of this entry »

BART to give out free transit tickets on Thursday, “Dump the Pump” Day

Ride with a skirt to bike party tonight after open house at Ashby BART bike station

What do BART and men and women bicyclists in skirts have in common? They’re partners tonight in a Berkeley doubleheader of the practical and the wacky. Cyclists are invited  from 7:30 to 8 p.m. tonight to an open house at the new bike station at the Ashby BART station.  Afterwards, cyclists are invited to head out for a “skirt” ride around Berkeley in the monthly social ride sponsored by the East Bay Bicycle Coalition. Highway 12 daytime closures set:Tues through Thursday

Highway 12 between Highway 160 near Rio Vista and Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County will be closed from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday during Caltrans maintenance work.  No through traffic will be allowed during those hours on this commute route. Read the rest of this entry »
