BART riders are likely to see more police officers on trains and in stations this weekend as transit agencies across the naton step up vigilance on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey announced that at the request of the Transportation Security Administration, he has asked police departments in the Bay Area to join his officers in Operation Rail Safe, a large scale deployment of police from many departments to bolster rail safety. That means BART riders may see officers from many local police departments on patrol in BART facilities.
